Ervin Jorgensen, 90, of Osage, died Thursday (March 14, 1996)

at Mitchell County Regional Health Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Our Savior's

Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy

Ott officiating.  Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.



Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Champion Funeral

Home.



Ervin Jorgensen was born Aug. 14, 1905, at Creighton, Neb.



Survivors include his wife, Lulu, of Osage; four sons, Milton

Jorgensen of Syracuse, Kan.; Kenneth Jorgensen and Keith Jorgensen,

both of Osage, and Lloyd Jorgensen of Golden, Colo.; three sisters,

Alma Hansen and Helen Walker, both of Blair, Neb., and Bertha

Scheer of Rantoul, Ill.; two brothers, Maurice Jorgensen of Osage,

and Carl Jorgensen of Creighton, Neb.; and seven grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one son,

two brothers and two half-brothers.

Mildred Mae Richtsmeier was born Jan. 27, 1921, in rural Butler

County.



Survivors include one daughter, Venita Mahler Richtsmeier of

Dumont; two sisters, Evelyn Borneman of Hampton, and Betty Wickham

of Dumont; and two grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son.

Gene Garrett, 81, of Lakota, died Thursday (March 14, 1996)

at Heritage Nursing Home, Bancroft.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian

Church with the Rev. J.C. Chambers officiating.  Burial will

be in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Graveside services will be provided

by the Lakota American Legion.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Garry-

Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft.



Gene Garrett was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Lakota.



Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Walker of Rochester,

Minn.; three sons, Jerry Garrett of Milwaukee, Wis.; Jack Garrett

of Lakota, and Byron Garrett of Casper, Wyo.; several grandchildren

and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Murriel Ridgeway of Nevada,

Madeline Origer of Clarion, and Bessie Gun of Spicer, Minn.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant

son and one brother.

Aurine K. Comstock, 93, formerly of Sulphur Springs, Belmond

and Mason City, died Thursday (March 14, 1996) at the Riverside

Chautauqua Guest Home following a brief illness.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Faith

United Assembly of God Church, Storm Lake, with the Rev. Garth

L. Lambie officiating.  Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial

Park Cemetery, Storm Lake.



Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services on Monday

at the church.  The Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, Charles City,

is in charge of the arrangements.



Aurine Katherine Neuman Comstock was born Aug. 25, 1902, in

Ashkum, Ill.



Survivors include one son, Charles Comstock of Charles City;

one daughter, June Hoecher of Coleville, Ill.; two sisters, Mary

Hanson of Storm Lake, and Emma Rundell of Houston, Texas; nine

grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son,

two sisters and three brothers.

at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Opal Myrtle Gregory

MANLY 



Opal Myrtle Gregory, 92, of Manly, died Wednesday (March 13,

1996) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bethel

United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Poulsen officiating.

Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.



Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bride Colonial Chapel,

110 E. Spring St., and one hour prior to services at the church

on Monday.  According to the wishes of the family, the casket

will be closed.



Opal Myrtle Gregory was born on July 26, 1903, the daughter

of William and Minnie (Stockton) Courtright in Remington, Ind.

She attended and received her education in the rural country

schools in Shoals, Ind.  She was united in marriage to James

Gregory Sr., on Dec. 12, 1925, in Mitchell, Ind.  He preceded

her in death on Oct. 16, 1977.  After their marriage, in the

late 1930s, they moved to Mason City, and in the early 1940s

they moved to Manly.



She enjoyed flowers and crocheting, but her great love and enjoyment

was raising and caring for her family.



Survivors include two daughters, Lynda Gregory of Manly, and

Louise Wells and her husband, Orlyn, of Nampa, Idaho; two sons,

Gerald Gregory and his wife, Margaret, of Nampa, Idaho, and Robert

Gregory of Manly; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;

two daughters-in-law, Lavonne Gregory of Plymouth, and Kathy

Hegwer of Rossie; a son-in-law, Charles Hanson of Chisholm, Minn.;

two sisters, Mable Hickman and her husband, John, of Shoals,

Ind., and Hazel Rominger and her husband, Jess, of West Baden

Springs, Ind.; two brothers, Kenneth Courtright of Chicago, Ill.,

and Chester Courtright and his wife, Margie, of Shoals, Ind.;

as well as other relatives and friends.



