LINDA K. SUTTER OLSON

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Linda K. Sutter Olson passed away on Sunday evening (May 13, 2001) after an extended illness. She was born March 5, 1944, to the late Leo and Judith Welsh. After Linda's father passed away, her mother married Nyals Sutter, who adopted Linda. She grew up in Fertile and Latimer, Iowa.

After high school, she attended business college in Des Moines. In the mid 1960s she moved to Springfield, Mo., and attended Bill Brittons Bible College. During the late 1960s Linda moved to northern Minnesota and taught at a Bible school. She also worked for the Billy Graham Association as a youth minister.

During 1973 God called Linda to the ministry (Joyful Sounds Ministry) in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. In 1983, after being ordained by the Assemblies of God organization, Linda became a missionary. Linda ministered in Russia, Albania, India, Eastern Europe, China and the Philippines. She also lived in Switzerland for three years. After her return to Wisconsin, she married Pastor Robert W. Olson in 1994. Together they pastored the River of Life Church on Arthur Avenue in Oshkosh.

She is survived by her husband, Pastor Robert Olson, of Oshkosh, Wis.; a brother, Gary (Berleen) Sutter, of Hillsboro, Mo.; and a sister, Lana K. Schaefer, of Mason City. She also had five stepchildren, Larry (Anna Mae) Olson, of Oshkosh, Wis., Lorena Thomas, of St. Paul, Minn., Cindy Rice, of Manitowoc, Wis., Steve (Linda) Olson, of Oshkosh, and Amy (Doug) Eggers, of Menasha, Wis.; two nieces, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and many friends around the world.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at New Life Community Church, 333 S. Washburn St. in Oshkosh. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.

Family and friends may call at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 300 N. Eagle Street, Oshkosh, on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8:00 p.m. and also on Thursday at the church from noon until the hour of service.

MASON CITY - Norah "Crettia" L. Hericks, 80, of 702 Third St. N.E., died Sunday (May 13, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Riverside Church, 527 N. Kentucky Ave., with the Rev. Spencer Thury officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Norah L. Hericks was born March 25, 1921, in Mason City, the daughter of William and Mary (Cole) Lee. She was a lifelong resident of the Mason City area.

She enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, quilting - which she taught to her church friends - and her conversations with her bird, Georgie.

Norah is survived by two daughters, Judith Stokes and husband, Jerry, of Mason City, and Shirley Jean Marshall and husband, Mike, of Nora Springs; grandchildren, Jeffry Stokes and wife, Jo, of Northwood, Jason Stokes and wife, Stacie, of Rockford, Justin Stokes, U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, Kevin Gast and wife, Brenda, of Sheffield, and James Gast, of Nora Springs; great-grandchildren, Jesse and Jacob Stokes and Chelsea and Logan Gast; special great-grandson, Shane Uker; one brother, Robert Lee and wife, Helen, of Mason City; and special friends, Rosie and Shirley.

Norah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clemons; sister, Bette Harris; and brother, Bill Lee.

A special thank you to everyone who remembered Mom on her 80th birthday. Due to her illness, she was unable to acknowledge the many cards and gifts.

DONALD DARYL 'WIG' KUBICEK

OSAGE - Donald Daryl "Wig" Kubicek, 75, died Wednesday (May 16, 2001) at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Donald was born on a farm near McIntire on Nov. 5, 1925, the fifth child of John J. and Mary (Bolger) Kubicek. He attended school at Osage and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1944. He served aboard the U.S.S. Boston, a light cruiser, in the Pacific and was honorably discharged in February of 1946.

On Aug. 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marvel Jane Rowe at Osage Lutheran Church by the Rev. T. P. Solem. To this union were born two children, Dennis Daryl and Kathy Jane. Donald and his wife resided in Osage their entire married life and "Wig" was employed by Carl Hartwig on his dairy farm, Seeber Sand and Gravel, Kark Rendering Company, and Decklever Sand and Gravel. In 1960 he was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation until his retirement in November of 1987.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, a long-time member of the Osage American Legion Post 278, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7920, and a member of the Charles City Moose Lodge.

