ALGONA



Vivian L. Petersen, 65, of Algona, died Wednesday (Sept. 25,

1996) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the

First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clifford Isaacson

officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.



Visitation will begin after 7 p.m. today at the Wilson Funeral

Home, and after 9 a.m. on Friday with a public V.F.W. Auxilliary

service at 7 p.m.



Vivian L. Petersen was born Aug. 31, 1931, at Humboldt.



Survivors include her husband, Harold, of Algona; three sons,

Richard and Ronald of Algona, and Dennis of Martensdale; one

daughter, Janet Penning of Algona; 10 grandchildren; and one

great-grandchild.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

Lyda W. Watts

MASON CITY 



Lyda W. Watts, 89, of 304 Third St. N.E., died Tuesday (Sept.

24, 1996) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.



Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial

Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Pratt officiating.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.



Memorials may be given to the Lyda W. Watts Memorial Fund.



Lyda W. Watts was born July 1, 1907, the daughter of Alexander

and Etna (Crook) Scrimger in Charles City.



Lyda attended schools in Charles City.



Lyda married Lester Watts on May 23, 1944, in Albert Lea, Minn.



They moved to California for 27 years and returned to Mason

City in 1968.



Lyda enjoyed collecting and selling antiques.



She was a member of the Mason City Senior Citizen Center.



Survivors include one sister, Louise Williams of Centralia,

Ill.; five nieces; one nephew; and three stepchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1969,

two brothers, one sister and one stepchild.

Josephine Elizabeth Bunting

ALGONA



Josephine Elizabeth Bunting, 92, of Algona, died Tuesday (Sept.

24, 1996) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran

Church, with the Rev. Douglas Hoag and the Rev. Steven Turner

officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Geilenfeld-Murphy-

Schaaf Funeral Home.



Josephine Elizabeth Bunting was born April 20, 1904, in Moltke

Township, Gibbon, Minn.



Survivors include her sister, Luvella Knight of New Ulm, Minn.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters

and two brothers.

Vincent E. Roelofsen, 71, of Meservey, died Tuesday (Sept.

24, 1996) at the Belmond Community Hospital in Belmond.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Tenold

Funeral Chapel, Belmond, with the Rev. Rodney Meester of the

First Reformed Church of Meservey officiating.



Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union

Cemetery, Harris.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tenold

Funeral Home, Belmond.



Vincent was born Sept. 14, 1925, at Lake Park.



Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Meservey; a son, Douglas

Lee Roelofsen of Belmond; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Bellcourt of

Magalia, Calif.; stepdaughters, Ann Harty of Belmond and Nancy

Miller of Britt; 10 grandchildren; and brothers, Neal Roelofsen

and Garret Roelofsen, both of Lake Park.



He was preceded in death by his first wife, one son and one

brother.

Gertrude G. Hart

MASON CITY



Gertrude G. Hart, 79, of 512 S. Carolina Ave., died Wednesday

(Sept. 25, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.



A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph

Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries

officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a 7 p.m. Scriptural prayer service.



Memorials may be made to the Gertrude G. Hart Memorial Fund.



Gertrude G. Hart was born July 31, 1917, in Floyd County, daughter

of James and Susan (Noss) Cunningham.



She married John Hart on Feb. 28, 1938, at St. Patrick's Catholic

Church, Dougherty.



Gert grew  up in the Dougherty area and graduated from St. Patrick's

Catholic School.



After her marriage, she and her husband farmed in the Swaledale

and Rockwell area. In 1959, they moved into Mason City where

she worked for 10 years as a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital until

retiring.



Bert was an avid bingo player. She loved spending time with

her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.



Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen Staudt and her husband,

Milton, of Marble Rock; three sons, Robert Hart and his wife,

Patricia, of Mason City; John Hart of Woodward, and Jim Hart

and his wife, Marsha, of Mason City; six grandchildren, Terry

Staudt and Gerald Staudt, both of Marble Rock; Amanda, Brandy

and Dustin Hart, all of Mason City, and Candy Hart of Mason City;

three great-grandchildren, April, Angie and Jacob Staudt, all

of Marble Rock; four sisters, Fran Klatt, Gladys Lugar and Rose

Gaubatz, all of Mason City; and Sister Mary Paschal of Dubuque;

a special little friend, BreAnna; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter,

Chelsea Marie Hart; four brothers, Leo, Nick, Carl and John Cunningham;

and three sisters, Mayme Backer, Agnes Hinsch and Josephine McLaughlin.

Calif.; one brother, August Brown Jr.; and three sisters, Hazel,

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic

Cemetery, rural Maxwell, with military rites by the Maxwell American

Legion Post.



Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at Champion

Funeral Home, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture

service.



Visitation will also be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the

Cooper Funeral Home, Maxwell, with a prayer service at 3 p.m.,

with the Rev. Penney officiating.



Gary R. Smith was born May 28, 1942, in Des Moines.



Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Osage; three sons, Tim

Smith,  Cedar Rapids; Matt Smith, Osage, and Shawn Smith of St.

Charles, Mo.; his mother, Naomi (Smith) Kerr of Newton; one sister,

Mary Lynn Saldona of Ames; and three grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his father, one infant sister and

one infant brother.

S. Earl Penney, 97, Osage, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 1996)

at the Faith Home.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United

Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Burial

will be in the Osage Cemetery, with military rites by the American

Legion Post #278 of Osage; and a Masonic service at the grave

by the Osage Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M.



Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at Champion Funeral

Home and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.



S. Earl Penney was born May 16, 1899, at Stacyville.



Survivors include one son, Stephen Gregg Penney of Richfield,

Minn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, one

sister and two brothers.

Donald Frank Oldenburg

CEDAR RAPIDS



Donald Frank Oldenburg, 52, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday

(Sept. 25, 1996) at his home after a short illness.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Westminster

Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Herbert L. Isenberg officiating.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Teahen Funeral

Home, 3100 F Ave. N.W., and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church.



A memorial fund has been established.



Donald Frank Oldenburg was born Sept. 20, 1944, in Bloomington,

Ill.



He married Barbara Scott on March 1, 1964, in West Union.



He farmed in northeast Iowa until 1970 and had since been employed

by Farm Credit Services.



Donald was a member of Rotary Club International, Iowa City

Chamber of Commerce, Kennedy Band Parents and Westminster Presbyterian

Church.



Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a son, Brian of Cedar Rapids;

two daughters, Marcia Hurt and her husband, Dan, of Topeka, Kan.,

and Cheryl Oldenburg of Columbia, Mo.; one grandson, Kevin Scott

Hurt; his mother, Florence Oldenburg; a brother, Carl Oldenburg

Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of West Union; a sister, Arlene Rients

and her husband, Harold, of Fayette; and his mother-in-law, Clara

Scott.



He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Sr. and his father-in-law,

Donald Scott.

Alpha Mork, 86, of Forest City, died Thursday (Sept. 26, 1996)

at the Northfield Retirement Center, Northfield, Minn.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel

Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial

will be in Oakland Cemetery.



Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday at

the church.

Memorials may be given to the Waldorf College or World Missions.



Alpha Mork was born on June 14, 1910, in Greenbush, Minn.



Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn Day of Wauwatosa,

Wis.; Cynthia Poole of Escondito, Calif., Margaret Blume of Faribault,

Minn., and Rachel Haverlah of Round Rock, Texas; two sons, Marcus

Mork of Richfield, Minn., and Paul Mork of Burnsville, Minn.;

16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Judith

Hyland of Northfield, Minn.; and three brothers, Norris Skogerboe

of Crystal Minn.; Rudy Skogerboe of Grand Forks, N.D., and Arvid

Skogerboe of San Antonio, Texas.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two grandsons.

Viola Buckley

FERTILE



Mrs. Clyde (Viola) Buckley, 86, of Fertile, died Sunday (Sept.

22, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.



