Irvin Marvin Hagen, son of Martin and
Ida Hagen, was born on June 21, 1926, in
Worth County, Iowa. Irvin attended grade
school and graduated from Hamilton
Business College in Mason City with a
degree in accounting.
As a young man, Irvin farmed in the
Hanlontown vicinity before being
employed at the Frank J. Enbusk
Certified Accountants, later known as
McGladrey and Pullen LLP in Mason City,
for 32 years. He was united in marriage
to Gloria Jensen on Nov. 2, 1952, in
Forest City and to this union, three
children were born: Judy, Gary and
Pamela.
Irvin was a Boy Scout leader, a member
and treasurer of Bethlehem Lutheran
Church and served as a bookkeeper for
the Manly Senior Citizen Center.
In his free time, Irvin enjoyed playing
cards, woodworking, camping with his
family and the Friendship Camping group
and spent several winters in the south
with his RV. His greatest love and
enjoyment was his family. Irvin loved
spending every opportunity he had with
his children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Those grateful in sharing his life are
his wife, Gloria, Manly; children, Judy
(Craig) Goetsch, Cedar Falls, Gary
(Toni) Hagen, Mason City, and Pamela
(Randy) Fike, Mason City; eight
grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray
(Lavonne) Hagen, Forest City, and Marlin
(Donna) Hagen, Northwood;
sisters-in-law, Avis Hagen, Northwood,
Clarice Hagen, Northwood, and Ray and
Charlotte Limesand, Victorville, Calif.,
along with extended family members and
many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
two brothers, Harold and Eldon Hagen;
brother- and sister-in-laws, Stanley and
Evelyn Wogen and Paul and Marjorie
Walton; and his nephew, Terry Hagen.

of Britt, passed away Wednesday, Dec.
19, 2012, at Heritage Care Center in
Mason City.
Funeral services for Martha Hanson will

Martha Virginia Schaper was born on July
19, 1908, on the family farm east of
Britt to Henry and Maria (Ward) Schaper.
She was the second-youngest of eight
children.
Martha attended the rural Dickerson
School (Britt No. 7) through the third
grade. In 1919, her parents moved into
Britt but there was no room in the Britt
town school for another fourth-grader so
she was promoted to fifth grade to see
if she could do the work. She did and
graduated from high school in 1925.
Following high school, Martha attended
Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in
Cedar Falls for two years, where she
received a teaching certificate allowing
her to teach in elementary schools. Her
first teaching position was at Cylinder,
Iowa. Later, she taught at Rock-ford.
After she was married, she taught in the
Kanawha Public School.
Martha was united in marriage to Alvin
Hanson on Nov. 1, 1930. They lived in
Kanawha where Alvin was an undertaker
and operated a furniture store. In 1970,
several years after Alvin died, Martha
moved to Britt.
Martha was a life-long member of the
United Methodist Churches in Britt and
Kanawha. She was a member of the Women's
Society of Christian Service (WSCS) and
a church circle. She also taught Sunday
school for fifth- and sixth-graders.
Martha's hobbies included traveling,
reading, playing bridge, golfing and
bowling.
Martha is survived by her numerous
nieces and nephews; great-nieces and
great-nephews; great-great-nieces and
nephews; and great-great-great nieces
and nephews.
Martha is preceded in death by her
parents, her husband Alvin and all of
her siblings.

Toeterville.
David was married to Vickie Thompson on
August 19, 1972. They were blessed with
two daughters, Tammy Susan and Stacy
Lynn.
David graduated from St. Ansgar High
School in 1965. David worked hard all
his life. As a youngster, he could
always be found working with one of the
area farmers during the summer and any
other time he could find. After high
school, he drove semi for Dave Young and
eventually bought his own semi and drove
cross-country for International
Transport for several years. He was on
the delivery crew for Kensett Homes. He
was presently working at Grain Millers
Inc., where he has been employed for
over 25 years.
David's biggest and most enjoyable hobby
was woodworking, which he learned many
tactics from Lawrence Bruggeman, Jr. He
was a perfectionist and had many
requests for his projects, which he
could never keep up with.
David always felt that he owed Marley
Kittleson for hanging in with him
through his toughest days. Like his dad,
David was always known for his loving
sense of humor with kids, nieces,
nephews and now grandkids. They were all
a great joy to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
David is survived by his loving wife,
Vickie; daughters Tammy (Brandon) Kofoot
and Stacy (Chad) Huhn; grandkids Aubree
and Grayson David Kofoot, Grets and Alec
Huhn; borthers Fred (Glory) Bruggeman

