Lenore E. `Lennie' Beach

MASON CITY



Lenore E. ``Lennie'' Beach, 70, of 3375 Brandywine Road, died

Sunday (July 14, 1996) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St.

James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David

Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery,

Northwood.



Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to the services

at the church on Wednesday.



Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa, North Iowa Mercy

Cancer Center or St. James Lutheran Church, in memory of Lenore

E. Beach.



Lennie was born May 18, 1926, in Lake Mills, daughter of Oscar

and Tilda (Brackey) Anderson.



She was married to Walton W. Beach on July 21, 1946, at Salem

Lutheran Church, Northwood.



Lennie attended Lake Mills Country Schools and graduated from

Northwood High School.



She and her husband resided in Northwood until they moved to

Clarion, Waterloo, Jewell, and eventually settled in Webster

City where she raised her family.



She relocated for a few years to Greeley, Colo., prior to returning

to the Northwood and Mason City area.



She worked at Sedars Motors for over 10 years as a business

office manager until retiring in 1994.



Lennie enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, spending time outdoors

and most of all being with her family.



She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.



Survivors include one daughter, Diane K. Wertz and her husband,

Myron, Corona, Calif.; three sons, Wayne A. Beach and his wife,

Diane, of San Diego, Calif.; David P. Beach and his wife, Debbie,

of Algona, and James W. Beach of Longmont, Colo.; seven grandchildren,

Dawn Habhab and her husband, Dean, of Moreno Valley, Calif.;

Melanie Derryberry and her fiancee, John Stjernberg, of West

Des Moines; Justin and Jamie Beach, both of LaSalle, Colo.; Brittany

and Garrett Beach, both of Algona, and Brandon Beach of San Diego,

Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Cody Habhab of Moreno

Valley, Calif.; four sisters, Orean Davison of Mason City;  Adeline

Flugstad, Albert Lea, Minn.; Theola Chaplin and her husband,

Merle, of Iowa Falls, and Lavonne Rushing of Albert Lea, Minn.;

one sister-in-law, Millicent Irons of Northwood; and many nieces

and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ernest,

Norman, Donald and Tilford Anderson; and three sisters, Bernice

Huus, Iolet Richardson and Crystal Butler.

MASON CITY 



Claudia M. Boyd, 83, formerly of 604 S. Taylor Ave., died Sunday

(July 14, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace

Evangelical Free Church, 804 N. Tyler Ave., with the Rev. Bill

Burt and Brother Mark Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Westside

Cemetery, Marble Rock.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services

at the church.



Mrs. Boyd was born March 15, 1913, in Floyd County, daughter

of Chester and Josie  (Miller) Eikenberry. She married Burt Boyd

at Charles City on July 6, 1931. The couple farmed at Aredale

for over 30 years, and then upon retiring, moved to Mason City

in 1968.



She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Free Church, Mason

City.



Mrs. Boyd had resided at Good Shepherd Health Care Center for

the past five years.



Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Camelia) Mowrey,

Marshalltown, and Mrs. Don (Sharon) Muhlstein, Mason City; one

son, Bill Boyd and his wife, Jeanette, Marble Rock; one brother,

Dean Eikenberry, Charles City; one sister, Jean Nikolas, Osage;

nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded  in death by her parents; her husband in 1981;

three brothers, Byron Eikenberry, Myron Eikenberry and Raymond

Eikenberry; one son, Burt Boyd, Jr.; and one great-grandson,

Dean Boyd.

Doris Fern Kluss

MASON CITY



Doris Fern Kluss, 71, of 210 Seventh St. S.E., died Tuesday

(July 2, 1996) at her home.



Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St.

Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., with the Rev. James B.

Norem officiating. Inurnment will be in Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart.



The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., is in charge of arrangements.



Doris Fern Kluss was born April 3, 1925, a daughter of Henry

and Eldora Darling. She was adopted by Ada and Vernie Kluss in

December of 1927.



She spent most of her childhood in Sanborn and graduated from

Sanborn High School. The family moved to Mason City in 1949.



Doris joined Central Lutheran Church, later St. Paul's and became

a charter member of the church.



Doris met her birthmother and graduated from LaJames Beauty

School after her father's death.



Doris and her mother moved back to Elkhart, and then to Sanborn.

