Fern Dresbach
DELAND, Fla.
Fern Dresbach, 71, died Saturday (July 13, 1996) at the Volusia
Memorial Hospital, DeLand, Fla. She had moved to the Alliance
Nursing Home in DeLand, Fla., in June.
Fern Dresbach was born Sept. 10, 1924.
She was raised on a farm in Mason City, Iowa, and attended high
school at Clear Lake, Iowa.
After graduating from St. Paul Bible College in 1944, she continued
her missionary studies at Nyack College in New York, graduating
in 1946.
Fern went as a missionary to the Chippewa Indians on the White
Earth Reservation in Minnesota.
Later she joined family at Big Sugar Bush Lake, Minn., where
she and her mother raised Indian welfare children and operated
a fishing resort until 1970.
She and her mother moved to Tropical Gardens Mobile Home Park
in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was employed by Rosedale Manor where she served in several
capacities.
Graveside services will be held at Clear Lake, Iowa, at a later
date.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas Mac Dresbach, of Mason
City, Iowa; a sister, Tomme Ann Weaver, of St. Petersburg, Fla.;
a niece, Tammy Dresbach; and four nephews, Rod and Terry Dresbach
and Dan and Jonathan Weaver.

GREEN VALLEY, Ariz.
Ruth Whipp Sherwin, 78, of Green Valley, Ariz., died Thursday
(July 25, 1996) at her daughter's home in Ames, Iowa, of cancer.
There will be private family services. Adams Funeral Home, Ames,
is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Whipp Sherwin was born on March 17, 1918, in Des Moines,
Iowa, a daughter of Lloyd A. and M. Isabelle (Farpuhar) Whipp.
She was a 1941 graduate of Iowa State College in home economics.
She was united in marriage to Douglas F. Sherwin on June 30,
1942, in Beverly Hills, Calif.
She lived in Clear Lake, Iowa for 25, years; Quad Cities, Iowa,
and Illinois, for 12 years; and Green Valley, Ariz,. for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas; sons, Daniel W. Sherwin
of Mankato, Minn.; Peter F. Sherwin of Cape Coral, Fla., and
Andrew A. Sherwin of Eden Prairie, Minn.; daughters, Sally S.
Jeffrey, of Blacksburg, Va., and Jane S. Randall, of Ames, Iowa;
and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lloyd
Lauden Whipp.

George ``Jay'' Hansen Jr., 72, of 311 S. Spring St., Rock Falls,
died Thursday (July 25, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center
East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rock
Falls United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis McMillan
officiating. Burial will be at the Rock Falls Cemetery with a
flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial
Association.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and one hour
prior to services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or
the Rock Falls United Methodist Church.
George ``Jay'' Hansen Jr. was born May 4, 1924, in Rock Falls,
the son of George and Bertha (Coonrod) Hansen.
After graduating from Rock Falls High School, Jay served in
the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, part of that time in
Europe.
He married Mary Dunton on Sept. 20, 1946, at the parsonage in
Plymouth.
Jay worked at Northwestern States Portland Cement Company as
a carpenter for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a lifelong resident of Rock Falls.
Jay was a member of the VFW, DAV and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hansen of Rock Falls; daughters,
Mary Linn Hansen of Salem, Ore., and Sherry Bridges and her husband,
Chad, of Plattsmouth, Neb.; granddaughters, Laurie and Amy Bridges;
sister, Shirley Wyborney and her husband, Roger, of Rock Falls;
one brother, Rodney Hansen and his wife, Alta, of Mason City;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

and Glaydon Grunhovd, both of Scarville, and Hazel Bridenbaker
of The Colony, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Hugh Dickinson was born July 15, 1907, in Pennsylvania.
He married Helen Wagner on Dec. 24, 1949, at Nashua.
Hugh was a longtime employee of Jacob E. Decker and Sons in
Mason City.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Dickinson; grandchildren,
Rodney Dickinson of Mason City; Jeffrey Dickinson of Mason City,
and Debra Lawler, of Mason City; and daughter-in-law, Rosemary
Dickinson of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; two sisters; and

L. LaVonne Awe, 71, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (July
24, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fullerton
Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with the Rev.
Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment
will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
LaVonne was born on Dec. 15, 1924, the daughter of Rudolph and
Maude (Underwood) Awe.
Following her father's death at an early age, she was raised
by her mother and stepfather, Earl King.
She was a former employee of North Iowa Vocational Center.
Even though she was never married, she enjoyed spending time
with her family and kidding around with her nieces and nephews
and all her great-nieces and nephews.
She especially enjoyed taking small jaunts around the countryside
and attending Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines.
Her athletic abilities garnished her several trophies in bowling
with the handicapped league and she attended the Senior Citizens
Center regularly and played bingo at Good Shephard where she
lived.
LaVonne is survived by her two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Clara) Wilson
of Mason City, and Mrs. Russ (Lola) Truax, of Humboldt; 23 nieces
and nephews; and many, many great and great-great-nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by per parents; stepfather; three
sisters, Eva Hathaway, Erma Meyer and Geraldine Wike; and three
brothers, Ernest, Orville and James Awe.

