Adam Michael Lack was born May 13, 1975, at Mason City, the son of Gary (deceased) and Veronica (Naumann) Lack. Adam spent his childhood in several towns in northern Iowa including Rockford, Cedar Falls and Mason City before moving to Buffalo, Wyo., during his freshman year of high school.

He was a remarkably gifted wrestler, becoming an AAU national champion at the age of 9 and 4-time high school state place winner in Wyoming. He was valedictorian of his class at Buffalo High School, received an academic scholarship to Brown University and recently received his degree in business economics from Brown University in Providence, R.I.

He had formerly owned and operated the Floyd Y restaurant in Floyd. More recently he had operated the Eagle's Nest bar in Nora Springs. Until the time of his death he was an ethanol plant operations supervisor at POET Biorefining.

He enjoyed reading, writing and fishing in his spare time. Adam's life was one of caring for others including his mother, Veronica, and his nieces and nephews. He was deeply thoughtful and loving. He was protective of his loved ones. After the death of his father from cancer in 2004, Adam remained at home to help his mother with managing the family farm while pursuing his business ventures and working at the ethanol plant. One of his best college friends, Ray Rocha, died on Sept. 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center attacks. Another dear friend, Dimitri Gavriel, was later killed in action in Iraq after joining the Marines. Regarding the friends he had lost Adam had written, "I wish I could fish with Dimitri once more, and do anything with Ray." Adam may be described best in his own writing. In relation to his love of family and friends, "One of my favorite occasional occurrences is being awoken early by my giggling nieces, Gabriella and Erica. Time spent with friends, preferably laughing, is a priority for me." In relation to his quest for answers, "I like thunderstorms and truth, because they answer to no one? somewhere there's always an equation I'm working on in my mind that haunts me; but I'll always break it." He described his heroes as "all those who swim against the tide or care for the less fortunate."

He is survived by his mother, Veronica Lack of Nora Springs; five siblings, Anthony Lack of Baytown, Texas, Tanya (Shawn) Hamilton of Dallas, Texas, Heidi (Robert) Thunhorst of Iowa City, Benjamin (Fernanda DeCollo) Lack of Des Moines, and William (Brandi Moon) Lack of Iowa City; and nieces and nephews, Gustav Thunhorst, Erica Lack, Gabriella Lack, and Catherina Lack. His boyish laugh and warm sense of humor will remain with everyone always.

He was born Jan. 8, 1939, in Estherville, Iowa. At an early age, the family moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, and for most of his teen years he worked piloting boats on the lake.

In 1964 he became a newspaper pressman apprentice for the Mason City Globe Gazette where he completed the course and became a journeyman newspaper pressman. After working for the Globe Gazette for six years, he moved the family to the Twin Cities in Minnesota to work for the Minneapolis Star Tribune where he remained until the newspaper downsized and gave him a buyout and early retirement. His hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, working crossword puzzles with his daughters, riding his Harley, playing on his computer and his movie collection. One of the grandkids fondest memories is of Buddy giving them rides on the Buddy bike. David and Judy put many miles on their Harley touring Alaska before parking it for the last time in 2005. The family stated, "David fulfilled a lifelong dream when he moved to Alaska in 1982. He has always wanted to see and travel the highway that his father helped build, so after two trips up he made the big move."

In 2005 he fulfilled another dream when he was baptized with his wife by his grandson Nathaniel.

David is preceded in death by his father, Jean Edwin Snow; one brother, Bruce Snow; and his father and mother-in-law, Floyd and Netha Dodd.

He is survived by his wife, soul mate and best friend of 48 years, Judy Snow of North Pole, Alaska; mother, Fern Zinser of Clear Lake, Iowa; five children, Jacquelin Gold of Anchorage, Alaska, Debora Coe, of Rochester, Minn., Lanyon Snow, of Nora Springs, Iowa (Susan), Suzanne Helgeson of North Pole, Alaska (Donnie), and Traci Burgess of Anchorage, Alaska (Daniel); grandchildren, Nathaniel (Kristin), Megahn (Tarron), Zachary (Jennifer), Trevor, Ashley (fianc, Isaiah), Tanner, Justin (fiance, Joni), Briana, Sara (fianc Lincoln) and Diamond; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Harlan (Gayle) and Larry of Clear Lake; in-laws Jeralyn (Jim) Palmer of Fresno, Calif., and Ivan (Carole) Dodd, of Garner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
