LELAND R. MUHLENBRUCK
June 17, 1941 - June 30, 2013

Leland Richard Muhlenbruck, age 72 of Latimer, passed away with his family at his side at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, IA on June 30, 2013. Leland was born on June 17, 1941 to Alva and Rebecca (Koenen) Muhlenbruck. He was raised on the family farm in rural Chapin and graduated from Chapin High School in 1959.

Leland married his wife, Judith (Schaffer), on July 9, 1960 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Latimer, IA. They spent the rest of their life together living in Latimer. Leland spent his life
in the grain elevator business. He loved his work at Latimer Grain, D&J Feeds, and FC Cooperative. Even in his retirement he continued to work at the elevator handling corn and fertilizer.

Leland was a member of the United Church of Christ in Latimer. He also served as a member of the Latimer Fire Department for several years. Leland was a youth baseball coach in Latimer for many years, coaching the Latimer Twins Little League team and the Babe Ruth Latimer Lynx. He was a mentor to many young men through this service, including his own three sons. He also volunteered for many years on the football chain gang at CAL High School.

Later in life, Leland grew to love his grandchildren. He and Judy could be seen at ball games and activities all over the state of Iowa and Minnesota. He was always their biggest fan. No matter where you saw Leland, you always knew you would get a piece of candy. He loved to make others smile and always looked out for those less fortunate than himself. Leland loved his dog, Hannah.

Leland is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Judith. Three sons; Kirk (Lori) of Northfield, MN, Trent Muhlenbruck of Ankeny, IA, and Tom (Tami) Muhlenbruck of Ankeny, IA. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Lola Furman of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Berniece Crabb.

SUSAN E. "Bobby" MADERA
February 16, 1944 - June 23, 2013

Susan E. "Bobby" Madera, 69, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa.

She was born February 14, 1944, in Hampton, Iowa to Gus and Frances (Nowell) Vlahos. Bobby graduated from Hampton High School. She was married to Robert Aguilera and Felix Madera both marriages ended on divorce.

Bobby worked at Betty's Café and Seabees Corporation in Hampton. She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton, Iowa. Bobby enjoyed gardening, crocheting, going to auctions and traveling.

She is survived by her son Troy Aguilera of New Orleans, Louisiana, granddaughter Alexis Aguilera, brother Steve Vlahos of Hampton, sister Betty Wickwire of Hampton, sister Debby Tolan of Pomona, California, niece Crystal Lupkes of Hampton and nephew Wade Baker of Mason City.

Bobby is preceded in death by her parents and daughter Nancy.


CLETYS DETTBARN HOWAY
January 3, 1912 - June 25, 2013

Cletys I. Howay, 101 of Iowa Falls, Iowa passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Scenic Manor Care Center. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Scenic Manor Care Center Main Dining Room at 2:00 p.m. on July 15, 2013 with her friend and retired Chaplain, Harriet Norem officiating. Internment will take place at Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Cletys Irene Spoor was born January 3, 1912 in Armstrong, Iowa, the daughter of Emmet and Mary (Wagner) Spoor. The family moved to Iowa Falls in 1904 where Cletys completed her schooling. She married Paul Dettbarn on December 18, 1931. To this union two daughters where born, Wilma Irene and Mary Pauline. Paul preceded her in death on June 28. 1963. She later married Patrick Howay who died in 1970.

She will be remembered as a wonderful seamstress, knitter and crotchetier. She was employed at several local retailers and more recently with the Collegiate Manufacturing Co. in Ames and Boyd Manufacturing Co. in Iowa Falls where she was a departmental supervisor where she retired.
She was a member of the Averine Rebekah Lodge #196 for many years.

Her younger daughter, Mary Bowman, passed away on February 5, 2010. Cletys Dettbarn Howay is survived by a daughter, Wilma Sanders and
Don of Dubuque Iowa, a son in law, Jack Bowman, of Iowa Falls, seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a sister, Doris Sielaff of Iowa Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Clone Lake and Cecil Walker.

The family wants to thank the staff at Ashbrook Assisted Living and the Scenic Care Center who took such loving care of Cletys during the last 11 years of her life. Also her grand daughter, Dawn Bowman who faithfully visited her grandmother weekly as many of the family lived away from Iowa Falls.
