STACYVILLE — Donald Hemann, 68, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) in Stacyville.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with a rosary beginning at 4 and a prayer service at 7.

MASON CITY — Fern Griben Huntley, 81, of 1410 S. Lakeview Drive, Clear Lake, died Sunday (June 15, 2003) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

DELORES (MRS. ORVAL) MILLER

MASON CITY — Delores (Mrs. Orval) Miller, 81, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, Ill.

Her funeral is tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Plymouth United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth.

Visitation is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, (641) 454-2242.

LAURINE RASMUS

GARNER — Laurine Rasmus, 76, of Garner, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Her funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with the Rev. Robert Bronson officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Laurine Mata August Rasmus, the daughter of Grover Oscar Lawrence and Dorethea Marie (Eske) Halverson, was born March 8, 1927, at St. Ansgar. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by Pastor Paul Brammer. She attended school at St. Ansgar and was valedictorian of her high school graduating class of 1945.

After graduation she went on to receive her lab and X-ray technician degree from the Minnesota Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, Minn.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Eldon Rasmsus on March 25, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by the Rev. H.C. Walters.

For all 52 years of their married life they resided in Garner, where she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Laurine held several different jobs during her lifetime. She first worked as an X-ray and lab technician at the Forest City Municipal Hospital. She worked as a bookkeeper for Yohn Ready Mix in Garner. She was also employed by Drs. Clapsaddle, Dankel and Brownstone in Clear Lake. In her later years, she worked at the Second Hand Shop in Garner and also spent many hours baby sitting for several area families.

Laurine loved to knit and crochet and found great delight in sharing her afghans and sweaters with family members. Her two dogs, Keisha and Mitsi, were her pride and joy.

She was an avid Yankees fan who truly felt there wasn’t a valid World Series unless the Yankees were one of the teams playing. She also loved following her nephews’ and nieces’ athletic events. She was especially interested in following the St. Ansgar Saints, UNI Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks. Most game days you would find her glued to either the television or radio, following every play that was made and taping as many as possible for playback later.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Garner; a sister, Dorothy Hegland of St. Ansgar; a brother-in-law, Warren Rasmsus and his wife, Helen, of Garner; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Rasmsus of Garner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Laurine was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Wilmer; and two brothers-in-law, J.W. (Bill) Hegland and Dean Rasmus.

IRMA A. THEOBALD

STACYVILLE — Irma A. Theobald, 98, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial will be at the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Visitation Catholic Church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Irma was born on May 23, 1905, in Meyer, Iowa, to John and Gertrude (Halfman) Durben. She attended school in Meyer.

Irma married Carl Theobald on Feb. 3, 1932, at Meyer.

She was a member of the Christian Mothers and received a rosary for more than 75 years as a member of the Forresters. Irma loved gardening, whistling and flowers. She had a positive good sense of humor.

Irma is survived by one daughter, Helen Hemann of Austin, Minn.; three sons, Glen of Lake City, Minn., Kenneth of Stacyville, and Roger of Elk Horn, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, three brothers, and four sisters.

OSAGE — Dallas Rowe, 86, of Osage, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Care Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June17, 2003, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be at the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour before services at the church Tuesday.

Dallas was born Jan. 30, 1917, in St. Ansgar, the daughter of Emil and Sadie (Klein) Nack. She attended school in Mitchell.

Dallas was united in marriage to Lester N. Rowe on Nov. 17, 1936.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage and helped with many church dinners and fund raisers for the building of the church. She was a member of the Esther Circle and also of the Sunshine Club and served as chairperson, secretary and treasurer.

Dallas enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and growing flowers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dallas is survived by her husband, Lester N. Rowe of Osage; two sons, Jerald Rowe and his wife, Pat, of Seward, Alaska, and David J. Rowe and his wife, Jane, of Osage; eight grandchildren, Brian Rowe, Leslie Altac, Donna Leffler, Lynn Swenson, Thyra Burke, Christopher Rowe, Mary Anna Rowe and Joseph Rowe; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean Nack of Osage; one brother-in-law, Alan Rowe and his wife, Phyllis, of Port Orchard, Wash.; three sisters-in-law, Alice Nack of Osage, Marvel Kubicek of Osage, and Kathleen Rowe of McGregor, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Sadie Nack; her brother, Donald (Bud) Nack; a sister, Dolores Nack Sipe; a sister-in-law, Rosella Nack; and a grandson, Jon David Rowe.

