Mildred E. Keller, 81, of Clarion, died Saturday (April 13,

1996) at Clarion Community Memorial Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Willim

Funeral Home, Clarion, with the Rev. Clyde Caselton officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral

home.



Mildred E. Keller was born April 14, 1914, in Cedar Rapids.



Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Peck of Cedar Rapids;

three sons, Glenn Keller of Denver, Colo., Floyd Keller of Brooklyn

Center, Minn.. and Robert Keller of Hawthorne, Calif.; seven

gradnchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grand-

children; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, 

Kenneth Nye and James Nye, both of Cedar Rapids, and the Rev. 

Vernon Nye of Anderson, Ind.



She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, three brothers

and three sisters.

Laura E. Keith, 91, of Rowan, died Sunday (April 14, 1996)

at the Clarion Healthcare Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the

United Church of Rowan with the Rev. JoAnn Skyrme officiating.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Willim

Funeral Home, Clarion.



Laura E. Keith was born Feb. 14, 1905, in Rowan.



Survivors include her husband, Charles, at the Clarion Healthcare

Center; one daughter, Beverly Wason of Clarion; four grandchildren;

nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Fanselow of Boulder,

Colo.



She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers,  two

sisters and two grandsons.

GARNER 



Sarah Jo Maben Jeambey, 29, of Garner, died Sunday (April 14,

1996) at  North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City, as the

result of injuries received in an automobile accident on U.S.

Highway 18 in Clear Lake.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the

United Methodist Church, Garner, with the Rev. Robert T. Ellis

officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cataldo

Funeral Chapel, Garner.



Sarah Jo Jeambey, the daughter of Gary R. and Patricia L. (Irving)

Maben, was born Jan. 4, 1967, at Britt.



She attended school at Garner, graduating from Garner-Hayfield

High School in 1985.



After attending college at the Iowa State University in Ames,

where her major was in graphic design, she worked at Multi-Plex

Forms in Des Moines.



On Nov. 23, 1990, she was married to Greg K. Jeambey at Columbia,

Md.



Sarah also worked for Commnet Cellular, Inc., and was  employed

by Piper Jaffray as an investment executive in Mason City at

the time of her death.



Her life centered around her children, Jeremy and Jenna.



She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Exchange

Club, Business and Professional Women, the United Way, the Mason

City Chamber of Commerce, Beta Sigma Phi and Delta Delta Delta

Sorority. She worked actively on the Garner Chamber of Commerce

and the Quasquicentennial Committee.



Survivors include her two children, Jeremy S. Jeambey and Jenna

L. Jeambey, both of Garner; her parents, Gary and Pat Maben of

Garner; her brother, Scott R. Maben, of Greeley, Colo.; maternal

grandparents, Herbert and Gelaine Irving of Garner; paternal

grandfather, Orville Maben of Garner; and her special friend,

Tim Schmidt of Garner.



She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Gladys Maben,

on  Oct. 22, 1993.



Memorials may be given to the Jeremy and Jenna Jeambey Scholarship

Fund in her memory.

Harold G. Thomas

MASON CITY 



Harold G. Thomas, 58, of 3365 Dancer Ave., Osage, formerly

of Mason City, died Saturday (April 13, 1996) at the Mitchell

County Regional Health Center.



A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday

at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City,

with the Rev. Raymond Burkle and Matthew Berry, deacon, officiating.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral

Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., where there will be a 5 p.m.

Moose memorial service, a 6 p.m. Masonic service by Harding Lodge

No. 649 A.F.& A.M. and a 7 p.m. Scripture wake service.



Memorials may be given to the Harold G. Thomas Memorial Fund.



Harold G. Thomas was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Dows,a son of Sumner

C. and Alta L. (Simpson) Thomas.



He moved to Mason City as a child,  attended Mason City schools

and graduated from Mason City High School in 1955.



Harold worked for Northwestern States Portland Cement Company

until May 8, 1967, when he joined the Mason City Police Department

as a patrolman. He  retired as a captain in August of 1992.



After retirement, Harold worked at the Plant Ranch, Diaper Depot

and Lewis Systems.



Harold married Melissa Holding on Oct. 8, 1994. They made their

home in Osage.



Harold was a very special, kind, caring and understanding man

who was always willing to go the extra mile for anyone.



His interests included traveling, gardening and fishing.



But most of all, he enjoyed his family and friends.



Harold was a member of the Mason City Police Association, where

he was active in many community service projects. He was a member

of High 12, where he served as past president, and was past president

of the Iowa-South Dakota District of High 12. He was a member

of the Mason City York Rite; El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids,

where he was a past president; was past president of the North

Iowa Shrine Club; was a member of Harding Lodge  No. 649 A.F.

& A.M., where he was past master; and the Moose Lodge.



He volunteered several hours teaching CPR for the Red Cross.

He was a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach.



