Dale E. Goodale

Dale E. Goodale, age 72, of Osage, died on Wednesday, March
2, 2011, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 5, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a rosary at
5:30 p.m.
Dale was born on October
14, 1938 at Colwell, Iowa, the son of Burl and Lillian
(Wagner) Goodale. He attended country school and graduated
from high school in New Haven. Dale was united in marriage
to Gertie Orvedal on January 6, 1968, at the St. Peter's
Catholic Church in New Haven. They made their home in
Brownsville, where Dale farmed and raised dogs. Dale loved
hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and
extended family.
Dale is survived by his
wife, Gertie Goodale of Osage; five children, Daisy Huffman
(friend, Scott Bell) of Garner and children, Josh and Aleesa
Huffman, Kenny and Allison Bell; Dale (Jill) Goodale of
Osage and children, Destinee and Tyler Goodale; Dawn (Mike)
Adams of Osage and children, Trisha and Nathen Adams; Dana
(Earl) Kiefer of Marble Rock and children, Nicole and Noah
Kiefer; David (Tami) Goodale of Osage and children, Chloe
and Justin Goodale; five brothers and sisters, Kenneth
Goodale of Osage, Viola (Matt "Junior") Klassen of Adams,
Minnesota, Arlene (Curt) Fox of Elma, Dean (Joan) Goodale of
Plymouth, Irene (Chuck) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; two
sisters-in-law, Veronica Goodale of Manly and Marlene
Goodale of Little Cedar; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Vernon Goodale; a
nephew, Bob Goodale; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Goodale.

Alvina Bruggeman
March 4, 2011
Alvina Bruggeman, 91, passed away on Wednesday, March 2,
2011, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Funeral services were held
at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 5, at the St. Peter
Lutheran Church, Toeterville, with Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea
officiating. Burial was in the St. Peter Cemetery,
Toeterville. Visitation was one hour prior to the services
at the church.
Alvina
LaVonne Adams, was born on July 4, 1919 in Mitchell County,
Iowa, to Leo and Julia (Gartner) Adams. On February 26,
1938, she married Clarence Bruggeman. They farmed one mile
east of Toeterville and then moved one mile north of
Toeterville. In 1945, they purchased a farm two miles north
of Toeterville and lived there until 1971, then built a home
in St. Ansgar.
She became a resident at
the Good Samaritan Care Center in St. Ansgar on December 30,
2010 and really enjoyed and appreciated the loving care she
received.
She was a member of the
St. Peter Lutheran Church. She enjoyed being a member of
Ladies Aid, cutting bars for Fish Fry, cutting pies for
Memorial Day dinner, gardening and canning, rummage sales at
Eldon and Anita's home, visiting with children,
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchild. Alvina
and Clarence spent many enjoyable hours making windmills and
many other woodcrafts.
She will be greatly missed
by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Clarence and parents.
Alvina
is survived by her children, Lorraine (Leo) Kofoot, Eldon
(Anita) Bruggeman, Donna (Paul) Finstuen; six grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and
one sister, Maxine Bruggeman. She also enjoyed her
step-brothers and sisters.

Colonel Sydney J. "Sid" Wilkins
March 9, 2011
Colonel Sydney J. "Sid" Wilkins, 75, of Nora Springs and
formerly of Harpers Ferry, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2011,
at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.
A funeral service was held
at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, March 7, at the First United
Methodist Church, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse
as officiant. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the
time of the service on Monday. Should friends desire,
memorials may be left in Sid's name.
Sydney John Wilkin, III
was born on February 9, 1936 on a farm near Nora Springs, to
Sydney J. Wilkins, II and Engel (Rieman) Wilkins. He
attended school in the Nora Springs School System and
graduated amongst the class of 1954. Following high school
Sid attended Auctioneering College. For many years Sid
farmed and worked as an auctioneer. He was very involved in
swap meets and was well known for founding and coordinating
Sportsman's Exchange since around 1956, an annual swap meet
held near Osage.
In his earlier years Sid
enjoyed trail riding, bowling and raising horses. For many
summers he also set up and operated the Nora Springs Roller
Rink. Sid always had a passion for coon hunting and was one
of the founding members of the Iowa State Coon Hunters
Association. He also liked fishing, canoeing and camping; he
was also an excellent dog trainer. Sid will be greatly
missed by his many hunting companions.
Those grateful in sharing
in Sid's life are his brother-in-law, William Ingersolln of
Grinell; sister-in-law, Alice Wilkins of Nora Springs; and
many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Preceding Sid in death
were his parents; and siblings, Verniece Wilkins, Verdean
Ingersolln, Lorain "Bud" (Margaret) Wilkins, Alva Wilkins,
Harold Wilkins and (Jan) Wilkins.