DONALD F. UEKER

MASON CITY — Donald F. Ueker, 81, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., died Friday (June 13, 2003) at Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Rev. Scott Duffus, St James Lutheran Church, officiating. Private family inurnment services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to the Donald F. Ueker Memorial Fund.

Donald Frederick Ueker was born Sept. 23, 1921, on a farm near Nora Springs, the son of Frederick and Anna (Gashel) Ueker. He was baptized Dec. 4, 1921, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs and also confirmed there. He grew up in the Nora Springs area graduating from Nora Springs High School in 1939.

Upon graduation, he went to Baltimore, Md., where he was employed by Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company of Middle River, Md.

He returned to Nora Springs in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.

Don was united in marriage to Wilma Kupker June 30, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City.

He was employed as a plumber and pipefitter for several companies in Nora Springs, Charles City and Mason City until his retirement in 1983.

Don served on the town council in Nora Springs and church boards in Nora Springs and Mason City. He held various offices in Plumbing and Pipefitters Local #405. He was a Boy Scout leader for 13 years.

At the time of his death, he was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Plumber and Steamfitters Local #33 of Des Moines, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 733.

Don enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends. After retirement, he and wife Wilma spent several winters in the South.

Don is survived by two sons, James Ueker and wife, Patricia, of Mason City, and Richard Ueker and wife, Lila, of Mason City; grandchildren, Nicole Murphy and husband, Patrick, and their children, Andy and Kelly of Camdenton, Mo., Ryan Ueker of Phoenix, Ariz., and Andrea and Lisa Ueker of Mason City.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, sister and nephew.

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Pamela Diane Willand Graham, 52, of Maryville, Mo. died Sunday (June 15, 2003) at her home in Maryville, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville, Mo., with the Rev. Julianne Sifers and Deacon Bonnie Malone officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, 120 E. First St. in Maryville, Mo.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

Pamela Diane Willand was born on Feb. 3, 1951 in Mason City, Iowa, to Clarence and Fern (Morris) Willand. She was a graduate of Lake Mills Community High School, Class of 1969.

She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, with a BS degree in Pharmacy, Class of 1974.

Pamela was united in marriage to Michael Graham on June 16, 1973 in rural Lake Mills.

They have lived in Missouri since 1985.

She was a registered pharmacist. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, AAUW (American Association of University Women), NOW, and many bridge groups in Maryville, Mo.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Graham, of their home in Maryville, Mo.; two daughters, Jennifer Graham Zimmerman, of West Des Moines, and Amanda Graham, of Wichita, Kan.; parents, Clarence and Fern Willand, of Lake Mills, Iowa; two sisters, Penny Nelson, of Lake Mills, and Vicki Bartlett, of Forest City; 10 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Willie and Clara Willand; maternal grandparents, William and Elba Morris.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Visitation Catholic Church, with 4 p.m. rosary and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Donald was born on Aug. 20, 1934, in Stacyville, Iowa to Anton and Alvina (May) Hemann.

He graduated from Visitation High School in 1952 as the class president and also attended Loras College.

He entered the armed services and served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.

In 1956, Donald married Roma Salz. He farmed for 35 years.

Donald was a past president of the school board and the Stacyville Nursing Home.

He was past Grand Knight of the K of C, a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters, and past Farm Bureau Board Member.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Irene Small.

FERN L. (GRIBBEN) HUNTLEY

CLEAR LAKE — Fern L. (Gribben) Huntley, 81, of 1410 S. Lakeshore Drive, Clear Lake, died Sunday (June 15, 2003) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling, officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. with a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Fern was born Feb. 8, 1922 in Mason City to Harley and Avis (Barrick) Knapp. She attended Mason City High School.

