MASON CITY - Lorena W. Karr, 100, of Mason City, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Nielson, chaplain of Good Shepherd Health Center, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Mason City.

RENWICK - Norma Long, 93, of Renwick, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at the Clarion Community Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Renwick, with the Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial will be in the Goldfield Cemetery in Goldfield.

ALLISON - Eime G. Tuitjer, 78, of Allison, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Allison United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery.

CHARLES CITY - Glen E. Bauer, 81, of 2593 7 Mile Road, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at a Rochester, Minn., hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Charles City, with the Rev. Greg Lugn officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

BRITT - Dorothy E. Spiess, 79, of Britt, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

LUCINDA HENRIETTA BRYANT

SHEFFIELD - Lucinda Henrietta Bryant, 86, of Sheffield, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at the Sheffield Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield, with the Rev. Kent Mechler officiating. Burial will be in the Zion-St. John Lutheran Cemetery in rural Sheffield.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.

Lucinda Henrietta Bryant was born on Oct. 30, 1913, on a farm southeast of Sheffield to John and Marie (Eickmeyer) Horstman. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church east of Sheffield. Lucinda graduated from Sheffield High School, then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Ames. She then taught in the rural schools in the 1930s.

Lucinda enjoyed painting, cooking and baking, playing her chord organ, knitting and crocheting, and enjoyed her collection of dolls and bells.

She enjoyed current events and political discussions. Lucinda was a member of Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield where she sang in the choir and was a member of the WELCA. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her two sons, Ray Bryant and his wife, Beverly, of Iowa City, and John Bryant and his wife, Debbie, of Coralville, as well as four grandsons, Christopher, Nicholas, Jason and Stephen Bryant.

Lucinda was preceded in death by her parents.


JUNE TENNEY PLATH


GOOSE CREEK, S.C. - June Tenney Plath, 89, of Goose Creek, widow of James Carlyle Tenney and Wilbur Plath, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek, S.C.

Burial directed by J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Greenridge Road Chapel, will be private.

Mrs. Plath was born in Rockford, Iowa, a daughter of Vern Palmer and Susie Crole Palmer.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

She retired from the clothing industry as a fur seamstress.

She is survived by two sons, Jerome D. Tenney of Goose Creek, S.C., and James V. Tenney of Pomona, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Janet Seeley of Mason City, Iowa, and Joy C. Martazhl of Burchinal, Iowa; one sister, Beulah Sypolt of Hollywood, Calif.; 34 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

MARY MARIE BERGE

OSAGE - Mary Marie Berge, 62, of Osage, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at her home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 833 Ash Street in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., in Osage and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in Mary's memory.

Mary was born Mary Marie Mitchell, the sixth child of Brodie Barlow Mitchell and Bertha Florence (Carrison) Mitchell, on Feb. 20, 1938, in Martinsville, Ill. She was raised there to the age of 5 when the family moved to the Osage area. Mary graduated in 1957 from Osage High School.

On Oct. 15, 1960, she married Arthur Berge. They made their home in Osage and raised two boys, Paul and David. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Mary began her career after high school working for Home Trust and Savings Bank as a bookkeeper and teller. After taking time to raise her boys, her career interests brought her back to bookkeeping and tax preparing.

She held several positions locally with businesses including Roger Hackman CPA, Tesch's Paints and Sundries, Kratchmer & Kloberdanz, and others. She began her own bookkeeping and tax preparation business in 1986 and she served as the city of Osage treasurer and the municipal utilities treasurer until her illness prevented her from continuing.

Mary will be remembered by her family and others for her positive outlook and good-natured personality. Mary was a loving wife and mother making occasions memorable with her traditions for the holidays and other special times of the year.

She loved to watch birds and enjoyed the outdoors. She took pride in her flowers and rose gardens. She was steadfast in her encouragement and support of her family and was thoughtful of others.