"Wig" enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting until his health deteriorated. He had Parkinson's Disease for 17 years.

"Wig" is survived by his wife, Marvel, of Osage; his son, Dennis Kubicek and his wife, Theresa, of Glendale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Kelly John Kubicek, of Glendale, Ariz., and Amy Jane Kubicek, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one great-grandson, Vincent Thomas Jr., of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Dale (Pete) Kubicek and his wife, Dona, of Osage; two sisters, Olive Ellis, of Charles City, and Bonnie Reich, of Mason City; two brothers-in-law, Lester Rowe and his wife, Dallas, of Osage, and Alan Rowe and his wife, Phyllis, of Port Orchard, Wash.; and two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Rowe, of Cedar Rapids, and Ruth Kubicek, of Osage.

"Wig" was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Kathy in 1975; one sister, Helen, in 1918; two brothers, Charles (Sonny) Kubicek in 1960 and Roger (Nick) Kubicek in 1998.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Osage American Legion Post 278 and the Osage VFW Post 7920.

ANNA M. DORSEY

KENSETT - Anna M. Dorsey, 81, of Kensett died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway St., in Manly, with Father Thomas McAndrew officiating.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., in Manly, with a scripture service at 7 p.m.

Anna Marie Dorsey was born on Nov. 27, 1919, at Swaledale, the daughter of James and Kathryn (Dunn) Dorsey. She attended and graduated from Swaledale High School in 1933. She went on to attend Hamilton College.

Anna worked as a secretary for attorney Arnie Dunn in Mason City shortly after college, and in August 1943 she enlisted in the United States Army. Anna was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II. During the war she served in New Guinea, and she was awarded the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1945, Anna was honorably discharged from active service in the military.

Soon after, Anna began working as a secretary in Knoxville, Iowa, then she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she was a medical secretary for a number of years. Most recently, Anna served as an administrative assistant for the city of Vernon, Calif. After retirement in 1981 Anna moved back to North Iowa where she spent much time enjoying the outdoors.

She loved flowers, gardening and bird watching, along with being an avid reader. Anna was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Marilyn Dorsey, of Kensett; one niece, Melly Dorsey, of Kensett; three nephews, James "Joe" Dorsey of Manly, Leo Dorsey and his wife, Kelli, of Northwood, and Shawn Dorsey and his wife, Cheryl, of Shreveport, La.; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James "Mike" Dorsey; and one brother, James Dorsey.

LAKE MILLS - Lester A. Flo, 82, of Lake Mills, died Monday (May 14, 2001) at his home in Lake Mills.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will take place at the Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Lester Aldo Flo, son of Joe and Madeline (Anderson) Flo, was born May 22, 1918, in Lake Mills. He was baptized at Walters, Minn., and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bricelyn, Minn.

He was married to Anna Askildson on Nov. 23, 1937. During his working years he did trucking, was a farmer, and for 32 years he owned a farm drainage business.

Lester was a special person, not only to his family, but to others as well. He always put family and friends before his own needs, and took a sincere interest in people's lives. He was a kind and considerate man, a true gentleman, who sincerely loved people.

He was a very caring person who loved kids and loved to laugh, and he enjoyed playing jokes on his many friends and relatives. He was always willing to give a helping hand when needed and rarely complained about anything. Lester always liked saying, "Always remember you have two hands, one to help yourself, and one to help others." And he was always there to help others. He will be missed by all.

RUTH B. CONLEY

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Ruth B. Conley, (nee Bliss) was born in Britt, Iowa, on Dec. 9, 1912. She entered Eternal Life on Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at the age of 88 years. She was a resident of St. John's Home in Milwaukee, Wis. She was the beloved wife of the late M. Jay Conley; loving mother of Thomas (Roberta) and Daniel (Christine) Conley; proud grandmother of Robert, Tina, Tracy, and Seamus (Nann); and great-grandmother of Adam. She is survived by other relatives and dear friends.

