LINCOLN, Neb. - Dorothy Ilene Zimmerman, 85, of Lincoln, passed away
Thursday, February 23, 2012.
She was born in Valparaiso, Neb., on April 9, 1926, to Anton and Edna
(Johnson) Krafka.
Dorothy was a lifetime resident of the Lincoln area. She was raised in
Valparaiso, moving to Wahoo and united in marriage to Kenneth Carl
Zimmerman Sr. on June 1, 1947, in Wahoo, then arriving in Lincoln in the
1960s.
Dorothy is survived by her sons and sister-in -law, Kenneth C. and Paula
Zimmerman, of Mason City, Iowa; Jon David Zimmerman, of Lincoln;
daughter, Nancy Flearl, of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren and spouses,
Joanna and Tony Shade, Marengo, Iowa; Rachelle and Ben Rapstad, Cave
Creek, Arizona; Laurie and Tony Nash, of Iowa City, Iowa; Lisa Tiedeman,
of Ames, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Hannah Shade, Maddie Shade, Kayden
Rapstad, Laurel Tiedeman, Jackson Nash, Julia Nash.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, spouse, Kenneth Carl
Zimmerman Sr.; four brothers and one sister.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012,

Patricia, the daughter of Guy and Ethel (Hardwick) Campbell, was born
October 21, 1933, in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge High on
June 3, 1952, and then attended Fort Dodge Junior College.
After graduation she worked at the Kanawha Nursing Home for a number of
years as a dietary aide. On July 11, 1953, she married James Oral Yeakel
in Rockwell City.
Pat was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved sewing, painting,
doodling and baking and was a member of Kanawha United Methodist Church
and United Methodist Women.
Pat is survived by her children, Barbara (Merlyn) Assink of Kanawha,
Carol Henning and friend Bill of Bouton, Linda (Dave) Robbins of Goodell
and Michael Yeakel of Kanawha; nine grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; brother, Dean Campbell of Des Moines; sisters,
Rosemary Hutchinson of Breezy Point, Minn. and Lila Drollinger of Fort
Dodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, June Flattery and
Bette Laird and brothers, Paul Campbell and Don Campbell.

- Raymond Ira Gettman, Sr. was born December 11, 1921, in Swea City,
Iowa, to George and Pearl (Shaner) Gettman. Raymond was raised in Mason
City and graduated from Mason City High School.
Following high school he served in the
United States Navy
during
World War II
as a bomber pilot receiving the rank of ensign. After his service,
Raymond was united in marriage to Marjorie Hugi in 1945. They were
blessed with four children: Leslie, Susan, Robin, and Raymond, Jr.
Raymond and Marjorie lived in Iowa and moved to Pennsylvania in 1950. In
1963 they moved to Knoxville were Raymond owned and operated the
Knoxville Ready Mix.
Raymond enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching sports, gardening, and
building things. He was also a member of the
V.F.W.
John Myers Post No. 3519 of Knoxville.
Raymond died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at the West Ridge Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville at the age of 90 years, 2 months, and
12 days.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; his companion of several
years Shirley Drake; one sister Darlene Francis; and one son-in-law Mike
Wicks.
He is survived by his children Leslie Wicks of Knoxville, Susan (Steve)
Lewis of Knoxville, Robin Robuck of Shoreview, Minn., and Raymond
(Leslie) Gettman, Jr. of Knoxville; 10 grandchildren: Tricia (Brad)
Kirtley, Tina (Kade) Chambers, Steven (Sheryl) Stanley, Tiffany
Mayfield, Jared Robuck, Jake Robuck, Angel South, Rachel Gettman,
MaKayla Gettman, and Cameran Gettman; 20 great grandchildren; and one
great-great grandchild.
Raymond is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Bob Gettman of
Clear Lake, Dorothy Heiderich Ornberg of Coarse Gold, Calif., Marv
(Jack) Buehner of Daytona Beach, Fla., Faye (Marlyn) Lee of Mason City,
Ron (Jonie) Gettman of Mason City, Bruce (Marlene) Gettman of Mason
City, and Lynda (Doug) McMannes of Mason City.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., today, Tuesday, Feb. 28, at
the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. Military Honors will follow
services. Raymond's family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service
time also today.

Thomas Vale Murphy was born on March 18, 1919, in Waterloo, the son of
Thomas F. and Sadie (Jackson) Murphy. He attended and graduated from
West Waterloo High School amongst the class of 1937. On March 23, 1940,
Thomas was united in marriage to Martha Reid in Waterloo; they would
have celebrated 72 years of marriage this year.
He worked at John Deere in Waterloo for three years before beginning his
lifelong career with the Rock Island Railroad, where he worked for 38
years until his retirement in 1979. He and Martha lived in Manly from
1941 until 2011, when they moved to Northwood.
Tom enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1943 during World War II and served
until he was honorably discharged in April of 1946. Tom enjoyed fishing,
gardening, and canoeing the Boundary Waters.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Nancy (Donald Walker),
Atlanta, Ga.; son, Jim (Kay) Murphy, Forest City; daughter-in-law,
Suzanne, of Forest city; six grandchildren; and eight great
grandchildren.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leora Belle Rust; and a
son, David Murphy.

