MANLY 

Helen L. Carroll, 85, of Manly, died Saturday (Dec. 23, 1995)
at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel
United Methodist Church, 503 East South St., Manly, with the
Rev. James V. Poulsen and the Rev. Hubert P. Dahl officiating.
Burial will be in the Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at  Bride Colonial Chapel,
110 Spring Street, Manly, and continue one hour prior to services
at the church on Wednesday.

Helen L. Carroll was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Cerro Gordo County,
a daughter of Steve and Mary (Chladek) Miller. She married Harmon
M. Carroll on March 12, 1930, in Plymouth.

Helen attended school in Plymouth and Rock Falls. She lived
in Worth and Cerro Gordo counties all of her life. She lived
her love for the Lord and her family was top priority in terms
of both quality time and love.

Helen loved flowers and gardening; she knew the true meaning
of ``new life'' both in Christ and in her love for pruning and
planting. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church
where she ministered to the elderly and shut-ins in the Manly
area.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Jane Harang of Chicago,
Ill., Sharon Kay Peterson and her husband, Chuck, of Northfield,
Minn., and Mary Lynne Swartwood and her husband, Rodger, of Henderson,
Texas; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bernard (Shirley) Carroll of
Mason City; six grandchildren, Kevin C. Harang of Glenview, Ill,
Cindy K. Schamp of Corvallis, Ore., Timothy C. Peterson of Golden
Valley, Minn., Lorie Lynne Cox of Kilgore, Texas, Wanda Fae May
of Kilgore, Texas, and Susan Marie Carroll of Mason City; six
great-grandchildren, Christopher Luke and Kelly Ann Harang, both
of Glenview, Ill., Michael Jacob Schamp of Corvallis, Ore., Nicole
Bethany and Holly Shannon Cox, both of Kilgore, Texas, and Madison
Paige May of Kilgore, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Homer (Ruth)
Johnson of Mason City, Vivan Dahl and her husband, Hubert, of
Winterset, and Mrs. Leon (Kathryn) Wise of Plymouth, and one
brother, Orval C. Miller and his wife, Delores, Plymouth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harmon;
two sons, Bernard Ray and Marvin Lee Carroll; one brother, Cleo
Miller, and one sister, Flossie Miller.

Marie C. Mitchell, 88, of 95 Cedar Terrace N., died Saturday
(Dec. 23, 1995) at  Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday
at  Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur of  First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) officiating.

The Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., is in charge
of arrangements.

Marie Cleone Mitchell was born Dec. 20, 1906, in Charles City.

Survivors include one daughter, Doris Fenholt of Charles City;
six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-
grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband,
her second husband, one daughter and two brothers.

Ethel M. Luker, 83, of 1623 S. Carolina Ave., died Saturday
(Dec. 23, 1995) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at  Bethlehem
Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick
Wood officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer
Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services
at the church on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to  Bethlehem Lutheran Church
in memory of Ethel M. Luker.

Ethel M. Luker was born May 28, 1912, in rural Milford, a daughter
of Jeddie and Margaret (Lambertus) Stinehart.

She married Arnold Luker on Dec. 28, 1941, in Mason City.

Ethel grew up and attended school near Milford. Her family moved
to Mason City in 1928.

She was a homemaker and did day work for many people.

She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She
was a very caring and loving person to her family and friends.

Ethel was a 75-year member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and
a member of the Altar Guild.

Survivors include her husband, Arnold Luker of Mason City; two
sons, Leland Ames and his wife, Audrey, of Bedford, Ind., and
Norm Luker and his wife, Twila, of Mason City; five grandchildren,
Cory Ames of Wichita, Kan., Jeffrey Ames of Bedford, Ind., Lorri
Caster of Des Moines, Deanna Loeschen of Woden and Scott Palmer
of Fort Campbell, Ky; three great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Orville Stinehart and his wife, Dolores, of Clear Lake, and Alfred
Stinehart and his wife, Opal, of Mason City; three sisters, June
Stinehart of Mason City, Lea Morische and her husband, Gene,
of Nora Springs, and Betty Schulte and her husband, Robert, of
West Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen
Barnhill.

Donald Reinold Simpson
SONOMA, Calif.  

Donald Reinold Simpson of Sonoma, Calif., formerly of Mason
City, Iowa, died of a heart attack in Sonoma on Wednesday (Dec.
20, 1995) at the age of 69.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Don was born in Galt, Iowa, to Leo and Minnie Simpson on Aug.
23, 1926.

When he was 11, his family relocated to California. He was a
member of the football team at the Sonoma Valley High School
and graduated from there in 1944. In 1994, Don participated in
the school's celebration of the team's 50th year anniversary,
including a homecoming parade and introduction of team members.