Ruth was a retired employee of the Milwaukee County Blood Donor Center at County General. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an active volunteer with St. Mary's Hospital Build.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at St. Robert Catholic Church, 2224 East Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wis., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m.

OLGA M. HALVERSON

MASON CITY - Olga M. Halverson, 90, of 302 Second St. N.E. died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. James Norem, formerly of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and the Rev. Marshall Hahn, of Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf, officiating. Interment will be in Brush Point Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral Home and until time of service on Friday.

Olga M. Halverson was born on June 25, 1910, in Fertile, Iowa, the daughter of Christ and Tilda (Strommen) Benson. She graduated from Fertile High School. She furthered her education at the Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She graduated after one year with a degree in education. She worked as a teacher in the rural schools in the Fertile area for eight years.

She was united in marriage to Lewis Halverson on June 25, 1940, in Fertile. They made their home in St. Olaf for many years. She recently moved to Mason City. While living in St. Olaf she was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church where she enjoyed volunteering for many church activities.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and traveling.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Kathleen O. Lorz, of Fargo, N.D.; grandson, Leon Lorz and wife, Debbie, of Dickinson, N.D.; granddaughter, Debbie Rawley and husband, Craig, of Portland, Ore.; grandson, Steven Lorz and wife, Peggy, of Fargo, N.D.; six great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Fran Benson, of Joice; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis, on Jan. 6, 1961; four sisters, Agnes Bergan, Berna Olson, Thelma Davis and Esther Carr; and one brother, Stanton Benson.

DUANE E. CRAIG

NORA SPRINGS - Duane E. Craig, 43, of 115 Second St. N.W., Nora Springs, died Wednesday (May 16, 2001) from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen officiating. Interment will follow at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

Duane was born June 26, 1957, in Mason City, the son of Richard and Donna (Piper) Craig. He attended Mason City High School and later graduated from Kirkwood College.

Duane was united in marriage to Sheila Jacobsen on June 27, 1987, in Nora Springs.

He worked as a mechanic at his home all of his life and has worked the past 14 years as a welder at Wesam Inc. in Floyd.

Duane enjoyed working with his tools, fixing and riding motorcycles and watching his kids play sports. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone.

HERBERT ERNEST HAGEN

NORTHWOOD - Herbert Ernest Hagen, 79, of Northwood died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Gary Johnson and the Rev. James Cherry officiating. Burial will be in the Sion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Herbert Ernest Hagen was born July 16, 1921, in rural Kensett, the son of Lauritz and Henneritta (Bergan) Hagen. He was baptized at Sion Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in LeRoy, Minn. He attended schools in Worth County and LeRoy, Minn.

Herbert worked on farms until he was called into the U.S. Army in December of 1942. On April 16, 1946, he was discharged from the Army and was assigned to the Reserves. In August of 1950 (Korean War) he was called back and was assigned to the Army Air Force for one year.

For several years he worked for the Cool Springs Canning Co. in Lake Mills.

Herbert married Bonnie Floy on March 27, 1956, adopting her two daughters, Peggy and Margaret. Later, Dawn and Ruth were born to complete the family. They lived on the same farm for 42 years. Herbert worked part time at the American Crystal Sugar Beet Co. for 15 years. He then continued working for neighbors and relatives until he retired.

On June 1, 1998, they moved to their home in Northwood. After surgery (July 29, 1999) he was moved to the Lutheran Retirement Home. He enjoyed taking part in many activities, especially music, poetry class and ceramic painting. He looked forward to the day when the Men's Club met for Bible study, donuts and fellowship.

Herbert was a faithful member of Sion Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. He was a member of the American Legion in Lake Mills for 53 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Hagen, of Northwood; daughters, Dawn Millard and her husband, Daniel, of Fertile, Ruth Hagen, of Lake Mills, Peggy Altringer and her husband, Michael, of Carver, Minn. and Margaret Harris and her husband, Jack, of Slater; grandchildren, Chad, Jodi and Jennifer Harris, of Slater, and Tara and Ivy Millard, of Fertile; brothers, Lawrence Hagen and his wife, Seydell, of Thornton, and Richard Hagen and his wife, Judy, of Albert Lea, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and great uncle, Carl Hagen, of Lake Mills.

