HELEN J. GUINGRICH

VENTURA - Helen J. Guingrich, 99, of 7 Marflow St., Ventura and formerly of Dallas, Wis., died Thursday (Nov. 13, 2003) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ventura United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Audrey Young. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the New Hope-Pine Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ridgeland, Wis.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Helen Josephine "Johnson" Guingrich was born the eldest of five children to John and Hilda "Lee" Johnson on May 23, 1904, in Ridgeland, Wis. She attended a country school in the Ridgeland area and then moved to Detroit.

There she met her future husband, Chester R. Guingrich, and they were wed on May 14, 1927, in Detroit. To this union was born one child, Gloria.

When the Depression hit, they moved to Milwaukee where Chester could find work, and she found employment at Sears and Roebuck. She worked as a school cook for the Underwood School in Wauwatosa, Wis. In 1952, they moved to a family farm near Dallas, Wis., and she continued as a cook for the Dallas School.

Her greatest love and enjoyment was being with family and friends. Dancing with Chester was something she enjoyed.

An active gardener and avid berry picker, she always had a sense of where there were berries to be picked for her jams and jellies that she shared with her grandchildren. Lefse, bread and doughnuts were her particular specialties in the kitchen.

Her daily dinners with the Ventura Senior Citizens were a regular source of enjoyment. There was nothing better than having coffee and a plate of fresh cookies with her family and friends.

Her church membership remained in the Ridgeland Methodist Church in Wisconsin, but she thoroughly en-joyed the fellowship at the Ventura United Methodist Church.

Those thankful for sharing Helen's life include her only daughter, Gloria, and her husband, Ivan Taylor, of Ventura; her six grandchildren, Pam Schmidt and her husband, Gary, of Tucson, Ariz., Tom Taylor and his wife Else, of Ventura, Peggy Baldwin and her husband, Mark, of Cedar Falls, Patty Keller and her husband, Brett, of Vista, Calif., Penny Sturges and her husband, Doug, of Rockwell, and Tim Taylor and his wife, Denise, of Dallas, Texas; 20 great-grandchildren; many brothers- and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Chester, in 1990; three sisters, Isabelle Moen, Alice Beiswanger and Nellie O'Flannagan, and one brother, Arnold Johnson.

IZETTA CRAIG


HANLONTOWN - Izetta Craig, 88, of Hanlontown, passed away Thursday (Nov. 13, 2003) at the Muse-Norris Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brush Point Cemetery in Hanlontown with the Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Lunch will be served following the service at the Hanlontown Community Center.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of Northwood is in charge of the arrangements.

Izetta, the daughter of Riley and Nora (Ragen) Paxton, was born on Dec. 9, 1914, in Holt County, Neb. She was a 1933 graduate of Stuart High School in Stuart, Neb.

She taught in rural schools in the Stuart area.

She married Chester C. Craig on Feb. 28, 1932. Two children were blessed to this union, Billie Joan and Sharon Kay. They moved to Hanlontown in 1943, where she lived until her death.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown.

Izetta was employed at Jenning's Cafe, Kelly Brattrud Appliance and Ralph Jenning's Produce. She was also employed at Winnebago Industries for 17 years in Stitchcraft, where she retired at 70 years of age.

Her greatest joys were her daughters and sons-in-law, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

She loved tending to her flowers, sewing costumes for grandchildren and crocheting. She was always ready with a helping hand, a lap for cuddling, and lots of hugs and kisses. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Billie Joan (Harold) Naugle, of Armstrong, Mo., and Sharon Kay (Duane) Holstad, of Kensett; six grandchildren: Harold (Vanessa) Naugle, of Princetown, Mo., Craig Naugle (and his fiance, Lisa), of Lynchburg, Mo., Sharraine Meister (and special friend, Dave), of Jefferson City, Mo., Pam (Pete) Linen, of Harlan, Mark (Mary) Holstad, of Kensett and Carol (Joey) Wetter, of Rock Falls; 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Orville (Carmen) Paxton; one sister, Ruby Mat-ousek, and special friends, Dick and Jean Brattrud, Diane and Ted Reisdoefer, Barb Abrams and Lavone Reeder.

Izetta was proceeded in death by her parents; a sister at a young age, and her husband, Chester C., on March 14, 1967.

FREDERICK JAMES 'FRED' WILMARTH JR.


MASON CITY - Frederick James "Fred" Wilmarth Jr., 70, of 309 E. State St., Apartment 1, Mason City, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Military honors will be at the funeral home on Tuesday by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the chapel. Following the services on Tuesday, his body will be cremated.

