LAKE MILLS - Carolyn Jane Holtan, 65, of Core, W. Va., died Tuesday (April 11, 2000) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Mills. Burial will follow the service.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Winnebago Lutheran Church, Lake Mills.

CORWITH - Edward A. Gourley, 62, died Saturday (April 15, 2000) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

LAKE MILLS - Edwin Gran, 88, died Saturday (April 15, 2000) at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Scarville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

ELIZABETH J. ROSELAND

TROY, Mont. - Elizabeth J. Roseland, 70, formerly of the Clear Lake area, died Wednesday (April 12, 2000) at her home in Troy, Mont.

Elizabeth J. Roseland was born at Sioux Falls, S. D., on Nov. 16, 1929, the daughter of Norman and Kathryn Dolittle. She was reared and educated at Sioux Falls and later attended Iowa University.

She married John Roseland Feb. 5, 1951. They resided in Iowa for many years, mainly in the Clear Lake area. She and her husband came to Montana in 1965, moving to Troy in 1977 where they had resided until the time of her death.

Elizabeth was an avid golfer and a member of the Cabinet View Country Club in Libby, Mont. She also was a longtime member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

Survivors include her husband, John, of Troy; a son, John S. Roseland of Lewistown, Mont.; two daughters, Kristine Roseland Wolf of Vashon, Wash., and Jennifer Hefty of Manhatton, Mont.; and a grandson, Morgan Hefty.

Private arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby, Mont.

HARVEY W. KOELDER

MASON CITY - Harvey W. Koelder, 80, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Ave. (The Willows), died Thursday (April 13, 2000) at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Dr., Mason City, with the Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore officiating. Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Sheffield.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to the Harvey W. Koelder Memorial Fund.

Harvey W. Koelder was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Franklin County, the son of Lou and Etta (Halfwassen) Koelder. He graduated from Latimer High School.

Harvey was married to Florence Koenen. She died in 1953. He farmed in the Latimer area for more than 40 years.

He married Ardene Mogk on Oct. 21, 1975, here in Mason City. Harvey moved to Mason City in 1975 and was employed by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Harvey was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a deacon. He was also a member of the Mason City Noon Kiwanis Club, Elderbridge, AARP, Sr. Chamber and Mason City Garden Club. He also belonged to Benevolence Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M. He served as president of the Senior Citizens Center and was instrumental in the fund-raising for the new center.

Survivors include his stepdaughters, Beverly Brandau of Timonium, Md., Marilyn Tubbesing and her husband, Don, of Mason City, and Karen Trujillo and her husband, Robert, of Denver, Colo.; a stepson, James F. Brandau and his wife, Molly, of Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 step-grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren, a nephew, Elwood Koelder of Milford; and a niece, Arlys Koelder of Trent, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Florence in 1953; second wife, Ardene in 1998; one sister, Berniece Koelder; and a brother, Henry L. Koelder.

STEVEN D. "HARLEY" ABENDROTH

MASON CITY - Steven D. "Harley" Abendroth, 43, of 427 S. Polk Place, died Thursday (April 13, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, after a long battle with diabetes.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Rick Eichenlaub of the First Christian Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and until the time of the service on Monday.

Memorials may be directed to the Steven Abendroth Memorial Fund.

Steven D. "Harley" Abendroth was born June 9, 1956, in Iowa City, to Howard Lloyd Abendroth and Marlene Eppens. He attended Mason City schools.

On Sept. 14, 1991, Steven was united in marriage with Tina Gabel in Mason City where they made their home.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing pool and motorcycling as well as spending time with his horses, cats and dogs.

Steven is survived by his wife, Tina Abendroth, Mason City; his mother, Marlene Tvedt, Mason City; his father and stepmother, Howard and Sharon Abendroth, Lake Mills; four brothers, Mick Abendroth, Colorado Springs, Colo., Donny Abendroth, Mason City, David Abendroth, Tacoma, Wash., and Scott Abendroth, Mason City; two sisters, Jayne Marie Peterson and husband, Gary, Granada, Minn., and Terry Abendroth, Ackworth, Iowa; grandmother, Vivian Eppens, Mason City; mother-in-law, Theresa Gabel, Mason City; father-in-law, Roger Gabel, Floyd; sister-in-law, Michele Borchardt and her husband, Todd, Carpenter; and brother-in-law, Adam Gabel, Mason City.

