LUTHER GEORGE FOLLMUTH

MASON CITY - Luther George Follmuth, 75, of 130 23rd Street S.W., died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

His funeral will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be held at 12:45 p.m. the same day at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E., Mason City, and also for one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church or the Arthritis Foundation - Iowa Chapter, 2600 - 72nd Street, Suite D, Des Moines, 50322.

Luther was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Orchard, the son of George and Maud (Tollesfrud) Follmuth. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army in Germany from November 1944 until August 1946, during World War II.

Luther was united in marriage to Donna D. Ruckdashel on Jan. 11, 1947, in Mason City. He began working for Peoples Gas and Electric in January 1949, which later became Interstate Power Co. in 1957. In 1952, Luther became an apprentice lineman and then a line foreman in 1965. He transferred to the Nora Springs area in 1970 and retired in 1986 after more than 37 years of service. Luther was known as "Lute" by his friends and as "Lum" by his co-workers. He and Donna moved back to Mason City in 1988, and in 1997 celebrated their 50th anniversary. Luther enjoyed woodworking and carpentry work and built three additions on to their home. The family enjoyed camping together, where Luther stayed at camp to cook while everyone else went for hikes. He loved traveling by car, especially to Colorado, Kentucky, the Black Hills and Montana. During retirement, Luther also became the family bookkeeper, with his calculator nearby in case ideas or figures came to mind. He was a life-long member of the Mason City VFW Post #733 and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Luther will be greatly missed by his wife, Donna Follmuth, of Mason City; one son, Ervin Follmuth and his wife, Christine, of Mason City; two daughters, Marilyn Loden and her husband, Dean, of Osage and Margaret Hunn and her husband, Arthur, of Rock Hill, Mo.; five grandchildren, Annie Pfullmann and her husband, Robert, Joshua Hunn, Jon Hunn, Sam Hunn and his wife, Jenna, and Andrew Hunn; one great-grandchild, Skylar; one sister, Gloria Platt of Ashland, Ky.; 26 nieces and nephews; 39 great-nieces and nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eugene Follmuth; two brothers, Roger P. and Duane Follmuth; and two sisters, Carol Hendrickson and Crystal Lichman.

MRS. ZORA (ELDON) PIEPER

CHARLES CITY - Mrs. Zora (Eldon) Pieper, 89, a former resident of 910 13th St., Charles City, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

A funeral mass for Zora Pieper will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Stanley Hayek will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The St. Anthony Circle will recite the rosary at 3 p.m. and there will be a vigil scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday one hour before the mass.

Zora Alice Keefer Pieper was born July 28, 1912, at Vinton, the daughter of John and Cynthia (Stewart) Keefer. She graduated from the Vinton High School.

On Oct. 3, 1936, she was united in marriage to Eldon Pieper at Vinton. Eldon died on Feb. 2, 1965. Zora and Eldon moved to Charles City in 1936, where he was an engineer at the Oliver Corporation. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Anthony Circle, and had served as the PTA president at the Immaculate Conception School. As an avid golfer she was a member of the Wildwood Golf Club and had been the club's champion for three years. Zora enjoyed being with her family and also playing bridge.

Living family members include three sons and their wives, Greg and Rosie and Bob and Toni, all of Charles City, and Jim and Jackie, of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Keefer, of Mathis, Texas.

Her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.

ALGONA - Robert E. Casey, 96, of Algona, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at the Algona Manor Care Center.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Presbyterian Church, Irvington, with the Rev. Dave Ullom officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.

ALTA VISTA - Marjorie I. Meirick, 66, of Alta Vista, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at her home of natural causes.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Alta Vista, with the Rev. John Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Alta Vista.

CRYSTAL LAKE - Mildred A. Fredrickson, 81, of Crystal Lake, died Friday (October 19, 2001) at the Texas Terrace Care Center, St. Louis Park, Minn.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Robert Snitzer officiating. Interment will be in Bingham Township Cemetery, south of Woden.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt, and one hour before services at the church.

ERMA FAYE KUNTZ SEVERSON

CLEAR LAKE - Erma Faye Kuntz Severson, 85, of Clear Lake, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and then beginning Monday at noon at the church.