Donald H. Oudekerk, age 68, of Buffalo, Minnesota,
passed away peacefully from health complications on
Saturday, March 5, 2011.
Visitation will be
held at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, Minnesota, on
Friday, March 11, from 4-8:00 p.m. Private family
services will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 11:00
a.m., at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
Donald was born on
March 13, 1942 in Garner, Iowa, the oldest son of Henry
and Myrtle (Harringa) Oudekerk. Don attended schools in
Garner, Morrison, Illinois and Clear Lake, Iowa,
graduating from the Clear Lake High School in 1960.
After graduation, Don was employed at the Clear Lake
Bakery. On December 15, 1961, he was united in marriage
to Phyllis Peterson. To this union, 3 children were
born, Lisa, Sean and Anthony. In 1964, Don and Phyllis
moved to Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, where he was employed
at States Electric. They later moved to Hanover,
Minnesota. On October 21, 1989, Don married Judith (Havig)
Hungate in Osage. They resided in St. Michael,
Minnesota, later moving to Buffalo, Minnesota. Don
acquired his Real Estate license in 1995 and was a
Realtor at the time of his death.
Don enjoyed fishing,
camping, sports (especially hockey and football) and car
racing. Don had a great sense of humor. He loved
spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; grandparents; and father-in-law.
Donald is survived by
his wife, Judi; children, Lisa (Scott) Wilson, Sean
(Karen) Oudekerk and Tony (Megan) Oudekerk;
stepchildren, Jacquelyn (Don) Fox, Kirk Hungate and
Jennifer (Aaron) Morrison; grandchildren, Josh and
Hannah Wilson, Owen Oudekerk, Charlotte Cooper and Mason
Oudekerk; step-grandchildren, Devin, Colin and Aislinn
Fox, Dustin and Raegan Hungate, Haley, Brooke and Hayden
Morrison; and one step-great-granddaughter, Jaylynn;
three sisters and one brother, Dorothy (Larry) Nicolet,
Delores (Robert) Pinneke, Dianna Berghefer and Duane
(Janet) Oudekerk; mother-in-law, Elaine Havig; and
several nieces and nephews.

The Lord took our angel Sharon Cimmiyotti, age 67, to Heaven
on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Mitchell County Memorial
Hospice Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, March 10, at the Visitation
Catholic Church in Stacyville, with Rev. John Moser and Rev.
Thomas Loomis officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation
Cemetery, Stacyville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday
evening from 4-8:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral
Home, St. Ansgar.
Sharon was born on
October19, 1943 in Austin, Minnesota, to Glenn and Ruth (Heydt)
Lowe. She graduated from the Rose Creek High School in 1961.
She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gordy
Cimmiyotti on August 5, 1961 in Tijuana, Mexico. They
enjoyed 49 ½ years of marriage. She spent over 40 years
working hand in hand building their business, Gordy's Repair
and Implement in Stacyville.
She enjoyed traveling,
camping, biking, racing and going to casinos. She enjoyed
spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and
being "Mom" to all of her camping friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; brother, Don "Red" Lowe and sister-in-law,
Mary Lowe.
Survivors include her
husband, Gordy; children, Glenn Cimmiyotti and wife, Lori of
Stacyville, Corky Follmuth and husband, Steve of Stacyville,
Nita Hinrickson and husband, Al of Pocahontas and Justin
Cimmiyotti and wife, Angela of Osage; 13 grandchildren,
Amber, Kayla, Cari, Garrett, Jennifer, Mackenzie, Logan,
Dillon, Alicia, Josh, Jacob, Jordyn and Maggie; 3
great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; special friend,
Judy Hage; amd three brothers and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that donations be made in her memory to Mayo
Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, for lung cancer research.