She later returned to Mason City after her mother's death.



Doris worked as a beauty operator, a seamstress and as an aide

in a nursing home.



After retiring, she did volunteer work at the Salvation Army.



Doris loved quilting and her three cats, Dion, Tunes and Charly.



She was a member of the North Iowa Quilters Guild, the Lake

Area Quilters, Koinonia Piecemakers and the Tuesday Quilters.



She also was a member of St. Paul Women's Group, Priscilla Circle

and the St. Paul Choir.



Survivors include one aunt, Laura Garles, of Kent, Wash.; 15

cousins and their families; two sisters, Muriel Rosson and her

husband, Joe, of Ottumwa, and Dorothy Post; childhood friends,

June Armstrong of Vermillion, S.D., and Eileen Riead of Colorado

Springs, Colo.; and many special friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her adopted parents;

and one brother, Kenneth Darling.

Conklin O. Hansen

MASON CITY 



Conklin O. Hansen, 84, of 1525 S. Massachusetts Ave., died Sunday

(July 14, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul

Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., with the Rev. James B. Norem

officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery, Manly, with

full military rites by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to

services at the church.



Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in memory

of Conklin O. Hansen.



Conklin O. Hansen was born May 25, 1912, in  Forest City, the

son of Dr. Otto A. and Bertha (Moe) Hansen.



He attended and graduated from Forest City High School in 1931

and Waldorf College in 1933.



He went on to attend the University of Iowa.



He entered the United States Army in 1943 and served in North

Africa, Italy and Germany during World War II. He was discharged

in 1945.



He married Doraine Pinta on Aug. 18, 1946, in Manly.



He was employed by Sears for 28 years as department manager,

retiring in 1972.



Mr. Conklin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, life member

of the VFW and former member of the Sons of Norway.



He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing,

especially for trout, and reading.



Survivors include his wife, Doraine Hansen of Mason City; one

son, Jeffrey J. Hansen of St. Ansgar; two grandchildren, Jamie

Hansen of St. Ansgar, and Stephanie Allison of Mason City, and

her son, Jacob; one brother, Franklin Hansen and his wife, Alma,

of Forest City; one sister, Eva Fanton of Fairfield, Calif.;

and one half-sister, Adela Salveson of Forest City.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Olive

Morrissey.

Layton Nonnweiler

F0REST CITY 



Layton Nonnweiler, 79, died Saturday (July 13, 1996) at Good

Samaritan Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the United

Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating.  Burial

will be in the Madison Township Cemetery.



Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.



Petersen Lund Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Layton Nonnweiler was born on a farm in Hancock County, on Nov.

30, 1916, the son of Ferdinand and Isabell (Bessey) Nonnweiler.



He received his education in rural school and graduated from

Forest City High School.



On Dec. 21, 1937, he was married to Hylene Brower in Forest

City.



The couple farmed south of Forest City until the early 1950s

when they moved to southern California, where Layton worked in

a farm implement business.



The couple returned to North Iowa where they operated a grocery

store in Miller from 1957-1959.



In 1959, Layton returned to California and began working for

Boeing Aircraft as a technical writer.  Until 1966, he worked

on the Minuteman missle project.



The couple then moved to Florida where Layton worked with the

moon shot program. In  1970, he and Hylene purchased a grocery

store and meat market in Titonka, where they lived until 1977.

At that time the couple moved to Joplin, Mo., where Layton worked

in the real estate business. He began woodworking as a hobby

at that time, but it developed into a thriving concern, selling

his rough wood pieces to craft stores for final finishing.



He was an avid bowler and golfer. He liked to dance and play

cards and knew how to enjoy life. He would try anything once.

Layton didn't wait for the world to come to him, he went out

to see it for himself.



Due to failing health, Layton retired and the couple returned

to Forest City in 1989.



On June 12, 1996, Layton entered the Good Samaritan Center in

Forest City. He died there on July 13, 1996, at the age of 79

years.



He is survived by his wife, Hylene Nonnweiler of Forest City;

one daughter, Leila Rovang and her husband, Larry, of Eden Prairie,

Minn.; two grandsons, John Rauser of Minneapolis, Minn., and

Jim Rauser and his wife, Kim, and two great-grandsons, Matthew

and Markus Rauser, all living in Germany.