Erma was born Sept. 25, 1916, in Kahoka, Mo., the daughter of William E. and Lillian (Clark) Kuntz. She graduated from Kahoka High School and then attended Culver Stockton College, Canton, Mo., for two years. She later graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport, with a bachelor of arts degree in education. She also attended American School of Business. She worked for Davenport Bank and Trust and the Rock Island Arsenal until 1942.

Erma married Mars I. Severson Sept. 11, 1942, at the Navy Pier, Chicago. They lived in Norfolk, Va., where he was stationed during WWII, after which they moved to Davenport. After her three daughters were of school age she taught elementary school for 30 years. Of those, 28 were in the Davenport Public Schools. She was the first teacher to teach a blind child in a mainstream classroom in the state of Iowa. After her husband's death in 1981, she moved to Clear Lake in 1982.

Erma enjoyed being with her family, cooking, picnicking, gardening, sewing, fishing and playing cards. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, P.E.O., Crescent Club and a Life member of National Education Association.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a dedicated teacher, a loyal friend, an excellent role model, and a very good person who was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Erma is survived by three daughters, Mary Moeller, Clear Lake, Linda Iossi and her husband, Franklin, Rochester, Minn., and Maris Burton and her husband, Robert, Edina, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Wood and her husband, Steve, Mark Moeller, Michael Moeller, Michael Iossi, Katie Iossi, Robert Burton, William Burton, Thomas Burton and David Burton; and one great granddaughter, Whitney Grace Wood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mars; son-in-law, Dr. Steven Moeller; sister, Irene Riewerts; and three brothers Stanley, Carl and Leland Kuntz.

RONALD D. 'BIG RON' BELLINGHAUSEN

MASON CITY - Ronald D. "Big Ron" Bellinghausen Sr., 58, of 23674 B. Thrush Ave., Mason City, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at his home.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. David Kucera officating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a scriptural wake service at 6 p.m.

Ronald D. "Big Ron" Bellinghausen Sr., was born Aug. 21, 1943, in Carroll, the son of Frank and Mary (Schepner) Bellinghausen. His family grew up on a farm in Maple River, where he attended schools.

He was united in marriage to Polly Moore on Dec. 20, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio. They later moved to Eldora, where he and his brother, Marv, began Harden Builders Construction Co. He co-owned and operated the business for 25 years. In 1982 he and Polly moved to Mason City, where he opened Ron's Pawn Shop with his partner, Ron Wenthe. He worked there until his health recently forced him to retire.

He was an active member of the Jaycees, a lifetime member of NRA, and a board member of a local Midwest gun collectors association. He was a very active person who enjoyed everything life had to offer. His hobbies include fishing and turkey hunting, traveling, attending gun shows and flea markets, playing cards, going to casinos, remodeling and participating in demolition derbies. He will be remembered by many as an avid George Jones fan. Above all he cherished the time he spent with family and friends, including his granddaughter, Lexxis. Lexxis was a special partner he could count on to go to flea markets with, and he knew she was always willing to help him at the shop in the summer months.

His memory will be cherished by all who knew him including, his wife, Polly Bellinghausen, of Mason City; children, Lori Timson and husband, Thomas, of Cape Coral, Fla., Ron D. Bellinghausen Jr. and special friend, BeLinda Jones, of Mason City, Penny Hammer and husband, Scott, of Union, Fawn Bellinghausen and special friend, Chad Berding, of Plymouth and Kandi Bellinghausen, of Mason City; siblings, Alvin Bellinghausen and wife, Dorothy, of Maple River, Alvina Beyer and husband, Raymond, of Cedar Falls, Mary Marvin Bellinghausen, of Carroll, Cindy Irlbeck, of Carroll, Jeanette Brown and husband, Donald, of Carroll, Marlene Nelson and husband, Edward, of Spirit Lake, Mary Bowlan, of Carroll, Angel and Bob Henkenius, of Carroll, Marvin Bellinghausen, of Gravis Mills, Mo., and Wayne Bellinghausen and wife, Sharon, of Carroll; mother, Mary Bellinghausen, of Carroll; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews

DONALD J. "DON" RIPPENTROP

MASON CITY - Donald J. "Don" Rippentrop, 81 of 722 S. Indiana, Mason City, died Thursday morning, (Oct. 18, 2001), at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania, Mason City. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Poland. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, and again one hour before services at the Church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Don was born on July 18, 1920, at Titonka, one of two children to John G. and Anna (Kuchenreuther) Rippentrop. As a young family they moved to the Thompson area. He graduated from the Thompson High School in 1937 and then joined his father in the farming operation. There he met the woman of his dreams, Josephine (Jo) Wessels, living right down the road. They were united in marriage on his 21st birthday on July 18, 1941, at Elmore, Minn. To this union was born five children. They continued farming until moving to Mason City in 1959. He was employed at Northwestern Portland Cement Co.