Upon high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Army  with
his best friends, Emile Ricci and Charles Bishop. His tour of
duty included serving in the Philippines during 1945.

After his honorable discharge in 1946, he briefly  spent time
in California before returning to Iowa where he married his former
wife, the late Maxine Simpson.

While in Iowa, he spent more than 30 years as a general contractor,
establishing Simpson Construction in 1955.

He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of
Christ and the American Legion, and was active in numerous community
organizations,  including Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts
of the United States of America.

Don returned to California in 1982, where he married his present
wife, Doris, in 1985.

While in California, he was a skilled craftsman at the Santa
Rosa Junior College before retiring in 1992.

He was an avid fisherman. His fishing highlights were with Alex
and Matthew, his two oldest grandsons, on annual trips to the
Midwest, with his Iowa fishing buddies on annual trips to Canada
for the last 15 years, and

ly with his son-in-law and grandson, Drew and Kyle Clyde.

He was also an avid fan of baseball and tennis, all of which
he had lettered in during high school.

Don loved playing golf, traveling, working on his wood crafting
hobby and spending quality time with his grandchildren.

In Sonoma, he was a member of the First Congregational Church,
the Sonoma High School Booster Club, the Sonoma Valley Rock and
Mineral Society and various other civic organizations.

Survivors include his best friend, adoring and loving wife,
Doris, of Sonoma, Calif.; daughters, Nancy Simpson of Shiloh,
Ohio, Beck Simpson of Coffeyville, Kan., and Karen Clyde of Sonoma,
Calif.; sons, Scott Simpson of Rockford, Ill., Loren Rogers of
Richland, Wash., and Randy Rogers of Benecia, Calif.; the children's
respective spouses; and seven grandchildren, Matthew, Michael
and Marissa Simpson of Rockford, Ill,, Alex Covick and Andrea
Bunt of Shiloh, Ohio, and Kyle and Collin Clyde of Sonoma, Cailf.;
one brother, Roland Simpson of Napa, Calif.; and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.

Don was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Simpson of
Napa and Clarence Dick of Santa Rosa, Calif.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20,
at  First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St.
N.E., Mason City, Iowa.

The family prefers that memorials be made to the Sonoma Valley
High School Booster Club, attention Don DuPort, president, 20000
Broadway, Sonoma, Calif. 95476, the Diabetes Association or a
charity of the donor's choice.

Elsa Stanton
GREENE 

A funeral Mass for Mrs. Elsa Stanton, 60, of 703 Park St.,
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Greene with the Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial
will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at Reid's
Funeral Chapel in Greene where the family will receive friends
from 7 until 9 p.m. There will be a public scriptural wake service
at 7 p.m.

Elsa Theresa Wendlinger was born on Feb. 22, 1935, in Bruckmuhl,
Germany, a daughter of Ludwig and Rosina (Bast) Wendlinger, and
died Saturday (Dec. 23, 1995) at her home in Greene after a lengthy
battle with cancer.

She received her education at a Catholic parochial school in
Germany from which she graduated in 1949.

Following graduation she was employed at an air base, at area
farms and at a nursery where she developed skills she kept throughout
her life.

In 1959 she married an American serviceman, Willis Groff, in
Germany, where  they lived until he was transferred to the United
States in 1968.

They became parents of two children, Heidemarie and Peter Lee.
Mr. Groff died in 1970 in Northwood, Iowa. Elsa and her children
continued to live in Northwood.

On June 9, 1973, she was united in marriage to Charles Stanton
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

The couple moved to their home in Greene where they had lived
since that time, and to this union was born a son, Michael, in
September of 1974.

Elsa loved life and lived it well, giving love and service to
many. She loved her family and enjoyed special times with her
grandchildren. She had a strong faith in God.

She was proud of her German heritage, which was reflected in
the decorations in her home. She planned and carried out the
planting of trees and flowers in her yard and her garden so they
left an impression of Germany.

She traveled to Germany many times, twice with Charles, mostly
recently in May.

A special activity for Elsa and Charles was hosting an exchange
student from Germany, Gerhard Ilg, in 1991-92. They became close,
and Charles and Elsa exchanged visits with Gerhard and his parents.
Gerhard came for a visit in October.

Elsa had many hobbies, including raising flowers and making
dolls and other crafts. She also enjoyed cooking and often took
food to shut-ins and helped them in other ways as well.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene and
for several years took care of the altar flowers and holiday
decorations for the church. She was active in a group of German
women who live in this area, and she organized and was active
in a birthday group in her neighborhood.

