Mabel Kadlecik, age 88, of
Buffalo Center and formerly of
Britt, passed away on Wednesday
August 1, 2012, at the Timely
Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo
Center.
A
graveside service was held at
2:00 p.m., on Friday, August 3,
at the Crystal Lake Cemetery in
Crystal Lake, with Pastor Perry
Aalgaard officiating. The Winter
Funeral Home, Buffalo Center,
was in charge of the

Pauline Freeseman
August 15, 2012
Pauline Freeseman, 81, of
Hampton and formerly of Britt,
passed away on Wednesday, August
8, 2012, at the Hospice of North
Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, August 13, at 10:30
a.m., at the First Lutheran
Church in Britt, with Pastor
Geoffrey White officiating.
Burial was in the Evergreen
Cemetery in Britt. Visitation
was held on Sunday, August 12,
from 2-4:00 p.m., at the Ewing
Funeral Chapel in Britt and one
hour prior to the services at
the church.
Pauline, the daughter of Herb
and Ona (Prelip) Nessa, was born
on June 7, 1931 in Forest City.
She grew up and received her
education in Forest City. She
was confirmed at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Forest City.
Pauline was united in marriage
with Rudy Freeseman on February
14, 1955. The couple lived on a
farm and raised their daughters
in the Britt area.
She loved sewing, gardening,
reading and homemaking.
Pauline is survived by three
daughters, Julie Pralle of
Hampton, Rosalie Davis of
Altoona and Patty Freeseman of
Hampton; twelve grandchildren,
Andrea (Pralle) Hickman, Sara (Pralle)
Schlichting, Adam Pralle, Jason
Davis, Danielle (Davis)
Richardson, Betsy Davis, Mary
Kemnitzer, Anastasia Kemnitzer,
Michaela Kemnitzer, Andy Reid,
Bryan Reid, Hannah (Reid)
Hanson; sixteen
great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Tom Nessa and Bob
Nessa; three sisters, Sally
Sweers, Mary Lillington and
Gloria Hooper; along with
numerous nieces, nephews, other
family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Herb and Ona Nessa; and
husband, Rudy.

Nettie Eden
August 15, 2012
Nettie M. Eden, 85, of Woden,
died on Wednesday, August 8,
2012, at the Hancock County
Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services were held at
10:30 a.m., on Saturday, August
11, at the First Presbyterian
Church in Woden, with Rev. Dr.
Glenn Wilson officiating. Burial
was in the Bingham Township
Cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral
Home in Woden, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Nettie Marie Eden, the daughter
of George and Jennie (Bruns)
Eden, was born on February 15,
1927, on a farm near Woden. She
attended school in Woden and
graduated from high school in
1946. Nettie lived on the family
farm caring for her parents and
siblings. After her mother's
death in 1976, she continued the
farming operation with her
brother, Calvin. In 1984, she
moved into Woden.
She enjoyed cooking and
gardening. She was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church in
Woden, UPW and taught Sunday
School for twenty-five years.
Nettie is survived by her
brother, Calvin of Britt; two
sisters, Delores (John) Hansen
of Minneapolis, Minnesota and
Della Manning of Mesa, Arizona;
a sister-in-law, Darlene Eden
Klasse of Forest City; two
nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; an infant sister,
Jeanette Mary Eden; brothers,
Harold Eden and Glen (Mary)
Eden; and a brother-in-law,
Curtis Post.
The Cataldo Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements. |
Kathryn "Kaye" Bilyeu
August 22, 2012
Kathryn M. "Kaye" Bilyeu, 94, of
Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on
Sunday, August 12, 2012, at the
Brighton Gardens Senior Living
Center.
Funeral services were held on
Friday, August 17, at 1:30 p.m.,
at the West Center Chapel of
Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler in
Omaha. Graveside service and
interment was on Saturday,
August 18, at 3:30 p.m., in the
Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may
be sent to the Diabetes Research
Institute Foundation, 200 S.
Park Road, Suite 100, Hollywood,
Florida.
Kaye was born on February 27,
1918 in Buffalo Center, the
daughter of Bertha and Otto
Markworth. Her education
included two years of Business
School in California, before
receiving a degree in Business
Education from the Oklahoma
State University, attained after
she had married John O. Bilyeu
in 1945. She worked a variety of
jobs and eventually retired from
a job with the Social Security
Administration in Omaha.
Kaye greatly enjoyed traveling
and had visited Europe and
Australia, as well as many parts
of the U. S. during her life.
She was also an avid
square-dancer for many years.
Kaye was preceded in death by
her parents, Bertha and Otto;
and her husband, John O. Bilyeu.
She is survived by her son, John
M. Bilyeu of Sidney, Nebraska;
and brother, James A Markworth
of Annville, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to express
gratitude to the doctors, nurses
and staff of the following
facilities, for care and
attention she received:
Methodist Hospital, Omaha;
Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha;
Waterford at Miracle Hills
Assisted Living; and Brighton
Gardens Senior Living.

