ViLetta Benton, 81, of Rowan, died Wednesday (Dec. 6, 1995)
at Clarion Community Hospital, Latimer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today at the Immanuel
Evangelical Lutheran Church, east of Clarion, with the      
Rev. Neil Heayen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland
Cemetery, Rowan.

Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, is in charge of the arrangements.

ViLetta Benton was born June 12, 1914 in Latimer.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Ann Fink of Rowan and
Carla Rae Pallas of Sioux City; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister,
one son, and one grandson.

John P. Klassen, 95, of Riceville, formerly of Elma, died Friday
(Dec. 8, 1995) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Elma, with the Rev. Roger
R. Rethamel officiating..  Burial will be at Clear Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Monday at Conway Funeral Home, Elma,
with a 7 p.m. scripture service.

John P, Klassen was born Aug. 24, 1900, in Chickasaw County.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Klassen of Riceville; two
daughters, Evelyn Gabby, Osage, and Marilou Friedrichs, Clear
Lake; three sons, Jerald Klassen, Charles City, Robert Klassen,
Ventura, and John Klassen, Alborn, Minn.; and 29 grandchildren,
58 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Violet
in 1974; two infant children; five sisters, Marie Heit, Susie
Diesburg, Lucy Koenigsfeld, Clara Koenigsfeld and Rose Faust;
three brothers, Matt,  William, and Leo; one grandchild and one
great-grandchild.

MASON CITY  

Lucille M. ``Lucy'' Studt, 67, of 1822 Springview Dr., died
Thursday (Dec. 7, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran
Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils C. ``Chris''
Hellevik officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 119 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and until time of service
Monday at the church.

In memory of Lucy, memorials will be used at Trinity Lutheran
Church.

Lucille M. ``Lucy'' Studt was born April 8, 1928, in Albert
Lea, Minn., the daughter of Bennie and Nanda (Bagassen) Skaug.
Lucy was baptized and confirmed at Central Freeborn Lutheran
Church, Albert Lea.  She attended rural schools through the eighth
grade then graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1946.  She
worked as a secretary for the Credit Bureau of Albert Lea from
1946-1951.  She married Gilman Olsen Jr. on June 2, 1951, at
Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, Albert Lea.  Mr. Olsen died
in 1957.

Lucy was also employed by Empire Mutual Insurance Co., Albert
Lea.  She married Dale Studt on July 1, 1961, at First Lutheran
Church, Albert Lea, where she taught Sunday school.  They moved
to Charles City where Lucy was an active member of St. John's
Lutheran Church.  In January 1973, they moved to Mason City where
Lucy enjoyed her home, family, traveling, collecting antiques
and dolls.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active
in Crossway Bible Study, Mission Circle, and church bazaar. She
also was a member of Questers and the Antique Study Club.

Survivors include her husband, Dale M. Studt of Mason City;
two daughters, Laurel Lagoni and husband, Pete, Fort Collins,
Colo., and Lynn Brockman and husband, Curtis, Marshalltown; four
grandchildren, Bryn and Kaia Lagoni and Laurie and Lisa Brockman;
her mother, Nanda Skaug, Albert Lea, Minn.; one sister, Lorraine
Larson and husband, Don, Owatonna, Minn.; and many other relatives
and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father and her first husband.

Colleen Kay Broome

Colleen Kay Broome, 35, of Mason City, died Friday (Dec. 8,
1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995,
at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E.
The Rev. James E. Albertson, retired pastor of Friendship Haven,
Fort Dodge, will officiate.  Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph
Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral
chapel.

Memorials may be given to the Colleen Kay Broome Memorial Fund.

Thirty-five year old Colleen Kay Broome was born on Feb. 1,
1960, in Mason City, the daughter of Duane and Janice (Albertson)
Broome.

Colleen attended schools in Mason City and Rock Valley.

Due to a serious illness in 1979, at the age of 19, Colleen
moved to Sioux City for long term dialysis treatment.  In Sioux
City, she attended the Concordia Lutheran Church and worked at
WACO.

With the opening of the dialysis center in Mason City, Colleen
moved to Nora Springs and lived with her mother, and just recently
moved to Mason City.  Colleen was employed by North Iowa Vocational
Center.

