IRENE J. OGDEN

OSAGE - Irene J. Ogden, 75, of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

PARKE J. STEECE

PERRY - Parke J. Steece, 88, of Perry, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Parke J. Steece, son of Matt Steadman Steece and Eva Moore Steece, was born March 20, 1913, in Mason City.

Parke grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. On Aug. 20, 1939, Parke was united in marriage to Dorothy Gitz. They became parents to daughter Jackie and son Jay.

On Dec. 15, 1943, Parke was inducted into the United States Navy. He served his country as a radarman and was honorably discharged on Dec. 11, 1945. He returned to his family in Mason City and Parke began working for the Gibbs-Cook Equipment Co. During the next year, Parke was transferred to Des Moines.

In 1950, Parke bought the Perry Ready Mix Co. and the family moved to Perry. After nearly 20 years, Parke sold the company and began working at the Oscar Mayer Meat processing plant in Perry.

After retiring from Oscar Mayer, he worked for the City of Perry for the parks department and later as a building inspector.

Parke was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Perry Golf and Country Club, the Otley Masonic Lodge #299 A.F. & A.M., the Loyal Order of the Moose #1340, and the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Elks #407.

Because of his failing health, he entered the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in July 2001.

Preceding Parke in death were his parents; two brothers, Arno and Harold; and two sisters, Florence Snyder and Dorothy Millis.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Steece, of Perry; son, Jay Steece and his friend, Kelly Meier, of Bouton; daughter, Jackie Yakel and her friend, Terry Wagner, of Perry; five grandchildren, Alysha DeHoet and her husband, Casey, Halley Steece, Kiarha Steece, Bryan Yakel and his wife, Michelle, and Jennifer Yakel; five great-grandchildren, Cole and Cayla DeHoet and Katlynne, Mackenzie and Kylee Yakel; nieces, Dixie Storkman and her husband, Warren, of California, and Virginia Caskey and her husband, Jim, of West Virginia; nephew, Richard Snyder and his wife, Jan, of Pennsylvania; other relatives, and many friends.

ESTHER OSBORNE

BUFFALO CENTER - Esther Osborne, 95, of Buffalo Center, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center, with Pastor Paul Haugen officiating. Burial will be in Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held one hour before services on Saturday at First Baptist Church.

KENNETH O. BOLLER

BELMOND - Kenneth "Kenney" O. Boller, 81, of Belmond, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at home.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Belmond Honor Guard and the Goodell American Legion Post 420.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, and one hour before services at the church.

ARTHUR L. BALDNER

ST. ANSGAR - Arthur L. Baldner, 97, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) in La Crosse, Wis.

His funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, with the Rev. Daniel Wee officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Toterville.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Arthur Ludwig Karl Baldner was born Jan. 7, 1904, to Phillip and Bertha (Decklever) Baldner on a farm east of Elkton, Minn. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church west of Elkton. In 1913 he moved with his family to their farm northeast of Toeterville. He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Toeterville in 1917.

He was married to Maurine Nelson on May 1, 1938, at the Congregational Church in Osage. In 1941 they purchased their farm northeast of Toeterville, where they lived until 1973 when they moved to St. Ansgar.

He was a member of St.Peter's Lutheran Church where he held many offices in the church. He helped organize the Lutheran Brotherhood, was the first president for many years, was on the building committee and sang in the choir.

Arthur was a boys 4-H leader for many years and a beef supervisor at the county fair. He served on the Mitchell County Extension, was on the A.S.C., was a member of Farm Bureau and held several offices. He worked at Schroeder & Dunn's Furniture Store and was on the Maple Manor board until he resigned when he was 90 years old. He was a very active and involved community leader, although he was challenged with eye problems for many years and was totally blind since 1989.

Art and Maurine spent the winter in Mesa, Ariz., for 17 years, where they went on many sightseeing trips. They enjoyed the warm weather and made many new friends there. Art loved traveling to visit and spend time with his children and grandchildren wherever they lived.

He is survived by his wife, Maurine, of 63 years; two daughters, Audrey (Ronnie) Clausen of Rochester, Minn., and Carol (Andy) Payant of Tempe, Ariz.; a son, Gerald (Betty) Baldner of La Crosse, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Becky Stewart of Gilbert, Ariz., Kristie (Eldon) Anderson of Rochester, Minn., Bonnie (Tim) Jewell of Queen Creek, Ariz., Bruce (Colleen) Clausen of Eagan, Minn., Brad Nagle of Tempe, Ariz., Tami (Jeff) Nabor of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jody (Craig) Lyon of La Crosse, Wis., Leslie Baldner of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jason (Lynzi) Baldner of La Crosse, Wis.; 11 great-grandchildren, Joseph Mason of Gilbert, Ariz., T. J. Jewell of Queen Creek, Ariz., Kaylee and Monika Anderson of Rochester, Minn., Karina, Shelby and Brody Clausen of Eagan, Minn., Sierra and Preston Lyon of La Crosse, Wis., Lyvia Baldner of La Crosse, Wis., and Alicia Baldner of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister-in-law, Iva Nelson of Ames; nephews, Russell Baldner of Spillville, David and Mark Nelson of Ames; and one cousin, Eldon Small, of Osage.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Bertha Baldner; one brother, Irwin; and his son-in-law, Andy Payant.

WILLIAM SIEMENS

FOREST CITY - William Siemens, 74, of Forest City, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient in Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Church of Christ in Fertile, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.

MAHALA MEADE CARROLL

FAIRFAX, Va. - Mahala Meade Carroll, 76, died July 8, 2001, in Arlington, Va.