ST. ANSGAR - Dorothy L. Larson, 90, of St. Ansgar died on Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Carpenter.

Dorothy was born Jan. 1, 1911, to Earnest and Thea (Hermanson) Collins in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa. She was baptized in March of 1911 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church by the Rev. M.E. Waldeland. When she was six months old they moved to a homestead near Devon, Mont. They lived there seven years, moving back to Northwood for one year, then moving to a farm on the state line, north of Meltonville.

She attended school in Otranto, and graduated from high school with honors in 1929. Her classmates remain very dear to her. She was confirmed in 1926 by the Rev. O.M. Langehough in the Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn.

She was married on Feb. 5, 1930, to Leonard R. Larson at her parents' home, by the Rev. A. C. Korsrud, pastor of their London, Minn., church.

They farmed on the A. Z. VanCamp farm for eight years, then moved to Carpenter. She was active in her husband's Phillips 66 Oil business and Custom truck box building. She was city clerk of Carpenter for 34 years and active in other community organizations. In 1982 and again in 1995, she received Merit awards from the Community Club for her dedicated contributions.

She was a charter member of the Friendship Club, and a faithful member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; her only sister, Amy Kruse; one granddaughter, Marsha Larson; and one grandson, Daniel Davis.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Roger and wife, Beverly, of Swaledale; daughter, Carolyn and husband, Dennis Davis, of Kensett; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Hancock, Minn., the daughter of John William and Eda Marie (Knutson) Parker. She graduated from Hancock High School and then graduated from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn..

Margaret married Roland Hier on July 31, 1938, in rural Hancock, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis where she worked as an RN at Northwestern Hospital in surgery. They moved to Neosho, Mo.

In 1948 they moved to Sleepy Eye, Minn., where they owned and operated a Super Value Grocery until 1964. They then moved back to Minneapolis where she worked for Northwestern Hospital in the surgery unit.

After retiring in 1978 they moved to Apache Junction, Ariz., where they resided until 1998 when they moved to the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

Margaret enjoyed sewing, watching the Lawrence Welk Show, gardening, playing cards and playing the board game "Trouble" with her husband and grandchildren. She was a very active member in the United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.

Mildred Leona Coffman was born Nov. 20, 1909, in rural Plainfield, a daughter of William and Carrie (Potter) Coffman, and died Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

She received her education and graduated from the Plainfield High School in 1927 and attended what was then Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school in Spencer and Bremer County.

On Jan. 1, 1930, she was united in marriage to Clarence Eliasen at the parsonage in Plainfield. They farmed in the Plainfield and Greene areas until May of 1977. Mildred moved into Greene in 1980 and into Valley View Apartments in 1992 and later the Liebe Care Center in 1997.

Mildred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, and a member of the UPW and sewing circle. Her interests included being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking bus trips with her friends, the piano and gardening.

Marcile married Donald Angell at Holy Family Catholic Church on May 13, 1959. They had twins, Gary and Sherry, and a stillborn daughter.

She worked at different businesses including Metal Craft and Angell Fence Co., and was also a homemaker.

Marcile is survived by her husband, Donald, of Mason City; one son, Gary Angell and his wife, Linda, of Mason City; one daughter, Sherry Peterson and her husband, Robert, of Mason City; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Myrle Hall, of Miller, and Shirley Hopkins, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and one brother, Jim Kofoot, of Mason City.

Edythe died on Wednesday (May 16, 2001) at St. John's Lutheran Home at the age of 81.

Edythe was born in Wright, Minn., on Sept. 16, 1919, the daughter of Clarence and Lorinda (Whittem) Ellis. She attended rural grade school at Round Prairie and was a 1939 graduate of Albert Lea High School.

