Hazel A. Sorensen, 64, of 905 S. Grant, Lake Mills, died Friday

(Sept. 20, 1996) at Lake Mills Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Emmons

Lutheran Church, Emmons, Minn., with the Rev. Dennis Johnson

officiating. Burial will be in Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery,

rural Northwood.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mittelstadt

Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour before services at the

church.



Hazel A. Sorensen was born June 5, 1932  in Freeborn County,

Minn.



Survivors include one daughter, Becky Martinson of Joice; one

son, Doug Sorensen of Hanlontown; five grandchildren; her mother,

Agnes Larson of Albert Lea, Minn.; and one brother, Leroy Larson

of Emmons, Minn.



She was preceded in death by her husband, and father.

Graveside services for burial of Florence Schaeffer will be

held at 2 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 22, 1996) at Oakland Cemetery, Forest

City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the United Methodist Church,

officiating.



Florence Schaeffer, 84, of Forest City, died Jan. 3, 1995 in

Des Moines.



Petersen Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, is in charge of arrangements.

DUMONT



George John Aldinger, 79, of Dumont, died Thursday (Sept. 19,

1996) at home.



Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sietsema-Vogel

Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Gearhart officiating. Inurnment

will be in Dumont Cemetery.



There is no visitation. His body was cremated.



George John Aldinger was born March 14, 1917 in Titonka.



Survivors include his wife, Carol of Dumont; two daughters,

Cheryl Janssen of Camp Verde, Ariz., and Penny Bush of Mesa,

Ariz.; one son, John George Aldinger of Mesa, Ariz.; and two

sisters, Hazel Janssen of Newport Beach, Calif., and Ethel Bonjour

of Bemidji, Minn.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two sisters,

and two brothers.

Alfred G. Bergdale

NORTHWOOD



Alfred G.  Bergdale, 88, of Northwood, formerly of Hanlontown,

died Thursday (Sept. 19, 1996) at the Manly Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Grace Lutheran

Church, Hanlontown, with the Rev. Linda Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Hanlontown.



Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bride Colonial Chapel,

110 East Spring St., Manly. According to the wishes of the family,

the casket will be closed.



Alfred G. Bergdale was born on Nov. 22, 1907, three miles north

of Joice in Worth County, Iowa, the son of Axel and Gurina (Johnson)

Bergdale.



He was baptized on the family farm and reaffirmed his baptism

through confirmation on Aug. 14, 1921, at Bethel Lutheran Church

in Vinje.



He attended and received his education in the rural country

schools in the Worth and Winnebago County area.



He was united in marriage to Ethel Myli on Oct. 17, 1937, in

Fertile.



After their marriage, together they farmed in the Hanlontown

area until his retirement from farming in the 1960's.



He then  went to work for Winnebago Industries in Forest City

until his retirement.



He moved to the Maple Court Apartments in Northwood in January

of 1995.



He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown and was

involved in numerous church activities, Brush Point Cemetery

board member for 21 years, a 21-year charter member of the Lutheran

Retirement Home board in Northwood, Danville Township trustee

and clerk, and was on the Worth County Soil Conservation Board

for many years.



He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, and camping. He

was an avid history fan, especially the Civil War era, and was

very interested in soil conservation. But his great love and

enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ethel Bergdale of the

Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood; five daughters and one

son, Barbara Stuart of Sacramento, Calif.; Carol Navratil and

her husband, LeRoy of Plymouth; Dagna Simmons and her husband,

Mike, of Austin, Minn.; Faith Young of Rochester, Minn.; Mark

Bergdale and his wife, Julie, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Lindsey

Vandekirk (Lori Bergdale) and her fiance, Jan Roller, of San

Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;

two sisters, Esther Moser of Arcadia, Calif., Eleanor Curtis

and her husband, Frank, of Riverside, Calif.; two brothers, Gust

Bergdale and his wife, Mildred, of Ellendale, Minn., and Marlin

Bergdale and his wife, Sis, of Gettysburg, Pa.; numerous nieces

and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Alan and

Dwight Bergdale; four sisters, Alice Miller, Norma Bergdale,

Mabel Bohonek, Clara Mennenga; and two brothers, Carl and Arvid

Bergdale.

