Raymond Harley Henningsen

CLEAR LAKE



Raymond Harley Henningsen, 78, 1412 Main Ave., died Wednesday

(July 10, 1996) at his home.



Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with the Rev.

Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.



The family will be at the funeral home one hour before services

to greet friends.



Inurnment will be in the columbarium at Memorial Park Cemetery,

Mason City, with military honors conducted by the Clear Lake

VFW.



The family suggests memorials be given to the Raymond H. Henningsen

Memorial Fund.



Ray was born July 24, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of

Harley and Mary Ellen (Tapper) Henningsen.



He attended school in Cedar Rapids and high school in  Anamosa.



Ray drove semi in Waterloo in 1937.



He served in the United States Army during World War II and

drove truck in Iran while in the service.



He moved back to Parkersburg and drove semi.



Ray married Mary (Asche) Brogmus on June 25, 1963, in Canton,

N.D.



He was a police officer in Eagle Grove in 1965 and deputy sheriff

in Wright County in 1967 and also worked part time for the Belmond

Police Department.



In 1968, he moved to Clear Lake and drove semi for Ruan until

his retirement in 1977.



He was justice of the peace in Clear Lake from 1976-1977.



Ray enjoyed telling jokes, fishing and doing wood working.



He was a life member of the Clear Lake VFW.



Ray is survived by his wife, Mary Henningsen, of Clear Lake;

one daughter, Terri Spencer and her husband, Michael, of Fort

Dodge; and two grandchildren, Cynthia Spencer of Fort Dodge,

and Michael Spencer Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

James E. Heitland, 65, of 114 Sixth St. N.W., died Wednesday

(July 10, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First

Baptist Church, 125 E. State St.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to

services at the church.

(July 2, 1966) at home.



A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday,

July 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St.



The body was cremated. There will be no visitation.

John S. Twedt, 90, of Clarion, died Tuesday (July 9, 1996)

at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United

Church of Christ Congregational, with the Rev. Curt Miner officiating.



Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with graveside military

honors by the Clarion American Legion and VFW.



Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today with the family present

from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.



John S. Twedt was born Sept. 29, 1905, in Skjol, near Haugesend,

Norway.



Survivors include his wife, Violet Twedt of Clarion.



He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and

four sisters.

Russel E. Wood, 67, of Rockford, died Wednesday (July 10, 1996)

at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran

Church, south of Osage, with the Rev. Norman E. Betke officiating.



Burial will be at 3:45 p.m. Friday at Sunnyside Memory Gardens,

Charles City.



Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral

Home, Osage, and one hour before services at the church on Friday.



Russel E. Wood was born May 19, 1929, at Bassett.



Survivors include his wife, Avis, of Rockford; two daughters,

Rose Hejna and Lesa Eckert, both of Garner; four sons, Bruce

Wood of Rockford; Eugene Wood of Mason City; John Wood and Arlyn

Wood, both of Rudd; three sisters, Anne Mae Nauman of Floyd;

Doris Anderson of Fertile, and Marie Hennick of Charles City;

two brothers, Owen Wood of Cedar Falls, and Leland Wood, Hanlontown;

and 17 grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and

an infant sister.

Myron Busch, 65, of Ledyard, died Tuesday (July 9, 1996) at

the Fairmont, Minn., Community Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bethany

Evangelical and Reformed Church at Ledyard, with the Rev. Larry

Doughan officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Home Cemetery,

Ledyard.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Fireside

Room at the church.



The Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, is in

charge of arrangements.



Myron was born Jan. 31, 1931, at Ledyard.



Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of Ledyard; one son, Steven

Busch of Swea City; three daughters, Jacklyn Beemer of Fairmont,

Minn.; LuAnn Larson of Albert Lea, Minn,. and Tammy Johnson of

Swea City; six grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin ``Bud''

Busch and LeRoy Busch, both of Ledyard, and Leo Busch of Salt

Lake City, Utah; and two sisters, Phyllis Richardson of Ledyard

and Wilma McPherson of Tahoe City, Calif.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter,

one brother and one sister.

Christine Smallfoot, 44, of Red Oak, formerly of Mason City,

died Monday (July 8, 1996) at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Neb.



Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Zion United

Church of Christ, Garner, with the Rev. Darrell Weber and the

Rev. Sterling W. ``Mac'' McHarg officiating. Burial will be in

the Concord Township Cemetery, Garner.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo

Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.