In 1940 Edythe was married to Delmar Jensen and later to Carlyle Hoverson. She had worked for Green Giant, Land O' Lakes and as a tailor for Skinner Chamberlain. As a small child, Edythe had been placed in an orphanage in Owatonna, Minn., and as a result had a deep concern for the welfare of children. She was a contributor to Covenant House, a home for neglected children in New York City.

Edythe had been a 4-H leader in Freeborn County for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning and making Barbie Doll clothing.

Edythe is survived by five children, Arthur "Allen" Jensen, of Albert Lea, Minn., Mary Lou Jackson, of Mason City, Patricia Rumeliote, of Mason City, Becky Stepp and her husband, Ron, of Huntersville, N.C., DeAnna French, of River Falls, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Teresa (Matt) Young, of Mound, Minn., Robert (Kristi) Jackson, of Watertown, Minn., Mike (Cindy) Rumeliote, of Mason City, Michelle (Bob) Nuehring, of Rockwell, Mark, Matthew and Monty Rumeliote, of Mason City, and Amanda French, of River Falls, Wis.; seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Sabrina and Paige Young, Robert and Alison Jackson, Taylor and Thomas Nuehring; one brother, Ronald Ellis, of Columbia Heights, Minn.; one half sister, Kathryn Neme, of Duluth, Minn.; brother-in-law, Russell Johnson, of Duluth, Minn.

ROY L. PAINE

NORA SPRINGS - Roy L. Paine, 73, formerly of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) in Norco, La.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco, with burial being in St. John Memorial Cemetery in LaPlace, La.

He received his education in Nora Springs, graduating in 1944. He enlisted in the Navy, achieving the rank of Seaman First Class serving on the USS Fulton from July of 1945 to October of 1947. Another achievement was being inducted into the River City Softball Hall of Fame in 1987.

He worked many years at Deckers in Mason City before retiring.

He was an avid golfer in his younger years and enjoyed sports. He loved woodworking and made many pieces that were enjoyed by all.

Roy married Josephine Dufresne, of Norco, in February of 1995. He had lived in Norco since.

He is survived by his wife, Josie; his five daughters, Debbie Nehls and her husband, Dennis, of Denver, Iowa, Cindy Rasmus and her husband, Jerry, of Destrehan, La., Barb Mahnesmith and her husband, Loren, of Nora Springs, Julie Underriner and her husband, David, of St. Ansgar, and Susan Wilde and her husband, Scott, of Grafton; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four stepchildren and 11 stepgrandchildren, all of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alma (Clough) Paine Sr.; four sisters, Mina, Doris, Florence and Effie; four brothers, Bert, Clarence (Punk), Paul and Bill; and his beloved dog, HyDee.

MANLY - Ernest W. Bonker, 94, of Mason City, formerly of Manly, died Wednesday (May 16, 2001) at USA Healthcare Center in Mason City.

Ernest William Bonker was born on Jan. 26, 1907, in Worth County, the son of Herman and Margaret (Bierbaum) Bonker. He attended country schools in Worth County. Ernest was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, where he was the last surviving charter member.

On Feb. 6, 1935, Ernest was united in marriage with Gertie M. Gottschalk at Manly. The couple made their home in Worth County.

Early on they farmed in rural Manly, and, in later years, they moved to Kensett where Ernest was the custodian at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Ernest and Gertie were married for 57 wonderful years when she passed away in 1993.

Ernest was truly an outdoorsman. He loved nature and fishing, but most importantly, farming was his life. Even in recent years, Ernest enjoyed spending time taking rides in the car with family. He would spend hours admiring others' gardens, lawns, and crops.

Ernest was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Margaret Fisher and her husband, Richard, of Mason City, and Pearl Buechele and her husband, Leland, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gertie; two sisters, Lydia Johnson, and Alvina Foley; and two brothers, Arthur Bonker, and a brother in infancy.

JOYCE NELSON

BRITT - "Beatrice" Joyce Nelson, 75, of Britt, passed away Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

The funeral for Joyce Nelson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Britt, with Helen R. McLaughlin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Beatrice Joyce Nelson, the daughter of Charles and Beatrice (Hancock) Beasley, was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Reading, England. She grew up in England where she received her education.

