CORWITH - Dennis Benedict Foley, 63, of Corwith, died Saturday (March 10, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Corwith, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be in the Corwith Cemetery.

ST. ANSGAR - Dr. E.K. Allen, 92, of St. Ansgar, died Friday (March 9, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

LEIGHTON 'LEE' SEVERSON JR.

NORTHWOOD - Leighton "Lee" Ellsworth Severson Jr., 59, of Northwood, died Friday (March 9, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer and the Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services on Monday at the church.

The family of Leighton "Lee" Ellsworth Severson Jr. has requested that memorial contributions be made in his memory.

Leighton "Lee" Ellsworth Severson Jr. was born on Aug. 1, 1941, in Northwood, the son of Leighton and Mabel (Ellingson) Severson. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

He attended and received his education in the Northwood Community School system, graduating from Northwood High School in 1959. He also attended and graduated with a degree in accounting from Hamilton Business College in Mason City. After completing his schooling he started working for Great Plains in Northwood and also worked for the City of Northwood as superintendent of the public works department for 10 years. He owned and operated Lee's Drive Inn in Northwood, before moving to rural Northwood and farming on the Severson Homestead before moving back to Northwood and working for Truman Knudtson at the Northwood Lumber Co., before purchasing it in 1993.

He was a member and leader of 4-H club, volunteer fireman, Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, and was on a bowling league, all in Northwood, and was an all-around sports enthusiast.

Lee was a member of the Army National Guard in Mason City, and the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, where he was a former Sunday school teacher.

Family was very important to Lee as he followed his children throughout their sports activities.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marilyn Severson, of Northwood; his mother, Mabel Severson; four children, Randy Severson and his wife, Nancy, of Grafton, Scott Severson and his wife, Tammy, of Northwood, Ryan Severson and his wife, Jeri, of Northwood, and Mark Severson, of Northwood; five grandchildren, Hailee, Colby, Lauren, Brandon and Blake Severson; a brother, Clair Severson and his wife, Linda, of Hastings, Minn.; two sisters, Myra Harris and her husband, Lonnie, of Northwood, and Judith Johnson, of Stewartville, Minn.; father and mother-in-law, Gilman and Mayvis Johnson, of Northwood; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Jane and Roger Odegaard; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

His father, Leighton Severson Sr. preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1999.

EDYTHE H. DAVIS

CHARLES CITY - Edythe H. Davis, 89, of 225 W. Fourth St., Miller, S.D., formerly of Bradford, Mason City and Charles City, Los Angeles and Minneapolis, died Friday (March 9, 2001) at the Iland County Memorial Hospital, Miller, following a prolonged illness.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The Rev. Solomon Odom, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Floyd, will officiate. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Monday.

DENNIS B. FOLEY

CORWITH - Dennis Benedict Foley was born June 16, 1937, in Thor, Iowa, son of Harry and Elizabeth (Mettile) Foley. Dennis grew up in Corwith and graduated from Corwith High School in 1955.

Dennis had a great love for his country. He served in the United States Army for 30 years, 21 of those years overseas, until retiring in 1986. Dennis was stationed one tour in Korea and two combat tours in Vietnam. He served as an Engineer and a Drill Sergeant and was a decorated hero receiving the Bronze Star as his highest award.

Dennis moved back to Corwith in 1994. He loved old cars, especially Buick's. He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting old clocks and pocket watches. He loved playing pool, watching TV game shows, and gardening, especially raising tomatoes.

Dennis B. Foley died Saturday (March 10, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, at the age of 63.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Corwith with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Corwith.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Corwith with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Tracie Foley, Corwith; four children, David Foley, Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Jim Foley, Heidelberg, Germany, Joe Foley, Biloxi, Miss., and Shawn Foley, Corwith; two step-children, Phillip and Kimberly; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah, Angel, Barry, Dennis, Britany, Michael, and Alex; two sisters, Pat Boysen, Grand Island, Neb., and Mary Schutjer, Wesley; one brother, Bud Foley, Corwith; his loving dog, Stratford on Avon "Ford"; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Michael Foley.

