GARNER 



Gordon Greiman, 71, of Garner, died Tuesday (March 19, 1996)

at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zion

United Church of Christ in Garner with the Rev. Darrell D. Weber

officiating.



There will be no visitation. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, is

in charge of arrangements.



Gordon Gerald Greiman, the son of Oscar John and Lillian May

(Scott) Greiman, was born July 9, 1924, on a farm southeast of

Garner.



He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Reformed Church south

of Garner.



He graduated from Garner High School in 1941.



On March 15, 1941, he married Ruby Abele at the Little Brown

Church at Nashua. They farmed east of Garner.



On March 30, 1972, he married Betty LaRue Schroeder at Trenton,

Mo.



Gordon continued farming until 1989, when he retired.



He enjoyed his grandchildren, horses, hunting, fishing and gardening.



He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Garner.



He is survived by his wife, Betty Greiman of Garner; three children,

Patricia Mentink and her husband, Joe, of Martinsville, Ind.,

and their two daughters, Jolene Mentink and Jennifer Mentink;

Janet Abrahamson and her husband, Jon, of Nashville, Ind., and

Grant Greiman and his wife, Janel, of Platteville, Colo.; two

stepchildren, Michael Schroeder and his wife, Janet, of Kamrar

and their two children, Rodney Schroeder and Courtney Schroeder

and Linda Banks and her husband, Clint, of Chaska, Minn., and

their three children, Justin Banks, Holly Banks and Erin Banks;

two brothers, Jack Greiman and his wife, Beverly, of Clear Lake,

and Gene Greiman of Des Moines; a sister, Lana Bleil and her

husband, David, of Kingsley; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Greiman, July

2, 1984; his father, Oscar Greiman, Nov. 9, 1984; and his sister,

Gloria Boehnke in 1943.

Ethel Marie Hanson Saltou, 86, of Otranto, died Wednesday (March

20, 1996) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the

Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson

officiating. Burial will be in Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Schroeder

and Sites Funeral Home, where other arrangements are incomplete.

Marellyn E. (Honeck) Elphic, 75, of Hampton, died Tuesday (March

19, 1996) at Franklin General Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Hampton

United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry McCann officiating.

Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel

Funeral Home, and 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

The casket will be closed.



Marellyn E. Elphic was born April 14, 1920, in Iowa Falls.



Survivors include her husband, Clair Elphic of Hampton; one

daughter, Kayleen Polichetti of Honolulu, Hawaii; one son, Mark

Honeck of Hampton; one stepson, Eugene Elphic of Hampton; two

stepdaughters, Margo Stedding of Iowa Falls, and Julie Crawford

of Latimer; one brother, Glen Luscombe of Des Moines; one sister,

LaRita Buffington of Branson, Mo.; four grandchildren; and six

stepgrandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, one

brother and one sister.

Irene D., 53, of 516 Fifth St. S.E., went to be with our Lord

Wednesday (March 20, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First

Baptist Church, 125 E.State St., with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating.

Following services, her body will be cremated.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to the

services at the church on Monday.



Irene D. Miller was born Oct. 19, 1942, at New Hampton, Iowa.



She grew up in Nora Springs and graduated from Nora Springs

High School in 1960.



She has worked for the past eight years at Eaton Corporation

in Belmond.



Irene dedicated her life to her family and she loved spending

time with her grandchildren. She loved flowers and country music,

and she was George Strait's number one fan.



Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Joel and her husband,

Ian, of Lexington, Mo., and Sheryl Miller of Mason City; two

sons, Christopher Miller and his wife, Fredericka of Mason City,

and David Miller and his wife, Laarni, of Ramstein Air Base,

Germany; nine grandchildren, Jacob and Chance Miller, both of

Mason City, Christopher, Victoria, Alexander, and Eric Miller,

all of Mason City; Iaen and Kaysie Joel, both of Lexington, Mo.,

and Jordan Miller of Germany; her parents, Charles and Evelyn

Coburn of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Wilson and her husband,

Don, of Tusla, Okla., and Judy Mathis and her husband, Larry,

of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Joe Coburn and his wife, Peggy,

of Spokane, Wash., and David Coburn of Nora Springs; her birth

mother, Doris E. Peterson, Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Thelmer Miller Jr.;

and one brother, Charles Coburn, Jr.