Charles W. Lackmann, 55, of 18 Beaumont Drive, died Wednesday
(July 24, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils
C. ``Chris'' Hellevik officiating.
There is no visitation. The body was cremated. Major Erickson

Memorials may be given to Charles W. Lackmann Memorial Fund.
Charles was born Oct. 15, 1940, at St. Cloud, Minn., the son
of Otto H. and Loretta (Schwanke) Lackmann.
He graduated from Moorehead State College, Moorehead, Minn.
He was married to Muriel Barclay in 1963 at Hettinger, N.D.
He has lived in Mason City for the past 20 years, where Charles
was employed as an independent agent with American Family Insurance
Company.
He enjoyed playing cards and biking and will be remembered as
a loving husband, father and friend, who will be missed by all.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Murial Lackmann of Mason City; one
daughter, Debra Freeman and her husband, Eric, of Farmers Branch,
Texas; one son, Scott Lackmann, of Rockford, Ill.; brothers,
Robert Lackmann and his wife, Marge, of Sauk Centre, Minn., and
David Lackmann, of St. Cloud, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

James R. ``Jim'' Cunningham, 57, of 2218 N. Carolina Ave.,
died Thursday (July 25, 1996) at his home of natural causes.

officiating.

James R. Cunningham was born Dec. 4, 1938, on a farm in Scott
Township, Floyd County, Dougherty, the son of John R. and Margaret
M. (Smith) Cunningham.
He married Kay Jean Davis on Oct. 1, 1958, at Holy Family Catholic
Church, Mason City.
Jim grew up in the rural areas east of Dougherty.
He attended St. Patrick's grade school and graduated from St.
Patrick's High School, Dougherty, in 1956.
In the fall of 1956, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve
and received his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
In the fall of 1957, he moved with his family to Mason City,
and worked in building construction.
He worked as a service manager at the Ford dealerships in Mason
City for 29 years.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and his morning walks.
He was a devoted father and grandfather.
He enjoyed woodworking projects, hosting and cooking at family
gatherings, attending antique auctions and auto auctions.
He loved listening to country music, and in his formative years,
enjoyed playing saxophone.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kay; two daughters, Tammy Sue Brandt
and her husband, Barry, of Cedar Rapids, and Marilyn Kay Wendel
of Mason City; one son, Christopher James Cunningham, of Mason
City; four grandchildren, Aaron Brandt of Cedar Rapids; Nathan,
Mandy and Margaret Wendel, of Mason City; one brother, John R.
Cunningham, of Mason City; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and
cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents,
James and Susan (Noss) Cunningham; maternal grandparents, Bernard
and Ellen (Hanley) Smith; an infant brother, John R. Cunningham
in the year 1925; and a sister, Romona R. Warner, July 22, 1983;
and a brother-in-law, Bobby Warner in May of 1988.

Ubbe E. Ubben was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Kossuth County.
Survivors include his wife, Therese Ubben of Titonka; two sons,
Mike Ubben of Dakota City, and Philip Ubben of Sioux City; two
daughters, Kathy Nelson of Algona, and Pamela Ubben of Titonka;
10 grandchildren; two brothers, John Ubben of Buffalo Center,
and Herman Ubben of Titonka; and three sisters, Grace Smidt of
Titonka, Marie Murra of Buffalo Center, and Dorothy Giesking
of Titonka.