A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct.

1, 1996, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev.

Lee Laaveg officiating.



There is no visitation. The body was donated to Mayo Anatomy

Department.



Petersen Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, is in charge of arrangements.



Myrtle Viola Buckley was born on a farm near Leland on July

22, 1910, the daughter of Andrew and Laura (Johnson) Moen. She

was baptized at West Prairie Church near there.



She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduated

from Forest City High School in 1919.



She taught rural schools for seven years.



She was married to Clyde Buckley in 1936 in Forest City.



 They farmed in Forest Township for 13 years before buying a

farm near Kensett where they lived 12 years. While there she

was an active member of Elk Creek Church, serving as Sunday school

superintendent and Bible class teacher for 12 years.



While in the area she operated the Northwood Sale Barn lunch

room for seven years and the Clear Lake Sale Barn lunch room

for two years.



She became acquainted with foster care for  orphans through

the Circle at Elk Creek and when moving to the Fertile area in

1960, she became associated with the John Douglas Missionary

work called ``World Missionary Evangelism.'' Through them she

supported two missionaries and seven children in India until

each became self-supporting.



A deep well was dug there in memory of her parents and her brother.

She visited the orphanage in Nicaragua in 1975.



She worked over 23 years at the Forest City Hospital.



She was an active member of the Senior Citizens Club, Sarah

Circle, Art Club and their neighborhood birthday club.



She enjoyed painting, crafts, sewing and traveling.



She is survived by her husband, Clyde Buckley of Fertile; a

son, David Buckley and his wife, Martha, of Corsicana, Texas;

and a daughter, Janet Jerde and her husband, Jim, of Clarion;

10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine

Shropshire of Clear Lake, and Virginia Schmidt of Forest City;

five nephews; and three nieces.



She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerrold Buckley;

and a brother, Obert Moen.

Elmer Gawe was born Sept. 25, 1897 in rural Corwith.



Survivors include his wife, Florence, of Corwith; two daughters,

Janice Guenther and Mariann Cram, both of Corwith; eight grandchildren;

seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Maude Studer of Wesley;

and one brother, George Glawe of Corwith.



He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Loraine Eunice Miller, 82, of Titonka, formerly of Forest City,

died Friday (Sept. 27, 1996) at the Titonka Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's

Lutheran church, Lakota. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery

at Stevens.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Winter

Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.



Loraine Eunice Miller was born June 1, 1914, at Frost, Minn.



Survivors include two daughters, Joan of Fertile, and Diane

of Knoxville; four sons, Roger of Madrid; Dennis of Forest City;

Jim of Elmore, Minn., and Steve of Forest City; three sisters,

Eileen of Morro Bay, Calif.; Vivian of Moorhead, Minn., and Jean

of Blue Earth, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband and one son.

Selmer Heimdal, 81, of Garner, died Friday (Sept. 27, 1996)

at the Concord Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Pilot

Knob Lutheran Church, rural Forest City, with the Rev. Robert

Snitzer officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery,

Forest City.



Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church

on Monday.

Selmer was born March 22, 1915, in Mount Valley Township, Winnebago

County.



Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Severson of Forest City,

and Jennifer Burrell of Mission, Texas.



He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Bertha Etta Culbert, 87, of 1008 Ellis Drive, died Thursday

(Sept. 26, 1996) at the Salsbury Baptist Home.

Rev. Debra Lincoln, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will

be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., and one hour prior to services at

the church on Monday morning.



Mrs. Culbert, the former Bertha Etta Lubbens, was born Oct.

5, 1908, in Pipestone, Minn., the daughter of Matthew and Bertha

Tena (Rietema) Lubbens.



She moved with her family to Charles City when she was a young

child.



She attended  Washington Elementary School in Charles City,

and graduated from Charles City High School in 1926.



For four years, she taught in country schools in rural Floyd

County.



She then became a bookkeeper and cashier for the former Heddens

Dry Goods Store and the Daylight Dry Goods Store, both in Charles

City.