Frederick "Fred" James Wilmarth Jr. was born on May 24, 1933, in Pilotgrove, Mo., the son of Frederick James Wilmarth Jr. and Lula Margaret (Bahm) Wilmarth. He attended and received his education from the Mason City School system, graduating from Mason City High School.

After completing his schooling, he was inducted into the U.S. Air Force in Mason City on 25 March, 1953, and was stationed at the Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany until his honorable discharge on 24 March, 1957, as Airman first class at the Dow Air Force Base in Maine.

After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he came back to Mason City and was united in marriage to Sandra Albaugh at the First Congregational Church in Mason City in 1958.

After their marriage, Fred worked as a chemist for Le-high Cement Co. in Mason City for more than 20 years. He also worked for Iowa Mold & Tool Co. in Garner and for Alexander Manufacturing in Mason City until his retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and dancing.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Lunker Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Mason City.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Tim Wilmarth, of Mason City, William (Melaine) Wilmarth, of Mason City, Julie (Randy) Pritchard, of Maxwell, Jon (Jennifer) Wilmarth, of Mason City, Scott (Julie) Wilmarth, of Mason City, and Susan (Edward) Ferree, of Chicago; 16 grandchildren: Amy, Chris and Joshua Wilmarth, Bridget Wilmarth, Danielle, Nicole, Brynne, and Maggie Pritchard, Lindsey, Nicholas, Patrick, Cassondra, and Savannah Wilmarth, and Hannah, Olivia and Edwin Ferree, as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

JOHN GORDON CORDES


TITONKA - John Gordon Cordes, 85, passed away Thursday (Nov. 13, 2003) at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Ramsey Reformed Church in rural Titonka with the Rev. Dennis Redeker officiating. Burial will be in the Ramsey Reformed Cemetery, rural Titonka.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka.

John Gordon Cordes was born May 15, 1918, in rural Lakota, the son of John and Reka (Janssen) Cordes. He attended local country schools and was a confirmed member of Ramsey Reformed Church, where he served as deacon, elder and Sunday School superintendent.

On June 24, 1940, John married Marie Louise Anderson of Lakota at the Ramsey Reformed Church. They farm-ed for more than 40 years, including farms at Lone Rock, Ledyard, Titonka and Lakota. They enjoyed farming the land together, while raising dairy cattle, purebred Durocs and other livestock.

John also served on various community and agriculture-related boards.

In 1981, John and Marie retired from farming and built a retirement home in Titonka. During their retirement, they enjoyed fishing, gardening, visiting family and friends, and listening to music, especially Band Wagon.

John went to be with the Lord on Nov. 13, 2003, at the age of 85.

He is survived by his three children and their families: John A. and Sharon Cordes, of Greenfield, Mo., Juanita and Velere Stromer, of Klemme, and Wayne Cordes, of Titonka; six grandchildren, Andrea Stromer, Jackie Stromer McGrail, Vallie Stromer Martin, Jonathan Cordes, Ryan Montgomery and Rhonda Juehring, and eight great-grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers and sisters: Margreta Smidt, of Belmond, Ralph and Gladys Cordes, of Pekin, Ill., Albert Cordes, of Forest City, Eunice Cordes, of Hampton, and Bill and Shirley Karels, of Burt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie; brother, Ken, and a sister, Rose.

SHEFFIELD - William J. "Bill" Mehlberg, 77, of Wasco, Calif., and formerly of Shef-field, died Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2003) at his home.

STACYVILLE - Debora Kay Abbas, 48, of Stacyville, formerly of Kanawha, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Rockledge, Fla.

Eileene Muller was born March 27, 1914, in rural Rudd, the daughter of Hazael and Chloe (Nelson) Ethington.

During her school years, she played field hockey and was known to be very athletic. Eileene graduated from Rudd High School.

Eileene furthered her education in Minnesota, attending and graduating from the Minneapolis School of Art. She painted, drew and created her works of art with many mediums. Eileene had the privilege to create as an artist for Walt Disney in the mid 1930s. She painted the background forest scenery in Disney’s first animated feature film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Eileene was invited back to participate on another project the following year, however she declined because she had begun dating her future husband.

On October 6, 1940, Eileene was united in marriage to Alton “Scoop” Muller at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Osage. Eileene and “Scoop” enjoyed traveling and especially treasured a trip together to the Far West states, such as Washington and Oregon.