Robert W. Nasheim Sr., 85, of 410 12th St. S.E., Mason City

died Thursday afternoon (March 21, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice

Inpatient Unit.



Private family graveside services will be held at a later date

at Memorial Park Cemetery,  with the Rev. John W. Gannett, pastor

of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

Robert was born on May 25, 1910 at Clear Lake, the son of William

C. and Lena (Hendrickson) Nasheim.



During his formative years, he lived in Clear Lake, Hecla, S.D.,

and later moved back to Mason City.



He was employed at Decker's Packing House from 1924 until his

retirement in 1974.



Robert was united in marriage to Eva Kopps on June 30, 1930

in Mason City, and to this union was born two children.



Robert was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing anywhere especially

making trips to Montana with his grandson, Ronald.



He also enjoyed woodworking and making rocking chairs and toys

for his grandchildren.



He was a cabinet maker in his spare time and he had a special

talent for sharpening knives.



He loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.



Robert was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and

while employed, was a member of the Armour Union.



Robert Sr. will be missed by his loving wife, Eva of 66 years;

one daughter,  Donna Smrha and her husband, Ronald, of Cedar

Rapids; one son, Robert W. Nasheim Jr. and his wife, Shirley,

of Mason City; three grandchildren, Robert W. Nasheim III and

his wife, Margie of Glendive, Mont.; Ronald W. Nasheim and his

fiance, Deborah Klotzbier of Mason City; Shantelle Smrha of Cedar

Rapids; and six great-grandchildren, Robert W. Nasheim IV; Michael,

Tim, Wade, and Nicholas Nasheim, and Kevin Klotbier.



Robert will join those who proceeded him in death including

his parents; there brothers, Everett, Herbert, and John; and

two sisters, Esther, and Alice Flores.

Russell K. Schwartz, 73, of 103 S. Tennessee Ave., died Thursday

(March 21, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Free Methodist

Church, 604 23rd St. S.W., with the Revs. Wayne Ryan and Vincent

Flippo officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.; and one hour prior to

service time Monday at the church.



Memorials may be given to the Russell K. Schwartz Memorial Fund.



Russell Kenneth Schwartz was born May 3, 1922, in Bridgewater,

S.D., the son of Theodore and Margaret (Cassens) Schwartz.  Russell

was educated in South Dakota and Plymouth, Iowa, and graduated

from Plymouth High School in 1941.  Through the years, he helped

plan the Plymouth High School class of 1941 reunions.  Russell

married Marguerite Ashland on Feb. 14, 1949, at the Free Methodist

Church, Mason City.  He farmed near Burchinal and northeast of

Mason City for over 25 years, retiring from farming in 1977.

While farming, he sold seed corn, P.A.G. and Farmers Hybrid,

as well as McNess feed products.  After moving to Mason City,

he was employed at Gerard of Iowa until 1981.  He was then engaged

in furniture refinishing and clock repair until his death.



Russell served on the North Central School Board of Education

and as its president in the 1960s and 70s.  He was a former member

of Mason City Rotary Club, Plymouth Elevator, and was a regular

part of the coffee shop group at Schill's Maid-Rite.  He was

an active layman in the Free Methodist Church, where he was involved

with the building of the church.  He was a member of First Church

of the Nazarene serving on various boards, teaching Sunday school

and as a denominational representative.



He loved to talk to people, striking up conversations and friendships

everywhere he went.  Only his love of Jesus Christ as his Lord

and Savior was greater than his love for his family and friends.

Some of his hobbies included fishing, trips to Canada, golfing,

visiting his children and grandchildren, and training his cat,

Socksie.