Besides her husband, she was  preceded in death by her parents;

three sons, James Gregory Jr., Patrick Gregory, and William Gregory;

two daughters, Evelyn Gregory and Barbara Hanson; three sisters;

and two brothers.

Virginia Ann ``Gin'' Mulert, 67, of 739 Third St. S.W., died

at her home with her family at her side on Thursday (March 14,

1996).



Funeral services are planned for 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph

Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with Father James Hayes

officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. 

A luncheon will follow at the Moose Lodge.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fullerton

Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with Women of the Moose memorial

services taking place at 5 p.m.  Visitation will continue from

2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with wake services conducted by the Sisters

of the Presentation at 7 p.m.



Virginia was born on Nov. 14, 1928, in Mason City, the daughter

of Leo J. and Anna (Nash) Skyles.  A lifelong resident of Mason

City, Gin was united in marriage with Marwood ``Woody'' Mulert

at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, on Jan. 10, 1953.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Women of

the Moose, and was the Secretary/Treasurer of Mulert Enterprise.



Gin is survived by her husband, Woody; stepmother, Vera Skyles

of Mason City; two daughters, Mrs. Ross (Kathleen) Loew, and

Mrs. Walter (Susan) Houseright of Dallas, Texas; three sons,

James L. (Laurie) of Faulkner, Md.; Stephen M. (MeHe) of Korea,

and Robert A. of Mason City; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Margaret)

Gallagher of Hampton, Sister Mary Annette of Algona, and Mrs.

Ralph (Janet) Sturges of Marietta, Calif.; two brothers, Jack

(Geneva) Skyles of Temple, Texas, and Gerald (Clarice) Skyles

of Portland, Ore.; and six grandchildren.

15, 1996) at her home.

Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Jana Swenson

of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Clear

Lake Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral

home, where a Rebekah's service will be held at 7 p.m.



Memorials may be made in memory of Ethel B. Cook.



Ethel was born Nov. 11, 1911 in the Clear Lake area.  She married

Clarence Cook in 1935 in Shreveport, La.  She enjoyed sewing

and the company of her faithful dog, Nicole.



She is survived by two sons, Daryl Cook and his wife, Jan of

Minneapolis, Minn., and Donovan Cook and his wife, Dixie of Irving,

Texas; two brothers, Les Levisay of Rockford, Ill., and Jim Levisay

of Ponca, Neb.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Clarence

Cook.

Edna Bergetta Nielsen Hansen

LATIMER



Edna Bergetta Nielsen Hansen died Friday (March 15, 1996) at

the Hampton Health Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Nazareth

Lutheran Church, Coulter, with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating.

Burial will be in the Coulter Cemetery.



Friends may call at the Willim Funeral Home from 3 to 7 p.m.

today.  The family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.



Edna Bergetta Nielsen Hansen was born Oct. 24, 1899 in Minneapolis,

Minn., the daughter of Rev. A.M. and Emma Bromstead Nielsen.

Her father was a Lutheran minister and they lived several places

until 1915 when he came to serve the congregation at Nazareth

Lutheran Church in Coulter.



On April 14, 1920, Edna was united in marriage with Johannes

(J.C.) Hansen at Nazareth Church.  They farmed several years.

From 1938 until 1948 they operated Hansen Grocery in Latimer.

Jack died on June 11, 1980.



Edna died on Friday (March 15, 1996) at the Hampton Health Care

Center where she had made her home for the past year.  She had

attained the age of 96 years, four months and 20 days.



