MADGE MATZEN


HOT SPRINGS, Ark.— Madge Matzen, 84, died Monday, (Nov. 15, 2004) at her residence in Hot Springs, Ark.

Madge is survived by her husband, Walter Matzen of Hot Springs, Ark.; her five children: Sandra Dee Larsen of Holiday Island, Ark., Christee Kaye Samuelson of Fairfield, Alta Jane Lekwa of Hot Springs, Ark.,Vickie Lou Hahn of Nevada, and Mark Matzen of Trenton, N.J.

Madge, the daughter of Alta and Edward Cordle, was born on Feb. 22, 1920, in Union, Iowa. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1938. Madge was married to Walter Matzen in 1947 in Mason City at the First Christian Church. They became members of the Mason City Church of Christ.

Madge worked for many years at the Park Hospital. In 1962, they moved to Clear Lake and changed their church membership to the Clear Lake Church of Christ. They were very active in growing the membership in the Church. They moved to Blockton, Iowa, in 1976 and continued their faith at the Blockton Christian Church.

Madge became a community activist by working to preserve the town park and encouraging economic development in Blockton. Madge and Walter moved to Hot Springs, Ark., in 2001. Her church family and the community were important parts of her life.

Madge enjoyed canning, baking, knitting and reading. She will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. Whenever anyone was in need, Madge was always there. Her Christmas treat platters and freshly baked pies are famous in Blockton. Her love for life was manifested in her love for children. Madge was always happiest when babies or young children were around. She liked to hold them, joke with them and took a real interest in their lives.

Madge had ten grandchildren: Lisa Meyers, John Larsen, Carey Hungerford, Teresa Fuller, Angela Samuelson, Andrew Lekwa, Kelly Jo McNeill, Stephanie Lonning, Gregg Hahn and Monika Hinson. She also had 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Elizabeth Bailey; four brothers: Ted Cordle, Harry Cordle, Louie Cordle, and Wilson Cordle; and one granddaughter, Lisa Meyers.

OSAGE — Ralph J. Fox Jr., age 78, of Osage, and formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, (Nov. 18, 2004) in Bonita Springs, Fla.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Inurnment will be at the Orchard Cemetery with Flag Presentation by the Orchard American Legion Post 641.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture Wake Service at 7 p.m.

The family requests memorials be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage or the Orchard American Legion Post No. 641.

Ralph was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Osage, the son of Ralph and Catherine (Egan) Fox.

He married Helen R. Kenny on June 25, 1947, in Osage. Helen died in October of 1995. Mr. Fox retired from the Illinois Central Railroad in 1987. He was also a Navy veteran.

Ralph is survived by three daughters: Norma (Jon) Wightman of Cedar Falls, Susan (Don) LaPiere of Naples, Fla., and Sheila (Jim) Brustkern of Raymond; four sons: Michael Fox of Chattaroy, Wash., Jerry (Linda) Fox of Manhattan, Kan., Steve (Donna) Fox of Ottawa, Kan., and Ray (Lori) Fox of Washburn.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters: Dolores Faley of Waterloo, Sister Pauline Fox of Cedar Rapids, Ann Stanek of Cedar Rapids, and Judy (Jim) Leonard of Iowa City; two brothers: Bill Fox of Charles City and Larry (Maradee) Fox of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen, in 1995; and a sister, Sheila Fox.

Funeral services will he held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will take place in Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills.

CLEAR LAKE — Georg Meier, 89, of Clear Lake, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2004) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 Ninth Avenue South, Clear Lake, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Following the funeral Mass and according to his wishes, Georg’s body will be donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals for the further advancement of study, and to help in the research for the purposes of eradicating diseases.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. with a public Scriptural Wake service at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth Street, Clear Lake.

The family of Georg Meier has requested that memorial contributions be made in his memory.

