Gary was
a design
engineer
with
Fisher
Controls
in
Marshalltown,
and
later a
director
of
engineering
for
Fisher
in
Austin,
Texas.
In 1988,
Gary
joined
Rosemount
in Eden
Prairie,
Minn.,
where he
was VP
of
engineering
for
Rosemount
and
Fargo
Electronics
and most
recently
CEO of
CXO
Advisors,
an
international
business
consulting
firm
that he
founded.
During
Gary’s
career
he was
awarded
more
than 90
patents.
Gary was
a man of
great
faith
and
loved
his Lord
Jesus
Christ
who
blessed
Gary
with the
gifts of
leadership,
teaching
and
faith.
Gary
loved
family
activities
and
enjoyed
coaching
youth
baseball
for more
than 30
years;
most
recently
with the
Eden
Prairie
Baseball
Association.
He was
an avid
fisherman.

Sophocles D. Marty
Sophocles D. Marty, known as “Dr. Marty” to generations of dermatology patients and as “Soph Marty” to his train friends, passed away May 13, 2007, at the age of 78 in Burnsville, Minn.
He was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y,. to Greek Cypriot immigrant parents. He attended the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., where he met his wife, Rachel. He then attended the Medical College of Virginia.
After a few years he joined the Park Clinic medical practice in Mason City, Iowa, as their first dermatologist. He retired in 1997.
He is survived by his wife Rachel and their four children, Lu, Karen (Mark Filipi), Thorin (Catherine Lageson), and Becky (Paul Conklin), and six grandchildren.
Since childhood, Soph had been fascinated by trains. He had an extensive model railroad, loved railroad photography, and traveled all over the country visiting railroads. He enjoyed going to railroad conventions and had won awards for some of his models. His photographs are in print in a half dozen books and calendars. In his spare time, he read science fiction and railroad magazines. He also liked to cook.
He was a long term member of the Unitarian Universalist fellowship.
A memorial service is planned at The Rivers in Burnsville, where he had resided since Thanksgiving 2006, for Sunday, May 20. A second memorial will be held in Mason City in July.
Thomas Alvin Frisk
Thomas Alvin Frisk, 70, born in Mason City, Iowa, passed away Sunday (May 13, 2007) in Grand Rapids, Minn. He was formerly of Edina. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1955, where he lettered in four sports, Iowa State University in 1959, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and lettered in track, and went on to graduate school at the University of Iowa.
Tom worked 35 years in sales management in the brick and tile industry, served in the U.S. Army, and enjoyed years of membership at Hazeltine National Golf Club and Decathlon Athletic Club.
Tom’s greatest joys were his children, grandchildren, and being “up north” watching wildlife, fishing, and serving a fish fry to family and friends.
He is survived by children, Teri (Ruel), Cathy (Gary), Tom, Mary, David (Jen), and Melissa; grandchildren, Christy, Kelly, Ben, Nico, and Sofia; sisters, Dr. Mary Loken and family, and Sue Lindsay and family.
He is preceded in death by parents A.C. (Cec) and Thelma Frisk.

Larry Paul Bailey
MASON CITY — Larry Paul Bailey, 69, of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Plymouth, was called home on April 24, 2007. He passed away at Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Charles Westendorf officiating from the First Assembly of God Church of Mason City.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Larry was born on Feb. 20, 1938, in Mason City, the son of Oat and Hazel (Turner) Bailey. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1958. He worked at Fibraco, Iowa Beef, and 24 years at Lehigh Portland Cement before retiring in 2000.
He married Sharon Carrott on June 17, 1961.
Larry enjoyed golf, woodworking, sports of all kinds, coin collecting and aviation. He was a member of Radiant Church in Surprise, Ariz., and a past member of Local D 106.
He will be remembered by his family as being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sharon, of Surprise, Ariz.; two children, Penny Bailey of Surprise, Ariz., and Jeffrey Bailey and wife, Danielle, of Newton; grandchildren, Carson, Gabrielle, Maxwell and Arianna Bailey of Newton; siblings, Margaret Quam and her husband, Lyle, of Mason City, Claudia Peterson of Anderson, Mo., Roger Bailey and wife, Roberta, of Des Moines, Harvey Bailey of Mason City, John Bailey and wife, Pat, of Clear Lake, and Spencer Weaver of Northwood; brother-in-law, Michael Carrott and wife, Virginia, of Clear Lake, and Pame (Carrott) Tierney and husband, Don, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

