Luvern Allen Stadtlander
Hampton,
Iowa - Luvern Allen Stadtlander, 87,
former resident of Belmond, most
recently of Hampton, died Dec. 8, 2012,
at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.
A funeral service will be held at the
First Reformed Church of Meservey
Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 10:30 a.m. with the
Rev. Rodney Meester officiating the
service. Interment will take place at
the Meservey Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at Andrews
Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E. in
Belmond, from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Monday,
Dec. 10.
Those wishing to express their
sympathies in memorials may wish to
consider the following: Hospice of North
Iowa, the Meservey Reformed Church or
the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.
Luvern Allen Stadtlander, son of Dick
and Rena (Boelman) Stadtlander, was born
Nov. 16, 1925, on a farm near Belmond.
Luvern grew up near Palsville and
attended rural school and graduated
after the eighth grade from a rural
schoolhouse in Wright County. Luvern
then had the obligation to help out on
the family farm near Klemme with his
dad.
Luvern was confirmed in 1943 at the
Meservey Reformed Church. On Aug. 12,
1948, Luvern was united in marriage to
Delores Marie Caquelin. To this union
the couple was blessed with three
children: Sherry, Curtis and Sandra.
To Luvern and Delores, farming was their
way of life. Together they farmed for
numerous years and raised livestock of
hogs, chickens, ducks and dairy cows.
Luvern's agricultural roots grew deep
and he was known for raising different
kinds of crops including hay, oats, corn
and soybeans.
Even after Luvern had made the
transition from the farm life into town,
he was always watching how the crops and
livestock were doing, for the farm life
was still rich in his heart.
Faith was a strong focal point in
Luvern's life. He was an active member
of the Reformed Church of Meservey and
belonged to the church consistory. After
Luvern's retirement of the farm life in
April 1988, he and Delores moved into
the town of Belmond. He enjoyed their
home near the walking trail where he
would be able to catch as many high
school softball games as he could
handle. He was always cheering on his
grandchildren at sporting events.
Luvern enjoyed playing cards with his
friends and appreciated a good game of
500 with the hospital auxiliary. Luvern
and Delores enjoyed spending time on
trips; he and Delores were always ready
for that next adventure.
After Delores' passing away in 2000 he
greatly treasured his chitchats with his
neighbors on the trail and spending time
with his family, friends and those who
delivered Meals on Wheels to him.
In February 2007 Luvern moved to the
Rehabilitation Center in Hampton where
he enjoyed his TV, bingo, great meals,
and of course, teasing the wonderful
staff members. He made the best of his
six years in Hampton. Luvern's heart was
full of caring and good will. His life
was blessed with some of the greatest
fortunes of all, having a strong faith,
great friends and a loving family.
His legacy will live on in the hearts
and minds of his children; son Curtis
(Diane) Stadtlander of Goodell, Iowa;
daughter Sandra Smith and special friend
John Swanson of Nevada, Iowa;
grandchildren Heather Kreger, Erica
Kreger and fiancé Kevin Martos, Holly
(Ronnie) Vickers, Andrew (Aubrey)
Stadtlander, Alyssa Smith, Matthew
Smith; great-grandchildren Keili Martos,
Paisley Vickers, Ashlyn Stadtlander;
sister Mardell (Eugene) Jorgensen;
sister-in-law Sharyl Stadtlander.
Luvern is preceded in death by his wife
of 52 years, Delores; daughter Sherry;
brothers Edward and Marlin.
