Homer K. Hansen

Funeral services for Homer K. Hansen, 80, were held at the 8th Ward Chapel in St. George February 26, 2003.

Homer was born in St. Ansgar on May 6, 1922, the son of Hans K. and Blanche Hansen. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1939. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and his hometown (St. Ansgar). He attended most of the Class of 1939 reunions and he hosted the 50th reunion in Utah at his ranch in Pine Valley. There was good attendance from St. Ansgar and all over the country.

Homer worked at the Hess Drug Store and for Hormel before enlisting in the Air Force in June of 1942. He married Helen Cummings, also of St. Ansgar in 1942 and they had three children, Michael and Lynn, both living in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Margaret, who resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.

He proudly served 31 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1973 with the rank of Major General, two stars. His career was distinguished, flying 366 combat missions in fighter aircraft in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. In peacetime, he served in Japan, England, Germany, Hawaii and many other states with two tours at the Pentagon.

After retiring from the Air Force, he married Sara Jane McDermott (Sally), and worked as a consultant with Northrup Aviation Co., traveling to many countries, including Saudi Arabia. He served on the Board of Directors of a savings bank in Las Vegas and was elected as president of the bank. He retired after five years and moved to St. George, Utah.

Homer is survived by his wife Sally; a sister, Gyda Reisner of Virginia; three children; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; two sisters, Loraine Mulligan and Beulah Green.

M. Charlotte Marcusson

Funeral services for M. Charlotte Marcusson, 99, of St. Ansgar, who died February 25, 2003, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Porisch officiating Visitation will be Friday, February 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home.

Charlotte was born on September 30, 1903 in Barton Township, Worth County, to Julius and Martha (Ringhand) Johnson. She was baptized on September 30, 1903 and confirmed in 1914 at the Mona Lutheran Church, Mona. She married Peter Marcusson on June 18, 1926 in Owatonna, Minnesota. She lived on the Marcusson family farm near Toeterville until the age of 92 when she entered the Good Samaritan Center on November 28, 1998. She was a member of First Lutheran Church here. She liked to sew, quilt and bake cookies.

Charlotte is survived by a daughter, Gladys (Russell) Sampson, St. Ansgar, three grandchildren, Gerald (Diane) Sampson of Lyle, Minnesota; Jim (Pam) Sampson of Lyle; Debra (Timm) Ehret of Rose Creek, Minnesota; eight great grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes DeMaris of Riceville and Esther Everson of Lyle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Nellie Helfritz and Alice Austinson; an infant twin sister, five brothers, Oscar, Emil, Maynard and two infants.

Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery.

Shirley Wrench

Shirley "Nanny” F. Wrench, 72, of Northwood, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, MN, 105 East to S56, 4 miles North on S56, with Reverend Dan Baker and Reverend Robert Kruger officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. South, Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

Shirley "Nanny” F. Wrench was born on November 26, 1930, in David, Iowa, near Little Cedar, the daughter of George and Ruth (Herron) Wilson. She attended and received her education in the Mitchell and Osage school system. She was united in marriage to Donald Lewis Wrench on February 22, 1947, at the Lutheran Church in Osage. He preceded her in death on November 26,1985. After their marriage together they farmed side by side their entire life in rural St. Ansgar. After Don's death she moved to her daughter and son-in-law's home rural Northwood. Nanny also was a waitress for the Sportsman Lounge in St. Ansgar.

She enjoyed taking care of livestock, knitting, fishing, traveling extensively throughout the United States and internationally, loved animals, cribbage, enjoyed a good bargain at Flea Markets and garage sales, and enjoyed making doll clothes for her great-grandchildren, but her great love and enjoyment was being with family and friends.

Hazel Petznick

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11 for Hazel Petznick of Alma Center, Wisconsin. Hazel was formerly of the St. Ansgar/Grafton area. Arrangements are being made by Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, MN.

Jason Parcel

Jason James Glen Parcel, age 27, of Mason City formerly of Riceville passed away on Thursday, February 27 in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville on Monday, February 3, at 10:30 am, with the Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Riceville.

Jason was born in Osage, Iowa on May 30, 1975 to James and Sharon (Rosenberg) Parcel. He attended Riceville schools and graduated from Riceville Community High School in 1994. Jason was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Riceville. He enjoyed his family, music and playing his guitar. Jason was employed at Murphy's USA in Mason City and enjoyed meeting the many people.

Jason will be sadly missed by his parents: James and Sharon Parcel, of Riceville, a son: Trae Dozark, of Riceville, two sisters: Michelle Rush and her husband Kelly, of Mason City, IA, and Melanie Ostrander of Jewell, IA. His nieces, Taia Saltou, Danielle and Mariah Ostrander, Kaitlyn and Kourtney Rush.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents: Glenn and Arlene Rosenberg and Glen and Leona Parcel.

Hazel I. Petznick

Hazel I. Petznick, 91, of Alma Center, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the Fairchild Health Care Center, Fairchild, Wisconsin.

She was born on October 2, 1911, in Davis County, Iowa, to parents Perley and Cora Mae (Copeland) Greiner. She married Harold W. Petznick on June 4, 1929, in Northwood, Iowa. They made their home in Iowa until moving to Wisconsin in 1951. Her husband of fifty-seven years died on July 19, 1986.

Hazel will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Hazel was a great cook and she enjoyed working in her garden, baking and doing handiwork, always sharing with those around her. She also loved playing cards, especially 500.