Later he was pulled by his love of automobiles into the auto service manager field in Mason City. Later, they moved to Dundas, Minn., where he worked for Chrysler Village as the service manager in nearby Northfield. He retired in 1982 and returned to Mason City. Don was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He along with his wife of 60 years enjoyed their grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, trying to catch anything that swam. He was a good hunter, providing geese, ducks, pheasants, rabbits and squirrels for his family. He also enjoyed camping.

Those who are thankful for sharing Don's life include his wife, Josephine, Mason City; two daughters, Jean and her husband, Ronald LaCoste, Rockford and JoAnn and her husband, Larry Mozack, Mason City; three sons, Ronald and his wife, Linda Rippentrop, Robert and his wife, Bev Rippentrop, all of Mason City, and Rodney and his wife, Kathy Rippentrop, Apple Valley, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jan Oliver, Mason City; one aunt, Veda Kuchenreuther, Algona; numerous nieces and nephews, including his blood niece Linda and her husband, Ron Lee, Titonka; and several cousins.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; one great granddaughter, Erica Huebner; and one sister, Delores and her husband, Bill Rode.

MASON CITY - Lester Person, 81, of 319 S. Rhode Island, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church, Humboldt. His body was donated to the University of Iowa's College of Medicine.

There will be a gathering of friends and family from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

MILDRED A. FREDRICKSON

CRYSTAL LAKE - Mildred A. Fredrickson, 81,of Crystal Lake, died Friday (October 19, 2001) at the Texas Terrace Care Center, St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Mildred A. Fredrickson, the daughter of Joseph A. and Charlotte (Meyer) Kramer, was born Sept. 16, 1920 at Lotts Creek, Iowa. She grew up in Titonka and in 1928, moved with her family to Woden where she graduated from high school in 1938. For several years Mildred worked at the First State Bank in Woden.

On Feb. 7, 1942, she was married to Howard M. Fredrickson at Blue Earth, Minn. In August of 1958, they moved to Crystal Lake where they owned and operated the Standard station until 1977. In September of 1989, she moved to St. Louis Park, Minn. to be near her family.

Mildred was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years between the Woden and Crystal Lake units.

She is survived by her son, Brad Fredrickson and his wife, Linda, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; two grandchildren, Brian Fredrickson and Julie Hauser and her husband, Tedd; great-grandchildren, T.J., Haylee and Ashley; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, Nov. 6, 1986; parents, Joseph and Charlotte Kramer; brother, Ernest Kramer; and sisters, Clara Volding, Louise Thompson and Augusta Grubb.

RICHARD H. VICKERS

GREENE - Richard H. Vickers, 83, of Greene, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greene with the Rev. Walter Brunkan officiating.

Richard Harold Vickers was born on Oct. 24, 1917, in Hanson County, South Dakota. He was the son of Richard Samuel Vickers and Hansena (Wendelboe) Vickers. He grew up on the family farm near Ethan, South Dakota.

In 1941, he was married to Alice Jeanette Ryan. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country in the European Theater. When he returned from the war, he worked for Ryan Construction Company, which was based in Omaha, Nebraska. He and his wife and their young children traveled throughout the United States as he worked building grain elevators.

In 1953 Richard moved his family to Mason City, where he accepted a position as superintendent at Allied Mills. He continued employment at Allied Mills until his retirement in 1982. During that time, he raised six children in the St. Joseph's neighborhood of southeast Mason City. In 1984 Richard and Alice moved to Greene, where they spent their remaining years.

Richard loved farming. He was very proud of the work he did for Allied Mills. He was blessed with many kind friends from the Mason City and Greene communities. He was very thankful for the spiritual support he received as a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene.

