Nelle Elizabeth Coffin Wittmer

MASON CITY 



Mrs. Nelle Elizabeth Coffin Wittmer, 85, of White Oaks Manor,

died July 30, 1996 at her residence.  A service to celebrate

her life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 13, 1996) in the

Eicker Church Chapel, Washington, Iowa, with interment following

at the Eicker Church Cemetery.



Mrs. Wittmer, a native of Mason City, was a graduate of Rockwell

High School and Iowa State Teachers College.  She was the daughter

of the late George Henry and Anna Sadler Coffin.  Mrs. Wittmer

and her late husband, Willis Peter Wittmer, were music and band

instructors in the Rockwell and Mason City School systems.  She

also gave private music lessons.  Mr. and Mrs. Wittmer were involved

with the Masonic Order and the Eastern Star.  She was a member

of Renwick United Methodist Church in Renwick, Iowa, where both

she and Mr. Wittmer were active in the church choir.  After her

retirement from the school system she moved to Colorado Springs,

Colo. and taught music in her own studio.



In addition to her husband, Willis, Mrs. Wittmer was preceded

in death by her daughter, Virginia.  She is survived by her sons,

Larry Wittmer of Charlotte, N.C., and Dr. Jerry Wittmer of Colorado

Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

the Wittmer family.

Bessie L. Lolling was born Sept. 21, 1909 in Woden.



Survivors include two sons, Lanny Lolling of Burnsville, Minn.,

and Dennis Lolling of Wapello; seven grandchildren; and seven

great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers,

and two sisters.

Marion Lamfers

Marion Lamfers, 82, passed away Friday (Aug. 9, 1996) at Muse

Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Olaf

Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating.

Interment will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Dugger-Ewing

Funeral Home.



Marion, the son of Ben and Anna Hiller Lamfers, was born Sept.

24, 1913 in Kanawha.  Marion was united in marriage to Hilda

Mehus at the St. Olaf Lutheran Parsonage.  The couple made their

home on a farm south of Kanawha, where they farmed for nearly

40 years.  In 1978, Marion retired from farming and they moved

into Belmond.  Marion enjoyed spending his time fishing and gardening.

 He was a devoted member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.



Marion is survived by two sons, Richard and his wife, Bernita,

of Grundy Center, and Roger and his wife, Lois, of Kanawha; two

daughters, Diana O'Donnell and her husband, John, of Mason City,

and Linda Kuhlers and her husband, Marlin, of Belmond; grandchildren,

Marc and his wife, Denise, Christine, Rodney and his wife, Kerry,

Randall and Ronald Lamfers, Troy and Scott O'Donnell, Darcy Kruger

and her husband, Kevin; one great-granddaughter, Heather Lamfers;

one brother, Oafae Lamfers of Clarion; four sisters, Carrie Buseman

of Rockford, Gertie Paulson of Garner, Frieda Mehus of Austin,

Minn., and Alice Lamfers of Clarion.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda, in 1989; three

brothers; and four sisters.

Marilyn L. McClary, 57, of 1448 N. Monroe Ave., died Wednesday

(Aug. 7, 1996) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. John Taylor,

interim pastor of First Christian Church, Mason City, officiating.

Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home,

and on Monday until time of services.



The family suggests memorials to the Marilyn L. McClary Memorial

Fund.



Marilyn L. McClary was born Jan. 20, 1939, the daughter of Clarence

and Oneita (Garlock) Finette, in Mason City.  Marilyn attended

Mason City schools and graduated from Mason City High School

in 1957.  Marilyn worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City,

the Hanford Motor Lodge, and at the switchboard at the Cerro

Gordo County Courthouse.  Marilyn enjoyed taking care of elderly

people in recent years.  She also enjoyed art, playing bingo,

and her cats.



She was a member of First Christian Church.



