She attended Iowa Teachers College (the University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls and graduated from Mason City Junior College with a degree in education. After teaching grades one through eight in several country schools in Cerro Gordo County, she left her career to marry Glen Roben of Rockwell. Together they farmed near Sheffield for over 50 years and raised four children: Gerald (Sue Vega) of Bellevue, Iowa, Glennys (Robert Compton) of Columbia, S.C., Gail (Larry Johnson) of Butte des Morts, Wis., and Gregory (Monica Natzke) of Oconomowoc, Wis.