When her health permitted, Edna had been active in her church

by serving on many committees, the ladies groups, and singing

in the choir until she was 90.  She was also a member of the

Latimer Park Society and a past president of the Hansen-Have

Post of the American Legion Auxiliary.



Those left to cherish her memory are three children, Jean M.

Fischer of Latimer, Donna M. Martin of Mason City, and Dr. John

D. Hansen and his wife, Marlys of Rio Verde, Ariz.; five grand-

children; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Garfield

Nielsen of Culver City, Calif.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant

brother and sister; three brothers, Dr. R.F., Dr. T.G., and Dr.

A.M. Nielsen; a granddaughter, Pamela Hansen; and a great-great-

granddaughter.

Lake United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. North, with the

Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.  Burial will be in the Clear Lake

Cemetery.



Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial

Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and will continue one hour prior to

services at the church on Monday.



Winnie was born April 25, 1912 in Marion Township, Hampton,

the daughter of John and Maggie (Halfwassen) Dannen.  She was

baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural

Hampton.  She attended rural grade school and graduated from

Gates Business College in Waterloo.  She was employed in the

office of the Earl Ferris Nursery, Hampton, for several years.



She married Emil Fred Deike on Nov. 25, 1936 at Zion Reformed

Church parsonage, rural Sheffield.  They moved to Hardin County

and farmed there for four years in the Iowa Falls and Ackley

areas.  They then moved to Cerro Gordo County and farmed in the

Rockwell, Swaledale, Meservey and Thornton areas.  They retired

from farming in November, 1973 and moved to Clear Lake.  She

was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.



She is survived by six sons, Donald and his wife, Carol, and

Roger and his wife, Cheryl, all of Clear Lake, James and his

wife, Mildred of Garret, Ind., Leroy and his wife, Lois, Marlin

and his wife, Diane, and Alvin and his wife, Susan, all of Mason

City; three daughters, Lola Barrick and her husband, Francis

of Center Point, Waneta Leege and her husband, Ray of Odebolt,

and Evonne Lents and her husband, Dale of Winterset; one brother,

Otto S. Dannen and his wife, Thelma of Latimer; 20 grandchildren;

and three great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil, who died in

May, 1989; her parents; one brother; and three sisters.

Milo was born near Rockwell, the son of Edward David and Kathryn

(Thiese) Bergman.  He graduated from Rockwell High School.  He

was united in marriage to Elmyra Eckert on Dec. 9, 1944 in Emmetsburg.

Milo was baptized and confirmed a life-long member of St. Peter

Lutheran Church, Rockwell.  He was a Cerro Gordo County road

maintenance worker until he retired in 1983 at the age of 67.



Milo is survived by his son, Harold Bergman and his wife, Rouline

of Eldora; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Betty) Huntbatch, and

Mrs. Rick (Audrey) Laudner, all of Rockwell; one brother, Woodrow

W. Bergman of Rockwell; and six grandchildren, Ryan and Beth

Bergman, Scott and Nicole Huntbatch, and David and Sarah Laudner.



Milo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elmyra;

three brothers, Clarence, Edwin and Lawrence; and his sister,

Kathlyn Gibson.

Robert C. Abendano, 37, of Hampton, formerly of Tucson, Ariz.,

died Saturday (March 16, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center,

Mason City, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident north

of Rockwell on U.S. Highway 65.



A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the

Catalina Mission Catholic Church, Tucson, Ariz.  Burial will

be in Holy Hope Cemetery, Tucson.



Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Adair Funeral

Home, 8090 N. Northern Ave., Tucson, Ariz. (85704), where the

rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.



Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E.,

Mason City, is in charge of the arrangements.



Robert C. Abendano was born Nov. 1, 1958, in Tucson, Ariz.,

a son of David and Juanita (Castillo) Abendano.  He graduated

from Catalina High School, Tucson, in 1976.  He entered the United

States Army and served in the Engineers Corps in Germany.