She loved square dancing, music, crafts and especially family
gatherings.

Colleen will be dearly missed by her mother, Janice Broome of
Nora Springs; one sister, Debby and her husband, Clarence Billick
of Staten Island, N.Y.; one brother, Wayne and his wife, Julie
of Mason City; one nephew, Shane, and five nieces, Cymbria, Tessa,
Tammy, Jamie and Cassie Jo.

officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Joe Dynes was born March 24, 1897, in Riceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gladys

Harvey Nelson was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Britt.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Nelson of Britt; one daughter,
Joellen Johnson, Kanawha; one son, Harvey Nelson, Fort Lauderdale,
Fla.; three sisters, Marie Vavrik, and Polly Drabek, both of
Britt, and Edith Huysing, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers,

Colo.; and three grandchildren.

Arthur T. Raduechel, 85, of Forest City, died Sunday (Dec. 10,
1995) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13,
at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg
officiating.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen
Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Arthur T. Raduechel was born May 12, 1910, in Bancroft, Neb.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Raduechel, Forest City; three
daughters, Carol Hink, Wall Lake, Mary Ann Meek, Denver, Colo.,
and Jane Clark, Eagan, Minn.; three sons, Dean Raduechel, Minneapolis,
Minn., Larry Raduechel, Eagan, Minn., and Darrell Raduechel,
Albia; five sisters, Lillian Therose, Oakdale, Neb., Leora McCormick,
Mesa, Ariz., Evelyn Volk, Norfolk, Neb., Dorothy Zieg, and Gladys
Myers, both of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren
and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one
son, an infant daughter, and three brothers.

J. C. `Clay' Hanson
CLEAR LAKE  

J. C. ``Clay'' Hanson, 80, of Clear Lake, died Sunday (Dec.
10, 1995) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1995,
at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with Larry Gilbert as officiant.
Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral
chapel.

J.C. ``Clay'' Hanson, the son of Chris and Martha Hanson, was
born March 17, 1915, at Garner.  After graduating from Garner
High School in 1933, he moved to California where he worked for
a tire repair service owned by George Wellik.  On Nov. 21, 1936,
he married Kathryn Elizabeth Gilbert at Long Beach, Calif.  The
couple made their home in Long Beach where they raised their
family.  In 1974, they moved to Clear Lake where Clay operated
Sunset Bay Boat Livery and also worked for his brother, ``Moose''
Hanson at Hanson Marina.

He is survived by a daughter, Ann Hanson, Downey, Calif.; a
son, Pete Hanson, Colfax, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Hanson on Oct.
21, 1995; his parents; a sister, Marvel Hanson; a brother, Erwin
``Moose'' Hanson; and a nephew, James Hanson.

Gail M. Nelson, 80, of 1619 Hillcrest Drive, died Friday (Dec.
8, 1995) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hogan-Bremer
Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Kathy Graves,
Director of Spiritual Care at Hospice of North Iowa, officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service Tuesday
at the funeral chapel.

Memorials may be given to the Gail M. Nelson Memorial Fund.

Gail M. Nelson was born Oct. 13, 1915, at Hanlontown, the 11th
daughter of Erick and Clara (Knudtson) Myli.  She married Alton
L. Nelson on Oct. 20, 1951, at Mason City.

Gail was baptized at Concordia Lutheran Church, Joice, and confirmed
at Hanlontown Lutheran Church.  She received her education at
a rural school in Worth County and was a graduate of Hanlontown
High School.  Following her graduation from Waldorf College,
she taught rural school west of Manly.  In her teaching career,
she also taught high school at Manly and Hampton.

She greatly enjoyed being with her family, music, gardening
and her cats throughout the years.

She is survived by one sister, Ethel Bergdale and her husband,
Alfred, Northwood, and 15 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alton
in 1991; nine sisters, Ruth Myli, Blanche Jensen, Hilma Myli,
Alva Myli, Ida Myli, Ida T. Stewart, Thelma Myli, Edna Bergdale,
Nina Felland; one niece and three nephews.