In 1939, she married Peter Gribben Sr. He preceded her in death in 1974.

Fern later married Roger Huntley who also preceded her in death in 1995.

Her hobbies included crocheting and taking care of her many flowers. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fern will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family.

Fern is survived by three sons, Peter Gribben and his wife, Joan, Patrick Gribben and his wife, Patricia, all of Mason City, and Timothy Gribben and his wife, Ann, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; one daughter, Ann Deardeuff, of Mason City; a stepson, Larry Lepley and his wife, Rose, of Temecula, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Royden Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Peter Gribben Sr. and Roger Huntley; three sisters, one brother; and a son, Michael Gribben.

OSAGE — Norval C. Jensen, 90, of Osage, died Sunday (June 15, 2003) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage, with the the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery in Osage.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Visitation will continue one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Norval was born March 26, 1913, on the family farm near St. Ansgar, the son of Bert and Matie (Hansen) Jensen. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School.

Norval farmed on the family farm. He was well known for the strawberries they raised.

He was a crop duster, and was employed as an auto mechanic at Jorde Motors in Osage.

He was united in marriage to Erena Dettmann in 1941 and to this union four children were born: Russell, Marvin, Dolores, and Joanne. Erena died in 1970.

Norval was united in marriage to Thelma Birum in 1981. In 1986 they moved to Osage. Thelma died in 2000.

He is survived by two sons, Russell Jensen of St. Ansgar and Marvin (Kathryn) Jensen, of Penland, N.C.; two daughters, Dolores Petrak (Gary) of Minburn, Iowa, and Joanne Kleinwort (Edward) of St. Ansgar; one brother, Harlan Jensen (Naomi) of Fort Worth, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Erena in 1970, and Thelma in 2000; one sister, Avis Loffgreen; and one grandson, Harley Jensen.

ALGONA — Dolores Marie Kramer, 83, of Algona, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at the Algona Manor Care Center.

PLYMOUTH — Delores Leon Miller, 80, of Clinton, Ill., formerly of Plymouth, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Ill.

Her funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Plymouth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lisa Locoh and the Rev. Ed Sinclair officiating. Interment will follow at the Bohemian Cemetery in Plymouth.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly and also for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Delores was born Nov. 2, 1922, in East Moline, Ill., a daughter of George LeRoy and Ida Alvena (Reimers) Shaver. She spent her formative years in Hampton, Iowa.

Delores was united in marriage to Orval C. Miller on Nov. 12, 1950, in Hampton, and they made their home in rural Plymouth. To this union was born one daughter, the Reverend Doctor Roxanne Leone Miller-Sinclair, who survives along with her husband, the Reverend Ed Sinclair and their daughters, Maria Leone and Cristina Roxanne Sinclair, all of Clinton, Ill.

Delores was a lifelong homemaker who also worked for a time as a Certified Nursing Assistant and as a Home Health Aide.

She was a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, a member of the church circle, a member of Beta Sigma Phi cultural sorority, and served for many years as president of the Plymouth Senior Citizens.

She moved to Clinton, Ill. in November of 2002 to live with her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orval; and three sisters, Lois Shindele, Florence Perkins, and Mildred Erichsen.

CHARLOTTE ANDERSON

FOREST CITY — Charlotte Anderson, 81, of Forest City, died Friday (June 13, 2003) in Rochester, Minn.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.

Charlotte D. Anderson was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Inwood, Iowa, to Helmer D. and Johanne (Silvertson) Moen, the third of seven children.

On Nov. 4, 1943, she married Donald R. Anderson. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this fall.

Charlotte graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City with an associate of arts egree and her teaching certificate. She taught in Iowa elementary schools at Milford Consolidated, Ventura, Estherville and the Iowa State University Campus School.

Waldorf College was very special to Charlotte. She met her husband, Donald, when both sang in the Waldorf College Concert Choir under the legendary director Odvin Hagen. After relocating to Forest City in 1953, she rarely missed a concert and looked forward every year to the Christmas concert which always ended with the Concert Choir singing their signature song, “Beautiful Savior,” one of her favorites.

