MARIE A. DOUGHAN


WEBSTER CITY — Marie A. Doughan, 101, of Webster City, formerly of Wesley, died Monday (Nov. 8, 2004) at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1010 Des Moines St., Webster City, with Father John R. Flaherty officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral Mass on Friday at the church.

Marie Ann Doughan was born Jan. 28, 1903, on a farm near Wesley, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna Loebig.

She was united in marriage to Elmer Doughan on June 20, 1922, by Father Dominic Lickteig, cousin of the bride.

Marie and Elmer lived on a farm near Stilson, Iowa, and then moved to a farm near Wesley and later moved to a home in Wesley.

Marie enjoyed her family and many friends and the center of her life was her family and faith.

She was very active in St. Joseph’s parish, including a membership in the CDA and Altar Society.

Her other interests were playing cards, bingo, and decorating her home.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters: Sister Mary K. Doughan, of Clarion, and Audrey Walmsley of Webster City; a sister, Mildred Arndorfer, of Algona; eight grand-children: Dawn, Ann, Jim, Terri, Jean, Kim, Michelle and David; and 11 great-grand-children; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer, on June 21, 1976; a daughter, Sister Adele, in 1989; a son-in-law, J.D. Walmsley; and a brother, Victor Loebig.

In a question presented to her months before she died about her age of 101, she replied with a smile, “God has been good to me.”

In remembrance of Marie, memorials may be given to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Webster City.

GENEVIEVE A. BLACKSTAD


MASON CITY — Genevieve Alma Blackstad, 81, of 831 Sixth St. S.W., died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with her daughter at her side.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church, 225 Armstrong Blvd. S., St. James, Minn., with the Rev. Amy Jo Bur, officiating. Burial will be in Albion Lutheran Cemetery, Godahl, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pease Funeral Home, 54 Sixth Ave. S. in St. James Minn.

Memorials may be directed to the Genevieve A. Blackstad Memorial Fund.

Genevieve Alma Blackstad was born Nov. 10, 1922, at Star Prairie, Wis., a daughter of Albin and Jeanette (Boucher) Moe.

Genevieve attended country school near Cumberland, Wis. The second oldest of 12 children, she completed the eighth grade, and then stayed at home to help her mother with her siblings.

In her early twenties, Genevieve moved to St. Paul, Minn. She worked at White Castle Hamburgers for several years.

On Feb. 2, 1960, she married Jerome Blackstad at St. Paul, Minn. In 1967, they moved to the Julian and Jeanette Blackstad farm near Godahl, Minn., to help with the family fertilizer business.

Genevieve also worked at 3M Co., New Ulm, Minn., retiring in 1982.

Following her retirement, Genevieve did home care work in Mountain Lake, Minn.

She moved to Mason City in 1996 to be near her daughter.

Genevieve was an extremely thoughtful, kind and giving person. She had a great love of nature, which showed, through her beautiful flower gardens and her love of animals.

Genevieve was very active throughout her life. She enjoyed making crafts and quilting. She was especially proud of her Norwegian and Swedish heritage.

In 2002, she was reunited with her son after 46 years, and welcomed he and his family into her life.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Stoesz and her fiance, Bill Sabel, of Mason City; a son, Tom Florentine, of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren: Joey, Michelle, and Julie Florentine, of Hammond Ind.; three brothers: Roy (Reta) Moe, of Frederick, Wis.; Leo Moe, of Cumberland, Wis.; and Stanley (Kathy) Moe, of Cumberland, Wis.; and a brother-in-law, Harvey (Karan) Blackstad, of Montevideo, Minn.; and her beloved cat, Tuffy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerome Blackstad; five sisters: Alice, Bernice, Glendetta, Audrey and Shirley; three brothers: Lawrence, Robert and John; and in-laws, Julian and Jeanette Blackstad.

MERVIL NILE LONG


Mervil Nile Long, 92, was born April 5, 1912, in Sprinfield, Ill., a son of John and Frankie Long. He passed away on Sunday (Nov. 7, 2004) at St. Croix Falls, Wis.

He was united in marriage to Lelia McAlister on May 14,1938, in Thompson, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lelia; and son, Marlin Long.