On July 26, 1938, in Milbank, S.D., she was united in marriage

to Louis F. Culbert.



The couple made their home in Charles City, but moved shortly

thereafter to Omaha, Neb., where Mr. Culbert was employed at

the Glenn L. Martin Bomber Plant during World War II.



The couple returned to Charles City in 1945.



Mrs. Culbert was a bookkeeper and office manager for the former

Walsh Manufacturing Company in Charles City.



She occupied that position for 11 years  before accepting a

similar position for the offices of Dr. Pelz and Dr. Schmiedel

of Charles City for 10 years. She retired in 1972.



Mrs. Culbert was an ardent sportswoman. She enjoyed hunting,

fishing and trapshooting.



She won numerous trophies for golf, and was the City Champion

of Charles City at one time.



She also won numerous trophies in bowling. She played in the

National Women's Bowling Tournaments in several states, including

California, Nevada and Oklahoma. She frequently placed ``in the

money'' at these tournaments.



Mrs. Culbert was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church,

where she had sung in the Chancel Choir and taught Sunday School.



She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and had held every office

at one time or another. She was awarded the degree of Chivalry

for her 65 years of faithful service to the order.



Living family members include her husband, Louis, of Charles

City; a son, Allan B. Culbert of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Robert

Lubbens of California; two sisters, Florence Johnston of Waverly,

 and Winifred Henry of Charles City; five grandchildren, James

Culbert and his wife, Jeanette, of Des Moines; Kevin Culbert

of Salt Lake City, Utah; Gregory Culbert of Fairbanks, Alaska;

Anne Marie Culbert of Alexandria, Va., and Teresa Sturdy and

her husband, Mark, of Rochester, Ill,; and five great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Lubbens;

and a sister, Tillena Edwards.

Patricia Joan Schwartz, 52, of Manly, died Thursday (Sept.

26, 1996) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient, Mason City.



A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart

Catholic Church, Manly, with the Rev. John R. Kremer of Holy

Family Catholic Church, Mason City, and the Rev. Linda Johnson

of Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, officiating.



Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Post National Cemetery

in Huachuca, Ariz.



Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Bride Colonial

Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with a public Scriptural prayer

service at 7 p.m. by Deacon Bob Mega.



The family of Patricia Joan Schwartz has requested that memorial

contributions be made to the American Cancer society in her memory.



Patricia Joan Schwartz was born on June 29, 1944, in Minneapolis,

Minn., the daughter of Arthur and Olga (Hanson) Hennigar.



She attended and received her elementary education in the Plymouth

School System graduating from North Central High School in Manly

in 1962.



She was united in marriage to Richard Schwartz on Dec. 29, 1962,

at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.



After their marriage, she traveled with her husband, Richard,

who was in the United States Army until after her husband's discharge

in 1988, when they moved to Plymouth, moving to Manly in 1989.



In 1989, she began working as a sales person in the jewelry

department for Kmart in Mason City.



She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, knitting, crocheting and

fishing.



She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.



Survivors include her husband, Richard ``Skip'' Schwartz of

Armond W. Braun, 80, of St. Ansgar, died Friday (Sept. 27,

1996) at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran

Church, Grafton, with the Rev. Gregory Bjornstad officiating.

Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Schroeder

& Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.



Armond W. Braun was born March 9, 1916, in Barton Township,

Worth County, the son of Otto and Alvina (Walk) Braun.



He was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, on April

30, 1916, by the Rev. John Landdeck and consummated his baptismal

vows on March 29, 1931, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton,

by the Rev. Carl Landdeck.



He received his elementary education in rural Worth County school

system near Grafton.



On Oct. 6, 1940, he married Marcella Schmidt of Grafton at Emmanuel

Lutheran Church, Grafton, by the Rev. Herman Lechner.



They lived on the family farm until 1967 when they moved to

St. Ansgar at which time he worked for the Mitchell County Highway

Department for 14 years, retiring in 1982.



