Marie, the daughter of Lottie and John Meinders, was born on September 26, 1916 in Meservey, one of six children. She married Erwin G. Nuehring on September 8, 1937, and they began farming near Klemme.

In addition to providing for the  needs of her family, Marie was a hardworking partner on the farm. Erwin and Marie wintered in Palmetto, Florida, for 20 years while spending their summers in Iowa. Her family recalls the wonderful meals and delicious canned produce that she made, Sunday gatherings and meals with relatives, occasions when Marie and Erwin would sponsor youth group gatherings and events at their farm, and the beautiful sewing, embroidery, quilting and other handcrafted items she made.

Marie enjoyed raising flowers and always had a large garden. She and Erwin loved to go dancing at the Surf Ballroom and looked forward to annual fishing excursions at Cass Lake, MN with her sister Mildred and Duard Lewis. The couple enjoyed traveling around the U.S. delivering motorhomes, and had been to nearly every state, including Alaska. Their grandchildren cherish memories of times spent in Florida and on the farm picking fresh fruit from the trees in their yard, running around at the farm, or a  trip to the ocean for a picnic and afternoon of collecting sea shells.

Marie was a 4-H Leader and was active in the Dorcas Circle and as a church youth fellowship sponsor for many years.