He is survived by his four children: Juanita Long, Robert Long and his wife, Melissa; John Long; and Mark Long and his wife, Rachel; 10 grandchildren: Jason, Melanie, Jennifer, Chris, Dena, Teresa, Shell, Scott, Angela, and DeeAnna; eight great-grandchildren: Erica, Keaton, Thad, Amber, Tony, Autumn, Jeremy, and Hunter.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Plymouth Bible Baptist Church in Plymouth, Iowa, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth immediately following services.

MASON CITY — Irene M. Price, 90, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Ave., died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S. E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Michael J. Podhajsky officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

NASHUA — Sophia F. Pratt, 86, of Nashua, died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 2004) at the New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Nashua with burial in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

WILLIAM ‘BILL’ JAMES TROSPER


ROCK FALLS — William “Bill” James Trosper, 43, rural Rock Falls, died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 2004) as a result of a farming accident.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with pastors Thomas Healey and Doug Domokos officiating. During the service, there will be a time to share memories.

A traditional visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Following the visitation he will be cremated.

Military honors will be held at the Sea Wall by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Memorials may be given to the William James “Bill” Trosper Memorial Fund.

Bill was born Sept. 2, 1961, in Fullerton, Neb., the son of Max O. and Donna (Sargent) Trosper. Bill graduated from Grand Island High School.

He married Dianne Rhinehart and they lived in Ansley, Neb. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1979-1983. While in the service, his son Nathan was born.

After his discharge from the United States Marine Corps, Bill moved to Garner, with a friend from boot camp. Shortly after moving to Garner, Bill met his future wife, Merry.

While “courting” Merry, Bill attended the NIACC automotive program. Then on May 19, 1990, Bill and Merry Boulton were united in marriage in Clear Lake. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Alexander, and Bill worked at a hog confinement and then he worked for Latham Seed Co.

Wanting to live closer to Bill’s family, they moved to Grand Island, Neb., from 1994-1998, where he worked as a warehouse manager for Farmland Industries.

In 1998, Bill transferred to the corporate office in Minneapolis, Minn., and worked as the transportation supervisor.

They moved back to their present address at Rock Falls when Merry’s mom became ill and Bill worked for Quick Supply as a blaster.

Bill had spent the last few years working on the farm where they lived near Rock Falls.

Bill enjoyed family, friends, fishing, dogs and all the rest of his animals.

Bill is survived by his wife, Merry Boulton-Trosper, of Rock Falls; his son, Nathan J. Collister, of Grand Island, Neb.; his mother, Donna Trosper, of Grand Island, Neb.; one brother, Bob Trosper and his wife, Deborah, of Grand Island, Neb.; two sisters: Karen Schrader and her husband, Terry, of Alda, Neb., and Debra Mumm and her husband, David, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; father-in-law, Rancher Sears and his fiancee, Karen Auchampach, of Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, mother-in-law Maxine Sears; and brother- in-law, Mark Boulton.

DOROTHY ANNA GENTZ


NORTHWOOD — Dorothy Anna Gentz, 82, of Northwood, died Thursday (Nov. 11, 2004) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surround-ed by her family.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St. in Northwood, with the Rev. Wayne Hagen, and the Rev. Randall Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

Dorothy Anna Gentz was born on March 11, 1922, in Northwood, the daughter of Fred and Alma (Olson) Schmidt. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Lutheran faith. She attended and received her education in the Northwood school system.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Gentz on March 3, 1940, in the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Northwood by the Rev. Tolo. Raymond preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2003.

Dorothy and Raymond began farming north of Kensett in 1940, and in 1944, they moved east of Northwood where they made their home for 60 years.

In November 2003, she moved to the Maple Court apartments in Northwood.

Dorothy enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy also enjoyed gardening, collecting pigs, cooking, farming and spending time with her family at the annual Labor Day Gentz family camping trip.