Layton was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,

Clair and Marvin Nonnweiler.

Vernon Fleshner

CLEAR LAKE 



Vernon Fleshner, 84, of 900 Fifth Ave S., died at noon  Monday

(July 15, 1996) at his home after suffering an illness.



A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Clear

Lake Christian Church, 302 Highway 18 West, with the Rev. Larry

Squier officiating.



The graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Oak

Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, with a Masonic Service.



The only visitation will be one hour before services at the

church.



The Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, is in charge of arrangements.



Vernon was born the son of Henry and Carrie Wildeboer Fleshner

on Sept. 15, 1911, in Butler County, near Parkersburg.



After graduating from Parkersburg High School, he attended college

in Waterloo and Mankato, Minn.



On Easter Sunday, April 12, 1936, Vernon was united in marriage

to Reba Howard in her parents' home in Marshalltown, by the Rev.

Rice.



Vernon was a division manager for Sears Roebuck for 31 years

in Mason City. They moved to Clear Lake in 1963, and Vernon retired

in 1966.



He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Masonic

Lodge.



Vernon is survived by his wife, Reba Fleshner, Clear Lake; two

grandchildren, Dan and Wendy; and five great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Beverly

Jane; two sisters, Tillie Nicklaus and Grace Buss; and four brothers,

Chris, Dave, Henry and Bennie Fleshner.

Wayne Edward Koop, 38, of 7301 Fleur, Des Moines, died Sunday

(July 14, 1996) at home of cancer.



Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Clear

Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the Clear Lake United

Methodist Church officiating.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton's

Funeral Home, 605 Lyon, Des Moines, with the family present from

6 to 8 p.m.



Wayne Edward Koop was  born May 14, 1958, to William Edward

and Betty (Sheldon) Koop in Ontario, Calif.



He lived in Clear Lake from 1969 to 1986.



He was a factory worker by trade.



Survivors include his mother, Betty Koop of Prairie City; one

son, Weston Koop of Clear Lake; one daughter, Elizabeth Koop

of Spirit Lake; and one sister, Karen Sponheim of Prairie City.



He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Robert E. Meyer, 75, of 717 S.E. Sherman Drive, Ankeny, died

Sunday (July 14, 1996) at Mercy Medical Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ankeny

Funeral Home, 1510 W. First St., Ankeny. Burial will be in Ankeny

Memorial Gardens, with graveside military rites by Boline-Manfredi

VFW Post #9662.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ankeny

Funeral Home, with the family present from 4 to 8 p.m.



A memorial fund has been established in his name.



He was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Mason City to Emory and Mabel (Eberhardt)

Meyer.



He served in the United States Navy during World War II.



He was united in marriage to Orvilla Hanson on July 26, 1942,

at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.



He was a route salesman for Hiland Potato Chip Company for 26

years. He retired in 1979.



He was an active member of the Polk City American Legion Post

#232, and life member of the Boline-Manfredi VFW Post #9662.



Survivors include his wife, Orvilla, of Ankeny; three sons,

Garry Meyer of Grimes; Dennis Meyer of Grimes, and Greg Meyer

of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Kimberly Scherer of Grimes; seven

grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Cash of Clear Lake.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one brother, John Jernegan of Hampton.

Melvin Olive of Arizona.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter,

one granddaughter, one great-grandson, four brothers and three

sisters.

Edwin C. Muhlenbruch was born Nov. 9, 1909, in Hamilton Township,

Franklin County.



Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Peyton of Coulter; five

grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-

grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and

two sisters.

Rodney C. Hansen

Rodney C. Hansen, 45, of Ventura, died Monday (July 15, 1996)

at his home.



Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the

Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, with the Rev.

David Strommen officiating. Military rites will be conducted

by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo

Funeral Chapel.



Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa in memory

of Rodney Hansen.



Rodney Charles Hansen, the son of Alvin ``Pete'' and Marilyn

(Dahl) Hansen, was born May 12, 1951, at Scotia, Calif.



He attended grade school in Scotia, Calif., and, in 1962, moved

with his family to Rockwell where he graduated from high school

in 1969.



He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during

Vietnam from 1969 to 1971.