Elsa is survived by her loving husband, Charles, of Greene;
her daughter, Heidemarie, and her husband, Douglas Warner, of
Owatonna, Minn.; and two sons, Peter Groff of Minneapolis and
Michael Stanton at home; three grandchildren, Kirsten, Ryan and
Bret Warner of Owatonna; three sisters, Lisa and her husband,
Dan Barros, of Greene, and Maria Minge and Rosa Wendlinger, both
of Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Kurbinian,
and a nephew, Thomas Barnes.

Those planning an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers,
may direct memorials to the Heart to Home Hospice in care of
the family.

Marie Lucille McKim
MASON CITY  

Marie Lucille McKim, 81, of Lander, Wyo., formerly of Mason
City, died Friday (Dec. 22, 1995) at Westward Height Care Center,
Lander.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at  Hogan
Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Herbert
G. Shafer of Grace United Methodist  Church officiating. Burial
will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the funeral chapel,
and continue until time of services on Wednesday.

Marie Lucille McKim was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Valentine, Neb.,
daughter of Robert and Mary Helen (Feehan) Williams. She married
Clinton McKim on Sept. 6, 1932, in Butte, Neb.

Marie attended school in O'Neill, Neb., and graduated from O'Neill
High School in 1932. Her family followed construction.

Mr. McKim worked at the E.M. Duesenberg Construction Company
for more than 10 years. Mr. McKim died in 1976.

Marie enjoyed crocheting and embroidery work. She moved to Lander,
Wyo., in March of 1989 to be near her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Duckert of Lander,
Wyo., Pat Ulrich of Mason City and Janet Boehmer and her husband,
Daniel, of Salt Lake City, Utah; three sons, Clinton McKim and
his wife, Donna Mae, and Robert McKim and his wife, Diane, both
of Lander, Wyo., and George McKim and his wife, Penny, of Waltman,
Wyo.; one sister, Genevieve Olsen of Portland, Ore.; one brother,
Robert Williams, of Troutdale, Ore.; and nine grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.

Mr. George A. Hill, 72, of 1811 S. Harding Ave., died Sunday
(Dec. 24, 1995) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa
City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Evangelical
Free Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Larry Yeoman officiating.
Interment will be in Grant Center Township Cemetery, rural Fertile.
Military honors will be provided by the Mason City Veterans Memorial
Association.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and will
continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the George A. Hill Memorial
Fund.

George was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Green Mountain, rural Marshall
County, the son of Charlie and Vernal (Randall) Hill. He graduated
from Ventura High School in 1941.

George served in the United States Navy during World War II
as a signalman. He married Merridy Zirbel on May 23, 1945, in
Clear Lake. He worked for Marigold Dairy as a milkman in wholesale
and retail in the Mason City area. He retired after 25 years
of service, in 1984. He drove a school bus for Huffman Transportation
in Mason City from 1992-95. He was a bus aide for the Head Start
program.

George's hobbies included bowling and golf. He was a member
of the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake, the Mason City
V.F.W. Post and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Merridy Hill of Mason City; four
children, Linda Clausen and her husband, Michael of Mason City,
Gloria Hill of Waterloo, Randy Hill of Charlotte, N.C., and Scott
Hill of Charles City; three grandchildren, Michaelle Bahnsen
and her husband, Brian of Des Moines, Brent Clausen and his wife,
Shelly of Sheffield, and Josh Clausen of Mason City; three
great-grandchildren,
Alyson Clausen, Hunter Clausen and Joseph Bahnsen; a brother,
Richard Hill and his wife, Ruth of Clear Lake; a sister, Dorothy
Gobeli of Clear Lake; two sisters-in-law, Madeline Hill of Waterloo,
and Charlotte Hill of Ventura; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Zirbel
and his wife, Kit of Clear Lake, and Leverne Nelson of Fertile.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl

Ruth E. Carson, 88, of 602 Conn St., Parkersburg, Iowa, died
of natural causes Monday (Dec. 25, 1995) at Sartori Memorial
Hospital, Cedar Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Kaiser-Corson
Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with the Rev. James R. Beranek officiating.
Burial will follow at Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Visitation was held from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and will be
held an hour before services today at the funeral home.

A memorial fund is being established.

Ruth E. Carson was born Oct. 18, 1907, in Klemme.

Survivors include her husband, Don Carson of Parkersburg; three
sisters, Doris Back of Klemme, Ethel Steffen of Waterloo, and
Bertha Johnson of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one
brother in infancy.

Hazel E. Hill
MANLY  

Hazel E. Hill, 94, died Tuesday (Dec. 26, 1995) at the I.O.O.F.
Home, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bethel
United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Poulsen officiating.
Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bride Colonial
Chapel, 110 East Spring St., and one hour prior to service time
on Thursday at the church.

