IVA M. SCHALOW

BRITT - Iva M. Schalow, 87, entered into eternal rest Friday (May 19, 2001) at the Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, with the Rev. Dennis Secrease officiating and at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mullen Funeral Home, Adair, with the Rev. Peter Haenftling officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Adair.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mullen Funeral Home, Adair.

Iva May Schalow was born July 10, 1913, at Elgin, Utah, the daughter of Lyman and Blanche (Long) Kent. At the age of two, the family moved to Guthrie County, Iowa. She attended Guthrie County rural schools.

Iva was united in marriage with Albert (Abe) Schalow on Oct. 3, 1932, at the Christian Church parsonage in Guthrie Center. To this union one child, Marlene, was born. The couple farmed in Grant Township until moving to Adair in 1952.

Iva was employed by the Adair-Casey schools as a hot lunch cook for 22 years. She later was a nanny for Rhett Shockey for several years. Iva moved to Britt in 1982 to be near her family.

Iva is survived by her daughter, Marlene and her husband, Gary Gray, of Britt; grandchildren, Kathie Price and her husband, John, of Britt, Michael Gray and his wife, Ranae, of Garner, and Mitzi Chizek and her husband, Wayne, of Grimes; great-grandchildren, Jason Chizek and his wife, Jessie, and their son, Kamrin, Amanda Chizek, and Kelley and Jessica Gray; step-great-granddaughter, Mindy (Price) Weeks and her husband, Gary, and their children, Mikayla and Owen; one sister-in-law, Irene Kent; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Abe, in December of 1976; a brother, Charles Kent in 1978; and an infant sister, Edith.

MARTHA BRADY

LATIMER-Martha Brady, 63, died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer with the Rev. Jeff Long and the Rev. Norman Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel United Church of Christ Cemetery, Latimer.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Latimer. Willim Funeral Home, Latimer, is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Mae Brady was born on February 2, 1938, at Des Moines. She was baptized on June 7, 1948, and was confirmed on April 6, 1952. She attended Franklin Consolidated School at Latimer.

On May 5, 1957, Martha was united in marriage to Delmar Brady at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. She enjoyed flowers, knitting, baking and cooking. She loved her family and her grandchildren very much.

Martha was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. She was active in her church with the Women's Fellowship and Music Busters and served as a Sunday school teacher.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Delmar, of Latimer; a son, Douglas and his wife, Michelle, of Sheffield; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Todd Mollenbeck, of Latimer; a brother, Jim Bruns and his wife, Roselyn, of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Michael and Mark Brady of Hampton, Blake, Devyn and Kylie Brady of Sheffield, and Trevor Mollenbeck of Latimer; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Etta (Menning) Bruns, and a grandson, Cody Mollenbeck.

RAYMOND L. STAYNER

ROCKFORD - Raymond L. Stayner, 81, of 220th St., rural Rockford, died Sunday (May 20, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Miles M. Grismore officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Flood Creek Cemetery, rural Rockford, with graveside military honors conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main Ave., Rockford, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

ALMA O. MOON

MASON CITY - Alma O. Moon, 96, of 324 Second St., N.E., died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Scott Holmes officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Alma was born Oct. 28, 1904, in LeRoy, Minn., the daughter of Ole and Anna (Jacobson) Hendrickson. She attended schools in LeRoy, moving to Mason City in 1922.

Alma married Raymond R. Moon on Dec. 24, 1924, in Osage. She was a seamstress for Mason City Tent & Awning for many years.

Alma was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Birthday Club.

Alma is survived by a daughter, Barbara Wolfram and her husband, Ted, of LaGrange, Texas; a son, Roger L. Moon and his wife, Marilyn, of Plymouth; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Alta Hansen and Betty Crawford, both of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, John M. Moon; a daughter, Virginia R. Moon; and three sisters, Sella Hendrickson, Hattie Bergman and Clara Popac.

ROGER RAY STOCK

LAKE MILLS - Funeral services for Roger Ray Stock, 47, of 2041/2 North Park Street, formerly of Greene, have been rescheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet of the United Methodist Church officiating. Private burial services will be at Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service time Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene.

Roger Ray Stock was born May 16, 1954, at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, a son of Ivan Ray and Rachel Mae (Baldwin) Stock. Roger chose to end his life on Saturday (May 19, 2001) at the Worth County Jail in Northwood.

He was baptized on Dec. 15, 1954, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He received his education in the Greene Public Schools, and as a teen-ager moved to Colorado where he attended Lakewood High School in Denver. He later enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Plymouth Rock.

Upon his discharge he returned to Colorado where he was employed for the AMAX Mines in Leadville. He was later engaged in recycling and scrap metal in Washington and Colorado.

