Glen is a native
of Klemme. He was a 1938
graduate of the Klemme High
School.

Eva K. Glassell, 1914-2009
August 19, 2009
Eva
Katherine Glassell, died on
Friday, August 14, 2009, at the
Adair County Memorial Hospital
in Greenfield, at the age of 94.
A Mass of
Resurrection was held on
Tuesday, August 18, at the St.
John's Catholic Church in
Greenfield, Iowa. The Rev. Mike
McLaughlin officiated. Burial
will be in the St. Boniface
Cemetery, Garner, at l:00 p.m.,
on Wednesday, August 19.
Eva was born on
October 5, 1914 in Corwith, the
daughter of George and Ella
(Halligan) Stokesbary. She grew
up and was educated in Klemme.
She was united in marriage to
Truman John Glassell. To this
union one son, William was born.
They lived in Garner, Storm Lake
and later moved to Fontanelle in
1994. She was retired from the
Garner School District as the
school secretary.
She enjoyed
playing bridge and cribbage. She
especially loved spending time
with her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by her parents;
husband, Truman in 1977; two
brothers, Orville and George,
Jr. Stokesbary; and one sister,
Florence Bair.
She is survived
by her son, William "Bill"
Glassell and wife, Julie of
Australia; six grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; eight
step-grandchildren; nine
step-great-grandchildren; and
other relatives and friends.
The Steen Funeral
Home in Fontanelle was in charge
of the arrangements.

Louise Buschmann, 1926-2009
August 26, 2009
Louise
Buschmann, age 83, most recently
of Sigourney, formerly of the
Klemme and Belmond areas and a
native of Hume, Missouri, died
on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at
the Manor House Care Facility,
Sigourney, where she had been
for a very short time.
Funeral services
were held on Wednesday, August
19, at the Peace Reformed
Church, Garner. Pastor Harvey
Opp of the Peace Reformed
Church, along with Pastor John
Hembry of the Sigourney United
Methodist Church officiated.
Burial was in the Peace Reformed
Church Cemetery. The Andrews
Funeral Home of Klemme was in
charge of the arrangements.
Those wishing to
express their sympathies through
a memorial in Louis's name may
wish to consider the Peace
Reformed Church, the Sigourney
United Methodist Church or to
their own choice.
Louise Dudley, the daughter of
Joseph and Clemme (Smith) Dudly,
was born on July 16, 1926 near
Hume, Missouri, the youngest of
nine children. She attended the
Hume area schools and graduated
from the Hume High School with
the class of 1944. On September
20, 1950, Louise was united in
marriage to Harm G. Buschmann at
Eldorado, Missouri. The couple's
union was blessed with two sons,
Paul and Philip. The couple
raised their sons at Klemme and
farmed near Klemme and Belmond,
Iowa. Louise was a life long
homemaker and nurturing wife,
mother and grandmother.
She was always a lady with a
positive, strong
Christian faith. In earlier
years she was active in the
Immanuel Reformed Church in
Klemme, then for many years she
was an active member of the
Peace Reformed Church, rural
Garner. In recent years she was
active in the Sigourney United
Methodist Church, after moving
to Sigourney from Belmond in
April 2000.
Louise's family was always the
focus of her life, enjoying any
occasion that meant they would
be in the presence of one
another. Her grandchildren noted
that Grandma Louise's homemade
chocolate chip cookies were,
"The Best in the World." Louise
loved animals, her favorites
were her dogs and she was
especially fond of her rat
terrier and in more recent years
her pet shitzu.
Louise's family and friends will
always remember her as a lady
who rarely complained and always
put others others needs before
her own. She persevered in
whatever life challenges she
faced, including impairments
placed upon her resulting from
having polio in her childhood
years. All who knew her well
will reflect fondly on her great
sense of humor and warm and
sweet personality.
Her legacy will be cherished in
the lives of her surviving son,
Paul (Susan) Buschmann of Platte
City, Missouri and their
children, Jonathan (Stephanie)
Buschmann of Kansas City,
Missouri, Zachary Buschmann of
Columbia, Missouri and Sarah
Buschmann of Platte City,
Missouri; son, Philip (Cyrena)
Buschmann of Sigourney and their
son, Kyle (Penney) Sheetz of
Leon; two great-grandchildren,
Elly and Joe Sheetz of Leon;
brother, Marvin (Margaret) Hess
of Hume, Missouri; and
sister-in-law, Mary Hess of
Hume, Missouri; and many nieces
and nephews.
Louise was
preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Harm in 1997;
five brothers; and two sisters.