MASON CITY - Bonnie V. Young, 57, of 1534 N. Adams Ave., died Saturday (March 10, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Clifford Close of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Bonnie was born March 28, 1943 in Charles City, the daughter of Willard and Marie (Meyer) Ayers. She grew up in Charles City, attending Charles City Public Schools, before moving to Mason City.

Bonnie was a homemaker who enjoyed puzzles, fishing, singing, listening to country music, and taking care of her pet cats.

Bonnie is survived by three sons, Jerry Ayers, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michael Young and Jonathan Quinones, both of Mason City; two brothers, Gerald Ayers, of Charles City and David Ayers, of Ankeny; one sister-in-law, Eva Craig, one niece, Mary Craig, and her best friend, Carolyn York, all of Mason City.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

JAMES L. STEVENSON JR.

MASON CITY - James L. Stevenson Jr., 21, of 521 S. Carolina Ave., died Sunday (March 11, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will greet friends and relatives one hour before the service at the church.

James was born Feb. 23, 1980 in Camp LeJeune, N.C. the son of James L. and Louise (Shinn) Stevenson. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1999.

James worked for Subway, Kraft Foods and then the Globe Gazette.

James enjoyed playing video games, fishing, hanging out with his friends, playing football, basketball, watching professional wrestling and was a big fan of the Baltimore Ravens and loved his cat Tigger.

James is survived by his parents, James and Louise Stevenson, of Mason City; two brothers, David John Christensen and his wife Robin, of Forest City, and their three children, Danny Hunn, of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Taylor Hunn and Christina Christensen, both of Forest City, and Steven Christensen and his wife, Meredith, of Emmetsburg, and their two children, Lindsey and Delaney Churchill; and his sister, Nadene Stevenson, of Mason City; aunts and uncles, Harriett and Gary Gilbert, of Stuart, Emma and Tim Gelner, of Mason City, Brice Stevenson, of Mason City, Kay and David Dietz, of Forest City, Gail Stevenson, of Mason City, and Patricia Stevenson, of Mason City, and one great aunt, Luella Dolter, of Mason City.

SELMA GEFFERT

ST. ANSGAR - Selma Geffert, 105, died Sunday (March 11, 2001) at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville, with the Rev. Daniel Wee officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Toeterville.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Selma Sophia (Will) Geffert was born Oct. 8, 1895 to Fred and Anna (Galnick) Will in Freeborn County, Shellrock Township. She was baptized Oct. 13, 1895 near Myrtle, Minn. by the Rev. Lebahn. She attended English and Parochial schools and was confirmed in German in a class of 15 on March 15, 1910 by the Rev. Martin Vasseler.

She was married June 4, 1919 to Albert Geffert of Mitchell County, Iowa. They lived on a farm near Toeterville. Two children were born to them, Paul and Arleigh. They moved to St. Ansgar in June of 1954. Albert passed away Aug. 1, 1976. She lived alone in her home until January of 1991.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; daughter, Paula; son, Arleigh; three sisters, Alvina Will, Elise Conrad and Ada Hartwig; four brothers, Martin Will, Herman Will, Clarence Will and Arthur Will; and one great-grandson, Nathan Geffert.

Selma is survived by seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

PEARL WINKLEMAN

BUFFALO CENTER - Pearl Winkleman, 98, of Buffalo Center, went to her Heavenly Home Saturday (March 10, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in Algona.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center, with Pastor Paul Haugen officiating. Burial will be in the Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center. There will be additional visitation one hour before services at the church.

Pearl Loretta (Jensen) Winkleman was born on Feb. 24, 1903 at Ringsted. She was the daughter of Julius and Lena (Jermiason) Jensen. She attended rural school in the Village of Hoprig until moving with her parents to a farm near Buffalo Center in 1915.

Pearl accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized by immersion.

Pearl attended Iowa State Teachers College and was a graduate of the Northwestern Bible School in Minneapolis. She taught in rural schools in Hebron and Lincoln Townships and the fourth grade in Swea City.

