Alvin Anderson

NORTHWOOD 



Alvin Anderson, 91, pf Northwood, died Thursday (April 25, 1996)

at the Manly Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Elk Creek

Lutheran Church, Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer ``Sam'' Hernes

officiating.  Burial will be in the Elk Creek Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Schroeder

and Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South.



Alvin was born on May 1, 1904, near Kensett in Brookfield Township,

Worth County.  He was the son of Alfred and Alena (Brunsvold)

Anderson.  Alvin was baptized and confirmed in Elk Creek Lutheran

Church of which he was a lifelong member.  He served on the church

council and did various church functions.  Alvin attended school

at Brookfield No. 9.  He was a farmer all of his life until he

retired and moved to Northwood in 1972 because of failing health.

Alvin married Alice Miller on April 5, 1933.  She died that

same year.  Alvin was united in marriage to Marcella Bosch on

Feb. 17, 1950.  He loved nature, farm life, playing cards and

visiting with friends and family.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and

his brother, Morris.



Alvin is survived by his wife, Marcella, of Northwood; his sisters,

Amey and her husband, Alvin Johnson, and Margaret Sigmond, both

of Northwood; his sisters-in-law, Blanche Anderson of Kensett,

and Lynnea Bosch of Rockwell; their special friend, Jennifer

Dall-Winther of Iowa City, who was like a granddaughter; several

nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Helena Regina Tiemmessen, 94, of North Washington, died Friday

(April 26, 1996) at the Rockwell Community Rest Home, Rockwell.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate

Conception Church, with the Rev. Francis Perry officiating. Burial

will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary

by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a 7:30 p.m.  parish

Scripture at Larkin-Martin Funeral Home, New Hampton.



Helena was born Dec. 5, 1901, in New Hampton.



Survivors include four daughters, Arlene Schmitt of Rockwell;

Ruth Ostrye, of Pinole, Calif.; Alice Ward of Olathe, Kan., and

Genevieve Tingstrom of Shell Knob, Mo.; a son, Jerome of Anchorage,

Alaska; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-

grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene of Dubuque, and Clara Gebhardt

of Olympia, Wash.; and one brother, Henry Glaser of Los Angeles,

Calif.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son,

one great-grandchild, a brother and four sisters.

Harris `Slim' Leroy Holt

MASON CITY 



Harris ``Slim'' Leroy Holt, 80, of 620 Briarstone Drive, died

Thursday (April 25, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient

Unit.



Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Grace

United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W.,  with  the Rev. Herbert

Shafer officiating. Cremation was performed at Memorial Park

Crematory.



Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E.,

is in charge of arrangements.



Harris was born on Oct. 19, 1915, in Northwood, the son of Oscar

C. and Ellen (Reyerson) Holt.



He attended school in Gordonsville, Minn., and then was

employed as a mechanic for over 40 years at the Chevy Garage

in Albert Lea, Minn., and then worked for Queen Stove, Inc. making

Scottsman Ice Making Machines. He retired in 1978.



He was a resident of Albert Lea, Minn., until his retirement

and then moved to Mason City in 1983.



He was a former member of the Albert Lea Methodist Church. He

was a member of the Moose and Eagle Lodges and the Senior Bowling

League, all of Mason City, and was a charter member of the Red Oak

Rod and Gun Club of Albert Lea, Minn.



Slim loved the outdoors, spending time pheasant and duck hunting

as well as being seen most mornings fishing.



Harris is survived by his special friend, Grace Faber; two daughters,

Mrs. Ron (Marilee) Holt Steele, of Ellendale, Minn., and Mrs.

John (Elizabeth R.) Holt Sauer, of Baxter; and one son, Thomas

and his wife, Starr Holt, of Albert Lea, Minn.; two half sisters,

Mrs. Wayne (Lenora) Potter, of Ava, Mo., and Mrs. Emery (LeAnn)

Jensen, of Glendale, Ariz.; a half brother, Richard and his wife,

Joann Holt, of Owatonna, Minn.; six grandchildren; and two great-

grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

MASON CITY 



Theron I. Lessor, 88, of Fort Meyers, Fla., formerly of Mason

City, died Friday (April 26, 1996) at Hill Haven Rehabilitation

Center in Fort Meyers.