Kathleen Louise Detrick was born
February 15, 1930, in Algona, Iowa, the
daughter of Eugene and Helen (Froehlich)
Huber. She grew up in Algona where she
attended school and in 1947 graduated
from St. Cecelia's Academy. After her
schooling she worked at Northwestern
Bell.
On February 5, 1948, Kathleen was united
in marriage to Robert Detrick in Algona.
After their marriage they lived and
farmed north of Algona while raising
their family. She later worked as a
waitress at Van's Cafe, at the Algona
Newspaper and at the Algona Livestock
Auction until 1999.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing,
playing the piano, fishing and doing
crossword puzzles. She was a member of
the Catholic Daughters of the Americas
Court St. Cecelia No. 283 and a past
member of the Union Mothers and
Daughters Club and Bishop Garrigan High
School board member.
Kathleen died Wednesday, December 19,
2012, at the Algona Manor Care Center.
She was 82.
She is survived by her 17 children,

John was born Oct. 10, 1928, in
Hartville, Missouri, the son of John

John married Patricia (Pat) Burl Neal on
Dec. 28, 1946, in Mountain Home, Ark. He
and Pat had five children.
He worked at the Clear Lake Bakery for
37 years.
John and Pat loved to garden, camp and
fish with family and friends, and to
bargain hunt at garage sales. He was a
life-long tinkerer, often buying and
repairing items to be resold at their
own garage sales. He enjoyed woodworking
and was an avid fan of professional
wrestling.
John is survived by his four children:

Vern

Aurora,
Colo. - Vern R. Corporon was born Sept.
2, 1936, in Aredale, Iowa, to Ira Lewis
and Juanita (Schaefer) Corporon.
In his younger years he lived in Kensett
and Manly, Iowa. Vern graduated from
Manly High School.
After high school, Vern enlisted in the
United States Navy. He was a navigator
flying with Military Air Transport and
was stationed around the world.
With an honorable discharge he returned
to Iowa and enrolled at Iowa State
University. Vern earned his B.S. in
Forestry from ISU and began his first
career with the U.S. Forest Service in
Utah's beautiful Manti/LaSalle Forest
Range. Vern began studies for a law
degree at the University of Utah and
received his law degree from the
University of Denver. He began working
as an assistant U.S. attorney and later
went into private practice.
He loved riding dirt bikes, racing his
sailboat and flying airplanes. (He got
his private pilot's license at age 62.)
He also loved spending time with his
wife and family, both at home and on
many wonderful vacations.
In 2004, Vern was diagnosed with cancer
and after fighting valiantly for many
years, he succumbed to the disease on
Dec. 11, 2012.
A memorial service for Vern was held
Dec. 17 at Cherry Hills Community Church
with military rites.
Vern is survived by his wife, Linda; his
sons, Brett and Jeff (Kristy); his
stepdaughters, Sheris (Joe) Baggett and
Tami (Norm) Blum; stepsons, Mark (Julie)
Butcher and Darren Murphy;
grandchildren, Ellie, Scotty, Paris,
Abby, Haden, Andy, Katie and Brandon;
sisters, Marge (Larry) Hahn, LaVonne
(Ronald) Rohn, Judy (Pete) Haun;
brothers, Bob (Nancy), David (Carol),
Les (Linda); and a large extended family
of nieces and nephews.
Vern will be greatly missed. With his
strong faith we know he is rejoicing our
Lord's arms.

Stanley was born on March 14, 1974, in
Chicago, Ill., to Stanley and Jacqueline

Chicago area and was a competitive
swimmer in school, graduating from high
school there. He attended an ITT college
in the Chicago area. He worked for a
cable provider in Chicago and was known
as the cable guy by friends and family.
He moved to the Mason City area where he
married Mary Catherine Rodriguez on
April 29, 2005.
Stanley was a happy, smiling guy who
enjoyed being a joker to friends and
family. He would tell people "no one can
steal my joy." He loved to fish -
especially at Clear Lake - and would get
excited when he caught big cat- fish. He
enjoyed music of all kinds, especially
the music of R. Kelly. He also enjoyed
dancing and movies and was quite good at
trivia regarding all kinds of movies.
Those left to cherish his memories
include his wife, Mary Catherine
Jackson; daughter Autumn Jackson;
sisters, Stephanie, Stanetta, Samantha
and Jennifer Jackson; mother, Jacqueline
Jackson; grandmothers, Cleo Freeman and
Darlene Jackson; along with many aunts,

