NETTIE E. ZOOK

CLEAR LAKE - Mrs. Nettie E. Zook, 95, formerly of 510 S. Third St., died Monday (May 29, 2000) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis and the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, and will continue one hour prior to services today at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Nettie E. Zook Memorial Fund.

Nettie E. Zook was born July 12, 1904, on a farm 1/2 mile east of Ventura, the daughter of John and Maude (Thomas) Grell. Nettie spent her early childhood there, then moved to a farm northwest of Ventura.

Nettie attended school in Ventura and graduated high school in 1923. She attended college at Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, where she received her teacher's certificate.

Nettie taught school for five years before she married Edwin "Ted" Zook on May 29, 1929. She joined him on his farm south of Clear Lake, where they farmed together for 44 years. They retired and moved to Clear Lake on Aug. 15, 1973.

Nettie was baptized in the Lutheran faith in 1905 and attended the United Brethren Church in Ventura until her marriage. She joined the Methodist Church in Clear Lake in April of 1931 and was always very active. Nettie belonged to the United Methodist Women, in which she had a life membership pin.

She was a member of the Widows Club, Farm Bureau, Charter Member Thought and Thimble Club that she helped organize, Charter member of Dieters Club and for many years was a member of the Lakeside Ladies Aid until it disbanded. Nettie did volunteer work at Opportunity Village and did mending for the residents for 15 years. She made quilts for missions for several years.

She is survived by a daughter, Lois Nieman, of Ventura; a son, Jack Zook and his wife, Marilyn, of Mason City; a daughter-in-law, Karen Zook, of Bloomington, Ill.; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Dave and Lisa Nieman, of Ventura, Nancy and Mark Leisen, of Clear Lake, Alan and Danette Zook, of Mason City, Bill and Tammy Zook, of Ankeny, Ray and Anne Zook, of Mason City, Jo Ann and Rob Pearce, of Mason City, Ted and Amy Zook, of Hinsdale, Ill., Tom and Jodi Zook, of Ballwin, Mo., and Susan and John Lynch, of Watseka, Ill.; 16 great-grandchildren, Ben and Kathryn Nieman, of Ventura, Nicole and Drew Leisen, of Clear Lake, Angela and John Zook, of Mason City, Adam and Amanda Zook, of Ankeny, Logan and Brandon Pearce, of Mason City, Michaela, Alyssa and Jessica Zook, of Hinsdale, Ill., and Dana, Carly and Samantha Zook, of Ballwin, Mo.; three sisters, Ruby Barlow, of Clear Lake, Mildred Caffrey, of McIntire, and Cora Spurrier, of Orange, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, LaVonne Brager, of Ventura.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted, on May 29, 1975 (their 46th Wedding anniversary); her son, Wayne, on May 3, 1991; two brothers, Walter and Carl Grell; and one sister, Alice Borton.

GLEN WARD JONES

OKOBOJI - Funeral services for Glen Ward Jones, 96, of Okoboji, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, with the Rev. James Stiles officiating. Interment was in the Milford Cemetery in Milford.

Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements.

Glen Ward Jones was born to Minor and Emma Jones on Sept. 11, 1903, in Dickinson County and died Wednesday May 24, 2000, at his home in Okoboji. He was from a family of four girls and six boys.

Glen graduated from Spencer High School and excelled in football and track. He farmed all his life in Dickinson County, were he instilled an excellent work ethic in his children. He served on the Richland Township School Board for many years. He retired from farming in 1976 and since retirement, has truly enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Glen passed away while working in his garden.

Glen was united in marriage to Flora Kindlespire on April 2, 1927. From this union, five children were born, Charlotte, Marvin, Roger, Shelby and Victor. In addition to his children, he has 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Glen and Flora celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 1999.

He was devoted to his wife, family, home and church. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

Glen spent many winters in Arizona, just returning on May 7. He attended every Clay County Fair since 1918, only missing the first fair.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Flora, two sisters and five brothers.

He is survived by his five children, Charlotte Tilton, of Mason City, Marvin Jones, of Tempe, Ariz., Roger Jones, of Okoboji, Shelby Jones, of Des Moines and Victor Jones, of Tempe, Ariz. Also surviving are two sisters, Mabel Carr, of Milford and Lillian Crumlett, of Terril.

CLEVIE WAYNE STEVENS

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Clevie Wayne Stevens, 74, died Tuesday (May 30, 2000) at the Fairview Southdale Hospital as a result of severe pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with Father Michael Schueller officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake.