Survivors include his loving wife, Melissa Thomas of Osage;

his stepdaughter, Rebecca, of Osage; three sons, David Thomas

and his wife, Jeanette, of Fort Hauchuca, Ariz., Deric Thomas

and his wife, Deborah, of Manly, and Danne Thomas and his wife,

Theresa, of Minneapolis; one daughter, Roxanne Haberek of Mason

City; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Uker and her husband,

Jerry, of Osage; and one brother, Richard Thomas and his wife,

Barbara, of Crescent; many nieces and nephews; and his father-in-

law, Leo Holding of Dougherty.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one

niece.

MANLY 



H. Wilbur Hill, 82, of Manly, died Sunday (April 14, 1996)

at his home.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel United

Methodist Church in Manly with the Rev. James Poulsen officiating.



Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, with full military

honors by members of Edward Tosel American Legion Post No. 110

of Manly.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Bride Colonial

Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to services

at the church on Thursday.



H. Wilbur Hill was born on Oct. 12, 1913, in Lyle, Minn., a

son of Harry William and Mary E. (Harry) Hill.



He received his education in the Plymouth School system,  graduating

from Plymouth High School in 1929. He also attended  Mason City

Junior College.



After completing his education, he worked with his father in

their trucking business in Plymouth and Manly.



He was united in marriage to Eulalia Vasbinder on June 21, 1939,

in Mason City. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding

anniversary this June.



He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and served overseas

in the European Theater during World War II.



In 1949, The Hills moved to Manly where they, along with his

brother, Ray, owned and operated  Hills Truck and Auto where

they sold Jeeps and International Trucks. They also operated

the Standard Oil Station in Manly for several years. He also

was the custodian at the North Central High School in Manly 

until his retirement in 1979.



He enjoyed gardening, was an avid sports fan, especially of

the Minnesota Vikings football and the Minnesota Twins baseball

clubs, and also enjoyed visiting with the students at the North

Central School.



He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, the Christian

Home Builders Class at the church and of Edward Tosel American

Legion Post  No. 110, all in Manly.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Eulalia, of Manly; a

son, Curtis A. Hill, of Rockford, Ill.; a grandson, Steven Schachtner

of Poplar Grove, Ill.; a brother, Ray Hill and his wife, Shirley,

of Winter Haven, Fla.; and a sister, Hazel Lindgren, of Ames,

as well as several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles

Hill; and a sister, Alma Dutcher.

MASON CITY  



Marie J. Schalekamp, 91, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Thursday

(April 11, 1996) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First

United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave, with the Rev. Charles

Q. Wallace and the Rev. Sharon Betsworth officiating. Esther

Barrick will be the scripture reader.



Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Sioux Center.



There is no visitation. Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N.

Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.



Marie was born Aug. 24, 1904, in Sioux Center to Henry James

and Jennie (Vander Linden) Schalekamp. She graduated from Sioux

Center High School in 1922, then attended Central College, Pella,

receiving her B.A. degree and graduating  Magna Cum Laude in

dramatic speech and oratory debate. She graduated from the State

University of Iowa in 1939 with her M.A. degree.



She first taught in rural school at Sioux Center for two years

and taught in public school at Essex for seven years. She taught

in public school and community college at Red Oak for 14 years.

She taught at North Iowa Area Community College for 21 years

and after her retirement, taught part-time at Newman High School

for four years. While attending the University of Denver, she

co-authored a textbook, ``Communicating Effectively.''



She was a member of First United Methodist Church, We Serve

God Circle, Delta Kappa Gamma, Browning Study Club, Monday Club,

AAUW (1985 Name Grant Honoree), Toast Mistress Club (international

speaker for Toast Mistress Club) and PEO Chapter DZ. She was

a life member of ISEA and NEA.



She served on the Executive Committee of UMW, Executive Board

of Retired Teachers and on the  boards of YWCA and AFS, and also

served on some commissions in the church until 1987.



She taught Bible study at Heritage Care Center and RISE Program

at Madison School, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a volunteer

for rentals at the Charles H. MacNider Museum and had programs

at Good Shepherd.



Survivors include her sister, Bernice Bosveld and husband, Lou,

of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Lucille Schalekamp of Sioux Center;

five nephews, Roger Bosveld of Egypt, John Bosveld of Dubuque,

James Bosveld of Columbus, Ohio, Donald Schalekamp of Des Moines

and Bill Schalekamp of Kansas City; and one niece, Mary Schalekamp

Post  of Hudson, Wis.

1996) of cancer at his home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's

Catholic Church in New Hampton, with the Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating.

Ann Bennett will be organist and accompany the adult choir. Betty

Boehmer will be soloist. Maggie Weber and Veronica Goodale will

be Eucharistic Ministers.