Georg Meier was born in Herrnsberg, Germany, on January 17, 1915, to Johann and Marie Meier. He was one of seven children. Georg served in the German Army and fought on the Russian front during World War II. He was a master carpenter and later earned his degree as a civil engineer in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1953.

He was united in marriage to Margarete Beckmann in 1945, and to this union was born three children: Hartmutt, Wolfgang and Christine. Their son, Hartmutt, preceded him in death in 1953, and his wife, Margarete, preceded him in death in 1964.

He was united in marriage to Karoline Gribat in 1978. She preceded him in death in 1994.

Georg worked for Henkel Construction as a superintendent until his retirement.

He enjoyed walking, fishing, woodworking projects, reading Western novels and visiting relatives in Germany, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Wolfgang Meier and his wife, Mary, of Mason City; and Christine Meier and her husband, Rob Roberson, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren, Lauren and Alex Meier, both of Mason City; a brother-in-law; Willi Beckmann of Clear Lake; a brother and two sisters as well as many nieces and nephews in Germany.

His parents; two wives, Margarete and Karoline; his son, Hartmutt; and two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

OSAGE — Irene Margaret Dunlay Weber, 98, of Osage, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2004) at Faith Home in Osage.

Irene was born May 14, 1906, at the family farm at Bailey, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Jordan) Dunlay. She graduated from McIntire High School in 1924 and from the Parisian School of Beauty Culture in Minneapolis in 1925. After graduating she had a beauty shop for two years at Moshers Dry Goods in Riceville before moving to Chicago.

Irene married Henry Lavene (Venie) Weber in Chicago on April 9, 1928. During World Ware II she and Venie worked at Lockheed in Pasadena, Calif., until the end of the war. They then returned to Iowa and purchased the general store in New Haven and called it “Meyer & Weber General & Feed Store,” with Irene’s sister, Rose, and her husband, Melvin Meyer, in 1946.

They ran the feed store until 1981, when they sold it and moved to Osage upon their retirement.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Irene is survived by a sister, Rose Meyer, of Osage; a granddaughter, Debbie Milot (Michael) of Longmont, Colo.; a grandson, Jonathan Enabnit (Sharon) of Ventura, Calif.; three great-grandchildren: James Egger (Eileen) of Longmont, Colo., Juliann Horan (Neil) of Seattle, Wash., and Nicole D’Alessandro of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a son-in-law, Keith Keim, of Cedar Rapids; three nephews: William Becvar of Decorah, James Dunlay of St. Paul, Minn., and Dennis Dunlay of Perkins, Okla.

She was preceded by her husband Venie; daughter, Beverly Keim; grandson Jeremiah Iowa; three sisters: Ellen Becvar, Kathryn Dunlay, and Mary Dunlay; a brother, Robert Dunlay; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Meyer and George Becvar; and her parents.

BRISTOW — Floyd E. Dralle, 82, of Bristow, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2004) at the Allison Care Center in Allison of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, with the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Bristow. Military services will be provided by the Dumont American Legion post.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont.

Floyd was born on November 21, 1921, in rural Butler County to Henry and Charlotte “Lottie” (Wessels) Dralle and was educated in country schools in the Allison area. He served in the U.S. Army during World Ware II.

On April 23, 1948, at the EUB Parsonage in Bristow, he was united in marriage to Marlyce Rindels.

Floyd was a mechanic at Sorensen Motors in Hampton and a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and the Dumont American Legion.

Floyd enjoyed woodworking, feeding and watching the birds and squirrels, mowing the lawn, going out for meals, and fishing.

He is survived by his daughters: Carole and husband, DeWayne Viet, of Dumont, and Karen and husband, Martin Menken, of Rockwell; a sister, Viola Roberts, of Grundy Center; a brother, Albert Dralle, of Allison; a sister-in-law, Nida Dralle, of Allison; granddaughters: Sheila and husband, Gary Ackerson, of Dumont, Tara and husband, Brad Ufford, of Dumont, Jessica and husband, Steve Britt, of Harlan, and Lesley and husband, Jason Gangwish, of Wayne, Neb.; a grandson, Matthew Menken, of Wayne, Neb.; and great-grandchildren: Clay Ackerson, Keely Ackerson, Triston Ufford, Lexi Ufford, J. Elliot Britt and Isaak Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlyce Rindels, in 1993; five brothers: John, Harry, Leo, Vern and Leland; and one sister, Lucille.