Mahala was born in Mason City on April 5, 1925, the daughter of Clarke F. and Clara E. Meade. She attended St. Joseph's Academy through the 8th grade and graduated from Mason City High School in 1942.

She invested her life in her family. By living example she taught those around her the values of Christianity, a positive attitude, music, life and family. She was a beloved wife, the mother everyone would have chosen if they could. We were blessed to have her as ours.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Col. Robert Maurice Carroll, U.S.A., Ret., also a native of Mason City; children, Matthew Robert Carroll, Mahala Carroll Morefield, Kevin Francis Carroll, Col. John Patrick Carroll, Dr. Camilla Carroll Hersh and Rita Carroll Joseph; as well as 15 grandchildren.

A son, Timothy, died in infancy.

Her surviving siblings are Germaine M. Strong, Winifred M. Nordstrom, Barbara M. Piegari, Rita M. Kirkpatrick, Therese M. Hibbard and Anthony N. Meade.

A memorial Mass was celebrated in the chapel and inurnment followed at Arlington National Cemetery on Aug. 31, 2001.

ORVA JANE SMITH

CLEAR LAKE - Orva Jane Smith, 92, of the Clear Lake, Ventura area, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

There will be a memorial prayer service at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

The family of Orva Jane Smith has requested that memorial contributions be made to the North Iowa Humane Society in her memory.

Orva Jane Smith was born on Sept. 12, 1909, in rural Ventura, the daughter of William Roy and Golden Lily (Emmons) Davis. She attended and received her education in the Ventura school system, graduating from Ventura High School.

In the late 1940s, Orva worked for the Hopkins Sporting Goods company in Des Moines until 1957, when she moved back to Ventura to care for her parents.

She was united in marriage to Melvin Scherf in 1957 until his death in January 1979.

She was united in marriage to R. John Smith on Dec. 3, 1979, in Pasco, Wash. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1998.

Orva was baptized at her home in Salem, Ore., by a Lutheran minister, and continued to live in Salem until moving back to her beloved Iowa in September 2001.

She enjoyed the great outdoors, taking drives, animals, gardening, and taking care of the home.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Bob B. Kramer and his wife, Arlene, of Clear Lake; two stepdaughters, Rachel K. Levine and her husband, Richard, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Linda K. Leaf and her husband, Norman, of St. Charles, Mo.; three grandchildren, Kim Kramer, of Greensboro, N.C., Karyl Kramer, of Brighton, Colo., Kelly Epperson and her husband, David, of Henderson, Nev.; two stepgrandchildren, Sara Ann Levine and Amy Levine, both of the Seattle, Wash. Area; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer DeRoock, Nicole Hodge, Amanda Epperson, Jamie Hoskinson, Joshua Epperson, Erin Hoskinson and Matthew Epperson; three great-great grandchildren, Jessie, Kylle and Kacey-lynn DeRoock; as well as other relatives and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant daughter; and infant brother, Marvin Davis.

DEAN F. CRONE

WODEN - Dean F. Crone, 81, of Woden, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Interment will be in Bingham Township Cemetery, south of Woden.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Woden, and one hour before services at the church

Dean F. Crone, the son of John and Nora (Aldrich) Crone, was born on a farm southwest of Woden in Bingham Township on Oct. 17, 1920. He attended country school in Bingham Township and graduated from Woden High School in 1939. Dean farmed with his family after high school.

Dean was married to Jean Arlene Lonning on a very cold Feb. 2, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Crystal Lake. They often fondly recalled that it was so cold that the Limburger cheese that had been placed on the manifold of their car would not melt. Together they farmed and raised their family in the Thompson, Crystal Lake and Woden areas until 1986.

They moved to Woden at that time while continuing to farm. Dean retired in 1994, but enjoyed farming with his son, Jim, until the fall of 2000, when he became Jean's fulltime caregiver. Dean entered the Titonka Care Center on Oct. 16, 2001, and passed away under the care of Hospice on Oct. 24, 2001, 18 days after the death of Jean, his wife of 55 years.

Dean enjoyed his family, farming and socializing with friends. He was an avid reader and liked to work hard. Dean's family remembers him for his quiet, calm manner. He left his family with principles and the wisdom for living life in a kind, forgiving and positive way. They feel they have some very large, quiet shoes to fill.

Dean is survived by three children, Penny Leuwerke and her companion, Doug Blakely, of Indianola, Jim Crone and his wife, Becky, of Woden, and Susan Fehlhafer and her husband, Tommy, of Princeton, Ill. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; his brother, Wilbur Crone and his wife, Evelyn, of Clear Lake; his sister-in-law, Rose Crone, of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents; sister, Esther; and brothers, Albert and Alfred.

ELLAMAE ZIESMER

MESA, Ariz. - Ellamae Ziesmer, 81, of Mesa, Ariz., died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at Mesa, Ariz.

Private graveside services will be held at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Ellamae Ziesmer, the daughter of John and Myrtle Goodell, was born April 11, 1920, at Clear Lake. She attended rural school and Clear Lake High School, graduating in 1936. She attended Hamilton School of Business in Mason City.

On Aug. 3, 1940, she was married to Marvin Ziesmer. Ellamae accepted a position as educational secretary in the Cedar Falls Public School system. She retired after 21 years and moved with her husband to Mesa.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marvin W. Ziesmer, of Mesa; a brother, Franklyn Goodell and his wife, Marilyn, of Bemidji, Minn.; a sister, Betty Krost and her husband, Richard, of Faribault, Minn.; and four sisters-in-law, Doris Goll and her husband, Dean, of Garner, Jeanne Stille and her husband, Clinton, of Emmetsburg, Virginia Ziesmer of Bend, Ore., and Robertine Gatchel, of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John E. Goodell.