Roy C. Wilde, 85, of Osage, died Friday (Sept. 20, 1996) at

Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.



Funeral services will be  held at 1:30 p.m.Monday at St. John's

Lutheran Church, Rock Township, with the Rev. Rose Marie Lewis

officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Champion

Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 3 to 4 p.m.



Roy C. Wilde was born May 16, 1911 in Rock Township, Mitchell

County.



Survivors include his wife, Rose of Osage; two daughters, Arliene

Kuntz of Osage, and Rosemary Wilde of Mason City; one son,  Melvin

Wilde of Osage; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three

sisters, Alice Kuntz of St. Ansgar, Wilma Hackbart of Grafton,

and Vianora Feldt of Osage; and one brother, Irvin Wilde of Osage.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant siblings;

and three brothers.

Donald E. Semelhack, 71, of 4 Lions Field, Charles City, died

Thursday (Sept. 19, 1996) at a Rochester, Minn. hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John

Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Dennis Niezwaag and

Karen Rask Behling officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery,

with military honors conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial

Unit.



Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hauser

Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., and from 9 a.m. until time of

service on Monday at the church.



Donald Edward Semelhack was born Oct. 3, 1924 at Charles City.



Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Charles City; one son,

Donald E. Semelhack Jr. of Mora, Minn.; one daughter, Joan Klimesh

of Charles City; two grandchildren; and one sister, Jane Carter

of Charles City.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one

grandson.



Memorials may be directed to the Heart to Home Hospice of Charles

City or the Charles City Library.

County Memorial Hospital.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Ted Tulin was born Nov. 29, 1904 in Britt.



Survivors include one sister, Anna Tulin of Britt.

Center, and Debra Fardal of Forest City; two step-daughters,

Janice Treloar of Clear Lake, and Cindy Hamilton of San Antonio,

Texas; one step-son, Ted Klein of Clear Lake; two brothers, Ervin

Weaver of Woodruff, Wis., and Francis Weaver of Mankato, Minn.;

five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren;

and one step-great-grandchild.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one

half-sister.

Lyle Ellis Payne

Lyle Ellis Payne, 88, formerly of Hanlontown, died Friday (Sept.

20, 1996) at the home of his daughter, Dolores Brunsvold, of

rural Joice.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace

Lutheran Church in Hanlontown with the Rev. Linda Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.



Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church

on Tuesday.  Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly, is

in charge of arrangements.



The family of Lyle Ellis Payne has requested that memorial contributions

be made to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second St. S.E., Mason

City, Iowa 50401, or to the Grace Lutheran Church, 302 E. Fourth

St., Hanlontown, Iowa 50444, in his memory.



Lyle E. Payne was born on Aug. 3, 1908 in Hanlontown, the son

of Burr and Clara B. (Tebil) Payne.  He was baptized at the Wesley

United Methodist Church in Mason City and was a member of the

Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown.  He was educated at Hanlontown

Consolidated School.  He was united in marriage to Opal E. Christensen

on Dec. 24, 1927 at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Mason

City.  She preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 1995.  After their

marriage together they farmed east of Hanlontown until 1948,

when ill health forced his retirement.  Lyle and Opal operated

the Payne's Cafe in Hanlontown for a short time until moving

to Mason City.  In 1951, they moved to an acreage in Hanlontown.

He was employed at the Colby Pioneer Peat Company until his

retirement at the age of 70.  He then worked part time doing

field work for area farmers.  He enjoyed visits from family and

friends.  He also enjoyed gardening, mowing his lawn and hunting.



Lyle is survived by one daughter, Dolores Brunsvold and her

husband, Ralph, of Joice; one grandson, David Brunsvold and his

wife, Sara, of Northwood; one granddaughter, Diane Anderson and

her husband, Paul, of Hanlontown; four great-grandchildren, Trisha

and Nathan Anderson, and Amy and Matthew Brunsvold; one brother,

Lloyd Payne of Keokuk; half-sisters, Madeline Simpson and her

husband, Grant (Andy), of Caledonia, N.Y., and Lois Jennings

of Manly; one cousin, Wava Christensen of Mason City; as well

as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.



Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents,

one great-granddaughter, Emily Anne Brunsvold, and a half-brother,

Emerson Payne.

Dale V. Christopherson

AUSTIN, Minn. 



Dale V. Christopherson, 63, died Friday (Sept. 20, 1996) at

his home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Olaf

Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Harold L. Usgaard officiating.

Organist will be Neal Erickson, and pianist will be Mike Christopherson.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.  Casket bearers will

be Steve, Lynn, Mike, Barb, David, Tam and Marisa Christopherson.



Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, 209 2nd Ave.

N.W., in Austin,  from 6 to 8 p.m. today.  There will be no reviewal.



The family prefers memorials.



He was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Rose Creek, Minn., to Adolph and

Blanche (Wilson) Christopherson.  He graduated from Austin High

School in 1950.  He served four years in the U.S. Air Force during

the Korean War, and was stationed in Guam for 2 of those  years.

He married Donna Berry on Sept. 12, 1953 at St. Olaf Lutheran

Church.  He worked for the Hormel Food Corporation for over 30

years.  Dale was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, G.P.A.A.,

L.D.M.A., and served on the board at the Senior Citizens Center.



He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lynn

Christopherson of Savage, Minn, Mike and Barb Christopherson

of Chanhassen, Minn., and David and Tam Christopherson of Austin,

Minn.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; brother

and sister-in-law, Duane and Ruth Christopherson of Lake George,

Minn.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Peggy and Lloyd Lathrop

of Austin, Minn.; sister-in-law, Judy Lish of Idaho Falls, Idaho;

brother-in-law, Kenny Berry of Austin, Minn.; and nieces and

nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Donna,

in 1995.

at St. Francis Cemetery with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating.



Survivors include her parents, Robby and Lisa (Bell) Smith;

one brother, Zachary, at home; maternal grandparents, Marcia

Bell of Garner, and William and Joleyne Bell of Garner; paternal

grandparents, Jim and Judy Smith of Belmond; maternal great-

grandparents, Alvin and Margaret Dorenkamp of Clear Lake, and

Kan.

Overbrook, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Twila Roenne of Osborne,

Kan.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son,

Ella (Timmerman) Scheidegger was born May 1, 1902, in McIntire.



Survivors include two sons, Manly Timmerman of Albert Lea, Minn.,

and Robert Timmerman of LeRoy, Minn.; two grandchildren; and

three great-grandchildren.

Dana Jones

MASON CITY 



Dana Jones, 53, died Sunday (Sept. 22, 1996) at her home at

738 15th St. N.E. in Mason City.



Her body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine

and Health Sciences in Des Moines. Private family services will

be held at a later date.



Memorials in memory of Dana may be made to Hospice of North

Iowa or the Dana Jones Memorial Fund.  Cataldo Funeral Home of

Garner is in charge of arrangements.



Dana Nerice Jones, the daughter of Byron E. and Flora E. (Lundberg)

Jones, was born Oct. 11, 1942, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in

Mason City.  She graduated from Mason City High School in 1961

and from the North Iowa Area Community College nursing program

in 1972.  Dana worked as a nurse at North Iowa Medical Center

in Mason City, St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., a hospital

in Omaha, Neb., and at Humana Hospital in Plano, Texas.  Due

to ill health, she moved to Mason City in July of 1993 to be

near her family.  She enjoyed reading, traveling, music and being

with her family.



She is survived by her mother, Flora E. Jones of Mason City;

two sisters, Dara L. Miller and her husband, Gary, of Des Moines,

and Debra L. Klein and her husband, James, of Mason City; a brother,

Jay M. Jones and his wife, Connie, of Tacoma, Wash.; five nieces

and nephews, Dean Miller of Des Moines, Gina Miller of Minneapolis,

Minn., Taylor Jones of Tacoma, Wash., Logan Jones of Tacoma,

Wash., and Dimitria Klein of Mason City.



She was preceded in death by her father, Byron E. Jones in 1963;

and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Urban DeWalle, 78, died Saturday (Sept. 21, 1996) at his home.