Pearl was married to Walter Winkleman on June 16, 1926. They spent their married years farming in the Buffalo Center area. They enjoyed winters in McAllen, Texas and the summers fishing in the North or traveling.

Pearl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center. She was a faithful worker in the Sunday School, Junior Department, Mission Band and the AWANA Club.

Pearl is survived by three children, Lorraine and her husband, Lawrence Pitkin, of Buffalo Center, Dwight Winkleman and his wife, Jan, of Buffalo Center, and Beverly Mawdsley, of Algona; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Jensen and his wife, Eve, of Buffalo Center; one brother-in-law, August Winkleman, of Worthington, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1980; and three sisters, Amelia, Florence, and Helen; and one brother, Carl.

DES MOINES - Doress M. Faupel, 79, of 1222 41st St. in Des Moines, died Saturday (March 10, 2001) at her home.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Memorial Park in Mason City.

Doress was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. She had lived in Des Moines since 1947. Previously she had lived in Illinois and in Mason City.

She had worked as a sales clerk at Younkers for 30 years.

She retired in 1985. She enjoyed photography and reading.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines, American Business Women's Association for 34 years and the Des Moines Garden Club.

She is survived by two brothers, Marvin Faupel, of Altoona, and Ralph Faupel, of Riverside, Calif.; and one sister, Bette Seidler, of Des Moines; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines.

ELMER F. HEUSMAN

OSAGE - Elmer F. Heusman, 84, of Phoenix, Ariz., and formerly of Osage, died Friday (March 9, 2001) at the Immanuel Care Center in Peoria, Ariz.

Elmer was born Nov. 18, 1916 at Osage, the son of John and Willamina (Wilk) Heusman. He attended country school in Mitchell County. Elmer worked the family farm five miles south of Osage. He was first married to Mildred Small. She passed away in March of 1954. In March of 1956 Elmer sold the farm and moved to Osage.

On June 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Thorsen at Osage. Elmer worked at the Osage Greenhouse for awhile, later he went on and opened a Corn Sheller Business in Osage. After a few years he sold that and then he worked for the Mitchell County Road Maintenance, where he operated a road grader and retired in 1982. Between 1982 and 1995 they wintered in Phoenix, Ariz. Marjorie passed away in June of 1995. Elmer moved to Phoenix in October of 1997.

He enjoyed fishing, horseshoes and playing games with his grandchildren.

The family asked that memorials be made in Elmer's name to the American Cancer Society or to the Trinity Hospice L.L.C. at 5314 N. 12th St. Suite 202 in Phoenix, Ariz. 85014.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in rural Osage.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

He is survived by one son, Gary E. Heusman and his wife, Judy, of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Julie Diggs, Susan Austin, Laura Kass, and Scott Heusman; and eight great-grandchildren.

MASON CITY - Sally Jane Hamlin, 65, of 417 Third St. S.W. went to be with her Lord Jesus on Monday (March 12, 2001) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Sally was born May 6, 1935 to James and Bessie (Reed) Madison. She was the only daughter of three children. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1954.

She was united in marriage to Donald Jay Hamlin in Albert Lea, Minn.

She was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Mason City, current president of the American Legion Auxiliary-Clausen-Worden Post 101 of Mason City, member of Christian Women's Club of Mason City.

She enjoyed going camping for many years, reading, making crafts, crocheting, making Christmas candy with Don, and putting a smile on the faces of children and adults at the hospital on Christmas morning by being Mrs. Santa Claus with her husband as Santa Claus.

Sally dearly loved spending time with her family from the youngest to the oldest and all those in between, they were second only to Lord Jesus Christ. She had many extended family, but she always had room at the table or a bed for just one (or two or three) more. She was known as "MaMa Hugs" and always had one to give away.

Enriched and Blessed for sharing her life are her husband, Donald; three daughters, Beverly McCoy and husband, James, Patsy Berneman and husband, Bill, and Brenda Hamlin; one son, Chris and wife, Heather, special dog, Pugsy, all of Mason City. DARLENE M. GROSS


LELAND - Darlene M. Gross was born in Burt, the daughter of John and Meta (Tietz) Gifford. She was the 11th child of 15 children and received her education in Burt.