A funeral Mass for Margaret will be
10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Holy
Family Catholic Church, Mason City,
Iowa, with the Rev. Rodney Allers
officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 26,
from 5 to 7 p.m. at the
Hogan-Bremer-Moor Colonial Chapel, 126
Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a
scriptural wake service beginning at 5
p.m.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Rockford, Iowa.
Margaret was born Dec. 29, 1921, in
Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Peter
and Laura (Himber) Lauer. She graduated
from Mason City High School.
She married Gerald Jeffrey on Oct. 16,
1941. They farmed north of Rockwell for
more than 35 years and moved to Mason
City in 1985.
She enjoyed living on the farm,
traveling and most of all being around
her family. She was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic
Church, Mason City, Iowa.
Margaret is survived by her six
children: Kathy Desannoy, Mason City,
Iowa, Marlys Degen, Mason City, Iowa,
Robert (Ramona) Jeffrey, Mason City,
Iowa, Joanne Pedersen, Mason City, Iowa,
Linda (John) Marino, Clear Lake, Iowa,

Rev. William Lemke
CHETEK,
Wis. - The Rev. William Lemke, 93, of
Chetek, Wis., left us to be with the
Lord on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at
Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 26, at the Burnham-Ours-Kolstad
Family Funeral Home in Chetek, Wis.,
with the Rev. David Holmbeck
officiating.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 27, at Concord Township
Cemetery in Garner, Iowa.
Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner is in
charge of local arrangements.
Born in a farmhouse outside Klemme,
Iowa, in 1919, Bill served his country
in the Army Air Force during World War
II. His first wife, LaVonne Lorenson,
passed away in 1948 while Bill was
attending St. Paul Bible Institute.
After graduating from Kletzing College
in 1951, he pastored churches in
Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.
He also ministered in five European
countries as well as Israel, Mexico,
Indonesia, India and the Philippines
over the years.
The Rev. Lemke led Eden Ministry Center
and Eden Discipleship Training School
from its local inception in 1973 until
recent years. Subsequently the Rev.
Lemke and the staff at Eden affiliated
with Youth with a Mission, an
interdenominational mission outreach;
the base is now "Northwoods." With his
second wife, Lou Rabun, they built their
"dream house" there in 1992. Lou, also
greatly loved as a leader at Eden,
passed away in 1997.
Bill will be interred at her side in
Garner, Iowa.
Bill wrote an autobiography, "The Growth
of a Soul" which outlines his
challenges, his weaknesses and his
spiritual growth over the years.
He closes like this: "I close with
leaving you the Lord's instruction for
my life. 'And whatever you do - no
matter what it is - in word or deed, do
everything in the name of the Lord
Jesus, and in dependence upon his
person, giving praise to God the Father
through Him.'" - Colossians 3:17.
Bill leaves to celebrate his memory
three sons: William (Sien) Lemke,
Valhalla, N.Y., Bryant Lemke,
Minneapolis, Minn., and Bernie Lemke,
Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and
other loving family and friends as well
as large host who benefited from his
gentle love, leadership, teaching and
especially the prayers under his large
hands.
Pastor Bill was preceded in death by his
parents, William and Ethel Lemke; his
first wife, LaVonne; his second wife,
Lou; three sisters; and two brothers.

GARNER
- Ruth Marilyn (Johnson) McKee, 86, of
Garner, Iowa, passed away on Friday,
Dec. 21, 2012, at the Concord Care
Center in Garner.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church (Chapel), 419 N.
Delaware, Mason City, Iowa, with the
Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the

Ruth was born on Oct. 21, 1926, in
Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Tommy
and Josie (Osheim) Johnson. She grew up
in Thompson, Iowa, and graduated from
Thompson High School in 1943. After high
school, she attended Hamilton School of
Business in Mason City, Iowa, where she
graduated in 1944, then began working
for Banker's Life in Mason City.
Ruth married Virgil McKee on Dec. 25,
1952, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Mason City. They made their home in
Ames, Iowa. Ruth worked for the Iowa
State Highway Commission for 23 years
and the City of Ames Health Department
for seven years before she retired. She
was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church
in Ames.
Ruth is survived by her stepson, Roger
McKee and his wife, Maxine, of Tuscon,
Ariz.; two sisters-in-law: MaryAnn
Johnson of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Bonnie
Johnson of Thompson, Iowa. She is also
survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Virgil McKee; her parents,
Tommy and Josie Johnson; two sisters:
Mardelle Johnson and Lois Johnson
McGuire; and two brothers: Neal Johnson
and Paul Johnson.