Olaf D. Pederson was born April 1, 1923, to Sever and Julia (Olson) Pederson in Hawley, Minn.
He went to grade school in Meltonville, Iowa, and graduated from Otranto High School.
Olaf married Boneta Young on Oct. 22, 1944, in Austin, Minn. World War II was on when they married and Olaf was stationed in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Steady. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Olaf and Boneta farmed on the family farm near Carpenter. He enjoyed farming especially dairy farming. He also worked for years at Wilson’s in Albert Lea and then at Continental Grain in Northwood.
Olaf enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He liked to play cribbage with them and also like taking them fishing. He also liked in later years going to Northwood and having coffee with friends.
Olaf was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, his wife Boneta; and daughter, Beverly.

HAMPTON — Gerald E. Hoff, 50, of Las Vegas, formerly of Hampton, passed away suddenly April 6, 2007, at his place of employment in Las Vegas, Nev.
Gerald was born Sept. 18, 1956, in Mason City, Iowa. His parents later moved to Hampton where he attended Hampton schools.
He is survived by his parents, Bernard and Norma Hoff, of Belmond; one brother, Lyndsey and his wife, Elizabeth, of Dubuque; one sister, Cynthia Hoff Holder and husband, Robert, of Chicago, Ill.; and several nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and one brother.
Private graveside services will be Friday, May 18, 2007, in the Hampton Cemetery, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating.

James E. Murphy
James E. “Jim” Murphy, 94, formerly of Mason City, died Monday (May 14, 2007) at the Hilltop Retirement Community in Johnson City, N.Y. He donated his body to the Syracuse University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.
A Memorial service will be held at later date.
He was born in Lawler, on July 13, 1912, the son of Frank J. and Anna Marie (McGovern) Murphy. The family moved to Mason City in 1924.
Jim graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, the Mason City Junior College and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He served one year in the U.S. Army and was placed on reserve status.
In February of 1942, he was recalled to active duty after the Pearl Harbor attack. He was assigned to the 48th Mobile Surgical Hospital as a Staff Sgt and X-ray technician. This unit was staffed by personnel from the University of Iowa Hospital.
The 48th was sent to North Africa and was on active duty throughout the North African campaign of World War II in 1942, 1943 and 1944. He was stationed for a short while in Italy and was accepted for Officers training school (OCS). He returned to the United States in 1945 for this assignment but opted to accept an honorable discharge under the “point” system.
He then accepted employment as a Quality Control engineer with the Ansco Film Co. in Binghamton, N.Y. He worked for the company 24 years, then accepted a position with the Navy Department of Photographic Research and Development in Washington D.C., where he remained until his retirement in 1979.
He married Ruth Hanitchek on Sept. 23, 1946, in Binghamton, N.Y. and they made their home in Johnson City, N.Y., and in Springfield, Va. After his retirement they moved to Vetal, N.Y., living there until moving to Hilltop.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, James E. Murphy and his wife, Dr. Patricia Murphy, of Warren, Pa.; daughter, Janice Koncak and her husband, David, of Apalachin, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Johanna Masters and her husband, Tim, of Brockney, Pa.; three granddaughters; a grandson; a great-grandson; three stepgranddaughters; and several stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Mary K. Murphy, of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Norine Murphy, of Miam Springs, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lt. Col. Miles J. Murphy (U.S. Air Force retired) and an infant granddaughter.

CHARLES CITY — Dena Patton, 102, of Charles City, died Wednesday (May 16, 2007) at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville.