In 1985 Roger met Adele Hylback in Everett, Wash., and shortly thereafter returned to Iowa where they made their home. Roger interests included his life-long love of motorcycling, camping, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Adele Hylback Stock of Lake Mills; one daughter, Rebecca Hylback of Ada, Okla.; two sons, Cory Hylback of Ada, Okla., and Adam Brown of Denver, Colo.; his mother, Rachel Vincent of Clarksville; two sisters, Brenda Miller of Lake Mills and Shelly Dillon of Des Moines; three brothers, Randy Stock and Brian Stock, both of Denver, Colo., and Dana Stock of Charles City; his stepmother, Margaret Stock of Greene; a stepbrother, Irvin Potter of Celina, Tenn.; and a stepsister, Dawn Sawyer of Elizabeth City, N.C. He is also survived by his aunt, Darlene Keifer of Greene and an uncle, Clair Baldwin of Marble Rock and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Stock; stepfather, Robert Vincent; and his brother, Craig Stock.

IOWA CITY - Edwin Earnest Christ, 79, of 1731 Gleason Ave., died Jan. 2, 2001 at home.

Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Leland.

DYLAN ANTHONY HOEFER

MANCHESTER - Dylan Anthony Hoefer, 17-hour-old infant son of Kevin and Lisa (Atkinson) Hoefer died at 7:08 a.m. on Satuday (May 19, 2001) at S. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Dylan was born at 1:58 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

A private family visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley on Wednesday. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley.

A Dylan A. Hoefer memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.

A baby is loved long before they are born ... and we had so many dreams for our life together with our beautiful baby. These dreams went to Heaven in a sad moment. We are now left with our tears and so much pain that words can not express it. Dylan will always remain our little "precious" baby, and while he will be missing from our arms he will be forever in our hearts. And we will do our best to find comfort in knowing that he rests lovingly in the arms of Jesus. Dylan ... we will love you forever.

ROCKFORD - Raymond L. Stayner, 81, 1881 220th St., rural Rockford, died early Sunday morning (May 20, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral for Raymond Stayner will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Miles M. Grismore officiating. Raymond Leroy Stayner was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Sargeant, Minn., the son of Thomas Grover and Nelli (Knapp) Stayner. On July 17, 1942, in Sargeant, Minn., he was united in marriage to Helen Iverson. Mr. Stayner was then called into the service of his country during World War II.

He was drafted into the United States Army, and rose to the rank of corporal, serving with the Corps. of Engineers in the Aleutian Islands. Upon his honorable discharge, Raymond moved with his wife to the Charles City area, where his parents had already moved. He worked for several area farmers there. Helen died on Jan. 10, 1950, in Charles City.

On March 1, 1953, at the former Flood Creek Methodist Church, Raymond was united in marriage to Alice Mabel Duesenberg. In 1954, Raymond accepted a position with the former Oliver/White Farm Tractor Factory in Charles City. He worked in what was known as the "bullpen," or the final inspection department. Raymond was a valued employee for 27 years, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Stayner was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Mason City. He was a member of the American Legion Shannon Wilson Post #174 of Charles City. Raymond actively volunteered at the Cedar Valley Engine Club, rural Charles City, delightfully enjoying many of the odd jobs which needed to be done. In his spare time at home, Raymond loved woodworking in his shop.

Those thankful for sharing Raymond's life are his wife of 48 years, Alice, of Rockford; five children, Bonnie Mason and her husband, Kent, of Minnetonka, Minn., Dean Stayner and his wife, Debbie, of Walnut Grove, Mo., Diana Heyden and her husband, Ken, of Vernon, Conn., Nancy Weide, of Mason City, and her special friend, Everett Paeper, of Cherokee, and Richard Stayner and his special friend, Joan Temple, of Cross Plains, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Wulff, of Charles City, Erma Grovdahl and her husband, George, of Sargeant, Minn., and Madeline Grotalushen and her husband, Wayne, of Rochester, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Tricia, Susanne and Michelle Mason, Julie and Jason Stayner, Kristy Turner and her husband Scott, Shelly Heyden, Justin Stotts and his fiancee, Nikki Kimble, Barbara Stotts, Christopher and Samantha Jo Stayner, and Jarred Temple; and one great-granddaughter, Laurie Turner.

In addition to his parents and first wife, two brothers, Woodrow and Harry Stayner, and two sisters, Marvel Knutson and Margaret Berge, preceded him in death.

ALICE F. NELSON

MASON CITY - Alice F. Nelson, 87, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave. died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at the Heritage Care Center.

Alice was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Britt, the daughter of William and Anna (Schrader) Swyter. She graduated from Britt High School and Hamilton's School of Business. She moved to Mason City in 1931.

Alice married Russell J. Nelson on Feb. 5, 1944, in Mason City. She was a secretary for Standard Oil here in Mason City.

Alice was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and church circle.

She volunteered at Hospice, Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank and the Mercy Volunteer Service League.