A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate

Conception Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery

in Cresco.  Military honors will be conducted by the American

Legion and Veterans of Foreign War of Cresco.



There will be no visitation.  Hauser Funeral Home is in charge

of arrangements.



Urban Joseph DeWalle was born March 2, 1918, at Cresco.



Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Charles City; one son,

Allen DeWalle of Downingtown, Pa.; two daughters, Dianne Kossnar

of Phoenix, Ariz., and Connie Merschbrock of Burlington; two

grandsons; one sister, Dorothy Baker of Cresco; and one brother,

Charles DeWalle of Cresco.



He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one

brother.

Henry Schonwald was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Chicago, Ill., the

son of Sigmund and Olga (Lowenstein) Schonwald.



Henry graduated from Crane Tech. in Chicago, and then moved

to Mason City in 1934.  He was the owner-operator of Mason City

Dyers and Cleaners for 34 years, retiring in 1974.  Henry served

in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific.



He married Bessie Kraus on Nov. 29, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wis.



He was a member of Adas Israel Synagogue, a lifetime member

of the V.F.W. and also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge

and Am Vets.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in later years

he enjoyed dancing and spending time at the Senior Citizens Center.



Survivors include one daughter, Linda Rakita, and her husband,

Stan, of Tampa, Fla.; and two grandsons, Brett and Steve Rakita

of Tampa, Fla.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son, Terry.

Ruth Caroline Alcott was born April 6, 1910, in Black Hawk County.

15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Waudby

Donna Belle Griggs Klemesrud was born on Dec. 27, 1933, in Rockford,

Iowa, to Milo L. and Lenora B. (Riehm) Griggs.



Donna and her husband, John Klemesrud, farmed in Iowa many years.

John preceded her in death in April of 1970.



In 1984, Donna moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she worked as a

nurse's aide until retiring. She had lived in West Richland two

years.



She was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church until 1988,

and was currently a member of the Center for Positive Living

in Kennewick.



She is survived by three sons, Tracy of West Richland, Wash.;

Terry of Gladbrook, Iowa, and Tim of Duncan, Ariz.; four daughters,

Brenda Kelmel of West Richland, Wash.; Babette Thome of Adel,

Iowa; Becky Thome and Bonny Steeves, both of Heber Springs, Ark.;

19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lorraine

Hall of Rockford, Iowa.



She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister,

Eleanor Emmons.

Charles D. Carothers, 80, of 1903 Burr Oak Drive, Unit A, died

Lutheran Church, Austin,  with the Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan

on Wednesday at the church.



Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Concord

Township Cemetery, Garner, Iowa.

Charles D. Carothers was born on Feb. 24, 1916, in Garner, Iowa,

to James and Dilla (Quintus) Carothers.



He graduated from Garner High School in 1934 where he exceled

in track and football.



After graduating from Garner High School, he worked for Carl

Bohn Furniture and Funeral Home in Garner. He then moved to Austin

and worked for the Hormel Foods Corp. from 1942 to 1977.



He married Adeline Greimann on June 19, 1938, at the Peace Reform

Church in Garner, Iowa.



Chuck's hobbies included being an avid reader, playing golf,

fishing, hunting, bird watching, traveling and enjoying nature.

His first love was his family and his church. He also sang in

the church choir and loved music.



Survivors include his wife, Adeline Carothers of Austin; sons

and daughters-in-law, Ronald Carothers and his wife, Carol, of

Owatonna, and Jim Carothers and his wife, Linda, of Johnston,

Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Judy Peters and her husband, Bob,

of Harmony; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and

many nieces, nephews and cousins.



He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Verna

Veeder and Velva Neiderfrank.

Earl Croxton

SOMERSET, Calif.



Earl Croxton, 68, of Somerset, a retired wood treater, died

suddenly in a Mason City, Iowa, hospital on July 17, 1996.



Mr. Croxton was born in Mason City, Iowa, on Dec. 21, 1927.

He was the only son of Frank and Sylvia (Hazel) Croxton.



Earl married Glennys (Schmitz) on June 10, 1949.



