FLORENCE W. DEAN

MASON CITY - Florence W. Dean, 100, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Thursday (Nov. 16, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Richard D. Scheerer officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Piano fund at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in her memory.

Florence was born Feb. 24, 1900, in rural Mason City, the daughter of Wendell W. and Ellen (Pickford) Wilkinson. She graduated from Mason City High School, Mason City Junior College and attended Iowa State University.

Florence married Earl M. Dean on Feb. 10, 1923, in Mason City. The Deans were lifelong residents of Mason City where Florence taught piano as well as accompanied area musicians.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Matinee Musical, PEO Chapter IY, 20th Century Study Club, Pleasant Ridge Club, Pleasant Ridge Women's Club, was a 4-H leader for 25 years and received the Iowa Master Home Makers Award.

Florence is survived by two sons, Richard Dean and his wife, Shirley, of rural Mason City, and Allan Dean and his wife, Julie Shapiro, of Monterey, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Bruce and Mark Dean and Martin, Andrea and Anthony Dean, and Eloisa Dean; daughter-in-law, Meredith Burns, of Davis, Calif.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, Gerald; two brothers, Herbert and Roger; and one great-granddaughter.

DENNIS RICHARD MESSIER

TUCSON, Ariz. - Dennis Richard Messier passed away in Hospice at the Tucson Medical Center, Saturday (Nov. 4, 2000) at the age of 56. A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Christ Church United Methodist in Tucson, Ariz.

Born in Charles City, Iowa, July 22, 1944, he was the son of Richard and Elizabeth Messier. He was baptized June 16, 1946, and confirmed July 7, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in Rockford, Iowa.

He graduated from Rockford Senior High School in 1962, and from Mason City Junior College in Mason City, Iowa in 1964, with an Associate in Arts Degree. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree in 1969 from the University of Iowa and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He attended the Executive Management Institute of both Wharton School of Business and the Voluntary Hospitals of America.

After receiving his Pharmacy Degree he remained at the University Pharmacy in Iowa City, Iowa (1969-1974). He then became Director of Pharmacy at Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa (1974-1981), moving to Tucson, Ariz. to become Director of Pharmacy at the Tucson Medical Center from 1981 to 1999. During this time he was also Associate of Pharmacy with the University of Arizona for student rotations. For the past year he has been Pharmacy Consultant for Premier, Inc. of Chicago, Ill.

Dennis was active in professional groups in Iowa, Arizona, and nationally. He served on the boards and was president of both the Iowa and Arizona Societies of Hospital Pharmacies. He served on the Board of Directors of Arizona State Council of Hospital Pharmacists and the Board of Directors of Southern Arizona Society of Hospital Pharmacies. He was on the voluntary Hospitals of America Pharmacy Programs National Advisory Board and served on the University of Iowa Pharmacy Alumni Board.

He was chairman, vice-chairman and board member of the Arizona State Chapter and the Southern Arizona Division of the March of Dimes. He received many honors and awards, but the two most meaningful to him were being chosen as Iowa Pharmacist of the Year in 1980 and Arizona Pharmacist of the Year in 1988.

Many of his co-workers spoke of Dennis as a calm, efficient mentor who was always fair and encouraging. Following the Iowa Hawkeyes and Arizona Wildcats with his friends and family gave Dennis much enjoyment. His grandchildren, Erica and Sam Preston, were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joy (Houser) Messier; his daughter, Justin (Peter) Preston and their children, Erica and Sam, of Edwardsville, Ill. and his son, Christian (Tammy) of Surprise, Alaska; his parents, Richard and Elizabeth Messier, of Rockford; and two brothers, Kirk (Karen), Alecia and Jason, of Iowa City; and Bryce (Sharon), and Deanna, of Phoenix, Ariz.

MARILYN KAY SOLOMONSON

AUSTIN, Minn. - Marilyn Kay Solomonson, 60, of Austin, Minn. died Monday, (Nov. 20, 2000) at Waseca Medical Center in Waseca after a short illness. She was born to Fredrick and Anna (Sonderland) Schwab on March 30, 1940 in Forest City, Iowa. Marilyn spent most of her childhood in Mason City, with her mother, Anna Jensen; stepfather, Pete Jensen; and stepbrothers, Jewel Jensen, Rick Jensen and Mick Jensen. She was a 1958 graduate of Mason City High School and was active in school choir and many other activities.