Interment will be in the church cemetery with nephews Steve,

Dennis and Jim Jensen, Mike and Mick Tabor, Virgil, Mark, Larry

and Brad Goodale, Ron, Ken, Mike and Joe Weber, and Tom and Kenneth

Theis serving as casket bearers.



Graveside military rites will be accorded by members of the

American Legion and VFW Posts of New Hampton.



Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Conway Funeral

Home, New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture

service.



Norbert Lawrence Theis was born Sept. 5, 1937, at Osage, the

son of Gilbert Melbourne and Gladys Irene (Womack) Theis.



He was a 1955 graduate of St. Mary's High School in New Haven.



He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.



On Feb. 13, 1960, he was married to Nancy Clark at Sacred Heart

Catholic Church in Osage.



After their marriage, they farmed in the Riceville and New Haven

area until moving to Fort Dodge in 1965. They moved to New Hampton

in 1969 where Norb was active in his trade of installing floor

covering. He opened his own store a year ago.



Norb is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, David and Steve,

both of New Hampton; three daughters, Laurel Theis of Houston,

Texas; Jennifer Theis and Stephanie Theis, both of New Hampton;

three granddaughters; his mother and stepfather, Gladys Theis-Grube

and John Paul Grube, of Charles City; three sisters, Mary Jensen

and her husband, Marvin, of Osage; Veronica Goodale and her husband,

William, of Manly, and Maggie Weber and her husband, Larry, of

Charles City; one brother, George Theis and his wife, Theresa,

of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Melbourne Theis.

Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, with the Rev. Ken Suetterlin

of the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Burial

will be in  Crystal Lake Cemetery.

Thursday at the funeral home.



Survivors include his parents, Kristi Benson and John Leight

of Forest City; four brothers, Sheldon, Travis and Aaron Benson

and Shawn Leight; three sisters, Sandy, Carla and Denise Leight;

grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Thompson of Forest City,

and Mr. and Mrs. John Leight of Minneapolis, Minn.



He was preceded in death by a brother, Derek, who died in 1983.

Robert M. Tutton

LAKE WORTH, Fla.  



Mr. Robert M. Tutton, 90, passed away March 25, 1996.  Although

living in Florida for the past 15 years and a short time in Texas,

he and his wife of 67 years (Marion C. Tutton) spent the majority

of their time in Iowa.



Born in Auburn, N.Y., on July 27, 1905, to Headley and Katie

G. Tutton, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and

Tristate Engineering of Angola, Ind.  After working for a short

time in North Florida with the Highway Department, he moved to

Iowa, joining the Iowa Highway Commission. He met G. Marion Church,

a teacher in Kinross, who was to become his wife of 67 years

and the mother of their two sons, Roger of New Orleans, and Merrill

of London, England.  They summered on the North Shore of Clear

Lake for over 50 years while his career caused many relocations

around Iowa as he moved from inspector to the number two role

in the Highway Commission of Deputy Chief Engineer.  They called

Clear Lake home, but resided in Ames and Cedar Rapids two different

times.



Survivors include his two sons, seven grandchildren and five

great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, on April 30, 1995.



A memorial service will be held this summer in Clear Lake for

the family.  Any remembrances should be made in his name to your

favorite charity.

and Curtis of Jacksonville, Ark.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-

grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one

brother and one grandson.

Evelyn Nelson (Mrs. Ernest) passed away on April 16, 1996, at

her home in Kanawha.  She was born in Kanawha on Feb. 22, 1911,

and educated in the Kanawha schools.



On Dec. 18, 1930, Evelyn married Ernest H. Nelson in Rowan,

in a double wedding ceremony with Jessie and Herb Mewes.



During Evelyn's lifetime, she was employed by J.U. Johnson,

and was an accountant for City Meat Market, E.H. Nelson Implements,

Custom Farm Services and the Grethen House.



Mrs. Nelson was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church

and was active in UMC Women's Society for over 60 years.  Evelyn

was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Past Noble Grands.



Evelyn's interests during her life were reading, raising flowers

and knitting, but the love of her life was her family and she

kept in close touch with every family member until the end.



Mrs. Nelson was the mother of Ronald, who died in infancy; Bonnie

Wehrspan of Algona, and Sandra Stroner of Chicago, Ill.  Her

grandchildren are Mark Mullins of Phoenix, Ariz.; Michele Mullins

Penning of Garner; Susan Stroner Williams of Hartford, Conn.;

Elizabeth Stroner and Katherine Stroner, both of Chicago.  Great-

grandchildren are Nicholas, Maxwell and Justin Williams and Brooke 

Michaela Penning.



Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents, Mary and Peter Van

Dusseldorp; her husband, Ernest; and son Ronald.  Also preceding

her were five sisters, Martha, Theona, Minnie, Irene and Nellie;

and four brothers, Jake, Neil, Engle and Leonard.