Ronald Eugene Schulz, age 73, of Osage, died on Monday,
March 7, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 11, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with grandson Joshua
Schulz officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery
at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m., on
Thursday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Ronald was born on
December 11, 1937 in Mitchell, the son of Harold and Esther
(Baker) Schulz. Ronald married Marjorie Lassahn on October
9, 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made
their home around the Osage area. Ronald worked for the
Smolik Brothers on their steam engines in his younger years.
He enjoyed farming and watching football and basketball.
Ronald is survived by two
daughters, Jean (Les) Perry of Riceville and MayBelle (Rick)
Brockney of Riceville; a son, Kenneth Schulz of New Port
Richey, Florida; 13 grandchildren, Aimee Krebsbach, Aaron
Perry, RoAnn Perry, Michelle (Lance) Bushbaum, Amanda
Brockney, David Brockney, Adam (Terri) Schulz, Joshua I.
(Jessica) Schulz, Matthew (Candace) Schulz, Autumn (Jason)
Weitzel, Megan Schulz, Samantha Schulz and Dakota Schulz; 15
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Cabral of Napa,
California and Patricia (Bill) Moore of Albuquerque, New
Mexico; and a brother, Terry (Linda) Schulz of Osage.
Ronald was preceded in
death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie in 2007; his son,
Ricky Schulz; three grandchildren, Pacer, Aaron and Naomi
Power; and a niece, Laurie Angell.

Forrest "Forky" Ellison

Forrest Ellison, age 89, of Osage, died on Tuesday, March 8,
2011, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 12, at the Faith
Lutheran Home in Osage, with Rev. Peter Chang officiating.
Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Little Cedar.
Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home and will continue one hour
before the services at the Faith Lutheran Home.
Forrest was born on April
3, 1921 in Marathon, Iowa, the son of Charles and Laura
(Bond) Ellison. He graduated from the Little Cedar High
School in 1939. Forrest married his wife of 69 years,
Virginia Young on March 8, 1942 at the Little Cedar Baptist
Church. He farmed for 50 years and was a Pioneer seed
salesman.
Forrest was a member of
the Little Cedar Baptist Church. Forky served on the boards
of the Little Cedar School, Osage Community High School,
Little Cedar Creamery, Little Cedar Elevator and the Liberty
Cemetery Board in Little Cedar. Forrest and Virginia enjoyed
spending time with their grandchildren and in earlier years,
traveling with the Pioneer salesmen and their wives.
Forrest is survived by his
wife, Virginia of Osage; daughter, Sheila O'Shea of Moline,
Illinois; grandchildren, John Thomas O'Shea of Moline,
Illinois, Erin O'Shea of Chicago, Illinois and Jeffrey (Skeeter)
Ellison of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; brothers, Gordon, Howard and Marvin Ellison;
and his son, Charles.

Wilhelmina "Minnie" Penney

Wilhelmina "Minnie" Arndt Penney, age 93, of Osage, died on
Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Osage Rehabilitation and
Health Care Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 16, at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson
officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery at
Little Cedar. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m., before
the services at the church. The family requests that
memorials be given to the Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Minnie was born on
December 9, 1917 near Riceville, the daughter of Adolph and
Mary (Hohn) Arndt. She was baptized and confirmed at the St.
Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville. Minnie was united in
marriage to Howard Penney on July 26, 1943, at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua. While Howard was still in the armed
services, Minnie worked at Rath in Waterloo. In 1945, they
started farming together near Little Cedar. Minnie was a
good wife and partner to Howard. She was also the cook at
the Little Cedar Gun Club. Howard and Minnie moved to Osage
in 1993. In 2003, she became a resident of the Osage
Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Minnie is survived by her
husband of 67 years, Howard Penney of Osage; and many nieces
and nephews.
Minnie was preceded in
death by her parents; her four brothers, Arthur, Albert,
Walter and Edward Arndt; her four sisters, Gertrude Rieken,
Eda Rieken, Martha Timmermann and Hedwig Fouts.

Ralph Edward Brandt
March 23, 2011
Ralph Edward Brandt, of Eureka, Kansas, formerly of
Osage, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the
Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 72.
Memorial services were
held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 20, at the Gospel
Lighthouse Church in Floyd, Iowa, with Pastor Paul
Phillips officiating. Cremation has been effected.
Ralph was born on
December 18, 1938 in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Edward
and Carmen (Kindschuh) Brandt. He was raised in Austin,
Minnesota and Osage, Iowa where he attended school. He
worked at Oliver Tractor as a mechanic before becoming a
trucker. He worked for several different trucking firms
before his retirement in 2000. He moved to Eureka in
2007. Ralph was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist
Church in Eureka.
He is survived by four
children, Colleen (Tom) Brandt of Forest City, Toni
(Duane) Hanson of Osage, Shawna (Brian) Brandt of
Northwood and Jason (Tasha) Brandt of Eureka, Kansas;
nine grandchildren, Zack Brandt, Courtney Foell,
Samantha Hanson, Jesse Lowder, Krystal Brandt, Jase
Brandt, Kassi Brandt, Reis Brandt and Rayna Brandt; one
great-grandchild, Noah Brandt; one
step-great-grandchild, Aiden; and one sister, Marcia
Smith of Osage.