On Aug. 21, 1960, she was united in marriage with David Solomonson at North Prairie Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa. They moved to Austin in August 1963 where Marilyn worked at Tempo, Sears, Cedar Valley, as an aide for the handicapped and as a home health aide for many years.

She was active in the Austin Women Faculty Group, Austin Diabetes Group, St. Olaf Lutheran Church Book Study and Austin Senior Citizens Center.

She loved to eat out with her friends; travel, go to parties and other social activities with her husband and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She loved the people she worked with and will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her husband, David; sons, Mark (Becky) Solomonson, of Byron, Minn., and Steven (Rose) Solomonson, of Shoreview, Minn.; daughters, Pam (Scott) Rew, of Waseca, Minn., and Sara Solomonson, of Waseca, Minn.; grandchildren, Blair, Bryce and Brett Solomonson, Tyler, Alicia and McKinsy Rew, and Tehya Cleaves; mother, Anna Jensen of Waseca., Minn.; stepbrothers, Rick Jensen, of Florida, and Mick Jensen, of Florida; aunt, Galene Deines, of Florida; uncle, Stanford Sonderland, of Lake Mills; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fredrick Schwab; her stepfather, Pete Jensen and a step brother, Jewel Jensen.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, Minn. with the Reverend Kristin K. Wee officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Worlein Funeral Home, 1801 N.W. Fourth St. in Austin, Minn. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

CHARLES CITY - Memorial services for Alan L. Uetz, 39, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Charles City, will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 601 Milwaukee St., in Charles City, with Pastor Diane Kimm Mitchell officiating.

Alan L. Uetz, 39, of 4821 Bryant Ave S., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, as a result of cardiac arrest.

ELIZABETH TOSEL

MASON CITY - Elizabeth Tosel, 92, of Mason City, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000) at the Heritage Care Center. She entered her rest on her birthday.

Elizabeth was born Nov. 19, 1908, on a farm in Cerro Gordo County, the daughter of Charles and Lizzie (Sutton) Anderson. She received her education in this area, and later began teaching grade school in Dows, Iowa. Elizabeth continued teaching for many years.

She married Leonard Tosel on Aug. 11, 1966, in Northwood.

Elizabeth is survived by two grandsons, Martin Charles Anderson, of Mason City, Iowa, and Brian Anderson, of Plymouth, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel.

MERLE C. JOHNSON

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Merle C. Johnson, 72, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000).

Born in Kiester, Minn., on Nov. 29, 1927, he moved to Arizona 41 years ago from Hyattsville, Md. He was in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a retired barber and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He was also a volunteer at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his daughter, Lanya Ortiz; brothers, Dean and James; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3110 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale, Ariz.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd. in Scottsdale, Ariz.

MARGUERITE J. MENKE

GARNER - Marguerite J. Menke, 92, of Davenport, formerly of Garner, died Saturday (Nov. 18, 2000) at Genesis West in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Garner United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

ARDITH J. KELLY

CHARLES CITY - Ardith (Mrs. Robert) Kelly, 76, a resident of 1115 Hildreth St., Charles City, died Sunday afternoon (Nov. 19, 2000) at a Rochester, Minn., hospital.

Funeral services for Ardith Kelly will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, with the Rev. Diane Mitchell, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church.

Ardith Juanita Friedow Kelly was born Aug. 27, 1924, in rural Kanawha, the daughter of Floyd Frank and Edna Dorothea (Koch) Friedow. She graduated from Kanawha High School, received a two year teaching certificate from Upper Iowa University at Fayette, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado and a Master of Arts in Elementary Administration from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls.

She taught at Titonka from 1943 to 1944, at Kanawha from 1944 to 1948, then at Charles City at McKinley Grade School from 1948 to 1950, and from 1952 to 1957.

On June 18, 1955, she and Robert F. Kelly were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City. She then taught from 1967 to 1977 at Floyd Elementary, was principal at Washington Elementary from 1977 to 1985, and then taught at Washington Elementary from 1985 to 1990.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, sang in the choir for many years, was a member of the morning circle and served on various church committees. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, the National Education Association and a member of the Big 4 Retired School Personnel.