Evelyn is survived by Bonnie and her husband, Ken Wehrspan,

Sandra and her husband, Alan Stroner, her grandchildren and great-

grandchildren, as well as sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, 

and many beloved lifelong friends.

Anna B. Mackin was born June 6, 1907, in Swaledale, a daughter

of William and Mary (Carroll) Finnegan.



She attended and graduated from schools in the Swaledale area

and later attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.



She was a teacher in rural schools.



She married John L. Mackin on June 6, 1931, at St. Joseph Catholic

Church, Mason  City.



She is survived by two sons, John W. Mackin of Scottsdale, Ariz.,

and Robert S. Mackin, of Mason City; one daughter, Mrs. James

(Janet A.) Dorsey of Mason City; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents;

two brothers and two sisters.

Her family moved to North Iowa when she was a young girl and

she graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1926.



She was married to Arthur Johnson at the Methodist Parsonage

in Forest City on Nov. 23, 1938.



The couple farmed near several North Nowa communities until

retiring and moving to Forest City in 1967.



Margaret worked various places in Forest City, the House of

Sweets, the Sale Barn and the grade shcool. 



Arthur died in 1975.



Margaret was a member of Beaver Creek Lutheran Church in rural

Joice and was very active in Ladies Aid where she held office

as historian for several years. She had a keen interest in geneology

and kept track of her family's history as well.



She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in September

of 1988.



She died there on April 17, 1996, at the age of 89 years.



She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Marilyn

and Glenn Fjeld of Joice, and Darlene and James Gremmer of Britt;

a brother, Austin McClain of Waseca, Minn.; six sisters, Eva

Kluver of Britt; Beulah Brue, Wilma Harang and Blanche Grunhovd,

all of Lake Mills; Velma Halverson of Blue Earth, Minn., and

Velva Miller of Bloomington, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Gene,

Jerry and Roger Fjeld, Brian, Jeffrey and Michael Gremmer and

Sheryl Hanna; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and

She was born on a farm at the northeast corner of Charles City,

Iowa, on Feb. 20, 1894, to Andrew and Catherine Musser.



The family moved to Scotland, S.D,. about 1912.



On Dec. 21, 1915, she was married to Joe Eisenmann at Charles

City, Iowa.



They farmed near Sioux Falls, S.D., later moving to Twin Falls,

Idaho. Joe Eisemann died in 1962.



Three of Maude's brothers later moved to Charles City, Iowa:

Willard Musser, Allison Musser and Wheeler Musser.



Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ernie (Ruth) Lish of Pocatello,

Idaho; a niece, Mrs. Alvin (Arlie) Wilson of Charles City, Iowa;

and a nephew, Elwin Musser of Mason City, Iowa.

Blanche L. Prestholt was born March 7, 1897, in Apsley, Ontario,

Canada, daughter of William B. and Almeda (Crarey) Stone.  She

married George A. Prestholt on Dec. 26, 1921, in Davidson, 

Saskatchewan, Canada.



Blanche and her husband lived in Saskatchewan, Canada until

1933 when they moved to Clear Lake.  They then operated Peter's

Cafe and Mather's Grocery Store and then they farmed south of

Clear Lake.  After retirement, they wintered in Phoenix, Ariz.



Blanche was an avid bridge player.  She enjoyed cooking and

baking and loved sharing time with her family and friends.



She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church,

the Rebekah Lodge and a charter member of the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Auxiliary and Am Vets.  She was a longtime member of Lakeview

Club, the Clear Lake Senior Citizens and several bridge clubs.



Survivors include one son, Clayton Prestholt of Clear Lake;

one daughter, Arlene Greiman and her husband, Kermit, of Garner;

three grandchildren, Jeff Greiman and his wife, Rita, of Wooster,

Mass.; Jody Marmaro and her husband, Rudy, of Colorado Springs,

Colo., and George Greiman of Garner; seven great-grandchildren,

James and Christopher Greiman of Wooster, Mass., and Hannah,

Nathan, Jordan, Abigail and Sarah Marmaro, all of Colorado Springs,

Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George

Prestholt, on Dec. 20, 1967; one son in infancy; one sister,

Florence Prentiss; and six brothers, Arthur, Henry, Clarence,

Helen Teresa Youness was born on May 20, 1911, in Burt, the

daughter of Oscar and Rose (Stebritz) Householder.  She attended

and received her education in the Mason City school system. 

After completing her formal education, she moved to St. Paul,

Minn., moving to Manly in 1976 where she did waitressing in Mason

City and Manly.



She enjoyed listening to the radio and reading.



She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.



Survivors include her three sisters, Mary Smith of Manly; Kathleen

Chierello of St. Paul, Minn., and Betty Drasdo and her husband,

Al, of Largo, Fla.; three brothers, Paul Steil and Donald Steil,

both of Mason City, and Bernard Householder of Tehechapi, Calif.,

as well as other relatives and friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Francis
