MARGARET TIERNEY

MASON CITY - Margaret Tierney, 91, of 2419 S. Jefferson Ave., died Friday afternoon (May 4, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. Mary Ellen Miller, president of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of North Central Iowa, will conduct the service. Mrs. Tierney's body was donated to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department.

The family will greet friends with mementos of Margaret's life one hour before services. Following the service a light lunch will be served at the funeral home.

Margaret was born on Dec. 21, 1909, at Spencer, the daughter of Louis and Ethleen (Macy) Helm. She graduated from Spencer High School, attended Drake University for one year and then attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa. She majored in music with an interest in concert violin. Music was a major part of her life and she played with the North Iowa Symphony and also gave private violin lessons.

Her hard work led her to become a secretary in Des Moines, to teach country school in Royal, Iowa, to candle eggs in Spencer and to work in a laundry in Mason City. She later worked well into her 60s at the James Grocery in Mason City.

In May 1935 she was united in marriage to Raymond H. Tierney. To this union were born two children.

Margaret played organ for the Senior Citizens and enjoyed crocheting and working with ceramics. She was a gardener in her early years and enjoyed her card and birthday clubs, working on genealogy and cooking for family and friends. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church and had been a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for the past 20 years.

Those who shared in her long life include her daughter, Dee, and her husband, Roger Hunt, Nora Springs; her son, Richard Tierney, Mason City; two grandchildren, Peg and her husband, Glenn Morgan, Bailey, Colo., and Matt Hunt of Nora Springs; and one sister, Alma Reid, Woodville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson, Joe Hunt.

MARGARET LARSEN

FOREST CITY - Margaret Larsen, 86, of Forest City, died Saturday (May 5, 2001) at the Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton, Minn.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Craig Steime officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Tuesday and continue until time of service. There will also be a rosary service at the church at 10 a.m. before the service.

WAVA MAE THOME

OSAGE - Wava Mae Thome, age 86, of Osage, died Saturday (May 5, 2001) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home, Stacyville.

Wava was born Aug. 19, 1914, to Harvey and Alta (Lynn) Krumlinde in Dike, the first of four children. They moved to the Floyd area in 1928 and later to Mitchell County, where she completed her eighth-grade education.

Wava was united in marriage to Roman Thome on April 6, 1942, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Meyer. They had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. They lived in the Osage area, moving into Osage in 1967. In the early years of her marriage, Wava worked as a mid-wife and helped many young mothers with their children. She was a cook at the Mitchell County Care Facility. She was a Brownie troop leader. She was a cook at the Sacred Heart Catholic School for 14 years, cooked at the Knights of Columbus Hall and catered weddings. In the summers she cooked at the Faith Lutheran Home. After her retirement in 1978, she assisted many elderly people with daily chores and errands. If someone needed her, she was there.

Wava was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage and the Sacred Heart Guild. She enjoyed her cooking, baking, gardening and, especially, her flower gardens. She dearly loved spending time with her family.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, with a scripture service at 7 p.m.

Wava is survived by her husband, Roman; two daughters, Joeleen Samec and her husband, Richard, of New Hampton, and their children, Jerry, Randy, and Jill, Deanna Shoars and her husband, Michael, of Orchard, and their children, Chad and Chris; one sister-in-law, Ruth Krumlinde, of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Marian; and two brothers, Kenneth and Richard.

LORRAINE F. BUCK

CLEAR LAKE - Lorraine F. Buck, "39", of 1110 N. Fifth St., Clear Lake, died Friday (May 4, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Galilean Lutheran Church, 4454 255th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Peter Narum officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Memorials in Lorraine's memory may be given to Hospice of North Iowa, or SafePlace, P.O. Box 19454, Austin, TX 78760.

Lorraine was born Dec. 26, 1924, at Ft. Dodge, a daughter of Hugh and Anna (Thomas) Carlson. Following her graduation from Ft. Dodge High School, she married Donald Buck on May 24, 1945, at Ft. Dodge. Moving to Clear Lake in 1949, Lorraine worked at the state liquor store, Clear Lake, for many years and part-time at the Sale Barn, Garner. Her memberships included Keynotes, Beta Sigma Phi, Zion Lutheran Church, Galilean Lutheran Church and Bridge Club, all of Clear Lake.