He is survived by his children, Margaret Vickers of Des Moines, Richard W. Vickers and his wife, Mary Ann, of Greene, Michael Vickers and his wife, Joyce, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Patrick Vickers and his wife, Gaylene, of Greene, Mary Alice Perkins and her husband, Larry, of Prairie City and Karen McMillan and her husband, Michael, of Omaha, Neb.; eleven grandchildren; and one sibling, Georgia Metzger, of Saverna Park, Maryland.

His wife, Alice, and five siblings preceded him in death.

LESTER PERSON

MASON CITY - Lester Person, 81, 319 S. Rhode Island, Mason City, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. His body has been donated to the University of Iowa's College of Medicine.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt.

There will be a gathering of friends and family from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation at 1660 Duke Street, Alexandria, Va. 22314 or the Lester Person Memorial Fund.

Lester Person was born May 8, 1920, on a farm near Otho, Iowa. His parents were Per Person and Myrtle (Rosenquist) Person. Les graduated from Gowrie High School in 1938.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in August of 1941 and was sent to Hawaii in April of 1942. One of his most vivid memories was seeing all the ships that had been sunk in the Pearl Harbor attack that were still there. Les served four years in the South Pacific on Hawaii, Baker, Tarawa, Eniwetok, and Guam Islands.

Les was united in marriage to Elaine (Lloyd) Person on March 30, 1947. He received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree from the University of Iowa in 1949.

Les and Elaine lived in Fort Dodge where he worked at several sales jobs. While living in Fort Dodge, Les belonged to the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the YMCA. He was an accredited baseball umpire and basketball referee.

He belonged to a Fort Dodge card club for more than 40 years, and he and Elaine enjoyed joining the club members and their wives for many trips and social activities.

He was an active member of the Fort Dodge First United Methodist Church. They later moved to Mason City in 1968 and in 1978 he purchased the Clear Lake KFC and in 1981 purchased Humboldt KFC. He was franchisee and, with Elaine, managed both restaurants until retirement in 1996.

Les lived in Humboldt from 1982 until 1994. While living in Humboldt Les was president of the Humboldt Lions, served as Diabetes Chairman for Lions District VII, and as Lions State Diabetes Chairman. He was a member of the state board of directors of the American Diabetes Association. In 1993 Les received the Lions International President's Service Award, and in 1997 he received the Warren Coleman Honorary Award for dedicated service in Lionism.

Les enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren. Les was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Les was proud of his Swedish heritage and was able to fulfill a lifetime dream when he and Elaine went to Sweden in 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; three children, Karen Person of Waverly, Dr. John Person and wife, Ellen, of San Diego, Calif., and James Person and wife, Becky, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Shawn, Sarah, Abigail, and Katelyn Person, of Clear Lake, and Jeffrey Person, of San Diego, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren, Jerome Farnham, of Dublin, Ireland, and Jarod Farnham, of Manhattan, Kan.; three brothers, Eugene Pierson and wife, Ann of Twin Lakes and Donna, Texas, Gaylen Person and wife, Jane, of Fort Dodge, and Vernon Person, of Dakota City; sister, Betty Larson and husband, Lester, of Badger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Dean.

MASON CITY - Janet A. Clark, 69, of 1507 Eighth St. S.W., died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Janet was born April 11, 1932, in Rake, the daughter of Justin and Anna (Olson) Jarshaw. She graduated from Forest City High School. She married Bernard J. Clark in 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last November. To this union were born four children, Gary, Mark, Julie and Kimberly.

Janet was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Last May she became a great grandmother to her pride and joy, Ethan.

Her greatest joy came from caring for her family and baking. Her recipes have been enjoyed and passed on to family and friends who have trouble duplicating her perfection in this area.

Janet was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

SCOTT CHRISTOPHER MEYER

OSAGE - Scott Christopher Meyer, 32, of the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz., and formerly of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at Saint Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nev., due to injuries sustained in a fall.

Scott was born Jan. 1, 1969, in Osage. He attended school in Osage and graduated from Osage High School in 1987. While in school, Scott enjoyed football, helping his Dad on the farm and spending time with his friends.

In September of 1987, he joined the United States Air Force. Technical Sergeant Scott Meyer was a Flight Line Crew Chief assigned to the 354th Fighter Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz. Scott enjoyed his Air Force work and all the friends he had made. Through the Air Force, he had seen and visited 22 countries in the World. Overseas he had been stationed in Turkey, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Japan.