Survivors include one sister, Naomi Winterink and her husband,

Robert, of Charles City; three nieces, Penny Holt of Charles

City, Shelly Butner and her husband, Dave, of Orchard, and Kim

Winterink of Charles City; one nephew, Troy Holt of Charles City;

one grand-niece, Michaela Butner of Orchard; an aunt, Madlon

Garlock of Mason City; and two cousins, Duane Garlock of Northwood,

and Darrell Garlock of Durand, Mich.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

Esther Aletta Roslien

Esther Aletta Roslien, 87, of Kensett, died Thursday (Aug. 8,

1996) at the Manly Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany

Lutheran Church, 600 Fifth St., Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer

(Sam) G. Hernes officiating.  Burial will be in Elk Grove Cemetery,

rural Kensett.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bride Colonial

Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to services

at the church.



Memorials may be made in memory of Esther A. Roslien to Bethany

Lutheran Church, Kensett.



Esther Aletta Roslien was born March 2, 1909 at Roland, the

daughter of Ira and Gurena (Twedt) Erickson.  She was baptized

at the Lutheran church at Roland.  She grew up in Graettinger

and attended and graduated from Kensett High School.  She attended

Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for three years, earning

a teacher's certificate.  She taught school in Kensett and at

the public school in Fertile until her marriage.



Esther was united in marriage to Hartwick O. Roslien on Jan.

18, 1936 at Kensett.  The couple moved to Mason City for a short

time and then to Kensett in 1937.



Esther's faith was a large part of her life.  She was a longtime

member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett.  She taught Sunday

school and was the superintendent of the Sunday school for many

years at the church.  She actively participated in and was president

of both the Ladies Aide and the Woman's Church Circle.



Esther enjoyed fishing, gardening, creating embroidery, reading

and traveling with her husband Hartwick.  She loved her house

in Kensett where she lived for most of her life, and she loved

to bake Norwegian pastries.  She was a very social person, and

a devoted mother and grandmother.



She has resided at the Manly Care Center since 1991.



Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Roslien of White Bear

Lake, Minn.; Craig Roslien and his wife, Pat, of Minnetonka,

Minn.; two grandchildren, Sarah Roslien Zirbes and her husband,

Daniel, of Lakeville, Minn., and Stephen Roslien of Minnetonka,

Minn.; two sisters, Eva Bartleson of Forest City, and Naomi Ostby

and her husband, Roger, of Cedar Falls; one sister-in-law, Helen

Erickson of Estherville; one brother-in-law, Ernest Petersen

of Foley, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hartwick;

three brothers, Jordan Erickson, Earl Erickson, and Everett Erickson;

two sisters, Ruth Toft and Judith Petersen; and two half-brothers,

Silas Erickson and Orvie Erickson.

grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother,

two sisters, and two grandsons.

Rev. Dolores Santos Sheets, 59, passed away Sunday (Aug. 11,

1996) at her home in Camanche.



Services will be held Wednesday at St. Mark's United Methodist

Church in Camanche.  Graveside services will be held at 10:30

a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, with the Rev. J. Larry

Valley officiating.



A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today,

and again from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Camanache Chapel

of the Snell-Zorning Funeral Home.  Visitation will also be held

from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt.



Memorials may be sent to St. Mark's United Methodist Church

in Camanche, Iowa.



Dolores Santos was born in New York City on Feb. 4, 1937.  She

grew up in Chicago, Ill.  On May 30, 1957 she was united in marriage

with William Ralph Massey.  He passed away on Nov. 24, 1969.

She then married Elton Craig Sheets on March 6, 1974 in Rock

Island, Ill.



Dolores attended the University of Iowa and Iowa State University,

graduating with a B.A. degree in May of 1982.  She received a

Master's of Divinity from Methodist School of Theology in Delaware,

Ohio in November of 1985.  She was ordained a full member of

the Iowa Annual Conference in June of 1988.