Survivors include one granddaughter, Melonie Allyn-Schwerin and her husband, Jason, Austin, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Andrea Allyn-Schwerin, Austin, Texas; one brother, Roger Carlson, Albuquerque, N. M.; and an honorary granddaughter, Krista Hoppe, Lake Mills.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Roy; a daughter, Kate Harrison; and a brother, Hugh "Fudd" Carlson, Jr.

Those planning to attend the service are requested to wear bright colored articles of clothing.

KARL-HEINZ RASCHE

PLANTATION, FLA. - Karl-Heinz Rasche, 79, of Plantation, Fla., died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at the Vitas Hospice in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Viewing and celebration of life were held Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, Davie, Fla. Viewing and celebration of life will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Karl-Heinz Rasche, the son of Willie and Freda (Probst) Rasche, was born Oct. 26, 1921, at Stargard, Pomerania, Germany (now Poland). He was educated in Germany and had a master's degree in philosophy. Karl played keyboard, entertaining across Europe and North Africa, was director of entertainment at Garmish American Military Recreational Area and worked at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.

He immigrated to the United States in 1963 and settled in Florida, where he worked with local bands. Later, he and a friend formed "The Jolly Jacks," a show group, which worked in Miami and the Midwest and then was co-leader of the International Four Plus One, a comedy show group and ran a patio and casual furniture store.

On Nov. 10, 1974, he was married in Fort Lauderdale, to Shirley Malek, formerly of Garner. Karl loved oil painting, bowling, football, animals, cooking and traveling in the motor home. His stroke in 1995 left him partially paralyzed and with impaired speech, but he always found a way to communicate if the words didn't come. His bypass and numerous surgeries were just steps in his life, and he was an inspiration to all around him.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Plantation, Fla.; a son, Shane Rasche, of North Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren, Justin and Melissa; his mother-in-law, Helen Malek, of Garner; a brother-in-law, Robert Malek, of Garner; a sister-in-law, Donna Jacobsen and her husband, Don, of Garner; three nephews, Ryan, Brent and Eric; and nieces, Heidi and Crystal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jade; a brother; and his father-in-law, Syl Malek.

BUFFALO CENTER - Clara Osland, 98, of Buffalo Center, died Friday (May 4, 2001) at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Mary Sacco officiating. Burial will be in West Cemetery, Rake.

ILA I. KITTLESON

ST. ANSGAR - Ila I. Kittleson, 94, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday (May 6, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Ila Kittleson was born on Oct. 17, 1906 in Breda, Iowa, to Edward W. and Augusta (Sinn) Bookhart. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1924 and also graduated from the University of Iowa in 1929.

Ila married Sherwin R. Kittleson on April 28, 1930 in Mason City. She worked at the Public Library in St. Ansgar starting in July of 1949 and retiring in February of 1986 after 36 years.

She was the librarian at the St. Ansgar High School for nine years, concurrent with the public library position. The 1966 Saints Highlights (St. Ansgar High School Yearbook) was dedicated to her. Ila enjoyed stamp collecting, reading, her rose garden, fishing trips to Minnesota and bird watching.

She is survived by her children, Edward Kittleson and his wife, Mary, of Greene, Dr. Sherwin (Stan) Kittleson and his wife, Judi, of Angel Fire, N.M., Karen Bloom and her husband, Darrell, of Austin, Minn., and Roger Kittleson and his wife, Julie, of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died Dec. 13, 1990; and two sisters.

RUTH MARJORIE ROTHOVE

NORTHWOOD - Ruth Marjorie Rothove, 89, of Northwood, died on Sunday (May 6, 2001) at her residence.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Kensett with the Rev. Selmer Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manly.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in Northwood.