Over the years, she delighted in listening to her sons, Steven and Rolf, future daughter-in-law, Anne Hilleson, and granddaughters, Bergen and Sarri Anderson, sing in the Waldorf Concert Choir.

Charlotte will be remembered for her unshakable optimism and faith in Jesus Christ as her savior. She donated much of her life and time to the work of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving on many circles, teaching Sunday school and helping in any way possible to further the mission of the church.

She will also be remembered for her sewing and knitting talent. She became an expert in the art of knitting. Her sons and grandchildren will cherish the many intricate Norwegian sweaters she made for them over the years.

Charlotte and Don both enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. On several occasions, they lived near their ancestral roots in Stavanger, Norway for periods of four months to a year at a time. One of the more special memories for Charlotte was when she traveled to Norway with her 69-year-old mother, Johanne, in 1965. They visited with many relatives and friends, toured family farms and other special sites.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Donald; son Steven (Los Angeles), son, Rolf and his wife, Anne (Forest City); her brother, Henry Moen (Inwood, Iowa); her sisters, June Katt (Humboldt, Iowa), Mary Anderson (Akron, Iowa) and Norma Jane Hanson (Inwood, Iowa), and her grandchildren, Bergen, Sarri, Liv and Geir Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Herman Moen; and a sister, Angeline (Moen) Hanson.

Harry was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Mason City, the son of Ora G. and May A. (Weir) Willcox. He graduated from Mason City High School.

Harry served as a Seaman 1st Class in the US Navy during World War II.

He married Betty C. DeMoss on Sept. 3, 1957, in Mason City.

He worked for Lehigh Cement Co. for seven years then owned and operated the Elms Hotel for 26 years.

Harry was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion, DAV, Moose Lodge and an avid race car fan.

Harry is survived by his wife; Betty C. Willcox of Mason City; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Hilton and son, Dennis.

GARNER — Laurine Rasmus, 76, of Garner, died Saturday (June 14, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Her funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with the Rev. Robert Bronson officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Laurine Mata August Rasmus, the daughter of Grover Oscar Lawrence and Dorethea Marie (Eske) Halverson, was born March 8, 1927, at St. Ansgar. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by Pastor Paul Brammer. She attended school at St. Ansgar and was valedictorian of her high school graduating class of 1945.

After graduation she went on to receive her lab and X-ray technician degree from the Minnesota Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, Minn.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Eldon Rasmsus on March 25, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by the Rev. H.C. Walters.

For all 52 years of their married life they resided in Garner, where she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Laurine held several different jobs during her lifetime. She first worked as an X-ray and lab technician at the Forest City Municipal Hospital. She worked as a bookkeeper for Yohn Ready Mix in Garner. She was also employed by Drs. Clapsaddle, Dankel and Brownstone in Clear Lake. In her later years, she worked at the Second Hand Shop in Garner and also spent many hour baby sitting for several area families.

Laurine loved to knit and crochet and found great delight in sharing her afghans and sweaters with family members. Her two dogs, Keisha and Mitsi, were her pride and joy.

She was an avid Yankees fan who truly felt there wasn’t a valid World Series unless the Yankees were one of the teams playing. She also loved following her nephews’ and nieces’ athletic events. She was especially interested in following the St. Ansgar Saints, UNI Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks. Most game days you would find her glued to either the television or radio, following every play that was made and taping as many as possible for playback later.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Garner; a sister, Dorothy Hegland of St. Ansgar; a brother-in-law, Warren Rasmus and his wife, Helen, of Garner; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Rasmus of Garner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Laurine was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Wilmer; and two brothers-in-law, J.W. (Bill) Hegland and Dean Rasmus.

MASON CITY — Mel G. Foley, 88, of 49 Winnebago Way, died Monday (June 16, 2003) at his home.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran’s Memorial Association.