She had served churches at Clarence, Hansell, West Fork, and

Camanche, Iowa.  She was pastor of St. Mark's United Methodist

Church since June of 1990.  She had been actively involved in

Camanche Kiwanis, Women's Health Service Board, Quantum's Citizens

Advisory Panel, and the Camanche Civil Service Commission.



Dolores is survived by her husband, Elton of Camanche; her father,

August Santos of Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Ronald Sheets of

Camanche, Russell and his wife, Linda Sheets, of Delaware, Ohio,

and Randall and his wife, Una Sheets, of Minneapolis, Minn.

John Gilger Baago

John Gilger Baago, 83, of 1316 N. Shore Drive, died Saturday

(Aug. 10, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason

City.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Agape

Christian Family Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. David Toyne

officiating.  Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway

18 West, Mason City.



Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke

Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour prior to service

time on Tuesday at the church.



The family of John Gilger Baago has requested that memorial

contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.



John Gilger Baago was born on March 14, 1913 in Thornton, the

son of John and Ethel Mary (Gilger) Baago.  He attended and received

his education in the Santa Ana, Calif. school system, graduating

from Santa Ana High School in 1931.  He also graduated from the

National Electrical School in Los Angeles, Calif.  After completing

his schooling he moved to Clear Lake in 1933, and was a day laborer

during the depression, and also did carpentry work in the area

on his own, and electrical work for Art Hammon.  He was united

in marriage to Margaretta Wharam on Sept. 21, 1940 in Dubuque.

 On Dec. 1, 1943 he was inducted into the U.S. Army at Camp Dodge,

Iowa, serving overseas during World War II, where he was an electrical

inspector and power plant operator until his honorable discharge

on Jan. 7, 1946 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.  Throughout his life

he was a self-employed electrician in the Clear Lake area until

his retirement in 1981.



He enjoyed fishing, hunting, was an avid gardener, and he and

his wife Margaretta enjoyed wintering in Florida.



He was a member of the Iowa Electrical Association and former

president.



Survivors include his wife, Margaretta Baago of Clear Lake;

two sons, Myron Lee Baago and his wife, Sue, of Charleston, W.Va.,

and Wade Owen Baago and his wife, Mary Ann, of Clear Lake; five

grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Baago

and his wife, Ann, of Clear Lake; as well as other relatives

and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter,

and one great-granddaughter.

(Aug. 9, 1996) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Jack

Gannett officiating.  Scattering of the ashes will be in the

Garner Cemetery.

is in charge of arrangements.



Phyllis A. Hanson was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Mason City.



Survivors include her husband, Lawrence of Good Shepherd Health

Care Center, Mason City; three brothers, Peter V. Ferleman of

Mason City, Tom C. Ferleman of Albert Lea, Minn., and David E.

Ferleman of Franklin, Tenn.; one sister, Beatrice K. Ferleman

of Iola, Kan.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pearl J. Georgou, 71, of 710 S. Pierce Ave., #224, died Friday

(Aug. 9, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First

Church of the Nazarene, 507 S. Carolina Ave., with the Rev. Curtis

DeLong officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to the service

at the church on Tuesday.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pearl J. Georgou

Memorial Fund.



Pearl J. Georgou was born July 5, 1925 in Newberry, Mich., the

daughter of Clarence and Isabel (Bodi) LaLonde.  She married

Nicholas E. Georgou on May 10, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio.



Pearl was raised in northern Michigan where her father was a

lumberjack.  She moved to Detroit, Mich. where she met her husband.

She and her family moved to Mason City in 1949 and they resided

their entire life at 433 First St. N.E.  In 1990, she moved into

the Autumn Park Apartments.



Pearl worked for many years as a waitress at the Coffee Cup

Cafe and later worked at Marshall and Swift.  She spent much

of her time volunteering at Autumn Park Apartments, Heritage

Nursing Home, Job Service of Iowa, and MacNider Art Museum.

She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.  Pearl was very well known

by her friends for being a caring, gentle and non-judgmental

person.  She was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene.