Following his discharge, he returned to Tucson, and became

a state certified correctional officer.  In 1992, he moved to

Hampton, Iowa.  He was a pre-polisher machinist in the chrome

plating division of the Seebees Corp. of Hampton.  During his

time in Iowa, he attended North Iowa Area Community College in

Mason City.



Living family members include his parents, David and Juanita

Abendano of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Danielle Nichole and

Amber Sue Abendano, both of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; a sister, Margaret

Abendano, Tucson; two brothers, Gabriel Abendano, Tucson, and

George Abendano, Hampton; and a niece, Tanua Sonoqui, and two

nephews, Adam and Aaron Abendano, all of Tucson.

Survivors include four daughters, JoAnn Payne, St. Paul, Minn.,

Mary Zuehl, Toeterville, Suzzane Allen, Donna, Texas, and Deborah

Oelkers, Gransburg, Wis.; two sons, Jaynard Johnson Jr., Lansing,

Minn., and Richard Johnson, Owatonna, Minn.; three sisters, Martha

Von Hagen, Estherville, Ruby Koeder, Pequot Lakes, Minn., and

Irene Sexton, Northwood; and 22 grandchildren and 18 great-

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters,

four brothers, a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson.

Annis J. Thorson, 87, of St. Ansgar, died Saturday (March 16,

1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center West, Mason City.

Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating.

Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schroeder

and Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.



Annis J. Thorson was born Oct. 31, 1908, on the family farm

in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, a son of Ole E. and Amelia

(Moe) Thorson.  He lived in the St. Ansgar area all his life,

all but nine years on the family farm.  He married Rose Streich

He was an active member of the U.S. Farmers Association and

recently received the Iowa Pioneer Family Award given by the

Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.



Survivors include his wife, Rose Thorson of St. Ansgar; two

sons, Jerry Thorson, Waverly, and Merlyn Thorson, St. Ansgar;

one sister. Rose Fries, St. Ansgar; six grandchildren, Michelle

Sears, Teresa Thorson, Jon Thorson, Cory Thorson, Allison Thorson

and Greg Thorson; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Anna

Sears.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alma Sanders

Mrs. Radcliff, the former Thelma Loretta Nelson, was born April

26, 1912, in Mason City, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Streeck)

Nelson.  She graduated from Mason City High School in 1930.

On Sept. 6, 1934, she married Merrill J. Radcliff.  Mrs. Radcliff

was an elevator operator for the former Merkle's Department Store

in Mason City.



She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.



Living family members include a daughter, Patricia Sturges of

Mason City; two grandsons, David Sturges and wife, Mary Etta,

and Brian Sturges, all of Rockwell; and four great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Radcliff.

Milo was born near Rockwell, the son of Edward David and Kathryn

(Thiese) Bergman.  He graduated from Rockwell High School.  He

was united in marriage to Elmyra Eckert on Dec. 9, 1944, in Emmetsburg.

Milo was baptized and confirmed a life-long member of St. Peter

Lutheran Church, Rockwell.  He was a Cerro Gordo County road

maintenance worker until he retired in 1983 at the age of 67.



Milo prided himself in his gardening skills and claimed to have

the best garden in Swaledale.  He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Milo loved his six grandchildren and devoted dog, Rebel.



Milo is survived by his son, Harold Bergman and his wife, Rouline,

of Eldora; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Betty) Huntbatch and Mrs.

Rick (Audrey) Laudner, all of Rockwell; one brother, Woodrow

W. Bergman of Rockwell; and six grandchildren, Ryan and Beth

Bergman, Scott and Nicole Huntbatch and David and Sarah Laudner.

Gerald ``Jerry'' Kafer was born on March 17, 1918, in Mason

City, the son of Herman and Agnes (Holub) Kafer.  He attended

the Mason City School system, graduating with the class of 1936.