Dorothy was a very active member of First Lutheran Church and the Rebecca Circle. She was their treasurer for many years in Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ronald Gentz and his wife, Kathy; Larry Gentz and his wife, Kathy; and David Gentz and his wife, Cheryl, all of Northwood; eight grandchildren: Darrin Gentz and his wife, Tami, of High Point, N.C.; Jessica Roberts; Jared Gentz; Tony Gentz and his wife, Megan; Naomi Olson and her husband, Steven; Jacob Gentz; Hannah Gentz; and Bethany Gentz; seven great-grandchildren: Ryland and Jillian Gentz; Carter and Kaitlyn Roberts; Alexia Gentz; Jace Gentz; and Grace Olson; a brother, Carroll Dean Schmidt of Manly; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Raymond, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents; her sons: Kenneth Allen and Brian Keith; her daughter, Karen Ann; her brothers: Harold, Ralph, Russell, and Roger; and her sisters: Betty Butler, and Ruth Wedgewood.

The family of Dorothy Mae Trainer has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.

Dorothy Mae Trainer was born on July 5, 1914, in Dysart, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Kempf) Bloss. She attended and received her education in the Mitchell County school system.

After completing her schooling she worked at a greenhouse in Osage.

She was united in marriage to Harold Trainer on May 2, 1944, in Albert Lea, Minn. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1979.

Dorothy was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She enjoyed embroidering, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Twins fan, and also enjoyed crossword books, cooking, and playing cards; but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the church circle in Mason City.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Martha Legler and her husband, John, of Mason City; Robert Trainer and his wife, Kathy, of Mason City; and Kathy Christensen and her husband, Carl, of Sullivan, Ill.; nine grandchildren: Laurie Barlow and her husband, John; Amy Legler; AnnMarie Banken; Carrie Allen and her husband, Gary; Jeff Trainer; Craig Barr; Chad Barr and his wife, Kitty; Cory Trainer; and Danielle Christensen; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanne Bloss, of LeRoy, Minn; as well as other relatives and friends.

ESTHER PAULINE BOHNING


BELMOND — Esther Pauline Bohning, 89, of Belmond, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Nov. 10, 2004) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services for Esther P. Bohning will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond with Pastor Melvin Voss officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation for Esther P. Bohning will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane S. in Belmond, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Esther Pauline Bohning was born Jan. 13, 1915, on the Linden Ranch in Cerro Gordo County near Meservey, the daughter of Bene and Emma (Stadtlander) Dorenkamp. She attended Meservey schools.

She was united in marriage to Paul Andrew Bohning on March 16, 1934.

The couple farmed east of Belmond until 1980, when they retired and moved into Belmond.

Esther worked outside the home as a nurse’s aid for the Belmond Community Hospital for 10 years.

She enjoyed playing cribbage, working in her flower garden and baking.

Esther was an active member of the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond.

Esther had resided at the Belmond Health Care Center after a stroke on Dec. 27, 2000.

Those left to cherish the memory of her life include two sons, Wayne Bohning and wife, Van Jean, of Beach Park, Ill., and Royce Bohning and wife, Cherie, of Ames; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Bohning, of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Kristy Bragg, of Gurnee, Ill., Rick Bohning, of Des Plaines, Ill., Michael Madison, of Molalla, Ore., Clayton Bohning, of Bondurant, Sheri Thorson, of Story City, Jason Bohning, Cambridge, and Jeffrey Bohning, of Fort Worth, Texas, stepgrandchildren, Stacy Strovers, of Lamont, Ill., and Marcie Strovers, of Boone; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Alida Dorenkamp and Bernice Bohning, both of Belmond.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul Bohning on Jan. 15, 1985; a daughter, Rhoda Kohler (Madison) on Jan. 21, 2004; a son, Norman Bohning on Feb. 13, 2004; two infant siblings; brother, Emil Dorenkamp; sister, Elma Mennenga; and sister-in-law, Luella Bohning.

She was united in marriage to George H. Price on Sept. 6, 1941, at St. Joseph Church in Mason City.

Irene attended and graduated from St. Joseph High school and Hamilton Business College.

She was employed as a stenographer by People’s Gas and Electric. Later, she worked for Henkel Construction Co., Mason City.

Irene enjoyed doing handwork, knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching.

Irene was very involved at St. Joseph Catholic Church, participating in the St. Francis Circle of Parish Life and was an assistant librarian at St. Joseph Elementary.