Survivors include three sons, William Georgou of St. Paul, Minn.,

Angelo Georgou of Newton, and Thomas Georgou of Coralville; six

grandchildren, Scott Robinette of Mason City, Steven Robinette

of Iowa City, Lynnette Moore of Iowa City, Nicholas Georgou and

William Georgou, both of Newton, and Robin Sokora of Austin,

Texas; two great-grandchildren, Carrissa Moore and Clay Bass,

both of Iowa City; one brother, Robert LaLonde of Findlay, Ohio;

and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son,

Gordon Robinette; one sister, Maybelle Zimmerman; and one brother

in infancy.

TITUSVILLE, Fla.



Sylvan Schrage, 75, of Titusville, Fla. died Thursday (July

18, 1996) at Parrish Medical Center, Titusville.



Mr. Schrage was born near Bristow, Iowa, the son of August and

Augusta (Kramer) Schrage, on Oct. 16, 1920.



He attended school in Charles City, Iowa.



He joined the United States Navy in 1938, reaching the rank

of Chief Petty Officer.



After the war, he settled in Richmond Hill, New York. He worked

in New York City at Harris Intertype and retired from Solow Management

as an air-conditioning engineer in 1990.



He and his wife moved to Titusville in 1993.



Survivors include his loving wife, Iris; daughters, Lillian

Goigel and her husband, Ron, and Kathleen Dunn and her husband,

Peter, both of Titusville, Fla.; grandchildren, Timothy, Laurie

and Amanda Dunn, of Titusville, Fla., Diane Goigel and Jackie

Sullivan and her husband, Steve, all of Orlando, Fla.; one great-

granddaughter, Mary Sullivan, of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Caroline

McLennan of Mason City, Iowa, and LaVon Schultz, of Rockford, Iowa;

one brother, Norbert Schrage, of Marion, Iowa; and also many nieces

and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris, in 1957;

his parents; three sisters; and seven brothers.

R. Michael Sweesy, 61, of 18 Lakeview Court, died Sunday (Aug.

11, 1996) at the Elmhurst Hospital Center, Elmhurst, N.Y.



A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family

Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev.

David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery,

Mason City.



Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, where a scriptural

wake service will be held at 7 p.m.



R. Michael Sweesy was born April 17, 1935, the son of Leo and

Alberta (Davey) Sweesy.



He married Ann Crain on Aug. 8, 1964, at Holy Family Catholic

Church, Mason City. Mike and Ann recently celebrated their 32nd

wedding anniversary.



Mr. Sweesy was a graduate of Mason City High School and Mason

City Junior College. He attended the University of Minnesota,

and served in the United States Navy.



Following his discharge from the service he returned to college,

earning an undergraduate degree in economics from Drake University.

In 1962 he received a law degree from Drake University Law School.

He was admitted into practice in both Iowa and Federal courts.



He first entered into private practice in December of 1962 in

Mason City. He served as city attorney from 1964 until 1974,

when he returned to private practice full time.



He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Cerro Gordo

Eunice M. Wyatt, 78, passed away Sunday (Aug. 11, 1996) at

her home in Britt.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the

United Methodist Church, Britt, with the Rev. Dennis Bailey

officiating.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Ewing

Funeral Home, Britt, and one hour prior to services at the church.



Eunice, the daughter of Hans Martin and Eleanora Christina

Frederickson Madson, was born July 22, 1918, on a farm north of

Britt, where she lived much of her life.



She attended Britt Schools, Britt Jr. College and graduated

from Iowa State Teacher's College (UNI).



She married Richard P. Wyatt of Marshalltown on June 27, 1948.



After many years of teaching in country schools, Clear Lake,

Marshalltown and Corwith-Wesley schools, she retired from the

profession in 1982.



After her retirement, she enjoyed the fellowship of several

organizations such as Silver Stars, the American Legion Auxiliary,

and her favorite, the United Methodist Womens' Sewing group.