Mel Foley was born Oct. 23, 1914, at Westside, Iowa. His parents were George and Mary Cornelia (Cuddy) Foley.

He attended rural school through the seventh grade, and then went to Westside Consolidated school where he graduated in 1931 at the age of 16.

The subsequent year he attended St. Ann’s Academy for a post graduate course.

He worked on the family farm for the next six years during the Great Depression. In 1938, he enrolled at Creighton University where he graduated in 1942 with a degree in business administration.

In the fall of 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps serving until November 1945. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and spent most of his service in Puerto Rico with the headquarters of the Antilles Air Command.

In January of 1946, he accepted a position as Internal Revenue Agent in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1955, he was transferred to Mason City and promoted to Administrative Officer and Audit Group Supervisor.

On Dec. 31, 1973, he retired from government service and then took up a career in real estate which lasted until Dec. 31, 1998.

In May 1946, he married Jane McManus at St. Joseph Church in Carroll, Iowa. Both being of Irish descent, they enjoyed tracing their family trees back to Ireland. In doing so, they made eight trips there and found “new” relatives.

He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus.

He served on the Holy Family Church Council and also was an usher.

He was one of the first presidents of the Newman Booster Club and for many years he was the President of the Board for the local Birthright chapter.

Mel bowled 24 years with the Knights of Columbus leagues (men’s and mixed doubles).

He also loved playing softball as a member of the Holy Family Church team in the City Church league for a number of years.

Mel is survived by his wife Jane, two sons, Greg and Jim, and Jim’s wife, Rita, all of Mason City, and granddaughter Kristi Skinner and her husband, Michael, and two great-grandsons, Charlie and Ben Skinner of Lake Forest, Ill., his sister-in-law, Julie McManus of Sun City, Ariz., and 17 nieces and nephews and numerous friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Francis Foley and his wife, Helena; two sisters, Edna and Genevieve Foley; a brother-in-law, William J. McManus; and his sister-in-law, Catherine Wenzel and her husband, Clarence.

ST. ANSGAR — Neal Richard Fossey, 46, of St. Ansgar, died Sunday (June 15, 2003) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Neal was born Nov. 5, 1956, in Austin, Minn., the son of Leo and Joan (Bridgeman) Fossey. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn. Neal grew up in rural St. Ansgar and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1975, and continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa, studying agriculture.

Neal was united in marriage to Cindy Johnson on July 11, 1981, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn., by the Rev. Harold Luecke. To this loving marriage three children were born, Eric, Heidi, and Benjamin. For all their married life, Neal and Cindy were members of Deer Creek Lutheran Church, rural Carpenter.

Neal enjoyed all aspects of sports, whether playing softball or basketball with family and friends; coaching his children’s teams; or spectating in his spare time.

He especially treasured the time that he spent with his wife and three children.

Neal also loved taking care of his livestock and enjoyed everyday to the fullest up until the end, when he died doing what he loved, playing basketball.

Neal was preceded in death by his father, Leo Fossey; mother-in-law, Lucille Johnson; sister-in-law, Kathy Johnson; maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.

She enjoyed raising cage birds, including finches and canaries, and going to bird shows, swap meets, and flea markets.

She helped with the family farm and also with the dairy business which they had from 1940 to 1942. Cheryl helped with a self-service egg business on the farm.

She was always cooking for the men on the farm.

She enjoyed her crafts, sew-ing and birds.

Cheryl loved her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Ann; one son, Larry; one grandson, Tom; one brother, Robert Whitney; and one sister, Annzonetta Pienneke.

She was united in marriage to Clemence “Clem” Meyerhofer on April 9, 1947, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, Minn.

They farmed in the Stacy-ville area until their retirement in 1981 when they moved to Osage. Clem died on Aug. 15, 1998.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and active in the church choir and various church activities.

Rose was an avid card player (Bridge & Canasta). She was also an avid baker who enjoyed sharing her baked goods.

Her greatest joys were her family, faith and friends.