ROCKWELL — Fred Harder Jr., 79, of 611 Main Street E., died Friday (November 19, 2004) at Muse Norris Hospice, in-patient unit, Mason City, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rockwell Cemetery in Rockwell, with the Rev. Ron Bolinger, of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Rockwell, officiating.

Fred chose to be cremated; there will be no visitation held.

Memorials may be given to the Fred Harder, Jr. Memorial Fund or Hospice of North Iowa.

Fred Harder Jr. was born August 17, 1925, at Rockwell, a son of Fred Sr. and Nellie (Clark) Harder. He attended rural Rockwell schools.

Fred worked in the maintenance department for Cerro Gordo County for 19 years, retiring in 1985.

Fred enjoyed baseball, and he especially looked forward to family gatherings.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Harder, Rockwell; a brother in law, Robert Lembke and his wife, Libby, Mason City; a sister-in-law, Carol Lembke, Charles City; and nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Harold, Howard and Warren.

AUSTIN, Minn. — Sharon E. Brandsoy, 47, of Austin, Minn., died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2004) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Kris Wee officiating. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Worlein Funeral Home, 1801 Fourth Street N.W. in Austin on Tuesday and one hour prior the service at the church.

Sharon was born on Jan. 10, 1957, the daughter of Herman A. and Ina S. (Holland) Lester in Forest City, Iowa. She was raised in the Woden area and graduated from Mason City High School. Sharon has lived in Austin, Minn., for the past 30 years.

On Nov. 4, 1978, Sharon married Dean Brandsoy in Austin. She was a computer operator for Hormel Foods and a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, camping, and outdoor activities.

Survivors include her husband, Dean, of Austin; a daughter, Dena Brandsoy of Fridley and her special friend, Ryan Carroll; a son, Matt Brandsoy of Austin and his special friend, Randi Hegna; a sister, Judy Olthoff of Allison; two brothers: Dennis (Janis) Lester of Clear Lake, and Don Lester of Rudd; an uncle, Oscar Satre of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Larry.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City.

A prayer vigil will be recited beginning at 6:30 p.m. that same evening. The visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to Dylan’s service.

TITONKA — Herb Klasse died on Saturday evening (Nov. 20, 2004) at his home in Titonka at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at Ramsey Reformed Church in Titonka on Tuesday, with the Rev. Dennis Redeker officiating. Interment will be at the Ramsey Reformed Church Cemetery in Titonka with military services being provided by American Legion Post No. 21 of Buffalo Center and V.F.W. Post No. 4824.

Visitation will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka.

Herbert Herman Klasse was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Lac Qui Parle County in Minnesota to Max and Minnie (Briemele) Klasse. The family lived in New York and Milwaukee, Wis., before settling in North Iowa.

Herb was schooled in country schools in Winnebago and Kossuth Counties in Iowa.

On Jan. 5, 1955, Herb married Clara Aukes in Gainesville, Texas. They have lived their married life at their home in the south part of Titonka. In 1986, they purchased their first motor home and spent their winters in warmer climates and many days in the summer at various lakes in Minnesota.

Herb purchased his first airplane, a Kair Keen, in 1940. After much practice and studying he earned his commercial license and instructors rating. For many years he operated an airstrip at Titonka and at Buffalo Center. Many local men became pilots through his encouragement. At one time he had 40 students.