On Dec. 1, 1957, she was united in marriage to Perry Alfred Gross of Burt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home in Leland where they raised two sons.

Darlene worked at Winnebago Industries for 31 years before retiring in 1996. She was very active in the work of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland with many years of loving service.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enriched the many lives she touched. She will be missed by all who loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Perry Gross, of Leland; son Jeffery, of Forest City, Kevin and wife, Judith, of Forest City; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. GREENE - Funeral services for William F. "Bill" Nordmeyer, 66, of 5 Creve Lane, Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with military rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

William F. Nordmeyer was born June 30, 1934 in Clarksville, a son of Robert Peter and Edna Maria Mina (Schluter) Nordmeyer and died Sunday (March 11, 2001) at the Bates Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark.

Shortly after his birth the family moved to Greene where he attended public schools and graduated from Greene High School in 1953. During and following high school he was employed by Mike Ramker Construction.

On June 26, 1955 he was united in marriage to Kay Delight Shultz at the United Methodist Church in Greene. On Aug. 6, 1956 he was inducted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Following his discharge on May 14, 1958 he returned to work for Ramker Construction where he remained until starting out on his own as a carpenter. His brother, Bob, joined him in partnership in Nordmeyer Construction which continued for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, on Sept. 29, 1984.

He was united in marriage to Jean Marise (Wingate) Wallin on Feb. 26, 1988 at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista. They made their home in Bella Vista since June of 1990. Bill continued to do carpentry work in the Bella Vista area until his retirement last year.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, V.F.W. Post 9063, the Scheneman and Good Guys Golf Groups, and the Masonic Lodge. Bill was a member of the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene and a member and officer of the Round Grove Golf and Country Club in Greene.

Bill will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 13 years, Jean, of Bella Vista, Ark.; three daughters, Kathryn and her husband, Mike McGee, of Rockwell, Julie and her husband, Joel Debner, of Jesup, and Lynne Nordmeyer, of Des Moines; one stepson, Jason and his wife, Donna Wallin, of Omaha, Neb.; one stepdaughter, Janice and her husband, Marvin Bickel, of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Kay and Kelly McGee, Alex, RaeLyn, and Abbie Debner; two stepgrandchildren, Melody and Aaron Wallin; two brothers and their spouses, Robert and Marge Nordmeyer, and Frederick and Jean Nordmeyer, all of Greene; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and his parents.

Bob was born June 10, 1919 in Mason City, the son of Sam and Fleeta (Powell) Crawford. Bob grew up on a farm northeast of Mason City helping his father drive a team of mules which were instrumental in digging basements of many homes in Mason City.

As a young man, Bob was employed by Ideal Sand Co. He graduated from Mason City High School. He then traveled to Rockford, Ill. where he found work driving a truck for a relative, Ray Brentner. While in Rockford, Bob married Hazel Irene Swigart on Feb. 13, 1942.

Bob and Hazel moved back to Mason City for the remainder of their life together. Upon returning to Mason City, Bob was employed by Gamble Robinson as a foreman. He then worked as a private trucker and until his retirement, he worked as foreman at Hebel/Land O' Lakes Fertilizer Co.

Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church.

All throughout Bob's life he had a love for horses, his favorite the well broke ranch horses of the West. He loved a good horse sale with genuine cowboys and the echo of a talented auctioneer. He was one of the last of his kind.

Bob's true love was his family. He loved being a grandfather and in later years relished the time spent with his great-grandchildren giving them pony rides, a drive in the car and putting pieces of candy in a small hand with a smile.

He spent time with his daughter always telling stories about life and laughing out loud with his contagious laugh. Bob enjoyed time with his friends and a hot cup of coffee.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Pamela Anne Mathews and her husband, George, of Mason City; granddaughter, Wendy Ann Meineke and her husband, James, of Nora Springs; two great-grandchildren, Faith Anne, age 4 and Noah James, age 2.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hazel Irene; parents; and one brother, John Crawford.