KENSETT - Brian Charles Taylor, 34, of Kensett, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at his home in Sonora, Calif.

WAVA OPAL LANGLITZ

GOODELL - Wava Opal Langlitz, 88, lifelong resident of the Goodell area, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond, where she had been a resident since Oct. 9, 2001.

Wava Wilson, was born on Oct. 5, 1913, at Goodell, the daughter of Leonard "Len" and Mary (Oleson) Wilson. She attended and graduated from Goodell High School.

She married Ira Langlitz, on Jan. 21, 1933, at Austin, Minn. They celebrated their 68th anniversary this year. She was a lifelong member of the Goodell United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Goodell American Legion Auxiliary.

Wava was a lifelong homemaker and farmed with her husband in Twin Lake Township, northwest of Goodell, for 35 years, retiring in 1972. The couple then moved into Goodell.

Wava enjoyed playing cards, working jigsaw puzzles and having her family come to visit.

She and Ira enjoyed spending their winters in the South for 25 years.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Ira; and her two sons, Larry and his wife, Gail, and Kenneth Langlitz, all of Goodell; one daughter-in-law, Sherry Langlitz, of Garner; a brother-in-law, Forrest Langlitz, of Klemme; grandchildren, Leon and his wife, Denise Langlitz, of Lenexa, Kan., Kimberly and her husband, Clayton Palmquist, of West Chester, Rebecca and her husband, Jan Tvedt, of Britt, Stacey Trager, of Britt, Tom Langlitz, of Lenexa, Kan., and Nancy Langlitz, of Garner; five great-grandchildren, Michael Trager, Alex Palmquist, Ashley Langlitz and Taylor and Tannyn Tvedt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Eileen, in 1999; a son, Bill, in 2000; son-in-law, Myron Trager; three sisters, Viola, Norva and Avis; and three brothers, Harvey, Verdie and Verdale.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Goodell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Interment will be at the Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, and will continue one hour before the services on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Goodell United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.

MASON CITY - Charles L. Larsen, 50, of 429 19th St. S.W., died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

KENNETH 'KENNY' O. BOLLER

BELMOND - Kenneth "Kenny" O. Boller, 81, of Belmond, passed away Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at his home in Belmond surrounded by all of his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Belmond Honor Guard and members of Goodell American Legion Post No. 420.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church.
Kenneth "Kenny" O. Boller, the son of Anton and Catherine (Langlitz) Boller, was born May 12, 1920, in Goodell. He grew up in the Goodell area and graduated from Goodell High School in 1938. Following high school, Kenneth went to the CC Camp in Decorah.
Kenneth was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the European Theater of Operations. Kenny was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division. He was very proud of his service to his country. Kenny was honorably discharged during February of 1946 having attained the rank of tech sergeant.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Ruby Gabrielson on Aug. 9, 1942, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church near Belmond. The couple made their home in Goodell where they raised their family. They moved to Belmond in 1996. Kenneth was employed by Hancock County Road Maintenance for 40 years, where he was a foreman. He retired in 1986.
Kenny was a very avid sports fan. He loved watching and participating in sports activities and was very supportive of the Hawkeyes, Twins, Vikings and Belmond Broncos.
Kenny loved to work outside and took great pride in his yard. Kenny also enjoyed riding in the snowplow at night with his kids.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby, of Belmond; two daughters, Debra Shannon and her husband, Mike, of Eagan, Minn., and Krista VanderLinden and her husband, Craig, of Sheldon; one son, Nicholas Boller and his wife, Faythe, of Belmond; six grandchildren, Danielle and Kyle Shannon, Molly and Andrew VanderLinden and Reece and Nicole Boller; and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Erwin, Roy, Wes, Walter, Edwin, Tony, Harvey, Bill and one who died in infancy; and one sister Lucille.

BELMOND - Dorothy E. Gram, 75, of Belmond, died on Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at the Belmond Medical Center.

ROCKFORD - Rosella Ross, 81, of 907 W. Congress, Nora Springs, formerly of 301 Seventh St. N.E., Rockford, died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

OSAGE - Irene J. Ogden, 75, of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Irene was born March 21, 1926, in Osage, the daughter of Earl Hartwig Snyder and Wilma (Ketelsen) Snyder. She graduated from Osage High School in 1942.
Irene married Leo Ogden in April of 1942 in Winona, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed on April 3, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. Irene and Leo lived in Osage. Leo died in June of 1988.
She was employed in the bakery at Larsen's Jack & Jill until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Christian F. Gugel officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Pape of Osage; a son, Daniel Ogden and his wife, LaDonna, of Osage; six grandchildren, Colleen Brandt, Tonya Hanson, Shawna Brandt, Wanda Cartrette, Rick Ogden and Devin Ogden; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo, in 1988; and a son, Richard Ogden.