Ruby, daughter of Eric and Stella (Romseland) Knutson, was born
on Friday, April 26, 1907, in Eagle Grove.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Eagle Grove. She attended school in Eagle Grove.
Ruby married Lloyd Lerdal on Aug. 26, 1926, at the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.
They farmed near Goldfield and moved to a farm in Belmond in
1941.
She and Lloyd operated the Standard Oil Station in Belmond from
1952 until they retired in 1973.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Gold Star
Mother, Grandmother's Club and Trinity Lutheran Church circles.
She was named ``Mother of the Year'' in 1983.
She was well known for cooking and baking her kumla.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Lloyd, of Belmond; sons, Kenneth
Lerdal of Thornton; Roland ``Bud'' Lerdal and his wife, Carol,
of Berne, Ind., and Robert ``Bob'' Lerdal and his wife, Diane,
of New London; daughters, Jan Meints and her husband, Glenn ``Moo,''
of Belmond, and Beverly Lande and her husband, Jim, of Sumner;
15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Richard, Roger
and Tom; grandson, Alan Lee; great-granddaughter, Kimberly; daughter-in-law,
Shirley; two sisters; and six brothers.

Mary Elizabeth Wood Sheppard

Mary Elizabeth Wood Sheppard, daughter of Byron and Hazel (Dart)
Sloan, was born Oct. 19, 1934, in Marshalltown. She passed away
Thursday (July 25, 1996) at Franklin General Hospital at the
age of 61 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Aredale
United Methodist Church, Aredale, with Pastor Kathryn Bell Houston
and Father Gerald Condon officiating.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home, Hampton.
The hymns ``You'll Never Walk Alone'' and ``On Eagles Wings,''
will be played by Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe and sung by Shauna Schurman.
Pallbears will be Cale Johnson, Nic Sheppard, Sam Sheppard,
Brock Sass, Caleb Sheppard and Nathan Rusinack. Honorary pallbearers
will be Trenton Wood, Mark Wade, Michael Wade, Marti Wade, Zeb
Sheppard, Clint Sheppard, Kelly Sheppard and Cie Ann Johnson.
Ushers will be Stephanie Sass and Mindy Nicholson.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Hampton Cemetery.
Mary graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1952, and attended
an art school in Minneapolis, Minn.
She was united in marriage to John Richard Wood on Aug. 22,
1953, in Omaha, Neb., and settled in Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas
and Wyoming.
To this union, four children were born. Her husband, John Richard
Wood preceded her in death in 1986.
She was united in marriage to Max W. Sheppard on Nov. 24, 1989,
in Clear Lake.
To this union, four stepchildren were added to her family.
Mary's great joy in life were her children, family and friends.
Survivors include her two daughters and a son, Mr. and Mrs.
Ronald (Pamela) Wade, of Laramie, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. Mark (Penny)
Johnson, of Greene; and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Wood, of Laramie,
Wyo.; her stepchildren, two sons and two daughters, Mr. and Mrs.
Lynn Sheppard of Purcell, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Todd Sheppard of
Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Janet) Sass of Sheffield and Kathy
Sheppard and John of Newton; her mother, Margaret L. Sloan of
Conrad; one sister, Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Glenna) Palmer of Dubuque;
grandchildren, Marti, Mark and Michael Wade of Laramie, Wyo.;

Elvira Luella Doble, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Boehnke)
Hollatz, was born Oct. 25, 1922, at Garner.
She attended school at St. John's Parochial School through sixth
grade and then the Garner Community Schools where she graduated
in 1940.
After receiving her executive secretarial training at Hamilton's
Business College in Mason City, she worked as a cashier at Gildner's
Men's Clothing in Mason City, as a secretary at O'Connor's
Manufacturing Company in Mason City, and from 1942-1945, she was
a secretary to B.C. Berge in Garner.
On Sept. 12, 1944, she was married to George Doble at Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Belvidere, Ill.
In 1946, they began farming northeast of Garner and in 1957
continued farming southeast of Klemme.
After purchasing the Sport Bowl in 1960, they moved to Garner.
In 1962, Elvira was employed as secretary to the Superintendent
of Schools of the Garner-Hayfield Community School. She continued
in this position for 25 years, retiring in 1987.
Music was the highlight in her life and for a number of years
she sang with the Sweet Adelines.
She enjoyed her family singing as a group.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, LWML, Ruth Circle,
St. Paul Choir, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a life
member of the VFW Auxiliary in Garner.
She is survived by her husband, George Doble of Garner; four
sons, Dennis Doble of Garner; Joel Doble and his wife, Michelle,
of Garner; Curtiss Doble and his wife, Michelle, of Shoreview,
Minn., and Bill Doble and his wife, Pat, of Garner; a son-in-law,
Stan Greiman and his wife, Michele, of Garner; 13 grandchildren,
Brian Doble and his wife, Jacquie; Sara Doble; Lori Doble; Ed
Greiman and his wife, Cindy; Angie Homann and her husband, Dave;
Matt Greiman; Nikki Doble; Misty Doble; Nathan Doble; Amanda
Doble; Megan Doble, Staci Doble and Jasmine Doble; stepgrandsons,
Brandon Stromer and Jamie Stromer; great-granddaughter, Taylor
Sue Homann; a sister, Ella Wetterling of Garner; and a sister-in-law,
Dorothy Hollatz of Garner.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Greiman, Sept.
6, 1985; her parents; an infant sister, Erna Hollatz; a brother,
Conrad Hollatz; and a brother-in-law, Earl Wetterling.