Ruth Marjorie Rothove was born in Checotah, Okla., on Sept. 9, 1911 to Chester Walter and Anna Cecelia (Haines) Melvin. Ruth graduated from high school at Clarion, Iowa, in 1929 and also graduated from Fort Dodge School of Cosmetology in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1941.

She then worked as a practical nurse at Clarion General Hospital from 1942-1943. She then enlisted in the WAACs on Aug. 24, 1943, and served in Louisville, Ky. Where she worked as an occupational therapist. She was discharged on Dec. 10, 1945.

Ruth married Francis Rothove in Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 6, 1943. They both served in World War II, with Ruth earning a Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, WAAC Service Medal.

Ruth and Frank started farming in Wright County in 1946 and finally settled in Worth County in 1955. They continued to farm until Frank's retirement in 1980.

Ruth was active in Farm Bureau Women where she held many offices. She was active in 4-H where she was a leader and worked with the horticultural department as superintendent. She received the Worth County Alumni Award in 1988. She was active in the church where she was president of the Rosary Society and held many other offices.

In recent years, Ruth lived in Northwood at the Maple Court Apartments, where she enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and visiting. Ruth was an avid reader and supported both Kensett and Hanlontown libraries.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Walter, Chester and Wayne Melvin; three sisters, Allie Childs, Mable Freeze and Dorothy Didio.

Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Pat Rothove, of Kensett; daughter, Linda Peterson, of Mason City; grandchildren, Tracy and Kevin Frette, of Ankeny, Todd and Jill Rothove, of Northwood, Renee and Doug Burtness, of Mason City; Holly Rothove, of Albert Lea; stepgrandchildren, Weston and Angie Haugebak, of Nevada, and Shannon Haugebak, of Northwood; great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Mackenzie Burtness, Collin Jaspers, Tristan Rothove, and Trevor Rothove.

CHARLOTTE J. BUSHBAUM

MANLY - Charlotte J. Bushbaum, 66, of 934 N. Grant, Manly, passed away Monday (May 7, 2001) at her home, surrounded by her family.

An inurnment service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2001 at the columbarium area of Elmwood- St. Joseph Cemetery at Mason City.

According to Mrs. Bushbaum's wishes, her body has been cremated. Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring Street, Manly, is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Charlotte was born April 16, 1935, in Lake Mills, the daughter of Iver and Bernice Louise (Ash) Branstad. She grew up and attended school in Lake Mills, later attending college in Fort Dodge and graduating from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City.

Charlotte was united in marriage to Roger Bushbaum in Albert Lea, Minn., and the couple raised three wonderful daughters. She was a lifelong nurse who worked most recently at the Manly Care Center.

Charlotte enjoyed flowers, camping, fishing, bird watching, playing cards, especially 500, and traveling. She was an avid computer user and she loved watching her favorite movie, "On Golden Pond.'' Her great joy was spending time with her family. She will be missed by everyone who knew her, especially her family and close friends.

Charlotte will be greatly missed by her husband, Roger, of Manly; her mother, Bernice, of Northwood; three daughters, Theresa Dean, Tracy Leake and her significant other, David Mitchell, and Roxanne Bushbaum and her husband, David Stevens, all of Northwood; one sister, Virginia Servantez and her husband, Mike, of Mason City; two brothers, Iver Dean Branstad and his wife, Edith, of St. Ansgar and Denny Branstad and his significant other, Meata, of Casey; seven grandchildren, Rachel Myrik, Steven "Buck" Leake, Michelle Harris, Adam Mugan, Bryon Leake, Erin Leake, and Priscilla Pogue; three great-grandchildren, Mariah Harris, Dustin Myrik, and Austin Mugan, and several nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her father, Iver; her mother-in-law, Kate Bushbaum; a brother, Barney Branstad, and a very special friend, Tammy.

JAMES C. GREIMAN

GARNER - James Charles Greiman, 59, passed away on May 1, 2001, in Modesto, Calif. following a brief illness.