Dena J. Krull Patton was born April 28, 1905, at Austinville, the daughter of John and Heikelina (Stoppelmoor) Krull. She received her education at Grundy Center.
On June 28, 1930, she was united in marriage to V.W. Patton. They lived in this area all of their lives, moving to Charles City in 1967.
Dena was a member of the West Saint Charles United Methodist Church.
Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, picking apples and enjoying the outdoors. Dena’s family was precious to her and she treasured the times she could spend with them.
Living family members include three children: Bette Wolfslau, of Walnut Creek, Calif., Edna (Roger) Merfeld, of Rockford, and David (Linda) Patton, of Green Bay, Wis.; seven grandchildren, John Michael Monaghan, Kevin (Kathleen) Monaghan, Dina (Scott) Scarlett, John Merfeld, Ann Marie Merfeld, Patrick Merfeld, and Jeff (Lori) Patton; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a sister, Lyla Perkins, of Clarksville.

Ella Janes
BRITT — Ella Janes, 95, of Britt, passed away Wednesday (May 16, 2007) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Ella Greenfield Janes was born March 23, 1912, at Kamrar, Iowa, in Hamilton County. The daughter of Arend and Biena (Koop) Greenfield, she was baptized in the Kamrar Presbyterian Church on Oct. 6, 1912.
She lived at Kamrar until she was united in marriage to Veryl Janes on Dec. 24, 1930, at Webster City, Iowa. They farmed near Williams, and Blairsburg for 10 years and then moved to a farm near Wesley, where they resided until 1957 when they moved to Britt.
She worked at the coffee shop and the cleaners in Britt for 22 years. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church at Woden and later transferred her membership to the Britt Christian Reformed Church in Britt. She was active in the church with Ladies Aid, Circle and Coffee Break. She helped with the soup suppers and bazaars and also delivered the bulletins for quite awhile. She was a member of the Senior Citizens and enjoyed Congregate Meals at the hospital for many years. She enjoyed her family and friends, flowers — especially African Violets — and feeding and watching the birds. She did a lot of crocheting, embroidery and sewing for herself and others.
She is survived by her four children, Willis Janes and wife, Phyllis, of Britt, Verla Schmidt and husband, Jere, of Britt, Deloris Ruter and husband, Robert, of Kanawha and Keith Janes and wife, Sandy, of Stuart, Fla. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Maria Lenning, of Jewell, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Veryl, in 1990; four brothers; five sisters; and one great-granddaughter in 1984.

Della T. Vaage
FOREST CITY — Della T. Vaage, 98, of Forest City, died Wednesday (May 16, 2007) at The Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile with Lay Pastor David Halverson and Pastor Robert Vaage officiating. Burial will be at Brush Point Cemetery in rural Fertile.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark in Forest City, and an hour prior to service at the church.
Della T. Vaage was born Oct. 6, 1908, on a farm in Hardin County, north of McCallsburg, the daughter of Thomas and Dorthea (Tveit) Chentland. She received her education in rural school near her home. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on Nov. 4, 1923, at Zion Lutheran Church near Garden City.
On Dec. 21, 1929, Della was united in marriage to Carl Vaage in Randall. The couple farmed in the Forest City and Fertile areas.
Della was a busy mother and farmer’s wife. She managed a large chicken business, using egg money to buy school supplies for the kids. She raised a big garden and canned produce and meat. The coffee pot was always on at Della’s and she loved to cook and care for family and friends. Her children remember that she made the best bread in north Iowa. Carl and Della moved to Forest City in 1967. She enjoyed working at the Good Samaritan Center.
She refinished furniture and enjoyed doing light carpentry work. She was a member of Fertile Lutheran Church and active in Ladies Aid there for many years.
Della entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in June 1999. Della went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, May 16, at the age of 98 years.
Della is survived by her children, LaVern Vaage (Karen) of Mason City, Donna Nelson (Larry) of Hanlontown, and Larry Vaage (Shirley) of Forest City. Grandchildren include, Diana Horn (Robb), Susan Feight, Mark Vaage (Jan), Sandra Sharp (Gary), Douglas Vaage, Robert C. Vaage (DeeAnn), Jeff Vaage (Beth), Laura Shropshire, Marie Webb (Hugh), Christine Nelson (Ned Fagg), Cheryl Kapka (David), Lonny Nelson (Myrtle), and Allison Feldhacker (Chris). Also, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Betty Vaage, of Mason City; sister-in-law, Dena Rollefson, of Forest City.
Della was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl in 1987; a son Duane in 1979; five sisters and three brothers.