Heidi Jo Wiemann, 18, of 1551 Cardinal Ave., Meservey, died
Saturday (Dec. 9, 1995) at her home in Meservey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First
Reformed Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating.
Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grarup Funeral
Home, Meservey.

Heidi Jo Wiemann was born Nov. 14, 1977, in Belmond, the daughter
of Gordon and Judy (Darland) Wiemann.  She attended Meservey-Thornton
Elementary School and was to graduate from Sheffield-Chapin-Meservey-
Thornton
High School this spring.  Her activities in school included being
a homecoming queen candidate, president of the senior class,
captain of the girl's varsity basketball team, an active team
member on the girl's softball, track and volleyball teams along
with being a member of the yearbook staff.

Heidi's favorite color was blue and she enjoyed collecting
banks, playing golf, listening to country western music, spending
time with her friends and sharing her smile with those around
her.

Heidi worked as a clerk for the Wiemann Auction Co. and Sparbo
in Goodell packing eggs.  She was a member of the RCYF of the
First Reformed Church of Meservey.

She is survived by her parents, Gordon and Judy Wiemann of Meservey;
two sisters, Marcy Halfpop of Garner and Becky Formanek of Britt;
one brother, Gary Wiemann of Mason City; and her paternal grandmother,
Lyda Wiemann of Meservey.

Siara Sue Harrington, 2-day-old infant daughter of Stacy Skattebo
and Greg Harrington, died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 1995) at St. Francis
Hospital, La Crosse, Wis.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at St.
James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David
Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Angels, Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Zelda Wolfe was born Aug. 30, 1901, in Farnhamville.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty McCarthy of New Haven
and Audrey Hauser of Coralville; one son, Charles of Iowa City;
11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter,
one granddaughter, three brothers and four sisters.

Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services at the
funeral  home.

Doris G. Smith was born April 24, 1900, in Germania (Lakota),
Iowa.

Survivors include two nephews and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters

Home, and one hour before services at the church.

Jennie Wessels was born Oct. 6, 1897, near Cleves.

Survivors include her children, Valera Erickson of Prescott,
Ariz.; Raymond ``Pete'' Wessels of Buffalo Center; four grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Flora Westendorf of Manly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven sisters
and four brothers.

Frances Chase, 73, of 508 L St., died Saturday (Dec. 9, 1995)
at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hauser
Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Paul Phillips of
the Gospel Lighthouse at Floyd officiating. Burial will be in
the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m.
until time of service at the funeral home.

Frances Chase was born March 5, 1922, at New Providence.

Survivors include her husband, James, of Charles City; six daughters,
Shirley Wygle of Ionia; Mary Lockey of Waterloo; Sharon Stillions
of Orchard; Karen Wygle of Ackley; Ginger Putney of Clarion and
Patricia Spencer of Sheridan, Wyo.; a son, Michael of Sheridan,
Wyo.; a brother, Cecil Gibbs of Leesburg, Fla.; and two sisters,
Lucille Hughes of Dunnellon, Fla., and Pauline Wilkerson of Mount
Pleasant; 33 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son and one grandson.

Irma V. Ingebritson
LAKE MILLS  

Irma V. Ingebritson, 86, of 211 N. Mill, Lake Mills, died Sunday
(Dec. 10, 1995) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran
Church, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating.
Burial will be in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake
Mills, is in charge of arrangements.

Irma V. (Weed) Ingebritson was born July 13, 1909, in Lake Mills,
daughter of Walter M. and Addie (Anderson) Weed.

She attended grade school and high school in Lake Mills and
attended State Teachers College and graduated from Hamilton Business
College.

She worked in Weeds Jewelry Store with her parents, until she
met her husband, Al Ingebritson, and was married on Jan. 5, 1936.
They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this
January.

Their only child, Kay, was born in October of 1936 in Lake Mills.

In 1946, they assumed the responsibility of managing Weed's
Jewelry Store due to the ill health of her father, Walter. The
store remained in the family for over 50 years.

In 1959, they moved to Tucson, Ariz., and on to Torrance, Calif.
in 1962 and lived there until they returned to Lake Mills in
1978, where they presently reside.

Her family came first in her life and she enjoyed playing bridge.
She was an active member at Salem Lutheran Church, Circle, past
matron of the Order of Eastern Star and member of the Republican
Women's Club.