The family of Hazel Ellen Hill has requested that memorial contributions
be made to the Hazel Hill Memorial Fund in her memory.

Hazel Ellen Hill was born on Sept. 1, 1901, in Cerro Gordo County,
to Thomas and Edith C. (McHenry) Jenkins. She lived most of her
life in Cerro Gordo County. After graduating from Nora Springs
High School she took six weeks of normal training at Cedar Falls
and was a rural school teacher in Cerro Gordo and Worth counties.
She helped care for her younger brothers and sisters after the
early death of her father.

On June 19, 1928, she was united in marriage to George A. Hill
of rural Manly. He preceded her in death in December 1977. After
their marriage she and her husband farmed 48 years in Cerro Gordo
County on the same farm. She remained on that same farm for some
time after George passed away, until recently when she moved
to the care center. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist
Church in Manly, where she and her sister, Mina, organized the
Willing Workers Circle.

Her love for her family was shown in many ways, through a welcome
smile when visitors came to her home, the sewing and crocheting
that she gave as gifts, her foods she shared. She never complained
and did not have a cross word for anyone, but had a subtle humor
and wit about her. She had been an avid reader in her day and
could make numbers dance at the end of her pencil. She raised
her niece, Audrey, as a daughter when Audrey's parents died.
She also wrote a cookbook and had it published in 1985.

Surviving are her three children, daughter, Ellen Harris, son
David and special friend, Bev Cecil of Mason City, and daughter,
Audrey Webb of Clear Lake; grandchildren include Rex Harris and
his wife, Marjorie of Wichita, Kan., Ross Harris and his wife,
Liz of Edina, Minn., Hugh Webb and his wife, Marie of Clear Lake,
Greg Webb and his wife, Sherri of Iowa Falls, Sarah Hill-Cole
and her husband, Jeff of Iowa City, Stephen Hill and his wife,
Tammy of Manly, Edie Hill of Mason City, and Catherine Berndt
and her husband, John of Manly; great-grandchildren include Andrew
and Rachel Harris, Blake and Brook Webb, Briana, Houston and
Harrison Webb, Jackson and Colin Heneman, and Marissa Hill. Also
surviving are sister, June C. Tietjens, three sisters-in-law,
Hazel Jenkins of Northwood, Viv Jenkins of Spencer and Clarice
Jenkins of Corinth, Ky.; a step-brother, Earl Church and his
wife, Zelda of Eugene, Ore.; two step-sisters-in-law, Ruth Church
of Orlando, Fla., and Lula Elner of Minneapolis, Minn. Many nieces
and nephews also survive as well as devoted neighbors and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents,
Thomas and Edith Jenkins; her step-father, Norman Church; her
brothers, Harold, Ernie and Earl Jenkins; her sister, Mina; her
step-brothers, Fern and Harvey Church; a step-sister, Lillian
Cornell; daughter-in-law, Dorothy (Strand) Hill; and a son-in-law,
Harold Webb.

Morris Lievrouw, 84, died Sunday (Dec. 24, 1995) at the Mitchell

Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Visitation will be held beginning at 4 p.m. today at the Champion
Funeral Home, Osage.

Morris Lievrouw was born Jan. 11, 1911, in Denterghen, Belgium.

Survivors include his wife, Georgie Lievrouw of Mitchell; one
daughter, Peggy Freeman of Osage; one son, David Lievrouw of
Mitchell; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, three brothers
and three sisters.

Kermit K. Koerner
KLEMME  

Kermit Kenneth Koerner, 85, son of Albert and Lillie (Lau) Koerner,
was born Jan. 27, 1910, in Klemme.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United
Methodist Church, Klemme, with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating.
Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery with military rites
conducted by the Klemme V.F.W.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the
Tenold Funeral Home, Klemme, and will continue one hour prior
to services at the church on Thursday.

Kermit's parents operated the Koerner Telephone Company from
1901-1927. He helped with the business as long as he was at home.
Kermit graduated in 1927 and enrolled in college in Ames. After
college, he worked for the Rock Island Railroad as a track repairman
until he enlisted in the Army as an airplane mechanic.

Kermit returned to Klemme and helped at the Slippery Elm Golf
Course and enjoyed playing golf. While in Klemme, he lived with
his parents and helped his dad on the farm. They had a dairy
and delivered milk in Klemme.

After living in Klemme, Kermit moved to California. He worked
as a grounds keeper for the California School System for a few
years. He returned to Klemme and lived in the Klemme Apartments.

Kermit enjoyed walking and for a few years he walked at least
eight miles a day.