BELMOND - Harold F. "Sonny" Erdman Sr., 72, of Belmond, passed away Sunday (March 11, 2001) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Harold, the son of Philip and Elizabeth Groh Erdman, was born April 1, 1928, in Klemme, Iowa. He grew up in the Belmond area where he attended country schools and helped on the family farm.

Harold was united in marriage to Charline Miller in 1950.

Sonny served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955.

Sonny was employed 17 years at the Belmond Creamery where he picked up milk and made butter. He was a car salesman for 26 years at McLaughlin Brothers in Belmond. He retired in 1991 and has worked at the bottle redemption center since that time.

Sonny was united in marriage to Wilma Gordon in 1975.

Sonny was a baptized and confirmed member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. He was a good friend and neighbor.

Sonny is survived by one son, Philip Erdman and his wife, LuAnn, of Belmond; daughter-in-law, Janette Erdman, of Belmond; five grandchildren, Trisha, Trevor, Katie, Kristin, and Kristopher Erdman all of Belmond; four sister, Mary Pringnitz, of Belmond, Betty Faulkner, of Webster City, Ann Pierce, of Webster City, and Minnie Johnson, of Belmond; a gracious friend, Wilma Erdman, of Garner and her daughters, Diane Gilbert and Twyla Erdmann; and his faithful dog, Coco.

CLEAR LAKE - Josephine Torgerson, 89, of 104 W. 34th St., died Tuesday (March 13, 2001) at her home.

They moved with his job as a teacher and coach to Thor, Slater, Huxley, Burt, Hanlontown, Adel, Northwood and West Des Moines. In 1984, they moved to Clear Lake. Josephine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

GARRETT, Ind. - Kathryn Hughes Custer, 38, of Garrett, Ind., died March 2 (2001) at her home.

Kathryn was born on April 28, 1962, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Dr. Frank and Patricia Handsacker Hughes.

Kathryn graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1980. She earned a bachelor of science Degree from Iowa State University in 1984.

Kathryn was a customer manager for Bristol-Myers Squibb for 15 years. She had lived in Garrett, Ind., since 1988.

She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority in Garrett, Garrett United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Kathryn married Todd Custer on Aug. 6, 1988, in Auburn, Ind., and he survives.

Also surviving is her 3-year-old daughter, Jessica Noel Custer; her father and stepmother, Dr. Frank and Cheryll Hughes, of Sun Lake, Ariz.; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Rose Mary Hughes, of Grafton, Wis.; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Bob Lamote, of Springfield, Minn.; and her aunt, Joan Hughes of Nora Springs.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her grandparents, Tom and Mary Handsacker of Colo, Iowa, and Hugh and Jessie Hughes, of Nora Springs.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jerry Hanjian, major, USAF/retired; her eldest son, Jeffrey M. Hanjian and his wife, Julie D., of Lilburn, Ga.; her daughter, Jini M. Hanjian, Ph.D., of Tampa, Fla.; and her youngest son, Jay M. Hanjian and his wife, Christine K., of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Jill R. Hanjian of Lilburn, Ga., and Cassandra J. Hanjian and James R. Hanjian, of Tampa, Fla.; her brother, Robert S. Pedelty and his wife, Harriet D., of Mason City; her sister-in-law, Lillian Ackerman, Ph.D., and her husband, Robert A. Joyce Elaine was born in Mason City on Oct. 11, 1924. She moved with her family to Tampa in 1964 after living throughout the United States during her husband's military career.

Mrs. Hanjian received her B.A. from the University of South Florida in 1980 and was a member of the honor society Phi Kappa Phi.

She was a member of the Bay Crest Garden Club for 45 years and her family sends them a loving thank you for their kind help.

MASON CITY - Jack B. Vermillion, 87, of Mason City, died Tuesday (March 13, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First Covenant Church, Highway 122 and South Ohio Avenue.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the First Covenant Church Building Fund.