James was born on Sept. 22, 1933, in Charles City, to Austin P. and
Estelle C. (Keogh) Murray. He graduated from Charles City High School
and then married Doris Gabel on October 4, 1952, in Roseville. This
union was blessed with four children.
Jim was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and Knights of
Columbus. He served on the ASC County Committee for several years and
served his country in the Army. He enjoyed spending time with family and
had a life-long love for farming and green tractors. He enjoyed flying
and having his own plane in which he loved giving the grandkids rides
for a quarter. He would give them 50 cents when they got back on the
ground (the best quarter they ever spent!). Last but not least, Jim
enjoyed "quality time" with his coffee buddies.
Jim is survived by his wife Doris; children: Michael J (Meg) Murray,
Joanne M (Pat O'Reilly, Lori A (Gary) Mehmen and Teri L. (Gary) Pettit;
grandchildren: Dennis Murray, Niklas Neymeyer, Kimberlyn (Matt) Burlage,
Jesse (Renae) Mehmen, Crystal (Mike) Eckhoff, Corey Pettit, Lyndsay
(Nick) Clark, Danielle (John) Pettit-Majewski, Leah (Tom) Halvorson,
step-grandchildren Shawna O'Reilly and Kelly (Ken) O'Reilly-Alber; and
17 Great-Grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, and
father- and mother-in-law, Oscar and Dorothy Gabel.

her own cleaning business. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist
Church where she was active as an usher, helped with Chada Pautz
Fellowship, helped with funerals, Kids Club, and Bible School. She also
was an avid reader. She was a loving wife, mother and friend to all and

David LeRoy Abels
BUFFALO CENTER - David LeRoy Abels was born in Buffalo Center, Iowa,
on October 17, 1937, to Joe and Cora (Eisenhauer) Abels.
He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1956. One of Dave's
favorite lunch spots was the Lake Mills A&W Drive-In, which he
frequented often due to the cute carhop he met and would someday marry.
On June 19, 1960, Dave married Jane Johnson and to this union three
children were born. Dave loved to farm and lived to farm. He was also
involved with the community and served on the local Farmer's Elevator
Board and Congregational Church Board. During the 1970s and '80s he also
delivered motor homes for Winnebago Industries. These trips took him to
47 different states.
Dave loved to fish and enjoyed many memorable fishing trips with family
and friends. Dave enjoyed watching stock car races and attending races
at the nearby dirt tracks. He also had an interest in computers and
spent many hours educating himself learning the new technologies. He
participated in the first on-line computer technology course through a
local college and educated himself in writing his own programs for
friends and businesses. Following this experience he helped several
friends and relatives develop computer skills on their own.
Dave especially appreciated his family and the many friendships he had.
His grandchildren were one of the highlights of his life and he enjoyed
spending time with them.
Dave passed away on Feb. 26, 2012, at the Hancock Memorial Hospital from
complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday March 1st, at the
First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Tim Diehl
officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the church. Burial
will be at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

CLEAR LAKE - Hattie Hilda Floy, 94, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at
the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Friday March 2, at Zion
Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess
and Pastor Kirk Wilkie officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5
p.m.-7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear
Lake and then one hour before the service on Friday at the church.
Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Jae Robert Givens

MOINES - Jae Robert Givens, 74, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at
Taylor House.
Jae was born September 16, 1937, in Hampton, to Morris and Luella (Lage)
Givens. He served in the Iowa National Guard for over 20 years. Jae
enjoyed league bowling and playing golf. He was an Eagle Scout and an
active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where he served as an
usher. Jae's greatest love was spending time with his family and doing
word search puzzles.
Jae is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Michael (Alesha) Givens
and Melanie (Doug Ruby) Givens; grandchildren, Isaac and Kierra Matheny;
a brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at Prince
of Peace Lutheran Church, 2600 Euclid Ave., with burial to follow at 2
p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.

CITY - D. Kent Larson, 70, of Mason City, formerly of Webster City, died
Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Good
Shepherd Health Center in the Chapel, 302 Second St. N.E., with Pastor
Kent Mechler officiating. Upon his wishes, he was cremated and there

Darwin Kent Larson was born November 18, 1941, in Laurens, the son of
Darwin and Marie (Fish) Larson. He attended school in Laurens and
graduated from Laurens High School in 1960. He was united in marriage to
Jeanne Lenz on March 31, 1963, in Whittemore. To this union two
daughters were born, Leslie and Susan.
He was employed at Busak and Shamban Inc. as a sales engineer; he was
with the company for over twenty years until his retirement. Over the
years Kent has resided in Clarion and Webster City before moving to
Mason City and becoming a resident of Good Shepherd Health Center.
Kent enjoyed painting and making home-made Christmas ornaments. He also
had an extensive vintage beer can collection. He was a high school
football referee for over thirty years and received an award from the
Iowa High School Athletic Association for his years of service. He
enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren
who were dear to his heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and
loved him.
He is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Nedved and Gary Rank of
Woodward, Susan Kovarna and husband David of Mason City; grandchildren,
Brynn, Alex and Ian Nedved, Joe, Ben, and Emily Kovarna; sister, Deanna
Craver and husband Larry of Newton; several nieces, nephews, and
brothers and sisters in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Jeanne in 1998.

