Wayne A. Ambroson
U.S. Marines Corps  Korean Conflict

Leland - Wayne A. Ambroson, age 83, of Leland, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leland, with Pastor Jon Rollefson officiating.

Burial will be in West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Leland VFW Post No. 6161.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Wayne A. Ambroson, 83, a lifelong resident of Leland, passed away on a cool, crisp afternoon with the trees in their beautiful fall foliage and the harvest in full swing.
He was born on July 21, 1929, in rural Leland, the son of Walter A. and Selma T. (Nordskog) Ambroson, where he lived and grew up. He graduated from Forest City High School and enlisted in the Marines during the Korean War. He spent his deployment in Korea and worked as a crew chief on the new, big Sikorsky helicopters, transporting wounded soldiers to the hospital ships and weapons to battle sites.

This dashing young Marine swept Clarine Peterson, the love of his life, off her feet and married her on June 14, 1953, in the only double wedding in the history of West Prairie Church in rural Leland. Clarine's sister, Marlas, married Wayne's long-time friend, Gordon Reimann, at that same wedding.

Wayne and Clarine built their home in rural Leland and Wayne farmed and started his plumbing and heating business, T-W Plumbing & Heating. The business was started in 1955, with Wayne's uncle Tilford (we all called him Hartley) Nordskog, thus the business name. It wasn't too long before Wayne took over the business and ran it by himself. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed talking with all of his customers.

Although he loved to farm, his ever-sensible wife noticed that the busy time for both businesses happened every spring and every fall. As a result, Wayne opted to rent out his farmland and to continue in the plumbing and heating business. He was a well-known electrician and plumber in the Lake Mills community and in surrounding communities, and he served his customers well for over 50 years.

Wayne and Clarine were deeply involved in West Prairie Church, and often Wayne would sing solos or with his family while Clarine accompanied him on the piano or organ. He loved music, especially the beautiful old hymns, and always enjoyed singing in church. Clarine was the church organist for many decades, and she often provided the accompaniment for his singing. For many years, he sang "Were You There" for every Easter sunrise service. He also sung at weddings and funerals, as well as for other occasions.

Wayne and Clarine raised four wonderful children, Louaine, DeAnn, Terry and Larry. He enjoyed his role as Dad but was very grateful for his wife's role in raising these four rambunctious kids. Louaine lives in Manchester, Iowa, and is married to Bill Karkow. They have 10 kids, four "kids-in-law," and two grandbabies. DeAnn lives in Jesup, Iowa, with her beloved cats. Terry lives in Urbandale, Iowa, with his wife, Susan. They have four kids. Larry lives in Newton, Iowa, with his wife, Dianna. They have four kids.

Wayne had 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was proud of every single one of them, including his own kids and their spouses. He liked being surrounded by his family during holidays and always enjoyed family gatherings during holidays. Wayne's whole family shared a close and loving relationship and his kids often took him out to eat, which was one of his favorite activities after his retirement.

Both Wayne and Clarine enjoyed taking trips, and Wayne would sometimes gather his family into his Cessna airplane. Some trips were short, such as going to a flight breakfast (especially if there was a flight show), or to a larger nearby airport with a restaurant for a nice supper. Some trips were longer, such as trips to see family who lived in different states. He loved flying and enjoyed many hours soaring the skies in his beloved airplane.
He also loved to hunt and he enjoyed collecting guns. His favorites were the Brownings that were manufactured in Belgium, but he collected a wide variety of guns. He and his hunting buddies would go to Wyoming and other remote places to show off their prowess with their guns and bag their share of deer, antelope and pheasant. He also loved fishing in Canada with Clarine or his fishing buddies.

Wayne went to be with his Heavenly Father and to join his beloved wife Clarine on Oct. 6. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarine, his parents, Walter and Selma Ambroson, and his sister Maxine Cunningham. He is survived by his four beloved children, Louaine, DeAnn, Terry and Larry, his sister-in-law Marlas Reimann (Leland), his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Allen and Jean Peterson (Leland), and his sister-in-law Betty Haugen (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho), 22 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Wayne will be buried beside his wife of over 55 years at West Prairie, close to their home and to so many others that he loved. We will all miss his laughter, his talent at fixing things, his sense of humor and adventure, and his love for his family.

Anna J. Cooper

FOREST CITY - Anna J. Cooper, 91, of Forest City, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating.

Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., today, Saturday, Oct. 13, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Anna J. Cooper was born on the family farm March 5, 1921, to Clarence and Olive (Elifson) Oline in Independence, Iowa. After graduating from Independence High School, she attended Wartburg College, before leaving to work for Delta Airlines as an air controller in Birmingham, Alabama, and later Atlanta, Georgia. After leaving Delta Airlines, she returned to Independence. It was during this time that she met Elliott E. Cooper. They were united in marriage on November 25, 1945, and enjoyed a union that lasted more than 62 years, ending only with his death in 2008.

After their marriage, the couple moved to Des Moines, Iowa, while Elliott, Sr. completed his education at Drake University. During this time two sons, Elliott, Jr. and Robert, were born to the couple. After Elliott, Sr. completed law school, the family moved to Forest City, Iowa.

Among Anna's many interests were a love of flower gardening, she enjoyed a wide variety of pets, and she was an excellent seamstress, making many of the boy's clothes when they were growing up. She was an avid fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed the many trips she and Elliott, Sr. made to Northern Manitoba chasing after the "big one."

Anna and Elliott, Sr. were avid travelers, and traveled the world together, yet were happiest at home with their family. She loved sports and was an especially enthusiastic fan when watching her children and grandchildren play.

In later years she enjoyed recounting to her grandchildren life on the farm when she was growing up in the '20s and '30s. Horses instead of tractors, lanterns instead of light bulbs, hand pumps instead of water faucets, and, of course, the country school system.

An extremely important part of her life was her church. She was very active in many areas of church life, and received deep satisfaction from participating in the church groups that she belonged to and always lending a helping hand whenever and wherever she could. She was a Christian woman who led a Christian life.

She is survived by her sons, Elliott Cooper, Jr. of Forest City and Robert Cooper and his wife Donna of Forest City and her children Katy and Derek Juhl, grandson Michael Cooper of West Palm Beach, Florida, and granddaughter Amy Cooper and her special friend Joe Johnson of Mason City, Iowa.

Those who wish to give a gift in memory of Anna J. Cooper are asked to consider Hospice of North Iowa.

She received her education at the Immaculate Conception School in Charles City.
On Sept. 27, 1933, Geri was united in marriage to Donald "Dutch" Osier at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. This union was richly blessed with 13 children.

Geri helped Dutch as he farmed in the Roseville and Greene areas. Although Geri worked a few jobs outside the home her primary dedication was to her family. She raised her children to be responsible while teaching them their life skills.

One of Geri's fond memories was following the Greene fire truck with her look-a-like Roberta Barth. She was an avid reader who was almost positive that she had read every book in the library. She expressed her love in the dishes she prepared for her family such as her homemade noodles and vegetable soup. She enjoyed embroidering, cross stitch and did some quilting. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending Sunday mornings, after church, with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren making them her special "egg stuff" and coffee cake.

Equally special were the "Friday cleaning days" with her daughters, followed by tea time and scratch-off tickets.

She was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene, belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the St. Lucy's Circle. She faithfully fulfilled her ministry teaching Sunday school for 20 years. Geri was adored by family and friends alike and will be greatly missed.