Cecilia B. ‘Susie’ Falk
STACYVILLE — Cecilia B. “Susie” Falk, 90, of Waterloo, formerly of Stacyville, died Thursday (May 17, 2007) at The Manor Care Health Services of natural causes.
She was born June 15, 1916, in Stacyville, daughter of Frank and Anna Gerber Falk. She graduated from Visitation High School in Stacyville in 1935.
She served her country as a civilian, by helping build aircraft in Omaha during World War II. She worked diligently at many jobs, ending at Bishop’s Buffet for 40 years, retiring in 1986.
Survivors include two sisters, Martha (D.O.) Palmer of San Diego, Calif., and Dorothy (Leo) Streit of Stacyville; two brothers, Clem Falk of Austin, Minn., and Ernie Falk of Stacyville; a sister-in-law, Violet Falk, of Austin, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Clem Wolf, of Waterloo; numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
Preceded by two sisters, Sister Mary Cajetan (Marie) Falk, OSF and Trudy Wolf; a brother, Tony Falk, a sister-in-law, Cele Falk; a brother-in-law, Al Meek; a nephew, Eddie Streit; and a special friend, Cecil L. Wayland.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with burial in the church cemetery.
Public visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 5 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church in Stacyville.

Arthur ‘Art’ F. Kuhlman
CLEAR LAKE — Arthur “Art” F. Kuhlman, 72, of 400 Highway 18 W., Clear Lake, died Thursday (May 17, 2007) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Art was born May 19, 1934, the son of Harvey F. and Mildred (Stathiem) Kuhlman in rural Northwood. Following his graduation from Northwood High School, Art served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge from service, Art returned to Northwood and worked for the railroad.
Art married Dorothy Johnson Aug. 25, 1955. He later drove semi for a number of years throughout the United States and his wife Dorothy enjoyed traveling with him. Art was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Mason City.
Art is survived by his three children, Jo Ann Jensen of Minnesota, Harvey Kuhlman of Mason City and Vickie (Don Jr.) Nichols Fett of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Kella Lodge of Charles City, and Audrey (Dean) Coyle of Floyd; brother, Elton Kuhlman and special friend Frances, of Manly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother LuVerne Kuhlman; an infant sister and brother.

GREENE — A funeral Mass for Wayne Paul Meek, 83, of 510 N. High St., Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greene, with military rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.

Wayne Paul Meek was born May 19, 1923, in Pleasant Grove Township, Floyd County, a son of John H. and Mary (Marzen) Meek, and died on Thursday, May 17, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.
He received his education at the Sacred Heart Academy in Greene and started farming at a very early age for his dad and as a hired man for several neighbors. In 1940 he took over the feed grinding business for his brother for four years.
On April 1, 1944, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corps.
His tour of duty included Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands. Following his discharge on July 21, 1946, he worked for the telephone company as a lineman. On Oct. 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Henrietta Irene Ackley at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene.
They made their home in Greene until 1960. He later worked for Allied Construction for three years and operated a portable feed grinder business for area farmers for six years. He farmed in the Greene area from 1958 to 1976 when they moved into their new home in Greene. Wayne and Henrietta celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1997.
Throughout the years they followed their children and grand children’s school and athletic activities. Wayne continued to farm while working at the Farmers Co-op retiring in 1991. During his retirement years he played a lot of golf and enjoyed flower gardening and watching birds. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene and a member of the Tack Barnett Post 268, American Legion, of Greene for over 60 years.
Living family members include three sons, Jerry (Joni) Meek of Greene, daughter-in-law, Patty Meek, of Ackley, Jeff (Lisa) Meek of Coon Rapids; one daughter, Jayne (Kenneth) Knapp of Greene; 10 grandchildren, Rob (Darci) Meek of Charles City, Lisa (Jon) Duncomb of Osage, John (Roxanne) Meek of Charles City, Rick (friend, Lisa) Meek of Osage, Jamie (Jamie) Meek of Tucson, Ariz., Brandie Meek of Dothan, Ala., Dustie Meek of Dows, Heather Knapp of Cedar Falls, Henry and Harry Meek both of Coon Rapids; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Lynch of Greene, Faith (Paul) Porter of Bellevue, Neb.; one brother, Donald (Cheryl) Meek of Charles City.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta, in 1999; two sons, Duane in 1948 and Jim in 2001; his parents, four sisters, Virginia Reams, Shirley Schlanegan, Mary Jean Ramker and Ruth Heitland; one brother, John Meek.