Mary is survived by her husband, Arthur Berge, of Osage; her two sons, Paul Berge, of Ames and David Berge, of Grinnell; two brothers, Clinton Mitchell and his wife, Cleo, of Osage and Lester Mitchell and his wife, Oma, of Red Oak, Texas; two sisters, Florence Werner and her husband, Clayton, of Osage and Dorothy Ehlke and her husband, William, of Arlington, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Charles.

STEPHEN A. WALKER

MASON CITY - Stephen A. Walker, 44, of Mason City, died Monday (March 13, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with a flag-folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Stephen Walker Memorial Fund.

Stephen was born on Oct. 12, 1955, the son of Clifford and Charlotte (Frank) Walker in Mason City, Iowa. He was raised in the Mason City area and in 1973 joined the United States Army.

Stephen was a fanatic of car racing - driving or watching, it didn't make any difference. He had also done some drag racing. No matter what Stephen was doing he could often be found listening to country music, especially Hank Williams Jr.

He spent hours putting together model cars and fishing at Ventura and Spring Park. Stephen enjoyed playing guitar, riding motorcycles and watching television, but most of all spending time with his friends and family.

Stephen was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Those thankful for having shared in Stephen's life include two sons, Pat Walker and his wife, Amber, of Mason City and Chris Walker, of Mason City; his mother, Charlotte Walker, of Mason City; two sisters, Sharon Walker and Janice Walker, of Mason City; two brothers, Richard Walker, of Des Moines and Doug Walker and his wife, Kendra, of Clear Lake; two grandsons, Dylan and Derek Walker; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Clifford, in 1979.

RICHARD E. EICHINGER

MASON CITY - Richard E. Eichinger, 79, of 104 N. Taylor Ave., died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery where a flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Richard E. Eichinger Memorial Fund.

Richard was born Dec. 2, 1920, the son of Edward and Anna (Gerlach) Eichinger in Minneapolis, Minn. Richard was raised in the Minneapolis area and later graduated from the public school system there.

On Feb. 28, 1946, Richard was united in marriage to Margaret Johnston in Minneapolis.

Richard served his country in the United States Coast Guard from Aug. 29, 1942, until his honorable discharge on Oct. 27, 1945. During his service he was stationed in Alameda, Calif., Seattle, Wash., New York, N.Y., St. Louis, Mo. and aboard the USS Grand Forks (PF-11).

Richard later went to work for Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Ill., where he was a professional medical representative for 28 years, retiring in 1976.

Richard was a very talented wood worker, spending many hours creating his Intarsia wood art for people to enjoy. Margaret and Richard together spent their lunch times delivering Meals on Wheels for a little over two years.

They also enjoyed traveling across the United States in their camper. Richard could also be found tending to his rose garden, reading, fishing or just looking for someone to play a good game of bridge with.

Richard was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a former member of the V.F.W.

Those thankful for having shared in Richard's life include his wife, Margaret; one daughter, Anita Gaulin, of North Liberty; three sons, Daniel Eichinger and his wife, Linda, of Marion, Harry Eichinger of Dixfield, Maine and Richard Eichinger and his wife, Jean, of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Paul, Mark, Ed, Stacie and Jason; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Ellissa.

Mr. Eichinger was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kathleen; and one brother, Bernard.

JUNE L. ILG

WOODRUFF, Wis. - June L. Ilg, 80, of Woodruff, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at her home.

She was born June 13, 1919, in Hanlontown, Iowa, daughter of the late T.O. and Christena Rye. She married Robert L. Ilg on Dec. 1, 1956.

June was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed the "Northwoods" and the farm in Hanlontown, Iowa. She had lived in the Lakeland area since 1964.

She enjoyed gardening, homemaking, her pets and grandchildren. She was active in her church, Calvary Lutheran in Minocqua.

She is survived by her three daughters, Christie (David) Ilg Salter, of Durango, Colo., Lynn (John) Ilg Schmidt, of Fairport, N.Y. and Cathy Ilg, of Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Ilg in 1975; four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Minocqua, Wis. Burial will be at Pinelawn Cemetery in Manitowish Waters. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bolger Funeral Home in Minocqua.

Memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church in her memory.

GLEN HERBERT HANSON

NORA SPRINGS - Glen Herbert Hanson, 87, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Ave. in Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery in Osage.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the Church.

The family of Glen Herbert Hanson has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa or to the charity of one's choice in his memory.

Glen Herbert Hanson was born on Oct. 15, 1912, the son of Andrew and Kristine (Framstad) Hanson in Mitchell County, near Osage. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage. He attended and received his education in the rural country schools in Mitchell County.

He was united in marriage to Alvera Gasteiger on Oct. 15, 1940, at the Methodist Parsonage in Mason City. After their marriage together, they farmed in the Mitchell and Floyd county area until his retirement. After his retirement, Glen also worked for the Krause Hardware in Rudd and Tatum Hardware in Nora Springs. Glen and Alvera moved into Nora Springs in 1985.

He enjoyed dancing, sports, bowling, horse shoes, fishing and helping his neighbors and other friends, but his great love and enjoyment was his wife and all of his family.

He was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, and was a former member of a bowling league in Nora Springs.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Alvera Hanson, of Nora Springs; seven children, Shirley Arnett and her husband, Jack, of Golden Shores, Ariz., Sharon Field and her husband, Dennis, of Nora Springs, Joel Hanson and his wife, Margaret, of Osage, Jerald Hanson, of Nora Springs, Kristina Rieman and her husband, Delmer, of Newell, Kurt Hanson and his wife, Linda, of Nora Springs, and Shelly Jones and her husband, Wade, of Rudd; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Hanson, of Nora Springs and Olaf Hanson and his wife, Dorothy, of San Jose, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Troy Alan Esser and Chris Field; his sister, Myrtle Christiansen; a brother-in-law, Carl Christiansen; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hanson.

MCINTIRE - Kelly J. Carson, 40, formerly of McIntire, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

AUSTIN, Minn. - Mary A. Michels, 74, of Austin, died Tuesday (March 14, 2000) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, where she was a resident.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with Father Louis Cook officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mayer Funeral Home, 600 Second St. N.W., Austin, Minn., with a 4 p.m. Catholic Council of Women rosary and a 7 p.m. wake service. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary A. Michels, was born July 11, 1925, in Mitchell County, to Charles and Irma (Vergate) Arickx.

On Nov. 15, 1945, she was united in marriage to Russell M. Michels in Osage. Mary was past president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 91 and did specialized sewing projects for various organizations in Austin. She also worked in the St. Augustine cafeteria. Mary enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell M. Michels, on Nov. 3, 1989.

RONALD R. ALMELIEN

JOICE - Ronald R. Almelien, 49, of Joice, died Wednesday (March 15, 2000) unexpectedly at his home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fertile Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Roger Kampstra officiating. Burial will be in Elim Cemetery, rural Fertile.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.

Ronald Ray Almelien, the son of Edward and Opal (Hougham) Almelien, was born April 4, 1950, at Forest City. He attended school at Fertile and Forest City, where he graduated from high school in 1968. He attended NIACC, Mason City, and then began farming with his father and later on his own.

On Jan. 12, 1975, he was married to Molly Reinsmoen at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice. In addition to farming, he also drove semi truck hauling livestock and grain. He drove school bus for Forest City Community School District for 20 and a half years. His favorite hobby was visiting with people. No one was ever a stranger to Ron. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his children in sports. He was a member of Fertile Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and taught Sunday school.

He is survived by his wife, Molly, of Joice; four children, Isaac Almelien of Greene, Abbey Almelien and Evan Almelien, both at Luther College, and Anna Almelien, at home; his mother, Opal Almelien of Fertile; a brother, Jim Almelien and his wife, Kathy, of Washington, Iowa; two sisters, Becky Butz and her husband, David, of Clear Lake, and Rosemary Almelien, of Lake Mills; his parents-in-law, Orland and Lois Reinsmoen of Joice; two sisters-in-law, Mary Reinsmoen of Madison, Wis., and Jane Heilskov of Mason City; and two brothers-in-law, Mark Reinsmoen and his wife, Dianne, of Burnsville, Minn., and Robert Reinsmoen and his wife, Mary, of Chaska, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward, in 1975.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Memorials may be given to the Lorena W. Karr Memorial Fund.

