Lupe E. Jimenez
MASON CITY — Lupe E. Jimenez, 94, of 304
1st St. S.W. in Mason City died early
Monday morning (Feb. 14, 2005) at the
Rockwell Community Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at noon on
Thursday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123
2nd St. S.E., Mason City, with Pastor
Thomas W. Healey officiating. Interment
will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery,
Mason City.
The family will greet relatives and
friends from 11 a.m. until noon
Thursday, prior to Lupe's service.
Those wishing to extend memorials or
expressions of sympathy may direct them
to the Lupe E. Jimenez Memorial Fund.
Thoughts, condolences and stories may be
e-mailed to the family on the
www.fullertonfh.com Web site.
Lupe Elizabeth Jimenez was born Dec. 12,
1910, in Handly, Texas, the daughter of
Louis and Dora (Perry) Martinez. Lupe
was the youngest of four children born
to her parents, and she moved to Mason
City during her early youth. Lupe had
always regretted the lack of opportunity
toward formal schooling, however, in her
early years Lupe taught herself to read
and write and eventually spoke quite
fluent Spanish, under the patient
guidance of her father.
Lupe met John Jimenez Sr. in Mason City
and the couple was united in marriage on
August 9, 1927, at St. Joseph Catholic
Church. The couple became the busy and
proud parents of 10 children: five
daughters and five sons. As a family,
they enjoyed spending time together,
particularly going for picnics and
engaging in many long conversations and
discussions.
Lupe's children recall their mother's
compassion in nurturing her large
family. Preparing abundant meals and
eating Sunday meals at the huge, round
oak table with all family members
present is a fond memory. Following the
meal, the table was cleared to
accommodate games of cards or piecing
together jigsaw puzzles. Lupe loved her
kitchen.
She found contentment in cooking at any
time of the day or night. Remembered
baking specialties include her
outstanding dinner biscuits and
empanadas (pumpkin-filled sweet bread).
She was an exceptional Mexican cook of
tamales and tortillas.
Some of Lupe's interests were
socializing with relatives and friends,
shopping, vegetable gardening and
canning. She possessed a deep and
personal Christian faith and was a
former member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Mason City. Lupe was a happy,
easy-going and loving woman.
Lupe and her daughter, Dorothy, lived
together in recent years and shared many
thoughts and daily activities. The two
women looked forward to dining together
at "Gretchens," their favorite
restaurant.
Lupe treasured her 90th birthday party a
few years ago with a special celebration
involving a large number of family and
friends and her good health.
Lupe entered the Rockwell Community
Nursing Home just a few weeks ago.
Lupe will be dearly missed by family and
friends who have shared in her life.
She is survived by her four daughters,
Margaret (John) Levenhagen of Rockwell,
Delores (Murray) McDowall of Mason City,
Louise (Phil) Love of Dubuque and Gloria
Bailey of Mason City; her sons, John
Jimenez Jr. of Peterson, Minn., James
(Betty) Jimenez of Mason City, Ed
Jimenez of Mason City, Thomas (Carmen)
Jimenez of Mason City and Ralph (Laura)
Jimenez of Ft. Myers, Fla. Lupe will
also be a cherished memory of 28
grandchildren, many great-grandchildren
and great-great grandchildren and
numerous other relatives and friends.
Preceding Lupe in death were her
husband, John Jimenez Sr., on April 23,
1980; her daughter, Dorothy Jimenez, on
Feb. 6, 2005; her parents, Louis and
Dora Martinez; two brothers, one sister
and six grandchildren.

Allie Pals was born on
Dec. 25, 1908, on her
parents' farm in Wright
County, near Alexander,
the daughter of Dick L.
and Elizabeth (Kuper)
Pals. Allie was one of
12 children in her
family.
She attended Alexander
Schools and graduated
from Alexander High
School in the Class of
1926. Following high
school she attended Iowa
Falls Junior College
where she majored in
education.
Allie was united in
marriage to Henry
Pastour on Feb. 17, 1932
at the Immanuel Reformed
Church Parsonage.
Their marriage was
blessed with four
children: Dennis,
Vernon, Wayne, and
Norlene.
Allie was a homemaker,
loving wife, and mother
and devoted many years
to raising her children
and supporting her
husband in their
partnership. In the mid
1960s she began working
outside of their home,
first at the Ben
Franklin Store in
Belmond and then shortly
thereafter with the
Belmond Community
Hospital. She had worked
as a nurse's aide at the
hospital for many years
until her retirement at
age 72.
In recent weeks she was
surrounded by the loving
support of her family,
friends, and the
employees at the
hospital where she had
given the same care to
many patients during her
career.
For almost 30 years
Allie resided at the
Belmond Retirement
Community Apartments and
had been active in
various roles there when
the need arose. She had
enjoyed making her
rounds as she walked
throughout the
facilities on a daily
basis.
Allie and Henry were
very supportive of their
children and had been
wonderful fans and
spectators at their many
extra-curricular
activities during their
youth. In later years
Allie enjoyed watching
sports on television and
looked forward to
keeping up on the
Hawkeyes and Cyclones
sports teams.
She was a loving grandma
who received a great
deal of satisfaction
from times spent playing
games with their
grandchildren and baby
siting with them. Her
family will remember her
special homemade cookies
and the handicrafts made
with her loving hands.
She had sewn, done
clothes alterations, and
crocheted many gifts for
family and friends.
Allie looked forward to
family gatherings,
playing cards, and times
spent with friends.
One of her proudest life
dreams was to see all
her grandchildren
graduate and get
married. Her family and
friends will remember
her self-sufficiency,
independence, and loving
ways.
Those left to cherish
the memory of her life
include her sons: Dennis
Pastour, Belmond and
Vernon Pastour and wife,

Her gift of nurturing to
the needs of others

shown through at its
best in recent months
and weeks as she spent
time catering to the
needs and wishes of her
terminally ill daughter,
Bonnie Anderson, prior
to Bonnie's passing on
January 28 of this year.
Her heart was broken by
this devastating loss.
Irene enjoyed the simple
pleasures of life
including precious time
with her family and
friends, fishing and
camping excursions with
her husband prior to his
passing, and anything
that included her
children and
grandchildren.
She always enjoyed
taking Duaner shopping.
She was an excellent
cook and loved to

bells, and salt and
peppershakers. Irene
enjoyed watching various
sports teams including
the Minnesota Twins and
Vikings, the Cyclones,
the Hawkeyes, and the