Jim was born on June 13, 1941, in Garner, Iowa, the son of Norman and Margaret (Engstler) Greiman. He graduated from Garner High School in 1959 and served in the United States Air Force for eight years. He retired from Control Data Corporation after 25 years. He had been employed at Manteca Equipment Rental for the last three years.

Jim enjoyed gardening, working on his '65 Comet, avidly following NASCAR racing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by a son, Scot and his wife, Sebrina, of Manteca, Calif.; daughter, Kristen Reed and husband, Greg, of Modesto, Calif.; grandchildren, Shelby and Samantha; four brothers, Daryl, of Garner; Russel, of Spirit Lake, Patrick and his wife, Jane, of Manteca, Calif., and Joseph and wife, Sharon, of The Dalles, Ore.; and sister, Linda Rapp and husband, James, of Clear Lake; several nieces and nephews; and a former wife, Marlene.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas; and nephew, Joshua Greiman.

The Garner Veteran's Ceremonial Unit will conduct private graveside services at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2001, at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

VELVA BANG MILLER

JOICE -Velva Bang Miller, 79 formerly of Joice, passed away at her home in Bloomington, Minn., Saturday (May 5, 2001).

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Concordia Cemetery in rural Joice.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Velva was born, along with her twin sister, Velma, on Jan.10, 1922, at Forest City, to John and Maggie (Anderson) McClain. She graduated from Scarville High School in 1940.

She was united in marriage to Helmer Bang of Joice, on Jan. 5, 1943, in Denver, Colo. Following Helmer's discharge from the military, they made their home in Joice. She was a fulltime homemaker until 1958 when she went to work at Deluxe Products in Lake Mills where she worked for fifteen years.

Her first husband, Helmer, passed away on March 20, 1972. On Sept. 21, 1973, Velva was united in marriage to CD (Bing) Miller. They operated Miller's Grocery Store in Joice until his retirement. He passed away on June 11, 1990.

Velva continued to make her home in Joice until August of 1994. At that time, she sold her home and moved to Bloomington, Minn., where she made her home with her daughter, Valois.

NORTHWOOD - The funeral for Bernard "Bernie" Foss, 61, of Northwood, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church in rural Northwood, with the Rev. Dan Baker officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea, Minn.

Bernie died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at his home in Northwood.

Bernie L. Foss was born July 14, 1939, to Harlon and Ione (Tue) Foss. He grew up in Freeborn County and was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church.

Bernie served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. He worked as a lineman for L.E. Meyers in the early 1970s and was a farmer. Bernie was a lifelong member of Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church and served on the boards of Deer Creek Township and Worth County Co-op Oil.

He enjoyed building steam engines and recently completed a scale locomotive. Bernie especially enjoyed his family and friends, his trains and going to swap meets.

Survivors include brothers, John and his wife, Thelma Foss, of Albert Lea, Larry and his wife, Mary Foss, of West Des Moines, Paul and his wife, Genie Foss, of Glenville, Minn., Alan and his wife, Crystal Foss, of Bloomington, Minn., and Michael Foss, of Murrey, Utah; nieces and nephews, Bruce, Steven, Gregory, Jody, Tom, Cathy, Carol, Craig, Carrie, Susie, Susan, Sandra, Sara, Eric, Jeffrey, Daniel, Joseph and David; and many grandnieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joanne, and her husband, Roger Thompson.

NORTHWOOD - Millicent A. Irons, 74, of Northwood, died on Monday (May 7, 2001) at her home.

Millicent A. Irons was born in Northwood on May 21, 1926, to Louis and Burnette (Stoen) Beach. She attended school and graduated from Northwood High School. She operated Mil-Anns Beauty Shop in Northwood for eight years. She worked at Fleetguard in Lake Mills for 15 years, after which she retired.

Millicent loved her animals, especially her Bostons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Walton.

Millicent is survived by her son, Steve, of Northwood; and her daughter, Susan Battleson, of Minnesota; and four grandchildren.