Lorena was born June 13, 1899, in Lancaster, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Edith (Shanley) Watts.

She attended schools in Mason City and she took her nurse's training at the Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital Training School for Missionary Nurses in Hinsdale, Ill. She graduated on July 1, 1925. Upon completion of her schooling, she became a registered nurse.

Lorena was united in marriage to Sam Karr. She worked as a registered nurse for many years at the Park Hospital and the I.O.O.F. Home, both of Mason City.

Her family and religion were her mainstays in life. She enjoyed caring for her family, gardening and baking chocolate cake cookies.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was also a Sunday school teacher.

Those thankful for sharing her life and friendship are her many nieces and nephews.

Lorena was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and adopted son, Jerry; two sisters, Berniece Lester and Iva Stewart; four brothers, Lloyd, Lester, Clarence and Donald Watts.

She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek, S.C.

She is survived by two sons, Jerome D. (Nancy) Tenney, of Goose Creek, S.C. and James V. (Willa Mae) Tenney, of Pomona, Calif.; two daughters, Jan (Philip) Seely, of Mason City, and Joy (Ernie) Martzahl, of Burchinal; one sister, Beulah Sypolt, of Hollywood, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

SHEFFIELD - David D. Nolte, 70, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Sheffield, died Thursday (March 16, 2000) at the Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Thornton, with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

David Darold Nolte was born on Aug. 19, 1929, in rural Sheffield, to Leon and Ida Schroeder Nolte. David attended school in Sheffield and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1947.

On Sept. 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joan Barrick at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed near Sheffield until 1960 when they moved into Sheffield. David worked for Sheffield Brick and Tile Company and they owned and operated the Mid-Town Café in Sheffield until 1970. At that time they moved to Marion where David worked in sales for Sheffield Brick and Tile.

In June 1981 they were transferred to Minnesota where they lived until ill health forced David's retirement in 1984. They then moved to Thornton until moving to Ocala, Fla., in November 1997.

David enjoyed sports, coaching Little League. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan. He enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, yard work and fishing. David was a family-oriented man, interested in family genealogy.

He was the first patient at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., to have an experimental heart procedure done. This occurred on May 1, 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Joan, of 10411 S.W. 62nd Court, Ocala, Fla. 34476; two daughters, Diana Froning and her husband, Greg, of Fairbank, Iowa, and Jacalyn Caffrey and her husband, Doug, of Thornton; a son, Gregory Nolte and his wife, Pam, of Maple Grove, Minn.; five grandchildren, Kimm Froning, Ryan Caffrey, Collin Caffrey, Matthew Nolte and Bradley Nolte; and brothers and sisters, Helene Denker and her husband, Wilmer, of Muscatine, Betty Hummel and her husband, Harry, of Allison, Charles Nolte and his wife, Judy, of Mason City, Anita Geer and her husband, Don, of Clive, William Nolte and his wife, Phyllis, of Sheffield; and Vicki Anderson and her husband, Russell, of Thornton.

David was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patty; and one grandson, Jason Froning, on April 26, 1994.

Arlene Tosel was born Jan. 11, 1910, in Mason City to James Peter and Nellie Mae (Parson) Keegan. She attended Mason City High School and graduated in 1927. She then went to work for the telephone company as an operator.

She was married to Leonard Tosel. Arlene worked for Yellow Cab as a dispatcher and for Country Kitchen. Prior to retiring Arlene also worked as a cook at the county juvenile home as well as St. Joseph's Convent.

Arlene had been a active member of First United Methodist Church in Mason City. She was also a member of Eagle's Lodge and a past president of V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved bingo, doing crafts and needlework. She enjoyed her gardening and spending time with her family and cats and dogs.