Living family members include two daughters and their husbands, Juanita and Paul Hughes and Ramona and Robert Cagley, all of Charles City; four sons and their wives, Shawn and Carol Kelly and Patrick Kelly, all of Charles City, Brian and Denise Kelly, of Ottumwa and Barry and Rachael Kelly, of Nora Springs; 11 grandchildren; and one brother, Verlyn Friedow, of Kanawha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; and two brothers.

CLEAR LAKE - Homer N. Hitchcock, 87, of 1906 N. 8th Place, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. He was cremated. Inurnment will be in Menlo Cemetery in Menlo, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear lake, with the Rev. Gary Johnson, spiritual coordinator with Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, and one hour prior to services on Saturday.

MERLE C. JOHNSON

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Merle C. Johnson, 72, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000).

NASHUA - Patrick Martin, 33, of Nashua, passed away Sunday evening (Nov. 19, 2000) at the USA Healthcare in Mason City, of complication of juvenile diabetes.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at the Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, at the Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home.

Patrick Martin was born Nov. 22, 1966, in Waterloo, to William L. and Opal (Johnson) Martin. He attended Nashua schools and obtained his GED at a later date. He worked for a time at Arby's.

He is survived by his mother, Opal (Johnson) Martin, of Mason City; his father and stepmother, William L. and Norine Martin, of Irving, Texas; two brothers, William LeRoy Martin, of Greene, and Michael Martin, of Nashua; five sisters, Peggy Wefel and Linda Martin, both of Waterloo, Karen Reisem, of Greene, Sheryl Montgomery, of Urbana, Ohio, and Jolene Martin, of Irving, Texas; a grandfather, William F. Martin, of Postville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Nellie Johnson; paternal grandmother, Minda Martin; and two sisters, Kathleen and Mary Kay Martin.

Homer was born March 11, 1913, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Kitty (Warnock) Hitchcock. He graduated from Menlo High School in Menlo, Iowa, in 1930 and then attended business school in Des Moines.

Homer married Thelma Glasscock Dec. 14, 1933, to whom their two children were born. He spent his life farming and operating livestock truckline in Radcliff and the Clear Lake area. He married Kate Hauge and later married Lucille Swan in 1991 who preceded him in death in 1993.

Homer enjoyed visiting with his family, friends, having coffee with them, dancing at the Surf, and watching sporting events.

Homer is survived by his daughter, Judith Ann Flowers, of Missouri City, Texas; one son, Homer Craig Hitchcock, of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Michelle Koch and her husband, Ron, of Fort Worth, Texas, Anna Marie Flowers and her husband, Robert Kent, of Omaha, Neb., Lisa Flowers-Davis and her husband, Trey, of Missouri City, Texas, Heather Fitzsimmons and her husband, Shane, of Missouri City, Texas, and Kent Hitchcock, of Denver, Colo.; and five great grandchildren, Tanya Reynolds, Meghan Reynolds, Mercedes Kent, Austin Kent and Makenna Fitzsimmons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lucille Swan.

ALGONA - Eugene D. "Gene" Friedrich, 47, of Algona, died Wednesday (Nov. 22, 2000) at his home.

Alpha Corella Reines was born Oct. 15, 1908, in Mount Valley Township, Winnebago County, near Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Nathan and Malena (Felland) Brones. She was baptized on Jan. 3, 1909, at the Scandinavian United Methodist Church in Forest City and confirmed on Aug. 30, 1925, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City.

On June 16, 1928, she was united in marriage to Conrad Gerhard Reines in Mason City, Iowa. Conrad passed away April 16, 1978.

Alpha enjoyed caring for and entertaining her family, growing flowers, gardening and being a seamstress. She was a wonderful hostess and a great cook. Her kindness and generosity was known by everyone. She loved to travel and took trips to Norway with her family.

She is survived by her son, Carroll (Virgean) Reines, of Lake Mills; three daughters, Marilyn (Gene) Brady, of Perry, Cheryl (James) Moore, of Waterloo, and Linda (Kenneth) Ferjak, of Forest City; 12 grandchildren, Maribeth (Bill) Wright, Colleen (Jeff) Nolting, Carrie (Bob) Moen, Chris (Mark) Schmidt, Caryn and her fiance, Jeff Helgeson, Carlynn and special friend, Scott Pederson, Charlie, Bobby and Kristina Moore, Bill, Malanie and Abby Ferjak; four great-grandchildren, Grant, Jackson and Kennedi Marie Wright and Hayden Nolting; two sisters, Mildred Hoeft, of Belmond, and Margaret (Clyde) Mitchell, of Lake Placid, Fla.; one brother, Stanley (Virgil) Brones, of St. Ansgar; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Reines, of Lake Mills; along with several nieces and nephews.