Survivors include his wife, Marguerite of Mason City; four children,

Elizabeth Faron and husband, Stephen, of Independence, Mo., Margene

Holak and husband, John, of Canton, Ill., Janice Piercy and husband,

Dr. Stephen, of Fort Dodge, and Kenneth Schwartz of Longmont,

Colo.; nine grandchildren, Christy and Andrew Faron, Dan, Peter

and Julie Holak, and Amy, Katy, Jesse and Lucy Piercy; eight

sisters, Evelyn Bartusek, Mason City, Eileen Rogness, Fergus

Falls, Minn., Vera Johnson, New Brighton, Minn., Loretta Koenigsberg,

Sheffield, Mavis Deardeuff and Lelia Hansen, both of Mason City,

June Bradley, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Judy Borchardt, Des Moines;

several nieces and nephews; and a very special family friend,

Judy Bailey.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lemerle (Huey) Eddy, 73, of Pelican, La., formerly of Swaledale,

Iowa, died Wednesday (March 20, 1996) at her daughter's home

in Pelican.



Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13,

at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale, with a fellowship at

the Swaledale Town Hall following.



Boone Funeral Home, Bossier City, La., is in charge of the

arrangements.



Her children requested that memorials be made to the Swaledale

Public Library in Lemerle's honor.



Lemerle was born May 21, 1922, in Mansfield, La., to parents,

Ruby (Lord) and Lee Huey.  She attended school in Mansfield,

La., and then college in Chilicothe, Mo., where she met and married

Glenn B. Eddy, her husband of 54 years.  Lemerle and Glenn made

their home in Swaledale where they raised their children and

ran the family based business.



Lemerle was an active member of the First Baptist Church of

Swaledale, Eastern Star, and an avid supporter of her hometown

library.



Survivors include her son, Michael Eddy of Clear Lake; daughter,

Mardee Malwitz of Pelican, La.; daughter, Kathleen Bohl of St.

Paul, Minn.; son, Dann Eddy of Destin, Fla.; and daughter, Ruby

McBride of Terrell, Texas.



Lemerle has four grandchildren, Chris Cowan of Pelican, La.;

Gretchen West of Minneapolis, Minn.; Rebecca Eddy of Clear Lake;

and Zac Bohl of St. Paul, Minn.



She is also survived by her sisters, Virginia Good of Mansfield,

La.; and Eleanor Readdick of Brunswick, Ga.; and a brother, Bobby

Thornton of Mansfield, La.



Lemerle was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn B. Eddy;

her parents; her brothers, Lee Huey and Laurie Thornton; and

her sister, Kathleen Jones.

Marion Waltman was born Dec. 26, 1917, at Bridgeport, Neb.



Survivors include one daughter, Lennice Brenner, Mapleton; one

son, Dr. Warren Waltman, Britt; two sisters, Marge Caswell,

Bridgeport, Neb., and Dorothy Perkins, Rancho Cordova, Calif.;

one brother, Frank Refior, Denver, Colo.; and six grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Errol Dennis Hoy, 52, of Charles City, died Friday (March 22,

1996) at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.

Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main and Gilbert Streets, with the

Revs. Karen Rask Behling and Dennis D. Niezwaag officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon

Monday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St.  The family

will receive friends one hour prior to service time Monday at

the church.



Errol Dennis Hoy was born April 18, 1943, in Charles City.



Survivors include one sister, Sandra Kellogg, Charles City;

three brothers, Terry Hoy, Charles City, Marvin Hoy, Prior Lake,

Minn., and Alan Hoy, Cedar Falls; his stepmother, Charlotte Hoy

Klaver, Charles City; two stepsisters, Julie Randall, Storm Lake,

and Sharly Dilling, Des Moines; and one stepbrother, Thomas Allenstein,

Rochester, Minn.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Fla.; three sisters, Gerene Fistler, Manly, Judy Eldridge, Arvada,

Colo., and Alma Shafer, Mason City; and two brothers, Henry C.

Oxley, Albany, Ga., and Michael E. Oxley, Independence.



He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.

