Health Care Center.

CHARLES CITY — Victor Holm, 84,
of 303 Ninth Ave., died
Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2003) at
the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services for Victor Holm

at Saint John Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Charles City,
with the Revs. Dennis Niezwaag
and David Werges officiating.

Victor Max Adolf Holm was born
Oct. 26, 1918, at Las Vegas,
N.M., the son of Otto and Ida (Lesche)
Holm. He graduated from St.
Ansgar High School.
On Dec. 7, 1939, he was united
in marriage to Lorraine
Zimmerman at St. Ansgar.
The importance of agriculture
and specifically farming was
seen in Victor’s occupation. He
farmed near St. Ansgar and later
moved to the Charles City area
where he farmed with Julius
Huxsol for many years.
Victor then worked as a
custodian at Saint John
Evangelical Lutheran Church for
six years. He was a member of
Saint John Evangelical Lutheran
Church, the American Bowling
Association, and enjoyed working
with the Foster Grandparent
Program, and Kid’s Castle.
Victor’s other interests
included bowling, playing cards
and pool, and watching sports
especially the Vikings.
His family was very important to
him and the time spent with them
was always very special.
Living family members include
five sons, Dale (Vickie) Holm of
Osage, Allen (Karen) Holm of
Swaledale, Richard Holm of
Charles City, Robert (Barbara)
Holm of Orchard, and Donald
(Shirley) Holm of Charles City;
four daughters, Gloria Crumpton
of Manchester, Judy (Roger)
Grimm of Elma, El Louise
“Jackie” (Al) Jacobs of
Ellendale, Minn., and Dianna
(Tim) Francis of Mason City; 23
grandchildren; and 23
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; wife, Lorraine, on May
23, 1995; a grandson, Brian
Crumpton; a great-grandson,
Alexander Branstad; a
son-in-law, Jim Crumpton; three
sisters, and two brothers.

He married Miriam Gomez on April
11, 1970. She died on May 11,
1997.
He had worked as an iron worker
for the Local Union 111.
He loved to cook, trying all
kinds of dishes that he would
see on T.V.
He liked to play and watch
sports. He would go fishing
every chance he got. He rode his
bike everywhere. He always had a
garden.

daughter-in-law, Bryan and Laura
Martel, of Moline, Ill.; mother,
Lupe Martel, of Mason City;
grandmother, Felicitas Martel,
of East Moline, Ill.; sister and

OSAGE — Eno J. Onken, 73, of
Topock, Ariz., and formerly of
Osage passed away Wednesday
(Sept. 24,2003) at University
Medical Center in Las Vegas,
Nev.
Eno was born on June 7, 1930, in
Osage, the son of Enno and
Jennie (Rodemaker) Onken. He was
a retired maintenance mechanic
from Libby Glass.

OSAGE - Benna Spencer,
80, of Osage died Friday
(Sept. 26, 2003) at St.
Mary's Hospital in
Rochester, Minn., of a
sudden illness.
She was born April 10,
1923, in Sacramento,
Calif., the daughter of
Henry Harrison and Grace
(Graham) Bartells. Benna
was raised in Streator,
Ill.
She graduated with a
B.S. degree in nursing
from the University of
Iowa where she met her
husband, William A.
Spencer. They were
married June 15, 1946 in
Streator, Ill.
They moved to
Washington, D.C., where
Dr. Spencer completed
two residencies in
surgery and general
anesthesia, and where
Benna worked as an RN in
an OB/GYN clinic.
They moved to Osage in
1957. While raising her
family, she also found
time to be involved in
the American Red Cross
Blood Bank, the American
Red Cross, and Girl
Scouts.
They wintered in Naples,
Fla., and spent summers
in Iowa City.
Benna loved family and
friends and always had a
witty comment to
welcome, comfort or
entertain.
Funeral services will be
private.

1916, on the family farm
south of Osage, the
daughter of Alfred Henry

Lesch. She graduated
from Osage High School
in 1934. She was also a
graduate of the
University of Northern
Iowa.
She taught for 10 years
in rural Mitchell County
schools, and in the
Waterloo public schools
for 32 years, from which
she retired.
She married Johnson
Feldpouch on Jan. 5,
1945, in Cedar Falls. He
died in 1979.
She was a member of Our
Savior's Lutheran Church
and of the Martha
Circle.
She was also a member of
numerous gem and mineral
clubs and the Audubon
Society.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m.