His decorations included the following: Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force. Outstanding Unit Award (Three Devices), Air Force Good Conduct Medal (Three Devices), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (One Device), Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon (One Device), Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon (Two Devices), NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal.

His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery with military funeral honors conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Deborah Louise Foster was born Sept. 13, 1955, at Daytona Beach, Fla., a daughter of Arvil and Maude Lois (Benfield) Foster, and died Sunday, Oct. 21, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital of cancer.

She was a graduate of Freedom High School in Morganton, N.C. On June 7, 1974, she was united in marriage to Richard Lee Stock at Riverside Baptist Church in Morganton. Shortly thereafter they moved to Greene where they made their home.

Deb was employed at the Buy Low Self Serve in Greene for 12 years. She received training at NIACC as a certified nurses aid and was last employed by the Butler County Health Department.

Her interests included trout fishing and bowling, and she was an avid fan of the Hawkeyes, Vikings and Cubs.

Living family members include her husband, Richard of Greene; two sons, Richard (address unknown) and Tommy of Greene; one granddaughter, Tessa Stock of Rochester, Minn.; his mother, Lois Foster; two sisters, Diane and Anniece; four brothers, Paul, Jackie, Terry and Robert, all of Morganton, N.C.

Deb was preceded in death by her father and three siblings, Sherry and twins, Ricky and Vicky in infancy.

Treva Victoria Wagner Jones, daughter of Julius and Ella Willia Wagner was born June 1, 1908, in Booneville, N.C. She moved to Liscomb, in 1918 where she attended school. Treva graduated from the Albia High School. She would later move to Belmond in 1925.

Treva was united in marriage to Ralph Jones on Sept. 24, 1924, in Clarion. The couple lived in Algona for five years. Treva and Ralph then returned to Belmond where Treva worked at the Belmond Community Hospital as a cook. Treva and Ralph would later own and operate a gas station and café on Highway 69 in Belmond. Treva later worked for Lois Hammond for seven years. She then retired and move to the Rise Apartments.

Treva liked to play cards, go fishing with Ralph and paint pictures. She loved children very much and always had a piece candy in her pocket.

Treva belonged to the United Methodist Church in Belmond where she had been active in the women's groups.

Treva is survived by two sisters, Ruby Klinefelter, of Belmond, and Pat Blau and her husband, Marvin, of Latimer; one brother, Lloyd Wagner and wife, Leone, of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph in 1992; three brothers; and two sisters.

CORWITH - Rose Anna Unger, 85, died Sunday (Oct. 15, 2001) at Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Corwith, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Corwith.

Rose Anna Unger was born May 20, 1916, at Britt, to Anton and Christina Hejlik Stupka. At the age of three, Rose moved with her family to Wisconsin where she received her education. After her schooling, Rose did domestic work and was a babysitter for area families.

On July 2, 1942, Rose was married to Harry A Unger at Eagle Grove. The couple lived in Corwith where Harry farmed and Rose was a homemaker.

From 1950 until 1967, the Unger family lived in the Garner and Forest City area. In 1967 they moved to Holmes and lived there until 1976 when they returned to Corwith.

Rose was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith where she belonged to the Altar Society and the Guild. She also taught religious education. She and Harry were great supporters of all of the Corwith activities. Rose always had a smile on her face and open arms for a hug. She enjoyed writing letters, baking Bohemian goodies, visiting with her many friends and making new friends wherever she went.

Rose's husband, Harry, preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1987.

Rose moved to the Prairieview Apartments in Garner in 1991. She was active in the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. Rose became a resident of Westview Care Center in Britt on Oct. 15, 2001.

Rose is survived by her three daughters, Mary Rohrback and her husband, Gary, Goldfield, Iowa, Connie Nelson and her husband, Michael, Britt, and Judy Grandgenett and her husband, Daniel, Corwith; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Edward Stupka, Kanawha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; an infant daughter, Ann Marie; one brother, Frank Stupka; and two sisters-in-law, Fern and Rose Stupka.