She is survived by her three daughters: Sister Joellen PBVM (Georgene), of Sioux City; Charlotte Grelk and her husband, Tom, of Junction City, Kan.; and Roberta (Bobbie) Troutner and her husband, Randy, of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Donald Price and his wife, Barbara, of El Paso, Texas; nine grandchildren: Brian Grelk and his wife, Mary, of Langley Air Force Base, Va.; Lori Grelk, of Junction City, Kan.; David Grelk, of Topeka, Kan.; Kathleen James and her husband, Louis, of Kansas City, Mo.; Scott Johnson and his wife, Michelle, of Kansas City, Mo.; Jeffrey Johnson and his wife, Jennifer, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mandy Troutner, of Kansas City, Mo.; Damon Price, of Lakenheath Air Force Base, England; and Diedre McGallian and her husband, Joseph, of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by one sister, Helen Hardy, of Menomonie, Wis.; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband George; a son, Robert; a great-granddaughter, Emily Grace Grelk; parents, seven brothers; and one sister.

GARNER — Loren E. Abele, 89, of Garner, died Thursday (Nov. 11, 2004) at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

His funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Garner with the Rev. David Wagner officiating. Burial will be at Concord Township Cemetery with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and one hour prior to services at the church.

Loren Edwin Abele, the son of Albert and Esther (Moll) Abele, was born Feb. 13, 1915, on the family farm north of Garner. He attended the rural schools of Garfield Township and graduated from Garner High School in 1933.

He farmed with his father until enlisting in the U.S. Army in September 1942. He served his country during World War II in the Alaskan Command, being stationed at Anchorage, Alaska. Following his honorable discharge in July 1945, he returned home to farm.

On May 28, 1950, he married Beryl Hyler at Ames, Iowa. They farmed and raised their family on the family farm, which was recognized as a Century Farm.

He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and gardening.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner where he served as an usher and belonged to the men’s club.

He was also a member of the Garner American Legion, the Hancock County Farm Bureau, serving on the board of directors for several years, the Hancock County Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the Hancock County Pork Producers serving as secretary.

He is survived by his wife, Beryl, of Garner; three children: Ronald Abele of Garner and special friend, Deb Uhlenhopp; Jean Abele of Des Moines; and Julie Cook and husband, Mark, of Britt; grandchildren: Ronald Abele II and fiancee, Melissa Mayland; Kari Abele; Jamie Cook; Misty Leerar and husband, Andy, and their son, Spencer; and Andrea Cook and special friend, Scott Schlichting; a sister, Iris Abele of Garner; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Osnes and husband, John, of Forest City; a brother-in-law, Calvin Voigt of Forest City; two nephews: Steven Abele and wife, Jan, of Lake Mills; and Brian Abele and wife, Barb, of Leland; a niece, Ann Fischer of Forest City; many cousins; and other relatives.

LA MESA, Calif. — Roger William Gugel, 72, of La Mesa, Calif., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 2004) at Hospice in San Diego, Calif.

Rose was born in Texas on Sept. 28, 1917, the daughter of Felicia (Luna) and Santiago Cuellar.

Before coming to Clear Lake, Rose attended high school in Buffalo Center, Iowa, and moved with her family to work for Sam Kennedy & Sons in 1944. She had been a resident of Clear Lake for 60 years.

Rose was an avid reader, excellent cook, and seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Frances; and a brother, Sam.

MASON CITY — Helen Fitzgerald, 77, of Boone and formerly of Mason City, died Thursday (Nov. 11, 2004) of lung cancer at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, where she had been a resident since February.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone with the Rev. Timothy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.

Helen was born in Mason City on Dec. 7, 1926, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Engels) VanLent. She attended country school near Swaledale.

On April 21, 1956, she married John A. Fitzgerald in Dougherty, Iowa. She and her husband farmed for many years in Boone County before moving to town in 1987.

For several years, she was employed at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone as a certified nurse’s aide, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and the Sacred Heart Funeral Dinner Committee.

She was a volunteer for R.S.V.P.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John in 1995; and an infant sister, Florence.

She is survived by a son, the Rev. Timothy J. Pearl Marie Fritcher Rawn, 88, formerly of Lyle, Minn., died Thursday (Nov. 11, 2004) at Adams Health Care Center.

She was the daughter of Lee and Mami Fritcher, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, born Jan. 17, 1916. Pearl moved to Otranto, Iowa, with her parents in 1916. She lived 21 years at Otranto graduating in 1933 from Otranto Consolidated School.