Bernadine "Bernie" Michael

CITY - Bernadine "Bernie" Michael, 97,
of Charles City, died Sunday, December
23, 2012, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest
Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Bernie Michael will
be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December
26, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory
Gardens, rural Charles City.
The family will greet friends at the
church an hour prior to the service.
Bernadine Audrey Lockey Michael was born
August 15, 1915, in South Dakota, the
daughter of Harry and Martha (Paisley)
Lockey. She graduated from Nashua High
School.
On January 1, 1936, she was united in
marriage to Cecil Michael at Charles
City. Over the years they worked
together selling feed and Pioneer seed
corn. From 1967 to 1976 she was employed
at Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home.
She was a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church, United Methodist
Women, Midis, Peace Circle, Heritage
Club, Royal Neighbors, served as a 4-H
leader and was a Floyd County volunteer.
For 11 years, Bernie and Cecil ran the
Messiah food box. Bernie liked to garden
and will be remembered for her beautiful
flower beds. She enjoyed traveling,
camping and fishing with friends. Bernie
and Cecil always took a great interest
in the Charles City school athletic and
music activities. They enjoyed being
with the youth.
Living family members include a
daughter, Donna (Wendell) Patten of
Charles City; a daughter -in-law, Bev
(Bert) Sorensen of Grand Meadow, Minn.;
five grandchildren, Julie (Brad)
Longueville, Vicki (Paul) Tegland,
Steven Patton, Lori (Patrick) O'Connor
and Renee (Scott) Hottovy; 13 great
grandchildren; and seven great great
grandchildren; three brothers, Clifford
(Faith) Lockey of Bassett, Dale (Joyce)
Lockey of Swan, and Donald Lockey of
California; a sister, Arvana Boyd of
Charles City; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband on September 27, 2001;
a son, Richard "Dick" Michael, a great
grandson, Joshua Jorgensen; a brother,
Lowell Lockey; three sisters, Eleanor
Klinkel, Evelyn Roethler and Martha
Simerson; and several nieces and
nephews.

Terry was born February 20, 1926, in
Mason City, Iowa, the son of Thomas A.
and Margaret (Walsh) Nettleton. He was a
graduate from St. Joseph's High School
in Mason City and continued his
education at Marquette University in
Milwaukee, Wis., where he earned his
undergraduate and Doctor of Dental
Science Degree in 1947. After
graduation, he joined his father in the
dental practice at the Brick and Tile
Building in Mason City.
On September 30, 1950, Terry married
Bonnie M. Leaman at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church. In 1951, he enlisted in
the U.S. Army. He served in a MASH unit
in Korea and was also stationed in Japan
before he was honorably discharged as a
captain in 1953.
He then returned to the dental practice
with his father. He practiced dentistry
for 45 years until his retirement in
1993.
He valued spending time with his friends
and family, particularly his
grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing,
fishing, hunting, sports, reading and
traveling with his wife, spending
several winter months in Arizona.
Terry was a member of St. Joseph's
Catholic Church and the Knights of
Columbus. He served on the St. Joseph's
Parish Council as the council president.
Terry was committed to serving the Mason
City community. He was a member of the
Chamber of Commerce, American Legion,
Mason City Country Club and a life
member of the American Dental
Association. He served as an officer for
local and state dental societies. He
served on the Stebens Foundation and
United Home Bank boards as well as
committees at Mercy Hospital. He also
served as a member and president of the
Newman High School Board and later
served on the Mason City School Board.
Terry is survived by his wife of 62
years, Bonnie Nettleton of Mason City;
his children, Cynthia Hauck and husband
Dr. James of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Diane
Lantvit and husband Edward of Fremont,
Wis., John Nettleton and wife Kathleen
of Plymouth, Minn., and Kurt Nettleton
and wife Susy of Hopkins, Minn.; seven
grandchildren, Andrew, David, Jeffrey,
Matthew, Grady, Thomas and Emily; one
step-granddaughter, Molly McAdam: four
great-grandchildren, Maddy, Josie, Kate
and Olive; his siblings, Connie McCauley
of Blaine, Minn., Robert Nettleton and
wife Pat of Hemet, Calif., Richard
Nettleton and wife Sue of Clear Lake,
Iowa, Dr. Michael Nettleton and wife
Mary of Mason City, Judy Herlyck and
husband Greg of Pueblo, Colo., JoAnn
Rowan and husband Bill of San Antonio,
Texas, and Pat Gansen and husband John
of Nora Springs, Iowa. He is also
survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents
Thomas and his stepmother, Hazel.