GEORGE EARL JENISON

BELMOND - George Earl Jenison, 85, a lifelong resident of Belmond, most recently a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center, died Saturday (Oct. 20, 2001) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

George Jenison was born July 6, 1918, on his parents' farm, rural Belmond, in Pleasant Township, the son of Earl Joseph and Hazel (Sandberg) Jenison. He attended District Four Rural School and graduated from Belmond High School in 1934.

George served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He had been a gunner on a Black Widow aircraft. Mr. Jenison had been a lifelong employee of the United States Postal Service, commencing his career as an office worker, then serving for a time as a postmaster, and concluded his career as a rural Belmond carrier. In earlier years he had helped out on the family farm.

George married his first wife, Margaret Baxter, who preceded him in death in November of 1972. He later married Agnes Jansen on June 26, 1976, at the United Methodist Church in Blairsburg. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Belmond.

Throughout his life, George had been an avid motorcyclist. He and his wives had enjoyed touring on his cycles and had been to Sturgis and various other places throughout the country. George had owned Harley-Davidsons, GoldWings, and Indians. He also liked to collect postal stamps.

He and Agnes enjoyed wintering at Sunshine R.V. Park in Harlingen, Texas, where they enjoyed square dancing. The two of them were also reading tutors for local students during their time they wintered in Texas. They were ballroom dancers and George was an excellent pool player. Agnes preceded George in death on November 28, 1999.

Mr. Jenison was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond, a past member of the Masons and VFW Post. He was a longtime volunteer for the Belmond Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Iowa Firemen's Association.

George had been at the Belmond Health Care Center as a result of complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

Those left to cherish the memory of his life are his son, Tom Jenison, of Pharr, Texas; daughter, Susan and husband, Bruce Johnson, of Colorado; brother, Leland and his wife, Norma Jeanne Jenison, of Belmond; sisters, Ardeth Laake, of Belmond, and Elna and her husband, Gary Day, of Mason City; four grandsons, Aaron, Alex, Michael, and James; and one granddaughter, Corrina; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his stepson, Michael D. and his wife, Carla Holt, of Iowa Falls, and their children, Mikelle, Nicholas, and Jonathon; a stepdaughter, Pamela and her husband, Dennis Doolittle, of Williams, and their children, Eric and Grant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Hazel (Sandberg) Jenison, his first wife, Margaret; his second wife, Agnes; and two brothers, Arnold and Robert Jenison.

His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, 1031 First St. S.E. in Belmond, with Pastor Michael Druhl officiating. Burial with full military honors rendered by the Belmond Honor Guard will be at the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1p.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at the church.

The family suggest memorials to the United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

EDWIN B. GRIGA

OSAGE - Edwin B. Griga, 87, of Osage, passed away Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Edwin was born March 9, 1914, the son of Martin and Anna (Valek) Griga at Austin, Minn. He received his education in Mitchell County Schools.

On Feb. 22, 1938, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Bakkum in Osage. To this union one daughter, Joyce Ann, was born.

Edwin spent most of his life in Mitchell County. He worked as a laborer in the area. In 1966, they moved to their home east of Little Cedar, retiring in 1979.

Ed's interest and hobbies were fishing, gardening and helping care for his family and friends.

NEW HAMPTON - A. J. Mashek, 68, of New Hampton, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City from complications during surgery.

Adolph James Mashek was born Sept. 8, 1933, at Calmar, the son of Adolph J. and Mac (Riehle) Mashek. He attended school at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton. After his schooling he went to work on the family farm until entering the service in October of 1953. He served during the Korean Conflict until receiving his honorable discharge in October of 1955.

After returning home he was united in marriage to Agnes Zimmer on Oct. 22, 1955, at St. Mary's in New Hampton. After their marriage the couple resided on the Zimmer Homestead where they farmed all of their married life until his semi-retirement in 1983 when they moved to New Hampton. During their retirement the couple spent their winters in Alamo, Texas.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the New Hampton American Legion and the Alta Vista VFW, the Cattleman's Association and was a Farm Bureau Member. He served as Soil Conservation Commissioner for many years.

He enjoyed planting and harvesting and fishing and camping with his grandchildren.

CLEAR LAKE - Terry E. Mullan, 60, of 37 Lido Road, Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

BELMOND - Esther H. Mennenga, 88, of Belmond, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services for Esther H. Mennenga will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Immanual Reformed Church near Belmond, with Pastor Rob Ford officiating. Burial will take place in the Immanual Reformed Church Cemetery.