Christine Eve Smallfoot, the daughter of Harold Smallfoot and

Marjorie (Greiman) Finn was born Nov. 17, 1951, at Forest City.



She attended school at Garner and graduated from Garner-Hayfield

High School in 1970.



She then attended the University of Iowa where she graduated

with a B.S. degree in 1974 and continued her education at New

York University where she graduated with a degree in physical

therapy.



In 1975, she moved to California where she worked as a physical

therapist while attending Santa Clara University where she received

her Juris Doctorate of Law Degree in 1984.



In 1985, she married Ray Kelley at Santa Clara.



They moved to Mason City in 1986, where Chris continued to work

as a physical therapist at North Iowa Mercy Health Center. She

divorced in 1990.



In September of 1995, she moved her family to Red Oak where

she worked at C.M.S. Therapies in the Red Oak area.



Chris enjoyed spending time with her children, whom she regularly

took swimming, fishing and to the Omaha Zoo, where they were

members.



She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of

Christ, YMCA, both of Red Oak, and various professional organizations.



She is survived by her children, Emma, age 10; Nathan, age 8,

and Grace Kelley, age 6, all at home; her mother, Marj Finn of

Garner; father, Harold Smallfoot and his wife, Ocie, of Clear

Lake; brothers and sisters, Landry Smallfoot and his wife, Rebecca,

of Spokane, Wash.; Holly Rasmussen of Garner; Lambert Smallfoot

and his special friend, Leslie Way, both of Des Moines; Dawn

Smallfoot of Garner, and Gail Kuhlman and her husband, Kevin,

of Garner; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Kathryn Kenyon and her

husband, Richard of Myersville, Md.; Jeanne Bonde and her husband,

Larry, of Camanche; Thomas Finn and his wife, Jenny, of Jacksonville,

Fla.; Barbara Reidel and her husband, David, of Rowan; Colleen

Osborne and her husband, Allen, of Galt; John Finn and his wife,

Cory, of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Daniel Finn and his wife, Sara,

of Boone; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.



She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clair Finn, on

Oct. 23, 1994.

Alice V. Overturf

Alice V. Overturf, 86, of Madeline Villa, Marysville, Wash.,

formerly of Mason City, died Monday (July 8, 1996) at the Madeline

Villa Health Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Major

Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev.

Ron Stein of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be

in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.



The casket will be closed. There will be no visitation.



Memorials may be given to the Alice V. Overturf Memorial Fund.



Alice V. Overturf was born Oct. 30, 1909, in Belle Plaine, Iowa,

a daughter of Albert and Grace (Thorne) Church.



As a small child, Alice moved to Mason City. She attended and

graduated from Mason City High School.



Alice married Homer Overturf on April 6, 1930, at the Little

Brown Church in Nashua.



Alice worked as a secretary for Stanbery and Haynes (attorneys)

for many years.



The Overturfs were long-time Mason City residents.



Alice moved to Washington state in 1986 following her husband's

death.



She was a member of First Baptist Church, Daughters of the American

Revolution and the Sewing Club.



Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Guetlin and her husband,

Ernest, of Everett, Wash.; son, James A. Overturf and his wife,

Lila, of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;

two sisters, Jessie Huey of Clear Lake and Elizabeth (Betty)

Block and her husband, Robert, of Cedar Rapids; one brother,

Robert E. Church of Mason City; and one daughter-in-law, Margaret

Overturf of Everett, Wash.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer, in

1986; one son, Jerald; two brothers, Albert and Nathan Church;

and three sisters, Esther Paone, Lael D. Miller and Marion Tutton.

James E. Heitland was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Buffalo Center,

a son of Edward and Marian (Smith) Heitland.



He attended and graduated from Buffalo Center High School, attended

Waldorf College in Forest City and graduated from Iowa State

Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa)  with

a double masters in secondary guidance and elementary guidance.



He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army during

the Korean conflict.



James married Marilyn J. Halvorson on June 4, 1951, in Forest

City. The Heitlands were long-time residents of Anamosa.



James worked as a guidance counselor and coach in several school

systems, including Audubon, Mason City from 1966-68, Anamosa

for 12 years, Rockwell-Swaledale and Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock.



He lived in Rudd for eight years before moving to Mason City

in March of 1995.



James enjoyed all types of sports, coaching and spending time

with his family.