DONALD WILLIAM GRUIS

ROCKFORD - Donald William Gruis, 78, of 1974 Echo Ave., Rockford, went home to rest in the arms of the Lord on Monday (May 7, 2001) following a lengthy battle with cancer. He died with his family around him at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, with The Graper-Walker Post 338 of Rockford conducting military rites.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main St. in Rockford.

Donald William Gruis, a retired farmer, was born in Bristow, on Nov. 10, 1922, to John D. and Anna (Bents) Gruis. He was the fifth child in a family of ten.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and a longtime member of the American Legion. He served on the board of directors of Floyd County Mutual Insurance Association from 1967 until retiring in 2000. For 35 years he also served on the Rockford Farmer's Co-op Elevator board of directors.

Don served his country during World War II in Patton's 3rd Army, 35th artillery division. He landed during D-day on Normandy Beach. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and pushed all the way to the war's end in Germany. France recently honored these men, including Don, at a special ceremony held at NIACC.

After an honorable discharge, he returned to the Rockford area to begin farming. He loved the land, animals, kids and what the good Lord provided.

On May 1, 1949, he was united in marriage to Gladys Arlene Fredlund in Rockford. To this union were born two children, a son, Dennis, and a daughter, Debra. Gladys died during heart surgery on Aug. 8, 1983.

Donald is survived by a daughter, Debra Loven and her husband, James, of Forney, Texas; one son, Dennis Gruis, of Rockford; the mother of four of his granddaughters, Patricia Gruis, of Newton; two sisters, Jean Otto, of Beloit, Wis., and Darlene Lambert, of Rockford; two brothers, Pete (Earl) Gruis and his wife, Wanda, of Rudd, and John Gruis and his wife, Darlene, of Rockford; five granddaughters, Laurie Eckerson and her husband, Merlin, of Spirit Lake, Deanna Schweizer and her husband, Travis, of Rockford, Carrie Meggers and her husband, Ted, of Newton, Jenna Gruis of Rockford, and Jill Anna Loven, of Forney, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Kalie and Kaleb Eckerson, of Spirit Lake, Taylor Schweizer, of Rockford, and Madison Meggers, of Newton.

KENNETH LYLE KINSETH

DECORAH - Kenneth Lyle Kinseth, 82, a retired Hotel developer, died Saturday (May 5, 2001) at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Thomas Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, with full military rites by the Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977, Bernatz -Symonds American Legion Post No. 163, and D.A.V. Hamre-Giesen Chapter No. 8.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Kenneth was born on June 24, 1918, in Alexander, the son of Bernald O and Neva (Oler) Kinseth. He graduated from Alexander High School in 1936 and he attended Iowa State University for a short period of time.

He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. After his service he was (civilian) superintendent of the Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

He was united in marriage to Cyrena K. DeWaard on March 25, 1953, in Kanawha.

He lived in the Belmond area from his birth in 1918 until 1966, except for his education and military service.

Kenneth was a successful businessman who had owned and operated several businesses throughout his life. He started Kinseth Plumbing & Heating in Belmond and developed it into a large mechanical contracting firm. He developed several hotels. One of his most notable developments was the Cliff House of Decorah, which he sold in 1976.

He moved his family to Decorah in 1966 and sold the plumbing business to his brothers in that same year. He was founder of the Kinseth Hospitality Companies that has grown to operate several hotels and restaurants throughout the Midwest. Kenneth also developed and operated apartments, houses and golf courses.

He was a member of the Elk's Club, Oneota Golf and County Club and Silver Crest Golf and Country Club in Decorah.

He is survived by his wife, Cyrena; one daughter, Linda Skinner and her husband, Keith, of Council Bluffs, and their children, Aaron Mailey, Jason Mailey, Shana Young and Laura Mailey; three sons, Leslie Kinseth and his wife, Alisa, of Clear Lake and their daughter, Ashley Kinseth, Bruce Kinseth and his wife, Lisa, of Coralville, and their children, Ben Kinseth, Peter Kinseth and Kelly Kinseth, and Gary Kinseth and his wife, Darla, of Mason City and their children, Tristan and Kyra Kinseth; a very special person, like a son who lived with the Kinseth family for about three years, Jack "In" Won (Tammy), of LaHabra, Calif.; three brothers, Roland Kinseth and his wife, Marion, Roger Kinseth, and Larry Kinseth and his wife, Sherri, all of Belmond; three sisters, Maxine Dorr and Avon Armour, both of Belmond, and Artie Buchanan, of Mason City.