In 1994, Kermit suffered a stroke and never fully recovered,
but still maintained his love for life. He died on Saturday (Dec.
23, 1995) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters, Dolores Ridder,

George L. Holt was born on April 4, 1918, in Kinderhook, Ill.,
a son of Frank and Essie (Finley) Holt.

George was united in marriage to Almira Olson on April 25, 1944,
in Jewell.

They lived near Slater until moving to Garner in 1965 and then
to Story City in 1989.

They farmed near Slater and Garner, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Almira Holt of Story City; a son,
LeRoy Holt and his wife, Mary of Orange City; two daughters,
Elaine Kolkmann and her husband, Richard of Bloomington, Minn.,
and Janet Trentmann and her husband, Norm of Urbandale; seven
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Edna Balloun
of Atlanta, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Holt;
and two infant grandsons, Timothy and Anthony Holt.

Harry Boelman

Harry Boelman, 87, the son of Ben and Ella (Eckhoff) Boelman
was born Sept. 7, 1908 on a farm near Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First
Reformed Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating.
Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Tenold
Funeral Home, Belmond, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services.

He attended rural schools through the eighth grade. He was united
in marriage to Luella Dorenkamp on Jan. 29, 1937.

Harry was a member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey
and served as an Elder and Deacon on the church consistory. Throughout
his life Harry enjoyed farming and later worked for a lumberyard
in Belmond. After retirement he enjoyed tending his large garden
on the farm.

Harry died on Monday (Dec. 25, 1995) at his home in rural Belmond.

He is survived by three sons, Verlyn of Belmond, Arlyn of Ogden,
and Allyn of Algona; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Herman
(Hannah) Modderman of Hampton, Mrs. Grace Johnson of Meservey,
and Mrs. George (Emma) Wessels of Belmond; one brother, Donald
Boelman of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella; infant daughter,
Harriet; his parents; two sisters, Rena and Alice; and four brothers,
Henry, Ben, Andrew and Clarence.

Ruth Ellen Meek was born July 21, 1936, in Charles City, a daughter
of John and Mary (Marzen) Meek, and died Wednesday (Dec. 27,
1995) at the Hospice Unit of the Floyd County Memorial Hospital
in Charles City of cancer.

She received her education at the Sacred Heart Academy in Greene
and later attended Greene High School, graduating in 1954.  She
was united in marriage to Edward William Heitland on May 6, 1955,
at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene.  For most of their married
life they had lived in Greene, with the exception of two years,
when they lived in Charles City.  To this union six children
were born.

Ruth was employed by the Candle Shop in Greene for several years
before she and Ed opened Heitland's Gas and Grocery in 1975,
which they operated for three years.  Ruth was last employed
by B & W Foods in Greene.

She was a life-long faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Greene and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas
and St. Joseph Circle.  She was a member of the Historical Society,
Card Club and the Legion Auxiliary.

Ruth was a loving mother and grandmother who put her family
first.  In her spare time she enjoyed crafts, crocheting, quilting
and antiques.  She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was an avid
Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings fan.

Living family members include her loving husband of 40 years,
Ed, of Greene; four daughters, Vanda and her husband, Mike McRoberts,
of Cedar Falls, Vicki Heitland of Mason City, Vonnie and her
husband, Jim Johns, of Freeport, Ill., and Crystal Heitland of
Mason City; two sons, Monty and his wife, Betty Heitland, of
Greene, and Kevin and his wife, Kathy Heitland, of Nixa, Mo.;
seven granddaughters, Jessie McRoberts, Mikka McRoberts, Lindsay
Heitland, Kayla Heitland, Monica Johns, Megan Johns and Amy Heitland;
four sisters, Virginia and her husband, Jim Reams, of Charles
City, Shirley and her husband, Howard Schlangen, of Lime Springs,
Faith and her husband, Paul Porter, of Bellevue, Neb., and Bonnie
Lynch of Greene; three brothers, John and his wife, Lois Meek,
and Wayne and his wife, Henrietta Meek, all of Greene, and Donald
and his wife, Cheryl, of Charles City; and a brother-in-law,

JoAnn was born Oct. 22, 1935, in Plymouth, a daughter of Joseph
and Myrtle (Bork) Martinie.  She graduated from Mason City High
School.