The family of Admiral Dewey Tate has requested that memorial
contributions be made to New Bethel Baptist Church in Manly in
his memory.
Admiral Dewey Tate was born on April 24, 1893 in Eldorado, Ark.,
the son of Albert and Pauline (Moore) Tate. He attended and
received his education in the Free Union School System in Eldorado,
Ark. He was united in marriage to Willie ``Pinkie'' Mae Green
on Dec. 6, 1913, in Eldorado. She preceded him in death on July
20, 1994. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 8, 1917,
serving his country during World War I until his honorable discharge
on April 9, 1919. In 1993, he was awarded the World War I 75th
Anniversary Commemorative Medal. After his honorable discharge
he moved back to Manly and worked for the Rock Island Railroad
as a boiler maker and maintenance worker until his retirement
in 1958.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and softball.
He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, and a 50-year
member of the Edward Tosel American Legion Post #110, all in
Manly.
He is survived by two sons, Lavelle Tate of Manly, and Herman
Tate and his wife, Janet, of Campbell, Calif.; three daughters,
Olivia Darrow and her husband, Charles, of Stanford, Conn., Jeanette
Crawford and her husband, William, of Woodbridge, Va., and Ann
Duff of Lincoln, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;
and one sister, Bloomer Turner of Pittsburgh, Penn.; as well
as other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents;
one son, A.D. Tate Jr.; one daughter, Wilma Searcy; one brother,
Leonard; and two sisters, Alma and Willie.

school she began a lifetime career of being a cook and waitress
for various restaurants in the North Iowa area. She was united
in marriage to Claude Cordill in 1949 and they made their home
in Iowa Falls for a short period of time before moving to Mason
City and then Meservey where they lived their lives together.
In 1984 she moved to Thornton before moving to the Oakwood Care
Center in Clear Lake in 1994. She enjoyed crocheting afghans,
stocking caps and mittens for the RSVP program and her church.
She is survived by her sister, Mildred Borchet of Grafton; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two children;
two brothers; and six sisters.

George Lew Parks

George ``Shorty'' Lew Parks was born Jan. 23, 1909 on a farm
near Alexander, the son of John W. (Will) and Margaret O'Hearn
Parks. The family moved to Chapin where he grew to manhood and
received his education. During World War II he served with the
Army.
On Feb. 3, 1946 George and Dorothy M. Jones were united in marriage
at the Methodist Parsonage in Hampton. This union was blessed
with three children. They farmed near Alexander, retiring in
1981 to Latimer.
George died at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton on Saturday
morning (July 27, 1996) at the age of 87 years, six months and
four days. He had been a patient there for two weeks.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy of
Latimer; daughter, Mary Schreiber and husband, Jerry, of Kanawha;
son, Robert and wife, Ardith, of Alexander; five grandchildren,
Douglas Schreiber, Lorrie Allen, Doreen Whipple, and Tiffany
and Jennifer Parks; four great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Zachary
and Kaylee Schreiber, and Brittany Allen; two brothers, Edward
and Clyde of Hampton; and three sisters, Helen Terrill and Evelyn
Bass of Hampton, and Nell Parks of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glenn
and Frank; a sister, Margaret Torgensen; and his son, John, in
1973.
For many years he was a member of the Hansen-Have Post of the
Latimer American Legion.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United
Methodist Church in Alexander with the Rev. James Turner officiating.
Military honors will be given by the Latimer American Legion
at the Alexander Cemetery.