He was united in marriage to Arlene Kennedy on June 18, 1938,

in  Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City.  They made their home

on a farm east of Rockwell where he raised over 400 head of cattle

each year, while he also worked as a night watchman for a Mason

City warehouse which later became Carroll Sales.



During his 27 years with them, he worked as a truck driver and

as a salesman.  He also worked as an oiler for several companies

doing dam construction and road construction for 15 years.  He

and his wife also owned and operated two western stores, The

Hitching Post and the Double K Tack, for 11 years.  Both stores

were located in Rockwell.  Jerry enjoyed raising canaries, carving

and painting loons and raising quarter horses.



He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Sheffield; one daughter,

Carolyn Koch, of Sheffield; one son, William, and his wife, Diane,

of Manly; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters,

Marilyn Thomas of Bremington, Wash.; Alberta Mouw of Monroe;

and Lorraine Kafer of Mason City; and one brother, Floyd Kafer

of Sumner.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister

and one brother.

Carl R. True was born Oct. 2, 1927, at Stahl, Mo., son of Henry

S. and Lela True.



The family moved to Mason City in 1929. He attended the Mason

City School system.



Carl entered the United States Army Air Corps on July 20, 1944,

and served as a military policeman until his discharge on July

28, 1947.



Following his discharge, Carl worked at Northwestern Distributing

Company, then worked 27 years at Higley Cold Storage.



Carl married Clara (Boyle) on May 1, 1948.



Carl loved fishing, gardening, hiking, bike riding with the

grandchildren and listening to his album collection.



Carl is survived by his wife, Clara, and his nine sons and their

wives, Dick and Sue, Tom and Rhonda, Dennis and Lisa, Steve,

David and Judy, Randy, Kenny and Jayna, Don and Ericka, Robert

and Bridget. Also his five daughters and their husbands, Debra

True, Cindy (True) and Tom Stricker, Becky (True) and Tony Shannon,

Jackie was born March 22, 1911, in Madison, Wis., the daughter

of George and Dora (Nelson) Dasen. She attended school in Ottosen.



On March 5, 1927, she was united in marriage with Chester Truman

Gunderson.



The couple made their home first in Clarion and later in Belmond,

where Chester farmed and worked for the railroad.



Jackie was a homemaker and worked for many years at the Belmond

Community Hospital as a cook, which she enjoyed very much.



In 1983, she was honored as ``Cook of the Year'' and in 1988,

she was honored as ``Mother of the Year'' in Belmond.



Jackie was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

She also belonged to the Grandmother's Club.



She loved to play cards, visit with her many friends, and be

with her family.



Jackie is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Eckhoff and her husband,

Richard, of Belmond; one son, Dean Gunderson and his wife, Mavis,

of Duluth, Ga.; six grandchildren, Julie Boelman and her husband,

David; Jim Eckhoff and his wife, Connie; Jon Eckhoff and his

wife, Dawn; Cathy Straub and her husband, Robert; Susan Gunderson;

Dennis Gunderson and his wife, Jane; five great-grandchildren,

Gordon A. Coyier was born May 11, 1920, in Clear Lake, Iowa,

to Guy Alvin Coyier and Viola Lundy Coyier.



Gordon A. Coyier was united in marriage to  Betty L. West on

Sept. 3, 1978, in Reno, Nev.



Gordon grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa. His mother died in 1926

and he was raised by Herbert and Flora Lundy.



He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1940. While he was

in high school, he played football and worked as a lifeguard.



He had been a bouncer at ``The Surf.'' He worked in Baltimore,

M.D., for an aircraft manufacturing company, then joined the

United States Army Corps during World War II and stayed in the

service until 1960.



He lived in Colorado and worked for the U.S. Geological Survey

Department and moved to Sequim, Wash., in 1982. He worked with

the U.S. Geological survey team at Mount St. Helens at the time

of the eruption. He was  a photographer and a pilot.



He was a charter member of Sequims Elks Lodge #2642. He belonged

to the Civil Air Patrol.