Betty L. Ginger
August 22, 2012
Betty L. Ginger, 76, of
Britt, formerly of Moorland,
passed away on Monday,
August 13, 2012, at the
Mercy Medical Center in
Mason City.
Services were held at 10:30
a.m., on Friday, August 17,
at the Prince Of Peace
Lutheran Church, with Rev.
Dennis Konkel officiating.
Visitation was from 4-7:00
p.m., on Thursday, at the
Gunderson Funeral Home and
Cremation Services in Fort
Dodge.
Betty Lou Maisel, the
daughter of Howard and
Mathilda (Fleck) Maisel, was
born on September 24, 1935,
in Hubbard and grew up on
the farm. At the age of
five, Betty became deaf and
started attending the Iowa
School for the Deaf in
Council Bluffs. On June 20,
1959, she married Delbert
Ginger. Betty worked at
Globe Union, Central Labs
and for a short time worked
at the Hancock County
Hospital. For the past 13
years they traveled south
for the winter.
She enjoyed puzzle books,
Britt Hobo Days, gardening,
spending time with her kids
and grandkids and baking
goodies for Christmas
gatherings. Betty loved
camping with the deaf
community and being part of
the Iowa Deaf Campers. She
was a member of the Prince
Of Peace Lutheran Church’s
Deaf Congregation.
Betty is survived by her
husband, Delbert; their two
children, Debra Jo Rauhauser
and Delia (Brad) Hoffman;
five grandchildren, Justin
Ferry (Stacy Eger), Callin
Ferry (Teal Hulsebus), David
Hoffman, Megan Hoffman and
Danielle Rauhauser; seven
great-grandchildren; her
brothers and
sisters-in-laws, Darrell and
Sandra Rehder, Randy (Goose)
Ginger and Arlene Stevenson;
and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death
by her parents; a son, Dean
Ginger in 1971; and two
sisters, Darlene and Jennie.

Jeanette Bravick
August 22, 2012
Jeanette O. Bravick, 82, of
Britt, passed away on Sunday,
August 19, 2012, at the Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, August 22, at the
United Methodist Church in
Britt, with the Rev. Robert
Dodge officiating. Burial will
be in the Evergreen Cemetery in
Britt.
Jeanette, the daughter of Ben
and Louisa (Hubbard) Johns, was
born on April 11, 1930 in Britt.
She attended the Britt Community
Schools and graduated in 1947.
Jeanette was united in marriage
with Robert Bravick at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua on
March 13, 1948. The couple made
their home in Britt, where they
raised their family. Jeanette
was employed at the Britt grade
school as a secretary for many
years.
Jeanette and Bob spent their
winters in Weslaco, Texas, with
old and new friends. She enjoyed
her many fishing and camping
trips with Bob. Her children and
their friends grew up with her
wonderful homemade chocolate
chip cookies. She had even
mastered the art of making
divinity, which everyone looked
forward to at Christmas time.
Spending time with her two
grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren during the
holidays always brought a smile
to her face. Jeanette was a
member of the Britt United
Methodist Church. She loved
sewing and making quilts and was
active in the sewing group,
which met weekly at the church.
She had lovingly made quilts for
all of her family members. She
was also a member of the UMW,
Legion Auxiliary and Hospital
Auxiliary.
In
November 2004, Jeanette moved to
the Summit House. She enjoyed
living there for six years. Due
to her failing health she moved
to the Westview Care Center in
December of 2010.
Jeanette is survived by her one
daughter, Rebecca and her
husband, Don of Clear Lake and
their family, Rachel and Corey
Vespestad and Talia and Sidra of
Huxley and Andy and Jessica
Newton and Silas, Matteus,
Henrik and Greger of Alma,
Colorado and one son, David
Bravick and his wife, Jane of
Silver City, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Bob; and
siblings.

Delores Hrubes
September 5, 2012
Delores A. Hrubes, 58, of Britt,
died on Monday, August 27, 2012,
at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Memorial services were held at
5:00 p.m., on Friday, August 31,
at the Zion Evangelical and
Reformed Church in Garner, with
Pastor Brian Lund officiating.
Memorials may be directed to the
Hospice of North Iowa or Hancock
County Health Services.
Delores Ann Hrubes, the youngest
of four children of Orval and
Pearl (Haes) Barkema, was born
on August 25, 1954 in Belmond.
She graduated from the
Garner-Hayfield High School in
1972. After high school she
worked for Winnebago Industries
in Forest City. She met her
husband, Dean, at a Duncan Hall
dance and they were united in
marriage on December 10, 1977,
at the Zion Evangelical and
Reformed Church in Garner. They
lived on a farm south of Duncan
all of their married life.
Besides raising their three
children, Delores also helped
out on the farm.
She was active with her
children's activities being a
4-H Leader, chaperone and a
football mom. Delores' other
passions in her life were
playing cards, organizing
photos, fishing and driving her
John Deere tractors. She was a
member of the St. Wenceslaus
Catholic Church in Duncan and
the Rosary Society.
Delores is survived by her
husband, Dean of Britt; three
children, Sheri Hrubes of Mason
City, Amanda (Andy) Martin of
Mason City and their two
children, Brayden and Kinley and
Chuck Hrubes of Garner; her
mother, Pearl Barkema of Garner;
three siblings, Ed (Chery)
Barkema of Garner, Phyllis
(Paul) Spade of Goodell and Ivan
(Pam) Barkema of Bruel,
Wisconsin; mother-in-law,
Margaret Hrubes of Garner; two
sisters-in-law, Darlene Boho of
Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and
Diane (Bill) Elling of
Estherville; two
brothers-in-law, David (Sharon)
Hrubes of Fort Dodge and Gerry
Hrubes of Garner; and many
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
father, Orval Barkema;
father-in-law, John Hrubes; and
aunts, uncles and cousins.
