memorials to the Melvin F. Muth Memorial Fund.

Melvin was born March 15, 1911, in Rockwell, the son of Edward

and Elizabeth (Plank) Muth.  He attended school at Bath Township

No. 6 School.  Following the deaths of his parents, he became

a farmer, at a young age, in the Mason City area and remained

farming until his retirement in 1975, when he moved into Mason

City.  During those years, he farmed for 12 years in the Britt

area.  As a farmer, he spent many years custom farming.  His

love of the earth and hard work continued into his later years

as he took great pride in his yard and landscaping.

Melvin was united in marriage to Berniece V. Berry on May 27,

1933, in Lincoln, Neb., and to this union were born five children.

After his wife's death in 1988, he was united in marriage to

Merilayne Ferrier on sweethearts' day, Feb. 14, 1989, at Wesley

United Methodist Church, where he was a member.

He was also a life member of the Moose Lodge and a member of

the Eagles.  During his early years, Melvin was a catcher for

the Cartersville Sluggers and this enjoyment followed throughout

his life with being a Cubs and Braves fan.  If you visited Melvin,

you could generally find a baseball or basketball game on.  He

enjoyed the dances at the Moose Lodge and would drop everything

to play a game of 500.  As most farmers need to be, he was a

great handyman with plumbing and electrical work and could figure

out how to fix most anything.

Melvin will be missed and remembered by his wife, Merilayne,

Mason City; his daughter, Mrs. Leon (Carol) Lewis, Vinton; his
