Ralph Chodur, 72, died Friday (July 19, 1996) at North Iowa
Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First
Baptist Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Steven Cox and the
Rev. George Kalb officiating. Burial will be in First Baptist
Cemetery, Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen
Lund Funeral Home, Forest City.
Ralph Andrew Chodur was born in Mt. Valley Township, Winnebago
County, on Nov. 26, 1923, the son of Andrew and Alice (Hanson)
Chodur. He received his education in the Crystal Lake area and
was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Ralph
was a veteran of World War II, serving in an artillery unit in
the European Theater. On Dec. 17, 1944, he was married to Verylene
Borg in Jacksonville, Fla. After the war, the couple returned
to the North Iowa area and farmed in the areas around Forest
City, Northwood, Joice and Lake Mills. Although Ralph loved
farming, he also worked and retired from Wilson and Company in
Albert Lea, Minn., after 26 years.
An empathetic and generous man, Ralph helped anyone who needed
assistance. He enjoyed attending auctions, visiting with people,
and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also kept
busy doing custom baling and loved gardening. He was an avid
fisherman and shared wood chopping chores with the family. He
died at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City on July
19, 1996 from complications due to cancer. He was 72 years of
age.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Verylene Chodur of Lake Mills;
five daughters and their husbands, Ralphene and David Stokke
of Clear Lake, Deanna and John Hill of Forest City, Jeanne and
Steve Lahey of Lake Mills, Marilyn and Mark Kaiser of Forest
City and Judy and Les Leibrand of Forest City; two sons, Steve
Chodur and his wife, Carolyn, of Lake Mills, and Gary Chodur
and his wife, Deb, of Lake Mills. Also, seven sisters, Odella
Broome of Des Moines, Betty Kaduce of Clear Lake, Mildred Bauer
of Wesley, Irene King of Seattle, Wash., Eileen Bailey of Falls
Church, Va., Delores Norcross of Manly and Geraldine Peterson
of Person, Ariz.; two brothers, Kenneth and Donald, both of Kensett;
18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; twin sisters who
died in infancy; a sister, Melinda; and a brother, James.

of Corwith.

Daniel Lee Tobin was born June 20, 1978 at Osage.

Tobin of Ames; maternal grandmother, Bev Fisher of Nashua; paternal
grandparents, Terry and Virginia Tobin of Charles City; paternal

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather.

William R. ``Bill'' Rose Sr.
COMANCHE, OKLA.
Comanche, Okla. resident, William Rose Sr., 66, formerly of
Plymouth, Iowa, died June 30, 1996 in a Lawton hospital after
a short illness. Memorial services were held on July 5 in Comanche.
Mr. Rose was born on Aug. 28, 1929 in Plymouth to Robert William
Rose and Genevieve (Hagen) Rose. He married Joleen Hulse on
Nov. 10, 1970 in Gaffney, S.C.
Bill moved to Comanche 21 years ago. He retired from his job
as a heavy equipment operator for Stephen County, and was a veteran
serving in the Air Force. He was a member of the Duncan Moose
Lodge and was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife, Joleen; a son, Billy Rose Jr. of
Comanche; a step-son, Bryan Fielding of Duncan, Okla.; step-daughters,
Kenya Nail of Duncan, Okla., and Karla Uhles of Sulphur, Okla.;
a brother, Walter Rose of Mason City; and five sisters, Genevieve
Helm of Houston, Texas, Virginia Carrott of Clear Lake, Elsie
Hauser of Comanche, Susan Dusold of Belmond, and Cindy Simmer
of Mason City. He had eight grandchildren and numerous nieces,
nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He is also survived
by an aunt, Frances Dial of Garner.

Lillian A. Sanberg, 85, of 108 Eighth St. S.W., died Saturday
(July 20, 1996) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Major-Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Richard
D. Scheerer of First Congregational United Church of Christ,
officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and will continue
until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Lillian A. Sanberg Memorial
Fund.
Lillian Astrid Sanberg was born Sept. 20, 1910, the eldest of
three daughters born to Isaac N. and Martina (Elm) Sanberg.
Lillian graduated from Mason City High School in 1928 and attended
the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching
certificate. After graduation she worked at the telephone office
before going to Chicago where she became a governess to two boys.
She returned to Mason City and became a third-grade teacher
in the Osage school system. She taught until she retired and
then returned to Mason City.
Survivors include one sister, Maxine Sanberg of Mason City;
and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Florence
in September, 1995.