After his discharge, he returned to Rockwell where he worked

at Clear Lake Aluminum and then drove truck for Fast Food Merchandisers

until his accident in 1979.



On Dec. 31, 1982, he was united in marriage to Mary Fangman

at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.



The couple made their home in the Mason City area and in 1982,

opened their first Movie Time Video Store in Mason City.



They moved to Ventura in the fall of 1995, where he passed away

at the age of 45.



Rod was a trucker at heart and loved to travel on the road to

see the country.



He enjoyed listening to music and reading history.



He was a life member of the Rockwell American Legion.



He is survived by his wife, Mary Hansen of Ventura; a daughter,

Karie Ann Coutant and her daughter, Kaitlyn, of St. Mary's, Ga.;

a son, Bryan Charles Hansen of Manly; father and stepmother,

Alvin ``Pete'' and Ardeen Hansen of Garner; brothers and sisters,

Dennis Hansen of Mason City; Diane Rose and her husband, Rick,

of Amarillo, Texas; Eric Hansen of Garner; Kathy Montgomery and

her husband, Tom, of Forest City, and the Rev. David Strommen

and his wife, Anita, of Clarinda; several stepbrothers and stepsisters;

and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn, in 1991; and

his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Donald J. Beeler Sr.

WAVERLY



Donald J. Beeler Sr., 79, of the Allison Manor Nursing Home,

Allison, and formerly of Waverly, died early Tuesday morning

(July 16, 1996) at the Waverly Municipal Hospital of natural

causes.



Graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday

at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Waverly, with the Rev. Jim Miller

officiating. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.



Memorials should be directed to the family.



Kaiser Corson Funeral Homes Inc., 218 Second St. S.E., Waverly,

is in charge of arrangements.



He was born on July 25, 1916, in Mason City, the son of Oscar

M. and Amelia  Edna (Schnieder) Beeler.



He attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City

High School in 1936.



He then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where he attended the

Frank Wiggins Trade School to learn the printing business.



Don worked for one year in Los Angeles and then returned to

Mason City where he became an apprentice printer with the Central

Printing Company.



On Jan. 29, 1939, he was united in marriage to Verna Mae Brandt

in Clear Lake.



The couple made their home in Mason City and on May 2, 1944,

he entered the United States Army during World War II.



Following his discharge on Nov. 18, 1944, he returned to his

job at Central Printing.



In 1946, the couple moved to St. Louis, Mo., and Don worked

for the Comfort Printing Company for the next five years.



They then moved to Odebolt, and he worked for the Odebolt Chronicle

Newspaper until 1956 when they moved to Waverly where Don became

employed by the Waverly Publishing Company.



Verna died  on May 11, 1980, and in 1982, Donald retired.



On Feb. 19, 1991, he became a resident of the Allison Manor

Care Center.



He is survived by one son, Jerry Anthony Beeler; four grandchildren;

several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Statzer

of Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verna; one

son, Don J. Beeler Jr.; and one sister, Bonnie Dodge.

Muriel Boettcher was born Dec. 14, 1921, in St. Paul, Minn.



Survivors include her husband, Alvin Boettcher of Lakota; one

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.



She was united in marriage to Lawrence ``Pete'' Skjeveland on

Jan. 18, 1936, in Mason City. ``Pete'' died in August of 1995.



She is survived by two sisters, Edna Dishom of Appleton, Minn.,

and Irene Dennis of Mason City; one brother, Elmer Olson of Thompson;

sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.



She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters

and two brothers.

Frank B. Mason

Frank B. Mason, son of Elmer and Alice (Gill) Mason, was born

Jan. 31, 1911, in Swaledale. He passed away Saturday (July 13,

1996) at the Wayne County Hospital, Corydon, at the age of 85

years, five months and 12 days.



Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17,

at the Randolph Funeral Home, Allerton, with the Rev. Leroy Perkins

officiating. Interment was in the Allerton Cemetery.



The hymns ``Beyond The Sunset'' and ``How Great Thou Art'' were

played and sung by Geannie Radcliff.



Pallbearers were Frank Fayer, Douglas Pierce, Rocky Mason, Herbert

Mason, Steve Mason, Donald Mason Jr., David Mason, Frank Mason,

Roger Mason Jr., Jerry Mason, Brad Mitchell and Mike Fuson.