Wayne was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in
Minneapolis as a member of the Parish Council, choir, lecturer
and Eucharistic minister.
He is survived by his wife, Teri, of Minneapolis, Minn.; his
parents, Ed and Mary Purcell, of Mason City; two brothers, Mike
Purcell and his wife, Marti,, of Buena Park, Calif., and Don

William Clayton Purviance was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Guthrie
County, the son of Charles W. and Mamie Cobean Purviance.
Bill grew up in the Guthrie County area.
He graduated from Panora High School in 1938, then farmed in
the area for several years.
On Dec. 22, 1943, Bill was married to Helen G. McCurdy at the
Christian Church in Montieth, Iowa. Bill and Helen farmed for
a short while.
Bill became employed with Williams Pipe Line Company. During
his 35 years with the company, he lived in Des Moines, Dixon,
Ill.; and spent his last 17 years with the company at Clear Lake,
Iowa. Bill had served Williams Pipe Line Company in many capacities
over the years, and was an electrician technician when he retired
on March 1, 1985.
Bill and Helen moved to Des Moines, then resided in Hot Springs,
Ark. for four years. In 1993, they moved to Jefferson, Iowa.
Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson.
He liked to golf and enjoyed yard work.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Jefferson; three sons,
Jack of Altoona, Dennis of Mason City, and Mike of Soldotna,
Alaska; one daughter, Peggy Lander of Hermantown, Minn.; one
sister, Ilo Bassett of Menlo, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; one great-
granddaughter; and other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Marie Steere was born April 10, 1914, in rural Coldwater
Township, Butler County, Iowa, a daughter of William and Sophia
(Drogemuller) Steere. She died Monday (July 29, 1996) at her
home in rural Greene.
She received her education at the Coldwater No. 7 Country school.
As a young lady, she worked on the family farm.
She was united in marriage to Alvin William Klunder on June
13, 1941, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Macon, Mo. Since their
marriage, they have farmed at the same location for 55 years.
Dorothy was baptized on May 24, 1914, and confirmed a member
of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene on April 10, 1927.
She faithfully served her Lord as Sunday school teacher for
55 years and was always willing to share her faith with others.
She enjoyed cooking, baking bread, quilting and flowers.
She will be remembered for the letters she wrote and the stick
of gum or balloon that accompanied it.
Living family members include her loving husband, Alvin of Greene;
two daughters and their spouses, Judy and Richard Laube of Charles
City, and Patricia and Jim Meek of Dows; two sons and their spouses,
Richard and Rose Klunder of Greene, and James and Joyce Klunder
of New Hampton; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Lela Steere and Sophia Steere, both of Greene; four
brothers, Leo Steere, Henry Steere, Vern Steere and Eugene Steere,
all of Greene; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Leona
Steere; and two brothers, John Steere, and William Steere Jr.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials
to the St. Peter's Lutheran Sunday School.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Beckman
officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.
Ima Jean Birch was born June 2, 1933, in St. Paul, Minn., daughter
of Clifford and Verene (Rahm) Dehnert.
She married Paul Birch on Sept. 25, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Mason City.
Ima Jean grew up in Mason City and graduated from St. Joseph
Catholic School in 1950.
She then attended LaJames Beauty School.
She and her husband moved to California, where she worked as
a legal secretary.
Following her husband's death in 1984, she returned to Mason
City.
Jean's biggest pride was her grandson, Austin.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Birch and his wife, Lynda,
of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one grandson, Austin Birch, of Mission
Viejo, Calif.; one brother, Gerald Dehnert and his wife, Joan,
of Mason City; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two
brothers, Donald and Wilber Dehnert.

Mabel ``Irene'' Stockberger, 91, of 241 Willowbrook Drive,
died Sunday (July 28, 1996) at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the
Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with
the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Interment will be in Memorial
Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major
Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour
prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Mabel ``Irene'' Stockberger Memorial
Fund.
Mabel ``Irene'' Stockberger was born April 1, 1905, in Green
City, Mo., the daughter of Calvert A. and Ina (Pratt) Sears.
She grew up in the Eldora and Burchinal areas and graduated
from the eighth grade at Burchinal.
Irene married Fred Stockberger on Jan. 20, 1924, in Mason City.
They have been long time residents of the community.
Irene was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Chuch, U.C.T.
Auxillary, Queen Rebekah Lodge and Family Motor Coach Association.
She enjoyed traveling, fishing and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Fred J. Stockberger of Mason
City; son, Lloyd Stockberger and his wife, Vera, of Mason City;
daughter, Winifred Rasmussen and her husband, James, of Mason
City; daughter, Viola Fisk and her husband, LeRoy, of Mason City;
daughter, Ellen Weiss and her husband, Frank, of Mason City;
daughter, Betty Clarke of Mason City; son, George Stockberger
and his wife, Mary Lou, of Mason City; 21 grandchildren; 35
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister,
Alice Pope of Mason City; a brother, Warren Sears and his wife,
Maxine, of Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sons in infancy
in 1932; two sisters, Elizabeth Pope and Lena Kline; one brother,
William Theodore Sears; and one granddaughter, Caroline Rasmussen
Dyer.