Besides quilting, she loved nature, knitting, crocheting, crossword

puzzles and ``Jeopardy.''



She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt.



She is survived by her children, Linda Wyatt, of Des Moines;

Ross Wyatt, of Britt; Terry Wyatt, of Forest City; and Becky

Beeler of Britt; two grandchildren, Chas and Willie Beeler of

Britt; a son-in-law, Charlie Beeler, of Des Moines; three sisters,

Rhoda Glenn Ludeke and her husband, Lyle, of Stanardsville, Va.;

Beulah Rumeliote of Mason City; and Grace Sible and her huband,

Si, of Princeton; sister-in-law, Carol Madson of Britt; and a

special cousin, Jeri Beshey and her husband, Jim, of Glencoe,

Minn.; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1983;

her parents; and her brother, Holger Madson.

Immaculate Conception Church, Highway 18 and Clark Street, Charles

City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, of Immaculate Conception

Church, and Father Laurence Dunn, pastor, of St. Phillip the

Apostle Church, Northfield, Ill. officiating. Burial will be

in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.



Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage

Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., where there will a Scriptural wake

service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior

to services at the church on Wednesday.



Mrs. Wilke, the former Louise Gertrude Weber, was born Feb.

12, 1904, in Pipestone, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth

(Hinderman) Weber.



On April 30, 1929, at Sacred Heart Church, Dubuque, Iowa, she

was united in marriage to Lawrence G. ``Larry'' Wilke. Mr. Wilke

died Sept. 14, 1979, in Charles City.



For 17 years, Mrs. Wilke was a clerk at the former Trowbridge

Grocery Store in Charles City.



She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, and the

Rosary Society of the church. While in Northfield, she was a

member of St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church in Northfield.



Living family members include two sons, Delbert and his wife,

Margaret, of Tennyson, Wis., and John of Northfield, Minn.; two

daughters and their husbands, Bette and Lee Bauman of Medina,

Ill., and Lorraine and Carlisle Beekman of Charles City; one

sister, Matilda David of Dubuque; 28 grandchildren; 55 great-

grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence;

sons, Joe and Richard; daughter, Cecelia Schultz; two brothers,

William and Henry Weber; two sisters, Amelia Neis and Hildegard

Weber; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Nyle was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Springfield Township, Winneshiek

County, the son of Melvin and Amelia Kratz Nesvik.



Nyle served in the United States Army for four years and the

United States Navy for 19 years. He retired from the Navy in

1974 as chief petty officer, Parachute Rigger.



He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve, Cedar Rapids, D.A.V.

Iowa Chapter #8; American Legion Post #519 Iowa; V.F.W. #1997

Decorah; Amvets Monona; National Rifle Association; and the Navy

Fleet Reserve Association.



Survivors include his fiancee, Mary Welch, of Monona; two daughters,

Annette Looney of Marion, and Michelle Schlee, of Strawberry

Point; one son, Nyle S. Nesvik of Portland, Ore.; and six

grandchildren.

Richard A. Phelps was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Emmetsburg, the

son of James David and Dorothy Merl (McQuown) Phelps.



He married Patricia Bunday on Feb. 14, 1990, in Mason City.



Richard served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He

then was a truck driver for many years.



Richard enjoyed western movies and sports, especially car racing.



He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.



Survivors include his wife, Patricia Phelps of Mason City; two

sons, Scott Phelps and his wife, Angela, and James Phelps, both

of Lewistown, Mont.; his mother, Dorothy Overturf of Rockwell;

six stepchildren, Carrie Peck and her husband, Doug, of Austin,

Minn.; Chad McBride and his wife, Lori, of Sheboygan, Wis.; Travis

McBride and his significant other, Chris Tesch of Clear Lake;

Jason McBride and his wife, Crystal, of Mason City, and Leslie

Minn., for 22 years.



He moved to Mason City in the early 1990s to live with his daughter.