He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church, having

served as moderator of the congregation.



Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Engelbart of Anamosa; son,

John Heitland and wife, Marybeth, of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren,

Jacob Heitland and Tyler and Bryce Engelbart; brothers, Paul

Heitland and his wife, Jean, of Lake Mills, and David Heitland

of Lake Mills; sisters, Shirley Higbee and her husband, Jerry,

of Lake Mills and Donna Gilbertson and her husband, Al, of Forest

City; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Marilyn,

in March of 1995.

Max A. Marcus, 63, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday (July 10,

1996) at  North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.



A scripture and prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday

at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear

Lake, with the Rev. Daird Korth of  Redeemer Lutheran Church

of Ventura  officiating.



Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Pleasant

Grove Cemetery, Jemison, Ala.



The Martin Funeral Home in Clanton, Ala., will be in charge

of arrangements in Alabama.



Max A. Marcus was born on Aug. 11, 1932, in Thorsby, Ala., the

son of Clarence and Eldridge (Wright) Marcus.



He was united in marriage to Janette (Jan) Pralle on June 19,

1976, in Roselle, Ill.



For 25 years, he was a surveyor engineer consultant in the Chicago

area, moving to Clear Lake in 1990.



He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura.



Survivors include his wife, Jan Marcus of Clear Lake; two daughters,

Kathy Bartruff and her husband, Dane, of Cerulean, Ky., and Audrey

Schumacher and her husband, Randy, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; three

sons, Don Marcus, Stan Marcus Sr., and his wife, Kelly, and John

Scott Marcus, all of Hopkinsville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Michael

Graddy and Stan Marcus Jr., both of Hospkinsville, Ky., and Angela

and Leslie Barthow, both of Cerulean, Ky., as well as other relatives

and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Patricia J. Shimek

CHARLES CITY



A funeral Mass for Patricia J. Shimek, 61, of 602 11th St.,

Charles City, formerly of Nashua, will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene  with Monsignor

Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery

in Greene.



Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Reid's

Funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. scriptural

wake service followed by a rosary service.



Patricia Jean Popes was born March 7, 1935, at Greene, Butler

County, Iowa, a daughter of Carl Joseph and Laura (Merfeld) Popes,

and died Thursday (July 11, 1996) at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua

Guest Home, Charles City, of a respiratory disorder.



She received her education at the Sacred Heart Academy in Greene

and later in rural schools near Nashua and Charles City.



She graduated from the Nashua High School in 1953.



She then was employed at the New Hampton Hospital.



On June 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to Oliver Dybevik

at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Nashua.



They made their home in New Hampton where she continued working

at the hospital until the birth of her daughter, Deana.



In 1960, the family moved to Mount Auburn, where they remained

until 1964 when they located on a farm near Grundy Center.



The marriage ended in 1971. During this time, she became employed

by Grundy County as a homemaker health aide and later for Chickasaw

County in that same field.



On Dec. 2, 1972, she was married to Carl Shimek in Grundy Center.

They remained in Grundy Center until 1974 when they moved to

Fredricksburg. That marriage ended in 1993. Due to her failing

health, she was forced to retire in 1991 and later made her home

in Nashua before moving to Charles City.



Patty will be remembered as one who had a very deep faith and

one whose life centered around her family. She unselfishly gave

of herself to those members of her family who needed her; and

through her work, she loved helping the elderly.



Her interests included playing cards, fishing, crocheting, baking

pies and cookies.



Living family members include her two daughters, Doris Reese

of Charles City and Delores and her husband, Randy Grimm, of

New Hampton; five grandchildren, Kandi Westphal of Des Moines,

and Michael Dybevik, Christopher Dybevik, Aaron Grimm and Blane

Grimm, all of New Hampton; her mother, Laura Popes of Greene;

three sisters, Mrs. James (Mary) Mahoney and Mrs. Charles (Rita)

Mahoney, both of Nashua, and Sister Carla Popes of Dubuque; two

brothers; Howard of Grundy Center and Glen of West Long Branch,

N.J.



She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deana Dybevik on

July 10, 1976; and her father, Carl Popes on May 3, 1988.



Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials

to the Patricia J. Shimek Memorial Fund in care of the family.

John Larson, 69, of Rake, died Wednesday (July 10, 1996) in

a car accident.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at  Zion Lutheran

Church, Rake, with the Rev. Jennifer Edinger officiating. Burial

will be in West Cemetery, Rake, with full military rites by the

Rake American Legion Post.



Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the

church.

John J. Larson was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Rake.



Survivors include his son, John J. ``Jack'' Larson of Ames;

his sister, Marilyn Beck, of Kiester, Minn.; and several nieces

and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Joyce.

Malmin ``Molly'' B. Anderson, 86, of 24910  480th St., died

Lutheran Church, Emmons, Minn., with the Rev. Dennis Johnson

officiating.  Burial will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery,

Lake Mills.

Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.



Malmin B. Anderson was born Jan. 14, 1910, near Lake Mills.



Survivors include two brothers, William O. of Northwood and

Waldemar F. of Albert Lea, Minn.; and one sister, Elnora Willard

of Northwood.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers

and one sister.

Heather Edwards, 21, of Anthon, died Wednesday (July 3, 1996)

in St. Louis, Mo.



Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8,

at the Anthon Community Center, Anthon, with the Rev. Karen Handke

officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemtery, Cherokee.



Armstrong Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.



Heather Edwards was born Dec. 15, 1974, in Davenport, the daughter

of Dennis and Wendy (King) Edwards.



She lived in Anthon with her parents and graduated from Anthon-Oto

High School in 1993, where she was a member of the Black and

Gold Club and National Honorary Society.



Memorials may be sent to Dennis and Wendy Edwards, Box 475,

Anthon, Iowa 51004.



Survivors include her parents, Dennis and Wendy (King) Edwards

of Anthon; two brothers, Lance and his wife, Heidi, of Sioux

Falls, S.D., and Cory of Anthon; paternal grandfather, Hubert

Oral Edwards of Cherokee; a great-grandmother, Foracie Gregg

of Cherokee; aunts and uncles, Larry and Sondra (King) Welsh

of Washburn, Wis., Raleigh and Carolyn King of Mason City, and

Shirley Bilstad of Mason City; and also many other aunts, uncles,

cousins and many friends from the Anthon area, Mason City; Omaha,

Neb.; and St. Louis, Mo.



Heather was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents,

Stanley King and Lola and Gerald Rasmussen and paternal grandmother,

Lottie Edwards.

Warren Henry Duesenberg

MESA, Ariz.



Warren Henry Duesenberg, 87, died Thursday (July 4, 1996) at

home in Mesa, following a brief illness.



Warren was born in Garner, Iowa, in 1908.



He attended Iowa State College where he was a member of Sigma

Chi fraternity, a track team member and a three-year letterman

in football.



He married Thelma Bump in 1934, and they made their home in

Clear Lake, Iowa, for many years.



In 1942-43, Warren aided the World War II effort as head of

one division of the E.M. Duesenberg Road Construction Company,

building the Alaskan Highway, and he later served as lieutenant

in the United States Navy.



After the war, Warren returned to road construction as vice

president of E.M. Duesenberg Inc., constructing state and interstate

highways in Iowa and surrounding areas.



Warren and Thelma retired in 1968 to Mesa and became ``pioneers''

at Leisure World in 1974, spending winters in Mesa and summers

at Pine Top and Show Low. At Leisure World, Warren enjoyed pool,

bridge, golf and lapidary work.



Warren is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma (Bump) Duesenberg;

a son, Donald Duesenberg of Mesa; a daughter, Diane (Duesenberg)

Long of Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Marie Duesenberg of Kalamazoo,

Mich.; and five grandchildren, Darcy Duesenberg, Troy Duesenberg,

Nancy (Long) Spivey, Brian Long and Cindy Long.

Pfc. Corey C. Pittman, 18, of Clarion, died Thursday (July

4, 1996) at Tijuana, Mexico.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Clarion

Church of Christ, with Mark Young officiating.



Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fort Snelling

National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Willim

Funeral Home, Clarion.



Survivors include his mother, Kim Pittman of Clarion; father,

Ron Pittman,  Roseville, Minn.; grandparents, Lyle Pittman of

Sheridan, Wyo.; Orville and Laura Servin of Bloomington, Minn.;

one sister, Jamie Pittman of Clarion; and one brother, Mark Pittman

of Clarion.

Alma Marie Burmester, 96, of Hampton, died Friday (July 12,

1996) at the Hampton Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity

Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Martin Hoesch officiating. Burial

will be in Hampton Cemetery.