A memorial was established to the donor's choice.



He attended schools in Swaledale and graduated from Swaledale

High School.



He was united in marriage to Lucille Stevens on Nov. 27, 1931,

in Galena, Ill,. and settled in the Swaledale area. To this union,

seven children were born.



Frank and Lucille farmed in the Swaledale area and ran a produce

in Malcom and Monroe. They later moved to Marshalltown and ran

a trucking firm.



In later years, they semi-retired in the Montour area. Upon

full retirement, they traveled in a camper.



For the past four years, Frank had been living with his daughter

and son-in-law, Marjorie and Jay Grismore.



Survivors include his four sons, Donald Mason of Dubois, Wyo.;

Roger Mason of Marshalltown; Robert Mason of Irvine, Calif.,

and John Mason of Council Bluffs; two daughters, Marjorie Grismore

of Allerton, and Audrey Mitchell of Iron River, Wis.; 25 grandchildren;

45 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; plus numerous

other relatives and friends.

and Plymouth area, died Wednesday (July 17, 1996) at the Rockwell

Care Center.

Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with the Rev.

Ronald Stein of the First Baptist Church in Mason City officiating.

Clyde M. Beery was born on May 19, 1905, in Nebraska, the son

of Ernest and Minnie (Dodd) Beery.



He attended and received his education in the rural country

schools in Iowa.



He owned and operated a farm in the rural Grafton area in Worth

County from 1942 until his retirement in 1965.



After his retirement, he worked part time for the Metro Bus

Company in Mason City as a mechanic until his retirement.



He was united in marriage to Laone DuToit in 1931. She preceded

him in death.



He was united in marriage to Sybil Wherry on Feb. 21, 1970,

in Plymouth. She preceded him in death in 1982.



He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and working with his hands.



He was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church.



Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Birkholz and her husband,

Robert, of Naples, Fla., and Sharon Sabin and her husband, Duane,

of Des Moines; two sisters, Betty Drier of Mason City, and Beatrice

Mikalson of California; two brothers, Donald Beery and his wife,

Connie, of Kensett, and William Beery and his wife, Ruth, of

Waterloo; five grandchildren, Mark Birkholz and Jay Birkholz,

both of Mason City; Dr. Shawn Sabin of Dubuque; Brad Sabin of

Aurora, Ill., and Shannon Sabin of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren;

as well as other relatives and friends.



He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laone; his second

wife, Sybil; parents; one sister; and six brothers.

Thelma was born Sept. 6, 1910, at Hansell, the daughter of William

and Alice (Hanley) Dodd.



Thelma lived on the family farm southeast of Rock Falls for

30 years.



She married Carl Hodge in 1970 and moved to Alden, where she

lived for a number of years.



She had lived in the Mason City area for the past 10 years.



Thelma is survived by a sister-in-law, Velma Dodd, of Nora Springs;

and numerous nieces and nephews and their families throughout

the area.



She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Schulte; two

brothers, Victor and Virgil Dodd; and her parents, William and

Alice Dodd.

Vicki was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of

Walter and Nina (Gustafson) Williams.



She attended schools in Fort Dodge, where her father was a member

of the city administration, serving for many years as the Commissioner

of Streets and Roads.



She was a graduate of the American Institute of Business in

Des Moines and was employed for several years by a Minneapolis

advertising agency.



On May 19, 1946, she married Donald J. Marshall of Mason City

in the Presbyterian Church of Fort Dodge.



The Marshalls settled in Mason City in 1951, when D.J. Marshall

became a partner and eventually president of Marshall and Swift

Inc.



Vicki was a talented Mason City homemaker, mother and hostess.



In 1986, they retired to make their home in Arizona.



Survivors include her daughter, Kay Ella Henryson and husband,

Gary, of 2505 Yorkshire Court, College Station, Texas 77840;

a grandson, A.J. Henryson of College Station, Texas; a sister,

Virginia Merrill and husband, Freeman, of Sheldon; a brother,

Ronald Williams of Fort Dodge; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard

(Doris) Williams of Fort Dodge; and several nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1993; her

parents; and two brothers, Eugene H. ``Bud'' Williams and Richard

W. Williams.



The family suggests memorials may be directed to the Boy Scouts

of America or Hospice of North Iowa.