He was united in marriage to Priscilla Reed on Sept. 25, 1948.



Clarence is survived by his daughter, Belen Butterfield, of

Mason City; his granddaughter, Kaylin Butterfield, of Mason City;

three sisters, Mary Rahmeyer, of Fairmont, Minn.; Alice Dreier,

of Becker, Minn., and Delores Allen of Barre, Vt.; one brother,

Marvin Niemann, of Duluth, Minn.; one half-sister, Ethel Kosloske,

of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; and one half-brother, Donald Niemann of

St. Peter, Minn.



He was preceded in death by his wife; his sister, Viola; and

three brothers, Raymond, Ernie and Edward.

Dora Geneva Dahl was born on May 17, 1917, in Silver Lake Township,

rural Northwood, the daughter of Soren and Cristine (Ellingson)

Loland.



She received her elementary education in the rural country schools

in the Silver Lake area and graduated from Northwood High School.



After completing her schooling, she worked as a housekeeper

for the Brunsvold family in Kensett, and as a bookkeeper for

the Johnson Lumber Company in Northwood.



She was united in marriage to Derwin Dahl on July 20, 1941,

in Le Center, Minn.



After their marriage, she moved to the farm where her husband

lived west of Manly, and together they farmed until their retirement

in 1982, moving to Northwood in 1989. On July 20 of this year,

they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.



She enjoyed crafts, sewing Barbie doll clothes for her grandchildren,

quilting, genology, scrapbooks and camping. They belonged to

a camping club in the North Iowa area.



She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a church circle

in Manly and was also a member of the Ostomy Club in Mason City.



Survivors include her husband, Derwin Dahl of Northwood; two

sons, Donavon Dahl and his wife, Janey, of Phoenix, Ariz., and

LaVern Dahl and his wife, Tanya, of Mason City; one daughter,

Imogene Woodhouse and her husband, Paul, of Albert Lea, Minn.;

four grandchildren, Tamie (Woodhouse) Mehus of Albert Lea, Minn.;

Tennile Woodhouse of Madison, Wis.; Tiffani (Dahl) Allen of Hampton,

Courtny Dahl of Mason City; two great-grandchildren, Cody and

Alex; two brothers, Stanley Loland and his wife, Lillian, of

Toterville, and Jacob Loland of Rake; two sisters, Margaret Brunsvold

of Wilmington, N.C., and Ruth Winkleman of Northwood; a special

friend, Lila Ellingson, and her late husband, Kenneth, of Gordonsville,

Slyke Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of Clear Lake

United Methodist officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park

Cemetery, Mason City.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Richard V. Evenson

Memorial Fund.



Richard was born June 26, 1943, in Mason City, the son of Virgel

and Alene (Schneider) Evenson. Richard entered the Air Force

in November of 1961 and served his country for 20 years retiring

as a civil engineer May 6, 1984.



Richard was a kind and loving man. He married Loma Decker on

April 22, 1973, and she passed away April 22, 1982.



He married Bonnie Amundson on Dec. 29, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nev.



Richard worked for Unisys for six years until they closed, and

then went to work for Cole Sewell for five years in the production

area.



Richard is survived by his wife, Bonnie Evenson, of Clear Lake;

mother, Mrs. Alene Fain of Sheffield; seven stepchildren, Dennis

Amundson and his wife, Stephanie, of San Diego, Calif.; Jay Amundson

and his wife, Linda, of Clear Lake; JoDee Cooling, of Fon du

Lac, Wis.; Loma Vessey and her husband, John, of St. Paul, Minn.;

Walter Decker and his wife, Lynette, of Florida, and Kathy Lolley

of Louisiana; one brother, Gregory Evenson, of Boone; two sisters,

Carolyn Smit and her husband, Delbert, of Sheffield, and Charlotte

Vaughn Walter Severson, 47, of Lake Mills, died Wednesday (Aug.

