Anna Rosenberg

Funeral services for Anna M. Rosenberg, 95, of St. Ansgar, who died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held on Saturday, October 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Anna M. Rosenberg was born March 25, 1908, to John P. and Sina (Rasmussen) White. She was baptized and confirmed on April 13, 1924, at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. C. Landdeck. She attended school at the country school west of Grafton. She graduated from high school in Grafton, Iowa on May 20, 1926. She was married to George Rosenberg on May 1, 1927. Two sons were born to this union, Raymond and Russell. They farmed for many years on the Rosenberg home farm southwest of St. Ansgar. After retiring from farming in 1955, they purchased a home in St. Ansgar. Anna went to work at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center. Among other duties, she operated Anna's Cafe. She owned rug looms and wove many, many rugs for family and friends. She did volunteer work at many churches and the Good Samaritan Center. Anna had six sisters and brothers.

Anna is survived by son Russell G. Sr. and wife Kathryn of St. Ansgar; 11 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 25 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband George; son Raymond Sr.; a grandson Raymond Jr.; brothers, Vern, Art, and John Jr.; three sisters, Mabel Paulsen, Nora Bruesewitz and Clara Kuehn.

Alfred Pitzen

Funeral Services for Alfred Pitzen, 94, of Stacyville, who died Thursday, November 6, 2003, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, were held on Tuesday, November 11 at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial was in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Alfred was born on August 30, 1909, to Fred and Christina (Smith) Pitzen. His marriage of 67 years to Mary Reding began on September 2, 1936, at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville. Alfred farmed his entire life, retiring to Stacyville in 1978. He always had an active part in farming, even after his retirement. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and traveling. He also loved watching his grandchildren in sports activities. Alfred was very involved with 4-H, serving as a leader for many years. The county fair was a special part of his life as well as his families’ lives. Alfred was a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, an Iowa Holstein member, a Farm Bureau member, a board member of the ASCS, and received the Distinguished Holstein Award.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Mary of Stacyville; sons, Gene (Jane) Pitzen of Stacyville, and Ronnie (Becky) of Stacyville; four daughters, Mary Jane (Jim) Mauer of Lisle, Illinois; Betty Ann (Marly) Stoltenberg of Mason City; Carol (Vaughn) Rossum of Osage; Rosalie (Doug) Malo of Brookings, South Dakota; daughter-in-law Vernie Pitzen of Austin, Minnesota; 25 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Pitzen of Stacyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James; three brothers, Paul, Lawrence and Bill; four sisters, Angela May, Gertrude Hartnell, Millie Pitzen and Martha Pitzen.


Adam Bruggeman

Adam Joseph Bruggeman, infant son of Kim and Steve Bruggeman of Rose Creek, was stillborn Thursday, November 13 at the Austin Medical Center. Adam is survived by his parents, a brother, Travis, a sister, Anna, and preceded in death by a brother, Samuel. Also surviving are grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Private services were held with interment at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Rose Creek.


Debora Abbas

Funeral services for Debora Kay Abbas, 48, of Stacyville, formerly of Kanawha, who died Friday, November 14, 2003 as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Rockledge, Florida, were held on Wednesday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Debora, the daughter of Leo and Faye Corlew Abbas, was born August 28, 1955, in Belmond. She grew up in the Kanawha area. She attended and graduated from Kanawha High School. She attended Sioux Empire College in Hawarden and worked in Hawarden for a time and later moved to Stacyville. She was employed by Connie's Express of Seattle, Washington, a long distance truck driver along with her fiancé, Lyle Nicol.

Debora is survived by her fiancé, Lyle Nicol of Stacyville; two children, Chad and Christina; mother, Faye Abbas of Kanawha; sisters, Pamela Miller and husband LeRoy of Mason City, Lory Shippy and husband Larry of Clear Lake; and brother, Wayne and wife Laura of Kanawha; niece Kayla and nephew, Rodney.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo and son, Ben.