FOREST CITY - William R. Siemens, 74, of Forest City, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

William R. Siemens was born on Feb. 28, 1927, the second of six children, to Marinus and Jennie (Hanson) Siemens at Goldfield, in Wright County. Bill attended country school at Boone Township No.6.
He began his high schools days at Renwick. When in his senior year, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and received his high school diploma.
On April 12, 1947, he married Arlene Bakken at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Two daughters, Sandra and Susan, completed the family. They farmed in the Kanawha area for 10 years before moving to their farm near Crystal Lake. They then retired to their rural home near Forest City.
Besides farming, Bill was actively involved in the machinery business where he enjoyed collecting antique machinery. He also enjoyed scouting the countryside for artifacts. Unable to get around in his later years, he treasured the many family gatherings at his home, where sports, skip-bo, cribbage and guitar music created good memories.
Bill was a member of the American Legion and the Farm Bureau. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.
Those left to continue on are his wife, Arlene; his daughter, Sandy, and her husband, Cecil Welhousen, of Titonka; five grandsons, of whom he was very proud and to whom much advice was given. They are Scott Welhousen, Daniel Welhousen and Ryan Welhousen and his wife, Renae, all of Titonka, Eric Tibesar and his fiancee, Amy Beachy, of Iowa City, and Damon Tibesar of Coralville, and his son, Clayton. Bill leaves two sisters, Betty Andersen of Nora Springs and Margrete and her husband, Wayne Douglas, of Park Rapids, Minn.; and three brothers and their spouses, Ken and Carol Siemens of Joplin, Mo., Don and Velma Siemens of Tulsa, Okla., and Bernie and Mary Siemens of Onamia, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sue; a sister-in-law; his parents; and grandparents.

JEFFERSON - Anne F. Williamson, 54, died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at Greene County Medical Center.

Anne Cummins Fuller Williamson, daughter of Lowell and Jane Culbertson Fuller, was born Nov. 12, 1946, in Burlington. She attended public schools in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1964. In 1968, Anne graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell. While a student at Grinell College, she met Ben Williamson and they were married in Burlington on June 1, 1968.

Anne and Ben have lived in several communities in Iowa. They moved to Jefferson from Mason City in 2000.

Anne was employed at the Jefferson Bee & Herald Newspaper in Jefferson. She was a member of P.E.O. and Friends of the Jefferson Library. Anne belonged to the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson, where she was a newly elected Deacon.

Anne was an avid gardener. She loved nature, all birds and animals. Anne was a wonderful woman who dearly loved her family and showed amazing courage and determination in the face of her illness.

Preceding Anne in death were her father, Lowell Fuller, and her foster sister, Mary Helen Gesmacher.

Anne's survivors include her husband, Ben Williamson, of Jefferson; two daughters, Merideth DeMaris and her husband, Rob, of Rockford, and Jennifer Williamson of Mason City; her mother, Jane Fuller, of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Noel, Nicole, Kailey, Kai and Abigail. Also surviving are two brothers, Jim Fuller and his wife, Karole, of Iowa City, and Charles Fuller and his wife, Ellen, of Burlington, and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

CLEAR LAKE - Alan Jay Dvorak, 56, died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Alan Jay Dvorak was born on July 16, 1945, in Storm Lake, the son of Theodore and Elsie (Sumner) Dvorak. He attended and received his education in the Sioux Center school system. During his life, Alan worked at a meat packing plant in Nebraska, until moving to Clear Lake, working for the Mason City Brick and Tile Co., and Andersen Co. in Clear Lake. For the last 16 years, until the time of his death, he worked construction for the Dean Snyder Construction Co. in Clear Lake. Alan also loved to farm.

Alan enjoyed collecting HO model trains, toy tractors, and old cars. He also enjoyed participating in the Clear Lake Fourth of July parade with his Model A car.

He was a member of the two-cylinder club in Grundy Center, and the International Harvester Collectors Club.

Left to cherish his memory are his uncle, cousins in Iowa and Nebraska and his many friends.

CLEAR LAKE - Alice Esk, 93, died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Alice Esk was born Sept. 25, 1908, the daughter of Berend and Gazena (Arenholz) Vierkant, in Franklin County, near Thornton. She attended and received her education in the Windsor District No. 2 School system. After completing her schooling, she helped care for families in the Thornton and Meservey area.

Alice was united in marriage to Luke Esk on March 18, 1931, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1974. After their marriage, together they farmed in the Thornton and Belmond area before moving to Clear Lake in 1961.

During her life, Alice worked at Ritter's Nursing Home, Clear Lake, the Hanford Hotel and the Holiday Inn, Mason City; she also worked in the kitchens in the Lake Café, the Coffee Shop, and Fatlands Bakery, in Clear Lake, and also provided child day care in her home.

Her hobbies included reading and doing word puzzles.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, former member of Immanuel Reform Church, near Belmond, and the Meservey Reform Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Lois Hammond, Clear Lake, and Edward Esk, Denton, Texas; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Vierkant and his wife, Marie, Jacksonville, Texas, and Henry Vierkant and his wife, Elizabeth, Mason City; two sisters-in-law, Grace and Beulah Esk of Belmond; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her parents; one great grandson, Matthew Sather; two sisters, Rosie Christiansen and Grace Harms; and three brothers, Edward, Herman and George Vierkant.

Charles was a caring, compassionate person. He spent the past several years caring for his ailing parents. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Vikings, and spending time with his friends, nephews and nieces. Charlie appreciated nature and the things it offered. He loved to embark on adventures through the rural areas to watch the changes in the crops and watch the wildlife. Charlie has always had a love for Trans Ams, especially black; it wasn't long ago that he decided to purchase one for himself. That was his pride and joy.

Dorothy E. Gram, the daughter of Clarence and Eva (Steffens) Lindsey, was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Rowan. She grew up in Rowan, where she attended school and graduated in 1944 from Rowan High School.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Gram on Feb. 19, 1947, in Rowan. They made their home in the Rowan and Belmond area, where they raised their family. She worked as a housewife and mother. Dorothy also worked as a librarian at the Belmond Public Library for 20 years.

