JAMES W. SEEBER

CEDAR RAPIDS - James W. Seeber, 61, of 3389 Singer Hill Lane, died Monday (June 5, 2000) at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, with the Rev. Daniel Krueger officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Osage Cemetery in Osage.

Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. N.E. in Cedar Rapids, and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church.

James was born Feb. 16, 1939, in Osage, the loving son of Kenneth "Kink" and Myrtle Ask Seeber. He married Peggy Lou Kusel on April 4, 1970, in Keystone.

James was an engineering lab manager at Rockwell Collins for 37 years. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha and served in the U.S. Army. He liked to play golf and to spend time on his acreage along the Cedar River in Osage fishing.

A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Brian, of Cedar Rapids and Bradley, of Ames; a daughter, Cindy Young and her husband, Jon, of Marion; and his mother-in-law, Thelma Kusel, of Keystone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary; and his father-in-law, Loren Kusel.

RUFUS THORSVOLD

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. - Rufus Thorsvold, 88, of Apple Valley, formerly of Mason City, died Monday (June 5, 2000) at the Apple Valley Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Apple Valley, with the Rev. Paul Harrington officiating. Burial will be in Arlington, S.D., on Friday, June 9.

NIEMAN HARRIS QUISLING

LAKE MILLS - Funeral services for Nieman Quisling, 89, of Lake Mills will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with the Rev. Sara Beth Akre and the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and one hour prior to services at the church.

Nieman Harris Quisling, son of Thomas and Anne (Aasland) Quisling, was born March 24, 1911, in Worth County. He attended school at Lake Mills.

On Oct. 29, 1933, he was united in marriage to Berdie Jordahl at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Nieman farmed in the Lake Mills area for 21 years then went into the insurance business as manager of Winnebago Mutual for 30 years.

Nieman was active in Salem Lutheran Church serving as Sunday School teacher, usher and President of Brotherhood. Other activities included Lake Mills Ambulance, Lions Club, I.O.O.F., State Board of Mutual Insurance Companies and Legal Council.

Nieman enjoyed visiting with people, especially his grandchildren. Nieman and Berdie enjoyed winters in Arizona for 18 years. He was an avid golfer, bowler and he and Berdie enjoyed playing cards with their friends.

Nieman passed away Monday (June 5, 2000) at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Berdie of Lake Mills; three daughters, Dorothy and her husband, Roger Fjelstad, of Lake Mills, Janice and her husband, Jerry Kallheim, of Madison Lake, Minn., and Judy and her husband, Tom Lawrence of Billings, Mont.; six grandchildren, Karen Knudtson, Jay Fjelstad, Susan Rima, Kristin Peterson, Chad Schubert and Michelle Schubert; six great-grandchildren, Kristanne Low, Andrew Knudtson, Carolyn Rima, Allison Peterson, Megan Fjelstad and Morgan Fjelstad; one great-great-grandson, Dylan David Low; two brothers, George Quisling of Lake Mills and Walter Quisling of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one sister, Mabel Matthews of Lake Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nieman was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Beatrice Charlson; and two brothers, Alvin and Obert.

ELIZABETH MACCORKENDALE SNOOK HANSEN

MASON CITY - Elizabeth MacCorkendale Snook Hansen, 86, of 1033 19th St. S.W. (Three Links Apartments) of Mason City died Sunday (June 4, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Wanda Hagman and the Rev. Clifford Hagman of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a Moose Lodge Services at 6 p.m. followed by a Queen Rebekah Lodge services.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Elizabeth MacCorkendale Snook Hansen was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Swaledale, the daughter of James and Nellie (Bosworth) MacCorkendale. At an early age her family moved to Rockwell where they made their home. She graduated from Rockwell High School.

Elizabeth married Leonard Snook in the mid 30s in Mason City where they made their home. While raising her family she worked at Mode O' Day in Mason City for more than 20 years.

In 1979 she was united in marriage to Elmer Hansen of Clear Lake. They met at the Senior Citizens Center in Clear Lake. They enjoyed dancing and traveling together. She belonged to the Sing and Sew of Clear Lake, Grandmother's Club, Senior Citizens Center and the Moose Lodge. She was also a grand noble of the Queen Rebekah Lodge.