Irma is survived by her husband, Al, of Lake Mills; her daughter,
Kay and husband, Wayne Ganzel living in Columbia, Md.; granddaughter,
Kimberly and her husband, Roger Dwinell; and three great-grandchildren,

Cicelia Hedwig Volkman, 97, of Nora Springs, died Sunday (Dec.
10, 1995) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. at Nora Springs Christian
Church, 102 N. Hawkeye, with the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur officiating.
Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial
Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, and one hour prior to services
on Wednesday at the church.

Cicelia Hedwig Volkman was born May 2, 1898, in Nora Springs,
daughter of August Herman and Hedwig (Boettcher) Volkman.

She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1916 and was
a 1918 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls.

She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from
Drake University, Des Moines, in 1956.

The teaching profession was her chosen career. She taught school
46 years, 40 of them as a teacher in the Mason City School system.

Miss Volkman was a member of the former Evangelical United Brethern
Church in Nora Springs since she was 9 years old.

She served as church pianist, organist, choir member, Sunday
school teacher and youth leader.

She was a member of the Women's Society of World Service and
also of the Church Council of Administration. After the church
closed, she attended the Christian Church in Nora Springs.

Miss Volkman held membership in the Women's Christian Temperance
Union, the International Society of Christian Endeavor in Columbus,
Ohio, the Woman's Club in Mason City, the American Association
of University Women, the Iowa State Education Association, the
National and State Retired Teachers Association and the Mason
City Area Retired Teachers Association. She also was a member
of the Historial Committee in Nora Springs.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Volkman of
Mason City; a nephew, Charles Hagerman of West Des Moines; three
grand-nephews, Michael, Jeffrey, and Scott Hagerman; a great-grand-
niece;
a great-grand-nephew; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Alma
Hagerman; and one brother, Arnold August Volkman.

Kenneth Orin Haugen
NORTHWOOD 

Kenneth Orin Haugen, 76, of rural Northwood, died Sunday (Dec.
10, 1995) at 4318 Nuthatch Road, rural Northwood in Worth County
due to exposure to the weather.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elk Creek Lutheran
Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer ``Sam'' Hernes and
the Rev. Al Stoa, chaplain at the Lutheran Retirement Home in
Northwood, officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran
Church Cemetery, rural Kensett.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Conner Colonial
Chapel, 99-11th Street S., Northwood, and one hour prior to service
time on Wednesday at the church.

Kenneth Orin Haugen was born on June 28, 1919, in Worth County,
near Northwood on the family farm, the son of Knut and Olga (Olson)
Haugen.

He was baptized in 1919, and confirmed in 1934, at the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church, rural Kensett by the Rev. Thor Sigmond.

He attended and received his education in the Brookfield Township
School system, rural Northwood.

After completing his education, he helped on the family farm
until being inducted into the United States Army on July 4, 1942,
serving overseas with the 830th Eng. Bn. building airplane runways
during World War II. He received his honorable discharge on Oct.
12, 1945.

After his discharge from the service, he came back to the family
farm and by saving his money, he was able to buy his first John
Deere tractor and rented the Carl Myre farm.

After his Dad died, he continued to farm the family farm and
also other farms.

He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, machinery, going to steam shows
and having coffee at the Corner Post in Northwood with his friends.

He was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, former usher
and trustee.

Survivors include three sisters, Gilma Bothum of Austin, Minn.;
Phyllis Bruhn and her husband, LeRoy of St. Bonifacius, Minn.,
and Carol Thurlow and her husband, Stanley, of Wakefield, Kan.;
several nephews and nieces; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elaine
and Talora.

Clayton Arthur Anderson, 86, of Kensett, died Sunday (Dec. 10,
1995) at the Americana Health Care Center in Mason City.

will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

The family of Clayton Arthur Anderson has requested that memorial

Clayton Arthur Anderson was born March 24, 1909, in Northwood,
the son of Charles R. and Ida M. (Anderson) Anderson.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was
a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

He attended and received his education in the Grove Township
rural schools and was engaged in farming with his father until
he retired, moving to Kensett to live with his sister, Clarice
Perry. He later moved to an apartment in Kensett where he lived
until entering the Americana Health Care Center in Mason City
on June 1, 1995.