Dorothy belonged to United Methodist Church in Belmond, where she was active in the ladies groups. She also belonged to the P.E.O., Progressive Club, United Methodist Women, Regional Library Board and Board Foundation.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert, of Belmond; three daughters, Elaine Burton and her husband, Vern, of Lakota, Sally Gordon and her husband, Vern, of Belmond, and Paula Wilmarth and her husband, Lee, of Decorah; two brothers, Merle Lindsey and his wife, Ruth, of Eldora, and Garth Lindsey and his wife, Margaret, of Steamboat Rock; six grandchildren, Angela Pacha and her husband, Seth, Adam and Aimee Gordon and Elizabeth, Melissa and Kevin Wilmarth; and numerous other family and friends.

ELSIE B. OLSON

FOREST CITY - Elsie B. Olson, 88, formerly of Forest City, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at her daughter's home in Emigrant, Mont.

Elsie was born Jan. 30, 1913, in rural Winnebago County, as the youngest of five children of Joe and Mary (Segerstrom) Lewis. Elsie was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Forest City. She accepted the Lord as her savior in the fall of 1924, and followed the Lord in Baptism on New Year's Eve that same year.

After graduating from Forest City High School, she attended Waldorf College from 1930-1932, where she sang mezzo-soprano in the choir and was a soloist under the direction of Odvin Hagen. After college graduation, Elsie taught all eight grades at Paulson Elementary, a one-room country schoolhouse, for three years. In 1935, Elsie was married to Lloyd M. Olson. They have two daughters, Mary Ellen and Jonelle.

In 1940, Lloyd and Elsie purchased the Olson Furniture Store, and in 1956 they purchased the Olson Funeral Home. Elsie helped with the bookkeeping for both businesses and was a hostess in the funeral home. They were retired from both businesses by 1972 and spent their winters in California and summers in Iowa for the next 20 years. Their many cross-country trips allowed them to be special grandparents to Mark and Heidi Johnstad in Montana, and Dustin and Shelly Stevens in California.

Elsie was devoted to her family and her church. In her more active years, she taught Sunday school, served in Women's Mission Circle, sang in the choir, and sang many solos and duets. In her less active years as asthma damaged her lungs, she was still our prayer warrior.

Early Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2001, Elsie passed away in her sleep in Emigrant, Mont., at the home of Ron and Mary Ellen Johnstad, with whom she had been living for the past three and one half years. She was 88 years old. She is now singing and breathing in heaven with a new set of lungs. Her welcoming party includes her husband of 57 years, Lloyd; her parents; her three older brothers and their wives, Lyle, Russell and Forest Lewis; nieces JoAnn (Lewis) Moberg, and Janice (Swanson) Gutierrez; plus many more Saints of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Luella Swanson; her daughters and their husbands, Mary Ellen and Rev. Dr. Ron Johnstad, Emigrant, Mont., Jonelle and Rev. Dan Stevens, Ventura, Calif.; her grandchildren, Mark Johnstad, married to Megan Parker, Missoula, Mont., Heidi (Johnstad), married to Mark Kraakevik, Apple Valley, Minn., Dustin Stevens, Venice, Calif., and Shelly Stevens, Minneapolis; and two great grandchildren, Annika and Britta Kraakevik.

He had moved to Sonora at the end of August, and was working for the Union Democrat newspaper. Before moving to California, he had been at newspapers in Leesburg, Fla., and Jefferson City, Mo. He started his newspaper career while in high school at the Globe Gazette in Mason City.

Brian is survived by his mother, Janice Taylor, of Kensett; his sister, Deb (Taylor) Billings and her husband, Larry, and their son, Blake Adam, of Clear Lake; his brother, Scott Taylor, of Kensett; a special aunt, Marilyn Smith, of Kensett; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his ex-wife, Diane Taylor, of Le Grand, and her children, Sarah, Jason and Michael, and Sarah's son, Jonathan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Taylor Jr., on March 20, 1974; his nephew, Ryan Charles Billings, on April 23, 2000; his maternal grandmother, Rosella Barber; his paternal grandparents, Charles Taylor Sr. and Clara Taylor; and his very special cousin, Terry Smith.

MASON CITY - Keith L. Haight, 78, of 33 26th St. S.W., died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

There will be no visitation, as his wish was to be cremated.

Keith L. Haight was born April 2, 1923, in Mason City, the son of Elgar Z. and Vivian (Baker) Haight. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1941. He married Marguerite VerHelst on Feb. 11, 1948, in Mason City.

Keith worked for the American Crystal Sugar Co. for thirteen years and farmed in the area for some 45 years. He helped build the Alcan Highway before entering the service. He served in the U. S. Army from June 1943 to November 1945.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Pleasant Ridge Club and he was a 4-H leader. Also a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., P.O.W. (Germany), D.A.V., and he was a driver for the D.A.V. transportation van. He also delivered meals on wheels as a volunteer.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite L. (Sis) Haight of Mason City; daughter, Julie Haight Curran and husband Tom of Minneapolis, Minn.; son, Alan Haight and wife Cathy Peterson of Mason City, and Balkuu (Barney) Kumangai, Palau, Micronesia; grand-daughter, Katie Curran Lavendoski and husband John of Austin, Texas; sisters, Charleen B. Sivwright of Rockwell and Shirley Dean and husband Richard of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Nancy in infancy, and a sister, Amy Poppen.

Suzanne Jo Ziegler, daughter of Cyril (Babe) and Eleanor Ziegler Tracy, was born on Jan. 4, 1942, at Mason City. She attended St. Ansgar schools. At the time of her death she was employed at Wallace Computer Service in Osage.

Sue was united in marriage to Clifford Powers on Nov. 28, 1959, at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church. They became parents to four sons, Eric, Greg, Troy, and Mike.