Jeffrey Michael Pingel
MASON CITY — Jeffrey Michael Pingel, 19, left this world to go walk with the angels on Friday (May 18, 2007) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa after his courageous battle with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Jeff was a 2006 graduate of Mason City High School. While there he attended Special Olympics, enjoying his wheelchair racing, which he received numerous metals and ribbons for. In his junior year he moved to Opportunity Village were he resided until God chose to bring him home.
Jeff loved to play on his PlayStation, beating anyone who dared to challenge him. On beautiful sunny days you could find him traveling the paths in his chair, or just leaning back and enjoying the fresh air. He loved to go out to eat, to the movies, shopping, and listening to music.
Jeff is survived by his mother, Stephanie (Pingel) Johnson; brothers, Tyler and Trenton Piippo and their dad, Darius Piippo, all of Mason City; grandmother, Carrie Pingel, Mason City; grandfather, Doug Pingel, Salt Lake City, Utah; uncle, Brad (Trazee) Pingel and their children, Zoey, Jade, and Max, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; great-grandparents, Alvin (Jeri) Charlson, Clarion, and Otto (Dorothy) Pingel, Swea City; along with numerous relatives and cherished friends who will miss his contagious smile and humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed to the Opportunity Village of Clear Lake for all their care, help and support.

Betty A. Sawyer was born May 10, 1923, at Britt, the daughter of Layton and Ruby (Anderson) Anderson. She was united in marriage to Robert G. Sawyer on June 1, 1946, at Britt.
Betty attended Britt schools and was a graduate of Britt High School. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Omaha. Following their marriage, Bob and Betty moved to Mason City, where they raised two sons.
In 1974, the Sawyer’s moved to Clear Lake. Betty returned to Mason City in December 2002 to make her home at Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living, where she appreciated the excellent care.
Betty was a homemaker whose life was centered on her family. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, and fishing.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Mason City.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Sue) Sawyer, Madison, Wis., Steve (Martie) Sawyer, Mason City; five grandchildren, Nathan Sawyer, New York, N.Y., Genelle (Mike) Cole, Charleston, S.C., Joshua (Lexi) Sawyer, Evanston, Ill., Andrew Sawyer, New York, N.Y., Ryan Sawyer and his fianceé, Erin Becker, Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sawyer, Rockwell; a brother-in-law, Richard (Jackie) Sawyer, New Hope, Minn.