Alma was born Aug. 29, 1899, in Hamilton Township, Franklin

County.



Survivors include three daughters, Donna Mae Burmester of Hampton,

Shirley A. Whitmore of Hampton, and Marilyn Seen of Glen Burnie,

Md.; one brother, William Borcherding, New Orleans, La.;  one

sister, Gertrude Borcherding of Hampton; seven grandchildren;

and eight great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven

brothers.

Sandra Sue Williams was born Nov. 27, 1961, in Omaha, Neb.

sons, Bobby and Jonathan Williams of Kensett; her mother, Betty

Dufrasne of Leslie, Ark.; four brothers, Timothy Shuffler of

Lodi, Calif.; Sfc. Ricky Shuffler of Fort Riley, Kan.; Leonard

Shuffler of Shenandoah,  and David Shuffler of Essex; and one

sister, Laura Gutierrez of Mason City.



She was preceded in death by her father.

Willis Donald Billings, 82, of 302 Sixth St. N.W., Nora Springs,

died Thursday (July 11, 1996) at his home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nora Springs

Christian Church, 102 N. Hawkeye Ave., with the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur

officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Sheckler

Colonial Chapel, 114 No. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, and one

hour prior to services at the church on Monday.



Willis D. Billings was born Aug. 3, 1913, in Nora Springs, son

of George Willis and Ethel Mae (Lenhart) Billings.



Willis married Marjorie Krueger on Jan. 8, 1935, in Mason City.



Willis lived all of his life in Nora Springs. He worked for

P.L. Hartwell for 20 years as a truck driver and then worked

28 years for Armour until retiring in 1976.



He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan.



He loved spending time with his family.



Willis was a member of Nora Springs Christian Church.



Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Billings of Nora Springs;

nine children, Joan Bennett and her husband, Horace, of Pearson,

Ga.; Janet Gordon and her husband, Duane, of Camphill, Pa.; Jean

Eiland and her husband, John, of Hawthorne, Fla.; Ronald Billings

and his wife, Dawn, of Nora Springs; Danny Billings and his wife,

Jane, of Mason City; Linda Billings and fiancee, Tom Green, of

Britt; Barbara Johanns and her husband, Tom, of Mason City; Larry

Billings and his wife, Cyndi, of New Haven, and Kim Billings

and his wife, Tami, of Nora Springs; one sister, Ruth Clapp of

Charles City; 29 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisterS, Coila

Reams, Alta Bowen and Della Cooling; one brother, Ilo Billings;

and one daughter, Judith Diane Billings.

Pearl (Sprunk) Gossman was born July 16, 1916, in Columbus,

Neb.



She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Voortman and her

husband, Clarence, of Buffalo Center, and Karen Rodberg and her

husband, Terry, of Joice; two sons, Kenneth Gossman of Waseca,

Minn., and Harvey Gossman and his wife, Judy, of Massena; 13

grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; a brother and

a sister.

Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

in Greene where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

There will be a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m.  Visitation

will continue at the church one hour before services on Monday.

in memory of June J. Brunner.



June Jeanette Gantenbein was born June 6, 1928 near Maynard

in Fayette County, a daughter of John and Alma (May) Gantenbein.



She received her education and graduated from the Maynard Consolidated

High School in 1945.  She attended the cosmetology college in

Waterloo and worked as a beauty operator in Fayette and Later

in Charles City. 



On March 12, 1950 she was united in marriage to Merlyn Doyle

Brunner at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maynard.

Following their marriage, Merlyn and June moved onto their present

farm East of Marble Rock where to this union was born two sons.



June raised her children and cared for the needs of her family

as a devoted mother and housewife.  She enjoyed baking cookies

for the grandchildren and mending their clothes if need be.

Throughout the years she followed and attended the athletic activities

of her children and grandchildren.



She was baptized on June 24, 1928 and confirmed August 1, 1943

at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maynard.  She became

a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marble Rock, and later

a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene.



Survivors include her husband Merlyn of Marble Rock; two sons,

Tim of Marble Rock and Tom and his wife Gayle of Charles City;

three grandchildren Richie, Greg and Amy of Charles City; her

mother, Alma Gantenbein of Fayette; and her sister Peggy and

her husband Bob Hennager of Maynard.



She was preceded in death by her father John Gantenbein in 1969.