Charles Porter Hubbard was born July 10, 1906, in Atkins, Iowa, the son of Chester W. and Lucy (Simmons) Hubbard. At a young age, his family moved to Mason City where he graduated from Mason City High School in 1927.

Porter married L. Marjorie Whitsitt on June 15, 1936 , at her parents' home in Mason City. Porter served in Europe during World War II in the Army National Guard. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a custodian for more than 23 years before retiring in 1968.

Porter was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Masons Benevolence Lodge #145 A.F. & A.M. and the York Rite White Shrine. He was also a member of the American Legion and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the AARP.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, L. Marjorie Hubbard, of Mason City; nieces, Sandy Taylor and husband, Bob, of Bloomington, Ind., and Barbara Hubbard, of Berkeley, Calif.; nephew, Tom Hubbard, and his wife, Dorie, of Berea, Ky.; and great nieces, Shelly Taylor and her husband, James Russell and daughter, Isabelle, and Jan Schultz and her husband, Wade, and son, Benton, and Christie and Susan Hubbard.

Anna Louise Schmidt was born April 16, 1899 in Jackson Township, Butler County, a daughter of Conrad and Minnie (Fick) Schmidt, and died Wednesday (Nov. 22, 2000) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

She was baptized May 7, 1899, and confirmed March 30, 1913, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Vilmar. She received her education in the Jackson Township Schools.

She was united in marriage to Emil John Rover on April 10, 1917, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Wilmar. They were lifelong members of Vilmar until 1943 when they moved to the Clarksville area and became members of St. John's Lutheran Church at Clarksville. In 1958 they became members of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. Emil and Anna were blessed with four children.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Mabel Steere, of Greene, Eleanor and her husband, Rodger Derr, of Independence, and Lyle Roever, of Greene; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leonard Schmidt, of Waverly, and Paul Schmidt, of Allison.

She leaves to join her husband, Emil J. Rover, who died Dec. 7, 1979; daughter, LaVerna in 1979; son-in-law, Henry Steere in 2000; grandson, Billy Dean Steere in 1970; four great-grandchildren, Cindy and Pam Childress, Cailey Steere and Michelle Bonwell Barry; her parents; two sisters, Dora Kollman and Laura Vander Kalb; three half sisters, Minnie Reinicke, Louise Aswegan, and Mary Poppe; six brothers, Henry, Carl, Albert, Martin, Vern, and Harvey Schmidt; and three half brothers.

MASON CITY - Dale E. Howell, 67, of 729 17th St. N.E., died Wednesday evening (Nov. 22, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

On Oct. 23, 1933 in Ute, Iowa, Dale E. Howell was born, the son of Otis and Myrtle (Hull) Howell. Dale's parents and Dale then moved to Arthur, Iowa, where he spent most of his childhood.

On July 29, 1956, in Early, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Shirley Townsend and then entered the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps until 1958 when he was honorably discharged. Dale and Shirley owned and operated the Howell Locker Plant in Alden, Iowa, for seven years.

On May 23, 1961, their son, Dan, was born in Iowa Falls. Dale moved his family to Webster City, where he worked in Fort Dodge. One year later, they moved to Mason City where he became a meat manager for Safeway. He spent the past 13 years at Mercy Hospital as a custodian, where the ER was his favorite, before his retirement in 1998.

Dale was an avid wood craftsman using Intarsia wood designs to make 3-Dimensional murals. He also loved baking breads of all kinds and was an excellent cook.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley; and his one son, Dan Howell and his wife, Jo Ann, of Iowa, and their children, Zachary and Ezekiel; one brother, Everett, of California; and one sister, of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Myrtle Howell; brothers, Robert and Allan; and one sister, Lois.

Dean Merlin Ott was born Sept. 14, 1928, in rural Greene, Iowa, a son of Paul C. and Dorotha Beal Ott and died Thursday (Nov. 23, 2000) at his home in Greene.