Survivors include his wife, Betty Coyier of Sequim, Wash.; one

son, Gordon A. Coyier of Youngstown, Ohio; stepsons, Ronald and

Gerald West, both of Sequim, Wash.; daughters, Cindy Fairfield-Smith

of Silverthorne, Colo., and Kim Coyier of Port Orchard, Wash.;

stepdaughter, Cynthia K. West of Pascadero, Calif.; a brother,

Kenneth Rasmussen

Kenneth Rasmussen, 73, of Forest City, died Monday (March 18,

1996) at his son's home in Woodbury, Minn.

Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Petersen Lund

Funeral Home.  A Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m.



Kenneth Rasmussen was born in Goldfield on Aug. 16, 1922, the

son of Fred and Dora (Helmke) Rasmussen.  He attended rural schools

in Humboldt County and graduated from Goldfield High School in

1939.



He farmed his entire life, first in Goldfield and then he moved

with his parents to a farm in rural Wesley in 1942.



He was married to Rita Loebig on Nov. 9, 1944. in St. Joseph's

Catholic Church in Wesley.  The couple moved to a farm in Leland

in January 1950.



Kenneth served on the ASCS Township Committee and then was on

the Winnebago County ASCS County Committee for 17 years.  He

also served on the FHA board.  He was secretary of the Forest

City Golf Club board of directors; a member of St. James Catholic

Church and served on the First Parish Council.  He was active

in the planning and building of the new St. James Church and

was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 52 years.



In 1975 the Rasmussens retired and moved to Leland.  Kenneth

served as councilman and mayor and was instrumental in the building

of the present Leland Community Center.  He was mayor during

Leland's centennial in 1982.  He also delivered Winnebago motor

homes for many  years.  He loved farming, hunting, fishing, golf

and billiards  and especially his children and grandchildren.



The Rasmussens spent the winters in their Arizona home for the

past 13 years.



Kenneth faced his diagnosis of cancer with calm acceptance.

He died at his son's home in Woodbury, Minn., on March 18, 1996

at the age of 73 years.



Kenneth is survived by his wife, Rita, of Forest City; daughter,

Mary, and her husband, John Forslund of Tulsa, Okla.; son, Tom,

and his wife, Bonnie, of Woodbury, Minn.; and five granddaughters,

Martha Linscott, Michelle Carter, Mary, Lori and Karin Rasmussen;

two brothers, Forrest ``Pat'' Rasmussen of Wesley and Merle Rasmussen

of Evergreen, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Beryl was an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed gardening.

She was born Sept. 1, 1917, the daughter of Delbert and Jenny

(Bunny) Crosby in Butler County, Iowa, west of Greene.

Maxine attended a rural school near her home.



She moved to Washington state in 1941, where she was in a number

of businesses and also was a retail clerk.



Maxine was married to Lloyd Wilkins for 20 years.



A few years after his death, she married Clarence Sowers.



Softball was one of her favorite sports. In 1944, her Portland

team won the World's Softball Title. She became an avid golfer

and was president of the Women's Golf Club Association, in Yuma,

Ariz., one year.



She enjoyed dancing and playing bridge. She taught herself to

Maxine is survived by her husband, Clarence; her goddaughter,

Phyllis Jeanne and her spouse, Charles Gronberg of Dumont, Iowa;

one brother, Jim Crosby of Lyle, Wash.; and several nieces and

nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; and four brothers

and sisters.

Gordon C. Norem

MASON CITY 



Gordon C. Norem, 85, of 321 Fourth St. N.E., Shalom II, died

Monday (March 18, 1996) at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland

of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial

Park Cemetery where a flag folding ceremony will be conducted

by the Mason City Veteran's Association.



Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today and will continue until

service time at the funeral chapel.



Gordon C. Norem was born March 16, 1911, in Forest City, the

son of Howard and Tila (Osheim) Norem.



Gordon farmed southeast of Thompson for many years.  He served

in the Army during World War II, and was stationed in Japan.