March 23, 2011
Richard R. Sonberg, age 77, of Osage, died on Wednesday,
March 16, 2011, at the Faith Home in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
and Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Following the Funeral
Mass, cremation took place with inurnment in the Sacred
Heart Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7:30 p.m., on Friday,
at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, with a scripture wake
service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued on Saturday until
9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
Richard was born on August
12, 1933, on the family farm near St. Ansgar, the son of
Ralph and Vera (Tesch) Sonberg. He graduated from the St.
Ansgar High School in 1951. Richard attended the Wisconsin
Technical School in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was united in
marriage to Annette Michels on November 24, 1953, at the
Sacred Heart Church in Osage. Richard farmed and also
operated a construction company.
He was a member of the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Richard enjoyed outdoor life, dancing at polka fests in
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Texas, playing cards, working
in his shop, gardening and assisting with the children's
farming operations.
Richard is survived by his
wife, Annette Sonberg of Osage; his children, James (Donna)
Sonberg of Osage, Ron (Sherri) Sonberg of Charles City, Jean
(Ron) Valasek of Osage, Larry (Sheila) Sonberg of Morrison,
Illinois and Connie (Vince) Morische of Osage; 14
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters,
Dorothy Vance of Osage, Marie Mullenbach of Tucson, Arizona
and Alice Chezik of Osage; and one brother, Clifton (Eileen)
Sonberg of Tucson, Arizona.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and one brother, Adrian Sonberg.

Eilene M. Morische
March 23, 2011
Eilene M. Morische, age 84, of Rudd, entered into eternal
rest on Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Westbrook Acres
Nursing Home in Gladbrook, Iowa.
Funeral services were
held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 22, at the St. John's
Lutheran Church south of Osage, with Pastor Byron Northwick
officiating. Burial was in the Calvary
Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7:00 p.m., on Monday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Eilene
was born on December 19, 1926 in Osage, the daughter of John
and Emilie (Troge) Muller. She was baptized and confirmed at
the St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar Township. Eilene
attended the Dudley rural school and graduated from the
Osage High School in 1945. On November 25, 1956, she married
Vern Morische at the St. John's Lutheran Church. Eilene was
employed at Home Trust and Savings Bank for 12 years.
She was a member of the
LWML at St. John's and taught Sunday School for many years.
Eilene enjoyed her family, gardening and flowers, and
helping Vern on the farm.
Eilene
is survived by her husband, Vern Morische of Rudd; her
children, Karen (Walter) Cheeseman of Grundy Center, Marilyn
(Leon) Fahrmann of Alexander and John (Julie) Morische of
Rudd; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Lacey) Cheeseman, Brent
Cheeseman, Emily Cheeseman, Jennifer Fahrmann, Garrett
(Natalie) Fahrmann, Carrie Fahrmann, Rebecca Fahrmann,
Benjamin Fahrmann, Bethany Morische, Kimberly Morische, and
Jeffrey Morische; and four great-grandchildren, Cael, Blake
and Maegan Cheeseman and Riley Fahrmann.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; three brothers, Lloyd, Eldred and Theodore
Muller; and two sisters, Leona Muller and Lorene Brand.

Patrick "Pat" W. Barrett, 57, of Mitchell, died unexpectedly
on Friday, March 18, 2011, from an apparent heart attack
while trucking in South Texas.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Visitation is from 5-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oak
Grove Cemetery in Mitchell, with military honors at the
grave by the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.

