Ruth Margaret Holt was born Nov. 21, 1910,  on a farm near Clear

Lake to R. Herbert and Margaret (Andrews) Holt.

She graduated from Clear Lake Schools in 1928 and completed

school teacher training, but the untimely death of her mother

on Ruth's 17th birthday curtailed Ruth's teaching career.

On Dec. 7, 1929, she married Alfred Zirbel at the Holt home

in Clear Lake. The couple lived near Rockwell, where their first

three children were born.

In 1936, they settled on their farm four miles north of Swaledale

they lived in a house they both worked to reconstruct until Ruth

moved to a care center on Aug. 4, 1994, most recently at the

IOOF Home in Mason City.

Ruth's family and friends were her life. While in good health,

she was always busy doing things for others.

A quilting group met every week in her home for many years during

the 1970s when many comforters, lap robes, bibs and other hand

sewn items were given away to anyone who asked or needed.

She was a faithful member of the Clear Lake United Methodist

Church and United Methodist Women. She and Al also attended the

Clear Lake Senior Citizen Club regularly.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Alfred, who lives at their

home, 708 S. 13th St. Clear Lake; 10 children, Glen H. Zirbel