During World War II, Herb served his country in the U.S. Air Force with overseas duty as an engineer and top gunner on a B-24, stationed in Italy. Following his discharge, he did aerial spraying and “daredevil” aerobatics on Titonka Indian Days. As time went by he sold his airplanes and purchased heavy equipment to do excavation and landscaping.

In 1986, he purchased a Tierra Ultra-Lite and pursued another hobby, that of aerial photography. He took many pictures of the surrounding farms and has aerial photos of most of the public areas within 30 miles of Titonka.

Herb was a good natured fellow, with a hearty laugh, who loved to buzz people in his planes. Through the years, he cleared snow from sidewalks and driveways for many residents of Titonka. Herb was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post No. 21, Buffalo Center and V.F.W. Post No. 4824.

Survivors include his wife, Clara, of Titonka; sister-in-law, Darlene Klasse, of Forest City; as well as six nieces; two nephews; and many extended nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Gerhardt, Clarence and Walter; and one sister, Arlene Klasse.

BELMOND — Paul Anthony Rogalla, 90, of Belmond, passed away Saturday, (Nov. 20, 2004) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services for Paul A. Rogalla will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, with Pastor Lowell H. Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Paul Anthony Rogalla, the son of Paul and Marie Novak Rogalla, was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Chicago. He grew up and attended school in Chicago.

Paul was united in marriage to Olga Loeffler on July 8, 1939, in Chicago. The couple made their home in Chicago and moved to Belmond in 1946. Paul and Olga raised their family in Belmond. Paul worked as an interior and exterior painter. Painting and hanging wall-paper was a labor of love that Paul never really retired from.

Paul was an avid gardener; he could fix anything. His hobbies included bowling with the Senior League, golfing, playing cribbage, fishing, and also ice fishing. Paul was a very giving person.

He was a member of the Belmond Country Club and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belmond.

Paul is survived by four children: Gloria Corbin and husband, Charles, of Coralville, Bonnie Jenison of Ames, Paul and wife, Kris, of Indianola, and Carmen Johnson and husband, Danny, of Belmond; ten grandchildren: Allison Corbin, Chad Corbin, Gina Evans, Tami Trotter, Judson Jenison, Charles Rogalla, Chanda Englin, Donnie Johnson, Ryan Rogalla, and Brandon Rogalla; and great-grandchildren: Naomi, Taylor, Maya, Jack and Ty.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 63 years, Olga, in 2001; son, Charles, in 1977, four brothers and one sister.

MASON CITY — Dylan Dean Bailey of 9 S. 20th St. in Clear Lake died Saturday afternoon (Nov. 20, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with a prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Dylan’s service on Wednesday at the church.

Dylan Dean Bailey was born Sept. 9, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City to his loving parents, Todd Dean and Ann Margaret (Popowski) Bailey. He was the first-born child to his parents.

From the very beginning, Dylan expressed his love of cuddling and his independent personality. After a time of being held and snuggled with, he was content to be laid down so he could freely coo and kick.

Dylan was extremely alert and seemed to notice everything that surrounded him. In particular, Dylan already held a fascination for riding high in Daddy’s big, red, Chevy truck.

Watching the fish in the aquarium also sparked his curiosity.

Dylan’s Daddy and Mommy claim, “Dylan had a smile that would totally melt your heart and he will forever be our special angel!”

Even though Dylan was in their lives for only a short time, he brought so much joy and love into the hearts and lives of his entire family and friends.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers for Dylan’s funeral service are Chad and Tucker Bailey, Kevin Bailey, Dean Popowski and Matthew Popowski.

ST. ANSGAR — Lawrence J.H. Bruggeman Sr., 94, of St. Ansgar passed away Sunday (Nov. 21, 2004) at Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Toeterville.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.

Lawrence was born on the family farm northwest of Toeterville on July 11, 1910, to Albert and Sara (Ehlke) Bruggeman.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville. He attended rural schools in the Toeterville area.