ALLISON - Lavon A. Wiebke, 68, of Allison died Friday (April 14, 2000) at Waverly Municipal Hospital.

CLAUDE EUGENE WEST

NORTHWOOD - Claude Eugene West, 85, died Friday (April 14, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bolan with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring Street, Manly, and one hour prior to service time at the church Tuesday.

Conner Colonial Chapel in Northwood is in charge of the arrangements.

The family of Claude Eugene West has requested that memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Bolan or to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City in his memory.

Claude Eugene West was born on March 19, 1915, in rural Blue Springs, Neb., the son of Elmer and Jesse (Brickell) West. He received his education in the Kensett school system, graduating from Kensett High School in 1932.

He was united in marriage to LaVern Sherrard on March 11, 1939, in LuVerne. She preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 1998.

During his life, Claude was a butter marker for various creameries for many years in the North Iowa area and was a custodian for the Mason City school system for 10 years until his retirement in 1977. During this period he and his wife, LaVern, were associates for many years for the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapels.

He enjoyed playing softball on the church softball league for many years, but his great love and enjoyment was his wife and family and his extended family.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bolan, former member of the Church Council, and was a former superintendent of the church Sunday school.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Larry West and his wife, Joan, of Forest City, Terry West and his wife, Jean, of Clear Lake, and Marlys West of Des Moines; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve West of Northwood; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sherrard of Northwood; a brother-in-law, Arlie Sherrard and his wife, Avis, of Bolivar, Mo., and several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and many friends.

Besides his wife, LaVern, Claude was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

RAYMOND J. "BUD" ROST

MASON CITY - Raymond J. "Bud" Rost, 81, of 415 Fourteenth St. NW, died Thursday (April 13, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating.

His body was cremated. His family will greet friends from noon until the time of the graveside service on Friday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. NE, Mason City.

Raymond Joseph Rost was born July 1, 1918, in Monmouth, Ill, son of Paul and Edith Rost. He married Dorothy Pauline Schiesburg on Sept. 5, 1942, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.

Bud was a custodian at Monroe and John Adams schools. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid conservationist. After retirement he loved vacationing with his grandchildren and family. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Catherine Rost and her husband, Winston Barclay, Iowa City, and Sheila Hooper and her husband, Richard, Ventura, Calif.; two grandchildren, Jon and Ned Barclay, both of Iowa City; one sister, Kathleen Johnson, Mason City; a special niece, Shannon Giordano, Mason City; and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters, Pauline Butler and Evelyn Atkinson.

MARY ALBERTA FLOY

THORNTON - Mary Alberta (Madden) Floy, 71, of Thornton, died Friday (April 14, 2000) at her winter residence in Weslaco, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, with the Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapels, 101 N. Fourth St., with a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service.

Memorials may be given to the Mary A. Floy Memorial Fund.

Mary was born Nov. 3, 1928, in the family farm house in Dougherty, the daughter of Thomas and Regina (Hogan) Madden. She graduated from Holy Family High School in 1946.

Following graduation she attended and graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in 1949. She started working at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

She married Delbert Floy on Sept. 8, 1951, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. They lived in the Thornton area. In 1955 she again worked at Mercy Hospital and the last ten years as a public health nurse in Cerro Gordo County until her retirement.

Mary and Delbert have been visiting the Rio Grande Valley for more than 20 years, but for the last 10 years have spent the winters in Weslaco, Texas.

She enjoyed golf, painting and crafts. But her real passions were her family and fishing.

Mary was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, and the Women's Club in Thornton.