JoAnn was united in marriage to ElRoy A. Ellingson on Dec. 28,
1954, in Mason City.  She worked for Blinder Motors from 1953
to 1967, when they moved to Kiester, Minn.  JoAnn and ElRoy owned
and operated the Kiester Food Market for 20 years.  They moved
to St. Louis Park, Minn., where JoAnn worked for Gittleman's
as an on-site building manager for seven years.  She was a member
of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Kiester, and the Kiester Legion
Auxiliary.  She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed reading,
crocheting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, ElRoy, of St. Louis Park, Minn.;
son Craig Ellingson of Forest City; daughters, Robyn and her
husband, Jeff Wacholz, of Mansfield, Minn., and Mary Jo Ellingson
of Marshall, Minn.; three special grandchildren, Hilary, Ron
and Spencer Wacholz; one sister, Zelda and her husband, Alan
Groh of Manly; mother-in-law, Selma Ellingson of Kiester, Minn.;
two sisters-in-law, Gilma and her husband, Eldo Oppedahl, of

Melford Howard Teslow was born in Decorah on April 17, 1913,
to Hans and Magda (Moe) Teslow.  He was baptized and confirmed
at First Lutheran Church in Decorah and graduated from high school
in 1931.

On June 20, 1940, he was married to Palma J. Kolseth in Waukon.
Mel served in the U.S. Air Force from September, 1942, to June,
1944.  He was through five flight schools and held a commercial
pilot's license.

While living in Decorah, Mel was on the fire department for
20 years.  After living in California for four years, the couple
returned to Decorah where Mel worked with his brother as DeSoto-
Plymouth dealers.  In 1958, Mel and Palma moved to Forest City
and began operating the Chevrolet-Olds franchise until Mel retired
in 1976, selling to Ron Lichtsinn.  The highlight of Mel's day was
coffee with his coffee group.  In his earlier years he had enjoyed
traveling, hunting, fishing and golf.

Mel was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he had served
on the council for two years.  He also was commander of the American
Legion in Decorah, a member of the Elks Lodge for 47 years, and
the Lions Club for four years.  He was a board member for the
Forest City Hospital for 11 years.

Mel and Palma enjoyed spending their winters at their home in
Mesa, Ariz., for the past 18 years.  Mel died at Mesa General
Hospital in Mesa on Dec. 25, 1995, at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by his wife, Palma Teslow of Forest City; a daughter
and son-in-law, Pamela and Bruce Bell of Littleton, Colo.; a
brother, Harold Teslow of Decorah; and a sister, Mrs. Stella
Heggen of Decorah.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marion
Stephani.

Donald E. Deardeuff, 68, of 5 Willowbrook Drive, died Tuesday
(Dec. 26, 1995) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Community Church with the Rev. Mark Culham and the Rev. Steve
Hollingsworth officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph
Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major-Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and will continue one
hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Don was born Aug. 30, 1927, in rural Cerro Gordo County, a son
of John and Ada (Butcher) Deardeuff. He  attended and graduated
from Rockwell High School in 1945.

Don served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving
an honorable discharge in 1947.  He married Maxine Carpenter
on Oct. 30, 1948, in Mason City.

Don farmed in the Rockwell area for over 50 years.  In 1990,
Don and Maxine moved to Mason City, where Don worked part-time
for Younkers and United Oil Mart.  Don was an active member of
the Hanford Community Church, holding several leadership positions
there.  He was a past board member of the Rockwell Elevator,
Midland Co-op and the Rockwell Phone Co. and was a member of
the Rockwell Lions Club.  Don enjoyed spending time with his
grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Mason City; one daughter,
Donna Emhoff and her husband, James, of Sheffield; three grandchildren,
Jesse, Nicholas and Jacob; three sisters, Arlene Van Sabben and
Doris Janssen and her husband, Benjamin, all of Northwood, and
Marjorie Evans and her husband, Lewaine, of Mason City; one brother,
Leslie Deardeuff and his wife, Joan,  of Rockwell; a special
double cousin, Clarence Deardeuff and his wife, Mavis, of Mason
City; and several nieces and nephews.

Beulah R. Whiteis was born on a farm in Worth County, near Joice,
on Sept. 19, 1908, a daughter of Lewis and Millie (Thompson)
Dakin.  She graduated from Lake Mills High School and received
her normal teaching certificate.  For two years she taught at
a Linden Township rural school.

She was married to Robert C. Whiteis on May 15, 1928, in Garner.
The couple made their home in Forest City their entire married
lives, where Mr. Whiteis operated an auto dealership with his
father.

Beulah was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She taught Sunday school and took part in many women's circle
activities.  She was also an officer in the Forest City Women's
Club, the women's Republican organization and the Forest City
Hospital Auxiliary.  She was a devoted and loving mother and
grandmother.  She was an excellent cook and a wonderful friend
to the children in her neighborhood.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Gilbert and her husband,
Harry, of Brown Deer, Wis.; one son, Richard Whiteis and his
wife, Kathy, of Temecula, Calif.; one brother, Gordon Dakin and
his wife, Avis, of Joice; seven grandchildren; and nine great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died
on Jan. 23, 1984; a son, Robert Whiteis Jr., who died on Nov.