Visitation for Esther H. Mennenga will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Esther Henrietta Mennenga, daughter of Menno and Kate (Pals) Frohling, was born on Dec. 6, 1912 in rural Belmond. Esther graduated from Belmond High School in 1931 and taught in country school in Pleasant Township.

Esther was united in marriage to Harry E. Mennenga on Feb. 9, 1934 at the Immanual Reformed Parsonage in Belmond. She and Harry lived and farmed east of Belmond until 1982 when they moved into Belmond.

Esther enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her seven grandsons and friends.

Esther was a longtime member of the Immanual Reformed Church and served her church in many ways. She taught Bible school, Sunday school and catechism for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Guild.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her sons, Larry Mennenga and his wife, Margaret, of Belmond; Lynn Mennenga and his wife, Sue, of Pontiac, Ill.; her sister, Mildred Tomson and her husband, Royce, of Fort Dodge; three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Cunningham, of Belmond, Ben Mennenga, of Belmond, and Loren Mennenga, of Belmond; a sister-in-law, Edna Krebs and husband, Ted, of Crete, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Duan Mennenga, of Chicago, Ill.; Daren Mennenga and his wife, Diena, of Belmond, Scott Mennenga and his wife, Jill, of Painsfield, Ill., Todd Mennenga, of Naperville, Ill., Bradd Mennenga and his wife, Victoria, of Plainsville, Ohio, Ross Mennenga and his wife, Christina, of Coal City, Ill., and Chadd Mennenga, of Pontiac, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Alexis, Sophie, Andrew, Alex, and Tristan Mennenga.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry, in 1995; and two sisters, Ruth Jenison and Erma Cunningham.

TERRY E. MULLAN

Terry Eugene Mullan was born on Oct. 28, 1940 to Frank and Madelon Mullan at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He attended Clear Lake Schools and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1958.

He attended the University of Northern Iowa and St. Johns University in Collegeville, Minn. Terry played baseball at both schools and later loved to play very competitive fast pitch and slow pitch softball.

In 1963 Terry moved his family to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where he was employed in sales for Gestetner Duplicating Machines and Kraft Foods retail division.

In 1968 Terry joined the ambassador Division of Hallmark Cards as a sales representative in Cedar Rapids. Later he was transferred to Denver, Colo. as a district sales manager.

In 1978 Terry became a self-employed executive search "Head Hunter" in the oil industry. In 1981 Terry returned to Clear Lake where he spent the first four years as a food salesperson for H&H Food Service and in 1985 found his calling in insurance and investment business. His company, Safe Investors Inc. was opened in 1987.

In 1991 he married his childhood neighbor and lifelong friend, Nancy (Banks) Dasch.

Terry was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Noon Lions Club, Clear Lake Area Concert Association, and the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce. He also broadcasted the play-by-play of the Clear Lake and Ventura football and basketball games for the radio station K.Z.E.V including the state championship girls basketball during the "Lynne Lorenzen Era."

Terry loved to Bar-B-Que and was the Iowa State Fair Champion twice. He also enjoyed golfing with his buddies, the "49ers" and boating with his wife, family and friends. His love for Clear Lake was obvious and he always had a story to tell about his personal accomplishment of bringing back hydroplane racing to Clear Lake.

He was the number one fan of the Clear Lake Lions and treasured the football, which was autographed by the team this year. Although his illness kept him from the games, he faithfully listened to the games on the radio and he also was an avid Hawkeye Fan.

Left to cherish the loving memory of this kind and gentle man are his wife Nancy, of Clear Lake; sons, Kevin Mullan, of Denver, Colo. and Scott Mullan and wife, Deborah, along with their three children of Sacramento, Calif.; a stepson, Jason Dasch and wife, Heather, of Des Moines, and a stepdaughter, Brenda Dasch and her fiancé, Matthew Paulson, of Oshkosh Wis.; also his brother, Don Mullan and his wife, Marcia, from Bella Vista, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and beloved aunt, Kathryn Mullan.

ALTA VISTA - Agnes Eichenberger, 87, of Alta Vista, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) at the Colonial Manor in Elma.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista, with the Rev. John Hemann officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