Mary is survived by her husband, Delbert Floy, of Thornton; three children, Chris Floy and his wife, Jennifer, of Thornton, Stephanie Nelson and her husband, Mark, of Ames, and Regina Toresdahl and her husband Larry, of Clear Lake; two sisters, Rosalie Woodhouse, of Mason City and Jean Bamrick and her husband, Joe, of Rockwell; two brothers, Tom Madden and his wife, Eleanor, of Mason City and John Madden and his wife, Barb, of Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren, Shennen Floy, Jonathan Nelson, Katy Nelson, Gerilynn Toresdahl and Barney Toresdahl.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Joe Madden, Russell Madden and an infant brother Raymond Madden.

JEREMIAH "JERRY" M. PAJER

MITCHELL - Jeremiah "Jerry" M. Pajer, 85, died Monday (April 17, 2000) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Litergy of the Word funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Philip Recker officiating. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage. The family will be present from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a scripture service beginning at 7 p.m.

Jerry was born June 16, 1914, in Austin, Minn., son of Anton and Elizabeth Pajer. He lived with his family in Mitchell and Protivin, and attended schools in Mitchell.

Jerry was united in marriage to Rosie Kordos on May 28, 1938, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They moved to Chicago, where Jerry worked as an inspector in the American Gear Defense Plant during World War II.

In 1947 they moved to Mitchell, where he eventually went into his own plumbing and heating business until he retired in 1977.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie Pajer, of Mitchell; two sons, Ronald Pajer of Covington, Ga.; and Jerry J. Pajer and his wife, Marilyn, of Snellville, Ga.; two granddaughters, Kellie Parker and her husband, Bill, of Covington, Ga., and Renee Beshel and her husband, Ed, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two grandsons, Chris Pajer and his wife, Carol, of Dunwoody, Ga., and Randy Pajer of Loganville, Ga.; great-grandsons, Brent and Hunter Parker; and great-granddaughters, Courtney and Lauren Beshel.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie; a brother, Frank; and a step-grandson, Dennis.

VERA ELEANOR HOFFMAN

CLEAR LAKE - Vera Eleanor Hoffman, 84, of Clear Lake, died, Sunday (April 16, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 3 until 6 p.m. today at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, where a prayer service will be held at 6 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Beaman's Funeral Home, Boscobel, Wis. Visitation will be held that same day at the funeral home for two hours prior to the service. Burial will be at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Stitzer, Wis.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Vera was born Aug. 28, 1915, in Fennimore, Wis., the daughter of Logan and Anna Laura (Roth) Fisher. She moved to Mississippi at the age of eight and graduated from Brookhaven Mississippi High School in 1933.

Vera was united in marriage to August Hoffman on May 20, 1933, in New Orleans. In the early 1940s, the couple moved to Mason City. For many years, Vera owned and operated the Clear Lake Butchery. She later sold the business but continued to work, managing several apartment buildings in Clear Lake until her retirement.

Vera loved quilting and putting together puzzles. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Vera is survived by one grandson, Nicholas Clarke, of San Diego, Calif.; one son-in-law, Jerry Clarke, of San Diego; and many second cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Louise Clarke; and two brothers.

ESTHER D. HAEFNER

KLEMME -Esther D. Haefner, 94, passed away Saturday (April 15, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Klemme, with the Rev. Curtis DeVance officiating. Interment will be at Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.

Esther Dorothy Haefner, the daughter of Henry C. and Ida Louise (Lenz) Beier was born Sept. 23, 1905, on a farm near Klemme. She attend the rural schools of Liberty Township, two years at Klemme High School and then graduated from East High School in Waterloo.

Esther attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her teaching certificate. She taught in the rural schools of Hancock County before and after her marriage.

On Nov. 1, 1927, Esther was married to Wilbur Lloyd Haefner by the Rev. A. W. Gauger at the United Methodist parsonage in Klemme. They farmed west of Klemme until 1948, when they moved into town where they lived the rest of their married lives.

Esther had lived at Prairie View Apartments in Garner since the early 1990s. She had worked at Sawtell's Grocery Store for a few years. She enjoyed her family, friends, music, gardening and handicraft work.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme, U.M.W., Grandmothers Club and the Klemme Garden Club.