She is survived by four daughters, Sister Nancy Meyerhofer, of San Diego, Calif., Arlene Erickson (Lowell) of Kenyon, Minn.; Bea Young of Altadena, Calif.; Peggy Meyerhofer of Kenyon, Minn.; four sons, Nick Meyerhofer (Cheri) of Flagstaff, Ariz., Roger Meyerhofer (Wanda) of Owatonna, Minn., Ben Meyerhofer of Britt, and Andy Meyerhofer (Liz) of Osage; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Theresa Heimerman (John) of Blooming Prairie, Minn., Catherine Jenkins of Grapeview, Wash., Alice Bulson of Faribault, Minn., and Dorothy Swehla (Ron) of Prescott, Ariz; one brother, Ben Schmidt (Mary) of Owatonna, Minn.

ROCKWELL — Martin Luttmann, 66, of 4506 Partridge Ave., Rockwell, died Wednesday (June 18, 2003) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Martin was born April 25, 1937, the son of Gustav “Gus” and Emma (Hinrichs) Luttmann in Rockwell, Iowa.

Martin has lived his entire life on the family farm south of Rockwell except for the time he was away serving his country in the United States Army.

Martin graduated from the Rockwell High School in the Class of 1956.

On Jan. 4, 1960, Martin was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country until his honorable discharge on March 16, 1962. Part of Martin’s service time was spent at Arlington Nat-ional Cemetery on the Honor Guard.

On Sept. 18, 1976, Martin was united in marriage to Ruby Thompson at the First United Methodist Church in Mason City.

Martin loved to work especially with anything that had to do with farming. Martin loved animals and enjoyed working with his livestock over the years.

He could often be found overhauling a piece of his machinery or visiting with friends and family. Martin had a quest for knowledge that attracted him to attend Farmers Night School to learn new concepts in farming, or spend some time at the library.

Martin enjoyed watching tennis on TV. He was an excellent Ping Pong player.

In Martin’s later years he looked forward to watching his great grandchildren play.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. —The memorial service for Kenneth Richard Beckman, 79, of Bloomington, Ill., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Normal, Ill., with Dr. James Bortell officiating.

Mr. Beckman was born July 20, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Carl and Alice Beckman.

He married Eleanore H. Gaffri on Dec. 31, 1943, in Oakland, Calif.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years; son, Greg Alan (Michelle) Beckman of Normal, Ill.; and daughter, Suellyn Brewster of Bloomington, Ill.; grandchildren, Clayton Richard (Maria) Brewster of LaGrange, Ill., Jason Charles (friend Mami Matsuda) of Nagoya, Japan, Amber LiAnn (Joshua) Brewster-Graning of Bloomington, Ill. and Jessica Diane Beckman of Normal, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Amanda, Morgan and Victoria Brewster, and Jordan Beckman-Frye.

A sister, Evelyn Ranger, of Antioch, Calif.; in-laws and good friends, Mary and James Paxton, of Seattle, Wash., and Robert and Rachel Gaffri, of Billings, Mont.; many nieces and nephews; cousins, Harold (Dixie) Grenier of Omaha, Neb., and Roger (Naomi) Ostby of Cedar Falls.

His parents and a sister, Shirley Beckman Angell, preceded him in death.

Ken was a man who set a good example for all he met. He loved his family , friends and life.

He was a decorated World War II veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Jenkins from 1942-1946 in the Atlantic and Pacific.

Kenneth taught in Mason City, Iowa, from 1950-1960 and then began teaching at ISU in the Special Education Department, retiring in 1983. He had degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa and University of Illinois.

He enjoyed attending ship reunions and high school re-unions. Ken also made many friends during winter vacations in Orange Beach, Ala., and in his mall walking group.

He was an avid sports fan and a lifetime Cub fan. He loved watching the Cubs and the Bulls. Ken also enjoyed fishing, playing cards,and traveling.

He was a good Christian, father, husband, grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

ROCK FALLS — Donald W. Hinrichsen, 78, of 301 E. River Road, died Thursday (June 19, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rock Falls Old Stone United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lisa Locoh and the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Interment will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery.