IRVIN E. BOYD

MASON CITY - Irvin E. Boyd, 78, of 1657 Hillcrest Drive, died Tuesday (March 13, 2001) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at First Baptist Church, 125 E. State St., with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, with Masonic services at 6:30 p.m. conducted by Benevolence Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church or the Mason City Foundation-Music Man Square.

Irvin was born on May 7, 1922, in Mason City, the son of Carl and Helen (Mott) Boyd. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1940 and then attended Mason City Junior College.

Irvin married Faith Wood of Clear Lake on June 1, 1947, in Clear Lake. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in Okinawa and China as a pharmacist-mate first class with the U.S. Marines, earning the Purple Heart.

Irvin worked in sales for Mason City Millwork for many years, retiring in 1986. The following eight winters he and his wife spent in Mesa, Ariz.

He was a member of the V.F.W. and Benevolence Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M., where he served as past master. He was a member of the River City Barbershop Chorus for over 25 years, serving three years as chapter president. Irving sang in a quartet called the Panics. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and choir director and was chairman of the Educational Building Committee.

Irv loved to travel, camp and spend time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Faith, of Mason City; daughter, Mary Lou Murphy and her husband, John, of Mason City; two sons, David, of Waterloo, and Stephen, of Des Moines; four grandsons, Mark and Robert Murphy and Eric and Brandon Boyd; a sister, Shirley Carr and her husband, Veryl, of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

MASON CITY - Judith L. Stump, 49, of 516 Third St. N.E., died Wednesday (March 14, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

MARLON J. EGLI

MASON CITY - Marlon J. Egli, 71, of 380 S. Yorktown Pike, died Monday (March 12, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kathy Graves, chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating.

There will be no visitation. The body will be cremated.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Marlon John Egli was born on July 8, 1929, on a farm near Gilmore City, Iowa, the son of Edward R. and Sadie (Musselman) Egli. He was educated in a one-room country schoolhouse until a move by his family, when he was in the 7th grade, prompted a change to the Gilmore City Public Schools. He graduated in 1948 as class valedictorian. He later attended the University of Minnesota and Cornell College of Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Army from May of 1951, serving as administrative first sergeant of his unit, until his honorable discharge in 1953.

In 1954, Marlon began employment as a salesman in the Montgomery Ward store in Fort Dodge. In 1957, he was promoted to store planning supervisor and began a 10-year career supervising the remodeling of existing stores and building of new ones, headquartering first in St. Paul, then Chicago and later Oakland, Calif.

In 1967 he became the architecture inspector for a new shopping center complex called Serramonte near San Francisco. Upon completion of the one-million-square-foot center in September of 1968, he became its purchasing and contractor superintendent for the largest homebuilder in San Francisco. He relocated to the Black Hills of South Dakota, then later to Mason City.

He married Sandra (Nelson) Foy at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on Nov. 11, 1978. The addition of her three children, Jamie, Brent and Jonie, made his life and their marriage a wonderful celebration of living and loving. In 1981 they moved back to California where Marlon became vice president for construction at the Serramonte Center.

He retired in April of 1992, moving to Albert Lea, Minn., to be near his family and then to Mason City in November of 1999.

Marlon enjoyed traveling, designing and building his own projects around the home, spending time with family and was past president of the Solo Parents of Mason City. He worked at Woodharbor until August of 2000.

Marlon is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Mason City; children, Rhonda Campbell and husband, Greg, of Modesto, Calif., Jamie Foy and his wife, Debra, of Mason City, Brent Foy, of St. Paul, Minn. and Jonie Blankenship and husband, Todd, of Leland; eight grandchildren, Kevin Ellis, of Modesto, Calif., Crystal Foy, of Des Moines, Shawn and Travis Foy, of Mason City, Matt and Mike Foy, of Manly, and Alyssa and Jimmy Blankenship, of Leland; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Staley, of Des Moines; five brothers, Willard and Ginny of Mason City, Joe and Veronica of Lakeland, Fla., Gene and Nell of Starkville, Miss., Carvel and Marilyn of Fort Dodge and Ken of Washington, Iowa; and one sister, Ruby and Ray McCabe, of Clare, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lester; and two sisters, Opal and Eleanor.