Pearl was married in April of 1938, to Rufus Rawn of Lyle, Minn., at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed northwest of Lyle for 44 years.

Rufus passed away in September 1982. Pearl stayed on the farm for three years and then moved into Lyle until June 1999, when she went to the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minn.

She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn. A member of Our Saviors WELCA, Mary Circle, the Lyle Senior Citizens, Woodbury Willing Workers and Pythian Sisters of Lyle.

She worked for the neighbors doing housework and at the cafe in Lyle, Minn. After she was married she worked for Burghard Produce, the Gamble Store in Lyle and for seven years in the fall at Hollandale picking potatoes. She worked for Austin Drug for 23 years, retiring in 1979.

She loved to travel, take pictures and spend time with her children and their families.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn., with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Interment will be in the Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle Township.

Rod was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Mason City, the son of Donald and Evangeline (Moon) Wright. Following his graduation from Mason City High School in 1950, he served four years in the Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed in the Mediterranean from 1950-1954.

Upon his return home, he married Phyllis Menke on Oct. 2, 1954, at Central Lutheran Church. Rod retired in 1993 from Heartland Paper Co., where he served as a warehouse manager. He had many friends and was well- liked by all who knew him. He enjoyed working in his garden and watching television.

Rod is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Mason City; a son, Mark and his wife, Jan, of Sioux City; a daughter, Diane Murphy and her husband, Jim, of Mason City; a son, Jay and his wife, Renee, of Downers Grove, Ill.; grandchildren, Kyle Wright and his wife Margaret, and Megan Murphy and Michael Wright.

FERTILE — Silence L. Johnson, age 82, of Fertile, died Friday (Nov. 12, 2004) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Fertile with the Rev. Curt Gallmeyer officiating. Burial will be at Grant Center Cemetery in rural Clear Lake.

Silence LeWanna Johnson was born on a farm near Fertile on March 18, 1922, the daughter of Leo and Hazel (Haugen) Stokke. She received her education in rural schools and graduated from Fertile High School. On April 6, 1940, she married Adolph Johnson at the Church of Christ parsonage in Fertile. Silence made her home in Fertile her whole life.

She worked for a brief time at Nyes Grocery in Fertile, at EF Johnson in Clear Lake and DeLuxe Filter in Lake Mills. She was a long-time member of the Church of Christ in Fertile and active in the Christian Workers.

She liked to do cross-stitch, embroidery and knitting. Music was important to her and she treasured time spent with her family. In years past, Silence raised a large garden and enjoyed canning the produce. She loved to be outside, feeding the birds and caring for her flowers.

She died at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, Iowa, on Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the age of 82 years.

Silence is survived by her children, Gwendolyn Scott of Mason City, Jerry Johnson and special friend, Jana, of Floyd, and Joel Johnson and wife, Jane, of Fertile; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Harriet Winden and husband, Richard, of Hanlontown; brother-in-law, Raymond McArthur of Pierre, S.D.; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Johnson of Mason City and Elvera Olson and husband, Russell, of Fairfax, Iowa.

Mr. Attleson, 80, of Rochester, a retired assistant vice president of First Security Bank and Trust Company of Charles City, Iowa, died Saturday, (Nov. 13, 2004) at St. Mary’s Hospital of complications from multiple myeloma cancer.

He was born October 15, 1924, in Mt. Sterling, Wis,. to Attley and Millie (Eiberg) Attleson. Mr. Attleson graduated from high school in New Hampton, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as yeoman second class. Following military service, he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

He began his banking career in Ionia, Iowa, and later moved to Charles City, where he was employed at First Security Bank.

He married Irene (Boomgarden) Attleson at Forest City, on Jan. 5, 1958. The couple made their home in Charles City, moving to Rochester upon retirement.

Mr. Attleson was active in church choir, deacons and Bible study in communities he lived in. He enjoyed biking, hiking, swimming and camping with his family. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 17 years in Rochester and gave more than five gallons of blood to the Red Cross. He also served faithfully in several offices of The Gideons International for more than 25 years.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Tami (Dave) Thompson of Edina, Minn., a son, Peter (Jill) Attleson of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mavis (Fritz) Lang of New Hampton, Hazel (Don) Hereid of New Hampton, and Thelma (Roger) Johnson also of New Hampton.