Don was born May 31, 1925, on a farm two miles east of Rock Falls, the son of Martin and Margaret Hinrichsen. He graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1941.

Following high school, Don farmed with his brother, Earl, and with his parents.

On Feb. 24, 1952, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Liz” Goll at the United Church of Christ in Klemme. Into this marriage were born three children, Jay Allen, Sandra Kay and Dee Ann.

For the first five years of their marriage, Don and Liz farmed the Hinrichsen farm southwest of Nora Springs.

In 1956, they purchased a building in Rock Falls and opened Don’s Farm Store. Don and Liz were partners in life and work, operating the farm store for 30 years.

Don served his community as mayor of Rock Falls for 16 years and was a member of the Rock Falls Old Stone United Methodist Church.

In 1976, Don and Liz lost their son, Jay, in a car accident. Following Jay’s death, Don and Liz raised Jay’s son, Kurt. In 1985, Don and Liz sold the farm store.

In retirement, Don enjoyed participating in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, attending numerous baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer games.

Don and Liz loved to travel and took their entire family on many memorable vacations. The entire family has many special memories of their an-nual fishing trips to Leech Lake, Minn.

Don enjoyed socializing with their many friends, playing cards and games and spending winters in their home in Alamo, Texas, where they made a whole new set of friends.

He was a dedicated father, grandfather and volunteer at KCMR Radio. He had a love for practical jokes, life, his family, friends, church, community and had a knack for making people laugh.

Don is survived by his wife, Liz, of Rock Falls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Tony Wyborny of Fishers, Ind., and Dee and Roger Pearce of Mason City; grandson, Kurt Hinrichsen and his wife, Michelle, of Washington, Iowa; grandchildren, Tonya “Sweetie Pie” Wyborny of Cedar Falls, Troy “Troy Boy” Wyborny of Fishers, Ind., Angela “Dolly” and Ashley “Sugar Plum” Pearce of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Madysen and Kolten Hinrichsen of Washington, Iowa; his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and George “Page” Reynolds of Mason City; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Louise Hinrichsen of Osage; two sisters-in-law, Betty Hinrichsen of Nora Springs and Emma Johnson of Garner; and many nephews and nieces.

CLEAR LAKE — John S. Fishel, 69, died Wednesday (June 18, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Interment will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake VFW.

John was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Everette and Doris (Gieger) Fishel. He attended school in Walker, Iowa. He married Betty Reece on Sept. 3, 1955, in Walker.

He served in the United States Army and they lived in Oklahoma. After the service, they moved to Independence, Iowa, where John worked at Massey Ferguson and at the United Methodist Church as custodian. In 1972, he transferred to Clear Lake with Massey Ferguson.

John married Edna Krull Aug. 15, 1993. He worked at the United Methodist Church Camp and later worked with Frank Bescher. He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church.

He worked at the Clear Lake State Park and in January 2003 became certified by the DNR.

John loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spoiling them. He was known to play jokes on them. He was a big John Wayne fan, and enjoyed traveling, camping, woodworking and fishing. John always kept busy doing odd jobs for his friends. He loved life to the fullest.

John is survived by three children, Randy Fishel, Clear Lake, Rick Fishel and his wife, Sherri, Mason City, and Wanda Folkerts and her husband, Larry, Crystal Lake; five grandchildren, Eric Fishel, Travis Folkerts, Ryan Fishel, Megan Fishel and Tracie Folkerts; three brothers, Gary Fishel, New Hampton, Rex Fishel, Cedar Rapids, and Craig Fishel, Manchester; one sister Karen Shaffer, Fredericksburg, Va., and special friend Sharon Koehler, Charles City.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Betty and Edna, and his sister, Linda.

OSAGE — Rose A. Meyerhofer, 80, of Osage, died Tuesday (June 17, 2003) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Emergency Room in Osage.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. After services, cremation will take place and inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Osage.

Visitation is from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Rose was born on Jan. 21, 1923, in Walters, Minn., the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Fischer) Schmidt.

She was united in marriage to Clemence “Clem” Meyerhofer on April 9, 1947, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, Minn.