She was an avid sports fan. She especially loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports as well as watching the Hawkeyes, Twins, and Vikings. Her weekends were often spent playing Bingo with her mother.

Sue was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother of thirteen grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family.

WILLIAM LEE HEGINGER

KLEMME - William (Bill) Lee Heginger, 59, died unexpectedly Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Tenold Funeral Home, 528 E. Main St., Klemme, with the Rev. Paddy Druhl of the Klemme United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be held from noon on Tuesday until time of service.

William was born Oct. 12, 1942, in Klemme, the son of Carl John and Etta Harms Heginger. He attended Klemme schools. He was united in marriage to Jeannie Cooper at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

For most of his life he was employed as a welder. He had worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Butter-Topp Bakery in Clear Lake, and for Kiefer Built in Kanawha.

Bill enjoyed fishing, watching old movies, watching TV, welding and cutting up old vehicles and metal works.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Jean; sons, Wayne Heginger of Algona, and Rodney Heginger of Lina Lakes, Minn., Todd and his wife, Rachel Heginger of Garner, Greg Heginger of Anamosa, William Crieger of Oronoco, Minn., and Ted Heginger of Minto, N.D.; daughter, Tammy and husband Terry Whitehurst. Jr. of Mason City; seventeen grandchildren; five brothers, Carl and his wife Darlene of Klemme, LuVerne and his wife Shirley of Lakota, Lyle and his wife Susan of Belmond, Tony and his wife Liz , and Rick and his wife Yana, both of Klemme; three sisters, Edna and her husband John VanGerpen of Marion, Sharon and her husband Ecko Reysack of Klemme, and Zelda and her husband Jerry Scott of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and plenty of friends.

IONIA - Shirley (Mrs. Donald) Monaghan, 73, of 1460 Cheyenne Ave., Ionia, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Shirley Ann Muetz Monaghan was born Sept. 18, 1928, at Colwell, the daughter of William and Helen (Quirk) Muetz. She received her education from the Colwell and Immaculate Conception schools.

On Oct. 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald Monaghan at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Shirley and Don farmed in the Deerfield area.

Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, helping Don on the farm, cooking, entertaining family and friends, and playing cards.

Living family members include her husband, Donald of Ionia; two sons and their wives, Gary and Cheri Monaghan of Reinbeck, and Ron and Debbie Monaghan of Mason City; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

JEROME 'JERRY' FAYETTE HALL

SHEFFIELD - Jerome "Jerry" Fayette Hall, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at his home in rural Sheffield.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield, with the Rev. Kent Mechler officiating.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.

Jerry Hall was born July 2, 1931, in Woolstock, the son of Charles Leo and Hilda Luella (Shaw) Hall. He began country school at Woolstock and when he was eight years old, his family moved to Meservey where he attended and graduated from Meservey High School in 1950.


Jerry entered the Army in 1952 and served in Korea during the Korean War. He returned to Iowa and farmed with his father at Meservey.

Jerry was united in marriage to Jeanette Johnson on June 24, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in rural Sheffield.

Jerry attended the Reisch College of Auctioneering. He worked as an auctioneer, raised purebred Hereford Cattle and purebred Hampshire Sheep. He also sheared sheep in the area for many years.


Jerry was a member of Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield and served on the church council. He was a member of the Franklin County Cattlemen's Association and was a 4-H leader.

Jerry enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends and working with his cattle.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Hall, of Sheffield; daughter, Joan (Dennis) Worden, of Oelwein and their children, Noah, Jonna, Jacob and Logan; daughter, Sue (Tim) Collins, of Sheffield and their children, Elizabeth, Erin, Abby and Sam; son, Todd (Lorri) Hall, of Sheffield and their son, Cole; sister, Wyona (Faye) Denger, of Clarion; brother, Charles (Liz) Hall, of Des Moines; sister, Constance Binder, of Spencer; brother-in-law, Ed Duregger; and a host of treasured friends.

BELMOND - Joe F. Williamson, 55, of Belmond, passed away Sunday (Oct. 28, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Joe F. Williamson will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.

Joe F. Williamson, the son of Edward and Victoria Childers was born July 25, 1946, in Etheridge, Tenn. He grew up in Alabama and Michigan and graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1964.

Joe was united in marriage to Jackie Drake on Sept. 18, 1965, at Battle Creek, Mich. They made their home in Battle Creek until 1984 when they moved to Belmond.

Joe started working at Eatons in 1964. He moved to Belmond in 1984 where he continued to work for Eatons as a raw materials coordinator and material scheduler. Joe would have completed 37 years with the company on October 19, 2001.


Joe loved his grandkids and was most proud to become "Grampa". He enjoyed hunting, playing softball and bowling.

Joe also belonged to the Rowan Lions Club and the Belmond Country Club.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jackie, of Belmond; one daughter, Stacy Rooney and her husband, Dave, of Urbana; one son, Jeff Williamson and his wife, Jessica, of Belmond; one half- brother, Jim Ford, of Homestead, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

THORNTON - Adam E. Bartelt, 20, of 208 N. Second St. died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at his home.

Adam was born Nov. 8, 1980 in Mason City the son of Rick E. and Barb (Eckhardt) Bartelt. He attended Sheffield-Chapin
Meservey-Thornton High School graduating in 1999.

While in school Adam participated in football and track. During his senior year he ran in the Iowa State High School Track Meet. After graduating he moved to Thornton to live with his mother.

He was employed by Roger Lerdal's Roofing and Construction where he worked two years.