They were also avid fans of the Charles City softball and baseball teams and took great pride in their large vegetable and flower gardens.

Some of Eileene’s other favorite interests and activities included collecting dolls and household antiques, and cheering for the Twins, Cubs, Bulls and Hawkeyes.

Her children fondly remember the many decorated wedding cakes Eileene created for her family and friends. Steve and Shelley assisted their mom by offering their hands and laps for holding the cakes in the car while transporting them to their final destination.

Vacations, picnics, cooking large family meals and entertaining guests were special enjoyments in Eileene’s life.

Eileene was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, the St. John’s Women’s Church Circle and a charter member of the Charles City Art Association.

Eileene will be remembered as being a feisty woman, strong-willed and having a wonderful sense of humor. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her two children, Shelley Muller, of Charles City and Steven Muller and his wife, Linda, of Stoughton, Wis.; her grandson, James Muller and his wife, Emily, of Madison, Wis.; and their son, Eileene’s great-grandson, Jameson Muller; a sister, Roberta Norby and her husband, Harold, of Nora Springs; and a brother, Eldon Ethington, of Charles City.

Preceding Eileene in death are her husband, Alton “Scoop” Muller in November of 1966; her parents; one sister, Shirley Page; and one brother, Gayle Ethington.

STACYVILLE — Debora Kay Abbas, 48, of Stacyville, formerly of Kanawha, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Rockledge, Fla.

Debora, the daughter of Leo and Faye Corlew Abbas, was born Aug. 28, 1955, in Belmond. She grew up in the Kanawha area, and attended and graduated from Kanawha High School.

Following graduation from high school, Debora attended Sioux Empire College in Hawarden. She worked in Hawarden for a time, and later moved to Stacyville where she currently resided.

Debora was employed by Connie’s Express of Seattle, Wash., as a long distance truck driver along with her fiancé, Lyle Nicol.

Debora is survived by her fiancé, Lyle Nicol, of Stacyville; two children: Chad and Christina; mother, Faye Abbas of Kanawha; sisters and brother: Pamela Miller and her husband, LeRoy, of Mason City, Lory Shippy and her husband, Larry, of Clear Lake, and Wayne and his wife, Laura, of Kanawha; niece, Kayla and nephew, Rodney.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo; and son Ben.

MASON CITY — Carl F. Brust, 85, of Mason City, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating.

Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Interment will be in the West View Cemetery in LaPorte City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and for an hour prior to service time at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Carl F. Brust Memorial Fund.

Carl was born Dec. 10, 1917, in LaPorte City, Iowa the son of Charles A. and Floy (Bailey) Brust.

He graduated from LaPorte City High School and attended the Coyne Electrical School, Chicago, and Diesel School at the University of Illinois.

Carl was married to Loretta R. Klinger on June 2, 1940, in Waterloo. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. They moved to Mason City in 1952.

He worked for Zach Brothers Electric for 22 years and was self employed in the C & L Electric in Garner for eight years retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City, Senior Men’s Chamber of Commerce, Senior Citizens, American Legion and a former member of the Rod & Gun Club.

Survived by his wife of 63 years, Loretta R. Brust, of Mason City; son, James A. Brust and wife, Susan, of Marion, granddaughters, Lindsay Brust, of New York City, N,Y., Emily J. Brust, of Iowa City; sisters, Naomi Wright and husband, Donald, of Highland, Calif., and Velda J. Brust, of Corvallis, Ore.; brother, Richard D. Brust and wife, Margaret, of Monmouth, Ore.; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded by his parents, child in infancy, a grandchild in infancy, one brother and one sister.

CY KOPECKY


GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Cy Kopecky, World War II hero, recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and four air medals, 88, died Thursday (Nov. 13, 2003) at the Hospice Center after an extended illness.

Cy flew 25 missions over Germany in a B24 as a waist gunner in the 1940s. Retired Air Force Technical Sergeant Kopecky was an Air Force ROTC instructor at the University of Florida from 1958-1964.

He and his wife, Geri, were deployed at several overseas bases including Guam, Germany and Scotland.

Born and raised in Mason City, Iowa, on Nov. 1, 1915, he was a hometown basketball star. He began college there and graduated from Santa Fe College, Gainesville, Fla. in the 1970s. As a young man he worked in CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps).

After retiring from the Air Force in 1967, Mr. Kopecky was a successful car salesman at the Dodge dealerships in Gainesville and Ocala, winning the top salesman award in 1981.