Henry Edward Trager, the son of Duane and Theresa (Quigley) Trager, was born April 20, 1966, in Belmond. He grew up and attended school in Belmond, graduating from Belmond High School in 1985. Following graduation from high school, Ed attended Iowa Lakes Community College and received a degree in auto body in 1986.

At age 13, Ed went to work at McLaughlin Brothers and continued to work there until October of 1997. In November of 1997, he began working for Eaton Corporation in Belmond and was employed there at the time of his death. Ed helped Perry and Donna Brown do landscaping.

Ed was very family oriented. He was a good friend and was always there to help out in any way he could. He enjoyed children, especially spending time with his nieces, Josephine and Alexandra, and his friends’ children, Kevin and Jesse Brown. Ed was extremely proud of his brothers’ service in the United States Army.

Ed enjoyed weight lifting, biking and all types of cars. He was a Nebraska Cornhusker fan and had a large collection of Elvis Presley music and memorabilia.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Belmond Jaycees.

Ed is survived by his mother, Theresa of Belmond; one sister, Charlotte Trager of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Raymond Trager and his wife, Sonya, of Belmond and Andy Trager of Wichita, Kan.; two nieces, Josephine and Alexandra Trager of Belmond; paternal aunts and uncles, Dennis Trager and his wife, Cici, and Larry Braga and his wife, Kathy; maternal aunts and uncles, Nancy Beenken, Pat Quigley and his wife, Mikey, Stephen Quigley and his wife, Anne, Eugene Quigley and his wife, Dianne, Thomas Quigley and his wife, Rosalie, Rose McGrann and her husband, John, Frank Quigley and his wife, Vicki, Susan Followwill and Charlie and Carol Fletcher and her husband, Brad; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Duane in 1993, grandparents, Tom and Josephine Quigley and Henry Edward and Grace Trager, and aunt, Darlene Braga.

LIME SPRINGS — Evelyn Nelson, 83, formerly of Lime Springs, died Saturday (Nov. 13, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.

MARSHALLTOWN —Glenn W. Johnson, 90, of Marshalltown, formerly of Northwood, died Friday (November 12, 2004) at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.

His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Wendi Gillan officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Avenue South, Northwood, and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Glenn was born June 11, 1914, in Gordonsville, Minn., a son of Walter and Myrtle (Bighley) Johnson. He attended school in Northwood before going to work at a CCC camp in Arkansas in 1934. Glenn entered the United States Army in 1942 at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He toured France and Germany with the European Theater for one year during World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1945 at Camp Shelby, Miss., he returned to North Iowa. Glenn worked as a projectionist at theaters in Northwood and Albert Lea, Minn., for 25 years. He later became a mail carrier in Northwood for 20 years, retiring in 1979.

Glenn was united in marriage to Jeannette Perzynski Wall on June 30, 1960, at the First United Methodist Church in Northwood. They lived in Northwood until moving together to the Iowa Veterans Home in December 1993.

Glenn loved old movies that he remembered showing at the theaters. He could tell everyone who played all the roles. He enjoyed playing the harmonica until he got dentures. Glenn had a strong sense of family and a strong work ethic. He took every job he had very seriously. Glenn never knew a stranger because he could find something to talk about with everyone he ever met.

Glenn is survived by his daughters, Carol Hughes of Oak Forest, Ill., Linda and Larry Limesand of Lake Mills, Fran Wall of Tama, Pam Johnson of Des Moines, and Cheri and Dr. David Flagel of Chillicothe, Ohio; one son, Mike Wall of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Dorothy Gettman of Wildwood, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and nephews. He was also a grandpa to several dogs, birds and a cat, taking great interest in these animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeannette Johnson, in July 1995; and two brothers, Robert and Virgil Johnson.

EMMONS, Minn. — Lyle Alan Anderson, 59, of Emmons, Minn., died Saturday (Nov. 13, 2004) at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea, Minn.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minn. with the Rev. Julie Fiske officiating.

CLARION — Rosemarie Harmon, 66, of Clarion, died Friday (Nov. 12, 2004) at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services for Rosemarie Harmon will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, 420 First St., N.W. in Clarion with the Rev. Gary Boen officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.