Clevie was born on Oct. 31, 1925, to Wayne and Martha Stevens. His mother, Martha, passed away when he was a small child. His father remarried Laura (Sorenson).

Clevie attended Mason City High School until his junior year, when he entered into military service during World War II. In the service he received demolition training and served 26 months in the 3rd Division Corp of Engineers of the U.S. Army, where he reached the rank of staff sergeant. During his stay in the military he saw duty in many different locations including New Guinea, Philippines, Germany, France and the Panama Canal.

When he returned to civilian life he took GI training for machinist work in the automotive and industrial field. He followed the machinist trade up until his last employer, United Hydraulics of Waverly, retiring in April of 1977. During this time he also had worked for Berry Machine and Sieg's of Mason City.

Clevie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Juanita Alice Stevens (Berry) and three children, Terry Ann Check and her husband, Michael, of Kieler, Wis., Cindy Nelson and her husband, Jeff, of Clear Lake and Rick Stevens and his wife, Lori, of Apple Valley, Minn.; five grandchildren, Wesley Nelson (22) of Clear Lake, Ryan Nelson (19) of Clear Lake, Alexander Stevens (13) of Apple Valley, Minn., Aaron Stevens (8) of Apple Valley, Minn. and Allison Stevens (6), of Apple Valley, Minn.; and one great-granddaughter, Jordan Nelson (3) of Clear Lake.

Clevie is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Allen Pitkin, of Davenport, Walter Stevens, of Kansas City, Mo., Gerald Stevens, of Mendota, Ill., Kenneth Stevens, of Aredale, and Phyllis Wirtz and Janice Wendt, both of Hampton.

HAZEL WISGERHOF

CLEAR LAKE - Hazel Wisgerhof, 91, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday (May 31, 2000) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey, officiating.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake is in charge of services.

Hazel was born March 11, 1909, in Dumont, the daughter of James Thaddeus and Emma Effie (Belt) Canon. She graduated from Dumont High School and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She moved to Clear Lake in 1946.

Hazel dearly loved her children and grandchildren and they were a very active part of their life. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and especially playing bridge. Hazel was a member of First Congregational Church, Clear Lake.

Hazel is survived by three daughters, JoAnn Huey and her husband, Pete, of Clear Lake, Javotte Gorton and her husband, Gerald, and Judy Somers, both of Bloomington, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Canon, of Dumont; 16 grandchildren, Jeff Gorton, Jay Gorton, Jill Tinsley, Michael Somers, Deborah Burke, Sandra Harsh, Shelley O'Brien, Denise Clipperton, Daniel Huey, Dawn Richardson, Duane Huey, David Huey, Drew Huey, Dustin Huey, Kelly Jennings and Tim Jennings; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren; and her special friends, Chris and Alan Due, of Clear Lake.

Her parents; two husbands, Dr. Joseph H. Lerdal and Guy Wisgerhof; daughter, Terry Sue Jennings; two brothers, Hildie and Lyle Canon; and two sisters, Lora Davis and Thada Brehmer, preceded her in death.

THOMAS A. WEAVER

DOUGLAS, Wyo. - Funeral services for Thomas A. Weaver, 22, will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, Wyo., with Father Andrew Duncan of Saint James Catholic Church officiating. Vigil for the Deceased was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Converse Funeral Chapel by Father Duncan. Interment will be at Douglas Park Cemetery.

Thomas Weaver died Friday (May 26, 2000) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

He was born Dec. 1, 1977, in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of Gerold T. and Monica K. (Rodriguez) Weaver. Thomas was a resident of North Central Human Services in Forest City. He worked doing odd jobs at the school. He loved sports and won several blue ribbons at the Special Olympics. He loved country music and playing baseball.

He is survived by his father, Gerold Weaver, of Anchorage, Alaska; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Monica Weaver, on Aug. 22, 1991.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dana Hineman, Gary Hineman, Larry Phillips, Leon Weaver, Mike Schrader and Gary Roberts.

ISABELLE M. BISHOP

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Isabelle M. Bishop, 85, of 907 Del Sol. #5, Boulder City, died Monday (May 22, 2000) at the Boulder City Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Paul Finger of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services on Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Isabelle M. Bishop was born Feb. 7, 1915, the daughter of Ezra and Louise (Mauer) Bittner. Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Betty Wardrip, of Mason City; a son, Jack Wallace, of South Dakota; grandchildren, Steve Wardrip and his wife, Jean, of Baxter, Minn. and Jacque Choka, of Mason City; a great-grandson, Adam Wardrip, of Baxter, Minn.; two nieces and two nephews.