He enjoyed working with his hands, repairing lawn mowers and
loved farming.

Survivors include two brothers, Russell Anderson and his wife,
Pearl, of Northwood, and Chester Anderson of Kensett; two sisters,
Alice Whitcome of Northwood and Doris Barker of Burlington; another
sister-in-law, Irene Anderson of Northwood; as well as many nieces
and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glenn
Anderson; and one sister, Clarice Perry.

MASON CITY 

Michael K. Chase, 53, of 809 S. Carolina Ave., died Monday
(Dec. 11, 1995) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Michael K. Chase was born Jan. 9, 1942, the son of Edwin W.
and H. Joyce (McIntosh) Chase in Minneapolis, Minn.

Michael attended Mason City Schools.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in
1960.

Michael married Cheryl Osslund on Aug. 20, 1965.

Michael was well known and highly respected for his skills as
a crane operator throughout the United States.

He was an operating engineer for over 30 years with the l 49
Union of Minneapolis and the l 234 Union in Iowa.

He retired in 1991 due to ill health.

Survivors include his former wife, Cheryl Chase of Mason City;
three daughters, Kimberly Kline and her husband, Dennis, of Mason
City, Kellie Chase of Mason City, and Kristal Chase of Golden
Valley, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jason Kline, Brandon Kline
and Brooke Fuchs; one sister, Pam Loeckle and her husband, Dennis
of Mason City; one brother, Norman Joel Chase and his wife, Leota,
of Mason City; two aunts, Phyllis Creigh of Mason City and Delores
Smith and her husband, Leo J. of Stillwater, Minn.; and several
cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Nellie Marie Cutler, 96, of 305 N. Fifth
St., Greene, will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian
Church in Greene with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial
will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m. today  where there will
be a public Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. until noon
on Wednesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene. Visitation will

Nellie Marie Wilhelmina Wilke was born Sept. 27, 1899 near Montezuma,
a daughter of Fred and Eliza (Fleischman) Wilke and died Saturday
(Dec. 9, 1995) at the Franklin County General Hospital in Hampton.

As a young girl, she and her family moved to North Malcom and
in 1911 moved to the Aredale area where they purchased a farm
and she attended rural Butler County schools.

On Dec. 25, 1917, she was united in marriage to Clarence Cutler
at her parents home. To this union were born two children,  Edwin
Clarence and Leola Marie. Clarence and Marie farmed northwest
of Aredale until his death in 1961.

On July 24, 1962, she was married to Frank Cutler at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua. Following their marriage, they made their
home in Greene.

Frank and Marie traveled extensively throughout the United States,
Hawaii and Alaska. They also traveled to Mexico and Canada and
enjoyed fishing in Minnesota. Frank died May 21, 1987.

Marie continued to live in her home until suffering a stroke
three weeks ago. She kept in touch with her family and maintained
a journal on her calendar of events happening each day.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and always willing to
help neighbors and friends.

She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in
Greene and a member of the U.P.W. and the Birthday Club.

Living family members include her daughter, Leola and her husband,
Edward Prause of Hampton; six grandchildren, Linda and husband,
Hans Terrill of Dumont; Jannett and her husband, Ron Scally of
Allison; Janis and her husband, Bruce Theis of Hampton; JoAnn
and her husband, Gerald Craig of Dumont; Connie Moreno of Orting,
Wash., and Larry Prause and his wife, Doris of Aredale; 19
great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother,
Walter and his wife, Alene Wilke of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her first husband; her second husband;
her son, Edwin in 1954; her parents; and four brothers, Charlie,
William, Emil and Ernest Wilke.

The family of George L. Mielke has requested that memorial contributions

George L. Mielke was born May 22, 1917, in Northwood, the son
of William and Bertha (Buth) Mielke.  He was baptized and confirmed
at Zion Lutheran Church in Northwood.  He attended and received
his education in the Northwood School System, graduating from
Northwood High School in 1934.  He also attended Luther College
in Decorah for two years.  After completing his education, he
began working for Urdahl and Vold General Store in Northwood.
He was inducted into military service with the U.S. Coast Guard
and served from July 1942 to November 1945, during World War
II, and was honorably discharged as a Storekeeper First Class.
 He was united in marriage to Gladys Fedge on May 5, 1943, in
the Grand Lake Lutheran Church in Oakland, Calif.  She preceded
him in death on Dec. 14, 1990.