A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph

Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. James E. Hayes

officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with

full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial

Association.



Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a scriptural prayer service

at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Moose Pilgrim service at 7:30 p.m.



Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral chapel.

Juanita Billie Frerichs

CLEAR LAKE 



Juanita Billie Frerichs, 83, of 1200 10th Ave. N., died Saturday

(April 27, 1996) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Ward-Van

Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Thomas

Healey of First Congregational Church, officiating.  Burial will

be in Clear Lake Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral

home.



The family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice of North

Iowa.



Billie Frerichs was born March 25, 1913 in Chapin to Clarence

and Edna (Johnson) VanMeter.  She graduated from Rockwell High

School in 1930.



On Jan. 31, 1933, she married John Frerichs of Wellsburg.  They

made their home there until they moved to Clear Lake in 1967.



She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary until it disbanded

in Clear Lake.  She was also a member of the First Congregational

Church of Clear Lake, where she had transferred from the Wellsburg

Reformed Church.



She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, helping at the church, especially

for the Holiday Festival.  She especially enjoyed taking care

of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called

her ``Granny Bill.''



She is survived by three children, Gary and his wife, Eunice

Frerichs, Sandra Treadway, and Cindy Paulsen, all of Clear Lake;

12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;

one sister, Helena Oetken of Osage; and one brother, C.M. VanMeter

and his wife, Noi, of Tuscon, Ariz.; as well as nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one sister,

Jeanie Miller.

Floyd Koepke was born May 23, 1901 in rural Burt.



Survivors include his wife, Isabelle Koepke of Burt; one daughter,

Caradene Parsons of Lone Rock; one son, Darwin Koepke of Algona;

five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one

brother.

Anton ``Tony'' Knutson, 85, died Saturday (April 27, 1996) at

Good Samaritan Center, Forest City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salem

Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating.  Burial

will be in Sion Lutheran Church Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Mittelstadt Funeral

Home.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at

the church on Tuesday.



Anton ``Tony'' Knutson was born Aug. 25, 1910 in Barron County,

Wis.



Survivors include three sisters, Inga Corpe of Elkhart, Ind.,

Gunda Lamar of Osakis, Minn., and Ann Duescher of Davis, Ill.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Omar ``Buck'' Lenning, 80, died Friday (April 26, 1996) at Oakwood

Omar Lenning was born April 13, 1916 in Comfrey, Minn.  He was

the 10th child of Knute and Elizabeth (Kittelson) Lenning.  The

family moved to Clear Lake when Omar was about nine years old.



In 1942 he entered the United States Army where he was in Cavalry

Reconnaissance Troup C, serving mainly in France.  He was awarded

the Battle Star while in Africa.  Other honors included the American

Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal,

Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, two overseas

service bars and one service stripe.  He was honorably discharged

from the Army on March 17, 1946.



He worked for the CC's, doing carpentry and road work.  While

working on a road crew near Burt, he met his future wife.  He

married Shirley Jeanne Siems on Dec. 12, 1953 at the Fairville

Church at Cylinder.  They farmed most of their married life northwest

of Fenton.  They enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.  The couple

had one daughter, Linda Marie.  They moved to Clear Lake in July,

1977.



Shirley died Aug. 8, 1978 as a result of a stroke and pneumonia.

She had diabetes for many years.  She is buried at Fairville

Lutheran Church, rural Cylinder.



Omar moved from his home in Clear Lake to Prairie View Retirement

Apartments in Garner in 1933.  He enjoyed spending time with

his family at his cabin on Lost Island Lake, near Ruthven.



In July, 1995 he moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake,

due to poor health.