An avid sportsman, he was a trophy fisherman, displaying a 12-pound-8-ounce bass caught in Orange Lake and pictures of 10-foot Marlins from Mazatland, Mexico.

Enjoying golf and bowling, he set records and won awards in the senior bowling league last year, bowling a 634 series (150 pins over average) and qualifying for the Century Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geri, in May of 1996.

Cy is survived by two sisters and their husbands, Millie and Frank Thomsen, of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Rosalyn and Don Ames, of Fremont, Neb.; sister-in-law and her husband, Ginny Hargarten and Tom Hargarten, of Santa Fe Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

A faithful member of First Lutheran Church, Cy served as head usher.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Lutheran Church, 1805 NW Fifth Ave. in Gainesville, Fla.

WESLEY — Al Loebig, 82, of Wesley, died Monday (Nov. 17, 2003) at Wesley.

SAN LEANDRO, Calif.— Phyllis Ann Long, 77, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at her home in San Leandro.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at St. Felicitas Catholic Church in San Leandro. Arrangements were handled by Grissom’s Chapel and Mortuary in San Lorenzo, Calif.

Phyllis was born in Mason City, the youngest of three daughters to Raymond and Marie (Mullen) Arnold. She was baptized at St. Joseph’s Parish and her godparents were her Uncle David and Aunt Mary Donaldson.

As a child, Mary performed with her family in many musical programs as part of the “Arnold Kids” Band while living in North Iowa.

In 1941, the family moved to Richmond, Calif., where she graduated from the local high school. On May 30, 1951, she married Michael Long in Oakwood, Calif. They had lived in San Leandro for 50 years. She worked for the San Leandro Boy’s Club and spent many years as an active parishoner of St. Felicita’s Church. She assisted with the church bulletin and enjoyed traveling with her husband.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 53 years, Michael Long of San Leandro; daughters Eileen (Jay) Kerr of San Ramon, Calif., and Patty (Tom) Carlos of San Jose. Calif.; sisters, Doris Carlson of Oakdale, Calif., and Elaine Huntting of Green Valley, Ariz.; five grandchildren; Erin Kerr of New York City, Nathan Kerr of San Ramon, Calif., and Eric, Ryan and Lauren Carlos of San Jose, Calif.; a niece, Phyllis Ann (Wayne) Parrack and family of Woodburn, Ore.; nephews, Billy Ray (Delores) Carlson of Oakdale, Calif., Dennis (Priscilla) Carlson of Oakdale, Calif.; many cousins, including Sr. Doris Donaldson, PBVM, San Francisco, Ret. Maj. John J. (Wanda) Donaldson of Eureka, Mo., Lois M. A special golden wedding celebration in 2000 included an Alaskan cruise with all their family on board.

LAKE MILLS — Muriel Genor Solomonson, 91, of Lake Mills, died Monday (Nov. 17, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills with the Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be at North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.

Muriel Genor Sorenson Solomonson was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Silver Lake Township, Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Ole J. and Letta (Larson) Sorenson. She was baptized at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood.

She spent her childhood years growing up in Worth County. She then worked at various locations in Winnebago, Worth and Freeborn counties and at the Grand Café in Lake Mills.

On Feb. 19, 1939, she was united in marriage to Ole O. Solomonson in her parents’ home in rural Worth County. Together they farmed for many years until Ole passed away on Jan. 28, 1965.

Muriel loved her family and loved to grow and care for flowers.

After Ole’s death, she moved to Lake Mills and worked for Larson Manufacturing until retirement at age 67.

In 2001, she entered the Lake Mills Care Center where she had resided until illness required her to go to the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, where she passed away early Monday morning.

Muriel is survived by her daughters, Marcene and her husband, Richard Asleson of Rogers, Minn., and LaDonna and her husband, Curtis Flugum of Forest City; grandchildren, Kari and her husband Richard Skloot, Kristi and her husband Michael Upah, Kandi and her husband David Brittain, Michael Flugum, Wesley and his wife Shannon Asleson and Daniel Asleson; great-grandsons, Luke Brittain, Mason Skloot, Jack Brittain and Alex Upah; and one brother Richard Sorenson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ole O.; brothers, Arnold, Juell, Szymour and Orten Sorenson; and sister Violet Sorenson.

CLEAR LAKE — Virginia Nell Summers, 91, of Clear Lake and formerly of West Des Moines, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, with the Rev. Randy Ehrhardt officiating. A brief visitation will be held in the Mauseleum at Resthaven Cemetery one hour before burial.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour preceding the service that the church.