On Oct. 15, 1938, he married Maxine Adams at the Toeterville parsonage. Lawrence and Maxine farmed on the family farm until 1969 when they moved to St. Ansgar. Lawrence continued to farm for many years with his son, Lawrence Jr.

He was an active lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. He served on the building committee when the new church was built and served on the church council.

Lawrence enjoyed his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of St. Ansgar; one daughter, Gloria and Richard Brunner of Toeterville; three sons, Lawrence Jr. and Carol Bruggeman of St. Ansgar; Ron and Jeanne Bruggeman of Northwood; and Dar and Donna Bruggeman of St. Ansgar; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence and Alvina Bruggeman of St. Ansgar; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Bruggeman of St. Ansgar; and nieces and nephews.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Larry Eugene Bartleson, 65, of Flowery Branch, Ga., died Sunday (Nov. 21, 2004).

He loved politics, gardening, boating, traveling, reading and fishing.

He worked 25 years with Yokohoma Tire Corp. and 10-plus years with Firestone, which gave him the opportunity to travel the world.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree of International Management from Thunder Bird School.

He was vice president of The Cat Sitter Ltd.

He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Linda Jeanne Bagne Bartleson; daughter, Mindy Jean Bartleson, of Flowery Branch, Ga.; son, Kyle K. Bartleson, of Lawrenceville; daughter, Dorian J. McCollam, of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Philip L. Bartleson, of Burlington; sister, Mary Ann Hodges, of Des Moines; Lois Jean Santos, of Melbourne, Fla.; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

BRISTOW — Floyd E. Dralle, 82, of Bristow died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2004) at the Allison Care Center in Allison of natural causes.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont with the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Bristow. Military services provided by the Dumont American Legion.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1921, in rural Butler County, Iowa, to Henry and Charlotte “Lottie” (Wessels) Dralle. Floyd attended country schools in the Allison area.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 until 1945 and received these awards: American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Silver Battle Star Medal, one Service Stripe, three Overseas Service Bars and Good Conduct Medal.

Floyd married Marlyce Rindels on April 23, 1948, in the EUB Parsonage in Bristow, Iowa.

He worked at Sorensen Motor’s in Hampton, Iowa, for many years.

Floyd was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, Iowa, and a member of the Dumont American Legion.

He enjoyed spending time with and visiting family, friends and neighbors, woodworking, feeding and watching the birds and squirrels, mowing the lawn, going out for meals and fishing.

Floyd is survived by his daughters, Carole (and DeWayne) Viet of Dumont, and Karen (and Martin) Menken of Rockwell; sister, Viola Roberts of Grundy Center; brother, Albert (Nida) Dralle of Allison; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dralle of Clarksville; Donna Dralle of Waverly; Margaret Dralle of Allison; granddaughters, Sheila and Gary Ackerson of Dumont, Tara and Brad Ufford of Dumont, Jessica and Steve Britt of Harlan, Lesley and Jason Gangwish of Wayne, Neb.; and grandson, Matthew Menken of Wayne, Neb.; great-grandchildren: Clay Ackerson, Keely Ackerson, Triston Ufford, Lexi Ufford, Elliott Britt and Isaak Britt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Honoria Elenore Baumann was born July 27, 1906, in Willey, Iowa, daughter of Andrew S. and Mary Ann (Loesche) Miller. She spent her teenage years in Rockwell where she attended country school.

Elenore married Michael Pat Baumann on June 2, 1931, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. They then began farming in the Whittemore area where she lived until entering the Rockwell Care Center in February of 1995.

Elenore loved tending to her family, collecting antiques with her husband, and raising flowers and chickens. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking.

She was a past member of the CDA, the Rosary Society, and the Home Makers Club in Whittemore.