Frances Lucille Christiansen

Frances Lucille Christiansen, 88, formerly of St. Ansgar,
passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Windhaven
Assisted Living in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m., at the First
Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Robert Porisch
officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery,
St. Ansgar. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening,
from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St.
Ansgar.
Frances was born on August
13, 1922, on the Hofler Century Farm northeast of Nora
Springs, Iowa, to Edward and Grace (Forbes) Hofler. She
attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated
from the Nora Springs High School. She furthered her
education at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls.
Frances then taught country school at Prairie Center until
the time of her marriage to Larry Christiansen in June of
1944. They lived on various naval bases during WW II and
returned to start farming in Mitchell County.
Frances enjoyed serving as
a Sunday School teacher, 4-H Leader, President of the Ladies
Aid, church circle and various other community services. She
was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 26, 1957.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Larry Christiansen; parents, Edward and
Grace Hofler; and sister, Marcella Howe.
Frances is survived by two
daughters, Janice (Richard) Stanco of Brookfield,
Connecticut and Shirley Fossey of Waterloo, Iowa; three
grandsons, Todd (Marissa) Fossey of Plymouth, Minnesota, Ben
(Melissa) Fossey of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Tim (Amy)
Fossey of Otsego, Minnesota; two step-grandchildren, Steve
(Barbara) Stanco of Danbury, Connecticut and Suzanne
(Fraser) Payne of Hiawassee, Georgia; four
great-grandchildren, Robyn Stanco, Rowan and Addison Fossey
and Mason Fossey; and three sisters, Patricia Little, Aline
Sutton and Anita Gerk.
Memorial donations may be
directed to the First Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice
and Windhaven Assisted Living where Frances recently made
her home in Cedar Falls.

Homer M. "Mac" McIntire, Jr.
March 30, 2011
Homer M. "Mac" McIntire, Jr., age 86, of Waseca, died on
Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Waseca Medical Center.
A funeral mass was held at
11:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 26, at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Waseca, with Rev. Marty Schaefer
officiating. Interment followed in the Woodville Cemetery in
Waseca.
Born in Waseca on November
21, 1924, Homer was the son of Dr. Homer Sr. and Eileen
(Mathews) McIntire. He attended school at Sacred Heart for
eleven years before graduating from the St. Thomas Academy.
Homer served overseas with the United States Army from 1944
until 1946. Upon his return home, he attended and graduated
from St. Thomas College in 1948 with a B.S. Degree in
Biology. On June 16, 1950, Homer was married to Elizabeth
"Betty" Glennon in Miller, South Dakota. Elizabeth and Homer
had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He graduated from the
University of Iowa, College of Pharmacy in 1952. Homer was a
pharmacist for forty years and had been employed at the
Frank Street Pharmacy in Council Bluffs, IA, Gregor
Prescription Shop in Marshalltown, IA and Osage Drug in
Osage, IA. In 1961, Homer and his wife opened the McIntire
Drug Store in Waseca. They continued to operate the store
until merging with Snyder Drug (became Thrifty White Drug)
in Waseca in 1985. Following his retirement, Homer worked
part-time at Thrifty White Drug in Waseca for another seven
years.
He was an active member of
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a fifty year member of
the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Waseca
VFW and American Legion, Waseca Lion's Club, Waseca Lakeside
Club and a founding member of the Waseca Rotary Club. He
enjoyed harness horse racing and traveling with his family.
Homer is survived by his
wife, Betty of Waseca; four children, Homer "Marty" (Becky)
McIntire III of Greendale, Wisconsin, Nancy (David LaMotte)
McIntire of Eagan, John (Ann) McIntire of Chanhassen and
Betsy McIntire of Owatonna; one daughter-in-law, Joan
McIntire; nine grandchildren, Bradley McIntire, Brian
McIntire and fiancé Natalie Unger, Kimberly McIntire, Craig
McIntire, Katie LaMotte, James LaMotte, Josh LaMotte, Eileen
McIntire and Mary McIntire; cousins, Isabel Mong, John
Cummings and Peter Madel and their families; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by both of his parents; one son, Robert McIntire; one
granddaughter, Kelly McIntire; one sister, Kathleen Jungman;
and one brother, John Dyer McIntire.

Donald F. Adams

Donald F. Adams, age 94, of Austin, passed away on
Sunday, March 27, 2011.
Funeral services will
be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 1, at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin, with Rev. Glenn
Monson officiating. Friends may call one hour before the
services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in
the Grandview Cemetery, with military rites by the
American Legion Post #91.
Don served in the U.S.
Army during WW II on Luzon and Leyte in the Philippines
and in Japan. He worked at Hormel's in Austin for 36
years, retiring at 62 years of age.
Survivors include his
wife of 73 years, Lillian; four sons, Gene (Pat), Ron
(Jennie), Gary (Trish) and Reno (Mary); sisters, Bonnie
Grimm (Sonny) and Juanita Arickz; grandchildren;
great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his father, Walter Adams and mother, Wilma
Adams; brothers, Gene, Glen, Rene, Wayland and Dean; and
sisters, Winona Stroberg and Virginia Peronteau.