Esther is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Ruth Sherwood and her husband, Frank, of Mason City, and Margaret Ann Bruner and her husband, Larry, of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Debra Jean Frank, Jon Sherwood, Steven Bruner and Kristen Christensen; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Beier of Kanawha; two sisters, Helen Leiran and Mildred Beier, both of Beltrami, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Beier of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Haefner, March 15, 1977; her parents; and six brothers and sisters, Carl Beier, Elmer Beier, Mabel Hansen, Ethel Cook, Ruth Kalm and Novella Budlong.

JAMES BRONES

FOREST CITY - James Brones, 82, died Saturday (April 15, 2000) at his home in rural Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.

James I. Brones was born in Leland on July 3, 1917, the son of Ellsworth and Ida (Halverson) Brones. He received his education at Vatna country school and Forest City High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

James married Violet Nesset on Jan. 12, 1945. The couple lived and farmed northeast of Forest City for more than 50 years.

Jim will be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor and his kind and gentle ways. His uncanny way of working with horses was known far and wide. He rode the speed events at horse shows all over north Iowa and southern Minnesota. His home was filled with trophies, which he showed to everyone who came to visit.

When Violet's health was failing, he took over the job of baking home-made bread and sugar cookies that would melt in your mouth.

He was an active member of United Methodist Church, serving in various offices over the years. He was a member of the Methodist Men, a 4-H Leader, a charter member of the Rainbow Trail Riders and a member of the Horsemen of Iowa. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a true and loyal friend.

He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Fiske of Forest City and her children, Bill, Jarrod and his wife, Shiela, Shaun, Lance and Jordon; a son, Layne Brones and his wife, Meredith, of Cedar Edge, Colo., and their children, Collin and his wife, Erin, and Jodie and her husband, Allan Steen; a son, Jon Brones of Melbourne and his children, Angela and Jon Elliot; great-granddaughter, Nicole; a sister, Eleanor McConkey of Des Moines; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Violet; two brothers, Lloyde and Rich Brones; and two sisters, Helen Solberg and Stella Irish.

JERRY LEE LINDSEY

MASON CITY - Jerry Lee Lindsey, 64, of 314 Ninth St. N.E., died Saturday (April 15, 2000) at his residence following a brief illness.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson-James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with the Rev. Alan Sheldon, pastor of the Church of Christ of Mason City, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation was held on Monday at the funeral home and further visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral home.

Jerry Lee Lindsey was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Mason City, the son of Ray and Mildred Lindsey. He graduated from Mason City High School and attended college.

In August of 1990 he was united in marriage to Carol L. Haskins.

For 35 years Jerry was an electrician for the Lehigh Portland Cement Company of Mason City. He was also a former Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. Jerry was a crossword puzzle fanatic. He also loved fishing and woodworking.

Those thankful for sharing Jerry's life are his wife, Carol, of Mason City; four children, Diane Dittman and her husband, Gustave III, of Mason City, Geraldine Rank and her husband, Fred, of Fort Dodge, Rick Lindsey of Jacksonville, Fla., and Shane Lindsey of Mason City; two brothers and their wives, Irvin and Mary Lindsey of Wichita, Kan., and Berry and Twila Lindsey of Ankeny; two sisters, Mrs. Marcella Harder of Bemidji, Minn., and Sharon Lindsey of Mason City; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

JAMES R. 'JIM' SHEEHY

MASON CITY - James R. "Jim" Sheehy, 72, No. 2 S. Pierce Ave., Mason City, died Sunday (April 16, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, after a brief illness.

A funeral Mass for Jim Sheehy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with Father Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

James Richard "Jim" Sheehy was born June 16, 1927, in New Hampton, the son of John Edward and Rose Mary (Krieger) Sheehy. He attended school at the former Holy Family Academy. During his schooling, Jim laid the foundation for his lifetime occupation by working part-time at the former Dillon's Clothing Store.

Immediately following his schooling, Jim entered the United States Navy. He served his country honorably during World War II, being stationed primarily in the Philippines.

On May 29, 1950, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Jim was united in marriage to Esther Reres.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Sheehy returned to Mason City and resumed his career in men's retail clothing at the former St. Clair- Starks store, rising to the position the part-time manager. From 1963 until his retirement in 1989, Jim was a salesman for Gildner's Men's Clothing store. It was at Gildner's that he developed a large and loyal following of people who trusted him with their clothing needs.