Arlene will be missed by her family, her daughter, Joyce Johnson and her husband, Bob, Mason City; her son, Michael Tosel and his wife, Kathy, Mason City; a son-in-law, Claire Ellingson, Mason City; eight grandchildren, Cindy Christensen and her husband, Lynn, Mason City, Teri Block and her husband, Ken, Cedar Rapids, Jody Aultman and her husband, Reynolds, Stewartville, Minn., Scott Ellingson and his wife, Carol, Des Moines, Doug Johnson, and his wife, Nancy, Clear Lake, Lisa Post and her husband, Steve, Mason City, Melynda McKelvey and her husband, Michael, Mason City, and Michelle Tosel, West Des Moines; eight great-grandchildren, Jonna Block, Tim Eggman, Jessica Zupan, Bridget Johnson, Travis Johnson, Luke Johnson, Ryan Post, and Alyssa Post; and a brother-in-law, Bud Keegan, Mason City.

OSAGE - Bernice H. Lack, 95, died Friday (March 17, 2000) at the Faith Home in Osage.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 Wednesday at First Congregational Church, U.C.C., in Orchard with the Rev. William Griffee officiating. There will be no viewing as she wished to be cremated. Her cremains will be buried at the Orchard Cemetery.

Bernice H. Lack, the daughter of Glen and Minnie (Rowley) Waid was born Sept. 13, 1904, at Loomis, S. D. She moved to the Floyd area as a small child and grew up there.

She married John Lack on March 5, 1927. They spent most of their married life in the Orchard area. John Lack died Nov. 4, 1960.

Bernice continued living in Orchard until selling her house and moving to Osage to live with her son, Robert M. Lack, and his wife Jacqueline.

Bernice was an active member of the Orchard Congregational Church. She worked in the U. S. Post office in Orchard and later became the Post Master. She participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony at the opening of the new Post Office in Orchard.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Robert M. Lack and his wife, Jacqueline L., of Osage; a sister, Thelma Barth of Charles City; granddaughters, Nancy M. Lee of Colorado Springs, Colo., Clarice Armand and her husband, Owen, of Mountain Home, Ark., Shawne Gunsallus and her husband, Terry, of Austin, Minn., and Cindy Greenzweig and her husband, Jay, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a grandson, Shane Lack and his wife, Jean, of Fredricksburg, Va.; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley Emma Proeger was born on July 10, 1932, the daughter of Martin Luther and Olive Virginia (Hoffman) Proeger, in Mason City. She attended and graduated from Belmond schools and continued her education at Iowa State University.

In October of 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to Marvin Pals of Blemond. At the time Shirley worked for many years at Acco Seeds in Belmond.

On April 12, 1980, she was united in marriage to Marvin Plagge of Latimer. They farmed together outside of Latimer.

Shirley had a great love for the outdoors and always enjoyed gardening and camping. She was also involved in barrel racing and team driving.

Shirley was an active member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer and also participated in card clubs and various other organizations.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Plagge, Latimer; her children, Brian Pals, Aurora, Colo., and Virginia Workman, Ashburn, Va.; step-children, Julie and Elias Castillo, Minneapolis, Jennifer Plagge, Cuba, Mo., and John and Anne Plagge, Clear Lake; step-granddaughters, Brooklyn Plagge and Kayla Castillo; brothers, Luther Proeger Jr. and his wife, Mary, Belmond, and Linden Proeger and his wife, Carol, Prophetstown, Ill.; a sister, Betty Conner and her husband, Albert, Alexandria, La.; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.

Curtis Allen Moore was born on Jan 31, 1902, in Westfork Township, Franklin County, to Perry and Linnie Richard Moore. Curtis attended rural schools and married Valma A. Moore on Dec. 24, 1928, in Charles City. The couple lived and farmed in Westfork Township all of their married life. In 1979 Curtis retired and they moved to Hampton.

Curtis was a member of Westfork United Methodist Church where he was an active member. He was on the Dougherty and Sheffield Creamery Boards as well as a member of the Farm Bureau Board of Franklin County.