During the war years, Joyce met Raymond Nelson at her mother's tea shop in England. The couple was united in marriage on Oct. 27, 1945, at St. Mary's Butts Cathedral in England. Joyce arrived in the United States in April of 1946, and the couple has since resided in Britt.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her dogs and her cats. She loved letter writing, needlepoint and her flower garden.

Joyce was a member of the Britt United Congregational Church where she sang in the church choir. She participated in the Hancock County Little Theater productions and Christmas Choir, and the North Iowa Choral Society. Joyce was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Raymond, of Britt; four daughters, Ripple and her husband, Keith Van Engen, of Des Moines, Ava Nelson, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Lissa and her husband, Michael Honken, of Waukee, and Rita and her husband, Steven Fett, of Wesley; four granddaughters, and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Charles Raymond; and a twin brother in infancy.

MICHAEL 'RED BEARD' MCCLINTOCK

MASON CITY - Michael "Red Beard" McClintock, 50, of 616 Eighth St. S.W. Apt. 1, died Wednesday (May 16, 2001) at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minn.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the First Covenant Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Kathy Graves, chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, and the Rev. Don Balmer, chaplain of the Canadian Pacific Railroad, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Michael "Red Beard" McClintock was born on Dec. 31, 1950, in Omaha, Neb., the son of John Wayne and Delores (Jones) McClintock. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School.
He worked for the Sioux City Foundry for 10 years. He also worked for IBP while living in Sioux City. In 1989 he moved to Mason City. While living in Mason City he worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Canadian Pacific Railroad. He looked forward to going to work at the railroad each and every day.
Michael was an avid sports fan. He was a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees.
Those left to cherish his memory include sons, Shane McClintock and wife, Janelle, of Mason City, and Joel McClintock, of Mason City; daughter, Michelle; two grandchildren, Tyler and Mason McClintock, of Mason City; brother, Terry McClintock, of California; sisters, Gloria Walsted and husband, Paul, of Sioux City, and Linda Joyner and husband, A.J., of St. Cloud, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and three special friends, Maggie Adams, Terry Coe and Dale Olson.

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Doris L. Gourley, 73, of Columbia Heights, Minn., died on Wednesday (May 16, 2001) at her home in Columbia Heights.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Werness Brothers Funeral Chapel, 3500 W. 50th St. in Minneapolis. Private interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Doris L. Gourley was born on Nov. 7, 1927, in Mason City, to Elmer H. and Florence (Hollenbeck) DeWitt.
She was in retail sales. She had been formerly employed at Unisys and Herberger's.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; sisters, Iris, Clarice and Joyce; a brother, Robert; and a granddaughter, Katelyn.
She is survived by daughters, Debra (Brian) Young, and Cindy (Bernie) Krzykwa; son, Kelley (Patty); grandchildren, Adam and Aaron Young, Jennifer Krzykwa, and Jessica and Michael Gourley; sister, Blanche Cline; brothers, Kenneth and Francis DeWitt.

MASON CITY - Mervin B. Teig, 85, of 336 21st Street S.W., died Friday (May 18, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Douglas Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with full military rites by the Iowa Army Nation Guard.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Mervin B. Teig was born Feb. 15, 1916, in Story County, the son of Martin and Emma Teig. He graduated from Stanhope Iowa Consolidated School and later graduated from business school in Chillicothe, Mo.

He lived on the family farm near Stanhope where he enjoyed raising and exhibiting Chester White hogs. He exhibited the hogs at local, state and international fairs.

He entered the United States Army at the Fort Des Moines Induction Center where he served as an induction clerk in 1941 until receiving a commission as Second Lieutenant from Fort Benning, Ga., in 1943. He was assigned to the 104th Infantry Division until the end of the war in 1945. During his career in the Army, he served as a Platoon Leader and Company Commander through the European Campaign in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Cluster, French Croix de Guerre, Normandy Invasion Medal, Army Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European Service Ribbon with three Battle Stars.