Mildred Hazel Aske Lutz was born Aug. 13, 1911 in Thompson.
Survivors include five children, Harlan Lutz of Waterloo, Beverly
Schmith of Hampton, Jean Bruening of Waucoma, David Lutz of Charles
City, and Marie Koehler of Nashua; one sister, Leola Espinosa
of Pequot Lakes, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers,
one sister, and one grandson.

Melba Eleanor Hackbart was born on May 28, 1916 in Northwood,
the daughter of Rasmus and Helen (Walswick) Flatness. She attended
and received her education in the Northwood school system. She
was united in marriage to Burton Franz Davis on June 6, 1932
in Albert Lea, Minn. He preceded her in death in 1969. In 1968
she started working as a cook for the Northwood-Kensett East
Elementary School until her retirement in 1985. She was united
in marriage to Arnold Hackbart on July 14, 1979 in Manly. He
preceded her in death in 1993.
She enjoyed knitting, reading, baking and dancing.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Martha Circle, American
Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Our Buddies VFW Post #6779 Ladies Auxiliary,
all in Northwood.
She is survived by two daughters, Roberta Peterson and her husband,
Donald, of Rosemont, Minn., and Lynda Davis of Minneapolis, Minn.;
one son, Dennis Davis and his wife, Carolyn, of Kensett; two
step-daughters, Karen Platt and her husband, Roy, of Bettendorf,
and Nancy Limbaugh of St. Charles, Mo.; one step-son, Allen Hackbart
of Tennessee; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Knudtson of Minneapolis,
Minn., and Hazel Kuhlmann and her husband, Gaylord, of Northwood;
a sister-in-law, Margaret Flatness of Northwood; as well as many
nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Burton
Davis and Arnold Hackbart; son, Richard Irving Davis; and two
brothers, Irving and Norman Flatness.
Pallbearers will be her five grandchildren, Scott Peterson,
Dana Peterson, Kevin Peterson, Richard Davis, and Daniel Davis,
and her great-grandson, Richie Davis.

James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with a private inurnment
service following.
Mearl Schriver was born Jan. 27, 1917 to Walter and Mary Elizabeth
(Crawford) Schriver. Mearl joined the Civilian Conservation
Corp. in 1935 to 1936. He served in the United States Army from
1940-1945 in the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion during his European
tour. While in France, Mearl was wounded in action and received
the purple heart. In 1947, after his return from the service,
he was joined in marriage to Wilma Shook. That same year he
joined the Mason City Police Department where he was a patrolman
until his retirement in 1980. Since his retirement, he has spent
many hours with his family going out for drives or out to eat.
Mearl was a member of the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police
and Peace Officers, the Iowa State Police Association, and a
lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 733.
Mearl is survived by his wife, Wilma; a son, Gary and his wife,
Elaine Schriver, of Mason City; a daughter, Mrs. James (Gail)
Brenengen of Appleton, Wis.; four grandchildren, Alan and Phil
Schriver of Mason City, and Jill and Chad Brenengen of Appleton,
Wis.; one sister, Mrs. Edward (Ivanelle) Linch of Pekin, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris Taylor;
and three brothers, Willard, Gilbert and Chester.

Francis F. Foell, 83, of 2756 Spruce Ave., died Sunday (July
21, 1996) in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Lonnie Wilson officiating. Burial will
be in Rockwell Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grarup Funeral
Home, Sheffield. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. at
the funeral home.
Francis F. Foell was born Jan. 2, 1913 on a farm in rural Sheffield,
the son of Ferdinand Foell and Jonny Mullen. He attended the
rural Sheffield school system.
He was a member of the Westfork Methodist Church and was baptized
at the age of nine. At the age of 16 he started farming with
his mother and brothers on the home farm. On Feb. 3, 1937 he
was united in marriage to Delphia Mullen in Mason City. They
then moved to the home farm in Sheffield until 1943. At that
time they moved to their present home in rural Rockwell.
He loved little children and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, and of late, was active
in pool.
He attended First Baptist Church in Rockwell until failing health
would not allow it.
He went to be with the Lord on July 21, 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Delphia Foell of Rockwell; two daughters,
Marlys Petersen of Mason City, and Deloris Peter (Larry) of Bevier,
Mo.; one son, Mervin Foell of Sheffield; one sister, Genevieve
Koester of Anamosa; 12 grandchildren, Crystal and Jerry Lovingier,
and Marcia and Floyd Teter, all of Bevier, Mo., Roger and Lori
Peter of Winchester, Va., Sally Lee Wright of Des Moines, Nancy
Petersen of Ankeny, Kathy Petersen, Renee Petersen, and Colleen
and Dr. Jack Brady, all of Des Moines, Mike Petersen of Mason
City, Melissa and Craig McLaughlin of Hampton, and Sara Foell
and Jeremy Foell, both of Sheffield; 16 great-grandchildren,
Wesley Lovingier, Miranda Lovingier, Travis Lovingier, Jacob
Teter, Valerie Teter, Joel Teter, and Wade Teter, all of Bevier,