Curtis enjoyed gardening, farming, bird watching and people. Curtis had a quiet sense of humor and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

Survivors include his children, Lois Gauley of Hampton, Robert Moore and his wife, Nancy, of Alexander, and Bonnie DeVries and her husband, Kenneth, of Hampton; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Valma, on Sept. 22, 1995; one sister, Leah; three brothers, Ray, William and Ralph; and one grandson, Roger.

Wanda was born Dec. 16, 1914, the daughter of Frank and Lelah Ward in Mason City. She attended the Mason City school system and later graduated from Mason City High School.

In 1933 Wanda was united in marriage to Wayne Van Note at the Christian Church. This marriage was blessed with one son, Jerry W. Van Note.

Wanda was a member of the First Christian Church, Mason City.

Those thankful for having shared in Wanda's life include her granddaughter, Catharine Van Note and her husband, Ronald Becker; one great granddaughter, Anna Catharine Becker, all of Des Moines; and a daughter-in-law, Donna J. Van Note of Mason City.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, and her son, Jerry W. Van Note.

HANNA ELIZABETH WAGGONER

MACON CITY - Hanna Elizabeth Waggoner, 88, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Saturday (March 18, 2000) at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., Mason City, with the Rev. Paul Finger officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m., one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Hanna Anna Elizabeth (Reich) Waggoner was born Sept. 29, 1911, in Ramona, Kan., the daughter of John Henry and Anna Elizabeth (Borger) Reich. She was baptized Oct. 15, 1911, at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ramona. In 1916 her family moved to Iowa and she attended Mason City schools.

On Dec. 6, 1930, Hanna was united in marriage with Edgar Russell Waggoner at First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Mason City. They farmed in the Clear Lake and Fertile area until 1942 when they moved to a farm near Carpenter. They farmed there until retiring in 1962.

While there she was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church near Carpenter, the P.T.A., Music Mothers and Card Club.

>After retiring they moved to Bolivar, Mo. After Edgar's death in 1978, Hanna returned to Mason City where she became an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Church Circle.

Hanna enjoyed spending time with her family and was known to be a very good cook and baker. She liked to sew and visit with her friends and relatives.

She is survived by her two sons, Leroy Waggoner, Mason City, and Larry Waggoner, Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Coleen Trettin and her husband, Dale, Grafton, and Kathy Moore and her husband, Larry, Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Lori Mulch and her special friend, Kelly Hart, Hutchinson, Kan., Lisa Waggoner, Cedar Rapids, Lynne Patton and her husband, Jack, Thornton, Colo., Dawn Schutter and her husband, Dwane, Titonka, Todd Trettin and his wife, Jennifer, Carpenter, Julie Moore, Staten Island, N. Y., Kellie Moore, Omaha, Neb.; two great-grandchildren, Kristen Schutter and Kayleigh Trettin; 3 step-great-granchildren, Kenny, Kyle and Kaleb; one sister, Alvina Fisher, Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, John Henry Waggoner in infancy; a sister, Viola Abrams; and brother-in-law, Gerald Fisher.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Gay Lou Eckhardt, 58, of 8450 N. 67th Ave., Apt. 1019, died Thursday (March 16, 2000) at her home in Glendale, Ariz.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Kathy Graves, chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home and Tuesday prior to the services.

Gay L. (Martin) Eckhardt, 58, of Glendale, Ariz., went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2000. She was born on June 2, 1941, in Mason City.

She had retired from Sears in Waterloo in 1996 and relocated to Glendale to be near her family. She continued her career as an employee at the Bank of America.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Penny Ryan, Santa Fe, N. M., Lisa Effertz and her husband, Ken, Glendale, Ariz., and Kim Doerr and her husband, Darin, Nampa, Idaho; one grandson, Kyle Effertz, Glendale, Ariz.; her father, Thomas Wayne Martin, Mason City; and two brothers, A. Jay Martin and his wife, Sharon, Mason City, and Perry Martin and his wife, Kim, Hiawatha. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She had numerous friends and will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Martin, and brother, Gary.
