CAMILLUS I. BAKER

MASON CITY— Camillus I. Baker, 88, of Mason City, died Friday (August 29, 2003) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St., N.E., Mason City with Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the chapel.

The family of Camillus I. Baker has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City in her memory.

Camillus I. Baker was born in Kensett, on March 5, 1915, to Phillip and Mary (Lynch) Heidenreich. She was the youngest of ten children who grew up on the family farm. Camillus graduated from Plymouth High school in 1933 as class Valedictorian. She eventually settled in Mason City and attended Hamilton Business College.

She was united in marriage in 1937, and was blessed with a daughter, born July 3, 1938.

Camillus enjoyed a 30-year career as a bookkeeper for Jacob E. Decker and Sons in Mason City, retiring in 1975. Her hobbies included bowling, playing cards, and maintaining her beautiful gardens. She also had a love for travel, and especially enjoyed trips to Texas and winters in Arizona.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and after retirement, was an active community volunteer. Camillus was especially fond of her involvement with the RSVP program, receiving the Shining Star Award for 20 years of dedicated service to the Mason City Police Department. Camillus was also a member of St. Veronica’s Circle and the Catholic Daughters of America .

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janice Orpen, of Mason City; two grandchildren, Dennis Orpen and his wife Debra, of Chandler, Ariz., and Lori Orpen of Mason City; two great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Orpen) Lighthall and her husband, Noah, of Mesa, Ariz, and Stephanie Orpen of Chandler, Ariz; and several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and nine brothers and sisters, Loretta, Ione, Monie, Irene, Helen, Leo, Malcolm, Clete, and Clarence.

DORA AUGUSTA BENTZIN


MANLY— Dora Augusta (Wahl) Bentzin, 97, formerly of Manly, died Saturday afternoon at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly, with the Reverend Steven Waughtal, chaplin at the Good Shepherd Care Center officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the chapel.

Dora Augusta (Wahl) Bentzin was born on December 21, 1905, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Gottschalk) Wahl in Grafton. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. She attended and received her education in the Grafton School system.

She was united in marriage to Gerhold C. Bentzin in September 1925, in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, and to this union was born a son, Arran.

Dora enjoyed fishing, going up north, and gardening, but her great love and enjoyment was spending time with family.

Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Gary Bentzin and his wife, Annette, of Saline, Mich., Bruce Bentzin and his wife, Jamia, of Campbell, Minn., and Carla Bentzin of Fergus Falls, Minn., special granddaughter-in-law, Jane Johannes of Mason City; six great-grandchildren, Jody Schulz, Chris Bentzin, Jeremy Bentzin, Laura Sellar, James Bentzin, and Caitlin Bentzin; five great-great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerhold Bentzin in 1980, son and daughter-in-law, Arran and Viola (Schmidt) Bentzin, grandchildren, Michael Bentzin and Cynthia Bentzin; sister Laura Johnson; brother, Walter Wahl; and many nieces and nephews.

VIVIAN G. BROADWELL


CLINTON — Vivian G. Broadwell, 96, of 600 14th Ave, Clinton, died Saturday (August 30, 2003) at Wyndcrest Care Facility, Clinton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Bill Poland of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, (641) 423-2372.

JOSEPH ‘JOE’ DIVIS


ALGONA— Joseph “Joe” Divis, 77, of Algona died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003) at Kossuth Regional Hospital in Algona.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona with the Rev. Steve Turner officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery, Algona. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and V.F.W. posts.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Algona.

HARRY B. MEYER


MASON CITY—Harry B. Meyer, 85, of Mason City, died Friday (August 29, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial Services for Harry will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. John “Jack” Gannett and the Rev. Warren Frelund officiating.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mr. Meyer’s name.

Harry B. Meyer was born June 21, 1918, the son of William and Anna (Plantenburg) Meyer in rural Hitterdal, Minn. He graduated from Hitterdal High School and continued his education at Concordia College in Moorehead, Minn., the University of Nebraska and the University of Minnesota. Harry taught in Brainerd and Starbuck, Minn. before coming to Mason City.

He was united in marriage to Martha C. Westerberg on May 29, 1941, in Alexandria, Minn. On May 30, 1942, Harry was called to serve his country in the Army during World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant. Upon his discharge from the Army, Harry and Martha moved to Mason City where Harry began a 37-year teaching career with the Mason City School District at Roosevelt Junior High, retiring in 1982. He was an active and long-time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Harry also spent much of his time as a member of many local and national organizations. He served as a former member of the Lion’s Club, I.S.E.A., N.E.A. and Retired School Personnel.

Harry enjoyed traveling, not only around the United States but to Africa and China as well. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Anne M. Sinner and husband, Stephen, of Bettendorf; his son, Robert Meyer and wife, Sharon, of Mason City, his son, Weston Meyer and wife, Nancy, of Denver, Colo; grandchild, Janet Cole and husband, Michael, of Pleasant Valley, Iowa; step-grandson, Brian Anderson and wife, Liz, of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Tony Cole of Pleasant Valley; step-great-granddaughter, Eleanor Anderson of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Fred Meyer of Hawley, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Martha C. Meyer; four brothers, John, Hank, Bill and Weston and one sister, Marie Goshorn.

HAMPTON — Dorothy R. Nolte, 86, of Hampton died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003) at the Franklin General Nursing Facility, Hampton.

GARNER — Marguerite M. Upmeyer, 78, of Garner died Sunday (August 31, 2003) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Her funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

FLOYD— Nettie Marie Wall, 88, of Floyd, died Saturday (August 30, 2003) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, and one hour prior to services at the church.

A memorial has been established in Nettie’s name.