Cecil A. Roberts was born July 13, 1903 at Pocahontas, daughter
of Edward and Grace (Arledge) Hutchinson.
She graduated from Garner High School in 1921.
Cecil was married to Ross E. Utt on Nov. 17, 1925.
Later after Ross' death in 1943, she married Merle S. Roberts
on May 29, 1947 at Garner.
Cecil resided in Garner and Nora Springs for many years, where
she was a school teacher.
She was very active in the United Methodist Church, and was
a member of the United Methodist Women, and the American Legion
auxiliary.
She was a 50 year member of both the Rebekah and Royal Neighbor
Lodges, and also the State President of the Women's Christian
Temperence Union of Iowa from 1965 to 1971.
She had resided in Colorado Springs since 1990.
Survivors included two sons, James E. Utt and Ross J. Utt, both
of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one stepson, Dale Roberts of Nampa,
Idaho; one sister, Charlotte Willsher of Nora Springs; 10 grandchildren;
12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands;
two brothers; and one grandchild.

County, Iowa.

Brua of Maryville, Tenn.; one daughter, Dorothy Moen of Northwood;
four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson;
one brother, Lawrence Stene of Aitkin, Minn.; and one sister,
Evelyn Bjelland of Lake Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers
and four sisters.

Francis F. Foell, 83, of 2756 Spruce Ave., died Sunday (July
21, 1996) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Lonnie Wilson officiating. Burial will
be in Rockwell Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral
Home, Sheffield. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. at
the funeral home.
Francis F. Foell was born Jan. 2, 1913, on a farm in rural Sheffield,
the son of Ferdinand Foell and Jenny Burgess. He attended the
rural Sheffield school system.
He was a member of the Westfork Methodist Church and was baptized
at the age of 9. At the age of 16 he started farming with his
mother and brothers on the home farm.
On Feb. 3, 1937, he was united in marriage to Delphia Mullen
in Mason City. They then moved to the home farm in Sheffield
until 1943. At that time they moved to their present home in
rural Rockwell.
He loved little children and all his grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, and of late, was active
in pool.
He attended First Baptist Church in Rockwell until failing health
would not allow it.
He went to be with the Lord on July 21, 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Delphia Foell of Rockwell; two daughters,
Marlys Petersen of Mason City, and Delores Peter, and her husband,
Larry, of Bevier, Mo.; one son, Mervin Foell and his wife, Michelle,
of Sheffield; one sister, Genevieve Koester of Anamosa; 12 grandchildren,
Crystal and Jerry Lovingier, and Marcia and Floyd Teter, all
of Bevier, Mo., Roger and Lori Peter of Winchester, Va.; Sally
Lee Wright of Des Moines; Nancy Petersen of Ankeny; Kathy Petersen,
Renee Petersen, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Colleen and Dr. Jack
Brady, all of Des Moines; Mike Petersen of Mason City; Melissa
and Craig McLaughlin of Hampton, and Sara Foell and Jeremy Foell,
both of Sheffield; 16 great-grandchildren, Wesley Lovingier,
Miranda Lovingier, Travis Lovingier, Jacob Teter, Valerie Teter,

Eugene ``Nick'' Nicholson, the son of Harold and Cleo (Sefton)
Nicholson was born at Clarion on Oct. 23, 1935.
He attended school at Lincoln Center, Dows, and graduated from
Belmond High School in 1955.
He worked at several jobs as a truck driver, including Westaby's
in Alexander, and the past 18 years for Farmers Grain in Belmond.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Nelson on Nov. 9, 1973,
at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, and they made their
home in Belmond.
Nick enjoyed spending time with his stepchildren and stepgrandchildren,
working on cars and playing bingo.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Nicholson of Belmond; his mother,
Cleo Nicholson of Belmond; stepchildren, Brett Lobdell and his
wife, Sonja of Belmond; Kurt Lobdell of Belmond; Blake Lobdell
and his wife, Jane, of Clear Lake; Tracy Lobdell of Marshalltown;
Kimberly Miller and her husband, Brad, of Albia; seven stepgrandchildren;
and one stepgreat-grandson; aunts, Thelma and Irene Sefton of
Dows.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Nicholson, and
one brother, Harry James Nicholson.