Adam loved listening to music, playing Nintendo and spending time with his friends. He also enjoyed playing chess, drawing freehand and spending time with his nephew.

KEITH L. HAIGHT

MASON CITY - Keith L. Haight, 78, of 33 26th St. S.W., died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia in Mason City, with the Rev. Douglas Anderson officiating.

There will be no visitation, as his wish was to be cremated.

Keith L. Haight was born April 2, 1923, in Mason City, the son of Elgar Z. and Vivian (Baker) Haight. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1941. He married Marguerite VerHelst on Feb. 11, 1948, in Mason City.


Keith worked for the American Crystal Sugar Co. for thirteen years and farmed in the area for some 45 years. He helped build the Alcan Highway before entering the service. He served in the U. S. Army from June 1943 to November 1945.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Pleasant Ridge Club and he was a 4-H leader. Also a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., P.O.W. (Germany), D.A.V., and he was a driver for the D.A.V. transportation van. He also delivered meals on wheels as a volunteer.


He is survived by his wife, Marguerite L. (Sis) Haight of Mason City; daughter, Julie Haight Curran and husband Tom of Minneapolis, Minn.; son, Alan Haight and wife Cathy Peterson of Mason City, and Balkuu (Barney) Kumangai, Palau, Micronesia; grand-daughter, Katie Curran Lavendoski and husband John of Austin, Texas; sisters, Charleen B. Sivwright of Rockwell and Shirley Dean and husband Richard of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Nancy in infancy, and a sister, Amy Poppen.

CLEAR LAKE - Edith Viola Carlsen, 87, 201 S. Fourth St., died Sunday (Oct. 28, 2001) at her home.

Edith was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Svendborg, Fyn, Denmark, one of 10 children of Albert Edvard and Marie F. (Madsen) Nielsen.

Edith was united in marriage to Holger Carlsen and they moved with their daughter to the United States in June of 1950 and settled in Latimer, in August of 1950. They moved to Clear Lake in 1951, to Hampton in 1952 and then back to Clear Lake in 1968.

Edith was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and a church circle in Clear Lake.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Hanne Dvorak and her husband, Milo, of Marshalltown; three grandchildren, Harley Hembd and his wife, DeAnna, of Glendale, Ariz., Mariann McDonald of Des Moines, and Diana Stowe and her husband, David, of Eldora; and four great-grandchildren.

BUFORD 'CHRIS' L. CHRISTENSEN

MASON CITY - Buford "Chris" L. Christensen, 70, of 170 Parkridge Drive, died Sunday (Oct. 28, 2001) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, where he had resided for just a few days.

His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave. with the Rev. Christian Gugel, of Trinity Lutheran Church of Osage, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. and also for one hour at the church prior to the service.


The family requests memorials be given to the Alzheimer's Association.

Chris was born Nov. 25, 1930, the son of Marius and Karen "Carrie" (Jensen) Christensen at his home in Thornton. He enjoyed high school basketball and graduated from Sheffield High School.

He joined the U.S. Army in January 1951, and was stationed at Camp McCoy, Sparta, Wis. On March 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Violet Mae Shepherd at the home of the groom's parents in Sheffield.


The couple moved to Wisconsin until Chris was sent to Germany to serve in the Korean War. Once discharged, the couple made their home in Mason City. where he and his wife had four children, Connie, Bruce, David, and Pam.

Chris spent 13 years as a supervisor for State Brand Creamery and 25 years at Libbey Owens Ford Glass Co. as plant coordinator, safety director, and personnel director. He retired from L-O-F in November 1991.

Once retired, Chris and his wife moved to Lake Havasu City, Ariz. where they lived until September of 1999, when they returned to Mason City because of his failing health.


While in Arizona, he was cheerfully involved with his church on the board of trustees, stewardship board, usher, delegate to the ELS Convention, and helping anywhere he was needed.

Chris spent many of his best times with his children and grandchildren going to their activities.

He looked forward to weekends with his family at the Mississippi River where they went boating and fishing. He also enjoyed seasonal hunting with his sons and friends. He loved the day he became a great grandfather to Kiley Jo.

He also was proud to volunteer at the American Red Cross as a CPR instructor and was an instructor for gun safety at the North Iowa Rod and Gun Club.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Violet; his children, Connie Pederson, of Mason City, Bruce Christensen, of Rockwell, David Christensen and his wife, Kris, of Mason City, and Pam Christensen of Osage; six grandchildren, Cassie, B.J., Chrissy, and Sam Pederson, and Jamie and Matt Christensen; one great-granddaughter, Kiley Jo Pederson; a brother, Dick Christensen, of Rockwell; a sister, Beatrice Kramer, of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

KENSETT - Brian Charles Taylor, 34, of Sonora, Calif., formerly of Kensett, died Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2001) at his home in Sonora.

Brian was born in Mason City on July 26, 1967, the son of Charles H. (Chuck) and Janice Taylor. Brian grew up in Kensett and graduated in 1986 from Northwood-Kensett High School. He had moved to Sonora at the end of August, and was working for the Union Democrat newspaper. Before moving to California, he had been at newspapers in Leesburg, Fla., and Jefferson City, Mo. He started his newspaper career while in high school at the Globe Gazette in Mason City.

Brian is survived by his mother, Janice Taylor, of Kensett; his sister, Deb (Taylor) Billings and her husband, Larry, and their son, Blake Adam, of Clear Lake; his brother, Scott Taylor, of Kensett; a special aunt, Marilyn Smith, of Kensett; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his ex-wife, Diane Taylor, of Le Grand, and her children, Sarah, Jason and Michael, and Sarah's son, Jonathan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Taylor Jr., on March 20, 1974; his nephew, Ryan Charles Billings, on April 23, 2000; his maternal grandmother, Rosella Barber; his paternal grandparents, Charles Taylor Sr. and Clara Taylor; and his very special cousin, Terry Smith.