Alice is survived by two daughters, Kathy Nelson and husband, Roland, of Mason City, and Phyllis Clark, of Largo, Fla.; two grandchildren, John Valline, of Nevada, and Steven Valline, of Grimes; one great-grandaughter, Martina Volline, of Grimes; one brother, William Swyter and his wife, Grace, of Humboldt; one sister, Hattie Feather, of Riceville; and many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five brothers.

ESTHER RUTH ROSENBERG

ST. ANSGAR - Esther Ruth Rosenberg, 97, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday (May 20, 2001) at St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.

Esther Ruth (Priem) Rosenberg was born on Sept. 12, 1903, on the family farm in Newburg Township west of St. Ansgar. She was the daughter of Ferdinand and Louise (Gerlach) Priem. Esther and her twin sister, Edna, were the youngest of 11 children, seven of whom lived to adulthood. Esther's father died when she was six years old and the children all helped their mother to continue farming.

Esther received her early education in the Newburg school and graduated from Carpenter High School in 1922. She enjoyed playing basketball during her high school days.

Esther married Lawrence Rosenberg on Oct. 23, 1927, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Township. They made their home in St. Ansgar where Lawrence drove the Co-op Oil tank wagon for many years. Esther worked in the local variety store for several years. Together they enjoyed gardening. Lawrence and Esther were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Lawrence passed away on April 20, 1978.

Esther was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and other children in the community. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents; six brothers and four sisters. Her twin sister, Edna Brandt, died on May 8, 2001.

Esther is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Jean and her husband, Jerrold Eide, of Mason City, and their children, Marcia (Randy) Hinrichs, of Lisbon, Larry (Barb) Eide, of Mason City, and Carol (Stan) Horsfall, of Mason City; and Gloria and her husband, Newlin Jensen, of St. Ansgar and their children, Sue (Mike) Urbatsch, of Manly, Greg (Donna) Jensen, of Woodbury, Minn., and Steve (Marla) Jensen, of Seattle, Wash.

Esther is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Heather Hert, Jay, Jamie and Jeff Eide, Ryan, Katie and James Horsfall, Jake and Luke Urbatsch, and Erika and Grady Jensen; one great-great-grandchild, Alexandra Jones; and many nieces and nephews, friends and a Christian Congregation.

Sally Davis was born on April 7, 1930, in Mason City, the daughter of Dale Warren and Genevieve M. (Bloxham) Kehm. She graduated from Mason City High School.

She was united in marriage to Warren G. Davis on Nov. 5, 1961, at the First United Methodist Church in Mason City. She was a member of the church and a part of the women's church circle. She was a member of the Amended Heart Association, and volunteered at the hospital gift shop.

Sally was known as a wonderful cook, homemaker and someone who loved to walk. She enjoyed time spent with family, and especially her grandchildren. In the fall of 2000, Sally and Warren enjoyed the trip of a lifetime - a cruise taken to Alaska with special friends, Karen and Wally Collins, of Green Bay, Wis.

ARDELLA JEAN NELSON

KLEMME - The funeral for Ardella J. Nelson, 75, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, with the Rev. Curtis DeVance officiating. Interment will be in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church.

Ardella Jean Nelson, daughter of Verner and Jenny (Meinderts) Nelson, was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Hancock County.

She graduated from the Klemme High School and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She worked in Mason City for a time before going to Madison, Wis., where she was the secretary for the Bishop of the First United Methodist Church in Madison. She later started her own copying business in Madison.

She moved back to Klemme, and, after her health began to fail, entered the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City, where she died on Monday (May 21, 20001).

She is survived by a sister, Erdene Halferty, of Keosauqua; niece, Sue Rardin and her husband, Bill, of Bloomfield; and a nephew, Brian Halferty, of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

MASON CITY - Thekla M. Gamb, 92, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel of Flowers in Brookfield, Wis., with the Rev. Donald Myrom of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in the Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery.

Thekla M. Gamb, the daughter of Niels Hans and Margaret Helen Bertha (Pahl) Nielsen, was born on Jan. 10, 1909, in Milwaukee. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1926 and furthered her education at the library school of the University of Wisconsin. She completed her schooling there with a certificate in library science. She was a librarian at the Milwaukee Library System before getting married.

She was united in marriage to the Rev. H. Ulrich Gamb on April 29, 1939, in Milwaukee. Throughout the Rev. Gamb's career they moved from Berlin, Wis., to Middleton, Wis., where they made their home for 24 years.

In 1995 she moved to Mason City to be closer to her family. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton, Wis.