Esther Ann Enabnit, 89, of 911 Eighth St. N.E., Belmond, died

Meester of First Reformed Church, Meservey, and the Rev. Melvin

Funeral Home, Meservey.
Mrs. LuVerne (Esther Anna Backhaus) Enabnit was born in Worth
County, Manly, Iowa, on Oct. 20, 1906, the daughter of Henry
and Ida (Schlake) Backhaus.
Sacrament of Holy Baptism was Dec. 26, 1906, and she was confirmed
and received into the membership of St. Paul's Evangelical Church,
Manly, on April 1, 1923, by the Rev. R.A. Mensendick.
She attended rural schools and graduated from Manly High School
on June 3, 1926. She attended Iowa State College, Ames, for two
years. She also attended Hamilton College of Commerce, Mason
City.
On Feb. 28, 1943, she moved with her parents from the farm to
Clear Lake, where they purchased a home and she was employed
at the Clear Lake Bakery.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 16, 1953, to LuVerne Enabnit
of Meservey, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, by the Rev.
Glenn Utterbach.
She transferred her membership to the Evangelical Church, Meservey.
They made their home on a farm northwest of Meservey until retiring
in February of 1968, when they purchased a home and moved to
Belmond.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Marlys and her husband,
Robert Thedinger, of St. Joseph, Mo.; and five stepgrandchildren,
Robert and Patricia Thedinger of Kansas City, Mo.; Dr. Bradley
and Roys Thedinger, of Kansas City, Mo.; Dr. Britt and Kelly
Thedinger of Omaha, Neb.; Bartlett and Amy Thedinger of St. Joseph,
Mo., and Stephanie and Joseph Fitzgerald of Boston, Mass.; 13
stepgreat-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LuVerne; her parents;
and her brother.

The daughter of Clarence C. and Anna T. West McVay, she was
born Feb. 28, 1919, in Oskaloosa.
She was raised in Des Moines and was a 1936 graduate of Roosevelt
High School in Des Moines.
After her education, she worked for the A & P Company in Des
Moines for several years.
She was married to John A. Ross on May 5, 1945, in Kansas City,
Mo.
The couple made their home in Des Moines, Oskaloosa and Oelwein
before moving to Grinnell in 1965.
She was an owner/operator of the 63-80 Oil Company and Malzuma
Restaurant near Malcom.
She retired to Sun City, Ariz., in 1982 and moved to Altoona
on July 1, 1996.
She was a member and former treasurer of the Riverview Ladies
Golf Association in Sun City, Ariz., and a member of the Lime
Creek Nature Center in Mason City.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Ross and her husband,
Fred Heinz of Mason City; one son, John Ross, of Altoona; one
brother, Gerald McVay of Sun City West, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Lydia L. Schreckengost was born with twin brother Herb on Dec.
2, 1916, in Hubbard, the daughter of Gustav and Lydia (Ziebel)
Neubauer.
Her mother died at childbirth and Lydia and Herb were baptized
beside their mother's casket into the Lutheran faith.
She was confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Buckeye.
She attended schools in the Hubbard school system.
She married Robert J. Kalous on March 6, 1935, at St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Buckeye.
They resided in Radcliffe for several years, then moved to Bradford,
where Robert operated a bulk oil plant.
While Robert was in the service, Lydia and their son resided
in Mason City.
After Robert's discharge, they purchased a farm in Horton, Kan.
The family returned to Mason City where Lydia traveled for the
Sunbeam Corp. and did public relations work for United Home Bank
and other firms.
In 1954, she became a Red Cross Gray Lady, where she served
for 10 years.
In 1967, Robert and Lydia moved to Manly where she worked at
the library and continued her volunteer work at Mercy Hospital
in the surgical waiting room.
After Robert's death in November of 1984, Lydia continued to
live in Manly until her marriage to Harold Schreckengost on May
10, 1989, in the chapel of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason
City. They resided in Harold's home in Mason City.
They enjoyed traveling, crafts and volunteering.
Lydia was a very caring person who enjoyed helping people. She
loved her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, traveling,
visiting relatives, painting and crafts.
Lydia was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, worked
many years in the Sunday school, held numerous church offices,
a member of Naomi Circle, L.W.M.L., Mercy Hospital Auxillary,
R.S.V.P., N.E. Iowa Chapter of Ex-P.O.W.s where she was Chapter
Adjutant and a member of the 103rd Infantry Division Auxillary.
Survivors include her husband, Harold E. Schreckengost of Mason
City; one son, Robert R. Kalous Jr. and his wife, Lenora, of
Medical Lake, Wash.; six grandchildren, Robert K. Kalous of Cheney,
Wash.; Vicki Morrison and her husband, Bradley, of Spokane, Wash.;
Mark Kalous and his wife, Kay, of Medical Lake, Wash.; Lynn Ann
Irish, and her husband, Tom, of Airway Heights, Wash.; Jeffrey
Kalous and his wife, Annette of Selah, Wash, and Jean Sansom
and her husband, Darrell, of Touchet, Wash.; 16 great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild; twin brother, Herb Neubauer of Hubbard;