Virginia was born Feb. 11, 1912, in Valley Junction, Iowa. She was the sixth of eight children born to William Emerson and Leona May (Blackman) Tuttle.

She graduated from Valley High School in 1929 and worked for Dean Studio in Des Moines.

She married Blair S. Summers on Feb. 14, 1945, and their only child, Mary Jane, was born nine months later.

Virginia was church secretary at West Des Moines Christian Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She and her husband and many church friends kept a church vital and growing without benefit of modern technology.

Virginia later worked for Look Magazine (Cowles Communications) and Down Computer in Des Moines.

She retired in 1974 following the death of her husband and helped to care for an older sister. She moved to Clear Lake in 1994 to make her home with her daughter and family.

She was “Grandma Ginna” to three granddaughters, and in 2000 became a great-grandmother. She lived a simple life, devoted totally to God and to her family. She enjoyed simple pleasures and dearly loved keeping up with her friends and extended families “out East” and “out West” as well as in West Des Moines.

She was known for her bean-bag clowns and other craft items, and for her hugs.

She was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church and of Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Crail and her husband, Larry, of Clear Lake; granddaughters, Leslie Lagan and her husband, Kyle, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Dr. Hilary Reynolds of Burlington, and Abigail Reynolds of Iowa City; great-granddaughters, Lauren and Bailey Lagan; her last surviving sibling, Marian A. Williams of Norwalk; son-in-law, James Reynolds and his wife, Jane, of Clear Lake; a step-son, Virgil Summers and his wife, Debbie, of Altoona, Pa.; and many dear nieces, nephews and in-laws who meant so much to her.

She has joined her husband Blair; her infant granddaughter, Sarah Julienne Reynolds; her sisters Gladys, Vivian and Marjorie; brothers, Homer, Clyde and Robert; and many dear relatives and friends.

Bill was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Lunker Club and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Bill is survived by a niece, Kathryn Griffith, of Houston, Texas; and a close family friend, Gwen Cory, of Mason City.

Bill was preceded in death by his four brothers, two sisters and two half sisters.

She married Roger Edwards on Dec. 29, 1963, in Mason City. June was a local business owner and she enjoyed international travel, playing cards, the theater and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.

WESLEY — Alvin E. Loebig was born Jan. 23, 1921, at Lismore, Minn., to Edward and Margaret Jensen Loebig. As a young boy, Al moved with his family to Wesley.

Al attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Wesley and graduated from the Wesley High School in 1939.

After his schooling, Al worked with his father in the restaurant business in Wesley for a time.

Al served his country during World War II in the Naval Air Corps.

After his service, Al went into business with his father in the restaurant and billiard business.

Al was married to Adeline Sheda on March 4, 1946, at Chelsea, Iowa. The couple settled in Wesley. In 1949, Al started Al’s Marine near Wesley, where he sold boats and motors. He operated this business for the rest of his life.

Al was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley.

He was a member of the Wesley Fire Department for 26 years, belonged to the former Lion’s Club in Wesley, a member of the Wesley Community Club, was on the Bishop Garrigan Advisory Board when the school was first started and was a member of the Andrews American Legion Post #428 in Wesley.

He enjoyed flying kites and watching football. He also enjoyed teaching his kids to fish and water ski.

Al died on Monday (Nov. 17, 2003) at the Westview Care Center in Britt, where he had been a resident since Oct. 22, 2003. He was 82.

Al is survived by his wife, Adeline, of Wesley; and his children, Richard Loebig, of Yuma, Ariz., Pat Miltner and husband, Lee, of Omaha, Neb., Tom Loebig and wife, Judy, of Wesley, Cindy Fagan and husband, Tom, of Cedar Rapids, and Kim Mayer and husband, Jim, of Cedar Falls. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Bill Loebig and wife, Faye, of Mercedes, Texas, and Gordon Loebig and wife, Carolyn, of Prescott, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Dennis, his daughter-in-law, Alanna, three brothers, Omar, Evroul and Ed; and one sister, Irene Lickteig.

Herbert was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Highlandville, Iowa, the son of Olaf and Alma (Amundson) Mestad. He moved with his parents to a farm south of Clear Lake, then to rural Ventura. He graduated from Ventura High School 1944.