He is survived by his daughter, Linda Marie and her husband,

Michael Hamilton of Garner; two sisters, Minnie Findlay of Mason

City, and Viola Madsen of Clear Lake; a brother, Arthur Lenning

of Vallejo, Calif.; three grandchildren, Noelle, Cory and Barbra

Hamilton, all of Garner.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five sisters,

Olive, Mary, Olive, Clara, and Ina; and three brothers, Ed, Edwin

and Clarence.

Raymond C. ``Charlie'' Hart

MASON CITY 



Raymond C. ``Charlie'' Hart, 63, of 119 13th St. N.E., died

Saturday (April 27, 1996) at his home.



A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family

Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. John R. Kremer

officiating.



No visitation will be held. Mr. Hart's body has been donated

to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.  Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., is handling arrangements.



Memorials may be given to the Raymond C. ``Charlie'' Hart memorial

fund in his memory.



Raymond Charles Hart was born May 22, 1932 at Mason City, a

son of Albert and Anna (Schmidt) Hart.  He married Rosie Marshall

at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.



Charlie attended school at Marble Rock, and later served in

the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He worked at the former Jacob

E. Decker and Sons Meatpacking Plant, and later, Armour Foods,

for over 31 years.



He especially enjoyed Canadian fishing trips with the Lunker

Club, and racing stock cars.  He raced stock cars for over 17

years at various tracks throughout North Iowa.



He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge,

and the Lunker Club, all of Mason City.



Charlie is survived by his wife, Rosie Hart of Mason City; four

sons, Bradley Hart and friend, Fredde, Kevin Hart and his wife,

Ruth, Dennis Hart and his wife, Robin, and Scott Hart, all of

Mason City; one daughter, Brenda Hart and friend, Andy of Mason

City; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Sorenson of Mason

City, and Florence Snook of Marble Rock; one brother, David Hart

of Terra Haute, Ind.

will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday by the Guild Rosary.  There will be

a 7:30 p.m. scripture reading and an 8 p.m. Parish Rosary.



Elvira J. Illg was born May 2, 1921, in Kossuth County, near

Livermore.



She is survived by four daughters, Mary Illg of Harlan, Phyllis

Sankey or Corpus Christi, Texas, Donna Hansen of Clarence, and

Susan Illg Musielewicz of Maplewood, Minn.; three sons, John

of Bode, Dr. James of Humboldt, and Joseph of Bode; a sister,

Florence Klein, of Algona; and nine grandchildren.



She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter;

and one brother.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Blanche Claude was born July 25, 1909 in Britt.



She is survived by her husband, Fred Claude; a daughter, Marilyn

(Richard) Lundmark of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren;

and three great-grandchildren.



She is preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Marian A. Davis, 87, of 707 Elm St. E., died Saturday (April

27, 1996) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Park Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson of the

First United Methodist Church, Mason City, officiating.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with a family

and friends memorial service at 7:30 p.m.



Memorials may be given to Rockwell Community Nursing Home in

memory of Marian A. Davis.



Marian was born Aug. 24, 1908, in Freeborn County, Minn., to

George E. and Mae M. (Barker) Jones.



She graduated from Freeborn High School and Mankato State with

a teaching degree. She taught four years.



She was married to Donald R. Davis in Minneapolis on Dec. 29,

1928. He preceded her in death in 1948.



She worked for Stoddard Manufacturing Company for a time and

was a nurses aide at the Park Hospital. Marian worked at the

Mason City Public Library for eight years, and at the Clear Lake

Public Library for a time. For 16 years, she worked in the Medical

Library at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1973.



She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a

past member of the Iowa Library Association. She lived in Indianola

for six years.



Survivors include son, Donald Robert Davis and wife, Nita, of

Texarkana, Ariz.; daughter, Betty A. Smith and husband, Richard,

of Indianola; son, Richard D. Davis and wife, Edna, of Sun Valley,

Nev.; son, Leslie D. Davis and his wife, Barbara, of Worley,

Idaho; daughter, Carol E. Wallace and husband, Larry, of Indianola;

daughter, Sharon M. Sharp, of Indianola, and daughter, Lois A.