JACKSON, Wyo.
A memorial service will be held for Hans Buehler, 77, at 10
a.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Owen-Bircher Park in Wilson, Wyo.
He died of lung cancer on Tuesday (July 9, 1996) at his home
in Jackson, Wyo.
Hans Buehler was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Mason City, Iowa.
The family lived there until 1930, when they moved to Reading,
Pa., where he graduated from high school.
He attended Iowa State College, received a commission as a second
lieutenant in Field Artillery after four years of R.O.T.C., and
graduated in June of 1942 with a BS in chemical engineering.
Hans Buehler married Helen Harris, also of Mason City, Iowa,
in Moodus, Conn., on Sept. 1, 1942.
Buehler's four-year military service during World War II was
at Fort Sill, Okla., and in the European Theatre of Operations.
In 1946, the couple settled in Knightstown, Ind., and welcomed
three lovely daughters into the family.
He began his career with Container Corporation of America as
a trainee at the Carthage Mill, and was eventually promoted to
general manager there in 1962.
He was assigned in 1966 as general manager of what was then
CCA's Europa Carton Mill, near Bremen, Germany.
In 1968, he was transferred to the Vernon Mill in Los Angeles,
Calif., where he was general manager until his retirement in
1977.
The couple moved to Jackson, Wyo., to pursue their favorite
outdoor sports: hunting, fishing, camping, birding and snow skiing.
He was appointed to serve on the county's planning commission,
the public transportation committee, and was elected to the board
of directors of the five county electric untility.
He volunteered at the Visitor Center, where he eagerly shared
his knowledge of ``the last and best of the Old West'' with some
of the 2 million to 3 million tourists who passed through Jackson
annually. ``These activities gave me a chance to make a contribution
to my community, and to enrich my own life,'' he had commented.
The couple also enjoyed sailing with a variety of freighter
lines for many years, and attending reunions of his college,
his battalion, and with friends and former members.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Skyline Route, Box 7,
Jackson, Wyo. 83001; three daughters, Joan Buehler Maltman, wife
of Dr. Alex Maltman; and their children, Alastair and Emily,
of Aberystwyth, Wales, U.K.; Janet Buehler DeBoer, wife of Paul
DeBoer, and their son, Jason of Layton, Utah; and Judy Buehler
and her daughter, Devon, of Denver, Colo.
Buehler underwent surgery for lung cancer in April of 1995,
and February of 1996, after which he was under Hospice care.
The family suggests donations in his memory may be made to ``Hospice
of the Tetons,'' P.O. Box 428, Jackson, Wyo. 83001.

GREENE
A Funeral Mass for Mary J. Nixt, 89, of 210 West Ely St., will
be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Greene with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial
will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greene.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Reid's Funeral
Chapel in Greene where there will be a Scriptural wake service
at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary service.
Mary Josephine Nilles was born Jan. 30, 1907, near Webster City,
rural Webster County, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Smith)
Nilles, and died Monday (July 22, 1996) at the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital in Charles City of a heart attack.
She received her education in the rural Webster County Schools
and as a teen-ager she and her family moved to rural New Hampton
where she attended the New Hampton Public Schools.
As a young lady she worked as a housekeeper for families in
Floyd County.
On May 10, 1933, she was united in marriage to Henry Nixt at
Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. To this union
was born six children.
They farmed northeast of Greene until 1946 when they moved
into Greene. Mr. Nixt died on Aug. 12, 1957.
She continued to make her home in Greene until entering the
Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene
and a member of St. Lucy's Circle.
Mary's interests included gardening, reading and corresponding
with members of her family.
Living family members include two daughters and their spouses,
Florence and Gary Beek of Greene, and Sharon and Jim Anthony
of Hastings, Minn.; two sons and their spouses, Dr. Henry and
Eloise Nixt of Marion, Ohio, and Dr. Thomas and Sheryl Nixt of
Tamuning, Guam; 19 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one
sister, Rose Butler of Charles City; one brother, Francis Nilles
of Colville, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Ginger Nixt of Sterling,
Colo.; a son-in-law, Richard Tyndall of Winston Salem, N.C.;
and a sister-in-law, Magdalene Nixt of Greene.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Margaret
Tyndall in 1985; son, Roger Nixt in 1993; sister, Catherine Nilles;
and three brothers, Peter, Leo and Carl Nilles.

