Ricky J. Angel

MASON CITY — Ricky J. Angel, 49, of 671 Eighth St. S.E. in Mason City, died Friday (March 23, 2007) at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City following a sudden illness at his home.

A memorial service and celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Paul C. Nelson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Fullerton Funeral Home from noon until Rick’s service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cremation has taken place at Cremation Services of North Iowa in the care of Fullerton Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Ricky J. Angel Memorial Fund.

Thoughts, condolences and stories may be e-mailed to the family on the www.fullertonfh.com Web site.

Ricky Jay Angel was born at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City on September 21, 1957, one of eight children, to Jesse Ronald “Jay” and Verna Lucille (Lowe) Angel. He was baptized at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

Rick was a curious and loving son who spent much time being outdoors. He was often found building rafts and near water. Rick treasured memories of his childhood living near the river with his family, attending state fairs, camping, vacations, watching parades and being a part of family gatherings. He was a junior high school athlete, participating in most of the outdoor sports programs. Rick’s love of music inspired him to play the drums in the former bands called, the “RK Express” and the “D.D.Ts.” In May of 1976, Rick graduated from Mason City High School.

Rick enjoyed wrenching on cars and assisted on the pit crew when his brother, Ron, was racing in the 1970s. His fascination of cars heightened as he developed a love of NASCAR racing, especially cheering for Jeff Gordon. Later, he became his son, Dillon’s biggest stock car racing fan. The two of them were “best friends and shared many an adventure!”

Rick began his employment at Lehigh Cement Company in June of 1977 and was employed as a materials handler with the company for the past 27 years. He was a member of the Boiler Makers Union and will be sadly missed by co-workers who shared in his friendship for many years.

On Aug. 22, 1986, at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City, Rick was united in marriage to his soul-mate, Sheila Mitchell. Rick was the proud father of a daughter, Billie Su and a son, Dillon Jay.

Some of Rick’s leisure activities included fishing for carp in the Winnebago River with Billie, Dillon and Mallory, instigating and pulling off pranks, playing the drums while jamming with his brothers in the garage, setting off fireworks and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Rick always looked forward to visits from Billie and her family from Oklahoma or vacationing in their home. Rick is described by his family as an easy-going man with a great sense of humor!

He was a friend to all and was known to assist anyone with anything at anytime, content to know he helped someone out!

Rick will be dearly missed by all who have shared in his life.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Angel, of Mason City; his daughter, Billie Su and Brad Uhlenhake of Loyal, Okla.; his son, Dillon Jay and Jessica Angel of Mason City; his mother, Verna Angel, of Mason City; his two sisters, Patricia and Bruce Smith and Jayna and Kenneth True, all of Mason City; his two brothers, Ron and Vicki Angel of Traer, Iowa, and Roger Angel of Mason City; his sisters-in-law, Mary Mitchell and Vicki (Joseph) Reuter, all of Mason City, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Thomas and Patricia Nangle of Mason City.

Rick will also be a cherished memory to his two grandchildren, Aliyah Marie Angel and Brooks Gill Uhlenhake and numerous nieces, nephew and other relatives and friends. He was greatly anticipating the arrival of two new grandsons later this year. Rick had a special fondness for his niece, Mallory Ann, who lived in his home for several years. He regarded Mallory’s children, Zoey Elizabeth and Colby Scot Hakes, as if they were his own grandchildren.

Preceding Rick in death are his father, Jesse “Jay” Angel; two sisters, Jody and Valerina Angel; one brother, Kenneth Angel; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Eva Mae Hanson

THORNTON —Eva Mae Hanson, 67, of rural Thornton, a longtime resident of the Belmond, Klemme, Goodell, and Alexander, Iowa, areas, died Saturday (March 24, 2007) at her home in rural Thornton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme, with the Rev. Donna Buckman, officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Andrews Funeral Home-Belmond Chapel, 516 First St. S.E. in Belmond, and continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor’s choice.

Eva Mae Thiemann, was born on May 5, 1939, at Klemme, the daughter of Alvin and Jennie (Albers) Thiemann. She attended Klemme Schools and later completed her G.E.D..

Eva was united in marriage to Larry Hanson on May 24, 1956, in Council Bluffs.

Following their marriage the couple lived in Council Bluffs, and then resided at Klemme, before moving to a farm outside of Greeley, Colo.

They later returned to the Goodell area and then moved to a farm near Belmond in the summer of 1969. Eva had also resided for a time in Alexander before moving her current home south of Thornton.

Throughout her entire life, Eva was a homemaker, devoting her love, energy, and nurturing to her children, Barbara, Douglas, Kenneth, Donna, Roger, and her deceased daughter, Laura. In earlier years, she was employed with Spahn & Rose Lumber in Belmond, and then she went on to work at Printing Services, Inc.

For many years Eva was employed doing research with ACCO Seeds in Belmond and later on worked in housekeeping and assisted with the Respiratory Therapy Department’s clerical work at the Belmond Medical Center.

First, and foremost, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sibling, companion, and friend to many. She loved to be in the middle of the action, be it hosting a summertime barbecue filled with the aroma of grilled burgers and her delicious canned corn, followed by homemade ice cream and her speciality, mouth-watering homemade fudge, or in the middle of a bowling tournaments surrounded by many friends.

Eva truly loved to be in the company of others. The family remembers the house always being full of the neighbor kids when they were little, with Eva cherishing every minute. As the kids grew up, Eva followed her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities, remembering the special times in their lives with cards and gifts, and in more recent years she looked forward to her great-grandchildren becoming a part of her life. They fondly remember times blowing bubbles and making corn with Grandma Eva.

Eva welcomed any opportunity to take a trip with her friends to the casino. She enjoyed traveling and had been on a variety of trips to Louisana, Colorado and Idaho to visit family. A favorite journey was to the Air Show in Omaha, Neb. She was a veteran bowler for more than 35 years on various teams and ladies’ leagues. Eva was a sports fan with her favorite teams being the Hawkeyes and Minnesota Twins.

Eva had numerous past times, including making crafts, plastic weaving, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and making gifts for her family.

She also enjoyed listening to radio and it would be unusual for a visitor to stop by her home and not hear a country tune playing on the radio outside.