Mr. Sheehy was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and sang in the church choir. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the BPO Elks Lodge, both of Mason City.

Jim dearly loved the time he was able to spend with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Those thankful for sharing Jim's life are his wife, Esther, of Mason City; a daughter, Dilo Etter, of Iowa City; three sons and their wives, John and Theresa Sheehy and Maurice and Kelli Sheehy, all of Mason City and Tom and Deborah Sheehy, of Waukee; three sisters, Mary Sheehy and Joan Barlow and her husband, Jack, all of Mason City and Sister Marie Sean, OP, of Brookfield, Wis.; a brother and his wife, Jack and Patricia Sheehy, of Mason City; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ted and Tom Sheehy; and two sisters, Patricia "Pat" Hubbard and Ruth Ann Sheehy.

CLARA B. BARTH

GREENE - Funeral services for Clara B. Barth, 99, of 22108 110th St., will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Brethren in Greene, with Pastor Gene Burry officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a public Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Clara Bell Kingery was born Sept. 6, 1900, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County, a daughter of Aaron and Mary Elizabeth (Humbert) Kingery, and died Monday (April 17, 2000) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

She received her education in the rural Coldwater Township Schools and attended the Greene Public School.

On Nov. 29, 1917, she was united in marriage to Albert George Barth in Charles City. They spent their entire married life in Greene with the exception of a year spent in Long Beach, Calif. In 1924 they moved to their present farm where they lived out the remainder of their lives. For several years Clara assisted her husband in the operation of a skating rink and bowling alley in Greene.

Clara will be remembered for the large garden that she cared for and the beautiful flowers that she raised and shared every Sunday at church. For many years she sold eggs to people in the community. She loved her entire family and faithfully served her church.

She was a life time member of the Church of the Brethren where she was Sunday school teacher for many years and enjoyed participating in the women's fellowship.

Sunday dinners were family gatherings for 50 years where she would prepare for every family member who could be there. Throughout the years, she had made quilts and crafts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves to join her husband, who died March 10, 1972; her parents; four sisters, Daisy Solt, Pearl Wirth, Ruth Flora and Ora Shatzer; one brother, Floyd Kingery; and a son-in-law, Earle Hyers.

Living family members include four daughters, Marjorie Barth, of Greene, Mary Hyers, of Berkeley, Ill., Ardys and her husband, Ralph Litterer, of Greene, and Donna and her husband, Phil Carroll, of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren, Don Hyers, Mary Lynn Stewart, Linda Creek, Jolene Jenkins, Doug Litterer, Bruce Litterer, Veronica Wright, Dennis Carroll, John Carroll and Richard Carroll; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

CRYSTAL LAKE - Gladys Siekmeier, 94, of Crystal Lake, died Tuesday (April 17, 2000) at home.

DALE DEWAYNE SHERRILL

DES MOINES - Funeral services for Dale DeWayne Sherrill, 76, of 4140 68th Street, Des Moines, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Mason City Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Avenue, Clive.

Memorials may be given to Crohn's and Colitis Federation of America in his memory.

Dale D. Sherrill, 76, was born in Liscomb, Iowa, on March 25, 1924, to Elmer and Dorothy Sherrill. He also had a sister, Phyllis. Later, his brothers, Ross and Max, completed the family.

Dale was a devoted husband, loving and supportive father and beloved grandfather and great-grandfather.

A dedicated Christian, he was active in various Lutheran churches and served as church treasurer on several occasions. The life example that he has set of integrity, courage and faith is a legacy to all who knew him.

He graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1942, where he lettered in wresting and tennis. On Dec. 21, 1946 he married Clara Koehler, with whom he had four children.

In 1948, Dale graduated from Cornell College with a bachelor of arts in business administration. While at Cornell he and his teammates won the 1947 National Wrestling Championship. He was honored to attend the 1997 reunion of this event with his daughter, Wendy Welch.