She enjoyed leading Bible studies for 14 years, reading, working needlepoint, playing the piano and gardening. The most important thing in her life was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

Those thankful for having her in their life include sons, Mark C. Gamb and wife, Grete, of Schaumburg, Ill., and James D. Gamb and wife, Priscilla, of Pasadena, Calif.; daughter, Elaine L. Braun and husband, Bob, of Mason City; grandchildren, Scott Gamb, of Rochester, Minn., Brett Gamb, of Schaumburg, Ill., Brendon Gamb and wife, Jen, of Seattle, Wash., Emy Gamb, of Pasadena, Calif., Jeffrey Braun and wife, Danielle, of Mason City, Gregory Braun and wife, Carrie, and their expectant twins, of Ankeny, and Christy Braun, of Minnetonka, Minn.; and great-grandson, Tanner Braun, of Mason City.

MASON CITY - Alice F. Nelson, 87, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., died Saturday (May 19, 2001) at the Heritage Care Center.

Memorial Mass was held on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Burial was in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Alice was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Britt, the daughter of William and Anna (Schrader) Swyter. She graduated from Britt High School and Hamilton School of Business. She moved to Mason City in 1931.

Alice married Russell J. Nelson on Feb. 5, 1944, in Mason City. She was a secretary for Standard Oil in Mason City.

Alice was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and church circle.

She volunteered at Hospice, Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank and the Mercy Volunteer Service League.

Alice is survived by two daughters, Kathy Nelson and husband, Roland, of Mason City, and Phyllis Clark, of Largo, Fla.; two grandchildren, John Valline, of Nevada, and Steven Valline, of Grimes; one great-grandaughter, Martina Valline, of Grimes; one brother, William Swyter and his wife, Grace, of Humboldt; one sister, Hattie Feather, of Riceville; and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was born Jan. 26, 1911, in Mason City, the son of Dan and Ann (Vrbikas) Walsh. He married Stella Katieva on Feb. 8, 1932.

Dan worked at Mason City Brick and Tile Co. for over 50 years, retiring in 1977 when the plant closed.

He enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing and animals.

Dan is survived by one son, Dan Walsh and his wife, Evelyn, of Mason City; three grandchildren and their families, Larry Walsh and his wife, Melissa and son, Garrett, of Loveland, Colo., Steve Walsh and his wife, Lisa, and their children, Sarah and Alex, of Aurora, Colo., and James Walsh and his wife, Anita and daughter, Ashley, of North Liberty; and one sister, Anna Atwood, of Davenport.

GOODELL - The funeral for Lee O. Robbins, 72, of Goodell will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Belmond, with military rites conducted by the Goodell and Belmond Honor Guard.

Casket bearers will be 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Honorary bearers will be all Belmond Knights of Columbus Members of Council 8110.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, with a 2:30 p.m. parish rosary, followed by a 7 p.m. Scripture service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Lee Oren Robbins, the son of Lee R. and Mildred (Fuller) Robbins, was born April 18, 1929, in Goodell. He graduated from Goodell High School in 1947. He served in the United States Air Force in Guam from 1947 until 1951. He received a Good Conduct Medal and a Far East Occupation Medal.

Lee was united in marriage to Deloris Green on Dec. 27, 1952. He worked for General Mills from 1951 to 1964, and then Central Soya until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of the Goodell Fire Department, served as mayor of Goodell from 1968 to 1995, achieved an Honorary Lifetime membership in the Knights of Columbus, and was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church in Goodell and St. Francis Xavier Church in Belmond.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling and helping farmers with their crops. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time together.

He died on Monday (May 21, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Those thankful for sharing his life are his wife, Deloris, of Goodell; his children, Kenneth and his wife, Rene, of Belmond, Rita Christians and her husband, Tom, of Belmond, Larry and his fiancée, Phyllis Terhark, of Goodell, David and his wife, Linda, of Goodell, Dale and his wife, Lynn, of Klemme, and Rebecca Munoz and her husband, Rick, of Ottumwa; grandchildren, Tony, Matt, Kristina, Natlaie Robbins, Clinton and his wife Andrea and their son Cale, Nichole, Neil Christians, Amanda, Mark Robbins and his daughter Jasmine, Beth, James, Rachael Robbins, Jill Logston and her husband Richie and their children Evan and Mikaylah, Jennifer and Vina Munoz; his mother, Mildred Robbins, of Belmond; brother, Eugene Robbins, of Forest City; sisters, Norma Zelsdorf and her husband, Tom, of Burlington, Janice Pascaly and her husband, Russ, of Springville, Tenn., and Maxine Johnson, of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Gladys is survived by three stepdaughters, Barbara, of Chicago, Ill., Marlene Fremin, of Denver, Colo., and Virginia Pedersen and her husband, Severen, of Castle Rock, Colo.; one stepson, Leonard Harms and his wife, Lois, of Forest City; three sisters, Rose Mae Johnson, of Estherville, Vena Cota, of New Brighton, Minn., and Florence Lutz, of Mesa, Ariz.; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