CLEAR LAKE - Carma M. Tenold, 83, of 2112 Pine Tree Court in Clear Lake, died Tuesday (May 30, 2000) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen and the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

MASON CITY - Randy John Lewis, infant son of Martha Mix, was stillborn on today (May 30, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

KAROL ANN 'KARRIE' WILLIER

MASON CITY - Karol Ann "Karrie" Willier, 53, of Mason City, died Wednesday (May 31, 2000) at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel.

Karrie was born Feb. 15, 1947, in Mason City, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Grein) Mulhern. She grew up in Mason City, attending Mason City High School. Karrie was first united in marriage to Ron Riser who preceded her in death.

She was later united in marriage to Donald Willier in 1989 in Mason City. Karrie worked most of her life as a waitress at the Cornerstone Restaurant and the Kansas City Steakhouse. Most recently she worked at Wonderbread in Mason City.

Karrie was a people person who liked working with the public. She was also an animal lover and enjoyed playing bingo and decorating for every holiday. Karrie especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Karrie is survived by her husband, Don; and her parents, Fred and Alice, all of Mason City; two daughters, Sierra Willier and Angie Schotanus and her fiance, Mike Duda; and two sons, Ty Riser and his special friend, Penny and Ronnie Riser and his special friend, Heidi, all of Mason City; one stepson, Brad Willier, of Mason City; one stepdaughter, Jenny Willier, of New York City; two grandchildren, Abbie and Tanner Riser; two stepgrandchildren, Austin and Savannah Willier; two sisters, Priscilla Pappas, of Mason City and Tina Hudspeth and her husband, Bob, of Forest City; one brother, Mick Mulhern and his wife, Terri, of Lorimar; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Diane Read, of Rockford.

Karrie was preceded in death by her first husband; her grandmother, Allie Mulhern; and one brother-in-law, George Pappas.

FRED WIELAND JR.

OSAGE - Fred Wieland Jr., 76, of Osage, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Cresco, the son of Fred and Fannie (Havens) Wieland. He attended the Burr Oak No. 1 School in Mitchell County.

Fred was united in marriage to Edna Engebretson on June 27, 1945, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In his early years, he drove truck and later was employed at Armours for many years. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, farming, raising horses and mules, going to auctions of all kinds and having coffee with friends. He will be sadly missed by all of his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage, and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Fred is survived by his wife, Edna, of Osage; one son, Donald Wieland and his wife, Sherry, of Osage; one daughter, Dianna Lowe, of Little Cedar; six grandchildren, Lisa Emerson and her husband, Kirk, LaVonne Wolf and her husband, Pat, Michael Hobkirk and his wife, Suzanne, Mark Hobkirk, John Wieland and his wife, Hope, and Bryan Wieland and his wife, Michelle; 10 great-grandchildren, Sara, Amy and Alex Emerson, Samantha and Jessica Wolf, Adria and Rachel Hobkirk, Grant and Garrett Wieland and Natasha Wieland; a brother, Howard Wieland and his wife, Mavis, of Osage; two sisters, Mary Rosensweig and her husband, Robert, of Riceville and Doris Sonberg and her husband, Donald "Jack," of Osage; and many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.

JAMES EDWARD KLINE

ST. ANSGAR - James Edward Kline, 61, of St. Ansgar, died on Thursday (June 1, 2000) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, with Military honors conducted by the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.

Jim was born on Oct. 24, 1938, in Faribault, Minn., the son of William and Agnes (Trench) Kline. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army in February of 1960 and was honorably discharged in February of 1963. He also served in St. Ansgar as a dedicated volunteer fireman for 30 years.

Jim was a member of the Walter T. Enneberg Post No.358 of the American Legion of St. Ansgar. For many years he worked very hard as custodian and volunteer for the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. He worked for years at White Farm Equipment in Charles City and was presently employed at Neil Mahr Trucking in Lime Springs.

Jim was united in marriage to Donella Kofoot on Nov. 11, 1967. To this union two children were born, William and Katherine. In addition to his children, he had one grandchild.