HAROLD EDWIN DOESCHER

MASON CITY - Edwin Doescher, 73, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the United Methodist Church of Rudd with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy. 18 W., Mason City. The body has been cremated.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in his name.

Harold was born on Dec. 13, 1927, in Mason City, the son of Edwin and Gertrude (Cordes ) Doescher. He attended and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1945.

Harold married Thelma Renner on Dec. 13, 1946, in Klemme. They lived south of Mason City and then moved to Rural Rudd and farmed for 17 years. In 1970 they moved to Mason City and he sold insurance and helped with home day care.

They moved to Waterville, Minn., in 1979, where Harold worked at a factory. In 1989 he moved to Charles City and lived there until ill health. He had been residing at Good Shepherd since November 1999.

Harold's interests included fishing and hunting. He was very dedicated to his AA meetings. Harold was a member of the Rudd United Methodist Church.

Harold is survived by his wife, Thelma Doescher, of Mason City; one daughter, Linda Mau and her husband, Randy, of rural Mason City; three sons, Dennis Doescher, of Osage, David Doescher and his wife, Amanda, of Mason City, and Doug Doescher and his wife, Shelly, of North Mankato, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Barbara Mau and her companion, Jay Funk, Melissa Mau, Amy Monahan and her husband, Troy, Brandi and Brooke Doescher, Randi Kay and Derek Doescher; three great-grandchildren, Jordon Monahan, Troy Monahan III and LeAnna Funk; two sisters, Sharon Wendel and her husband, Tom, of Waterloo, and Margaret Loomer, of Iowa City.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents.

MASON CITY - Charles B. Moen, 76, of 319 S. Maryland Ave. died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A Celebration of Charles' Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson and the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Charles B. Moen was born July 25, 1924, in Minneapolis, the son of Gerhardt and Mildred I. (Bailer) Moen. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Minneapolis, and attended St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as well as the Korean Conflict, during which he received the Purple Heart.

Charles married Nancy B. Salmi on July 23, 1955, in Superior, Wis. Charles was superintendent for Merchantile Stores in Duluth, Minn., and Seattle, Wash. He also served as purchasing assistant for General Mills in Minneapolis and was purchasing agent for Glenwood Hills Hospital in Minneapolis for 10 years.

In 1967 he accepted a purchasing position with Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla. In 1968 he moved to Mason City to become purchasing agent at Mercy Hospital. He was director of purchasing for Mercy for 15 years, retiring in 1983.

Charles was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, National Association of Hospitals Purchasing Materials Management and International Materials Management Society. He received an award from the American Hospital Supply Co. for "Innovation in Hospital Data Interface."

Charles is survived by his wife, Nancy B. Moen, of Mason City; daughter, Robyn Lynn Kramer and her husband, Kevin, of Clear Lake; son, Frank G. Moen, of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandson, Kenneth "K.C." Kramer, of Clear Lake; granddaughter, Jade E. Moen, of Minneapolis, Minn.; former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Babcock and husband, David, of Minneapolis, Minn.

ALEXANDER -On April 21, 2001, James Leland McVey Jr. of Alexander died of pancreatic cancer at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond.

James, the son of James L. and Mary A. (Mamie) Fulton McVey, was born on Feb. 15, 1932, in Fort Dodge.

He is survived by his children, James McVey, of San Diego, Calif., Brian McVey and his wife, Bobbi, of Belmond, Denise Scheller and her husband, Jim, of Windsor, Colo., Stacey McVey, of Des Moines, and Michael McVey, of Baltimore, Md.; former wife, Maxine; his grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, Adam and Kaylie; and by a half sister, Jeananne, and his sister, Patty.

A Memorial Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond.