While on the farm, he also drove school bus for St. Ansgar and

Grafton school systems for many years.



He taught Sunday school for a number of years and served on

church council for years.



Armond is survived by his wife, Marcella, of St. Ansgar; one

son, James and his wife, Barbara, of Forest City; three daughters,

Mavis Ashland and her husband, Charles, of Britt; Diane Luepke

and her husband, Lynn, of Ankeny, Joan Bidne and her husband,

Loren, of Kiester, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Jared Ashland and

wife, Nancy, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; Sarah Steiner and husband,

Ken, of Rapid City, S.D.; Tamara Barnard and husband, Randy,

of New Virginia; Stacy Braun of Omaha, Neb.; Michelle Braun of

Cedar Falls; Latham Luepke of Ankeny; Alissa Luepke of Minneapolis,

Minn.; Valeri Luepke of Cedar Falls; Jennifer Bidne, Janelle

Bidne and Jeanette Bidne, all of Kiester, Minn.; two great-grandchildren,

Chelsea and Carrie Ashland of Coon Rapids, Minn.; one brother,

Everett of Grafton; three sisters, Dorothy Rademaker of Manly;

Mrs. Clyde (Viola) Buckley, 86, of Fertile, died Thursday (Sept.

26, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.



A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct.

1, 1996, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev.

Lee Laaveg officiating.



There is no visitation. The body was donated to Mayo Anatomy

Department.



Petersen Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, is in charge of arrangements.



Myrtle Viola Buckley was born on a farm near Leland on July

22, 1910, the daughter of Andrew and Laura (Johnson) Moen. She

was baptized at West Prairie Church near there.



She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduated

from Forest City High School in 1919.



She taught rural schools for seven years.



She was married to Clyde Buckley in 1936 in Forest City.



They farmed in Forest Township for 13 years before buying a

farm near Kensett where they lived 12 years. While there she

was an active member of Elk Creek Church, serving as Sunday school

superintendent and Bible class teacher for 12 years.



While in the area she operated the Northwood Sale Barn lunch

room for seven years and the Clear Lake Sale Barn lunch room

for two years.



She became acquainted with foster care for  orphans through

the Circle at Elk Creek and when moving to the Fertile area in

1960, she became associated with the John Douglas Missionary

work called ``World Missionary Evangelism.'' Through them she

supported two missionaries and seven children in India until

each became self-supporting.



A deep well was dug there in memory of her parents and her brother.

She visited the orphanage in Nicaragua in 1975.



She worked over 23 years at the Forest City Hospital.



She was an active member of the Senior Citizens Club, Sarah

Circle, Art Club and their neighborhood birthday club.



She enjoyed painting, crafts, sewing and traveling.



She is survived by her husband, Clyde Buckley of Fertile; a

son, David Buckley and his wife, Martha, of Corsicana, Texas;

and a daughter, Janet Jerde and her husband, Jim, of Clarion;

10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine

Shropshire of Clear Lake, and Virginia Schmidt of Forest City;

five nephews; and three nieces.



She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerrold Buckley;

and a brother, Obert Moen.

Gertrude G. Hart, 79, of 512 S. Carolina Ave., died Wednesday

(Sept. 25, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.



A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic

Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation was held Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel,

126 Third St. N.E., with a 7 p.m. Scriptural prayer service.

Gertrude G. Hart was born July 31, 1917, in Floyd County, daughter

of James and Susan (Noss) Cunningham.



 She married John Hart on Feb. 28, 1938, at St. Patrick's Catholic

Church, Dougherty.



Gert grew  up in the Dougherty area and graduated from St. Patrick's

Catholic School.



After her marriage, she and her husband farmed in the Swaledale

and Rockwell area. In 1959, they moved into Mason City where

she worked for 10 years as a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital until

retiring.



Gert was an avid bingo player. She loved spending time with

her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.



Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen Staudt and her husband,

Milton, of Marble Rock; three sons, Robert Hart and his wife,

Patricia, of Mason City; John Hart of Woodward, and Jim Hart

and his wife, Marsha, of Mason City; six grandchildren, Terry

Staudt and Gerald Staudt, both of Marble Rock; Amanda, Brandy

and Dustin Hart, all of Mason City, and Candy Hart of Mason City;

three great-grandchildren, April, Angie and Jacob Staudt, all

of Marble Rock; four sisters, Fran Klatt, Gladys Lugar and Rose

Gaubatz, all of Mason City; and Sister Mary Paschal of Dubuque;

a special little friend, BreAnna; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter,

Elmer August William Glawe, 101, died Thursday (September 26,

1996) in Britt.

officiating.  Internment will be in the Corwith City Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Garry-Roberts-

Murphy-Scaaf Funeral Home, Corwith.



Elmer, son of Meria Augusta Henrietta Stritzel Glawe and Rudolph

Karl Friedrich Glawe, was born September 25, 1897, at his parent's

farm home two miles north of Corwith.  He was baptized on April

10, 1898, in the Salem Church near Stilson.  He was received

into God's family on March 28, 1915, at the Methodist Episcopal

Church in Corwith.  He received his education in Country School

# 8, Boone Township and Corwith Public School.  He then stayed

at home to work on his parent's farm, but he continued his education

throughout his life by reading and traveling.  As a young man,

he enjoyed hunting and trapping in the sloughs around Corwith.

 He also hauled field tile by team and wagon from the Corwith

Tile Factory to various farms in the area.



In 1929, he purchased a farm west of Corwith, where he lived

the rest of his life.  On June 12, 1935, he was united in marriage

to Anna Florence Hansen in the Methodist Church at Wesley.  To

this union, two daughters were born.  While his family was at

home, he enjoyed traveling with them every summer, going to different

areas of the United States each year.  Later, he and Florence

wintered at Welaco, Texas, for many years, where he enjoyed bowling

and shuffleboard.  In 1985, he and Florence celebrated their

golden wedding.



He served as church trustee and board chairman for many years.

He attended church faithfully as long as he was able and served

our Lord by example and quietly helping others.  He was also

a member of the Farm Bureau, served as Prairie Township trustee

and on the election board for many years.



He is survived by his wife, Florence; two daughters and their

spouses, Janice and George Guenther and Mariann and Myron Cram,

all of Corwith; eight grandchildren, Pamela and Michael Wilson,

Sara Guenther and Robert Christian, Linda and Marc Quibell, Gregory

and Janelle Guenther, Patricia Guenther, Mark and Robin Cram,

Anne and Michael Sabotta and Katherine Cram; seven great-grandchildren,

Blake Wilson, Thomas and Michaela Christian, Eric Quibell and

Steven, Kevin and Randy Cram.  Also surviving are one sister,

Maude Studer, of Wesley; and one brother and wife, George and

Margaret Glawe, of Corwith. 



He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Elda

Clark, Anna Crowley, and Hazel Studer.

Dale A. Krueger was born August 5, 1928, in Duluth, Minn. the

son of Albert E. and Amy (Falk) Krueger.



Dale came to Mason City as an infant and he attended Mason

City schools and graduated from Mason City High School in 1946.

He then graduated from Mason City Junior College and  attended

Iowa State University in Ames before being drafted into the United

States Navy.  He served in the Korean Conflict, serving four

years.  After he was discharged he graduated from Hamilton Business

College.



Dale married Connie Ellison on Sept. 24, 1951, in Mason City.

Dale worked for International Harvester and the American Crystal

Sugar Plant, retiring as office manager in 1980 due to his health.



Dale loved his yard, planting trees and flowers.  He was a

devoted husband and father.



He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., V.F.W. and the American

Legion.



Survivors include his wife, Connie Krueger of Mason City; two

sons, Dale Warren Krueger and wife,  Debbie, of Libertyville,

Ill., and Alan Dean Krueger of Mason City; three grandchildren,

Jacob, Rachel and Aron Krueger; and his mother, Amy Krueger,

of the IOOF Home of Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his father.