Crystal E. Lichman was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Orchard, a daughter
of George and Maud Follmuth.  She grew up in Orchard and graduated
from Mason City High School, Mason City Junior College, and she
obtained her teaching certificate.  Crystal taught kindergarten
and first grade in Nora Springs for many years and she also taught
special education classes in Osage and Mason City.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, music and gardening.  She
was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell.

Survivors include two daughters, Kristie Perez of Rolla, Mo.,
and Cheri Colombo of Mason City; one son, Peter Lichman of Warsaw,
Mo.; four grandchildren, Derek Perez of Rolla, Mo., Tomie Colombo

Darlene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ackley.
 Special activities included Chapter BN P.E.O., ``A'' Bridge
Club, Presbyterian Women and Ladies Aid.  She was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother, and she was a gifted artist.  She enjoyed
writing poetry and short stories.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; four daughters, Cindy
Krumm and her husband, Dave, of Center Point, Candy Betts and
her husband, Lynn, of Urbandale, Tracy Worley and her husband,
Tom, of Rockwell, and Kim Thuente and her husband, Neal, of Johnston;
grandchildren, Melissa, Brian and Angela Krumm, Jennifer and
Nathan Betts, Beau Stubbe, Lindsay and Kayla Worley, and Joseph,
Charles and Molly Thuente; one brother, Minor Dix and his wife,
Audrey, of Greene; and two sisters, Dawn Cheney and her husband,
Paul, and Twila Smith and her husband, Duane, all of Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kermit Dix;

Maxine was born Sept. 18, 1926, in New Richland, Minn., the
daughter of Jesse and Grace (Karpa) Carpenter.  Maxine attended
Mason City schools and worked briefly at Jacob E. Decker and
Sons and Mercy Hospital.  She married Donald E. Deardeuff on
Oct. 30, 1948, in Mason City.  Maxine worked alongside her husband,
Don, on the farm for over 40 years.  She was a member of Hanford
Community Church, Bath Homemakers, and enjoyed spending time
with her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Emhoff and her husband,
James, of Sheffield; grandchildren, Jesse, Nicholas and Jacob;
and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don,
who died on Tuesday (Dec. 26, 1995); daughters, Jan Marie and
Nancy Kay, and an infant daughter at birth; and three brothers,

Mason City in 1951.  Marlys was a member of the Birthday Club
along with many of her friends.  She enjoyed her grandchildren,
crocheting, traveling, ceramics and her flower garden.

Linda Renae Brunsvold, 40, of rural Kensett, died Thursday (Dec.
28, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 1995,
at the Church of Christ, 3493 Eagle Avenue, Fertile, with the
Rev. Dennis Ganz, officiating. Following cremation, burial will
take place at a later date.

Linda Brunsvold was born in Mason City on Sept. 3, 1955, the
daughter of Curtis and Gwen (Lien) Ouverson.

She graduated from Forest City High School in 1973. She also
attended North Iowa Area Community College.

Linda was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Fertile,
and was baptized on Oct. 13, 1966.

Linda married Harold N. (Sonny) Brunsvold on March 25, 1978,
in Fertile. They lived and farmed in rural Kensett their entire
married lives.

Linda loved her family dearly and that love was returned in
full measure. She also enjoyed the farm life that they all shared
together.

Linda's battle with cancer exemplified her  courage, love of
life, and faith in the Lord, to all who witnessed it. She will
be sorely missed by her family and friends, but remembered and
loved by all.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Brunsvold, Kensett; four
daughters, Alissa, Briana, Callie, and Shaina, all of Kensett;
her parents, Curtis and Gwen Ouverson, of Clear Lake; one brother,
Lowell Ouverson and his wife, Susan and their daughter, Amanda

and Lillian (Abele) Griffen.  He graduated from Garner High School

Korean War.  On Oct. 5, 1984, he married Charolette Lackey in
Des Moines.

He had been a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Charolette of Des Moines; three
stepchildren, Elizabeth Cuce and her husband, Vince, of Carrollton,
Texas, Roy Lackey and his wife, Renea, of Spring, Texas, and
Ann Lackey and her fiance, Oliver Allet, of Palm Springs, Calif.;

Della M. Einen
GREENE 

Funeral services for Della Marie Einen, 100, of Greene, will
be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996, at Reid's Funeral Chapel
in Greene with the Rev. Galen Smith of the First Presbyterian
Church of Greene officiating.  Burial will be in the Riverside
Cemetery in Madelia, Minn.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral

Della Marie Cooling  was born June 21, 1895, in Ceresco Township,
Blue Earth County, Minn., the daughter of George Washington and
Mariette (Mead) Cooling, and died Saturday (Dec. 30, 1995) at
the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City having
attained the advanced age of 100 years, six months and nine days.