Gladys Jacobus

Gladys J. Jacobus, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011, at
the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.
Funeral services were held
at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, at the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, Iowa. Rev. Ray E.
Atwood officiated.
She was the oldest of five
children, born to Stephen and Ellen (Fox) Wagner on a farm
southeast of New Haven, Iowa on July 6, 1912. Gladys
attended the New Haven Academy two years, then her family
bought a farm south of Riceville, where they moved and she
attended the Mitchell and Howard County Schools. After she
was out of school she cared for her grandparents, the Chris
Foxe's making her home with them for 2 years. Gladys also
worked for several families in and around Riceville. On
October 10, 1936, she was united in marriage to William
Greeley. To this union three sons were born, namely, James,
John and Richard. The Greeley family farmed around Riceville
and McIntire. After her children were well along in school
she worked at the Silver Grill, Dvorak Snack Bar, Riceville
Hospital and retired from Murphy's Bar and Grill on December
29, 1979 after working there for 14 years.
Gladys and William moved
to Riceville in 1967 and on November 16, 1974 William passed
away very suddenly. On August 9, 1975, Gladys was married to
Ray Jacobus making their home in Riceville. Ray passed away
on September 30, 1991 and Gladys continued to live in their
home.
Gladys enjoyed her home
and loved to cook, bake, crochet and playing cards with her
many friends. She also spent a lot of her time with her
family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves to mourn her
loss, John and Bev Greeley and family and Richard and Dawn
Greeley and family; one brother, Glenn Wagner; two
sisters-in-law, Donna Wagner and Eugenia Wagner; and a large
number of cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death
by one son, James; one great-great-grandchild; one sister,
Agnes (Edmund) Anderson; and two brothers, Leonard and
Robert Wagner. |
Thomas L. Place, M.D.
March 30, 2011
Thomas L. Place, M.D., age 80, of Osage, died on Tuesday,
March 29, 2011, at his home near Osage. According to Tom's
wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no
services.
Tom was born on April 27,
1930 in Janesville, Iowa, the son of Earl and Hazel (Hanawalt)
Place. He grew up on rented farms in Bremer and Butler
Counties. He graduated from the Shell Rock High School in
1947 and from Iowa State Teacher's College (now UNI) in 1953
with a Bachelor's Degree and in 1956 with a Master's Degree.
After graduation, he taught high school science at Humboldt,
Davenport and Vinton. Tom married Beverly Miller, a
registered nurse, in 1950, in Waterloo and had three
children, Sonja, Scott and Mark.
In 1964, he received an
M.D. Degree from the University of Iowa. After completing a
rotating internship at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, he
came to Osage on July 1, 1965 and joined Doctors Eiel,
Spencer, Isham and Crossley at the Osage Medical Group. A
significant factor in choosing Osage was the hospital.
Mitchell County Memorial Hospital had an excellent
reputation at that time. Through the years, other doctors
came to join the group, including Dr. Boeke, who he had
known while in Davenport where they were neighbors. Dr.
Place said, "Although I had other opportunities through the
years, I never seriously considered leaving Osage. My years
of practice here were very rewarding." Tom enjoyed golf and
sailing.
Tom is survived by Beverly
Miller Place of Osage; his children, Sonja (Darryl) Linzy of
Tidewater, Oregon, M. Scott (Deb) Place of Vancouver,
Washington and Mark A. (Janet) Place of Minneapolis,
Minnesota; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
three sisters, Evelyn Elliott of Waverly, Delores (Robert)
Kraai of Vancouver, Washington and Dianne Nagen (special
friend, Gordon Carolus) of Waverly; a brother, Don (Barbara)
Place of Gresham, Oregon; a special aunt, Verna Place of
Janesville; a special cousin, Helen Gallup of Fairbank; and
his dog, Kattie.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Elliott and
Dave Nagen.