He returned to Northwood after the service and was in partnership
with Carl Urdahl in the grocery business for about three years
and then entered the postal service and worked as a city carrier,
city clerk and retired as rural carrier in January 1979, with
a total of 34 years military and postal service.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, was an
usher for several years at the church and member of the American
Legion and  Northwood Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf and
having coffee with the coffee gang who included Joe Orth, Doc
Anderson, L.G. Stevens, Jay Methus, Philip Miller, Charlies Jones,
James Taylor, Elmer Helgeland, Maynard Jacobson and Kermit Helgeland,
at the Midway Cafe in Northwood.  He also was an associate member
of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779 in Northwood, Elks Club
in Albert Lea, Minn., delivered Meals on Wheels in Northwood,
and was known by his family and many friends as the town chauffeur
and for his wonderful sense of humor and for his dedication to
his church and community.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as a special
friend, Rose Mary Ellingson of Northwood, and other relatives
and many friends.

Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents;
one sister, Clarice Hove; and one brother, Russell Mielke.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

CHARLES CITY 

Eugene D. Whitney, 73, of rural Charles City, died Tuesday
(Dec. 12, 1995) at Veterans Administration Hospital, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Champion
Funeral Home, Osage, with Robert Rollins and Robert Alcorn officiating.
Eulogy will be given by Dick Briggs.  Burial will be in the
Osage Cemetery with military rites by Osage VFW Post 7920.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where
the family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.

Eugene D. Whitney was born July 7, 1922, in Des Moines.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Whitney of rural Charles
City; two daughters, Sheila Schneider, Charles City, and Jennifer
Short, San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Audrey Brewer, Des Moines,
and Mildred Moore, Harrison, Ark.; one stepbrother, Larry Whitney,
Harrison, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

Cheryl D. Tenold
NORTHWOOD  

Cheryl D. Tenold, 50, of rural Northwood, died Tuesday (Dec.
12, 1995) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran
Church, 309 N. Ninth St., with the Rev. Mark Bents officiating.
Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Conner Colonial
Chapel, 99 11th St. S.  Further visitation will be held one hour
prior to services at the church on Friday.

Cheryl was born March 16, 1945, in Albert Lea, Minn., the daughter
of Jimmie and Maxine (Moe) Nelson.  She married Robert O. Tenold
on Dec. 5, 1964, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood.

She attended Northwood schools and was a graduate of Northwood-Kensett
High School, Northwood.  Cheryl worked at the Northwood Co-op
Elevator for several years.

She especially loved her two granddaughters and enjoyed horses
and the outdoors.  She was a member of First Lutheran Church,
Northwood.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Robert O. Tenold of Northwood;
one daughter, Brenda Tenold of Northwood; one son, Danny Tenold
and his wife, Suzie, of Northwood; two granddaughters, Kelsey
and Tiarra Tenold of Northwood; her mother, Maxine Nelson of
Northwood; one sister, Sandra Thompson and her husband, Gary,
of Albert Lea, Minn.; her mother-in-law, Opal Tenold of Northwood;
two brothers-in-law, Lynn Tenold and his wife, Mindy, of Northwood,
and David Tenold and his wife, Marge, of Northwood; two nieces,
Allix and Briar Tenold; three nephews, Michael Thompson, Mike
and Todd Brunsvold; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmie Nelson in 1975;
her father-in-law, Reuben Tenold; and a brother-in-law, Dennis
Tenold.

Theadora C. Mapes Olmsted, 85, of Windsor Heights (Des Moines),
formerly of Floyd, died Monday (Dec. 11, 1995) at Iowa Lutheran
Hospital, Des Moines.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
Dec. 16, 1995, at Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd. The Rev. Blair Rohde-Frank
of Grace United Methodist Church, Floyd, will officiate.

There will be no visitation.  Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401
Blunt St., Charles City, is in charge of the arrangements.