Brown and husband, Dallas, of Rockwell; 21 grandchildren; 43

great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law,

Berniece Barron of Mason City, Ruth Conway of Mason City, and

Doris Davis of Fort Scott, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1948; one

sister; three brothers; daughter, Marilyn J. Brood in 1991; four

Roman Augustine Simper

INGELWOOD, Calif.



Roman Augustine Simper, 76, of Inglewood, Calif., died Friday

(April 26, 1996) at the Robert Kennedy Hospital, Hawthorne, Calif.



Services were held Monday at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, Westchester,

Calif.



Roman Simper was born Feb. 28, 1920, at Garner, Iowa, to Frank

and Anna (Spangler) Simper.



He graduated from Garner High School in 1939. In 1942, he enlisted

in the United States Army Air Force and served until 1946.



On April 24, 1944, he married Agnes Falada at St. Wenceslaus

Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa.



In 1946, they moved to Inglewood, Calif., where he worked as

a mechanic at Prince Chrysler Plymouth Agency in Los Angeles.



He is survived by his wife, Agnes Simper of Inglewood, Calif.;

three sons, Leo Simper of Helendale, Calif.; Ralph Simper and

his wife, Gloria, of Inglewood, Calif., and Ray Simper and his

wife, Paula, of Rancho Palas Verdes, Calif.; four grandchildren,

Ryan, Stephanie, Chrisie and Ralph; his sister, Ann Falada and

her husband, Francis, of Garner, Iowa; two nieces, Mary Ann Stupka

and Linda Webster; and 11 nephews, Anthony Young, Robert Young,

Raymond Young, Francis Young, Elmer Young, Carl Young, Richard

Young, Paul Falada, Randy Miles, Ronald Miles and Roger Miles.



He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe

Simper, Fred Simper and Leo Simper; and two sisters, Mary Young

and Agnes Simper.

Harry Mattison, 80, of Thompson, died Monday (April 29, 1996)

at Westview Care Center, Britt.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethany

Lutheran Church, Thompson, with the Rev. Perry Fruehling. Interment

will be in Linden Cemetery, rural Thompson.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Petersen

Lund Funeral Home, Forest City.



Harry Mattison  was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Thompson.



Survivors include his wife, Marlys Mattison of Thompson; two

daughters, Karen Carpenter of Des Moines, and Carolyn Volsen

of Wells, Minn.; four sons, Dennis,  Robert and Mark Mattison,

all of Thompson, and Steven of Dickinson, Texas; and four grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy;

a brother; and an infant son.

Ruth Nelson, 91, of Forest City, died Monday (April 29, 1996)

at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Bill Peters

officiating. Burial will be in Winnebago Lutheran Church Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen

Ruth Nelson was born May 23, 1904, in Mount Valley Township,

Winnebago County.



Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Ostlund of Burnsville,

Minn.; two sons, Duane and Valere Nelson, both of Forest City;

eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-

grandchild.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, granddaughter,

three sisters and two brothers.

Mabel Helena Matson was born April 20, 1918, at Charles City.



Survivors include one daughter, Charlene Marson of Waterloo;

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and

one brother.

of Garner.



Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Nedved of Britt; two

Garner; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters

and six brothers.

Jack Accurso was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Mason City, Iowa, to

Charles and Tina (Tagliareno) Accurso.



He was a letter carrier for the United States Government for

many years.



He was a veteran of the United States Navy.



Survivors include one brother, Anthony Accurso and his wife,

Lois, of Bancroft, Iowa; and one sister, Katherine Ewy and her

husband, Elwood, of Mason City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Jr. ``Pat'' Accurso;

one sister, Jennie Stephenson, and brothers, John Accurso and

Joe Accurso.