GLEN L. HAMBLY

MASON CITY - Glen L. Hambly, 85 of 15250 300th St., died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. David A. Anderson, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, where full military honors will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Glen was born June 20, 1916 at Adams, Minn. a son of James and Nora (Whitmore) Hambly. He attended rural Northwood area schools until 1932.

He worked as a general farm hand that operated a wheel tractor and team of eight horses on a 200-acre farm. He also repaired harnesses and for two years was a qualified teamster.

Glen enlisted in the U.S. Army in October of 1942. He served as corporal in the military police, stationed in Panama during WWII. He was honorably discharged in November 1945.

He married Lola Marie Knapp on April 12, 1947 at Northwood. Glen enjoyed most of his adult life in the salvage business, starting in Mason City, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and for the last 40 years he operated Rockwell Auto Parts.

He was well known in the area as a creature of habit and really enjoyed the fact that he could go into a variety of restaurants and order "the usual" and always get what he wanted.

His work was his life, his hobby, and his interest so much that he'd talk cars all day and night. He worked at the yard every day except Sunday, until his 85th year. He enjoyed the occasional casino trip, a good 15-cent card game, but the conversation always turned to "the fancy car" that came in that day.

Glen is survived by, a daughter, Linda and her husband, Jack, King, of Marshalltown; a son, Morris Hambly and his wife, Barb, of Dumont; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Linda Saken.

He was preceded in death by, his parents; his wife Lola, in May of 1996; one brother, and one sister.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Donna K. Worley Memorial Fund.

Donna K. Worley was born Sept. 7, 1934 in Mason City, the daughter of Donald C. and G. Katherine (James) Shields Sr. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in l952 and attended and graduated from Mason City Junior College, (now NIACC) with an elementary education degree.

She taught in Thompson, Hanlontown and Plymouth and spent the summers continuing her education at Drake. She then taught in Mason City at Harding and Madison schools retiring after 37 years of teaching.

She continued her love of children after her retirement.

Donna married Harold L. Worley on Dec. 27, 1955 in Rockwell.

Donna was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Naomi Circle. She enjoyed helping in her church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold L. Worley, of Mason City; daughter, Sally Heuberger and her husband, John, of Sheffield; son-in-law, Scott Montgomery, of St. Marys,; grandchildren, Ryan and Shannon Montgomery, of St. Marys, and Katie and Josh Heuberger, of Sheffield; sister, Julie "Judy" Emhoff and husband, Keith, of Sheffield; brother, Donald C. Shields Jr. and wife, Catherine, of De Kalb, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Vicki Montgomery on Feb. 15, 1998.

WILFER A. ANDERSON

FOREST CITY - Wilfer A. Anderson, 85, of Forest City, died Monday (Oct. 29, 2001) his home in Forest City.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with the Rev. Lee Laaveg and the Rev. Tom Jolivette officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City.

Wilfer Adolf Anderson was born at home on Nov. 5, 1915, in Silver Lake Township in Worth County, to Albert and Mattie (Everson) Anderson. He had two sisters. Alfreida died as a child. Alfreda (Anderson) Brua has been his lifelong friend as well as younger sister.

Wilfer was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. He remembered riding to Sunday School in Solomonson's surrey with the fringe on top. Elementary school was country school one and a half miles from his home.

High school was in Leland where he was class president his senior year of 1935. His friends called him "Bill" and continued to do so. He loved playing baseball and basketball. His basketball team began the sport at their school.

He married Blanch Amundson on March 5, 1942 at Beaver Creek Church near Joice. They had four daughters he called his four "queens," Vicki Lynette, Merdys Lorae, Judy Lenore and Laurie Lynne.

Wilfer farmed and had carpentry jobs. In 1961 the family moved to Forest City and he began working at Forrester Trailers. Soon after he began what was to be a 17-year career in the maintenance department at Waldorf College.

He later worked at Southtown Lumber and delivered motor homes for Winnebago. In December of 1964 Blanch died suddenly.

Wilfer was blessed to meet Lois (Lunn) Porter whom he married on June 5, 1966. He then acquired sons, Doug and Jeff and daughter, Janelle.

Wilfer was active in the Neighborhood Food Bank in Forest City, as well as Scouting. He had a passion for gardening and loved fishing with his family.

Wilfer is survived by his wife, Lois, of Forest City; seven children, Vicki Todd and husband, Warren, of Erial, N.J, and their daughter, Kristin Burton and her husband, Kyle; Merdys Ingvoldstad and husband, Paul, of Tucson, Ariz., and their sons, Bjorn and wife, Loreta and Nils; Judy Johnston and husband John, of Waverly, and their children, Erika and husband, Andy, Ryan, Dane and Leif; Laurie Wittmayer and husband, Rae, of Washington, and their son, Daniel, and fiancee, Kelly; Doug Porter, of Iowa Falls; Jeff Porter and wife, Mavis, of Forest Lake, Minn., and their sons, Jason, Joshua and James; and Janelle Porter, of Columbia Heights, Minn., and her son, Andrew. Also surviving is a sister, Alfreda Brua and her husband, Ardell, of Lake Mills.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Alberta (Loberg) Anderson, and Ole and Ana (Sandvick) Everson; his parents, Albert and Mattie Anderson; his wife, Blanch Severna Amundson Anderson; a sister, Alfreida (First); and a grandson, David Wittmayer.