She received her education in the Ceresco Township School and
in 1911, she and her family moved into Madelia, Minn., where
she completed her high school education graduating in 1913. 
As a young lady, she worked for the Madelia Times Messenger before
enrolling for a term at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
She then attended Mankato Commercial College where she graduated
in 1916.  For a short time she worked at the bank in Madelia
and then became employed by the C.S. Christensen Flour Mills
in Madelia as an office worker.  During World War II, she was
involved with the Red Cross and was an active volunteer toward
the war effort.

On June 21, 1920, she was united in marriage to Arthur Emil
"Spin" Einen at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Madelia.  Shortly
after their marriage they moved to Mason City, Iowa, where he
was a salesman for Madelia's Best Flour and she was employed
at American Sugar Co. as an executive secretary for Mr. William
Baird Sr.  Two years later they returned to Madelia where they
were managers of the Christensen Flour Mills.  In 1929, they
moved to Fairmont, Minn., where they lived for 14 months and
then moving to Cedar Rapids where Mr. Einen was employed as sales
manager for Cities Service Oil Co.  In 1947, Mr. and Mrs. Einen
were transferred to St. Paul, Minn.  During this time she became
interested in painting and sketching and attended art classes
at the University of Minnesota.  During the next two decades
she completed scores of paintings of scenes of Minnesota and
surrounding states.

In later years, Della and Spin enjoyed their cabin on Lake Pokegama
and traveling.  Mr. Einen died on Jan. 18, 1961.  In October
1963, she moved to Greene to live nearby her daughter.  During
this time she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States
and Hawaii and made two trips overseas.  In June 1983, she entered
the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City due to
her failing eyesight.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene,
member of the United Presbyterian Women, 50-year member of the
Eastern Star and member of the O.E.S. Club, member of Chapter
CC P.E.O. Sisterhood, Ladies Embroiderly Club, former member
of the Greene Women's Club and the Minnesota Artist Association.

Living family members include her daughter, Mariette Reid of
Greene; two grandchildren, Elizabeth M. and her husband, Sam
Lazio of Davenport, and John A. "Jack" and his wife, Marilyn
Reid of Greene; five great-grandchildren, Joseph Samuel and Mark
Andrew Lazio of Davenport, Kelly James and wife, Shirley Thompson
of Waterloo, Heidi Lynn Reid and Kathryn Anne Reid, both of Greene.
 She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son in 1922;
her husband; a brother, Lloyd E. Cooling; and a son-in-law, Andrew
Reid in 1988.

Alice was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Yankton, S.D., the daughter
of Benjamin and Dolphie (Pecenka) Horacek.  Alice married Philip
Thompson on April 4, 1956, at Yankton.  The Thompson's moved
to Mason City in 1969.  In 1984, Alice went to work for St. Joseph's
Mercy Hospital and retired in 1993.

She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and
enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling, bowling, golfing and working
in the yard.

Survivors include six children, Cecilia Thompson of Minneapolis,
Minn., Ann Selva and husband, Gary of Eagan, Minn., Michael Thompson
of Grundy Center, Monica Winters and husband, Ryan of Hampton,

graduating from Windom High School.  She was united in marriage
to Ruben Kanzenbach on Sept. 25, 1936, in Brainerd, Minn.  He
preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1985.  After their marriage,
they moved to the Grafton area and then moved to Albert Lea,
Minn., where she worked at various jobs in Albert Lea and lived
there 20 years, moving to South Dakota, Madelia, Minn., Salem,
Ore. then moving to Wadena, Minn. in 1993.

She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, listening and playing religious
songs on the piano, crafts, cooking, gardening and flowers; but
her great love and enjoyment was her grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.

She was a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton,
and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minn.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Kanzenbach and his wife,
Kathleen, Wells, Minn., and Byron Kanzenbach and his wife, Barbara,
Salem, Ore.; one daughter, Ardith Amundson and her husband, Douglas,
Sebeka, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one
sister, Mary Marvin, Albuquerque, N.M.; numerous nieces and nephews;
as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents;
one son, Melvin Kanzenbach; one daughter, Myrtle Kanzenbach;
two grandsons, Daniel and Michael Kanzenbach; one great-granddaughter,
Carley Fern Amundson; four sisters, and three brothers.
