Doris Back, 1921-2001

Doris Evelyn (Johnson) Back,
died on Friday, August 3, 2001,
at her home in Klemme.
Funeral services
were held at the United
Methodist Church in Klemme on
Tuesday, August 7, with Rev.
Paddy Druhl officiating. Music
was provided by organist,
Margaret Tue and vocalist, Clay
Kilgore. Casket bearers were
Harley Nuehring, Joel Back, Jack
Williams, Dave Ott, Ed Lentz and
Clay Kilgore. Interment was in
the Ell Township Cemetery,
Klemme.
Doris Back was
born to John Agard and Hilma
(Arvidsson) Johnson on August
22, 1921, in Klemme, Iowa.
On May 27, 1949,
she married Graydon Back in
Klemme. Doris worked at Larson's
Grocery Store and the United
States Post Office in Klemme.
She was a member of the United
Methodist Church, the United
Methodist Women and the American
Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include
her daughters, Becky Tosel and
her husband, Steve and
grandchildren, Timothy and Ann,
Mary Balek and her husband,
Terry; grandchildren, Kimberly,
Kerrill, Kathryn and Krista, all
of Mason City; one sister, Ethel
Steffen of Waterloo; a
sister-in-law, Charlene Back of
Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and
numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Doris was
preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Graydon in
1989; two grandsons, Nicholas
and John Tosel; two brothers,
Fridolph and Harold; and two
sisters, Bertha Johnson and Ruth
Carson.

George C. Studer, 1918-2001
August 8, 2001
George C. Studer, died at the
Humboldt Care Center, on
Saturday, August 4, 2001. He was
83.
A Funeral Mass was held at the
St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Corwith, on Tuesday, August 7,
at 10:30 a.m., with Father
Marvin Bries and Father Paul
Eisele officiating. The organist
was Catherine Devine. Interment
was in the LuVerne Cemetery and
military graveside rites were
conducted by the Livermore
American Legion Post #415.
Casket bearers were Leon Shoo,
Dale Larimer, Paul Devine, Duane
Heinen, Jim Carroll and Tom
Bormann. The
Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf
Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
George C. Studer,
was born on June 16, 1918 in
West Bend, to Julius and Helen
(Dorweiler) Studer. George
received his education in St.
Benedict, then farmed and was a
part time carpenter.
On August 20, 1942, George
served his country in Africa,
southern France and central
Europe. Following his discharge
in 1945, he owned and operated a
bar in LuVerne for seven years,
then worked for Kossuth County
in road maintenance for six
years.
On September 25, 1951, George
married Florence Hinz in
Corwith. George became assistant
manager of Borden Chemical,
which he held for thirteen years
before retiring.
George was a
member of the St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Corwith,
member of the Knights of
Columbus in St. Joseph, member
of the American Legion in
Livermore where he served as
commander for eight years,
member of the LuVerne Fire
Department for thirty years
where he served as Chief for six
years and a member of the
LuVerne Community Club.
George became a
resident of the Humboldt Care
Center in November 1997.
Survivors include
his step-daughter, Joan Nielsen
of LuVerne; special niece and
nephew, Robert and Zella Studer
of Ames; as well as other nieces
and nephews.
George was preceded in death by
his parents; his wife, Florence
on October 29, 1999; as well as
one brother, Henry; and three
sisters, Monica, Marjorie and
Bernadette.

Sherry Rae Kubly, 1945-2001
August 14, 2001
Sherry Rae Kubly, died suddenly
on Monday, August 6, 2001, at
her home near Livermore, Iowa.
She was 56.
Funeral services were held on
Thursday, August 9, 2001, at the
Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne,
Iowa.
Sherry Rae Kubly
was born on February 16, 1945,
at Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Lloyd
and Gladys Hansen Lenning. She
received her early education in
the country schools near
Humboldt, Iowa. Sherry graduated
from the Humboldt High School in
1963.
After her
schooling, Sherry worked at the
Humboldt Trust & Savings Bank.
On August 21, 1966, Sherry was
married to John Kubly at the Our
Savior Lutheran Church in
Humboldt. The couple lived for a
time in Minnesota, where Sherry
worked at a Bank. They then
lived in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma,
where John was in the Service.
The couple then moved back to
Oak Center, Minnesota and lived
for one year before moving to
LuVerne, Iowa in 1968. Sherry
worked at various jobs around
LuVerne, including being a
housewife, babysitting, working
at the Bank, working for Peavey
Elevator, waitressing and
working at the nearby hospital.
She began working for the Post
Office in 1994, and has most
recently been working in
Clarion.
Sherry was a member of the Zion
Lutheran Church in LuVerne. She
also belonged to the LuVerne
Community Chest, the Progressive
Club and the Firemen's
Auxiliary.
Sherry was an
avid NASCAR racing fan, loved
working with crafts and her
computer, but her greatest joy
in life, was her children and
grandchildren.
Sherry is
survived by her husband, John of
Livermore; her children, Tony
Kubly and wife, Paula of
Kanawha, Tami Wingert and
husband, Dana of Waukee, Iowa,
Tim Schlemme and husband, Lyle
of Humboldt and Tom Kubly of
Lakewood, Colorado.
Also surviving are her
grandchildren, Andrew, Kaitlin,
and Madison Kubly, Brandon Levi
and Taylor Wingert and Alexa
Schlemme; two brothers, Roger
Lenning and wife, Nancy of
Humboldt and Doug Lenning and
wife, Jan of Dakota City, Iowa.
Sherry was preceded in death by
her parents.

Raymond Lloyd Nelson, 1913-2001
August 14, 2001
Raymond Lloyd Nelson, 88, of
Britt, passed away on Tuesday,
August 7, 2001, at the Westview
Care Center in Britt.
Funeral services were held on
Friday, August 10, 2001, at the
United Methodist Church, in
Britt, Iowa.
Ray, the son of
Nels P. and Dora L. Rasmussen
was born on March 26, 1913 in
Britt, where he received his
education.
Ray entered the
U.S. Army in 1942 and served in
England, France, and Germany. A
Master Sergeant, Ray received
his honorable discharge in
January of 1946. During the war
years Ray met Joyce Beasley at
her mother's teashop in England.
The couple were united in
marriage on October 27, 1945, at
the St. Mary's Butts Cathedral
in England.
Ray was employed
by Pritchard Auto until 1960. He
then was employed as a clerk and
mail carrier at the Britt Post
Office until 1964, when he
became Postmaster at the Corwith
Post Office. Ray retired in
1982.
Ray enjoyed spending time with
his family and friends. He was a
licensed pilot who loved flying
and attending flight events. Ray
was a member of the Britt United
Congregational Church. He was a
charter member of the Darius
Masonic Lodge #341, a member of
the Lions Club, the Britt Golf
Club and Chamber of Commerce.
Ray is survived
by his four daughters, Ripple
and her husband, Keith Van Engen
of Des Moines, Ava Nelson of
Palm Harbor, Florida, Lissa and
her husband, Michael Honken of
Waukee and Rita and her husband,
Steve Fett of Wesley; four
granddaughters, Jessica and her
husband, Kyle, Casey, Sierra and
Kathryn; one great-grandson,
Knicholas; and one sister, Ardis
Nelson of Britt.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; his
wife, Joyce in May of 2001; an
infant son, Charles Raymond; two
sisters; and two brothers.