An Army veteran of WWII, he continued his career in government service for the Department of the Treasury as a deputy collector, revenue agent, special agent and finally as a revenue agent reviewer.

He is survived by his wife, Clara K. Sherrill, and children, Margaret and Ali Farchtchi of Vienna, Va., Wendy and Leland Welch of Des Moines, Mandi and Kevin Wing of Maxwell, Texas, and Dale and Nanci Sherrill of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchldren, Ruhollah and Masumeh Farchtchi, Lee II, Tom, Sherrill and Stephanie Welch, Nickolaus, Auguste, Jordan and Taylor Wing, Christopher Dale and Caitlyn Sherrill; great-grandchildren, Lee III, Michael and Matthew Welch; his sister, Phyllis and Wayne Gifford, of Richardson, Texas; and brother, Ross and Marvel Sherrill, of Millbrae, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Anne Sherrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Dorothy Sherrill ; and one brother, Max Sherrill.

Dale D. Sherrill, 76, was called to his Heavenly Home on Monday (April 17, 2000).

He will be greatly missed by all.

WAVA ELIZABETH BLANCHARD

Wava Elizabeth Blanchard was born on July 16, 1912, in Sheffield to Arthur O. and Elizabeth Knapp Culver. Wava was schooled in Sheffield then worked at home.

On Aug. 30, 1931, Wava was married to Howard Blanchard at the Evangelical Church parsonage in Sheffield. The couple lived a short time in Hampton then moved to Sheffield and lived there the rest of their lives.

Wava worked for four years at Mercy Hospital in Mason City in housekeeping after Howard died.

Wava enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and quilting. She was a faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church in Sheffield. She worked at church camp for several years and was a member of the Busy B's.

Wava died on Monday morning (April 17, 2000) at the Sheffield Care Center in Sheffield at the age of 87.

Survivor include her children, Carroll Blanchard and his wife, RosaAnn, of Sheffield and Berleen Sutter and her husband, Gary, of Hillsboro, Mo.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Fleta Berndt of Sheffield, Ardis Meyer of St. Peter, Minn., Marcella Crawford of Sheffield, Eileen Lutcavish and her husband, Jerry, of Sheffield, Bernadine Hulsing and her husband, Carl, of Sheffield; brothers, Harold Culver and his wife, Wilhelmina, of Sheffield and Junior Culver of Sheffield; and brother-in-law, Clarence Blanchard of Hampton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Wava was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in April of 1965; three sisters and three brothers.

JOHNNIE B. KOENEN

HAMPTON - Johnnie B. Koenen, 82, of Hampton, died Monday (April 17, 2000) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Zion Reformed Church in rural Sheffield, with the Rev. Art Zewert officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Sheffield.

Johnnie B. Koenen was born Feb. 6, 1918, in Franklin County, a son of Bernhard and Helen (Pals) Koenen.

Johnnie was raised in rural Franklin County and educated in rural Franklin County schools.

Johnnie B. Koenen was united in marriage on April 9, 1941, to Elizabeth Jurgens in Franklin County.

He was a farmer involved in agriculture.

He served on the Zion Reformed Church Consistory for 13 years, Zion Reformed Church Planning and Development Committee for six years, Marion Township Trustee from 1963 to 1992, was a past CAL School Board member, served on Franklin County ASC Committee for nine years and Franklin County FHA Committee for three years.

He was a member of River City Chorus of Mason City for 18 years, charter member of Brotherhood of Zion, past Sunday school teacher. He was a member of InterFaith Men Chorus of Grundy Center Area.

He loved people, singing, farming, traveling and being with family.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Koenen of Hampton; one son, Keith Koenen and his fiancee, Cindy Rolling, of Sheffield; one daughter, Karlene Willemsen of Eugene, Ore.; sister, Kate Meinders of Meservey; sister, Gertie Frohling of Rowan; sister-in-law, Hattie Koenen of Belmond; four grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Jennifer, Jalene and her husband, Steve, Jeff and Jim; one great-grandson, Zachary; and special friends, Ryan and Jason.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Pete and Bernard Koenen; and one grandson, Rodney Willemsen.