Elenore is survived by three children, Derrold “Tiny” Baumann and his wife, Becky, of Plover, Mary Ann Taylor and her husband, Bryan, of Rockwell, and Jody Johnson and her husband, Ron, of Mason City; 13 grandchildren, Patsy VanGampleare, Theresa Taylor, Bob Taylor, Carolyn Schmidt, Bryan C. Taylor, Mary Schenck, Jean Lindsay, Rose Walker, Mark Baumann, Joyce Rosenmeyer, Nancy Arthur, Angela Samson and Andrew Johnson; 20 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Stella Porter was born in McCallsburg, Iowa, on March 13, 1908, the daughter of William and Emma (Jenson) Olson. She received her elementary education in rural school near Crystal Lake, attended Forest City High School and went on to beauty school in Des Moines.

Stella worked for three years as a beauty operator and in September of 1932 she married Wayne C. Filble. The couple moved to Mason City in 1948 and made their home there. Mr. Filble passed away in 1953.

Stella married Al Porter on June 16, 1957, in Forest City. The couple moved to Clear Lake in 1961, then to Forest City in the mid 1990s.

Stella worked at Deckers for 20 years before retiring in 1969.

She loved music, played the piano and organ and liked to go out dancing. She was a member of the First Congregation Church in Forest City.

Stella is survived by a sister, Ellen Sandell of Forest City; a brother, Leonard Olson of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Wayne and Al; two brothers, Annel and Emory Olson; infant brother Leonard; and a sister, Irene Righter.

CLEAR LAKE — Harold G. Kramer, 90, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Nov. 23, 2004) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Highway 18 W. in Clear Lake, with Pastor David Wiersbe officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake.

Harold G. Kramer was born March 16, 1914, in Ackley, the son of George and Josephine (Gast) Kramer.

Harold attended school in Ackley and farmed with his dad.

He was united in marriage to Alice (Bakker) Kramer on Feb. 11, 1935 in Whitten, Iowa. To this union nine children were born.

Harold owned the Kramer Truck Stop in Blairsburg. He moved to Baudette, Minn., were he farmed and owned Kramer Disposal Service. After retiring, they moved to Clear Lake.

Harold loved to take hunting trips to Wyoming, fishing trips to Canada, fixing things, carpentry, heavy equipment; but his greatest love was his family.

He was a member of Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake.

He is survived by wife, Alice Kramer, of Clear Lake; children, Janice and her husband, Gerald Lemon, of Fairmont, Minn., Joyce and her husband, James Pruismann, of Bondurant, Mervin and his wife, Patricia Kramer, of Urbandale, Larry and his wife, Joan Kramer, of Poulsbo, Wash., Julie and her husband, Jim Hanson, of Clear Lake, and George and his wife, Mary Kramer, of Baudette, Minn., daughter-in-law, Barbara Halsne, of Blairsburg, son-in-law, Elmer Kalvig, of Clear Lake; sisters, Ruth Moon, of Tulsa, Okla., Esther and her husband, Wally Getting, of Grundy Center, and Arlene Taylor, of Eldora; brothers, Merle and his wife, Mick, of Steamboat Rock, Gerhart and his wife, Edna Kramer, of Ackley; 24 grandchildren; and 37 great- grandchildren.

CHARLES CITY — Kevin Lovrien, 37, of Charles City, died Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Kevin Lovrien will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City, with the Rev. Paul Phillips, pastor of the Gospel Lighthouse, officiating. Kevin Thomas Lovrien was born July 1, 1967, at Emmetsburg, the son of Kenneth and Mary (White) Lovrien. He graduated from the Charles City High School and attended the Phoenix Institute of Technology and University of Iowa.

Kevin served in the United States Army and also with the 1133rd Transportation Co. of the National Guard.

He was a radar technician with Lockheed Martin Defense Industries in Colorado.

Kevin’s hobbies included flying, paratrooping and collecting videos and DVDs.

Living family members include three children, Sam Lovrien, of Clarksville, and Catlyn and Cody Lovrien, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; his parents, Kenneth and Mary Lovrien of Charles City; two sisters, Becky (Jim) Orcutt and Marie Lovrien both of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Lovrien, in 1991.