Wednesday at Clear Lake Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Flickenger

Helen was born Nov. 2, 1907, in Winterset, the daughter of Philip

Reid and Lyda Ruth (Newlon) Wilkinson.  She attended Grinnell

College and University of Iowa, where she graduated in 1930.

She was a member of the Gramma Phi Beta sorority.



She married James Warren Pattie on Dec. 27, 1932, in Winterset.

She lived in Winterset until 1932 and then moved to Marshalltown,

where she resided until 1995.



She taught school in Marshalltown and was a member of the PEO,

Assistance League, Girl Scouts, United Fund, Entre Nous, Souvenir

and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.



She is survived by her husband, James Warren Pattie of Carlsbad,

Calif.; one son, James Pattie of Belleview, Wash.; and one daughter,

Mary Wells of Gillette, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and two great

grandchildren.

Maurice L. Merritt, 86, of 307 First St. S.E., died Thursday

Maurice L. Merritt was born June 8, 1910, at Allerton, a son

of Dwight L. and Ada Ruth (Morton) Merritt.  He attended Allerton

schools and was a graduate of Allerton High School.  he received

a Bachelor of Commercial Science degree from Drake University

in 1933.



On June 16, 1935, he married Grace D. Lucas at University Christian

Church, Des Moines.  They moved to Nora Springs where he operated

a Ford auto dealership and an Allis Chalmers dealership from

1938 to 1942.



Later, Maurice served as the head investigator for the federal

Office of Price Administration in Des Moines from 1942 to 1946.



In 1947 he started Artz and Merritt Sporting Goods, where he

remained an active partner until retiring in 1992.



He was a member of First Christian Church, Nora Springs.



The family would like to acknowledge those who shared their

lives with Maurice during his lifetime.



He is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Fites and her husband,

Tom, of Mason City, and Judy Ray Treloar and her husband, Bob,

of Vero Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;

and one brother, Ray Merritt of Des Moines.



He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife,  Grace,

in 1988.

Richard Claire Halfpap, 73, of rural Thornton, died Saturday

(Sept. 28, 1996) at his home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem

United Methodist Church, Meservey, with the Rev. James Gouchener

officiating.  Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at  Salem United

Methodist Church in Merservey and one hour prior to the service

at the church on Tuesday.



Service is under the direction of the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.



Richard Halfpap was born Sept. 11, 1923, to Fred and Lydia Gartz

Halfpap.  His mother, Lydia, died in 1927 when Richard was 3

years old.  He then made his home in Merservey with his grandparents,

Ferdinand and Hannah Halfpap, until his father married Bertha

Gartz Barker (his mother's sister) in 1929.  They moved to a

farm at Alexander.  He graduated from the Alexander School in

1942.  After graduation, he started farming with his dad at Goodell.



Richard married Virginia Nissen Halfpap on June 10, 1950.  They

lived at Goodell for two years, then moved to the Lightbody farm

northwest of Thornton in 1952, where they lived for 25 years.

Their sons, David and Doug, were born while they lived there.

In 1977, they semi-retired to an acreage north of Thornton.



Richard enjoyed playing baseball in high school and on town

teams later.  He was a Cardinal baseball fan for years, collecting

cards and listening to or viewing as many of their games as possible.

In later years he enjoyed attending many activities of the grandchildren,

custom baling, selling seed, going on bus trips and delivering

Sunday papers.



He died at his home on September 18, 1996.  He leaves to mourn

his passing his wife, Virginia; two sons and their wives, David

and Nancy Halfpap of Cedar Rapids and Doug and Kayla Halfpap

of Mason City; his grandchildren, Jason and Josh Halfpap, Colin

Halfpap and Emily and Aaron Halfpap and their mother, Deb Halfpap;

one sister, Berniece Blum and her husband, Charles, of Thornton;

and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; a baby

sister, Marjory; a stepbrother, Elbert Barker; a half-sister,

Doreen Engh; and a nephew, Roger Blum.