Alma Thompson, 1910-2009
August 26, 2009
Alma
Thompson, 99, of Garner, died on
Sunday, August 23, 2009, at the
Concord Care Center in Garner.
Funeral services were held on
Tuesday, at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Garner, with
the Rev. Dale Glawatz
officiating. Burial was in the
Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery,
southwest of Lake Mills. The
Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner
was in charge of the
arrangements. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be
directed to the Hospice of North
Iowa.
Alma Thompson, the daughter of
K. O. and Ingebor (Lein)
Helgeson, was born on January 4,
1910, on a farm in Mt. Valley
Township in Winnebago County.
She was baptized at the
Winnebago Lutheran Church near
Lake Mills and confirmed at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Forest City. At the age of nine,
she moved with her family to
Forest City where she graduated
from high school in 1928. On
August 12, 1928 she was married
to Truman Thompson at the
Winnebago Lutheran Church. To
this union three daughters were
born, Norma Jane, Sandra Jean
and Janet Kay. They lived in
Waterloo for a year before
moving to a dairy farm west of
Forest City. They later bought
their own farm south of Fertile.
On October 3,
1949, her husband, Truman passed
away. Alma then worked at
Hanlontown, Forest City and at
the Clear Lake Bakery for
fourteen years before retiring
in 1970. She enjoyed 500, bingo,
cooking, shopping, traveling,
knitting, reading and spending
time with family and friends.
She was a member of the St. Paul
Lutheran Church, LWML and the
Garner Senior Citizens.
Alma is survived by her
daughters, Sandy (Dick) Young of
Garner and Janet (Larry)
Burtness of Clear Lake; six
grandsons, Rick Burtness of
Tucson, Arizona, Kevin (Maureen)
Burtness of Clear Lake, Craig
(Connie) Young of Cedar Falls,
Paul (Cathy) Burtness of Mason
City, Dr. Alan (Jody) Young of
Waverly and Douglas (Holly)
Burtness of Mason City; and
twelve great-grandchildren,
Sydney Burtness, Sarah Burtness,
Paige Burtness, Alexandria
Burtness, Mackenzie Burtness,
Madison Burtness, Macey
Burtness, Aiden Burtness,
Abigail Young, Kelsey Young,
Mitchell Young and Britney
Young.
She was preceded in death by her
husband; parents; daughter,
Norma; three sisters; two
brothers; four sisters-in-law;
six brothers-in-law; two nieces;
and a nephew.

Elsie Hrubes, 1917-2009

Elsie
R. Hrubes, 92, of Anchorage,
Alaska, died on Monday, August
31, 2009, at the Anchorage
Pioneers' Home.
Mrs. Hrubes was
born on March 12, 1917 in
Hancock County, Iowa. She was a
proud member of the Catholic
Daughters Association and was
honored for her 60 years of
service.
Family wrote:
"During her lifetime, Elsie
survived the Great Depression,
worked for the Northwest
Railroad and was a wonderful
chef and seamstress. She was the
owner-operator of two
restaurants, a licensed Realtor
and a patent holder. On top of
this, she was an exceptional
mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. Her
creativity is an important part
of her legacy and something that
her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren each
inherited in unique ways."
She is survived
by her sons, Ed Hrubes (Marilyn)
of Henderson, Nevada, Al Hrubes
(Sharon) of Montrose, Colorado
and Duane Hrubes (Bobbie) of
Anchorage; daughters, Kathy
(John) Chamberlin of Anchorage
and Carol (John) Schuller of
Anchorage; daughter-in-law,
Susan Hrubes of Dumfries,
Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Mary Wille of Corpus
Christie, Texas.
She was preceded
in death by her parents;
husband; son, Marvin Hrubes;
brother, George Wellik; and
sisters, Leona Leonard and Irene
Psotka.
