The couple was united in marriage in Des Moines on August 25, 1942. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters: Carolyn, Marilyn, and Sharon.

They moved to the Belmond area in 1952, residing there for a short time before moving to Crystal Lake, Iowa.

In 1961, the Cummingses family moved back to Belmond, and Roy began working for Kinseth Plumbing and Heating. In 1966 Roy became a partner in that business. Roy retired full time from the business in 1986. His pickup truck could often be spotted near the business during his retirement years, as he would often drop by to assist or check up on what had been going on.

He took great pride in keeping his lawn in immaculate shape, loved to feed the deer and birds, and of course he loved taking road trips and adventures with the Model A Club.

In addition, Roy was very much a people person who enjoyed many friendships wherever he was going. A favorite past-time was spending time with the coffee gang at True Value in Belmond, rarely a day would go by when you were unable to spot Roy’s pickup at the hardware store and find Roy inside with his friends visiting over a cup of coffee while they discussed both Belmond and worldly affairs and happenings.

Roy loved spending times in the outdoors and very much looked forward to going on cold water fishing excursions to Minnesota with friends and family. His most recent fishing trip with the sons-in-law and other family members. Roy was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.

Those who knew Roy will remember him as a very outgoing person, dedicated to his wife and family, and a very proud supporter of the Belmond Community. They will remember his proud love for his home state of Missouri and especially Gilman and the great pride he took in his profession in which he was completely self-taught without any formal training.

His family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks the Wright County Hospice workers, doctors, the Belmond Ambulance Crew, and all the friends and family who have kept them going and in their prayers.