Jim and Donella celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in 1999. While driving truck, many times he would let you know he was in the area by a signature tap on the horn. For his community, friends and family, Jim was a continual source of strength and love. He could always be counted on no matter what and could make you laugh with a simple wink of an eye. He will truly be missed.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, William Kline; stepfather, Wilmer "Buddy" Heimer; father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Martha Kofoot; and one niece, Bethany Kofoot.

He is survived by his wife, Donella, of St. Ansgar; his son, William, of Burnsville, Minn. and his fiancée, Jennifer Hohnke, of Big Lake, Minn.; his daughter, Katherine Jean Branstad and her husband, Jeff, of St. Ansgar; granddaughter, Morgan Branstad; his mother, Agnes Heimer; two brothers, Jack Kline and his wife, Carol, of Lyle, Minn. and Jerry Kline and his wife, Sue, of St. Ansgar; five sisters, Diane Zuehl and her husband, Roger, of Racine, Wis., Nancy Salisbury and her husband, Don, of Rudd, Janet Bruesewitz and her husband, Robert, of Rochester, Minn., Sonja Yahnke and her husband, Thomas, of Allen, Texas, and Linda Currans, of St. Ansgar; many brother and sisters-in-law; as well as 38 nieces, nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

HENRY STEERE

GREENE - Funeral services for Henry Steere, 83, of 16924 110th Street, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, with a public scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Henry Steere was born Sept. 9, 1916, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County, a son of William and Sophia (Drogemuller) Steere, and died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

He was baptized Oct. 15, 1916, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Vilmar and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church on May 24, 1931. He received his education in the rural Butler County schools and started farming at an early age.

On Dec. 30, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mabel M. Rover at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. They made their home in the rural Greene area, where he continued to farm until his retirement in 1970. His interests included racing ponies, fishing and coon hunting.

Living family members include his wife, Mabel, of Greene; one daughter, Sandra Bonwell, of Charles City; two sons, Ronald and his wife, Judy, of Greene and Lonnie, of Greene; six grandchildren and their spouses, Dave and Jennifer Steere, Rod and Traci Steere, Scott Steere, Travis and Tracy Steere, Terri and Tony Greifoner and Sherri and Rod Shrader; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Sophia and Lela Steere, both of Greene; three brothers, Leo Steere, Vern and his wife, Edna Steere and Eugene and his wife, Anna Mae Steere, all of Greene; a brother-in-law, Alvin Klunder and a sister-in-law, Mildred Steere, both of Greene.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shelli Barry; son-in-law, Jim Bonwell; parents; two brothers, John Steere and William Steere Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Klunder and Leona Steere; and a nephew, Earl Steere.

HAMPTON - Norlyn Fred Burmester, 74, of Hampton, died Friday (June 2, 2000) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton, with the Rev. Kenneth Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

THORNTON - Merritt LeRoy Boyd, 86, of Thornton, died Friday (June 2, 2000) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with the Rev. Robert Hetrick officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell, with military rites by the Anton Juhl American Legion Post No. 440 of Thornton.

MASON CITY - Mabel A. Helbling, 94, of 902 Seventh St. S.E., died Tuesday Feb. 15, 2000, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Graveside inurnment services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Stutelberg of the Good Samaritan Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nev., officiating.

LORRAINE S. MEYER

CHARLES CITY - Lorraine S. (Mrs. Raymond) Meyer, 86, formerly of 1314 "F" St., died Friday (June 2, 2000) at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

ANNA TERHARK

BRITT - Anna Terhark, 93, of Britt, passed away Thursday (June 1, 2000) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral services for Anna Terhark will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Britt Christian Reformed Church in Britt, with Pastor Steve Mulder officiating. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Anna, the daughter of Kort and Elizabeth Niemeijer Delger was born March 3, 1907, in Finsterwolde, Holland. At the age of 3, Anna moved with her family to the United States. The family settled in the Kanawha area, where she grew up and was educated in the country schools.

Anna was united in marriage with Fred H. Terhark on Feb. 6, 1929, at the Wright Christian Reformed Church near Kanawha. The couple farmed in the Kanawha and Corwith area until they retired in 1965 and moved to Fertile for a short time. In 1967, they moved into Britt.

Anna was employed with the Britt school system for a time and later at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital for a number of years. Fred passed away Nov. 16, 1972. Anna moved to Westview Care Center in November of 1990.

Anna was a member of the Britt Christian Reformed Church, the Ladies Aid and D.Y.T. Club. She always enjoyed raising beautiful flowers.