Surviving family members are her son, William (Bonnie) Petznick of Elko, Nevada; daughter Jeanette (Jack) Ganders of Amarillo, Texas; daughter-in-law Shirley Petznick of Fairchild; brother Jim Greiner; sisters Ruth Belz, Faye Severson and Louise Kirchgatter; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; besides other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Lloyd, and by six brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services for Hazel I. Petznick were held at 11 am, Monday, March 10, 2003, at Grace Lutheran Church, Alma Center, with Reverend Ricky Bertels officiating. Additional services were held Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at 11 am at the Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, Minnesota, with burial in Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota.

Hank Bruggeman

Henry (Hank) William Bruggeman, 86, of rural St. Ansgar, died on Monday, March 3, 2003 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 11 am at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, Iowa, with Rev. Dr. Elaine Siemsen and Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Burial was at the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Toeterville. Military rites were provided by Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion, St. Ansgar.

Hank was born on September 19, 1916, St. Ansgar, Iowa, to William H. and Martha (Glienke) Bruggeman. He farmed all of his life, raising cattle, sheep, hogs, and horses. There were always big gardens on the farm. Hank enjoyed fishing, especially for bullheads at Morristown. He looked forward to holidays and birthdays, as well as the St. Peter Lutheran fish fry. Hank enjoyed spoiling and spending time with the grandchildren.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ernest and sister Alma.

He is survived by grandchildren; Renae and Duane Henaman, Zebadiah Henaman, Zacharian and Cathy Henaman, Heather and Willi Clennon; great grandchildren, Chelsea, Logan, Ashley and Taylor; special friends Nick Tolan, Harm and Lola Loverink, Dean Duenow, Lawrence Bruggeman, Jr., Robert Gleason, Karla Schaefer, Glen Buntrock, and Dean Buntrock.

Debra J. Voight

Funeral services for Debra J. Voight, 46, of Osage, who died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the Faith Home in Osage, were held on Monday, March 17, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating.

Debra Voight was born in Osage on March 24, 1956, the daughter of Gene and Arliene (Wilde) Kuntz. She graduated from Osage High School in 1974. She married Larry Voight on September 13, 1975, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They lived on a farm near Osage. Debra was employed for 22 years at the Osage Farmers National Bank as a teller. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Guild in Osage. Debra loved gardening, quilting and attending school sporting events.

Debra is survived by her husband Larry Voight of Osage; a daughter, Jennifer Christensen and husband Craig of Eagle Grove; two sons, David Voight and Nathan Voight of Osage; parents Gene and Arliene Kuntz of St. Ansgar; five sisters, Kathy Willis and friend Terry Masengill of Dallas Center; Mary Nelson and husband Ken of St. Ansgar; Becky Juenger and husband Brian of Stacyville; Linda Schotanus and husband Gary of Grafton; Janet Kuntz of Ankeny; three brothers. Robert Kuntz and wife Judy of St. Ansgar; Dennis Kuntz and wife Joanne of Clear Lake; Doug Kuntz and friend Trish Laning of Des Moines; grandmother, Rose Wilde of Osage; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Marcella Voight of Osage; three sisters-in-law, Janet Borcherding and husband Mike of St. Ansgar; Brenda Voight and friend, Steve Willey of Owatonna, Minnesota; Carol Peterson and husband Kurt of Mason City; a brother-in-law, Marvin Voight and wife barb of Osage; 24 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Russell Voight; grandfather Roy Wilde; and grandparents, Fred and Lydia Kuntz.

Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage.

Boneta Pederson

Funeral services for Boneta Pederson, 77, of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Mason City, were held on Wednesday, March 19 at First Baptist Church Austin, Minnesota, with Rev R. Allan Flint officiating.

Boneta L. Pederson was born February 7, 1926 to Harry A. and Agnes (Mangen) Young in Austin, Minnesota. She married Olaf Pederson on October 22, 1944 in Austin, Minnesota. They were married during WWII and during the war Boneta worked in a defense plant in the Twin Cities. After Olaf returned from the Navy, they farmed on the family farm near Carpenter, Iowa.

Boneta enjoyed gardening and doing special things for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She crocheted afghans and enjoyed baking and cooking. No one made sugar cookies like Grandma Bonnie.

Boneta is survived by her husband Olaf of Carpenter; four sons, Donald and Penny Pederson of Garner and their children, Jessica and Frank Duregger of Fort Myers, Florida and their children, Chanel and Macy, Piper and Ross Charlton of Elizabethton, TN. and Cole Pederson of Garner; son Marvin and Jill Pederson of Jeffers, Minnesota and their children, Sara and Terry Hemann of Little Cedar and their children, Brooke, Jacob and Kaitlyn, Josh Pederson of Mankato, Minnesota; Tim Pederson of Harlan, Iowa, and Phil Pederson of Brookings, South Dakota; son Paul and Margaret of Carpenter and their children, Lucas and Stacy Brown and daughter, Ella Mae of St. Ansgar, Nathan, Kjersti and Sam of Carpenter; son Steve and Sue Pederson of Monticello, IN. and their children, Kelso, Israel and Drew; her grandchildren, Kris (Cooper) Gunn and husband Tony and children, Austin and Kalee of Los Angeles, California, Tom Cooper of Los Angeles, and Kathi (Cooper) Ferguson and husband Kevin and children, Joshua and Grace of Los Angeles, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and daughter, Beverly.

Burial was in the Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota.