They farmed in the Stacyville area until their retirement in 1981, when they moved to Osage. Clem died on Aug. 15, 1998.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in the church choir and various church activities.

Rose was an avid card player (bridge and canasta). She was also an avid baker who enjoyed sharing her baked goods.

Her greatest joys were her family, faith and friends.

She is survived by four daughters, Sister Nancy Meyerhofer, of San Diego, Calif., Arlene Erickson (Lowell) of Kenyon, Minn.; Bea Young of Altadena, Calif.; Peggy Meyerhofer of Kenyon, Minn.; four sons, Nick Meyerhofer (Cheri) of Flagstaff, Ariz., Roger Meyerhofer (Wanda) of Owatonna, Minn., Ben Meyerhofer of Britt and Andy Meyerhofer (Liz) of Osage; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Theresa Heimerman (John) of Blooming Prairie, Minn., Catherine Jenkins of Grapeview, Wash., Alice Bulson of Faribault, Minn., and Dorothy Swehla (Ron) of Prescott, Ariz.; one brother, Ben Schmidt (Mary) of Owatonna, Minn.

IDA L. MCELROY

MASON CITY — Ida L. McElroy, 86, died Wednesday (June 18, 2003) at U.S.A. Healthcare in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., Mason City, with Pastor Tom Healy, chaplain at Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of service at the church Saturday.

Ida was born Feb. 26, 1917, the daughter of Dick and Minnie (Eliason) Grifhorst of Kanawha, Iowa. After graduation from her hometown high school, Ida attended cosmetology school in Des Moines and earned her beautician’s license in 1938.

While commuting between Mason City to Kanawha and Chicago, during the later stages of the war, she met Bill McElroy on a train. A Coast Guard sailor on leave, Bill, of Mason City, and Ida began a friendship which would culminate in their marriage in Chicago on Nov. 12, 1944.

The couple moved to Mason City, where Bill became a city policeman until his retirement in 1980 and Ida worked as a beautician.

Ida served as an election-day volunteer numerous times and was a league bowler for many years. Her team went to the state tournament occasionally.

A loving and supportive mother, Ida’s good humor and caring were ever-present, even during the last decade as she courageously battled Alzheimer’s disease.

Ida and Bill (who died Feb. 28, 2000) were active members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years.

Ida’s family wishes to thank the staff at U.S.A. Healthcare for their loving and tender care and attention she received.

JAMES ‘JIM’ TURNBULL

MASON CITY — James “Jim” Irwin Turnbull, 60, of Mason City, died Tuesday, (June 17, 2003) at his home.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.

Following the service and according to Jim’s wishes, his body will be cremated.

James Irwin Turnbull was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Charles City, Iowa, son of Clifford and Leona (Awe) Turnbull. He grew up in Rockford and attended school in Rockford and Nora Springs.

Jim worked as a truck driver for most of his life, both self-employed and for several businesses, including Kelley Truck Line and Bonner Trucking.

He owned the Waterhole tavern in Rockwell for a number of years before driving truck for Ruan in Mason City.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his buddies, gambling and playing cards.

Jim is survived by two sons, Troy Turnbull, of Nora Springs, and Scott Turnbull and his wife, Candis, of Mason City; one sister, Joan Marrs and her husband, Jon, of Charles City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joel Turnbull, and a nephew, David Ward; and a brother-in-law, Gary Ward.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Leola D. Espinosa, 96, of Minneapolis, died Monday (June 16, 2003).

She was born July 3, 1906, in McCallsburg, Iowa.

She was a retired employee of Decker’s packing plant in Mason City.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation only will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City.

She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Ted) Mohnkern, of Sartell, Minn.; grandchildren, Chris Lustig, of Minne-apolis, Minn., Bruce (Theresa) Mohnkern, of Big Lake, Minn., Laurie Mohnkern, of Minne-apolis, Scott (Penny) Mohnkern, of Princeton, Minn., and Janet (Al) Kumala, of Columbia Heights, Minn.; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