George W. Wilson, 77, of 306 E. Douglas, Swaledale, died Friday

evening (March 22, 1996) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,

Mason City.

Lutheran Church, Rockwell.  Officiating will be the Rev. Joseph

A. Miller, pastor of the church.

Funeral Home, Rockwell.  Interment will be at Pleasant Valley

Cemetery, Swaledale.

George was born June 1, 1918, in Aredale, the son of Fred E.

and Virgie (Potter) Wilson.  He attended rural schools near the

Mason City Airport and later farmed in that area, as well as

Mason City and Swaledale.  George was united in marriage to Dorothy

Grieman on June 22, 1939, at the Methodist Church, Mason City.

To this union were born five daughters, which he fondly referred

to as ``our girls.''  In 1959, with his growing family, he moved

into Swaledale.  He held dual jobs working both for Armours and

owning and operating the Wilson Tavern in Swaledale, with his

wife's able assistance.  In his later years, he was a truck driver

for the Farmer's Co-op in Swaledale, often outworking his younger

counterparts.  He continued working until his illness prevented

it.



He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and Swaledale Volunteer

Fire Department.  George was always interested in a card game

of 500, spending time fishing up north at Pine River, Minn.,

deer hunting, and in the off season, driving with his wife and

family to watch them.



George is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and his five ``girls,''

Barbara and her husband, Allan Formanek, Clear Lake; Janet and

her husband, Robert Arndt, and Nancy and her husband, Dennis

Ward, all of Rockwell; Linda Larsen of Dallas, Texas; and Beth

and her husband, Dennis Milbrandt, Rockwell; 11 grandchildren;

12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Hamann, Ventura; and

two brothers, Bill and his wife, Elsie Wilson, Ventura, and James

and his wife, Lois Wilson, Meservey.

will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Calvary Cemetery,

Livermore.



Visitation will be held after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ewing

Funeral Chapel.



Shirley M. Otto was born Aug. 28, 1934 in Livermore.



Survivors include her husband, Kenny Otto of Britt; three daughters,

Vanetta Molencamp of Garner, Peggy Miller of Britt, and Nancy

Gilbert of Clear Lake; three sons, Thomas of Kanawha, Greg of

Wausau, Wis., and Timothy of San Antonio, Texas; one sister,

Marilyn McKenna of Garner; one brother, John McKenna of Angola,

Ind.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.



She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two

brothers.

Evelyn Olga Bennett, 71, formerly of Northwood, died Saturday

(March 23, 1996) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Conner

Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., Northwood, with the Rev. Gary

Marzolf of the United Methodist Church, Forest City, officiating.

Burial will be in the South Shell Rock Cemetery, rural Northwood.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to

service time on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.



Evelyn Olga Bennett was born on Dec. 21, 1924, the daughter

of Edward and Selma Cornella (Nelson) Lindley, in rural Northwood.

She attended and received her education in the rural country

school system in Martin Township, rural Northwood.  After completing

her education she helped her parents on the farm.  She was united

in marriage to Fred Bennett on Oct. 30, 1974 at the Bethlehem

Lutheran Church, Myrtle, Minn.



In 1979 they moved to Plainview, Texas where they owned and

operated their painting business, moving to Albert Lea, Minn.

in 1983, and then moving to Forest City in 1987, owning and

operating their painting business in Albert Lea and Forest City.



She enjoyed sewing, crafts, plants, and animals, especially

her dogs and fish aquarium, the outdoors, and cards, but her

great love and enjoyment was her husband Fred and her family

and grandchildren.



Due to her ill health she was unable to attend church, but she

always looked forward to her visits with the pastors from the

United Methodist Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest

City.



Survivors include her husband, Fred Bennett of Forest City;

two daughters, Marilyn Soto of Forest City, and Edna Callahan

and her husband, Ryan of Ellendale, Minn.; three sons, Wayne

VonHagen and his wife, Mary of Albert Lea, Minn., Dennis VonHagen

and his wife, Marcia of Mason City, and Russell VonHagen and

his fiance, Diane of Albert Lea, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; 10

great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