Alvira Thada
CLEAR LAKE — Alvira Thada, 74, of 1704 N. 24th St. in Clear Lake, passed away on Monday (June 18, 2007) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City following a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thornton, with Pastor Milton D. Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, June 19, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake and then one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to W.E.L.C.A. (St. Paul’s Lutheran Women’s Group) in Thornton or to the American Cancer Society.
Alvira Violet Thada, daughter of Alfred and Leona (Steenblock) Meinders, was born on March 5, 1933 in rural Belmond. Her parents farmed in the Thornton area and she graduated from Thornton High School in 1950. She was confirmed at the First Reformed Church in Meservey. She worked a short while as a telephone operator in Mason City.
On October 29, 1950, Alvira was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Dean Thada, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, by Pastor E. Kempmann. After their marriage, she joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thornton and has been a member ever since.
They started farming near Thornton where Alvira worked side by side with Dean. They later moved to a farm in the Meservey area. In 1996 they retired and moved to Clear Lake.
Yard work and gardening were favorite hobbies of Alvira and Dean, and she enjoyed the many hours spent in her beautiful flower beds. They spent many years in Texas and Arizona in the winter months and summer months in Minnesota. They were also active in the Garner Rainbow Swingers square dance club for many years
Alvira is survived by her husband, Dean; children, Byron (Karen) Thada, of Crawfordsville, Ind., Diane (Dan) Schultz, of Council Bluffs, Daryl (Bobbi) Thada, of Cissna Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Amy Schultz, Robin (Joshua) Fowler, Adam (Becky) Thada, and Brad Thada; step-grandchildren Erica (Jason) Rayfield and Mike (Joey) Fischer; four step-great-grandchildren, Jack, Kayla, Jamie, and Justin; brother, Duane (Cheryl) Meinders; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents.

Aaron Donald Wille
Aaron Donald Wille, 82, passed away Monday (June 11, 2007). He was born Jan. 3, 1925 in Klemme, to Cornelius and Marie Wille.
Mr. Wille served his country during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge as part of the 75th Infantry Division, 291st Regiment, Company K.
He was a highly decorated, disabled veteran, who received the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Stars, The Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal World World II, French Libertarian Medal and two Battle Stars from the American Campaign European Theater.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2397, Disabled Vetera ns, The American Legion Post 625 in Iowa, and the Moose and Elk Lodges.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Stewart Wille.
Aaron is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Wille; his daughter Loretta Wille, of Folsom, Calif.; his son, Prescott J. (Lisa) Wille, of Seabrook, Texas; three grandchildren, Byron Venn, of Folsom, Calif., Sophia and Anya Wille, both of Seabrook, Texas. He also leaves behind four sisters: Norma Rockow, Ada Rockow, Ruby Blanchett, and Adala Baily; three brothers: Ray, Glenn and Darwin Wille.
A memorial Mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2007, at St Pius X Catholic Church with inurnment following at the Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Mr. Wille’s name.

MASON CITY — Helene Ruth Wisner, 80, died Friday (June 15, 2007) at the Renown South Meadows Hospital, Reno, Nev.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling, officiating. According to her wishes, Helene’s body will be donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.
A public viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, June 19, 2007, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, where a rosary will be said at 6:15 p.m. followed by a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 302 Fifth St. S.E. Mason City, IA 50401.

Claudia Bailey Pedersen
ANDERSON, Mo. — Claudia Bailey Pedersen, 70, of Anderson, Mo. was killed Saturday (June 16, 2007) in a car accident.
Claudia was born on Nov. 27, 1936 to Oat and Hazel (Turner) Bailey. She married Larry Pedersen in Mason City. They had nine children together: Larry Jr., Mary, Roberta, Richard, Dan, Dale, Joe, Kathy, and Johnny.
Claudia is survived by her children, Larry Jr., Mary Mogon, Roberta Mace, Richard, Dan, Dale, Joe and Kathy; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Also survivng her are her sister, Margaret (Bailey) Quam; brothers, Roger Bailey, Harvey Bailey, John Bailey, and Spencer Weaver.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny; her parents, Oat and Hazel Bailey; her husband, Larry; brothers, Otis Bailey Jr., Eugene Bailey, and Larry Bailey; sisters, Eleanor (Bailey) Weaver, Carolyn Bailey, and Peggy Bailey; sisters-in-law, LaVound (Quam) Bailey and Gloria Bailey.
The funeral for Claudia will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 19, 2007, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Mo.

CLEAR LAKE — Daniel R. Underland, 46, of Clear Lake, died Friday (June 16, 2007).
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, Minn. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, Minn. and one hour before the service.