was born Jan.
16, 1914, near
Belmond, Iowa.
He was baptized
on April 8,
1914, and
confirmed on
July 13, 1930,
both at St. Olaf
Lutheran Church
in rural
Belmond.
Herb farmed his
family's farm
west of Belmond.
He was united in
marriage to
Esther May
Steenblock on
March 1, 1942,
by the Rev. O.M.
Severseike, then
pastor of the
St. Olaf-Trinity
Parish. In 1950,
they moved to a
farm one mile
west of Belmond,
where they
continued
farming together
until 1978, at
which time they
retired and
moved into town.
They were
members of
Trinity Lutheran
Church, where
Herbert was an
active member,
serving as
deacon for a
number of years,
did ushering and
was helpful in
other ways.
Herb was always
there for his
family and
friends. He was
known as the
"fix it" guy by
his family and
other relatives.
He enjoyed
woodworking,
such as toys for
children, one of
which was a
rocking horse
for their
daughter. It is
still in use by
the
great-grand-children.
He also made
wooden clocks
and such for
family members
and friends.
Those left to
cherish his
memory are his
loving wife,

husband, Susan

died. He built

was a lumber
yard owner in
Missouri for
several years.
Lowell was a
member of Wesley
United Methodist
Church, Mason
City, VFW,
Scottish Rite,
York Rite,
Benevolence
Lodge and Abou
Ben Adhem
Shrine.
He was proud to
be a Shriner and
was active in
the local club
as well as his
original order.
He loved to play
cribbage, go to
morning coffee
at Shill's with
the guys and
Burke's on
Mondays.
He will be sadly
missed by his
wife and best
friend, Jean
Payne of Mason
City. They
graduated
together from
Mason City High
School and were
reunited at
their 30th class
reunion. They
were married on
May 9, 1987, in
Mason City. They
shared their
lives for
sixteen years
and enjoyed
traveling and
spending time
with their

friends.

RUA LUCINDA DOEBEL
MANLY — Rua Lucinda Doebel, Manly, formerly of Hanlontown, 104 years old, after living in three centuries, passed away Sept. 29, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
She had been a homemaker, enjoyed cooking, gardening, music and visiting with friends. Her home was often almost a community center for the town, as she had many friends.
Rua grew up on a farm near Fertile, where she drove a horse and buggy to school. Then shortly thereafter settled in Hanlontown, where she became, in time, its oldest resident.
She was born the same year the town was founded and lived through all the town’s transitions.
Rua was featured on NBC’s ‘‘Today’’ show by Willard Scott and also as part of a ‘‘CBS Sunday Morning’’ presentation by Bill Geist covering Hanlontown’s Sundowner Day.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Henry Doebel, former mayor and businessman of Hanlontown, and her parents, Lucy and Haven Goodell, and a brother, George.
Rua has a son David and his wife Shirley who live in Spring Lake, Mich., plus two grandchildren, John Doebel and his wife, Julia, who reside in East Jordan Mich., and Lucinda Woudenberg and her husband, Phil, who live in Scottsdale, Ariz., plus six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln Township Cemetery, on Wheelerwood Drive., rural Hanlontown.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St. in Manly.

MASON CITY — Roger L. Klemas, 72, of Mason City died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services for Roger will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Ken Hatland officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites at the graveside will be conducted by the Mason City Veteran’s Memorial Association.
Memorials may be directed towards the Roger L. Klemas Memorial Fund.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to the time of service on Wednesday at the church.
Roger L. Klemas was born May 26, 1931, at Story Hospital in Mason City, the son of Harley John and Cora Mildred (Conklin) Klemas.
He attended the Mason City School System and graduated in 1949 and went on to receive his associate of arts degree from Mason City Junior College in 1951.
Roger continued his education and received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1953.
He then served his country from 1953-1955 in the Korean Conflict achieving the rank of corporal in the United States Army.
Roger L. Klemas was united in marriage to June M. Olson on March 30, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.
As a boy, Roger delivered newspapers for the Des Moines Register at the age of 10 and for the Globe Gazette at the age of 12. Roger was a mailroom employee at the Globe Gazette in 1943.
He then worked for the Globe Gazette advertising department from 1953-1968 and then Mohawk Advertising from 1968-1971 when he retired.
Roger was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he helped with ushering and preparing the Sunday bulletins.
He also was a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Health Center visiting the residents for more than 13 years.
Roger had a deep appreciation and love for nature and the outdoors, he was an avid stamp collector and reader.
Roger always enjoyed the Wednesday morning breakfast club with the guys.
He also always loved to spend time with his family and friends and dearly cared for his or his family’s pets.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, June Marie (Olson) Klemas; sons, John Lee Klemas of Mason City, Michael Allen Klemas and wife Diane (Hemann) of Mason City, and Dennis Mark Klemas of Mason City; brother, Ted Klemas and wife, Patricia, of Mason City; several brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; four aunts; and one uncle (some in Canada); and lifetime friend, Robert Bales of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Clayton; two uncles and three aunts and his grandparents.