Herbert served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Helen Oettchen on Dec. 7, 1946, in Clear Lake. They farmed in the rural Rockwell area. They moved to a farm south of Clear Lake where he farmed until his retirement.

After his retirement, he enjoyed camping and fishing. He loved his Saturday morning breakfast at Burger King with his brother.

Herbert is survived by his three sons, Lynn Mestad and his wife, Sharon, of Clear Lake, Steven Mestad and his wife, Lori, of Shakopee, Minn., and Brian Mestad and his wife, Gail, of Plymouth, Ind.; brother, Orval Mestad and his wife, Trina, of Clear Lake; sister, Marlys Davis and her husband, Dean, of Apache Jct., Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Kim Mestad, of Clear Lake, Holly Mestad, of Shakopee, Minn., Aaron Mestad and Grace Mestad, of Plymouth, Ind.

He was a salesman in Mason City until 1953 when they moved to Rochester Minn., where he was a salesman. They moved to Chatfield in 1971.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by one son, Leonard (Linda) Poshusta, of Mazeppa, Minn.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane (Roy) Sall, of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his wife on July 1, 1996, one daughter, and four brothers.

GARNER — Ernest L. Woiwod, 78, of Garner, died Tuesday (Nov. 18, 2003) at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Ernest Lawrence Woiwod, the son of Otto and Lulu (Henschen) Woiwod, was born May 31, 1925, on a farm east of Garner. He attended school at St. John’s Parochial School northeast of Garner and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1938.

On Oct. 12, 1947, he married Elaine Peterson at the Lutheran parsonage in Garner. They lived in Ventura for a few years before moving to Garner where they raised their family.

Ernie operated a livestock trucking business until 1952 when he began working at Northern Natural Gas east of Garner.

He retired from the gas plant in 1983 and then drove school bus for the Garner-Hayfield School district.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee and was an usher. Ernie also be-longed to A.A. for eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Garner; two daughters, Laurel McMahon and husband, Jim, of Garner, and Kris Juenger and husband, Tom, of Garner; grandchildren, Natalie Swartout and husband, Joel, of Golden Valley, Minn., Tom McMahon, Bryan Juenger, Jason Juenger and Karla Juenger, all of Garner; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Brennan Swartout and Olivia Juenger; two brothers, Ron Woiwod and wife, Lorraine, of Garner, and Laurice “Pete” Woiwod and wife, Billie, of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

MASON CITY — Albia E. Tracy, 100, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 2003) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

According to Albia’s wishes, her body was donated to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Albia Elizabeth, the daughter of Joseph and Ann (Urdil) Chalupnik, was born April 3, 1903, at Traer, Iowa. During her childhood she lived in Jackson, Minn., with her family for a short time before returning to Iowa when she was nine years old.

As a young adult she worked for the telephone company in Mason City.

She met and later married Edmund Tracy on Oct. 16, 1923, in Mason City. The couple moved to Belmond after Edmund accepted a position as a rural postal carrier.

Albia devoted herself to raising their four children and worked part time as a grocery clerk.

After retiring, the couple enjoyed traveling. They lived in Clear Lake as well as California and Arizona. After Ed became ill they returned to Mason City where Albia cared for him for 15 years until his death.

Albia was an active volunteer for R.S.V.P.

She enjoyed crocheting and had crocheted over one thousand caps for school children.

Albia is survived by one son, Robert and Myrna Tracy of Van Nuys, Calif.; three daughters, Elizabeth and James Malloy of Joice, Kathryn and Duane Tideback of Sun Valley, Calif., and Patricia and William Wyckoff of Carson City, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edmund, three brothers and four sisters.

Jeremy was born Sept. 5, 1979 in Blue Earth, Minn. to Craig E. and Teresa D. (Dresback) Johnson. He graduated from Faribault High School in 1998 and also from North Hennepin Technical College, Brooklyn Park, Minn.

He was employed as a mechanic at Inver Grove Ford and was also a graduate of the Ford Asset Program.

Jeremy was involved in stock car racing, serving as the “tire guy” in the pit crew.

He is survived by his parents, Craig and Terri; three siblings, Tracy Johnson (and her fiancé, George Hemphill) of Faribault, Minn., Marcus Johnson and Randall Johnson, both of Nerstrand, Minn.; grandparents, Beatrice and Ray Smoley of Buffalo Center, Clyde Johnson Sr. of Clear Lake, and Deane and Shirley Dresback of Winterset; one great-grandmother Marcella Johnson of Mason City; and many aunts, uncles and extended family members.