She loved to play cards, word puzzles, crochet, knit, spend holidays with her family and the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carol Mariner of Mason City; two sons, Jim Snook and his wife, Maureen, of Mason City and Dave Snook and his wife, Janice, of Mason City; a daughter-in-law, Betty Snook of Mason City; three stepdaughters, Janice Ingle and her husband, Ron, of Iowa Falls, Rita Follmuth and her husband, Jack, of Mason City and Garnet Roney of Mason City; three stepsons, Martin Hansen and his wife, Fanny, of Clear Lake, Lawrence Hansen of Clear Lake and Alan Hansen and his wife, Janet, of Seymour; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 21 stepgrandchildren; 32 stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Donna Cerruti of California; many special friends and family which include her new friends at Three Links Apartments, Gary and Sandy Blodgett and family, Bud and Uva McKee and family, and Bonnie, from California.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Stanley Snook; her parents; husband, Elmer; daughter, Margaret Hartwell; son, Arthur Snook; and two sisters, Jean Miller and Alice Street.

CHARLES CITY - Richard Calkins, 93, of 201 Oliver St, died Monday (June 5, 2000) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday.

CLAYTON CLIFTON 'BUD' DYE

CLEAR LAKE - Clayton Clifton "Bud" Dye, 77, of 1212 9th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Sunday (June 4, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in his name.

Clayton (Bud) Dye was born May 21, 1923, in Clear Lake, the son of Daniel and Freida (Tegtmeyer) Dye. He attended Clear Lake High School.

Bud married Norma Jean Billings on June 19, 1942, in Bethany, Mo. He worked on the Alaskan Highway in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. From 1946 to 1974 he owned and operated D. D. D. Bulk Oil Co. He then worked for Ruan Transport from 1975-1985 as a driver.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church and a lifetime member of the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Bud and Jean enjoyed 26 years of going south in the winter to Brownsville, Texas, and traveling in the summer throughout the United States. He was very handy and could fix anything, he always enjoyed tinkering with things, staying busy, working in the yard and garden, refinishing furniture, collecting and working on antiques, reading Louis L'amour books and working on cars.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Dye, of Clear Lake; two children, Suzanne "Cookie" Bisgrove and her husband, Alan "Jerry," of Ankeny, and Debbie Schroeder and her husband, Doug, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Chad Bisgrove and his wife, Carol, of Kansas City, Mo., Jody Bisgrove of Cedar Falls, Judd Bisgrove of Des Moines, Stac Schroeder of Clear Lake, and Spenc Schroeder of Clear Lake; three great grandchildren, Jared Bisgrove of Kansas City, Mo., Thad Bisgrove of Des Moines and MaKenzie Bisgrove of Des Moines; one sister, Dorthea Miller of Hemet, Calif.; and one brother, Keith Dye and his wife, Vivian, of Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia Roach.

LAKE MILLS - Louis "Dale" Kramer, 51, of Lake Mills died Sunday (June 4, 2000) at his home in Lake Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery in Bradshaw, Neb.

CHARLES CITY - Bernie Schwartzkopf, 77, of 1604 Missouri Ave., died Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main and Gilbert Streets in Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag and the Rev. Mark A. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City, with military honors conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

THEA SOPHIA LARSON

SCARVILLE - Funeral services for Thea Larson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, with the Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and one hour prior to services at the church.

Thea Sophia Larson, daughter of Christ and Ingri (Folken) Larson, was born Feb. 27, 1906, at Scarville. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a life long member of the congregation.

She attended Scarville School and was a member of the first high school graduating class at Scarville High School in 1924. She earned a teaching certificate at the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught rural schools in Logan Township for several years.

Mrs. Larson was a charter member of the Scarville Booster Club and took an active part until she was in her late 80s. She worked in the various organizations of Immanuel Church throughout her life.

Thea was united in marriage to John C. Larson Dec. 2, 1927. They spent their entire married life residing in their home on Main Street in Scarville. Thea worked as a clerk at the Scarville Post Office for many years. Thea and John became the parents of four children, John K., Loren, Howard and LeAnn

Thea passed away Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, where she had made her home for the past two years.

Survivors include sons, Loren Larson and his wife, Lucille, of Emmons, Minn. and Howard Larson and his wife, Barbara, of Roland; one daughter, LeAnn Honsey and her husband, Harris, of Lake Mills; daughter-in-law, Marlene Larson, of Jefferson; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ingeborg Bye, of Albert Lea, Minn.; and a brother, Albert Larson, of Scarville.

Thea was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John C.; a son, John K.; three brothers, Wilhelm, Luther and Irving; and a sister, Lucille.

ELEANOR STRONG ARMSTRONG

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Eleanor Strong Armstrong, of 4357 W. Kimberly, Glendale, Ariz., died May 7, 2000, at the Vista Care Hospice. Graveside services were held May 12, 2000, in Sioux City.