Dean received his education in the Greene Community Schools, graduating in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army Infantry in October of 1946 and served until March of 1948. While in the Army he was a member of the United States' Occupational Force in Japan.

On Feb. 5, 1949, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Knapp at St. Mary's Rectory in Greene. They made their home in rural Greene for 50 years before moving to their present home in Greene in May of 1999.

Dean will be remembered as the Pioneer Seed salesman in the Greene area for 28 years before retiring. He enjoyed RVing with family and friends, was an Iowa Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed the local football team. His greatest love was spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

He served on many boards including the Greene Elevator Board, Floyd County Hospital Board, Round Grove Golf and Country Club Board and St. Mary's Church Board.

Naomi C. Cram was born on May 22, 1906, at Bagley, Iowa, to William and Alta Dove Iddings Cain. She received her early education in Windom, Minn. and graduated from the Lohrville High School in Lohrville.

On Jan. 29, 1929, Naomi was married to Carroll Cram at Windom, Minn. The couple farmed at Lohrville until 1942, when they purchased a farm west of Corwith, Iowa. Carroll and Naomi farmed there until 1966 when they retired and moved into Corwith. Naomi's husband, Carroll, preceded her in death on May 18, 1979.

Neomi was an active member of the Corwith United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Thursday Club in Corwith. Naomi enjoyed cooking and doing needlepoint.

Naomi became a resident of the Algona Manor in Algona, on Feb. 10, 2000. She died there on Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at the age of 94.

Naomi is survived by her two sons, C. Weston Cram and his wife, Florence, of Nelson, Mo., and Myron Cram and his wife, Mariann, of Corwith; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and three brothers.

ALBERT L. FISH SR., 77, was born in rural Corwith on July 29, 1923. His grandparents, Albert and Louise Fish, raised him in the Corwith and Hanlontwn areas. He attended school in the Hanlontown area.

Albert served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1946 onboard the light cruiser, USS Philadelphia CL-41 during World War II.

On July 28, 1944, Albert married Vera L. Fett in Corwith. To this union, five children were born.

After his discharge from the Navy, Albert began farming in the Britt area, a career he loved. Albert's family moved back to the Corwith area in 1949, where he farmed until his retirement in 1976.

In addition to farming, Albert also enjoyed fishing and attending his annual ship reunions with his World War II friends.

Albert was a member of the Prudence Lodge #205 A.F. & A.M., Algona, and the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229, Corwith, serving as President of the Day at the Memorial Day Program for many years.

Albert died on Thursday (Nov. 23, 2000) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, after a lengthy illness.

Family was very important to Albert. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Vera Fish; his children, Albert "Skip" Fish Jr. and his wife, Laura, Carol Niewald and her husband, Jack, Bryan Fish and his wife, Theresa, and Brett Fish and his wife, Lana, all of Corwith. Others that will mourn and miss Albert include 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Russell "Buck" VanZandt and his wife, Mary and Robert VanZandt and his wife, Mary, of Wisconsin; and one sister, Sharon Mina and husband, Dan, of California; as well as a host of other family, special grandkids and friends.

Maria married Valeriano William Villarreal on Dec. 8, 1932, in Mason City, Iowa. They had lived in Mason City, Albert Lea, Minneapolis and then again in Albert Lea for the last 26 years.

She had worked in the fields throughout her life and also at Decker's Meat Packing in Mason City and Land O' Lakes in Albert Lea.

Maria enjoyed sewing, dancing, shopping, going out to eat, watching novellas, crocheting, music, playing piano and organ, singing, gardening and caring for flowers and plants, and playing Chinese checkers. Being surrounded by and visiting with her family was the greatest joy in her life.

She is survived by her children, Franciso Reyes, of El Paso, Texas, Albert Villarreal and his wife, Isabel, of Albert Lea, Sarah and her husband, Don Wirtjes, of Albert Lea, Cruz and her husband, Gordy Andersen, of Reno, Nev., Carolina Navarrette, of Apple Valley, Minn., and Roque Villarreal, of Apple Valley, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Guadalupe Rubio, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Valeriano William O. Villarreal; four grandsons; one great-grandson; brothers and sisters, Cipriano, Roman, Odolpho, Rebecca, Jose, Enrique and a sister in infancy.

She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all.