Anna is survived by her children, Betty Terhark, of St. Paul, Minn., Harm Terhark and his wife, Jean, of Corwith, Curtis Terhark and his wife, Arlene, of St. Ansgar, Marjorie Kavaya, of Mason City, Carroll Terhark and his wife, Maggie, of Mason City, Ilene Brown and her husband, Charles, of Mason City, Ken Terhark and his wife, Karen, of Britt and Linda Paulsen and her husband, Ronald, of Mason City; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother, Henry Delger and his wife, Betty, of Clarion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; one grandson; four brothers; and two sisters.

 ROCKWELL - Lilly Caroline Henricksen, 84, died Friday (June 2, 2000) at home in Rockwell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Ronald Bollinger officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.

Lilly Caroline Henricksen was born on June 4, 1915, at Alexander to Thor M. and Alma Johansen Kofoed. Lilly graduated from Thornton High School in 1933 and married Bernhart Henricksen on Dec. 17, 1939, in Thornton.

Lilly worked at the Rockwell Tribune newspaper, cleaned houses, wallpapered, played the piano in a band with her father and was active in her church circle. She was a very creative person and enjoyed writing poems. She especially enjoyed babysitting. Her Danish heritage was very important to her also.

Survivors include her children, John Henricksen and his wife, Donna, of Rockwell, and Susan Fowler and her husband, George, of Amery, Wis.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Petersen, of Mason City; one brother, Clarence Kofoed and his wife, Norma, of Clear Lake; and one sister-in-law, Terry Kofoed, of Clear Lake.

Lilly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in April 1979; one brother, Louie Kofoed; and one infant sister.

MERRITT LEROY BOYD

THORNTON -Merritt LeRoy Boyd, 86, passed away Friday (June 2, 2000) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, with the Rev. Robert Hetrick officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery by the Anton Juhl American Legion Post No. 440 of Thornton.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service time Monday at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home , Belmond.

Merritt, the son of Clyde and Mary (Christianson) Boyd, was born Dec. 15, 1913, at Doniphan, Neb. He attended country schools for eight years in Appanoose County, Iowa, and graduated from Blakesburg High School in 1932.

Merritt served in the U. S. Army in the European theater during World War II. He was discharged in June 1945.

He was united in marriage to Helen Watkins on Aug. 10, 1945, in Cedar Rapids. They farmed in the Alexander and Rowan area of Wright County for more than 30 years before retiring to the Thornton area.

Merritt enjoyed woodworking and traveling, spending winters in Texas for the past 22 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; a daughter, Betty (Elizabeth) Barkema and her husband, Dennis, of Goodell; twin sons, Gary and his wife, Donna, of Worthington, Minn., and Jerry and his wife, Suzanne, of Macon, Ga.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, June Huntzinger of Othello, Wash., Margaret and her husband, Jim Walls, of Pulluyap, Wash., and Norma and her husband, Gene Marshall of Yakima, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Delores Boyd of Stansfield, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merritt was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Mabel thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf. She cherished the hours she was able to have doing something she loved.

Those thankful for having shared in Mabel's life include her daughter, Helen and her husband, Duane Fjone, of Faribault, Minn.; two sisters, Frances Boone of Mason City and Olive Christiansen of Coulter; four grandchildren, Jeri Batchlor, Tom Sons, Andra Stutelberg and Barbara Ruhter; four great-grandchildren, Ginger Pandil, Carrie Pandil, Liz Ruhter and Stef Ruhter; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Helbling was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd, on Sept. 24, 1987; one son, David Sons; one sister, Myrtle Eichmeier; two grandchildren, Todd Pandil and Tim Fjone.

VIRGIL F. BUTLER

BELLEVUE, Neb. - Virgil F. Butler, 91, of Bellevue, Neb., formerly of Mason City, died Friday May 12, 2000, at Hillcrest Care Center in Bellevue.

Virgil was born Sept. 11, 1908, in Hansel, Iowa.

On May 12, 1935, he married FloVilla Faktor in Mason City.

Mr. Butler was a service station manager and motel manager in Mason City. He lived in Greeley, Colo., from 1966-94 and was owner of Butler Auto Supply.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mason City, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greeley, Colo., and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Neb.

Survivors are his wife, FloVilla Butler; a son, Jon D. Butler (Lt. Col., USAF retired) and a daughter-in-law, Marge, all of Bellevue; a sister-in-law, Bettie Smith of Greeley; a sister-in-law, Marie Butler of Spencer; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bellevue on May 17. Inurment was at Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley.