Darlene Adams

Darlene Adams, age 77, of Osage, died on Wednesday, March
30, 2011, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center
in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m., on Friday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a scripture
wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Darlene was born on
October 3, 1933 in Lowry, Minnesota, the daughter of Clayton
and Amanda (Anderson) Anderson. She attended schools in St.
Ansgar. On September 17, 1955, she was united in marriage to
Donald C. Adams in Stacyville. Darlene worked at the Co-op
Oil as a bookkeeper and as a seamstress making draperies.
She was known for the cakes that she made for all occasions.
Darlene was a member of
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Guild.
She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Darlene
enjoyed dancing, playing cards, shopping, cooking and
baking, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by her
three sons, Brian (Jan) Adams of Osage and their children,
Roxanne Peoples and her children, Karleena and Eric, Kristi
(Doug) Feldman and their children, Liberty and Vinton, Jason
(Stacey) Adams and their children, Isabella and Lily, Chad
(Jen) Adams; Marty Adams and his fiancée, Karla Hutchins of
New Born, Georgia and his children, Jamie and Nicole Adams;
Terry (Tonya) Adams of Osage and their children, Madison and
Cole; and a brother, Kenneth (Jane) Anderson of Perry.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2009; and a son,
Scott.

George J. Parkhrurst
March 31, 2011
Lieutenant Colonel George J. Parkhrurst, USAF Ret., of
Osage, died on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Faith
Lutheran Home in Osage. He was 91 years old.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, April 4, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. Anna
Blaedel officiating. There will be a flag presentation by
the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be from
1-2:00 p.m. before the services at the funeral home on
Monday. Following the funeral service, cremation will take
place. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Oak Grove
Cemetery in Mitchell.
George was born on April
6, 1919 in Mitchell, Iowa, the son of George and Agnes
(Ross) Parkhurst. He attended Mitchell Schools from grades
K-12. He then attended Iowa State University and worked for
the Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California,
prior to entering Aviation Cadet training in August of 1942.
George served in the European Theater during World War II,
flying the A-26 attack bomber. Following the war, George
returned to Iowa and worked in the Carpenter bank prior to
being activated in the Air Force Reserve for combat service
in Korea. He remained on active duty with the Air Force
until his retirement in 1972, including a tour in Viet Nam
in which he completed 100 missions over North Vietnam. His
combat decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross
and the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters.
George is survived by his
wife of 66 years, Bernadine Parkhurst of Osage; two sons,
Lt. Col. Allen R. Parkhurst, USMCR Ret. of St. Ansgar and
Col. Philip S. Parkhurst, USMC Ret. and his wife, Marilou of
Carlsbad, California; three grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.

Osie Mae Adrian
April 6, 2011
Osie Mae Adrian, of Baudette, passed away on Thursday, March
31, 2011, at the Lakewood Health Center. She was 91 years
old.
Funeral services will be
held on Tuesday, April 5, at the Wabanica Lutheran Church,
at 10:30 a.m. A public visitation was held at the Helgeson
Funeral Chapel in Baudette, on Monday, April 4, from 5-7:00
p.m. and also one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Osie
Mae Adrian, was born on May 18, 1919 in Newburgh Township,
near Carpenter, Iowa, to Lisetta (Klienwort) and Ernest
Hollatz. She graduated from the Carpenter High School In
1936. Osie
married Virgil Adrian in 1940. They lived in Iowa until
1952, when they moved their family to Baudette. They brought
carpenters from Iowa to help them build seven cabins on the
Rainy River. This was the start of Adrian's Resort in
Baudette, Minnesota, which is still owned by the family
today. The resort now can house many families in their 21
cabins, lodge, and campground. Adrian's resort was the first
in Baudette to offer ice fishing packages.
Osie
loved nature, the outdoors, and ice fishing. She trapped
skunks in the early years and had a love for animals. She
played cards every day and looked for people to play cards
with her. She was very intelligent and enjoyed solving
crossword puzzles. She always had the coffee pot on for
friends and guests. Nobody was a stranger to Osie.
Osie
is survived by her children, Faye (Dan) Coughlin of San
Antonio, Texas, Judy (David) Duitscher of Anchorage, Alaska,
Marlene Adrian of Baudette, Darlene (Jim) Ney of Baudette
and Sharon Opp of San Jose, California; grandchildren, Lisa,
Lori, Kelly, Denise, Derrick, Debra, Jimmy, Susan, Brian,
Cory, Kristie and Eric; 14 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Virgil; her parents, Lisetta and Ernest
Hollatz; daughter, Kaye Ann Adrian; son-in-law, Will Opp;
sister, Bernice Ehlke; and brother, Ernest Hollatz Jr. |