Ronald Stauner
TREASURE ISLAND, Fla.
Ronald Stauner, 58, of Treasure Island, formerly of Manly,
Iowa, died on Monday (July 15, 1996) of a heart attack in a Florida
hospital.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 30, at the American
Legion Post #158 at Treasure Island.
Burial will be at a later date at the cemetery in Plymouth,
Iowa.
National Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements.
Ronald Stauner was born Dec. 7, 1937, in Mason City, Iowa, a
son of Clarice and Joseph Stauner.
He was raised in Manly and attended Manly Schools.
He worked as an announcer at KGLO Radio, in Mason City, Iowa,
from 1965-1968.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his mother, Clarice Stauner;
one daughter, Stacy Urban, of Minnesota; one son, Bradley Stauner,
of Minnesota; three stepchildren, Kristi and Kari Wood, and Lyle
Wood, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one
brother, Gerald Stauner of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph.

Lena Nielsen, 90, of Sheffield, died Tuesday (July 23, 1996)
at the Sheffield Care Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion-St.
John Lutheran Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Marlin Ingebretson
of Thornton officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup
Funeral Home, Sheffield.
Lena Henrietta Wiele Nielsen, daughter of William and Anna (Liekweg)
Wiele, was born July 22, 1906, at the farm home of her parents,
east of Sheffield.
Lena was baptized in August of 1906, confirmed in the Lutheran
faith in 1921, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church east
of Sheffield which is now Zion-St. John Lutheran Church of Sheffield.
Lena attended rural school and graduated from Sheffield High
School.
She went on to graduate from the Cedar Falls Teachers College
in Cedar Falls.
She taught in several rural schools in the Sheffield area.
Lena married Leslie Nielsen at Yuma, Ariz., on July 25, 1942,
and they made their home in San Diego, Calif., all their married
life.
She continued to make her home there until her health started
to fail, then she moved back to Sheffield in 1985.
She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.
She has been a resident of the Sheffield Care Center since 1991.
She is survived by one sister, Matilda Schroeder of Sheffield;
six nieces; five nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; her parents;
six brothers, Julius, William F., Chris, Ernest, Elmer and Fred;
and two sisters, Elsie Humburg and Bertha Meyer.

William J. Daub, 88, of 520 West Poisal St., died Monday (July
22, 1996) at the Community Nursing Home, Clarksville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Calvary
Baptist Church, Greene, with the Rev. Gary Novak officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

from 7 to 9 p.m.
William Joseph Daub was born Oct. 30, 1907, in rural Thayer,
Union County.
Survivors include his wife, Inez, of Clarksville; two daughters,
Maxine Voy of Hampton, and Kay Brinkman of Greene; two sons,
Dale Daub of Phoenix, Ariz., and John Daub of Mason City; 19
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emma Downey
of Afton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers
and three grandsons.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials
to the William J. Daub Memorial Fund in care of the family.

HARRISON, Ark.
Kenneth Keith Cain, 70, of Harrison, died Tuesday (May 7, 1996)
at NAMC, Harrison.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 26,
1996, at Evergreen Cemetery, Klemme, Iowa.
Christeson Funeral Home, Harrison, was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Keith Cain was born Oct. 18, 1925 in Dunkerton, Iowa,
to Claire Cain and Rhea (Kolwinska) Cain.
He was in the United States Navy for four years from 1942 to
1946.
He lived in Harrison for eight years.
Prior to that he was a resident of Englewood, Colo., where
he was a policeman. He also worked at the Colorado National Bank
as a security guard.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Cain of Harrison,
Ark.; one daughter, Karrie Sue Limperis and her husband, Marcus
Limperis, of Mt. Judea, Ark.; three half-sisters, Jaclyn Plack
of Littleton, Colo., Barb Wood and Karen Arneson, both of Bozeman,
Mont.; and two half-brothers, Ron Cain and Rick Cain, both of
Bozeman, Mont.; and two grandchildren.