He graduated from Mason City High School in 1946 and from Mason

City Junior College. In 1956 he received a Bachelor Degree of

Science with a forestry major from Louisiana State University.

He served six years in the U.S. Navy.



Earl was employed at International Creosote Company in Texarkana,

Texas, from 1956 to 1962; Southwest Forest Wood Div. in Prescott,

Ariz., from 1962 to 1982. In 1982, Earl moved to Selma, Calif.,

where he was part owner and president of Selma Treating Co. and

Nevada Wood Preserving Co., until he retired in 1992.



Earl enjoyed playing golf with his wife, Glennys, while wintering

in Casa Grande, Ariz., and traveling in their R.V. during the

summer months. They were traveling with their two grandsons,

Adam and Ian, and had just returned to Mason City, Iowa, for

a visit at the time of his death.



He was a member of the Elks for 32 years.



Surviving are his wife, Glennys (Schmitz); two daughters, Cindy

Jasper of San Diego, Calif., and Sara Bizzel of Australia; one

son, Michael G. Croxton of Somerset, Calif.; and five grandsons,

Ryan Lord, Eli Snyder, Forest Snyder, Ian Croxton and Adam Croxton.

Kathryn Schauf, 93, of Forest City, died Sunday (Sept. 22,

1996) at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

Interment will be in the Madison Township Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Petersen

Lund Funeral Home.



Kathryn Swanette Schauf was born in Buffalo Township, Kossuth

County,  on  Feb. 9, 1903, one of 13 children, to Herman and

Gebka (Gayken) Helm.



She attended rural school near her home.



She was married to Benjamin Schauf on Dec. 29, 1927, in Woden.



The couple began farming west of Forest City.



 In 1944, they moved to a farm near Northwood. They continued

to farm until retiring to live in Forest City in 1966. Benjamin

died in 1981.



Kathryn enjoyed crocheting and watching television. She was

a gifted cook and often won blue ribbons for baking at area county

fairs.



She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Forest City.



Kathryn remained in her home until the fall of 1994 when she

moved to Forest Haven in Forest City.



Failing health prompted her to move to the Good Shepherd Health

Center in Mason City in August of 1995. She died there on Sept.

22, 1996, at the age of 93 years.



She is survived by her son and his wife, Harvey and Helen Schauf

of Mason City; and six sisters, Martha Lounsberry of Ames; Amanda

Riekena and Marie Hodson, both of Forest City; Minnie Butler

of Albert Lea, Minn.; Letha Carver of Mason City, and Alma Mitchell

of Buffalo Center.



Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one

sister and five brothers.

Mrs. Irene I. (Nesbit) Allison, 87, of Clear Lake,  died Saturday

Irene was born Jan. 15, 1909, in Clear Lake, the daughter of

She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1927.



Following graduation, she worked for various families in the

Clear Lake area. She worked as custodian for Clear Lake Bank

and Trust, VanLoan Beauty Shop and Boyle and Schuler Law firm

for many years.



Irene married Harold Nesbit. In 1949, she married  Roy Allison.



She loved to do crocheting, sewing, gardening, reading, playing

solitaire, fishing and baby sitting for various families in Clear

Lake.



She was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church.



Irene is survived by two sons, James Nesbit and his wife, Cheryl,

of Clear Lake; and Wayne Nesbit and his wife, Carolyn, of East

Pointe, Mich.; four grandchildren, Dianna Lee Nesbit of Wichita

Falls, Texas; Wayne Lee Nesbit Jr. of East Pointe, Mich.; Heidi

Jo Nesbit and Amy Lynn Nesbit, both of Clear Lake; two great-grandchildren,

Rebecca Ann Nesbit and Andrew Wayne Nesbit, both of East Pointe,

Mich.; and nieces and nephews.

He was self employed as a home remodeler and carpenter.



He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato

and the Lake Crystal American Legion Post #0294.



He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jenkins of Mankato; two

sons, Scott Jenkins of San Francisco, Calif., and Jeffrey Jenkins

and his wife, Denise, of Lakeville; granddaughter, Danielle Jenkins;