BELMOND
- Donald D. Thompson, age 81, of Belmond died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at
the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Services for Donald D. Thompson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday March
2, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Cindy Morrison and
Pastor James Harbaugh will officiate. Burial will take place in the
Belmond Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be provided by the
Belmond Honor Guard.
Visitation for Donald D. Thompson will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday
March 1, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond
and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Memorial may be made in Donald D. Thompson's name to the family.
Donald Dean, the son of Glen and Hazel Thomason Thompson was born July
26, 1930, in Goldfield. As a young man, he attended country school near
Goldfield. In 1943, the family moved to Belmond and Don graduated from
Belmond High School in 1947. Don joined in the
U.S. Navy
in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1953.
Don was united in marriage to Helen Loeffler in August of 1952 at the
St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple made their home first
north of Goodell and then later east of Belmond, where they were blessed
with two sons, Douglas Dean and David Don. Don worked as a farmer his
entire life. Don and Helen moved into Belmond in 1981. Helen passed away
in 1987.
On March 4, 1989, he married Mary Wedekin Dorr at St. John's Lutheran
Church in Belmond. Don and Mary made their home in Belmond. Mary passed
away in 2004. Don moved to the Belmond Community Condominiums and then
entered the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond in 2009.
Don loved life. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Belmond
Country Club. Throughout his life he traveled, eventually spending
numerous winters in Florida and Arizona. Don was devoted member of the
St. John Lutheran Church. He served the church in many different offices
and as usher. Don was a true friend to all that knew him. He is
remembered for the pride he had for his family and the love and devotion
he received in return.
Don is survived by a son, David and wife, Rhoda, of Belmond, grandson,
Brian and wife, Sarah, a sister, Darlene Dieger of Belmond, a brother,
Duane and wife, Jean of Belmond, numerous other nieces, nephews, family
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Helen in 1987,
second wife, Mary in 2004, son, Douglas in 1977, exchange student son,
Werner Laekamp, sister-in-law, Dorothy in 1979 and brother-in-law, Paul
Dieger in 1989.

MASON
CITY - Marlys M. Workman, 72, of Mason City, went to live with the Lord
she loved Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit
surrounded by her family.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, at Holy
Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams Ave, Mason City with Monsignor
Joseph J. Slepicka and the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling as ConCelebrants.
Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, Feb. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at
Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City,
where a Scriptural Wake service will be held at 6 p.m.
In honor of Marlys' love for her "little ones", please direct memorials
toward Marlys M. Workman Memorial Fund in care of the Mason City Parks
and Recreation Department.
Marlys Marie Hutson, was born May 8, 1939, in Mason City, to Roy and
Hazel (Crowley) Hutson. She attended Holy Family Catholic School from
kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated in 1957. Following high
school graduation, she pursued a career at Mercy Hospital as an O.B.
Technician for ten years. During this time, she was blessed with three
sons, Michael, Greg, and Scott Boyle, from a previous marriage.
On June 19, 1972, Marlys was united in marriage to Roger D. Workman in
Galena, Ill. They were blessed with two children, Chad and Kellie
Workman. After seven years of raising her own children, Marlys began her
in-home daycare legacy. For twenty-eight years, Marlys continued to
touch the lives of hundreds of children and their families.
Marlys was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and during her high
school years, was a cheerleader for the Holy Family Maroons. She was a
proud member of SPOG and held a perfect meeting attendance. She was
crowned "Lifetime SPOG Queen", by John Dodge, and the late Harold Dixon.
In 1999, Marlys was nominated by one of her "little ones", Laura Piersma,
for "Mother of the Day" and won.
Those grateful in sharing her life are her husband Roger Workman;
children, Michael (Cathy) Boyle, Ankeny, Greg (Mary) Boyle, Omaha Neb.,
Scott Boyle Mason City, Chad (Kristal) Workman, Norwalk, Kellie Workman,
Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Jacob, Daniel, Thomas, Sarah, Jonathon,
Colin Boyle, Adam and Kayla Workman: siblings, Phyliss (Hutson) Marinos
of Mason City, Marian (Dennis) Spletstoser Burnsville, Minn., Charlotte
Hutson, Mason City and John Hutson, Mason City. As well as many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Hazel Hutson, brother,
Leonard "Bud" Hutson, brother-in-law Rex Marinos, nephew Rex "Butch"
Marinos, niece, Patty King, and nephew, William King, and grandparents.
The family would like to extend their overwhelming gratitude and
appreciation to the loving and caring staff of the Muse-Norris Hospice
"home".