MAURICE FLINT MULLER
OSAGE — Maurice Flint Muller, 86, of Osage, died Sunday (Sept. 28, 2003) at his home.
Maurice was born June 4, 1917, in Cedar Township near Osage. He was the second son of Albert Herman and Mable (Flint) Muller. He attended rural school and Osage High School.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church and was later confirmed and baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage.
Maurice farmed with his father until his marriage to Adelaide Lindley in 1939 at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
They farmed in the early years of their marriage. He then worked as an implement salesman for Ben Chatman and Wright John Deere for 10 years.
He then returned to farming in 1953 on the home farm west of Osage.
They moved to the St. Ansgar area in 1965 after a tornado took their farm outside of Osage. They lived south of Toeterville until their retirement.
In 1988, they moved to their present home in Osage.
Maurice was a charter member and officer of the 4-H Foundation and was a 4-H leader. He was active in Farm Bureau, served in several offices in the church council and building committees.
He was also on the Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative Board of Directors for 19 years and was a director of Dairyland Power of LaCrosse for 10 years.
During Maurice’s retirement he enjoyed woodworking, working in his vegetable garden, playing pool with several friends, and visiting with friends and family.
Family members and friends have many beautiful wood pieces of his making.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends as he was always there for them, to listen to, to comfort, to love.
Funeral services will be held at p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, and will continue one hour before services at the church.
He is survived by his wife,

NORA SPRINGS — Phyllis Ann Weitze, 58, formerly of Nora Springs, died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at Mercy Capitol Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, with Pastor Jim Turner officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs.Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.
Following the services her body will be cremated with graveside inurnment services at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.
Phyllis Ann Weitze was born on April 1, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Roger and Helen (Gerdes) Weitze. She attended and received her education in the Nora Springs– Rock Falls school system, graduating in 1963.
Phyllis also attended and graduated from Bethany Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kan., in 1967.
Phyllis received her cardiovascular training at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
After completing her nursing school, she continued at Bethany Hospital in the medical surgery unit, and also worked in the intensive care unit and psychiatric unit until 1992.
She also graduated from Ottawa University in Kansas City with a B.S. degree in psychology.
In 1992, she moved to Atlantic, Iowa and worked at the Cass County Memorial Hospital until Jan. 3, 1994, and retired due to health reasons.
She enjoyed playing the organ, making quilts, traveling, doing latch work, and also loved and enjoyed her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, and later through her adult life was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan., and later attended the Evangelical Free Church in Atlantic, and was a member of the Christian Women’s Club.
Left to cherish her memory is her father, Roger Weitze of Nora Springs; a brother, Ronald Weitze and his wife, Jane, of Fort Thomas, Ky.; a sister, Marlene Albertson and her husband, Harold, of Urbandale; five nieces and nephews, Sarah Weitze and her fiancé, Travis Holman, of Danville, Ky., Andrew Weitze of Fort Thomas, Ky., Tracy Hughes and her husband, Tony, of Waukee, Brad Albertson and his wife, Melissa, of Altoona, and Troy Albertson and his wife, Alicia, of Pleasant Hill; seven great-nieces and nephews; two aunts, Florence Gratias of Nora Springs, and Elsie Gerdes of Sheffield; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

CLEAR LAKE — Wayne Wilcox, 89, 608 N. Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Monday (Sept. 29, 2003) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

PARK RAPIDS, Minn. — Clinton Roger Wogstad, 59, of Park Rapids, Minn. died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2003) at his home.
He was born April 18, 1944, to Clayton and Ardis (Olson) Wogstad in Mason City. He grew up in Deer Creek and London, Minn. He graduated from Lyle High School in 1963.
He completed a two-year accounting program from Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
He drove semi-truck for most of his career. He lived in Park Rapids for 25 years.
He is survived by his mother, Ardis Olson, of Park Rapids, Minn.; three children, Teresa (John) Gaffney and Lynda Wogstad, both of Stacyville, and Kenneth (Sara) Wogstad, of Mason City; seven grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Sept. 19, at his home.