Mervin was united in marriage to Crystal Brownlee in 1942 at the First United Methodist Church in Bethany, Mo. Three daughters were born to this union. Two of the girls died in infancy and their daughter, Kathy, passed away in 1998 at 50 years of age.

He worked for 16 years with Standard Oil Company as department head in division office and as a traveling internal auditor. He also worked for 15 years with Wallace Holland Kastler Schmitz Consulting Firm as business manger.

He was proud to have partnered with Holland and Teig in developing Fair Meadows Subdivision in Mason City. He and Crystal developed Crystal Heights Addition in Ventura. He retired in 1978.

Mervin was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He also served on many local boards and commissions as president and board member. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, fishing and traveling with his wife.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Crystal Teig, Mason City; grandchildren, Jennifer Deziel of Des Moines and Brian Deziel and his wife, Mary, of Houston, Texas; a step-granddaughter, Susan Heft of Ames; a brother, Teilford Teig and his wife, Wilda, of Stanhope; a son-in-law, Glen Deziel of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Elice, Sharon and Kathy; and brothers, Norman, Everett and Wendel.

GERALD EUGENE 'GABBY' NETTLETON

GREENE - A funeral Mass for Gerald Eugene ''Gabby'' Nettleton, 72, of 1 High School Blvd., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene. A scriptural wake service will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary service.

Gerald Eugene Nettleton was born April 5, 1929, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County, a son of Louis and Katherine (Loughren) Nettleton, and died Friday (May 18, 2001) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City after suffering a heart attack at his home.

He received his education in the Greene public schools, graduating in 1947. While in high school, he excelled as a pitcher on the school's baseball team. In later years he went on to manage several local teams.

Gabby attended the Reisch World Wide Auction College in Mason City, graduating in 1952. During this time he also worked as an independent insurance agent in the Greene area.

On Nov. 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Joan Marzen at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty. They made their home in Greene. He later sold cars for Harrison's Charles City Motors. In 1968 he became employed by the State of Iowa as manager of the State Liquor Store in Greene. Upon its closing, he worked for the Iowa Lottery Commission until his retirement in 1992.

His interests included trout fishing in Northeast Iowa, maintaining his trailer at Dorchester, playing golf and being an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Gabby was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene and served on the church board of education. He was a former member of the Moose and the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered as one who was proud of his Irish ancestry and of being a Democrat.

Gabby will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Joan, of Greene; two daughters, Brenda and her husband, Jon Heuer, of Allison, and Kathy Nettleton of Des Moines; four sons and their spouses, Mike and Jean Nettleton of Oakdale, Minn., Brian and Teresa Nettleton of Joice, Pat and Susie Nettleton of St. Ansgar and Tom Nettleton of Greene; eight grandchildren, Ethan, Rebecca, Rachel, Stephanie, Jonathon, Cassie, Brandon and Nicholas; three sisters and their spouses, Marge and Jim Mayer, Jim and Eleanor Hebert, both of Marion, and Mary Ann and Jack Aurand of Maitland, Fla.; two brothers and their spouses, J. Clair and Evalyn Nettleton and Jim and Marilyn Nettleton, both of Greene; and his aunt, Ceil Maxson of Greene.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William; and an infant sister, Mary Aileen.

RUTH C. 'BLISSIE' CONLEY

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Ruth C. "Blissie" Conley, (nee Bliss) was born in Britt, Iowa, on Dec. 9, 1912. She entered Eternal Life on Tuesday (May 15, 2001) at the age of 88 years. She was a resident of St. John's Home in Milwaukee, Wis. She was the beloved wife of the late M. Jay Conley; loving mother of Thomas (Roberta) and Daniel (Christine) Conley; proud grandmother of Robert, Tina, Tracy, and Seamus (Nann); and great-grandmother of Adam. She is survived by other relatives and dear friends.

Ruth was a retired employee of the Milwaukee County Blood Donor Center at County General. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an active volunteer with St. Mary's Hospital Build.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at St. Robert Catholic Church, 2224 East Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wis., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m.

Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