In later years he moved to Mason City and did various jobs until

retiring.  He enjoyed farming and the animals.  Later years,

he liked gardening and cooking.  He was a member of the National

Rifle Association.



Survivors include five sisters, Margaret Aspenson of Mason City;

Lucille Norring of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mildred Feeney of Bloomington,

Minn.; Maxine Marks of Mason City, and Helen Adams and her husband,

Everett, of St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dorothy Margaret Trappe, 75, of Manly, died Monday (March 18,

1996) at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Min.



A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart

Catholic Church in Manly with Father Thomas McAndrew officiating.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Manly.



Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday with a public

Scripture rosary at 5:30 p.m. at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110

East Spring St., Manly.



The family of Dorothy Margaret Trappe has requested that memorial

contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in

Manly in her memory.



Dorothy Margaret Trappe was born on Feb. 2, 1921, the daughter

of George and Susan (Rolfes) DeSotel in Guttenberg.



She attended and received her education in the Catholic school

system, graduating from the Guttenberg Catholic High School in

1938.



After completing her education, she worked as a bookkeeper

in a Chevrolet garage in Guttenberg.



She was united in marriage to Elmer Trappe on May 6, 1946, in

Wisconsin.



After their marriage, they farmed primarily in the Mason City

and Manly area.



She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and of various

ladies church circles in Manly.



Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Elmer Trappe of

Manly; five sons, Edward Trappe and his wife, Cathy, of Eagle

River, Alaska; Roger Trappe and his wife, Candy, of Albert Lea,

Minn.; Dennis Trappe and his wife, Ellen, of Fort Wayne, Ind.;

Victor Trappe and his wife, Mary, of Carmel, Ind., and Thomas

Trappe and his wife, Cheryl, of Rock Falls; two daughters, Linda

Schreiber  and her husband, Tim, of St. Cloud, Minn,. and Patricia

Waters and her husband, Don, of Oelwein; many grandchildren and

great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leo DeSotel of Guttenberg,

Mark DeSotel and his wife, Alice, of New Vienna, and Geroge DeSotel

and his wife, Marge, of Latimer, as well as other relatives and

many friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters,

Anastacia Frommelt, Leona Wieser and Mildred Wernke.



Pallbearers will be her sons, Edward Trappe, Roger Trappe, Dennis

Trappe, Victor Trappe and Thomas Trappe. Honorary pallbearers

will be  her two daughters, Patricia Waters, and Linda Schreiber

and their spouses, Tim Schreiber and Don Waters.

Gerald Wesley Kafer, 78, of Sheffield, died Sunday (March 17,

1996) at home.



Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter

Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Joseph Miller officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup

Funeral Home, Sheffield.



Gerald ``Jerry'' Kafer was born on March 17, 1918, in Mason

City, the son of Herman and Agnes (Holub) Kafer.  He attended

the Mason City School system, graduating with the class of 1936.



He was united in marriage to Arlene Kennedy on June 18, 1938,

in  Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City.  They made their home

on a farm east of Rockwell where he raised over 400 head of cattle

each year, while he also worked as a night watchman for a Mason

City warehouse which later became Carroll Sales.



During his 27 years with them, he worked as a truck driver and

as a salesman.  He also worked as an oiler for several companies

doing dam construction and road construction for 15 years.  He

and his wife also owned and operated two western stores, The

Hitching Post and the Double K Tack, for 11 years.  Both stores

were located in Rockwell.  Jerry enjoyed raising canaries, carving

and painting loons and raising quarter horses.



He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Sheffield; one daughter,

Carolyn Koch of Sheffield; one son, William, and his wife, Diane,

of Manly; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters,

Marilyn Thomas of Bremington, Wash.; Alberta Mouw of Monroe;

and Lorraine Kafer of Mason City; and one brother, Floyd Kafer

of Sumner.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister

and one brother.