Lottie Lucille Hagen was born on May 30, 1902, in West Fork

Township, in Franklin County, the daughter of James and Lillian

(Woodley) Van Riper.  She attended and received her education

in the Hanlontown School System.  After completing her formal

education she was a telephone operator in Hanlontown before moving

to Manly in 1926.  She  was united in marriage to Oliver Hagen

on Oct. 27, 1920, at the Lutheran Church in Northwood.  He preceded

her in death on June 2, 1959.  After they moved to Manly in 1926,

she began working in the Nursing Profession helping Dr. G.S.

Westley and Dr. S.S. Westley in Manly, and was proud of the fact

that she helped deliver over 100 babies in her life time.  The

family returned to Hanlontown in 1958, where she was once again

the telephone operator in Hanlontown until her retirement in

1968, when she moved to Manly.  She had been a resident of the

Manly Care Center since July 1, 1994.



She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking, plants, playing

500 cards, and loved to entertain family and friends, but her

great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.  She

will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile.



She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the church circle,

life time member of the Edward Tosel American Legion Ladies Auxiliary

#110, and the Disabled American Veteran Ladies Auxiliary, all

Bernard LeRoy Davenport

Bernard LeRoy Davenport, 87, of Belmond, died Sunday (July

14, 1996) at the Belmond Health Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the

United Church of Christ Congregational, in Belmond, with the

Rev. William Mulford officiating.  Burial will be in the Belmond

Cemetery.



Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Tenold Funeral

Home in Belmond.



Bernard LeRoy Davenport, the son of Frank and Cora (Harvey)

Davenport, was born on Sunday, May 16, 1909, in Belmond.



He graduated from Belmond High School in 1927, where he was

a member of the Latin Club and track team.  Bernard lived most

of his life on the Davenport family farm west of Belmond which

he owned following the death of his mother.  The farm was designated

a Century Farm in 1993.



Bernard was united in marriage to Marlyce L. Harson on Jan.

8, 1934, in Mason City.  Marlyce preceded him in death on Dec.

27, 1981.



In addition to farming most of his life, he worked at Central

Soya and for various construction contractors.  He liked to spend

his leisure time fishing, playing cards, checkers and cribbage.

Reading was a lifelong joy for Bernard and while in the Care

Center, books were his constant companions.



Bernard delighted in seeing his children, grandchildren and

great-grandchildren.



Bernard was a member of the Belmond United Church of Christ

Congregational, and a 49-year member of the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah

Lodge.



He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Watermiller

of Belmond, Mrs. Duan (Linda) Thompson of Belmond, Corrine Waller

of Belmond, and Mrs. Tom (Lorraine) Robeson of Apple Valley,

Minn.; grandchildren, Bob, Jim and Randy Watermiller, Rindee

Watermiller Erdmann, Jeff and Jenifer Waller, Dick, Diane and

Gerald Thompson, Linette Thompson Myland, Dan Robeson, Dawn Robeson

Havey and Nicole Robeson; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister,

Bernice Bohning of Belmond.



He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlyce; a brother,

Ammon; a sister, Beatrice Bohning; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Ethel Doraline Alexander was born March 26, 1911, in Muskogee,

Okla., a daughter of Kay L. and Maude Ethel (Arnold) Alexander,

and died Sunday (July 12, 1996) at the Good Shepherd Nursing

Home in Mason City.



She received her education in the Olkmulgee, Oklahoma Public

Schools.  She was united in marriage to Marvin Harvey Johnson

in 1928 in Olkmulgee where they made their home following their

marriage.  To this union was born one daughter, Darla Dean Johnson,

who died in infancy.  Doraline was employed at a jewelry store

in Olkmulgee during World War II while her husband was in service.



In 1950 they moved to Kansas City where he was employed by Phillips

Oil Company where they remained until their retirement and in

1971 moved to Lakewood, Calif.  Marvin died Oct. 13, 1974, after

46 years of marriage.  Doraline remained in Lakewood until moving

to Mason City in May, 1991.



She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lakewood,

Calif., where she taught Sunday School for several years.  She

was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed fixing up her home.  She

also wrote poetry as a pasttime.



Living family members include her sister, Rachel Frances Hamilton,

of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; her brother, Claude Dexter and his

wife, Mary Alexander, of Greene; and several nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter; parents;

half brother, William J. Wilson; and one brother-in-law, John

Howard Hamilton.



Doraline is ``Forever with the Lord''.