Eleanor Strong was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Woodbury County, the daughter of Hattie and Albert R. Strong. She moved from Waterloo to Mason City in the early 1960s and remained until she moved to Ormond Beach, Fla. She moved in 1999 to Arizona to be near her daughter because of health reasons.

Eleanor married George Armstrong and they made their home in Mason City, where she worked in ready-to-wear all her adult life. She enjoyed matching clothes with personalities, looks and shapes.

She loved to read, especially mystery stories, and would sit on her patio watching the different species of birds while reading her books.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Kincaid; and a son, Larry Lee Armstrong; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Muffin.

She requested no flowers and any memorials may be sent to Vista Care Foundation, 6991 E. Camelback Road, Suite C-250, Scottsdale, Ariz. 85251.

MERLE J. WACHA

ELMA - Merle J. Wacha, 64, of Elma, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) of cancer at his home, surrounded by family and long time friend, the Rev. Peter Bodensteiner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes, with the Rev. Roger R. Rethamel and the Rev. Peter Bodensteiner presiding. Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the John Frahm American Legion Post of Elma.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Conway Funeral Home in Elma, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Merle Joseph Wacha was born May 18, 1936, in New Hampton, the son of William J. and Mildred (Merrick) Wacha. He was a 1954 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Elma and entered the U.S. Army in 1956.

Merle married Elaine Smith on Oct. 7, 1961, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. They farmed west of Lourdes. He enjoyed watching golfing, the Hawkeyes, visiting and also spending time with family and friends.

Merle is survived by his wife, Elaine; three sons, Thomas (Karen), of Texarkana, Texas, Daniel (Marni), of Cedar Rapids, and Kenneth, of Salina, Kan.; four daughters, Peggy Rogers, of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Mike) Karsjens, of Cedar Rapids, Nancy (Steve) Mariner, of Mason City and Kathy Wacha, of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Marian (Tom) Gebel, of New Hampton and Marge Haugen, of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Haugen.

KANAWHA - Tom Delger, 84 of Kanawha, died Friday (June 9, 2000) at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha, with Pastor G. David Daley officiating. Burial will take place in the Amsterdam Cemetery in Kanawha.

GREENE - Carlyle Edwin "Carl" Abele, 81, of Greene, died Friday (June 9, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

PETER FARMAKIS

MASON CITY - Peter Farmakis, 82, of Chicago, Ill. formerly of Mason City, and son of the late James and Helen Farmakis, of Mason City, passed away on May 23, 2000, in Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago following a stroke.

Born and raised in Mason City, Mr. Farmakis, upon graduation from Mason City High School, enrolled in the Chicago Musical College where he received his master's degree in music and education. He taught high school band and music in Fertile, La Verne and Rockford, Iowa, and then in Chicago schools as well as Elgin and Skokie, Ill.

He served as choir director for St. Demetrios Church and as cantor for the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago where funeral services were held on May 26, 2000. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. Matthew and Mathew Boosalis were pallbearers.

He was so fond of his hometown, Mason City, he kept returning "home" two or three times a year to see friends and to take part in community activities sponsored by the Transfiguration Hellenic Orthodox Church of which he was a member.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Farmakis was a Shriner and an active member of fraternal organization, the Sons of Pericles and Order of Ahepa.

Survivors include his wife, Daisy, of Chicago, Ill.; and four sisters, Dr. Marina Cobb (Dr. Kennedy), of Orlando, Fla., Niki Skodon (John Michael) , Evelyn Boosalis (Dr. Nicholas) and Mari Farmakis, all of Fresno, Calif.

EXZELDA F. JOHNSON

MASON CITY - Exzelda F. Johnson, 92, of Mason City, formerly of Freeport, Ill., died Thursday (June 8, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Born Sept. 24, 1907, in Forreston, Ill., she was the daughter of Antone and Clara (VanNingen) Jacobs. She married Oliver E. Johnson on Oct. 5, 1933, and he died Oct. 20, 1988.

She was a housekeeper for several families in the Freeport area.

She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Freeport.

She is survived by one son, Oliver (Jean) Johnson Jr., of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters, Barbara Johnson, of Sunnyvale, Calif. and Virginia (Richard) Pruessner, of Mason City; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Clarlyn MacKenzie; four brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Walker Mortuary, 321 W. Main in Freeport, Ill., with the Rev. Marvin Thill, of the Church of the Brethren, officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Freeport.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the Walker Mortuary.