14, 1996) at Abbott-Northwest Hospital, Minneapolis.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace

Community Church, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Doug Domokos officiating.

Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mittelstadt

Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.



Vaughn Walter Severson was born Jan. 28, 1949, in Forest City,

Winnebago County.



Survivors include his wife, Avis Severson of Lake Mills; one

daughter, Heather Severson; and one son, Travis Severson, both

of Mason City; his mother, Velma Severson of Lake Mills; sister,

Valjean Severson of Lake Mills; sister, Vernell Alexandres of

Mason City; brother, Vance Severson of LaPorte City; sister,

Valerie Monson of Forest City; and brother, Verlyn Severson of

Lake Mills.



He was preceded in death by his father.



Vaughn was known for his devout faith in Christ and his deep

love of family.

SWALEDALE



Sara Elizabeth Godden, 95, of Swaledale, formerly of Manly,

died Tuesday (Aug. 13, 1996) at the Rockwell Community Nursing

Home, Rockwell.



Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Manly

Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating.



Visitation will begin one hour prior to graveside services today

at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly.



Sara Elizabeth Godden was born July 7, 1901, at Chicago, Ill.,

daughter of Charles A. and Edna M. (Simpson) Moe.



She was united in marriage to Forrest Godden on Oct. 27, 1926,

at Minneapolis, Minn.



The couple moved to Manly in 1934.



Mrs. Godden was the secretary for the World War I Organization.

She was a member of the Manly Legion Auxiliary, the Happy Hour

Circle, the Grandmother's Club, the Manly Garden Club and Bethel

United Methodist Church, Manly.



She liked flowers and handiwork.



Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Just, Swaledale; one

son, Forrest L. Godden and his wife, Margaret, of Cape Coral,

Fla.; two grandsons, Steven Godden of Cape Coral, Fla.; and David

Just and his wife, Carolyn, of Swaledale; three great-grandchildren,

Suzanne Just, Jeffery Just and Karie Just, all of Swaledale;

one sister, Kathryn Edwards of Lockhart, Texas; and one nephew,

Arthur J. Edwards of Austin, Texas.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law,

Alex; and two grandchildren, Duane and Jeanette.

Mrs. Matilda Christensen, 93, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Aug.

13, 1996) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran

Church, 112 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating.

Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van

Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and from 8:30 to 9:30

a.m. Friday at the funeral home and after 10:30 a.m. at the church.



The family suggests memorials be made to the Matilda Christensen

Memorial Fund.



Matilda was born Sept. 4, 1902, in Tieste, Denmark, the daughter

of Jens and Maren Paulsen.



She moved with her parents to Clear Lake in 1910. The family

then moved to a farm north of Clear Lake. She attended school

in Ventura.



Matilda married Einer Christensen on Nov. 5, 1921, in Mason

City. They farmed south of Ventura, until moving to Clear Lake

in 1965.



She loved to cook for her family and their friends. Matilda

was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.



Matilda is survived by three children, Max Christensen and his

wife, Mary, of Ventura; Maxine Sommerfeld of Mason City; and

Curtis Christensen and his wife, Betty, of Ventura; one sister,

Mildred Rule of Bellevue; 10 grandchildren, Ron Gunderson and

his wife, Beth, of Columbus, Ga.; Shirley Baker and her husband,

Alan, of Ventura; Bob Sommerfeld and his wife, Mary, of Elkhorn,

Neb.; Steve Sommerfeld and his wife, Sheryl, of St. Louis, Mo.;

Dave Sommerfeld and his wife, Katy, of Aurora, Ill.; Lisbeth

Decker of Mason City; Doug Christensen and his wife, Cindy, of

Cedar Falls; Tom Christensen and his wife, Celia, of Sioux City;

Dick Christensen and his wife, Tracy, of Cedar Rapids; and Susan

Clark and her husband, Brad, of West Des Moines; 22 great-grandchildren;

and two great-great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son-in-law,

Bob Sommerfeld.
